Rapunzel's fate had been set in stone before her birth. Her mother had a rather difficult pregnancy and at times it seemed like her life would be at its end before Rapunzel would even be born. It was hard enough to conceive the child but to not even make it full term? It was something they couldn't live with. So they made a deal with a woman named Moya Gothel; they fell for her elixirs promising good health and in exchange for these bottles she asked for their child in exchange. Rapunzel's parents had no intentions of actually carrying out this deal but the moment Rapunzel was born, Moya stole her away and put her in the one place she knew no one would ever find her; an abandoned tower that only had one way in. Moya raised Rapunzel as her own and kept her hidden under the guise of keeping her safe. She was a prisoner and she didn't even know it.

The older Rapunzel became, the more she questioned the way she lived. Sure, Moya made sure she was fed and clothed, but she would leave her for hours on end and never explain where or why. Rapunzel had so many questions about the world beyond her tower and what life was like. Moya told her it was dangerous and full of thugs and people who wanted her dead. She instilled a fear into the woman that for a while, worked. Rapunzel entertained her dull life in the tower and stopped questioning her fate. And then one day she found a way out of the tower; a man clumsily finding his way into it. He was startled to see a grown woman living there and once she discovered he was not there to do her any harm…she asked him to help her leave. She needed to see the outside world for herself; she needed to confirm or deny Moya's tales. There was a restlessness in her heart and she knew that she wouldn't be able to settle herself until she saw what was out there.

Godscobh. A town full of mysterious people and mysterious ways of living. Rapunzel has a lot to learn but she's been loving every lesson learned. She's working as a freelance artist, she's meeting new people every day, and she's learning what it means to be a free person. Of course, the fear of Moya finding her is always present, but she's doing her best to swallow her fears and keep moving forward. There was no going back to how her life was before.

Notable character information: Rapunzel has been living in fear of Moya for too long, it's finally time to break free and have an adventure.

Reader: Anyway... There's atleast 2 more clothing stores available before we have to start looking elsewhere, a sports clothes store and a thrift shop.

Velvette: Pfft, thrift shop? You can't in your right mind think I'd be touching second han- wait. *Types on her phone* Thifting is in, sign me up! And then call Princess in here, her little lamb form is guaranteed to get me more likes then that bitch Geraldine's yappy mutt in socks and sunglasses.

Reader: Lute, I don't mean to be insulting or anything but I'm not sure if you could handle being a supermarket security guard. It can be a very dangerous job.

Lute: I understand you're concerns but allow me to lay them to rest with a quick demonstration of my capabilities.

Reader: Adam, the bar is looking for a live band to there regularly, not a solo guitarist. Now I'm sure you are a wonderful singer-songwriter but they're not looking for a solo musician.

Reader: Plenty, and almost all of them are places we've already got someone in so they can recommend you and you're pretty much guaranteed to be hired.

Adam: Okay Babe, fire away.

Reader: Well, the local cafés looking for another waiter (Charlies workplace).

Adam: Uh, pass.

Reader: The fast food joint needs another cashier. (Vaggies workplace)

Adam: Next.

Reader: The restaurant-dinner is willing to train up a sous-chef with no prior experience or qualifications (Angels/Husks workplace).

Adam: Eh, I don't cook.

Reader: The council is hiring more trash collectors, it sounds bad but has incredibly good pay (Niftys workplace).

Adam: As much as I'm down for driving a massive truck, somethings telling me to stay away from that little freak. She might stab me in the back or something.

Reader: You also don't have a driving license. Anyway, the radio station is hiring a files clerk (Alastors workplace).

Adam: They play rock or metal?

Alastor: *From another room* Nope!

Adam: Then, nah.

Reader: *Muttering to self* And I don't think you can work for the mechanics without a driving license either (Cherris workplace).

Reader: The florist is hiring. (Lucifers workplace).

Adam: *Fake gags*

Reader: What about working at that bowling alley and arcade pizzeria? (Voxs workplace)

Reader: *Sighs and starts rubbing temple* Well, the only other places available is the post office and that steakhouse on the outskirts of town.

Adam: Steakhouse? Now that's what I'm talking about! Sign me up straight away.

Reader: I thought you said you don't cook.

Adam: Listen Babe, it's grilling, not cooking. Big difference. Besides, I literally invented the grill, you know? It's like 1 of the top 5 best ideas I ever had, you know, right next to naming a bunch of birds 'tits'.

Reader: You invented the grill? That's actually kinda impressive.

Lucifer: Don't flatter him, love. He had to invent a whole new way of cooking meat or else he'd have starved everytime Eve made him sleep on the coach.

Adam: HEY!

something i noticed recently is that as marian is going about her character arc, her progress is evident thru her hair. seeing as how she starts out the film “tightly wound”, it makes sense the first time we see her in the film not only is she working (in an office, no less) but she also has a very proper bun in—

even when she shows up to sugar n’ spice she hasn’t changed out of her work gear, not even a teensy bit. she still has her blazer + her little blouse on and her hair is still very much up. even as carla tells her girl take your blouse off she’s like Um. No O_O

the only time in the first two-ish acts of the movie we see her w her hair fully down is when she has jamie over to give her frozen vegetables to put on her black eye, when the day is clearly over for her. she’s in the private space of her apartment only with jamie so obvs her hair is down. (you could also point to this as jamie being the only person marian is truly comfortable with, which i’d also wholeheartedly agree with.)

however as the two of them begin their Trek down south, her hair is still in the same very proper bun it seems she’s used to. even the night after marian is awkwardly kicked out of the hotel for jamie and her hookup to have sex, she still has that same fuckass bun when they’re getting pizza and spot the soccer girls.

but Notably the morning after jamie & marian’s First Kiss that marian scrambles away into the night from and after jamie picks her up from the police station, marian’s hair is now different! she’s in a high pony! (also interesting how jamie’s mess of curls have also been thrown into an updo here— this fit is the only time in the movie that she’s truly wearing a different hairstyle. i assume bcuz margaret was tired of the curlers, but it’s still a fun detail comparatively.)

when they arrive at the hotel, her hair is somewhat different once again! her once-high ponytail has sunk into a medium-bordering-on-low pony. it’s interesting to note because her bun in the first act never seems to come undone or slip at all, but she has loosened up to the point wherein she’s fine with letting her hair slip.

then- Of Course— when they have fancy dinner and jamie is courting her like a gentleman, her hair is fully down! she’s also in a cute dress, which seems like a far cry from the marian we met at the beginning of the movie who was pulling up to dyke bars in silly, boxy blazers. (i could probably write a separate post on the wardrobing without thinking, honestly.)

after this, her hair is only kind-of up (as is jamie’s) when they get kidnapped. for the rest of the movie, it pretty much stays down. and naturally, in the final scene we get of them, her hair is down and done-up so pretty and she’s in another cute and less formal dress. WHOA!!! CHARACTER DEVLOPMENT!!!!!

also important to note that jamie clearly has a Thing for touching/playing with marian’s hair— her pulling marian closer by a hand in marian’s thick black locks + jamie twirling marian’s silly little ponytail around (she’s stimming guys she has ADHD).

plus, of course, the very sweet moment before they have sex wherein jamie is moving locks of marian’s hair out of the way as she’s undressing her so lovingly. i love the sex scene because it’s so soft and tender and acts as a breather for both us and the characters. you can tell marian is definitely at Peak relaxation here, just letting jamie undress her and go down on her, especially when she’s soooo blissed out from her orgasm that she falls asleep immediately after. they’re such sweethearts… sniff sniff.

marian’s whole hair progression was just something i noticed at one point and i was like WAIT! that’s GENIUS. also genius in the fact that geraldine has beautiful hair and is literally a pretty pretty princess, so seeing her be at Peak Princess only really at the end of the film feels like a reward. it’s such a change regardless, but one you can clearly see is coming from marian becoming more comfortable with herself and entering a relationship with jamie, who she’s always loved, a girl who has always loved marian as she is. gahd-damn it. i love this movie.
