Okay idk if anyone else randomly rewatches Prince of Persia, but I was watching it today and got an awesome idea. (Jaytim shipping AU ahead, you've been warned; if you don't like it just keep scrolling)
So, basic synopsis of the movie if you've never seen it before: Prince Dastan, an adopted street kid, helps his brothers conquer the holy city of Alamut due to false info from their uncle. There is a special rewind-time dagger & secret in the city that the uncle wants in order to become king. Dastan gets framed and has a wonderful deadly slow-burn enemies-to-lovers adventure with the priestess/princess Tamina. No spoilers for how it all ends up alright but BOY OH BOY does it work perfectly for a JayTim AU.
King: Bruce (duh)
Eldest prince Tus: Dick
Prince Dastan: Jason
Prince Garsiv: Damian
Princess Tamina: Tim
Uncle Nizam: the best I can figure would be half-brother Lex?
Bis, Dastan's best friend: Roy
Hassassins: league of assassins, duh
Obviously some of the plot would need to change but I think it would make for a perfect JayTim enemies-to-lovers AU 🤩
Will I ever write it? Maybe, maybe not. But the idea is out there! If anyone else wants to do something with this idea just tag/DM me!
#jaytim#Jason Todd#tim drake#prince of persia#prince of persia AU#if you don't like Jaytim then move on#I'm tagging it and warning you#that's my due diligence if you don't like the ship

A Comprehensive List
This year marks a decade of me writing fanfiction. Therefore, I thought it would be a fun exercise if I made comprehensive list of every fictional character I’ve ever written fanfics about.
Some of the following are pretty common ones that all of you have seen on my blog. Some of them are a bit more obscure, but you could find them on other sites I’m on if you really wanted to. Some have never been published at all. Some of these stories were romances for characters I love; some of them are darker fics about characters I hate (Don’t think being featured on this list means I stan a character). Some of these I actively write for; some I write for when I’m in the mood; some are just things from my past.
I’ve written for so many characters, and comparatively few of them have been featured on this blog. I thought it would be fun, and it would give all of you the chance to get to know me a bit better. Feel free to message me any time about any of these characters any time. Love or hate (mostly love), these are all characters I feel very strongly about. And I get to talk about very few of them in the grand scheme of things, so it would be nice if I got to chit chat about some of the more obscure ones.
Without further ado, categorized as best I can, here is a list of the 144 characters who have consumed the last 10 years of my life:

So! Another movie adaptation review. This time, I’m doing (*insert drumroll here*)...
PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME!
(This movie was recently added to Disney+ btw. Guess they finally remembered that it existed...I opted to not pay like Speed Racer though. Yo ho yo ho, a pirate’s life for me...)
It’s based on the Prince of Persia series (the Sands of Time Trilogy, not the two originals or the 2008 remake). So Disney got the rights to make this movie way back in...
2004? The movie came out six years later!
Anyway, they got the rights at that point. The producer apparantly worked on Pirates of the Carribean, so they decided to try and make a PotC esque franchise by taking cool elements from the source and making a good movie from it (though this time it was a game instead of a theme park ride). They also changed some stuff for the release date in hopes of launching a such a franchise afterwards.
So did they succeed?
Haven’t seen development for a second movie...so...I guess not. Come to think of it, outside of a likely mediocre VR game, there’s been nothing new for Prinxe of Persia in Ren years since the release of this movie and forgotten sands...
But I’m not here to discuss the issues of loosing what could have possibly-maybe-not really been another great franchise like Pirates’. I’m here to discuss whether or not it’s actually a terrible movie as many say it is.
This time, I’m going to try to break it down to pieces for the purposes of being comprehensible and sounding like I know what the fuck I’m talking about rather than just giving a likely subjective opinion...
ANYWAY LET’S GET TO IT!
1. THE STORY (spoilers ahead)
If you went to this movie believeing it would try to exactly copy the story of the first game, then I’ve absolutely no idea what to tell you. So I guess I’ll make a list of similarities and differences about such things
Similarities:
Persian Prince attacks city, gets Dagger, saves princess, runs from bad guys, fights bad guy, gets sent back in time to the start of the game (or movie in this case) and prevents the villain’s plan from ever really getting off the ground to begin with.
Said Prince is good at parkour and swordfighting.
Unfortunately, Princess doesn’t do much outside of being eye candy, occasionally share exposition, and take the Dagger from the Prince at one point (could they seriously not make her, like, be at least able to fight well? C’mon Disney, if you wanted to make this movie discount pirates, at least make the female lead more like Elizabeth and less like Sleeping Beauty!)
The King dies and then un-dies when the timeline gets reset or whatever
And now Differences! First, I will say that I understand some of these had to be made to adjust to the new medium (video games and movies aren’t experienced the same way, after all), but I’m still going to list them
The Prince has a name: Dastan.
He has two brothers, Tus and Garsiv
His uncle is the revealed villain instead of some random no-name Vizer
The movie is mostly in the desert city of Alamut and some nearby desert-y areas of Persia while the game takes place in India
The Princess’s name is Tamina instead of Farah
A lot of the side peoples like the Hassansins, Seso, and Sheik Amar were added to the movie
The Prince doesn’t release the Sands of Time in the start of the story. Instead it only happens in the Third Act
So, I’d say overall there was an alright job at changing the story to fit a movie setting more. You can’t really have a character that has much more human interactions as opposed to just parkour and fighting sand monsters not have some sort of name. The side characters help to establish decent side parts to the story.
Overall, I think the story is...okay. It’s not amazing, but I think it gets the job done in a reasonable fashion.
2. THE CHARACTERS
Now for the other important part. Before I get into the performance, I will say I’m disappointed in yet another instance of whitewashing in Hollywood. I would’ve definitely liked it if they could’ve avoided this issue, but for now I’ll tick off points for that and discuss the performances.
Jake Gyllenhaal does a pretty great job as Dastan. He’s a dashing rogue with some good lines and generally sells his performance pretty well despite the mediocre plot and story.
Ben Kingsley does a good job as the traitor uncle Nizam. While he’s not always as threatening as, say, the Hassansins, he does certainly have his moments in the film and his motivations are hinted at early in and make sense.
Richard Coyle’s Tus (left) and Toby Kebbell’s Garsiv (right) are mediocre. They’re not as interesting as Dastan or some other characters I’ll mention later, but I will say Tus as a character seemed a lot better and more fleshed out for the most part than Garsiv.
Tamina. Already said she’s a missed opportunity for a badass female lead. However, Gemma Arterton makes most of her interactions with Dastan pretty believable and I’ll admit that her attempts at trying to get the Dagger of Time back from The Prince are pretty neat and she almost succeeds two out of four times (actually nearly killed him in one of them, but he gets saved by:
Yeah, I know it’s a dead meme, but you get the idea.
And lastly, one of my personal favorite performances in the movie, Alfred Molina as Sheik Amar and Steve Toussaint as Seso. They’re not in the movie very long, but I have to say that they’re both my favorites in their own way. Molina’s Amar is quite funny and bizarre and makes for an entertaining supporting character, and despite the unfortunately limited speaking and screen time for Seso, his skill and general badassary are portrayed well.
I’d say most of the characters were good despite the many missed opportunities for the characters and the whitewashing issue. So! I’ll wrap up with a discussion on the effects and action (but not music. The soundtrack was pretty generic imo.)
3. THE ACTION AND EFFECTS
This is definitely the highlight of the film. The action, from the free running to the fights, is all done very well. One of my low key favorite scenes is just before the invasion of Alamut, where Dastan climbs the outer wall. Also, the effects when he rewinds time with the Dagger are amazing. (links aren’t working for me right now so you’ll have to find them yourself.)
Honestly, there’s a lot wrong with this movie between the whitewashing, the not-always-great characters and interactions, and the mediocre plot and soundtrack among other things. However, when this movie does something well, it does it pretty damn well. I think it’s a shame that this movie wasn’t completely able to break the “video game movie” mold, but for what it is, a swashbuckling action adventure movie, it’s good.
7.5/10
Honestly, if I had a decent mike, I could probably make a small YouTube series outta this instead of making a Tumblr essay...

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, is a third-person action adventure video game. The game was published and developed by Ubisoft. It was released on November 2003, for the Gameboy, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox and Microsoft windows.
The story takes place during the 9th century AD, in Persia, where a Prince is narrating about his adventures. The Prince tells the story about his journey with his army, through India, to visit the Sultan of Azad. Along the way, they meet a Vizier of a local Maharaja, who wants to cheat death by using the, “Sands of Time.” He tricks the Prince and his army into attacking the Maharaja's Palace, where the “Sands” are stored within a dagger (Dagger of Time). During the battle, the Prince steels the, “Dagger of Time.” The Maharaja's daughter, Farah, is kidnapped by the Prince, with the intention of giving her to the Sultan of Azad, as a gift. When they finally meet with Azad, the Vizier tricks the Prince into releasing the “Sands,” turning everyone except the Prince, the Vizier, and Farah, into monsters. The Vizier then attempts to steal the Dagger from the Prince, but the Prince manages to escape with Farah. The two agree to work together to undo the horrific effects of the “Sands” and to prevent it from spreading worldwide. They find the remaining “Sands” stored in an hourglass, located in a tomb under the city. This is where the climax of the game takes place, Farah sacrificing herself to save the Prince. While mourning over her death, the Prince is accosted by the Vizier with an offer of eternal life, in exchange for the dagger. The Prince refuses and stabs the hourglass with the dagger. This causes time to rewind to a point in time before the attack on Maharaja's palace. The Prince, with the dagger in hand and memories of what is about to transpire, runs ahead to warn Farah of the Vizier's treachery. Later, it is revealed that the Prince has been telling the tale of his adventures to, Farah. She believed the tale to be fictitious story. As the Prince concludes the story, the Vizier enters and attempts to kill him. Instead, the Prince kills the Vizier and returns the Dagger to Farah. He then whispers a private word she told him during their travels together. Farah is stunned in amazment.
The Gameplay consists of the player controlling the Prince from a third-person perspective. The Prince can be moved in all directions, and is able to manipulate large objects, such as blocks and levers, that are connected to mechanisms. The Prince has many special abilities: wall-running, climbing along and across ledges, walking along beams, swinging on and jumping from poles, jumping onto and between pillars, and swinging on ropes. The player navigates through many areas filled with traps, including spike pits, arrow traps, wall-mounted blades and saws, and spinning spiked stakes. During the Prince's journey, you encounter various puzzles within large rooms. Many of these puzzles are cooperative, requiring Farah's help to complete them. The player also fights various types of monsters, created by the Sands of Time.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, is an American action fantasy film. It was released by Walt Disney Pictures on May 28, 2010. The movie was directed by Mike Newell and written by Jordan Mechner, Boaz Yakin, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard. The film shares the same title as the video game from which it is based.
Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), is a street urchin in Persia, who was adopted by King Sharaman (Ronald Pickup). Fifteen years later, Sharaman's brother, Nizam (Ben Kingsley), receives proof that the Holy City of Alamut is supplying weapons to the enemies of Persia. Dastan, along with the King's two sons, Tus (Richard Coyle) and Garsiv (Toby Kebbell), are sent to siege and take over Alamut. Dastan and his friends breach the city by opening the gates, allowing the Persian army to enter. During the attack, Dastan defeats a guard and takes his special dagger. Alamut is defeated, but Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) denies that her people are supplying arms to the enemies of Persia. Tus asks her to marry him, in order to unite the two nations. She agrees, but only after seeing the dagger in Dastan's possession. During the celebration, Dastan is fooled into offering a poisonous food to King Sharaman. After consuming the food, the King experiences a burning sensation deep within his body and suddenly dies. Garsiv accuses Dastan of being the murderer, forcing Dastan and Tamina to flee. Tus is then appointed king and orders a search for the Prince. While in hiding, Tamina attempts to kill Dastan, in hopes of gaining possession of the special dagger. During the struggle, Dastan discovers that the dagger enables its wielder to travel back in time. He comes to the conclusion that Tus invaded Alamut for the dagger, and decides to confront him. He travels to Avrat, in search of Tus. Dastan first tries to convince his Uncle Nizam that he was not responsible for his father's death. While speaking with his uncle, Dastan notices burns on Nizam's hands, indicating he was the one who set up the murder of the King. He also realizes that Tamina stole the dagger. Nizam sends a group of skilled warriors to kill Dastan and find the dagger. Dastan escapes and finds Tamina. He asks her about the powers of the dagger. She explains that it enables someone to time travel by one minute. Dastan finally realizes that Nizam’s plan is to place the dagger in the sandglass containing the Sands of Time. When the dagger is used in conjunction with the sandglass, it enables you to travel to any point in time. This would allow Nizam to travel back in time to his childhood and change the course of history. Instead of saving his brother, Sharaman, from a lion attack, he would allow it to happen. With Sharaman dead, Nizam would be the King of Persia. Tamina explains that if Nizam goes forward with his plan, the sandglass would be broken and destroy the world. Together, they race to the tomb, where the sandglass is stored. There they find Nizam stabbing the sandglass with the dagger. This causes the ground to shift and throwing Dastan and Tamina off balance. Dastan finds himself hanging off a cliff holding Tamina in hand. While struggling to pull both himself and Tamina up,Tamina sacrifices herself to save Dastan. Dastan and Nizam fight to the death. After the battle, victorious Dastan, removes the dagger from the sandglass, which resets time to the moment Dastan originally found the dagger. With memories of what transpired, Dastan quickly finds Tus and Garsiv, and warns both of them of Nizam's betrayal. In this newly formed timeline, Nizam attempts to kill Dastan, but is subdued and killed by Tus. Tus apologizes to Tamina and proposes that their two nations be bound by her marrying Dastan. Dastan returns the dagger to Tamina as an engagement gift and tells her he looks forward to their future together as she takes his hand in marriage.
Both the game and the movie follow similar plots while utilizing different character names. I feel the theme of the video game is, “The Quest for Power and Immortality.” The movie’s theme, is that of “Family Betrayal and Mistrust.” Both the movie and the game shared a dark and gray cinematography. I enjoyed watching the movie more than playing the video game. In my opinion, the reason this movie was so enjoyable, is to a large extent, the excellent acting of Ben Kingsley, in his portrayal of, Nizam. I would rate this movie a 9/10

Vraiment excellent.

Prince of Persia was, honestly, kinda refreshing. Like, upon my initial watch, I thought that Garsiv would wind up being evil because he looked so different from Tus and Dastan (that being his hair was tied back/braided and it was black, he was violence prone, he was always wearing armour of some kinda and it was dark in colour). In American-made media, if somethings different (especially if it has a lot of dark colours), it's usually gonna be evil or bad. To see a piece of media that, for once, didn't do that was kinda nice. Also, the fact that none of the three were evil was also really nice.
Sidenote: Garsiv was my favourite out of them and I wish we'd gotten to see more.
THIS THIS, I SWEAR I WOULD PRINT THIS ASK AND HANG IT!!
In any other american - made film of that era, Garsiv would have been the main target of Nizam and a secondary antagonist.
The story would have been like:
Nizam projected his power hungry ambitions into Garsiv, who he raised in the same insecurities about being the youngest. Tus is the perfect copy of Sharaman because he is the heir, so Nizam teaches Garsiv to share his resentment and turns him into his evil minion mini me. By the time Dastan is adopted, Tus and Garsiv are already a Thor and Loki duo and his arrival only encourages the resentment of Garsiv. He gets along with Tus inmediately, since he can find in Dastan what the broken sibling bond with Garsiv lacks.
Garsiv feels completely replaced by Dastan, turns into a villian and participates of Nizam's complot.
IT DIDN'T HAPPEN, IT DIDN'T!
A few days ago i was rewatching the movie with my sister and she spent the whole time waiting for a " Garsiv is evil" obvious plot twist that never happened.
I LOVE THAT THEY DIDN'T DO IT, SERIOUSLY LOVE IT!
They gave us a lovely, healthy, awesome trio of brothers without that shitty complusion of villianizing one through dark colouring!
I love Garsiv, he definitely deserved more screentime.
#people see this dude#and the first thing the will think is ' that's one of the antagonists'#NO!#that's not a bad guy#that's a chaotic sunshine who loves his brothers#prince of persia#prince of persia: the sands of time#garsiv#prince garsiv#toby kebbell
