NRK: Want to change the Constitution so that Ingrid Alexandra can act as regent
Today, only the Crown Prince can step in if the King falls ill. Several Storting politicians want to change that.

Two substitutes at the Palace are better than one. At least that's what a number of politicians think.
For the first time since 1905, Norway has two generations of off-age royal heirs: Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Ingrid Alexandra.
But according to the constitution, only the highest heir to the throne can step in as regent if King Harald is on sick leave or travelling. If the Crown Prince cannot act as a substitute, the government acts as head of state.
- In the vast majority of cases, this will be completely unproblematic. But we can get into situations where the government is dissolved or has to be reorganised. Then it will be very unfortunate that it is the government itself that chooses its own successors, says Sverre Myrli (Labour Party) to NRK.
Now he and five other representatives of the Storting want to change the Constitution so that Ingrid Alexandra can also act as regent.
The proposal was put forward for the first time in the Storting on Monday [Oct. 7].
- It is a principled proposal. But in the current situation, we have an heir to the throne in the second generation who is of age, but who cannot step in if needed.

In addition to Myrli, the proposal has also been signed by Carl I. Hagen (Progress Party), Marit Arnstad (Centre Party), Trond Helleland (Conservative Party), André N. Skjelstad (Liberal Party) and Kjell Ingolf Ropstad (Christian Democratic Party).
- It is very interesting that so many representatives from different parties are together on this. Then we'll see if there are any objections and whether there will be a debate, says Myrli.
[...]
Both [Trond Norén Isaksen, royal commentator] and Myrli point out that neighbouring countries such as Sweden, Denmark and Great Britain have similar rules which means that more than the nearest heir to the throne can act as a substitute.
But that the law should include other members of the Royal Family beyond the next heir to the throne, for example, Princess Märtha Louise or Prince Sverre Magnus, is not an option, Isaksen believes.
- Royals who have their own careers have commercial ties. Those who can act as regents are those who have a full-time royal role, and that is precisely what this proposal is about. In that sense, I see nothing controversial about this.
However, any change in [the role as regent] at the Palace will not take place until next autumn at the earliest.
In order to amend the constitution, proposals must first be made during the first three years of a parliamentary term. Thereafter, the proposal must remain until after the next general election before it can be adopted.
- It also requires two-thirds to agree, and we do not know what the Storting will look like next year. In that sense, it is impossible to say whether it will go through at the present time, says Isaksen.

She was a daughter of Frederick VIII's son Harald. Knud and Caroline-Mathilde had three children: Princess Elisabeth, Prince Ingolf and Prince Christian.
Prince Knud was born on 27 July 1900 at Sorgenfri Palace in Kongens Lyngby north of Copenhagen during the reign of his great-grandfather, King Christian IX. His parents were Christian of Denmark, son of the heir apparent Frederick, and Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Knud's only sibling, Frederick, had been born one year before him.

The wedding of King Constantine II of the Hellenes, and Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark took place on Friday, 18 September 1964 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, two weeks after Anne-Marie's 18th birthday.Constantine II, King of the Hellenes was the only son of King Paul of the Hellenes and Princess Friederike of Hanover, while Princess Anne-Marie was the youngest daughter of King Frederick IX of Denmark and Princess Ingrid of Sweden. It was the first, and to date only, wedding of a Greek monarch whilst they sat on the throne to be held in Greece
Princess Anne-Marie wore a relatively unadorned gown by Danish designer, Jørgen Bender. Her Irish lace veil, worn by her maternal grandmother, Princess Margaret of Connaught at her own wedding in 1905, was anchored by a Cartier diamond tiara given to Princess Margaret by the Khedive of Egypt. The veil had also been worn by her mother, Queen Ingrid, in 1935. The veil and tiara together have been worn by all of Ingrid's female descendants.
King Constantine II wore the ceremonial uniform of field marshal of the Hellenic Army. He wore the riband and star of the Order of the Redeemer as well as all his other medals and decorations.
The wedding was attended by 1200 guests from all over the world. As both the bride and groom were descendants of Victoria of the United Kingdom and Christian IX of Denmark, they were closely related to almost all of the royal houses in Europe, many of whom were in attendance.

🇩🇰 Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark
- Count Ingolf of Rosenborg
- Countess Sussie of Rosenborg
“Since 1932, the Royal Ship Dannebrog has served as a floating "castle" for the royal family. The 90-year-old ship serves as both the official and private residence for Her Majesty the Queen as the ship takes part in tasks such as water monitoring, sea rescue and training of future officers. Dannebrog thus also functions as a school ship and workplace.
All this forms the basis for the exhibition "Royal Ship Dannebrog" at the Kings' Collection Koldinghus, which was opened today by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince.
As the first official guest at the exhibition, the Crown Prince could experience the museum's ruins' many tires that have been put into play in the exhibition and provide an experience of standing on board the Royal Ship with sailcloth, deck chairs and life wreaths - all together added to the sound of the engine room mixed with the voices of the ship guests and the screams of seagulls.
Present at today's exhibition opening were also His Excellency Count Ingolf and Countess Sussie of Rosenborg.”

Note
who do you thinks gonna be at the confirmation?
Well, Joachim, Marie, John and Susan not bothering to go just opened a lot of space 🥴 So 25... since the DRF considers it a private event, I doubt we’ll get an official guest list. I’m thinking they’ll go for the closest (family and people special to Christian) for the 25 in the church, and then I think they might pop up an open pavilion outside for the celebration afterwards.
Essentials (9):
Queen Margrethe II
Crown Prince Frederik
Crown Princess Mary
Prince Christian
Princess Isabella
Prince Vincent
Princess Josephine
Prince Nikolai
Prince Felix
I’d be surprised if not (3):
Princess Benedikte (I can’t imagine Benedikte won’t be there)
Jeppe and Birgitte Handwerk (Jeppe being the only of Christian’s godparents who’ll “be able” to go (🙄) and together with Birgitte, they’re some of M&F’s closest friends)
Very likely (3):
Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (another family member who lives in Denmark, she’s also close to M&F (but not close enough for them to make her godmother of one of the kids 😒), I can definitely see her going)
Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille (Alexandra’s husband and a friend of M&F (and Vincent’s godfather), if Alexandra is going, I’m pretty sure Michael is too)
Countess Ingrid von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth (Alexandra’s daughter who also lives in Denmark and have spent a lot of time with Christian growing up)
Outer tier of likeliness but not straight up unlikely (7):
Mette Hansen (Christian and his siblings’ former nanny. They’ve had several nannies, I only know the names of a few of them, but I know they were very close to Mette and I can imagine her getting an invite – probably alongside some of the other people (based in Denmark) who’ve been and still are close to the children)
The children’s chamber assistant (no name man or The Manny™, an aide-de-camp type of person M&F hired last year)
The Handwerk daughters (they’d obviously accompany their parents and they’re also close to both Christian and Bella)
One of QMII’s ladies-in-waiting (my guess would be Annelise Wern who, I believe, is the longest serving of her four LiWs – if she’s going, Benedikte might bring hers as well)
Count Ingolf and Countess Sussie of Rosenborg (listen, I’m grasping at straws here but Ingolf is QMII’s cousin and since so many other people aren’t able to go, maybe they’ve invited them?)
OR, Christian might have invited his friends to go? That would be a neat touch since he won’t be confirmed alongside his classmates like you’d usually be.
I’m sort of on the edge about whether or not they’d invite friends beyond the Handwerks and Michael ALB (who’d go in capacity of Alexandra’s husband). When there’s restricted attendance, it very easily becomes a game of Which Friends Are We Closest To My gut tells me they’d probably hold off on the friends till the party afterwards but otherwise, this seems to be the closest circle:
Peter and Caroline Heering
Jørgen and Malou Skeel
Otto and Helle Reedtz-Thott
Rikke and Michael Juel Brandt
Christian and Elisabeth Buchwald
Bendt and Pernille Wedell
Ellen Hillingsø and Christoffer Castenskiold
Anders and Anne Holch Povlsen
All + children.
Probably not:
Countess Alexandra of Fredensborg (would LOVE it if Alexandra went when Joachim and Marie couldn’t be arsed to go but I fear M&F fear it would cause a stir)
Benedikte Tholstrup (Nikolai’s girlfriend – she might be invited to a possible party afterwards but I doubt she’d accompany Nikolai to the church)
