sometimes i think about those mornings just after the curse has been broken and adam waking up to warm sunshine and he just lays in bed looking at his hands for a while because he still can’t believe it’s real. he curls his fingers and wiggles his toes and he just feels all bubbly inside. he smiles and it feels weird. happiness feels foreign, peace feels wrong. but he lets himself feel these things for the first time in a long time. now that belle’s here, he finds it much easier to feel these things. he thinks fondly of his belle… how good it feels to call her his. he knows she’ll already be up and waiting for him in the breakfast room. he’s excited to see her. joy fills him and he embraces it. he gets out of bed and passes the mirror that’s no longer shattered. he sees his face and it still startles him. he sees a stranger, but a stranger he’d like to be some day. he blinks and fixes his hair and gets dressed. another day in a new, warm, sunny chapter.

Anywhoodle, what do I think of Captain James Bartholomew Hook, AKA the Vainglorious Vengeful Swordsman?!

Well, despite the fact that his tiny waist and hourglass figure make my knees weak. His prominent, sharply defined chin that juts forward with a hint of arrogance. His face is a portrait of cunning with high cheekbones and a perpetual smirk. Luxurious, jet-black curls cascade down to his shoulders, always impeccably styled. His thick, arched eyebrows convey a constant look of mischievous plotting. And finally, his mustache is a thin, curling work of art, highlighting his sophisticated yet sinister demeanor. Not to mention how proud I am of him for getting over his fear of crocodiles—I think he's DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS! Who doesn't love a man in heels?! 😍😭💖

Now, where was I going with this? Oh, yeah! Who do I ship him with?

Okay, I ship Hook with Jafar, Hades, Gaston, Maleficent, Ursula, Cruella, the Evil Queen, Tinker Bell, and finally Aurora/Briar Rose.

Hook and Aurora are my current OTP based on my mood right now because I love to imagine Aurora wrapping her elegant arm around his delicate, womanly waist and pulling him close as she uses her mighty faerie shield to protect them both from the Fractured. Aurora is a wrecking ball with rose-shaped bangs and a flowy dress that makes his knees weak~

Hook's the only one who consciously remembers to call Aurora by her preferred name, Briar Rose. Mickey and the other guardians slip up constantly, but she's too polite to say anything and appreciates that Hook always remembers. He often engages in chivalrous acts, like offering his hand to help her down a step or draping his crocodile skin coat over her shoulders when it's cold. He likes to play his piano for her and grows daffodils (a headcanon inspired by Shrek 3). And guess whose hair is the same color as daffodils? 👀

Now what do I think of Prince Adam of France, AKA The Beast and the Knight-Errant of the Enchanted Wood? First off, this beastly beauty is looking sharp in his family armor! Puns fully intended! I love that his armor is a family heirloom, with that rose emblem is on his breastplate and cape. You know, I always liked Beast/Adam's human form, but Disney Mirrorverse made me LOVE his human form! Look at him; he's like Edmond Dantès from Manga Classics: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, Jareth the Goblin King, Howl Jenkins Pendragon, and Adrian Țepeș/Alucard all wrapped up into one! Seeing a grief-stricken, half-formed beast is something I never knew I needed in my life! Oh yeah, knighthood and that battle axe look gewd on him.

Okie dokie, I ship this beastie boy with Belle, Gaston, Aurora, Snow White, Ariel, Jasmine, Tiana, Cinderella, Aladdin, Hercules, Kuzco, and my fave, Elsa.

I love him with Hercules because Herc is just so sweet and soft to him. But... Beast and Elsa are my OTP because my friend @frie-ice brought the "Beast of Intentions" Disney Mirrorverse event to my attention and lost my mind. I ship them because they're both social outcasts who were ashamed of who they are and thus shut themselves off from the rest of the world. But I love to imagine that they take comfort in and identify with each other over their shared experiences of isolation and self-discovery. Beast, with his struggle to accept his monstrous form, and Elsa, with her fear of her uncontrollable powers, found solace in one another's understanding and empathy. Together, they learn to embrace their true selves, heal from their past wounds, and discover the beauty in their unique qualities~

Now what do I think of Queen Anna, AKA the Ward of Arendelle?! I love this little ray of sunshine right down to her perfectly coiffed hair bun, elegantly accented by the striking white streak that runs through it. Her armor is nothing short of magnificent! Encrusted with troll crystals, embodying the enchanted protection she wields! The Joan of Arc-esque design symbolizes her bravery and leadership, with intricate detailing that showcases both strength and grace~

She is my favorite melee guardian to use because of her special ability called Elemental Surge. This ability is fantastic because it wrecks everyone within her circle, unlike Hercules and Snow White's abilities, which are limited to one enemy. Anna has carried me through this game and was my strongest melee guardian until I got a duplicate Snow White crystal that unlocked her fifth astral rating/level.

I ship this sunspot with Merida, Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Moana, Jasmine, Elizabeth Swan, Rapunzel, Aladdin, Hades, Aurora, Mulan, Ian Lightfoot, Snow White, Tiana, Kuzco, and finally, Sheriff Woody Pride. Anna just has that personality type that makes her very shippable.

Despite Anna and Buzz Lightyear being in the Hopeful Heroism Disney Mirrorverse Event together, they see each other only as friends. Meanwhile, Woody is a rugged, heavy-hitting cowboy who secretly crushes on Anna... hard! He gets all flustered and stutters around her like he did with Bo Peep from his source world. Anna, ever the warm and welcoming soul, remains oblivious to Woody's feelings, treating him with the same kindness and camaraderie she shows every guardian. Woody's heart races every time she smiles at him, and he's constantly torn between his duty as a sheriff and his burgeoning feelings for her. He’ll throw hands at any and all Fractured to protect her and often lets Anna wear his hat, a gesture of his deep affection and trust. The two share a unique bond, sometimes even finishing each other's sandwiches~

This game has truly provided a canvas for me to think of so many imaginative scenarios and relationships. There’s a lot of fun and potential in exploring these characters’ dynamics because, since their source worlds have changed, maybe that means their romantic and platonic relationships can change too. For instance, we know that Belle and Beast end up together in their source world, but ever since two blazing stars, one light and one dark, collided, their destinies have shifted. This opens up new possibilities for who they could become and who they might connect with. So maybe Belle might find herself attracted to a big, blue, compassionate, and caring guy like Sulley. 😳👉👈

Anywhoodle, sorry for the long info dump/rambling. I genuinely loved answering this! It’s great to hear you’re diving back into it. Disney Mirrorverse has always been such a delightful and quirky game. If you ever want to chat about your favorite moments or characters, I'm all ears!

just curious… why, if you already have a stereotypical himbo jock comic relief background character, would you randomly introduce another? i mean chad and gil both are very underdeveloped characters that do very little for the plot besides saying and doing dumb things to make the audience laugh. definitely not to be foils of each other, right?

oh, i see, you had to make a reference to gil’s father so you had to make gil his son. despite the fact that you already had a character, chad, with all the same personality traits as gil’s father (vain, dumb, obsessed with looks and status, notorious ladies man but constantly pining after one specific girl, athletic, wealthy and popular, egotistical, misogynistic at times) and is theorized to be adopted. that’s interesting.

surely it’s a coincidence that despite never interacting, they both have extremely similar personalities and mannerisms and serve similar purpose to the plot (being the dumb comic relief that doesn’t affect much else, as previously mentioned). surely it’s a coincidence that they both have dirty blond hair and hazel eyes, notably reminiscent of the blonde triplets from the original beauty and the beast movie who only existed to pine after gaston (gil’s canonical father). surely it’s a coincidence that the adjective “charming” in chad charming’s name and his (possibly adoptive) father prince charming’s have complete opposite connotations in the respective media they originated from (prince charming’s name in the original cinderella fairytale using the word “charming” to show he was not just handsome but also kind and noble, whereas “charming” in chad charming’s name is in reference to his NATURAL charisma, his ability to get away with whatever he wants cuz he’s handsome and popular and his ability to charm women, things that are generally considered negative traits of his). this “natural charm” couldn’t possibly be something he’d inherited from a biological father he’d never known, right?

im just saying, imagine you’re a young, single mother who just found out you’re pregnant and you’re not ready for a child. to make matters worse, your baby daddy is the king’s arch nemesis and has been exiled to a deserted island for the Bad People. he doesn’t know you’re pregnant with his child, but you’ve already seen at least one (likely more, since he probably had a lot of baby mamas, let’s be honest) child that was claimed as his be exiled along with him, either exiling the mother as well or separating her from her child, leaving the child to be raised by a deadbeat dad on this underdeveloped prison island filled with murderers and other criminals. the most logical thing to do would be to put your infant son up for adoption and claim you don’t know who the father is.

surely gil and chad couldn’t be (half) brothers, right? surely it’s not a story of privilege and nature vs nurture and the similarities and differences of two sons of gaston, one raised by him on the isle (tho i don’t imagine gaston was a very involved father and HC gil was raised more by the community), and one raised in auradon by different parents never knowing his biological father, right? surely it’s not a testament to the fact that even tho gil was “raised” by his father, growing up on the isle he never had access to the same levels of privilege, wealth, and quality of life his father had grown up with before being exiled, whereas chad, despite being raised by the “good guys,” grows up over privileged and extremely wealthy, leading to a sense of entitlement and ego to the point that he acts more like gaston even than gil does. surely gaston isn’t chad’s biological father. cause that would be a crazy claim to make that surely doesn’t have enough evidence to back it up… right?

I would like to know what happened with Dior and Helene before she died

For sure! So with Dior his background is basically just spoiled rotten French Prince. The Beast with no character development + a downward spiral into despotism.

But Hélène 's story is that she was a child from the Everrealm traded to Rumplestiltskin, one of those "I'll help you out of the dark woods you're lost in if you promise to give me the thing you have that you don't know you have" fairytales where it turns out the thing is a baby on the way. Oopsies.

She's kept as a servant by him in his castle, and she isn't treated horribly but she isnt really loved either. She's a tool in his arsenal to be used for later, whenever having a random beautiful girl on hand might be useful.

I feel like there were a few times she played the fairytale role of "beautiful girl kept in the monster's castle that helps the hero steal the thing he needs o learn the secret he needs to learn to fulfill his quest" and she was swept off her feet each time thinking this time this prince/millar's son/theif would sweep her away to her Happily Ever After--but they never did.

So by the time Rumplestiltskin asks her if she'd like to be a queen for a man who'd prize her like a precious jewel she readily agreed, and took her place as Dior's wife. Realizing soon after that he'd only ever value her for her beauty and the fact that he could possess it.

By then she was convinced that True Love as talked about in stories didn't really exist, and was resigned to her life. Even when she chanced to meet a wandering Enchantress, this powerful being could not summon a up a True Love for her. (Though this was more due to Rumplestiltskin's magical bonds over her obscuring the Enchantress's magic then any true lack of potential for her to find one)

Her happiest moments were when she could spend time with her son, Adam. She often took him with her to their summer palace where they could be with the kind staff she'd chosen herself and away from the backstabbing gossiping court life her husband prefered.

But unfortunately when Adam was 9 she fell ill from a sickness crossing the land and died, leaving him to fall under the sole care of his father, who eventually stuck him in the summer palace permanently until he could be old enough to be useful.

Due to his grief from his loss of his mother and rejection by his father Adam began to lash out at his caretakers, and to act more like his father in hopes this would meet his approval and he'd be taken back by the only parent he had left.

Unfortunately his worsening temper landed him afoul of a powerful Enchantress, who in her own grief over discovering the loss of her friend lashed out and cursed the young prince and all within his palace...

Also it wasn't intentional to have her be all dressed in gold and Belle having a gold dress, Hélène 's gold was meant to be reflective of her link to Rumplestiltskin and Dior, but I kinds really like the idea that Belle's ballgown once belonged to Hélène

So yeah that's the backstory for the Beast's mother!

Autism headcanon:

The Beast/Prince Adam (Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," 1991)

*Except when he's angry, the Beast is quiet and reserved. His words tend to be few and concise. He's also a loner until Belle arrives. Not just because he hides from the outside world, as anyone transformed into a monster would do, but because he apparently spends most of his time brooding alone in his room, not even interacting much with the servants until Belle's presence brings him out of his shell.

*Despite being a prince who would presumably have learned court etiquette, he struggles at first with the most basic social skills and manners, relying on his servants to coach him. Of course this is partly the effect of the spell (he presumably didn't lap his porridge like an animal when he was human), and partly his insecurity about his appearance. But it's still relatable from an ASD perspective.

*Some of his outbursts of rage seem less like mere temper and more like meltdowns. Especially his outburst when he catches Belle in the West Wing. The way he smashes the furniture, and the way his whole body contorts with fury as he roars "GET OUUUUT!" doesn't come across as just a tantrum. It's as if the situation – his orders disobeyed, his privacy violated, the humiliation of Belle seeing his beastly lair, and above all the horror of seeing her nearly damage the magic rose – completely overwhelms him with emotion he can't control. And this clearly isn't a one-time incident. The broken furniture and torn fabrics throughout the West Wing (and of course the torn portrait of his human self) shows that throughout his years of misery under the spell, he's been prone to overpowering meltdowns where he has to vent physically. In the Special Edition of the movie, he does it again in his anguish after he lets Belle go, trashing the room which the servants had cleaned up during "Human Again."

*Also in the Special Edition and in the stage musical, it's revealed that he can barely read. This despite the fact that he was a prince who would presumably have had the best of education. Now, one interpretation of this is that he's forgetting how to read because his mind is turning increasingly bestial under the spell. But the dialogue in the musical and the Special Edition don't really support that idea. He just says that he only learned a little and long ago. Could it be that even when he was human, he had trouble with reading comprehension, as is sometimes the case for ASD children?

*At the beginning, he's messy and disheveled, and needs to re-learn how to groom himself and dress like a gentleman. Of course some people on the autism spectrum are meticulously neat and orderly, but others are just the opposite and struggle with it.

*Also at the beginning, he doesn't seem to fully comprehend other people's emotions or the way he comes across to them. For example, when he "invites" Belle to dinner, he thinks his obviously reluctant, forced politeness counts as "asking nicely" and that Belle is being unreasonable when she still refuses. Of course this could just be because he's a spoiled prince who's never had his orders refused or needed to ask nicely for anything before. But it could also imply further social difficulty.

*In general, he seems less mature than an average 21-year-old. He always has a bit of a childlike quality, at first in a "spoiled brat" way, but later in a sweet, gentle way.

*Countless fans have noted the plot parallels between Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The idea that Mr. Darcy is on the autism spectrum is a very popular and understandable headcanon. Isn't it natural then that the same headcanon should apply to the Beast?

Now I know this is a debatable headcanon. I know the writers didn't set out to code the Beast as autistic. All the traits I've described above can be explained either by (a) his being spoiled, (b) his depression, or (c) his mind turning animalistic because of the spell. And I'm not entirely sure I like this headcanon myself. If we do view him as autistic-coded, then about 80% of his character arc revolves around learning to "mask" to please Belle, with the undertone of "This is the only way you can ever be loved." But he's still relatable to someone on the spectrum like me. Maybe this explains why I always defend him from those critics who view him as just an abuser. If that were the truth about him, then what would that say about those of us in the real world who see ourselves in him?

in my version instead the prince is not cursed by a powerful being for his own awful actions he literally made a deal with the devil and he’s paying the price for it,a curse long a century (there is no time limit on) What’s more depressing is that the devil “pulled out a prank” by making him immortal (this also count the servants,no one gets old) so matter how hard he tries to “escape himself” he’ll always wake up so he basically all alone in his time stopped “reign” where not even death can free him,you can imagine how many times he attempted to it

Oh, this sounds interesting to me. It leaves the question what´s Belle´s peronality supposed to do in this kind of fic? Will her love save him, or will she have to pay the price to get him out of that dreadful contract? Very intriguing.

Anyway, what came to my mind firsthand was the following movies/stories, like

Groundhog day (never dying, but reliving the same day over and over until he learns to truly love and receive love)

Lord of the rings (where the elve Arwen chooses human life so she can die with her beloved - because if she stayed an elve, she´d watch Aragorn die and the years and centuries will pass as she lived on)....

So, yes, please, go ahead and write that fic!

What if chapeau taught Adam to play violin?

OMG I actually had a headcanon that Adam was just bad at playing the violin, explored a little in this fic. This'll be really cute.

Shifting

"Non--non, your highness, please, you hold it with your chin."

"I can't." Adam struggles to keep his frustration at bay. "I can hold it with my hands just fine."

"Oui, that is how we teach children," the tutor sighs. "They have no strength to hold something with anything but their hands. You, however, are no mere child--you have the strength to prove it."

But what difference does it make? he thinks mutinously. I held it that way during my last performance, and no one could tell the difference! It hurts when I try anyway.

Out loud, he only asks "But why is that important? I still don't understand."

The tutor's nearing his limit, Adam can tell. But he only shakes his head, the curls on his wig sagging over his forehead. "If you were to shift positions, or something shakes your concentration--"

Now Adam wants to throw the thing at the tutor's face. What sort of game is he playing, throwing out vague answers like that? Shifting positions sounds like something an idiot would do--who'd adjust his stance in the middle of a performance? Not Adam, he wouldn't. Unless something did shake his concentration, he supposes, but that wouldn't be his fault, it would be some ignoramus in the audience--

"Deep breaths, my dear, deep breaths."

His mother's voice drifts across Adam's mind like smoke, extinguishing his initial vitriol. It was true that he got riled up over certain things, especially things he didn't understand. They scared him.

But he never wanted to learn the violin! He can play fortepiano just fine, but his father insisted that an extra instrument would show how intelligent Adam was. He sent Cogsworth off to discuss it with his mother, and she eventually agreed. It still isn't fair; he is much more comfortable with the fortepiano. It's so much easier to see where the notes will spring. He overheard other nobles talking at a ball once about a marvel in Italy: a man who can place his hands on a harpsichord and play something off the top of his head. That's something Adam can understand--no way is he skilled enough, but it's easier to draw music from both hands in unison. And here, Adam wants his hands to do the same thing still. But that isn't how it works.

Deep breaths.

Just this lesson. He mustn't make a fuss, he must get through this lesson. His mother is waiting in the next room, and his father would hear of it sooner rather than later if he complained.

Not that Adam minds, but his father is not one for testing. Though it has been a while, Adam could recall his father's deep voice around him, something so strict that it leeched color from the sun.

Deep breaths.

It works, and Adam nods solemnly at his tutor, who looks less than the sum of his parts at this point. But he gestures again, and the prince raises his violin to his shoulder, resting his chin against the edge.

I won't hold it there, he rebels silently. Shifting my feet. Of all the stupid excuses.

The time slows to a crawl, with the tutor correcting Adam every other row: your fingers are too sticky, your vibrato isn't clean enough, the chin, my prince, hold it fast--

Then the clock strikes four, Adam's shoulders sag in relief, and the tutor is barely able to assign work to practice before he heads for the door, footsteps echoing across the stone.

No faith in me, Adam sulks. That much is obvious.

The door swings closed, but not before Adam hears the tutor's sharp "Non merci!" and a clatter of china.

What was that?

The young prince approaches the door to see one of the footmen at the door, clad in black, holding a tea set that is definitely the source of the clatter. Some sugar had spilled, but everything else looked intact. The tutor bumped into him, it seemed, and did not apologize.

Rude, his mother would say. She'd seek to make things right.

"I would like some tea," Adam says shortly. "Thank you for offering."

The footman nods and hands Adam a cup on a saucer, which he takes with a nod in return.

"I'm sorry he did that. I'm kind of hopeless at this." The words slip out before he can reel them in. His father never liked him admitting weakness, even in front of their staff.

But the footman only offers him what sugar is left in the bowl, and Adam accepts a heaping spoonful.

"Thank you," Adam murmurs, and the footman merely smiles, bows, and turns to leave.

But it's in those few seconds that the prince realizes he's seen this particular servant before. Black waistcoat, usually seen attending to Cogsworth, or sending messages to Mrs. Potts. Helping Lumiere with dinner service if they were short-handed, providing fresh sheets to the maids. Never spoke. Chapeau--that was his name. Adam didn't see him as much as the others--newer, most likely.

He's quick, too; gone in seconds. Adam sips his tea and heads towards the dining room.

A violin wakes Adam that night.

He blinks away the dream of a midnight ball, surprised when the music doesn't fade with the images. Moonlight streams through his open window, and his empty room shines with it, silver and gold designs gleaming white with the moon's eerie, ethereal light.

But the violin doesn't stop. It's a slow, melancholy tune that climbs and descends like a stream over stones. Adam almost wonders if he's woken to glimpse a faerie dance of sorts, so taken is he by the magic of the moonlight. Slowly, he rises from his bed to fetch his robe and slippers.

Chapeau stands, illuminated by a window in the hallway, and Adam nearly mistakes him for a ghost; he blends in so with the blues and greys of the night-lit castle.

Under his chin is the source of the music: a rich, brown-colored violin several sizes larger than his own, and a bow that moves along the strings with such care that Adam barely notices when he pulls it up and down.

Adam opens his mouth to say a number of things, from "why are you here" to "you scared me half to death" but whatever it is dies the moment Chapeau meets eyes with him. Instead, the footman dips his head and turns to walk away. Adam follows.

Chapeau leads him through various hallways, portraits shadowed and faceless in the night, and when the castle opens up, the violin fills the space. Several times Adam wants to ask where they're going, but he can't move his mouth; so transfixed is he.

As a prince, he was never instructed to watch after his staff--in fact, it was the other way around--but Adam watches as a moth does to flame. Chapeau's fingers climb up and down the neck of the instrument effortlessly, and there are moments when his hand shakes without troubling the instrument at all.

The violin doesn't shake, but the note does. How is that possible?

Chapeau plays one final note before gently lifting his bow from the string, and though the sound fades away to nothing, Adam can swear he still hears it ringing.

And it's as if a spell has been broken; Adam blinks and takes a few breaths before realizing they've traveled to the music room.

"H...how did you...?" There is nothing to interrupt, but Adam can still only manage a breathy whisper.

Chapeau says nothing, only waits for Adam to finish, letting both hands fall to his sides.

"The way you...the way you climbed up the strings like that," he stutters. "What is that?"

The footman smiles. "Shifting."

Chapeau moves to him, taking his hand and placing it on the violin's neck. He guides the prince's hands forward, and then back, and Adam practices the action a few times before he nods.

Bow in hand, Chapeau plays a quick scale, shifting to complete it on only two strings instead of three. Adam tries to mimic him.

They converse like that for a while, letting the music breathe, until Adam realizes he's gotten the hang of shifting. Then Chapeau adds that shaking into each note--"Vibrato," he defines it--and encourages him to use his forearm, not just his wrist. This clicks immediately, and they can both tell.

They incorporate it into the scales, and when Adam struggles with the bow movements, Chapeau sits him in front of his fortepiano and encourages him to play with his left hand only. Soon after, the prince can mime the bow movements by himself.

Back to the violin, and it works. Adam moves the bow in time with his fingers, following the sheet music, and the piece that the tutor bade he practice starts to sound like something.

Adam's just working around the chords near the end before Chapeau pulls out a pocket-watch to check the time, and from his expression, Adam knows he's been awake too long. Chapeau ushers him to put his violin away, and Adam obliges, but...

"But could you play the piece for me?" he asks. "Just so I know how it's supposed to sound."

Chapeau looks the sheet music over once before adjusting the stand to fit his height.

Though the sheet music says to start loud, Chapeau plays the first few notes in a hushed quiet, building slowly to the appropriate dynamic with light, flighty bow movements.

Adam closes his eyes this time, trying to remember different finger placements for the chords, the one time he'd shift placements, the switch in key. But it's hard, so hard not to drift back to that strange, ethereal world, only accessible though a violin in the small hours after midnight.

He must notice, because the music slows into silence against the written instructions, and he guides Adam back to his bedroom, tucks him in, and disappears. The moon's moved past the windows now, nestling behind wisps of leftover cloud. Nothing else in the sky.

The spell's broken now, Adam thinks. His final conscious thought before dawn.
