Jeremy Fitzgerald Headcanons
more writing warm ups :) plus i just think he's a cutie :D
Was born in Los Angeles, but he moved to Las Vegas when he was 11
He's Cherokee/Irish-American. (Like, enrolled. His mom is from Tahlequah. None of that great grandmother Cherokee princess BS).
He's a Virgo. He's very serious about this.
Cousins with Fritz Smith. Y'know, the real Fritz Smith, who is still quite miffed about having his identity stolen.
Fritz is the primary person taking care of him after the Bite.
His favourite genres are pop and hip hop. He's very serious about the west coast vs east coast stuff in the hip hop community.
Strong Only Child Syndrome
He's an amazing artist! He planned on going to animation school before It Happened.
He still is, but less good at really detailed stuff.
He's terrified of doctors and hospitals.
Before the bite, he was a very type A, organised, fussy and uptight person. This has changed.
Mommy issues AND daddy issues. It's pretty bad.
Cries very easily.
Incredibly forgetful. His short term memory is fried.
He's very impulsive and has an incredibly low attention span.
He can write, but he can't read - even stuff that he's just barely written.
He credits Mike with saving his life, so he likes flirting with him. Literally all of the time.
Irish Catholic religious trauma
He watches a lot of anime. His favourite is Sailor Moon.
His main hobby nowadays is watching TV and messing with makeup.
He swears a lot. Around 70% of his vocabulary is swearing.
He prefers girls' clothing.
LOVES Madonna.
His room is full of Pokemon plushes. Absolutely COVERED with them.
Would've loved Regina George, RIP Jeremy
He's 5'6. This is even worse because he has horrible posture.
He's kind of mean. He just has really poor impulse control and is lowkey angry all of the time.

Walk-in clinic vs. emergency room: What's the difference?
When you're feeling unwell or dealing with an unexpected injury, knowing where to go for medical care can be confusing. Should you visit a walk in clinic Las Vegas offers, or is the emergency room your best option? Understanding the difference between these healthcare services is essential—not just for your health, but also for your time and finances.
In Las Vegas, residents and visitors alike have access to a range of healthcare options, including quick care Las Vegas walk-in clinics and full-service emergency rooms. Each has its purpose and is designed to address different levels of medical needs. Let’s break down what sets them apart, so you can make the right choice when the need arises.
What Is a Walk-In Clinic?
A walk-in clinic, sometimes referred to as "quick care" or "urgent care," is designed for treating non-life-threatening illnesses and minor injuries. You don’t need an appointment—just walk in and get treated on a first-come, first-served basis. These clinics often operate with extended hours, including evenings and weekends, making them a convenient option when your primary doctor is unavailable.
Walk in clinic Las Vegas locations typically treat:
Cold and flu symptoms
Minor cuts, scrapes, and burns
Sprains and minor fractures
Mild asthma attacks
Ear infections
Skin rashes
Urinary tract infections
These clinics are usually staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants, with access to a supervising physician. They often have basic diagnostic tools such as X-rays and blood tests, but their services are limited compared to an emergency room.
What Is an Emergency Room?
Emergency rooms (ERs) are located in hospitals and are equipped to handle severe and life-threatening medical situations. They are open 24/7 and staffed with physicians, specialists, nurses, and advanced medical equipment. If your condition is critical or rapidly worsening, the ER is where you need to be.
Emergency rooms treat:
Chest pain or symptoms of heart attack
Difficulty breathing
Severe head injuries
Uncontrolled bleeding
Stroke symptoms (sudden weakness, confusion, slurred speech)
Major fractures or trauma
Loss of consciousness or seizures
If there’s ever any doubt about the severity of your condition, it’s better to be safe and head to the emergency room.
Cost Differences
One of the biggest differences between a walk in clinic Las Vegas and an emergency room is the cost. ER visits tend to be significantly more expensive. According to national data, the average cost of an ER visit can range from $1,000 to over $3,000, depending on the complexity of the treatment. In contrast, a visit to a quick care Las Vegas clinic might cost as little as $100 to $250, especially for those without insurance.
That cost difference makes walk-in clinics an attractive option for those with non-emergency medical needs, particularly for tourists or uninsured patients.
Wait Time and Convenience
Emergency rooms prioritize patients based on the severity of their conditions, which means someone with a minor issue may wait hours while more critical cases are handled first. On the other hand, quick care Las Vegas clinics typically have much shorter wait times because they treat non-urgent cases and follow a first-come, first-served model.
If you’re dealing with a minor illness and want to be seen quickly without the long wait, a walk-in clinic is likely your best bet.
When to Choose a Walk-In Clinic vs. an Emergency Room
The rule of thumb is simple: if it's not life-threatening and you can manage the symptoms for a short time, go to a walk in clinic Las Vegas residents rely on. If it’s a true emergency, don’t hesitate—go to the ER or call 911.
Here’s a quick breakdown to help guide your decision:
Go to a Walk-In Clinic If:
Your condition is not severe or life-threatening
You need treatment during after-hours or weekends
You want faster service at a lower cost
Your primary doctor is unavailable
Go to the Emergency Room If:
You have severe chest pain or breathing difficulties
You’re experiencing symptoms of a stroke or heart attack
You have sustained major trauma or injury
You’re bleeding heavily or have lost consciousness
Final Thoughts
Navigating the healthcare system doesn't have to be stressful. Whether you're a resident or visitor, knowing when to choose a walk in clinic Las Vegas or a quick care Las Vegas facility versus an emergency room can save you time, money, and potentially your life. Make your choice based on the severity of your condition and remember: when in doubt, always err on the side of caution.

Why you Need Wound Care Center

Wounds that demonstrate delayed healing severely affect patients' health. Medical evaluation is necessary for treating sizable medical wounds, while home remedies would suffice for treating Minor Injuries. You need a doctor's examination for any minor wound that shows signs of deteriorating.
A penetrating skin cut produces profound blood loss together with infectious consequences for the affected area. Patients must obtain physician treatment from a wound care facility when they suffer from deep puncture wounds since such injuries threaten both internal organs and body structures. Wound contamination spreads through the bloodstream to various body areas, which may trigger fatal systemic issues. Patients needing slow-healing wound treatment should visit a doctor's Wound Care Center in Las Vegas because they possess the optimal skills to manage these conditions. This piece will outline the advantages of seeking this type of healing.
What Type of Support does a Wound Care Center offer its Patients?
A wound care expert physician needs to become involved immediately when a wound shows deep dimensions, such as tended features or expansive width, or if it keeps bleeding or creates pus discharges. If your shallow injury fails to heal within the first couple of days following the injury, the proper assessment and treatment can be done at a wound care center near me.
Wound Care Management
Multiple health experts work together to treat persistent wounds and their associated health complications properly. This includes:
Blood flow verification is essential since wounds need oxygen and other vital nutrients to enhance their healing process.
Infections cause significant problems like amputation and slow healing.
Removing bacteria and insufficient tissue through a debridement procedure can enhance the likelihood of good tissue healing.
Proper control over blood glucose levels and nutrition amounts is crucial for wound healing because uncontrolled sugar and missing protein and vitamins delay healing.
Dressing and host factors: Since each wound is unique, using the right dressings speeds healing. Furthermore, each patient has a unique lifestyle and underlying medical concerns that may require attention.
Advanced techniques: After the aforementioned thorough methods have been tried, advanced wound care treatments such as skin replacements or hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be suggested if a wound is still not healing.
Individuals who Gain from Personalized Wound Care
The following underlying disorders increase the likelihood of wounds that may not heal properly:

Diabetes
Diabetes-produced elevated blood sugar causes poor healing because of circulation problems. People with diabetes must pay attention to their feet because their blood circulation issues lead to nerve damage, primarily affecting their Feet and Legs. Medical personnel should treat diabetic patients' foot wounds because neglected infections could force necessary life-saving amputations. Because wounds at a wound care center receive specialist care, the risk of lower extremity amputation is reduced.
Ostomy
Individualized wound care center care will also benefit those who have experienced significant digestive problems that were addressed with an ostomy. An ostomy shifts the way waste leaves the body, and a specialist in wound care can monitor and manage any infections or problems that may arise near the site.
Ulcerations on the Skin
Physicians need to treat bedsores and pressure ulcers continuously. Similarly, a wound care clinic will provide efficient therapy to patients with venous insufficiency-related chronic wounds. The primary objective is to avoid infections consistently. A staph infection (sepsis) is one example of an infection that can enter the bloodstream and have catastrophic health consequences if left untreated.
What to Expect from a Wound Care Center
Your first meeting involves meeting your care team members, who will manage your wound-healing process. The team also includes skilled personnel who concentrate on treating skin conditions. Staff will investigate your medical information, including your personal background and family medical history.
Blood tests with X-rays or ultrasounds may sometimes be required to identify your wound's healing barriers. Your recovery needs more operations to assist the wound during its healing phase. Surgical procedures for enhanced blood circulation may be performed, while debridement procedures remove dead tissue from the surgical site.
Services Provided by Wound Care Facilities
Detailed Evaluation of the Wound
The first step of our approach involves assessing your medical background and current state of health to establish what type of wound you have. During examination, medical staff must measure the wound and verify infection symptoms.
More Advanced Options for Treatment
Wound care facilities utilize cutting-edge therapy systems for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) and perform debridement procedures on patients.
The suction mechanism of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) extracts extra fluid from wounds to improve blood circulation in the arteries.
The healing process requires medical clearance of the dead and contaminated tissue materials.
Bioengineered Skin Products are intended to cover and protect complex wounds and offer support for the growth of new tissue.

Control of Infections
As part of its infection control practices, the West Coast Wound Care facility utilizes advanced dressing solutions and antibiotics to prevent wound infections.
Education for Patients and Self-Care
An essential part of wound care is education. Patients are advised on:
Proper Wound Care: How to cure wounds at home by cleaning and dressing them.
Complication Signs: Identifying signs pointing to an infection or slow healing.
Lifestyle Changes: Advice on diabetes control and nutrition that can promote healing.
The Advantages of Visiting a Wound Care Center for Treatment

Conclusion

What to Expect During Your First Visit to a Primary Care Provider in Las Vegas
One of the milestones in making a better health check is to first visit a primary care provider (PCP). Whether a first-time visitor to Las Vegas or a newcomer to the city, creating a primary healthcare plan is beneficial because it has a preferred health care provider ready for a specific need. Here is a walkthrough of what a first appointment to a PCP in Las Vegas entails from checking in to setting and aligning your health goals.
Why is Having a Primary Care Provider Important
A primary care las vegas provider is a healthcare provider whom you usually go to whenever you have a health problem. They can control diseases you might have, screen illnesses you may be at risk for developing, and implement general health checks. They also refer you to other specialists in case one is required to help in coming up with a better care plan for your situation. Appointing a PCP means assigning a physician who is familiar with your and your health related goals, needs, and routines – a basis for improved health.
Your First Visit
A lot of preparation goes into creating a positive first impression so that your first appointment is not only productive but also informative. Here are a few things to consider:
Gather Your Medical Records: If you have had previous treatment it would be useful to bring any relevant documents – immunization records, recent investigations, current prescriptions. This is because: This helps your provider understand your health history.
Make a List of Questions: As a checklist for the visit ensuring that all pertinent issues are reviewed, write down or hold in your mind any questions or key points of concern that you’d like to talk about. These could include either avoidance of diseases, early detection, coping with, or knowledge about your illnesses.
Review Your Insurance Coverage: You should also read the insurance policy to determine which of the services will be paid by the insurance and which one you must pay out of your pocket.
Know Your Family Health History: This type of interference may require your family’s medical history, including diseases like diabetes or heart disease, cancer, etc. Such information assists a health care provider to evaluate your risk factors.
Arrival and Check-In
When you get to the Urgent care clinic, what you will start with is the registration process. This may include written forms where you are required to write your details such as name, physical, social security number among others, medical history forms, insurance information among others. Most clinics in Las Vegas have made it easier by offering online forms that you can usually fill and complete before your visit.
This is a good time to show your insurance card, identification and, if necessary, co-payment associated with your insurance portfolio. After check-in, you’ll be ushered to wait for a medical assistant or a nurse to call you in for the physical examination.
Initial Health Assessment
No sooner have you entered the exam room than a nurse or a medical assistant is going to begin with some simple questions about your current state of health. This usually includes:
Recording Vital Signs: They will examine your blood pressure, temperature, pulse and even your rate of breathing as a way of creating a starting point.
Height and Weight Measurement: These measurements are for determining your body mass index or BMI as well as any health risks associated with your weight.
Medical History Review: The nurse or medical assistant who takes your vital signs or updates your health record during registration may discuss with you to tell more about those stated health issues such as allergies, medications, past surgeries or illnesses.
It forms the basis for your health evaluation so that your provider starts to understand your overall health situation.
Doctor’s Appointment
After the basic health screening is conducted, your family doctor will come into the examining room to continue the examination. This is a section of the appointment where you present your health issues, your previous medical records, and yourself.
Review of Health History and Lifestyle: Some of the questions which your provider may ask include the health history of you and your family, your lifestyle and habits. Examples could be dietary habits, physical activity levels, sleep patterns, levels of stress or smoking and alcohol consumption patterns.
Discussing Health Concerns: This could be the time to discuss some particular health issue or any sign that has been bothering you. Your provider will question you in order to get more information about these problems and may perform a simplified physical examination if needed.
Setting Health Goals: Your care team may help you and your primary care provider set up health objectives depending on your overall current state and way of life. These may be health targets for such things as successfully losing weight, increasing exercising, eliminating stress or giving up smoking. These milestones when achieved establish a base with which you and your provider will monitor the course of the disease as it progresses.
Creating a Preventive Care Plan: Per your age, gender, and history of health, your provider is most probably going to select some of the routine screenings and immunization. Such routine check-ups involve blood test, cholesterol test, immunizations for each flu etc all which helps to detect and avoid the worsening of the symptoms.
Diagnostic Testing or Referrals They are as follows:
Depending on the findings your provider may order more tests like the blood and the urine tests, or imaging like the X-ray or ultrasounds as an extra way to check your health status. They assist in diagnosis of various anomalies which would require their attention.
If your provider at a walk-in clinic diagnoses you with a condition that needs special attention, they will recommend a specialist. For instance, if you have symptoms that may include joint pain, they will suggest that you see an orthopedist. One of the essential components of primary care at a walk-in clinic is the referral process, as it ensures the patient receives care tailored to their specific health needs and concerns.
Your Treatment Plan And What Should You Do
Towards the end of the encounter, your provider will briefly reiterate what has been discussed and prescribe or suggest any treatment or modification of your lifestyle or medication use. Here’s what you can expect:
Medication Management: Your provider will tell you how to take any new medicines, the possible side effects of the medicines, and how the medicines might affect other medicines you are taking.
Lifestyle Recommendations: Depending on your health aims and objectives, your doctor may advise you on how to modify your lifestyle; you can for instance; change your diet, or start exercising, or possibly jump-start your stress levels.
Follow-Up Appointments: Your provider may set follow-up visits to observe progress on your treatment or general health objective or to oversee chronic illness.
Conclusion
Your first visit to a primary care provider in Las Vegas is an important step toward proactive health management. With a thorough initial assessment, personalized care plan, and preventive screenings, your provider helps set the foundation for a healthier future. By building a strong relationship with your primary care provider, you’ll have a reliable partner in your healthcare journey, ensuring you stay informed, empowered, and supported every step of the way. An imbalance in the gut microbiota can also cause UTIs and gastrointestinal (GI) issues. Let’s find out how UTIs can make you bloated. A UTI is a bacterial infection that affects any part of the urinary system. This includes the urethra, bladder, ureters (tubes that connect the bladder and kidneys), and kidneys. Infections frequently begin in the urethra and spread to other parts of the urinary tract, mainly if not treated.

Can a UTI Actually Cause Bloating? – Find Out How
Can urinary tract infection cause bloating? Yes, some UTI patients may experience bloating.
UTIs are infections that can occur anywhere in the urinary system, with the bladder and urethra being the most common locations. They are primarily caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract, resulting in inflammation and a variety of symptoms. Equally, it consists of a robust and persistent urge to urinate, a burning sensation while urinating, and cloudy or strong-smelling urine. UTIs can also cause bloating and abdominal discomfort, which is a less common symptom. The relationship between UTIs and bloating is multifaceted. Infection-induced inflammation can cause abdominal swelling, contributing to feelings of fullness or bloating. Furthermore, the body’s response to the infection can involve gastrointestinal symptoms as the immune system prepares to fight the invaders.
Tips To Prevent From UTI
There are a few tips for UTI that are mentioned below:
Drink Cranberry juice
Cranberry juice contains tannins, which prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall. As a result, it is an excellent method for preventing infections from the start. Vitamin C and probiotics will also help you with UTIs, so a fruit and vegetable-rich diet is always beneficial!
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Dehydration worsens UTIs. Although dehydration is not the primary cause of a UTI, it can exacerbate the situation significantly. Drink water daily to keep your body running smoothly, especially if you notice the onset of UTI symptoms.
Postcoital Urination
You may have heard this advice before, but it is incredibly effective. Here’s why it’s vital: Sex is one of the most common causes of UTIs in women. During sex, bacteria from contaminants can enter the body via the urethra. For example, the urethra is very close to the rectum, a home where UTI-causing bacteria such as E.coli are usually found.
Maintain Cleanliness in Your Restroom
For starters, wipe from front to back after using the restroom. This will prevent you from contaminating your private parts with unwanted bacteria.
In a Nutshell
Can a UTI actually cause bloating? Yes, some people with UTIs may experience bloating.
This could be due to inflammation, antibiotic use to treat the infection, or an imbalance in gut microbiota that affects gut and urinary health. UTIs do not cause weight gain but abdominal bloating can give the sensation or appearance of weight gain. An imbalance in the gut microbiota may influence the increase in weight and the development and recurrence of UTIs.

Mental health specialist in Las Vegas
Brain and heart are the two most critical organs in a human body without which a human body cannot perform its basic functions. Almost all the other organs exist in a couplet but both the brain as well as the heart are a single organ and do not have any kind of replacement what so ever. This is why it is always advised to treat brain related problems with extreme care and patients.
Patients with mental problems should keep in touch with their family doctor and they should ensure that they are taking the prescribed medicine punctually. Treating mental illnesses is not an easy task and patients as well as the family members of the patient should consider changing their doctor if they do not see any kind of positive result from the treatment. Very often, patients reach out to unrecognized mental clinic Las Vegas and start their treatment without any recommendations. However, as mentioned before, brain related issues must be handled with extreme care and the patient should always try to contact the most reputed mental clinics in Las Vegas for speedy recovery. Mental problems often disrupt the social stature of an individual and this is why a large number of people refrain from admitting their mental illnesses in public domain. But mental health specialist have pointed out that accepting the problem is the very first stage of recovery and this is why patients should start with accepting the problems with their brain and only after that a mental health specialist would be able to treat the patient with greater accuracy.

Another heavenly ignored type of medical field in the public domain is the importance of primary care. With the coming of online medical stores information about medicines has become available to everyone and this makes people think that they are capable of treating all types of illnesses. However, contacting a primary care doctor in Las Vegas in the times of need is the most sensible decision because primary care doctors are well trained to identify the problems and the medicines which can be used to cure the illness.
There are a large number of life threatening illnesses which have exactly the same symptoms as normal illnesses. For example, symptoms of appendix include severe stomach ache and vomiting. In such a case the appendix needs to be removed from the patients body as soon as possible. But many people try to treat such problem with their own knowledge using painkillers and other medicines. If the appendix is not removed in time it can even cause death and this is why it is crucial to contact the best primary care doctors in Las Vegas for medical assistance in all type of medical conditions. Primary care doctors can also be visited for regular medical check-ups to understand the inner as well as the outer condition of the body.

Hospice Care: Providing Comfort and Support for the End-of-Life Journey
Hospice care is a special type of care focused on enhancing life quality for those confronting serious, life-restricting ailments. This type of care is focused on providing comfort and support to both the patient and their caregivers during this difficult period. The primary objective of hospice care Las Vegas is to ensure that patients experience their remaining days with dignity and comfort, surrounded by loved ones.
When to Seek Hospice Care
When an illness, like advanced cancer, becomes uncontrollable or incurable, hospice care becomes suitable. Typically, it is recommended when life expectancy is around six months or less. Regrettably, research shows that hospice care is often delayed. Misunderstandings cause resistance from individuals, doctors, or family members who fear it means abandoning hope. Yet, it's important to know that hospice care can be stopped if the patient wants to pursue active treatment. Hospice care provides hope for a good life, maximizing each day during the advanced stages of illness.
The Comprehensive Services Provided by Hospice Care
Hospice care encompasses various essential services, although approaches, staffing patterns, and support services may vary among providers. Some of the key components of hospice care Las Vegas include:
Palliative Care and Symptom Control: Palliative care, also known as supportive care, focuses on managing symptoms and improving the overall well-being of the patient. It is not limited to hospice care but is often incorporated when cancer treatment is no longer pursued. Palliative care addresses the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of the patient's experience, providing relief from pain, stress, and other symptoms.
Home Care and Inpatient Hospice Care: While hospice care is primarily delivered in the home setting, there may be instances when hospitalization or inpatient hospice care is necessary. Hospice teams can arrange for inpatient care, remaining actively involved and transitioning the patient back to home care when appropriate.
Spiritual Care: Recognizing the diversity of spiritual needs and religious beliefs, hospice care includes customized spiritual support. This may involve exploring personal perspectives on death, assisting with religious ceremonies or rituals, or facilitating the process of saying goodbye.
Family Meetings: Regularly scheduled meetings provide a platform for family members to receive updates on the patient's condition, discuss concerns, and learn about the dying process. These meetings, often led by hospice nurses or social workers, promote open communication, support, and knowledge sharing.
Coordination of Care: The hospice team takes charge of managing and overseeing every aspect of care, making sure that all parties involved share information smoothly. This includes the facility where patients are treated, their main doctors, local experts, and even those in charge of funerals. The aim is to guarantee that patients and their families always have support and can get help whenever they require it.
Respite Care: Hospice services can give family caregivers a short break by offering respite care, which provides temporary relief. Respite care involves the patient receiving care in a hospice facility or specific beds in nursing homes or hospitals, lasting for a maximum of five days. This arrangement allows family members to relax, plan trips, participate in activities, or just take a restful pause with the reassurance that their loved one is being properly looked after.
Bereavement Care: The time of sadness that follows a loss, called bereavement, can be tough for those left behind. Hospice agency helps during this grieving period by offering visits, calls, and other ways to stay in touch. Trained volunteers, religious leaders, or counselors might be there to help, and support groups may also be an option. Bereavement services usually last for about a year after the patient passes away, and if needed, they can refer you to more support services.
In conclusion
Hospice care provides important help and kind treatment for people and their families in the final stages of serious illnesses. It is very important to depend on trustworthy hospice care Las Vegas to have the best experience. By investigating and choosing a reliable hospice agency, it guarantees that patients and their families get the necessary and rightful support during this difficult period.

I’ve been in Las Vegas, NV for the last two months by the grace of strangers who’ve become family, living out my dream as a part of the movement to elect Bernie Sanders as a president of the people. I knock on doors day in & day out, canvassing voters. It’s my favorite thing in the world because I get the opportunity to connect with every kind of person about what’s important to all of us. It’s both deeply personal & highly universal. It’s social, cultural & political. Perhaps most importantly, it’s human.
The last door I knocked yesterday, on Superbowl Sunday & the eve of the Iowa caucus, further cemented for me that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be:
A lady answered the door in a zebra robe(!). She appeared initially suspicious & annoyed as many do when a random unexpected person is at your door asking for you by name. She confirmed that it was her that I was asking for. She’s a middle-aged black lady. I let her know the Nevada caucus is approaching in 3 weeks and ask her whether she’s planning to vote. She says absolutely yes but she’s new to Nevada & has never caucused. I break down the info & ask her who she plans to support. She’s not sure yet. She’s not so familiar with Bernie’s platform. I ask her what issues are personally important to her. Healthcare. She goes on to reveal that she was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer. She shares how she’s not only dealing with the emotional reality of having a terminal illness, she’s constantly stressed navigating endless bills, paperwork, doctors visits and fighting with both her insurance & social security, both of which are doing their best to leave her with nothing. She’s overwhelmed by the stress of going bankrupt while trying to live what life she has left.
The record breaks.
I don’t just hear her. I feel her feelings with her. We feel them together. Our hearts are open. We look at each other and I let her know, with everything I have in my heart, that *this* is exactly what I’m fighting for. I want her taken care of. I want her to live. I know she wants the same for me. We all just want to live. I talk about my own lack of health insurance this past year & inability to seek care for fear of the cost. I talk about the role of privatization in healthcare - via predatory industries like insurance and pharma - which care more about profits than our lives. She deeply understands this.
Our people are dying right now as a direct result of a fundamentally broken system. “Yes.” Our lives have more dignity than this. “Yes.” We’re running to guarantee universal healthcare as a human right. “Yes.” We’re running to cancel the crisis of medical debt. “Yes.” We’re running to ensure that our people aren’t dying as a result of their economic circumstances in the richest nation in the world. “Yes.”
I tell her about Bernie’s town halls which highlight people’s stories. I sense it’ll resonate with her because the stories I’ve seen have moved me to tears by highlighting the humanity buried underneath our healthcare crisis. It’s helping to liberate the shame of blaming ourselves for our personal struggles by recognizing that reflected in our collective struggle is the need for systemic change.
Either way, she’s already all in for Bernie. She’s going to caucus. I thank her for sharing her story with me. She thanks me. We share a hug. As I walk away she tells me that she appreciates me. I hope & trust she understands how much this means to me, and how much she means to me. We were human together for a moment, now family forever.
This is not a rare circumstance. These are the encounters I’m having often multiple times a day.
It’s nothing I’m doing. It’s simply an opportunity to be fully human for a moment. It’s our most precious & powerful gift to this world.
There’s nothing more important than this, dear friends. You are all my family, and I can’t settle for a world that doesn’t honor the sanctity of our life here on this planet. I’ve allowed myself to believe in a better world and a better world has been revealing itself to me.
Person by person. Stranger to family.
Please vote in this primary, and vote with your heart. Vote for a future that’s better than you can believe. Vote with your deepest sense of humanity.
Don’t stop there. Do more than vote.
Become a part of this revolution. Offer your life to this revolution. Let your life be the revolution.
It’s been waiting here for you all along.
I’ll end this with the inspired & timeless words of our late brother Martin Luther King Jr:
“Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go out into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism. With this powerful commitment we shall boldly challenge the status quo and unjust mores and thereby speed the day when every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall be made straight and the rough places plain.
Now let us begin. Now let us rededicate ourselves to the long and bitter—but beautiful—struggle for a new world.”
“Deep in my heart I did believe that we would overcome.”
🖤✊🏼✨
