The Role of Probiotics in Health and Wellness: Market Trends and Outlook 2021-2028
Probiotics are living microorganisms that provide numerous health benefits when consumed in adequate amounts. They are found in a variety of foods, including
Yogurt
Milk
Cheese
Curd &
Other fermented foods
Probiotics have been shown to improve digestion, boost immune function, and support overall health and wellness.
This article will explore the role of probiotics in health and wellness, market trends, and the outlook for the probiotics market from 2021-2028.
Health Benefits of Probiotics
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that live in the gut and help to maintain a healthy balance of microorganisms. They play an important role in digestion and absorption of nutrients, as well as in supporting immune function. Research has shown that probiotics can help to alleviate a range of health conditions, including:
Digestive Disorders
Probiotics have been shown to be effective in treating a range of digestive disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and diarrhea. They work by restoring the balance of bacteria in the gut and reducing inflammation.
Immune System Support
They have been shown to support the immune system by stimulating the production of antibodies and other immune cells. They have also been shown to reduce the risk of respiratory infections, such as colds and flu.
Skin Health
It also improves skin health by reducing inflammation, improving hydration, and reducing the risk of acne and other skin conditions.
Mental Health
There is emerging evidence to suggest that probiotics may play a role in supporting mental health. Studies have shown that probiotics can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and may even help to improve memory and cognitive function.
Essential Tips for Choosing and Using Probiotics Safely and Effectively
Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that can be beneficial for your digestive and overall health. Choosing the right probiotic supplement and using it correctly can help you achieve optimal health benefits. Here are some things to consider when choosing and using probiotics:
Strain selection: Make sure to choose a probiotic supplement that contains strains of bacteria that have been clinically studied and shown to provide health benefits. Look for strains such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus.
CFU count: CFU stands for colony-forming units, which is a measure of the number of live bacteria in the supplement. Look for a probiotic with at least 1 billion CFUs per serving to ensure you are getting enough bacteria to be effective.
Storage: Probiotics are living organisms, so they require proper storage to remain effective. Look for supplements that are stored in temperature-controlled environments and follow the storage instructions carefully.
Expiration date: Make sure to check the expiration date on the probiotic supplement before purchasing it. Using expired probiotics can lead to ineffective results and potential health risks.
Timing: Probiotics are best taken on an empty stomach, typically 30 minutes before a meal, to allow the bacteria to reach your gut without interference from food.
Avoid heat and moisture: Heat and moisture can damage probiotics, so it’s important to keep the supplement away from high heat and humidity.
Avoid combining with antibiotics: Antibiotics can kill both harmful and beneficial bacteria, so it’s best to wait until after you have finished your antibiotics before taking probiotics.
Overall, choosing the right probiotic supplement and using it correctly can help you achieve optimal health benefits. It’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplements, especially if you have any underlying health conditions. If you're looking to start your own supplement business and need a reliable manufacturer for your probiotic or other supplement products, contact Zeon Lifesciences. Visit our website www.zeonlifesciences.com for more information.
Market Trends and Outlook 2021-2028
Probiotics are gaining awareness in the health and wellness sector. They have been used in the food industry for decades, but their use is also increasing in other sectors. The nutraceutical industry has also started using probiotics for human consumption due to their potential benefits to human health.
The global probiotics market has been growing rapidly in recent years, driven by increased consumer awareness of the health benefits of probiotics, as well as a growing demand for natural and organic products. According to a report by Research and Markets, the global probiotics market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.7% from 2021 to 2028.
Outlook for the Probiotics Market
Another key trend driving the growth of the probiotics market is increasing consumer awareness of the health benefits of probiotics. As consumers become more health-conscious, they are seeking out products that support their overall wellness, including products containing probiotics.
The probiotics market is expected to continue to grow at a rapid pace in the coming years, driven by increasing consumer demand and growing interest in natural and organic products.
Conclusion
The market is growing at a fast pace, with an estimated CAGR of 45.1% from 2016 to 2021. This growth is primarily attributed to the increase in demand for probiotics and other nutritional supplements from both health care and food & beverage industries.

A taxonomy of corporate bullshit
Next Tuesday (Oct 31) at 10hPT, the Internet Archive is livestreaming my presentation on my recent book, The Internet Con.
There are six lies that corporations have told since time immemorial, and Nick Hanauer, Joan Walsh and Donald Cohen's new book Corporate Bullsht: Exposing the Lies and Half-Truths That Protect Profit, Power, and Wealth in America* provides an essential taxonomy of this dirty six:
https://thenewpress.com/books/corporate-bullsht
In his review for The American Prospect, David Dayen summarizes how these six lies "offer a civic-minded, reasonable-sounding justification for positions that in fact are motivated entirely by self-interest":
https://prospect.org/culture/books/2023-10-27-lies-my-corporation-told-me-hanauer-walsh-cohen-review/
I. Pure denial
As far back as the slave trade, corporate apologists and mouthpieces have led by asserting that true things are false, and vice-versa. In 1837, John Calhoun asserted that "Never before has the black race of Central Africa, from the dawn of history to the present day, attained a condition so civilized and so improved, not only physically, but morally and intellectually." George Fitzhugh called enslaved Africans in America "the freest people in the world."
This tactic never went away. Children sent to work in factories are "perfectly happy." Polluted water is "purer than the water that came from the river before we used it." Poor families "don't really exist." Pesticides don't lead to "illness or death." Climate change is "beneficial." Lead "helps guard your health."
II. Markets can solve problems, governments can't
Alan Greenspan made a career out of blithely asserting that markets self-correct. It was only after the world economy imploded in 2008 that he admitted that his doctrine had a "flaw":
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/greenspan-admits-flaw-to-congress-predicts-more-economic-problems
No matter how serious a problem is, the market will fix it. In 1973, the US Chamber of Commerce railed against safety regulations, because "safety is good business," and could be left to the market. If unsafe products persist in the market, it's because consumers choose to trade safety off "for a lower price tag" (Chamber spox Laurence Kraus). Racism can't be corrected with anti-discrimination laws. It's only when "the market" realizes that racism is bad for business that it will finally be abolished.
III. Consumers and workers are to blame
In 1946, the National Coal Association blamed rampant deaths and maimings in the country's coal-mines on "carelessness on the part of men." In 2003, the National Restaurant Association sang the same tune, condemning nutritional labels because "there are not good or bad foods. There are good and bad diets." Reagan's interior secretary Donald Hodel counseled personal responsibility to address a thinning ozone layer: "people who don’t stand out in the sun—it doesn’t affect them."
IV. Government cures are always worse than the disease
Lee Iacocca called 1970's Clean Air Act "a threat to the entire American economy and to every person in America." Every labor and consumer protection before and since has been damned as a plague on American jobs and prosperity. The incentive to work can't survive Social Security, welfare or unemployment insurance. Minimum wages kill jobs, etc etc.
V. Helping people only hurts them
Medicare will "destroy private initiative for our aged to protect themselves with insurance" (Republican Senator Milward Simpson, 1965). Covid relief is unfair to people that are currently in the workforce" (Republican Governor Brian Kemp, 2021). Welfare produces "learned helplessness."
VI. Everyone who disagrees with me is a socialist
Grover Cleveland's 2% on top incomes is "communistic warfare against rights of property" (NY Tribune, 1895). "Socialized medicine" will leave "our children and our children’s children [asking] what it once was like in America when men were free" (Reagan, 1961).
Everything is "socialism": anti-child labor laws, Social Security, minimum wages, family and medical leave. Even fascism is socialism! In 1938, the National Association of Manufacturers called labor rights "communism, bolshevism, fascism, and Nazism."
As Dayen says, it's refreshing to see how the right hasn't had an original idea in 150 years, and simply relies on repeating the same nonsense with minor updates. Right wing ideological innovation consists of finding new ways to say, "actually, your boss is right."
The left's great curse is object permanence: the ability to remember things, like the fact that it used to be possible for a worker to support a family of five on a single income, or that the economy once experienced decades of growth with a 90%+ top rate of income tax (other things the left manages to remember: the "intelligence community" are sociopathic monsters, not Trump-slaying heroes).
When the business lobby rails against long-overdue antitrust action against Amazon and Google, object permanence puts it all in perspective. The talking points about this being job-destroying socialism are the same warmed-over nonsense used to defend rail-barons and Rockefeller. "If you don't like it, shop elsewhere," has been the corporate apologist's line since slavery times.
As Dayen says, Corporate Bullshit is a "reference book for conservative debating points, in an attempt to rob them of their rhetorical power." It will be out on Halloween:

Gravity Falls: For Your Own Good, Ch. 8
Summary: A few years after moving to Gravity Falls and having his lab built, Stanford Pines happens upon his estranged twin brother, Stanley. He mentally prepared himself to be suffocated by his brothers neediness all over again - what he wasn't prepared for was Stanley walking right past him like he didn't even notice him.
Rating: M for language, violence, and adult implications
Preface: Dialogue only, but some actions will be annotated for clarity. Cross-Posted on AO3 Here
First - Prev - Next
CH.8
“You’ve been down here forever PhD. Maybe you should… I dunno, leave your evil basement sub-lab? Maybe eat something other than an entire tube of toothpaste?”
“This isn’t toothpaste. It’s a calorie-rich blended solution formulated specifically for daily nutrition, in a convenient tube to avoid the need for cutlery.”
“Doc. Read the label.”
“...”
“You should probably sleep too if you mixed those up.”
“You’re just trying to get me to leave so you can escape.”
“I’ve broken out of county jail, the trunk of a sinking car, a shipping crate, cement shoes, and even my loan sharks book club meeting. But this? A forcefield? A real, no-shit forcefield? I don’t have anything for that… anymore.”
“What was that last part?”
“I said I can’t break out of sci-fi prison. Go to bed already, Doc - it’d be a lot easier for me to sleep too if you weren’t hovering over there, looking at me all sad like I’m some stray at the pound about to be put down.”
“Fine, but don’t go anywhere.”
“Well there goes my plans for the night.”
“...What plans?”
“For the fifth time, it’s called sarcasm.”
“Now that I think about it, I think I still have an invention I need to calibrate…”
“Specs was right; how did you survive out here by yourself?”
(...)
“Thanks for helping me clean the place up, Fiddleford. I’ll admit, I’ve been putting it off for a while now.”
“You don’t say… You know, you still haven’t told me what that extra level in your basement is for.”
“I’ve already told you, it’s a private study.”
“You’re so secretive about it.”
“Private study.”
“Alright, alright.”
“After we’re done here, I have an anomaly in the woods I need to check out; would you be willing to keep an eye on the house and the lab while I’m gone?”
“I have no problem making sure your brother doesn’t disappear into thin air, of course I’ll stay back for your peace of mind.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
“It’s what you meant - oh don’t make that face at me. I’m not trying to make fun of you, I think it’s… Endearing, that you care so much even if you have the worst ways of showing it.”
“...Just keep an eye on the house. And maybe go down there every so often to interact with him, the isolation isn’t doing him many favours.”
“How did your last talk with him go?”
“He’s still convinced that I’m grieving over my ‘real’ twin, and using him as a substitute because we look alike. He can acknowledge that the timeline and traits line up, and that he himself has a missing past, but he still thinks he’s a ‘Malone’ and not a ‘Pines. I don’t know why he’s being so resistant to the possibility…”
"You know... 'Stan Malone' sounds mighty similar to 'Standalone'.
*Ford facepalms*
“I thought it was clever.”
“It is, that’s why I’m mad.”
(...)
“-and it’s actually called ‘Backupsmor’? That’s its name?”
“Yes.”
“Wow. They didn’t even bother hiding what they were huh?”
“I suppose so. What about you, Stan?”
“Pft, I didn’t go to college. I’m… pretty sure? I didn’t graduate high school.”
“You’re not fully sure?”
“F, I can only remember back when I was 17, and I was already living on the streets. I don’t think I could have graduated by then. Not like it would have helped me.”
“17, you say? Interesting…”
“What about you? Your whole family full of geniuses like you?”
“Everyone’s… smart in their own way. I’m the only member of my family to attend college, however. The rest of my family works on a hog farm.”
“That’s pretty cool, striking it out on your own.”
“Mighty kind of you to-.”
“Good-looking, smart, and independent? I like that in a-.”
“I’m back!”
*Fiddleford hastily presses the mute button on the containment unit*
“Stanford, you’re back! How was it?”
“I was hoping it was something new, but it was just the gnomes trying to utilize the size changing crystals. How were things here?”
"I was just getting more information on what past he does remember- didn’t rightly get much because he is such a flirt."
"He's only doing it to a) make you uncomfortable, b) make you let your guard down, or c) charm you enough to convince you to free him."
"Well he hasn't quite succeeded on any of those. Does he flirt with you?"
"That's disgusting, Fiddleford. I don't know how you do things in Tennessee, but here it is improper for siblings to-."
“Genius, didn't you just say he doesn't believe you're related?"
“Somewhere in there he must still know I'm his brother. Which is a good thing for us because his memories can't be buried too deep."
TAPTAPTAP
*Fiddleford presses the mute button of the cell to unmute it*
“No, that's not it. That motherfucker is ugly.”
“Ugly? We have the same face!”
“Yeah, but on you it doesn't work.”
To be continued...

Cecilia Nowell at The Guardian:
When Project 2025 began making headlines this summer, it was largely for the ways the conservative “wish list” of policies for a future Trump administration would restructure the entire federal bureaucracy, deepen abortion restrictions and eliminate the Department of Education.
But the document – a proposed mandate for the next Republican president authored by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative thinktank – also outlines steps that would radically transform food and farming, curtailing recent progress to address the excess of ultra-processed foods in the United States. Among those: weakening the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap), ending policies that consider the effects of climate change – and eliminating the US dietary guidelines. “This is a deregulatory agenda,” said Marion Nestle, a professor of nutrition and food policy at New York University. “And what we know historically from deregulation is that it’s really bad for consumers, it’s bad for workers, it’s bad for the environment.”
Project 2025 proposes changes to the country’s food assistance programs, like Snap and the Women, Infants and Children supplemental nutrition program (Wic), that Nestle believes are intended to dismantle such programs. It also calls for ending support for school meals. But one of the most notable of its proposals is calling on the next Republican president to eliminate or reform the dietary guidelines. Those guidelines form the basis for all federal food policies, from school meals to Snap, Wic and other programs.
“There is no shortage of private-sector dietary advice for the public, and nutrition and dietary choices are best left to individuals to address their personal needs,” the document reads. The food industry has long pushed the idea that chronic, diet-related health conditions, like diabetes and obesity, are the result of individual choices – like not exercising enough. Today, nearly 42% of adults in the US are obese and about 12% have diabetes. But nutritionists emphasize that those conditions are not the result of a moral failing, but rather conditions caused by the ingredients and policies (like aggressively advertising to children) pushed by food companies. Nestle sees that as one of many pro-business policies outlined in Project 2025’s agricultural provisions that trusts companies to prioritize public health over profit. “There’s twice as many calories available in the food supply as the country needs on average. So the food industry is enormously competitive in selling calories,” she said. “Republicans want to deregulate, and give those food businesses every opportunity to make as much money as they possibly can, regardless of the effects on health and the environment.” Experts also fear the way Project 2025 could undermine the work being done by the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture to limit the flow of ultra-processed foods in the US food supply.
Today, ultra-processed foods make up 73% of the US food supply, according to Northeastern University, and provide the average US adult with more than 60% of their daily calories. While the science is still emerging, researchers are increasingly linking UPFs to a range of health conditions including diabetes, obesity, depression and certain cancers. At the FDA, work is currently under way to develop a front-of-package label that corporations would be required to print on the fronts of products indicating when an item is high in sugar, fats, sodium or calories (the exact label has not yet been made public). Although the label wouldn’t specifically indicate when a food is ultra-processed, it would likely apply to a high percentage of UPFs in the food system because many contain large quantities of those nutrients.
Warning to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and co. who are backing Donald Trump on the basis that he would clean up the food supply: Project 2025 calls for rollbacks that would limit the tools needed to fight against ultra-processed foods.

Code of Ethics - Ch. 14 - Traffic Control
Friday was uber-crazy busy, so my usual writing cadence was thrown off. Otherwise I might have had this out yesterday.
Also, back to a 4k+ chapter instead of the 8k+ monsters the last two were.
Back at her station, Diane's ready to return to business as usual, if they knew what business as usual even was yet.
Preview below the cut:
In the time they’d been on Mortan, Katrina had gone to the effort to identify a handful of the people that had been living on the station with some native ability to prepare food and set them to the task of preparing meals for the staff and crew, dialing back the synthesizer process to generating the ingredients needed for the foods being made instead of preparing the entire meal straight from the synthesizer. Not only did this reduce wear and tear (and reliance) on the food synths, it wound up producing better food overall.
The addition of the shipments from Mortan helped as well, providing things like salt that could be ‘perfectly’ created on the station but salt harvested from a planetary environment provided things like trace elements that boosted not just the flavor but the nutritional value of the food served in the mess hall. It wound up being…well, not anything like the five-star restaurant they’d dined their last dinner on Mortan in, but certainly landing in the “home cookin’” category that turned mealtimes from when people had a chance to sit down and eat to communal events where the station’s small population gathered to enjoy good food and good company.
While Diane had been quite pleased with this development, they learned on their second day back that the ‘command’ breakfasts should probably be taken in her private dining room. They had decided that Diane would open the ‘care packages’ from the women of Mortan, one package at a time, at breakfast.
The went fine for the first day when the contents of said care package had been a Morvish riding vest accompanied by a note that Norma took great pleasure in reading aloud, “’To: The First Found Daughter – My gran made this for me for my first hunting party, and all my daughters and granddaughters are grown and have long since had their first hunt. I know grandmother would want this to go to you, please wear it for your first hunt.’” she smiled down at the note with a slightly wistful smile, “Awww!”
“That is sweet, you should let me take a picture of you wearing it so we can send a thank you in reply,” suggested Russe.
Diane shrugged, “No reason not to, I guess, though it might be a logistical nightmare to try and reply to all of ‘em like that.”
Norma carefully re-folded the note and put it back on top of the vest in it’s shipping box, “Then maybe we have a form-note made, you know, ‘Thanks for the gift of insert-whatever-it-was-here, I greatly appreciate it, signed First Found Daughter’ or something.”
The second day had forced them to alter their burgeoning breakfast tradition when Diane opened a box to reveal a perfume scented envelope resting on top of translucent and vaguely labelled package of some sort of fabric contents. Continuing the pattern established the previous morning, Norma snatched up the envelope and gently tore open the top as Diane found a zipper seal on the package.
“Oooh, flowery handwriting! Don’t see that often in space, let’s see… ‘Dearest First Found,’ wow, already on a first name basis with a woman on your first port of call? You’re going to get a reputation,” Norma teased as she gently fanned out the several pages of the letter, a small square of photopaper landing picture down on the table from the pages. Diane rolled her eyes and started fishing the fabric out of the plasticine container as Norma continued, “‘I hope you like what you see, I look forward to finding out if you’re a progenitor or a proliferator under those…tight…pants?!” her voice tightened to a squeak and her face started turning bright red as her eyes continued to scan the note, now doing so quietly as Diane held up some ‘clothing’ that certainly wasn’t fit for a work environment.
Except for maybe a brothel.
Sitting almost frozen with a deer-in-the-headlights shocked look on her face, her entire head turning bright red from her bangs down to the last visible skin above the neckline of her shirt. She finally stammered, “…this is way too small for me.”
Russe had picked up the fallen photo and was staring at the picture, somewhat slack jawed and very red as well, “That’s…because it’s not for you. She…ah, modelled it for you.” He swallowed thickly and whimpered, “…for such a small lady she’s got…wow…”
Norma leaned over to look at what had Russe so tongue tied and her eyes bugged out, “Whoah! She’s huge!”
Diane was busy stuffing the lingerie back in the package, doing her best to not think about the… ‘assets’ that the much shorter and smaller woman this would have to fit both the bra and panties she had just held up for the entire mess hall to see…including the giggling teens at the next table.
It had been a week since that…particular incident, and now when they encountered a care package of the racier persuasion, they had a laugh of it in the privacy of Diane’s suite.
Today, though, the package had been from the Morvuck equivalent of a class of kindergarteners, apparently the girls who had watched Diane and the Matron bond in the street. They had wound up almost forgetting about their breakfasts as the poured through the adorably (if inexpertly) hand-crafted notes, cards, and pictures.
“Oh…my…gosh, this one’s adorable!” gushed Russe, “She writes that they voted to make you an honorary member of their class since they’re special to the Matron and you’re special to the Matron so you’re obviously sisters!”
Diane couldn’t help the ear-to-ear grin that was threatening to start actually hurting from how hard she was smiling, “Okay, keep that one separate. I want it framed and hung in Ops.”
Norma cackled at this new soft spot in their commander, but this swiftly morphed into a cooing, ‘oooh,’ as she pulled a drawn picture from the pile. “Omygosh, someone must have told them you’re a station commander, look at this!” The picture was on a material that wasn’t quite black construction paper, and amid a field of glittery, silver puff paint star dots was a child’s idea of a space station. It was incredibly crude and looked almost nothing like her station, a blob of the silvery puff paint next to a little blue and green ‘planet’ that sadly looked more like Earth or Mortan than the gas covered ball of rock and water the station was actually in orbit of. Taking up most of the picture, though, and rendered crudely in gold, white, and yellow puff paint was a dragon with a little white-suited blond woman riding on the dragon’s back.
“Okay, this is going in my office!” she said with a slightly scratchy voice as she gently took it from Norma with the tips of her fingers.
“Are you crying?!” laughed Norma.
Diane wiped the tracks of liquid from her face, “No, you’re crying! Shutup!” she said without heat as Russe and Norma laughed good naturedly.
Before they could do any more appreciation of the children’s artwork, Cynthy’s voice paged over the PA, “Commander to Ops, unscheduled inbound ship from out of system. Repeat, Commander to Ops, unscheduled inbound ship from out of system.”
The trio glanced at each other in confusion before standing to leave, Diane grabbing a pastry off her plate, which fortunately represented most of what she hadn’t eaten yet.

The Northeast Ohio Correctional Center (NEOCC). Inset left: David Lettieri (via WROC/DOJ). Inset right: An image of the defendant’s mustard packet (via Four-In-One Co., Inc.)
A convicted sex offender currently behind bars in Ohio has sued a condiment company over its labeling practices, saying that it’s keeping crucial information from consumers.
David Lettieri, 36, of Harpursville, New York, was convicted in June of enticement of a minor. According to the Department of Justice, Lettieri traveled in October 2020 to western New York to meet a 13-year-old victim “in a park in Wyoming County with the intent of having sexual intercourse.” According to the DOJ, “sexual contact did not occur,” but the investigation revealed communications between Lettieri and the girl “which were sexual in nature.”
Related Coverage:
He is currently awaiting sentencing behind bars in a privately run prison in northeast Ohio, where he apparently feels he is being misled as to the contents of a particular condiment.
“This complaint is in regards to a product that Four In One makes. It is called Salad Fresh Four in One Mustard,” Lettieri says in a federal complaint filed Friday against the Four-In-One, the company behind the allegedly offending product. “There are no Nutrition Facts on the package.”
Lettieri notes the listed ingredients: distilled vinegar, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika, spices and flavoring.

@ycllowhaired (JOHANNA)
‘i want you, Jo.” He said after a time. He hadn’t meant to let them get caught by the car’s owner. It was just that a moment like that, where they could relax into one another and be completely comfortable to melt into each other was a rare thing.
Truthfully he wanted to do it again, especially when such an activity was so rudely interrupted. In the safety of his trailer, with ( what he hoped was) minimum risk of being disturbed again, he’d be...maybe too excited. He felt like a heel for making her cry, for making her feel like things were going to fast.
In some sense, he understood her, just as she understood him. There was the fear of not being in control of their lives, the awful home, and a very narrow outlook for the future. Where he had placed this level of upbringing into fighting and rage, she had done something else with it. He thought sometimes that she ate it and without that nutrition of her traumatic existence, then she’d simply cave under the weight of it all. He could have floated through life waiting o get hit by a semi truck, or maybe wait for another right window to go out of, but now he had her. It was something to grab for, to hold onto.
And here they were on the floor of his trailer, slowly but surely scooting towards the bathroom, with her in tears over what he had considered to be something wonderful.
“I ain’t ashamed of it.” He said in the same quiet tones. Sure, there had been other girls in more public and more private places, but this was different. This wasn’t settling for a temporary relief. ( he didn’t even get that relief yet) This was... well, what was it? he hadn’t even known if she wanted to stay with him, she didn’t like labels and she had that guardian breathing down her neck. He wanted this to be serious. They had so little time as it was, she always said so.
“Its like lookin’ up girl stuff in that library book, what we done is just natural. an’... and I want you to stick around, Jo... Cause I want to stick around.” he wanted her to stop crying. he wanted to pull her into his arms and make her smile again. He didn’t have a pot to piss in, but he wanted her for forever. ”i want you to stick around.”
#ycllowhaired#c; riff#V: ST#cause we talking about how they'd handle everything in this verse and I need them cuddling and making up because reasons.

Discussion of past experiences with diet culture, fatphobia, and unsound medical practice to promote weight loss
The stuff I was taught about food growing up and as an adolescent was just bananas. It was absurd. Even ignoring my mom's eating disorder and the fact that my family was constantly dieting and watching nutrition shows and weight loss shows and whatever, the stuff I got outside the home was just as bad. I went to a fancy private school where I swear every girl had an eating disorder. And still my middle school health teacher told us things like how we should chew each bite 35 times (gross), and gave us a book literally called Food Rules, one of which was simply "Eat less." My psychiatrist was extremely concerned about the weight I gained after she put me on a number of weight inducing meds including frickin Seroquel (who could've seen that coming?) and instead of, idk, working to reduce my dose or just accepting that people gain weight on antipsychotics, she had me go on a diabetes medication (I'm not diabetic) for its off-label potential use as a weight loss drug, and when that didn't work tried to push me to do other more extreme weight loss drugs. She also literally told me to eat celery with hummus for a snack instead of carrots with hummus because celery has fewer calories. Hello??? In what possible universe do the calories from carrots fucking matter????????
No wonder I can't get those rules out of my head. I was soaked in them at home and at school and at doctor's offices for decades. When I gained weight on meds everyone acted like it was a horrible personal failure instead of something that happens to almost everyone on Seroquel. I mean, jfc, celery instead of carrots? What was wrong with these people?
Anyway. I'm eating carrots and hummus tonight and was just thinking about all of this bs. And it's so frustrating because I know it's bullshit, and yet I still can't break it. But I'm making progress at least. I might be in a bit of a backslide at this exact moment, but at least I know all of it is nonsense. I didn't used to know that. So that's progress. That's progress.
