6, 10, 11, 12, 18, 27 and 34 domestic-ish asks for johnjess because we want them to stop bothering those nice folks
thank you mari i wish i could say no nice folks were bothered in the making of this post but well.
Tumblr media
6. Any tasks that are always left to one person?
not really, actually, save for the things that are strictly individual hobbies (airplane maintenance, woodworking, corpse decoration, etc.) and even those will be observed and heavily commented on by the nonparticipating party, so there’s always some mutual involvement. there are plenty of tasks that tend to fall to one person far more often, but nothing that’s exclusive. but jessie tends to distrust john’s design instincts enough that she’s something of a control freak over any decorating matter once they’ve established a household together and claims exclusive dominion, but in practice she rarely actually shuts him out of decisions. and there are many tasks that almost always fall to john just because the hassle of reminding jessie is usually not worth the effort of doing it himself, the small things that pile up like taking dishes to the sink, putting laundry in the hamper, etc.
10. Who drives? Cooks? Does the handiwork? Cleans? Pays the bills? Handles the public?
drives: a fairly even split, decent amount of trade off for drives of any significant length.
cooks: also evenly divided but in stages, john tends to do recipe planning, grocery shopping, preparation, and beginning cooking stages, and jessie comes in to salvage and do the heavy lifting cooking wise. john has more initiative, jessie has more practical skill.
handiwork: jessie tends to do it more often, save anything on john’s airplane and (in any universe without the collapse where such things would still exist in regularity) any appliances she deems “pretentious” and “rich people bullshit.” (look, it’s not that she can’t fix it or it’s too complicated to fix, she can do it, she just refuses on principle. really.) but also he’s not allowed to call a handyman to fix it because that would hurt her pride, she’s the dad in home depot who thinks the world is going to implode if he asks anybody for help. usual outcome is john just buying a new one of whatever is broken, which also hurts jessie’s pride and is one of the few offenses that can actually result in her calling joseph to tattle and invoking a lecture about waste and consumerism.
bills: something of a non issue, either paid separately due to jessie’s insistence on maintaining the illusion of separate lives in no reaping universes or non-existent due to societal collapse. john arrested au (the one where she’s not a true crime novelist) i guess jessie manages the collective finances during the approximately eight months john is in actual prison instead of on house arrest, but mostly with what’s left of his money.
public: handled with mixed results by john. (with the exception, i suppose, of the no collapse au — the one where she is a true crime novelist. then it’s both their purviews.)
11. Do they celebrate holidays? Anniversaries?
they do, although they certainly pick and choose favorites among them. but jessie’s demand everyone respect the world’s most special birthday boy has in fact been noted. anniversaries are harder to track (what to celebrate? first coerced dinner date for fuel supplies? first time rawing in an alley?) and jessie is a bit prickly about the matter anyways, so harder to get off the ground, but perhaps a smaller celebration someday.
12. Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon?
yes, eventually, in their main timeline, a fairly private affair. i don’t want to give away too much slash there are things i haven’t decided for sure yet, but proposal and wedding occur at a familiar wildfire locations, long after story events (and not included in story proper). mary may’s obviously invited.
18. What are their dates like? How long do/did they date? Do they ever feel the need to take a break from each other?
miserable for everyone but them, and also often for them. especially in the early stages dates tend to be, well, not really “dates” so much as elaborate excuses to be in each other’s presence so they can argue, have sex, or just generally pay obsessive attention to each other. and the transition to proper dates is also originally less planned outings (or them being in an official “oh we’re dating” stage at all, for that matter) and more either john tagging along on one of jessie’s excursions (and to be fair, after she announces her plans knowing damn well he will throw a fit or otherwise find a way to follow) or john goading jessie into participating in activities he enjoys. when they do start going on proper dates, they tend to stick with the same theme of just roping each other into their individual hobbies, but they come closer to finding middle ground and compromise in their activities — more things like taking the boat out along the river or flying john’s plane out somewhere remote for the weekend for a backpacking trip jessie planned out. (i cannot stress the amount of negotiation this takes, particularly getting jessie in a plane.)
27. Do they have kids? Grow old together? Split up?
they do have kiddos, despite being against the idea initially they agree to watch two recently orphaned kids for what is supposed to be a temporary period but get too attached to let them go and adopt them. a bit down the line, they conceive two more. they do stick it out as a couple/family for their lifetimes in spite of themselves, which much to everyone’s disappointment are decently long. and while they have what could loosely be called “on again, off again” it’s frankly closer to “what the fuck were you talking about, we were never really together in the first place, obviously” and once they’ve reached a point they’re both actually on the same page at the same time that they are, in fact, in a committed relationship, they’re fairly joined at the hip without any splits. (i mean, they’re like that anyways but they’ll have their little temper tantrum storm offs.)
34. Do they have any pets?
nope, none that i’ve given them so far, save the taxidermy. although i wouldn’t discount one of the future brats bringing home one eventually.

Life is Beautiful - I
Summary: You are a glass half full person, your life motto is "Life is too short to... Insert something and anything here". During your whole life you wanted something more, and even not knowing what it is, you put yourself to find out and get it, experiencing everything  brilliant that the world offers - within the measure of what is safe, of course. The curious thing is that your way of living ended up rousing  the interest of two vampires. One who sees beauty in everything and  loves to exist, currently working with suicide prevention; and another one who no longer sees grace in things, in that boring immortality that never ends, and only complains about the Netflix catalog all the time.
Pairing: Jimin x reader / Taehyung x reader.
Genre: fluff, angst, future smut (very soft, ok?)...
Words:  7509.
Rating: +18
Warnings: As much as my writing is soft and light, and as these are not the main topic of the story, treated in a non-descriptive way, there are sensitive themes from the beginning of the first chapter to the end of the fic that can trigger sensitive people, like depression, suicide, addictions in general - Jimin literally works at a suicide prevention center here. SO PLEASE! Read responsibly, my intention when dealing with topics like this is always 1) dealing with them in myself, as a way of putting out part of my own healing process 2) generating identification in other people, so they can go through the difficult time a little less alone. THIS IS A STORY THAT SEES THE WORLD WITH POSITIVITY.
Chapter II Chapter III .
Tumblr media
After some centuries of not living, all vampires go through a kind of midlife crisis in which everything loses its grace and eternity becomes endless boredom. Nothing new happens, humans are born, sometimes they are relevant to world history, they become vampire food or they die dull. Vampires do not need to sleep or use the bathroom, nor to feed more than once a month, so the days are long, and often lonely, which leads many of them to stand still without moving, looking at nothing until their thirst quits, forcing them to go after a pulsating neck. Many go through this phase as serial killers, with killing as their only source of pleasure, others prefer to hibernate in some dark place or tomb, because false death is more interesting than false life. Some never get past the phase.
Jimin is not like that. With almost a thousand years of existence he is totally in love with life. Every day when the sun rises and the sunlight forces him to stay indoors so as not to burst into flames, he spends his hours with a smile on his face, engaging in small banal hobbies, such as gardening or online courses at distance - after almost a decade of doing this, Jimin already has fifty-two certificates in different areas, and he is pretty pride of it. When night comes and he can go out and see the world it’s even more interesting, because humans ’nightlife isn’t as hectic as daytime, so those who live in those dark hours are different. There are those who do wrong things and commit crimes, those who have double lives or who keep secrets, there are people working to protect and save, like doctors and police, there are night guards and twenty-four hours convenience store attendants, groups of friends who spend the night partying until dawn, and those who feel lonely in their empty apartments unable to sleep... And this is the part that he likes the most: people.
He likes to meet random people in the empty metro, buy a drink for a girl who doesn't take her eyes off him and then dance with her, strike up a conversation with a homeless man under a marquee because he knows the guy must be lonely. Watching and learning about other lives keeps him alive, more than the blood he needs to drink.
He likes to get temporary jobs to have some human experience. He has worked in pizzerias, both in the kitchen - he was not very good, so he was put in the dishwasher - both in deliveries, and at a gas station, as a hotel receptionist... But now it looks like he found a job he wants to stay in, so much that it has been a year and he has not yet resigned. Perhaps Jimin has found his calling.
"It's okay... You are not alone, I'm here and I'll stay until you feel good again." He said with his sweet, angelical voice. "Can you get away from the sharp objects? Please?"
The voice on the other end of the line sounded like just a choked whisper, before the answer came, fast, heavy breathing filled the air.
"No... I can't..." The female sobbed.
"Can you tell me why?" Jimin's voice was calm. "I... my legs are numb... I can't... stand up." Her breathing was erratic and desperate.
"Are you hurt? Do you need an ambulance to be sent to you?" He used his most reassuring voice possible.
"No!" She started to cry even harder. "I don't want no one... to see me... like this." Jimin bite the inside of his cheek, thinking, maybe she just wasn't able to get up  because of the anxiety attack, but she also didn't say she wasn't hurt.
Regardless of the case, he needed to make the girl trust him in order to help her.
"What is your name?" He smiled, hopping she would listen to it in his voice. "... Ana" She whispered. "Nice to meet you, Ana. Do you remember my name? I told you at the beginning of the call."
One moment of silence.
"Jimin." She said with little certainty.
"Exactly, good job. Hi, Ana." "Hi, Jimin." Despite the crying voice, she was no longer sobbing.
"Ana, can you recall the last thing you did that made you feel safe? Secure?" A sigh reached Jimin's ears. As he waited for an answer his hands moved over a sheet of paper, he was drawing a beautiful face of a girl with crayons, without paying much attention, but getting a beautiful result.
"No." She said at last.
"I know you can, Ana. No need to rush. Breath." She thought some more, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly. Almost a full minute passed, the two of them silent on the call. Jimin did not press for an answer.
"I was watching Friends... with my cat." "Your cat?" Jimin smiled more spontaneously now, noticing in her voice an oscillation of affection when saying the word cat. "Talk more about your cat."
"His name is Sushi, he's fat, full of himself, and loving. He likes children, food and sleeping. I recently bought him a cute collar, it looks like a pink bow tie." She almost laughed.
"Wow...He is a lucky cat." Suddenly she started to cry again, sobbing so hard that Jimin hardly understood what she was saying.
"He ran away and hasn't come back yet... He's never been away from home  so long... He's all I have, there's no one else... I don't want to live... alone." "Is it just you and Sushi?" Jimin spoke more forcefully for her to hear over the sobs.
"Yes." She choked. "I can't get up... It hurts so much. I'm so-sorry..."
"Ana, do you need an ambulance to be sent to you?" He tried again. Silence.
"Yes." "So I will stay with you until they come to help you. You are not alone."
Jimin was a vampire in love with live, eager to live each day as if it were the most precious gift, so working in the Center of Valuing Life and Preventing Suicide was perfect. He considers himself an expert in convincing anyone that life is beautiful when he has the opportunity to say everything he thinks about. And not letting people feel alone is one of his favorite hobbies.
After all, eternity can be quite lonely, he knows how it is.
________________________________________________________________
That call is over. Jimin was searching for missing cat posts on social media. In the silent office room it was just him and three other people working, each at their separated personal table. Perhaps due to the nature of the work, or due to the late hours of the night, nobody spoke loudly or made a lot of noise when doing things, even when talking to each other, everything is always very restrained, calm.
Jimin's eyes followed the clock hands on the wall above the door. It was almost one in the morning, actually, to be exact, twelve minutes to go, so in two minutes, you would punctually enter that door with your heavy backpack full of books, of someone who just left college on the other side of the city, and after stopping at a twenty-four hours fast food to get a well-deserved burger spent an hour on a subway trip. He could already hear your footsteps down the hall, the characteristic sound of the rubber on the soles of your boots and your bunch of keys stuck in the handle of your backpack tinkling. He heard you putting your stuff in your closet and hanging your coat on the rack in the next room, and a smile formed on Jimin's face. When the hand on the clock struck ten to one and you opened the door trying not to make any noise so as not to disturb anyone's call, Jimin pretended not to notice you entering, not taking his eyes off the computer screen full of images of cute cats. You straightened up and held firmly the pair of coffee cups in your hands till the knots turned white, looking straight at him - in fact, from the moment you walked through the door you were already expecting to see Jimin sitting at his table, as always, and since then you haven't looked away. Walking in light steps - that he could hear by the way - to him who had his back to you, you tried to control the butterflies in your stomach, happy he wasn't in a call right now.
"Jimin?" You called softly, close to his ear, but not that close. Yet. Jimin contained a smile and turned around as if you had taken him by surprise. "Hey, Y/N, didn't see you there". As usual, his direct look made your heart race and you gave a nervous laugh before getting along with his flirty tone. "I bought you coffee." You handed him one of the cups. "To take the night shift a little better."
"Thanks, sweetheart."
You are the other reason Jimin didn't quit this job yet. A few weeks ago, when he was working long enough to decide to leave and go for the next adventure, you started working at the night shift, and right away you caught Jimin's attention, even though at first you didn't talk with him that much - in fact you only talked to the women on the team, and avoided the men. More than once he found himself paying attention to your emergency calls, how you talk, being positive without being suffocating for those in pain ... how you love life. After a while you started doing the same thing, a little less easily, since you don't have a vampire audition, but it was enough for you to acquire a platonic crush on Jimin, which resulted in you opening up, and you two start talking here and there. Now almost whenever you have time or money left over - college life is poor life - you bring him coffee. Jimin doesn't actually drink coffee at all, and he doesn't feel sleepy either, but he thinks it's cute that you worry for him. You see each other three to four times a week, depending on the schedule of work, and he is always eager to see you. Flirting is exciting, and he hasn't done that in a while... Like two centuries, and how it was done back there was quite different. Other times indeed.
"Did you lose your cat?" You asked, confused.
"Oh, no, I didn't." He closed the page with the photo of a white and gray cat wearing a pink bow tie.. "One friend of mine lost her cat, Sushi." "Poor thing. I hope she finds Sushi soon..." You slightly pouted.
"Me too. I'll help her." Jimin said, and the butterflies in your stomach thought it was beautiful.
Something on his desk caught your attention, a colorful draw of said cat made with crayon. Before Jimin could stop you - he was distracted by hearing your heart beat faster because of him - you picked up the stack of papers to get a closer look.
"And you drew him! How beautiful... I didn't know you were so talented." "Thank you. My friend who taught me, he is much better than me..." Jimin simply answered.
You moved on to the next sheet, where another sketch of the cat in different colors made your eyes shine. "So he must be awesome. Look at this!" Jimin was happy to be praised by you, the pink of your cheeks when speaking was a beautiful sign for him, but then he remembered what was the next drawing in your hands, and before you could see it, he cleared his throat and took them back, keeping them in the drawer. It was a drawing of a girl's pretty face. Your face. "They are not quite ready yet..." He pretended modesty.
"Oh, sorry. If you need help, just tell me. I can hang up posters or something. About finding the lost cat, I mean." You volunteered, and then looked around. "I better get to work before someone scolds me."
You went to your desk, across his, and your eyes met a few more times before as you sat down and turned on your computer. Jimin's phone rang and he forced himself to look away from your face, someone else needed him now. "Good night, my name is Jimin and you called the Life Valuation Center. Can I help?" He spoke, his voice welcome and full of affection. ________________________________________________________________
Jimin's shift ends before yours, just before three in the morning he puts things away and leaves the table ready for the person who will use the next shift, but he won't leave, even if everyone thinks so. Instead he goes to the roof to look at the stars and wait for you to leave - not that you know he is waiting for you. He was listening to a random playlist on spotify, stretching his body to the beat just because it feels good, thinking about nothing specific, just existing and feeling good about it.
The night breeze brought his scent to him, looking down from the parapet, he could see you leaving the building, with your scarf well wrapped around your neck, covering half of your face to protect you from the cold air. He doesn't understand you... It's beautiful that you want to help people who are going through a difficult time, and you've commented before that the night shift matches your other schedules, and that you like to stay up at night. However, he thinks you should consider it's not worth it. It's so late and empty when you go home, it's dangerous for a human woman, and as much as he knows that you have a pocketknife in your pocket, Jimin thinks it's silly of you. Usually he wouldn't think much about it, but it's you, and he is fond of you, he can't just do nothing about it. So even if you don't know it, he accompanies you home every night to make sure you are safe. He is only satisfied and goes home when he hears you enter your room. Sometimes he stays a little longer, sitting on the emergency stairs outside your building, listening to you walking up and down in your room, doing whatever, instead of going to sleep soon.
That's kind of creepy. He knows. But he is a vampire, he is already creepy in essence. But of course he would never watch you sleep, for exemple, this is a stalker limit that he does not intend to cross.
"Okay." He sighed as he heard you getting into bed. "I have one hour and a half before the sun rises... Let's find that cat." __________________________________________
You were awake for a couple of hours already, currently packing your books at the end of a lecture, really needing sugar to feel prepared before the last class of the day, and excited that instead of going to the study group you are a part of, you will take an experimental dance class and it's your day off, which means that instead of staying up until dawn working, you can stay up until dawn studying, and maybe sleep a little earlier. Life is too short to not take all the free trial classes available just because your schedule is already full and totally demanding. Anyways you are dead tired, wishing your body doesn't need to sleep... Since you started to work on the Life Valuation Center all your sleeping schedule went down the drain. At first your plan was to work the night shift only at the beginning, and then change your hours, but for some reason you always liked to stay up all night, also the movement of calls in this period is bigger and more specific, which helps in your internship report, and of course, in the day shift there is no Jimin... You've settled in, and now after months of this crazy, fickle routine, your body is feeling the side effects.
"Three of this rainbow donuts please." You asked at the college cafe. One because you want, two because one is not enough, three because you are greedy. Life is too short not to overeat your current favorite sugar source. You sigh to yourself, taking a seat along your friends. Your mantra for life is life is too short to...insert anything here, experimenting and doing things that you never imagined before and that your mother probably wouldn't approve a hundred percent is what moves you. Basically nothing scares you, since childhood you were courageous and fearless. You subject yourself to almost anything, within the measures of what is safe, to have good stories to tell. The world is too big to be content with just having good grades to graduate and have a good job. What you want is much more... so much more that you don't even know what... But it’s not just because you don’t know yet that you’ll stand still without going after it to find out.
"Hey, Y/N, what are you gonna do on the weekend?" Your friend, Becca, asked comfortably within her girlfriend's embrace. As usual, whenever you see the two of them together being all lovey dovey, you feel a twinge of pride in your heart, because you were responsible for them to start dating in the first place. Although your romantic life is not very interesting, without serious or successful relationships, you are a great cupid.
"For the very first time in months... I don't know. I didn't plan anything, maybe something will show up, if not I'm just going to sleep. Why?" You smiled your happy smile of eating what you like.
"Pool party. You need to get a tan, you look like a vampire with that pale, tired face of yours."
You laughed because it's true, since you started changing the day for the night, your skin has acquired a not healthy tone that you are not used to. You've been missing the sun a little.
"First of all, I'm too cute to be a vampire. Second, yeah I'll think about it, I have a new bikini I haven't worn yet that makes my breasts look stunning." One of your friends that was sitting by your side put his arm over your shoulder. "I changed my mind, I'm going to this party." He loudly said. The girls in the group didn't laugh at all. "Shut up, Mike." You playfully pushed him. ________________________________________________________________
This was the second night that Jimin was looking for the cat, Sushi. It was not difficult to find out the address of it’s owner, since he had to activate an ambulance for her, and with that he started looking for the animal in her neighborhood. Passing through the empty streets at night after his work shift, he could see the girl's tracks leaving "missing" posters with a picture of a kitten wearing a pink bow tie, on lampposts and bus stops. At first Jimin thought it was going to be easy, with his keen vampire senses, but all he found were stray cats that weren't Sushi. The second night of searching was already ending, the sun was rising, threatening to make him explode into ashes if he didn't come home soon, and no clue as to where to look the next night he had.
Before getting into the car and driving home, Jimin took one last look at the slightly open curtains in the girl's room, Ana, just to make sure she was okay. She had been discharged from the hospital that afternoon and was now sleeping on the couch, probably medicated. Jimin didn't want to leave her alone, but he couldn't just walk into her apartment and offer help, for now all he could do was find a way to find the cat. ________________________________________________________________ Jimin lives in an old pretty house in the wealthiest part of the city, it isn't a mansion, but it is big and expensive enough to impress anyone who sees it, privileges of centuries of saved money. It's a cliché, but vampires dress in designer clothes, ride luxury cars and live in expensive mansions, houses, apartments, and Jimin is no exception.
From one of the main rooms, behind a heavy curtain, hidden in the gloom, was another vampire, watching the street with intent, expressionless eyes. When Jimin's car turned the corner and up the wide street lined with huge trees, the vampire got uneasy, his beautiful restless hands worrying the hem of his sleeves. He was anxious and angry, if his heart was still beating it would be racing. The garage door opened and the car entered, disappearing from view, in the next second the vampire was no longer in the room but in front of the door leading to the garage, waiting in the empty, dark hall. The knob turned the door slightly opened, Jimin with his head down did not seem to notice the presence of the other before being attacked.
"AH!" Jimin screamed as long arms embraced his neck. If it wasn't for the wall behind him he would have fallen, yet he had no escape, with a body much larger than his overpowering him. "Taehyungie!"
"You are late! Is the second day in a row you get home after sunrise! Are you trying to die?" Taehyung said, and didn't let Jimin go just yet. "It's okay. I was careful, I just had to do a few things before I came home. Look, there's not even smoke coming out of me." Jimin ran his hands over Tae's back, making him relax. The other stepped back a little, taking his face in his big hands.
"You could have sent a message. I asked you to let me know if you were going to be late again, Jiminie..." Tae pouted, still distressed. "And why do your clothes smell like garbage? Take it off."
Even feeling deprived of affection, Taehyung walked away looking disgusted, covering his nose with two fingers. Jimin obeyed, taking off his sneakers, jacket and jeans, following Taehyung through the corridor to the laundry room, where he put everything in a basket to wash later, and also exchanged the shirt for a clean one too. "I went into some alleys today, looking for a cat. That's why." Jimin explained, feeling much more comfortable in not smelling bad.
"And where's it? I don't think Tannie will like to share the house with a cat..." "Where is what?" Jimin was confused. Tae crossed his arms.
"The cat?"
"Oh no!" Jimin laughed, reaching for Tae to take him by the shoulders. "I wasn't looking for a cat to bring home, as much as I would love one as a pet... It's the cat of a girl I met, and is very sad to have lost it..."
"I got it..." Taehyung mumbled.
Jimin was just helping someone. Again. And Taehyung couldn't say exactly why it bothers him so much every time, but it does, he feels distressed, almost as if the world around him collapsed, and it makes him think he's being overdramatic. Live an eternity when you can't even put your feelings out in moments of frustration. Damn, it is conflicting... If vampires could cry, he would. But never that he would let Jimin discover that he feels that way.
It was Jimin's turn to take Tae's face in his little hands.
"You are so skinny. When was the last time you fed?" Taehyung didn't answer.
"You don't even remember, right?" Jimin's eyes went worried. "Did you see that I brought some O- packs for you? I left it in the fridge."
"No, I didn't." A shy smile spread across Tae's face. O- is his favorite blood type, but because it is a not so common type, and humans need transplantation, it's not always that Jimin brings it to him, usually opting for his second favorite flavor or other one available.
Jimin has been trying to cheer his friend up with little treats. It has been a difficult phase, in which he thinks Tae is going through the vampiric midlife crisis. He hasn't been out of the house for almost two decades and does nothing without a little external motivation, even the simplest things like eating. So Jimin tries to bring the best blood types to fill the fridge, signed all available streaming platforms, updates Taehyung's video game consoles as soon as a new model comes out, tries to get him interested in new hobbies - which never works but he doesn't give up - and he even adopted a puppy so that Tae would never be alone.
"Come." Jimin pulled him by the hand to their modern practically untouched kitchen, opened the fridge and picked two packs of blood, the dark liquid shining at the cold light. “In my room or yours?"
"Yours."
The two of them got to Jimin's room, followed by the sound of four paws scraping the polished wooden floor, Yeontan chasing them closely. Jimin pulled the covers off the clean bed, on which he rarely lies down, so they could get more comfortable. Tae laid on his back, against the pile of smooth pillows, carefully opening a packet of blood to not spill a single drop, and put a stainless steel straw in the opening. Jimin turned on the TV, put the dog in the bed, and cuddled Tae's side, with his head on his chest.
"What show have you been watching?" Jimin asked.
"None. I've been looking for something interesting in this shit for days and I can't find anything." Tae took a sip of his blood with a pout.
Jimin chuckled. "I'm choosing then."
A moment of silence followed, in which the only sound was of Tae drinking the rest of his first pack, and then opening another one.
"I think I need to shower..." Jimin commented.
Taehyung's arm that was around Jimin tightened. "Not now. Later." Jimin laughed, thinking it was cute. An idea crossed his mind, another small treat.
"Do you want to bath with me instead?" He looked up to Tae.
Tae hold tightened even more.
"Not now. Later. Now we cuddle."
As if agreeing, Yeontan climbed over the two vampires, finding a comfortable place to lie down and join the cuddle pile.
"Ok."
________________________________________________________________
Tonight you didn't have time to talk to Jimin when you arrived at work, he was on a call, and it seemed really serious. You didn't have the money to buy extra coffee even for yourself, so you hadn't an excuse to pass quietly by his desk to leave a post-it written "Hi :)". In those circumstances, you went straight to your desk to work, to do your best to be a good listener.
To your surprise, making your heart melt and your breath hold at the bottom of the throat, you saw at the top of your computer screen a post-it with a "Hi, sweetheart." written on it, and another one with a "Look in the fridge.". After working with him for that time, regularly doing some paperwork like filling out documentation and such things, you could say for sure that this was Jimin's handwriting, besides, only he calls you sweetheart.
You checked the clock on the wall with an eager look and a silly smile. As you always arrive ten minutes early, there was time to go to the break room quickly, and look inside the fridge before starting to work. And so you did. The break room was nothing more than a small table with a few chairs, a small couch, a sink, an old coffee machine, a microwave and the refrigerator, all in a tight space lit by white lights that leave the place a little impersonal. None of your co-workers were there, as usual. You crossed the small room to the fridge and opened it trying not to make a noise, more out of habit than necessity.
The interior was very empty, with some forgotten lunchboxes, but that didn't interest you. Your goal was right in the middle. A big cup of iced coffee, from a franchise that you don't usually buy from because you find it a little too expensive for your student budget, with your name written on a post-it on top of it.
"Y/N, I wanted to be me treating you today. Hope you like it."
That coffee was as cold as Jimin's fingertips when touching yours, but it warmed your heart. Sometimes you question yourself if it's healthy how head over heels you are for this guy, for so little.
Back at your desk, now with your iced coffee, you wrote a post-it and pasted it on the back of your computer screen, where Jimin could see it. "Thanks :)" Then you started to work. Other people needed you now. ________________________________________________________________ On your fifteen minutes break time, you were leaving the restroom, passing a moisturizing hand cream - because you swear that the soap in this place dries out your skin, and god forbid you from harsh hands -, the sound of the break room's door opening made you lift your eyes from the floor. It was Jimin. He don't take breaks, it's not like he needs it, he doesn't get tired, but he didn't get the chance to talk to you today yet, so as soon he saw you stretching in your chair, indicating that you would soon get up to go to the bathroom - yes, he learned your routine and mannerisms - he discreetly left the room to meet you by coincidence in the hall afterwards.
"Hi, Y/N. Did you like the coffee?" He charmly smiled at you, he was eager to ask it to you, to find out if he made the right choice of flavor, or if he made a bad mistake and you hated it - he couldn't help thinking about that possibility. Anyway, he was looking forward to your approval.
The truth is that you were so stunned by his caring that it didn't matter what the flavor was.
"Actually, yes. I love vanilla flavored things. It's basic but it makes me happy." You fixed your hair, pulling it behind your ears. Jimin could tell by your smile and your heated face that you aren't lying.
"Nice. I wanted to make you happy." He approached you, more than is suitable for the work environment, and it made you nervous, and of course he noticed. But it was okay, if someone came close he would hear and walk away before they could see you, too bad he couldn't tell you that.
"Mission completed successfully." You said, without looking away from his eyes - no matter how much part of you shouted at you to do it, your heart felt like it was going to explode. Well, your heart has a limit, so you changed the subject. "Did your friend find her cat?" Sadness took over Jimin's eyes.
"Unfortunately not. I've been looking for him for two days and nothing, I swear I think I've looked in every street, alley and trash can. I don't want to think like that, but I think Sushi is no longer with us." He sighed, clearly frustrated. You had the impulse to rub his forearms to comfort him, it was the very first time you really touched him. "If he is a cat that wasn't accustomed to getting out, and didn't know how to walk on the street, it is possible that something bad happened... But! He's a cat, if he used to go out often, he might have some other house, other owners, and that's why he hasn't come back yet." You optimistically said.
A smile spread in Jimin's face.
"That makes sense! She told me something like 'He's never been away from home for so long', there's hope then. And you also gave me an idea. Thank you, Y/N." He pulled you into a hug, and you thought you could die.
"You welcome." You said against his chest, deciding not to waste the opportunity to return the hug. ________________________________________________________________ The day was perfect for a vampire walk in the daytime. Cloudy and rainy. No deadly sunbeams and an excuse to use an umbrella without calling attention to it. After the tip you gave, Jimin looked in the right place after accompanying you home that night, and in less than an hour he was outside the window of two children's rooms, in a ground floor apartment, looking inside, and sleeping between the feet of one of the children was the cat, he wasn't with his bow tie but there was no mistake, Jimin was sure. Even without being able to enter - vampiric rules, you only can get in somebody's house if invited, or else you explode as if you were under sunlight - Jimin could smell cat all over the house, and the windows all had anti-escape screens, which indicated that it was a family of cat people.
Jimin would need to come back to pick the cat during the day, knock on the front door and politely ask. That's why heavy weather is perfect. With a dark couture coat, covering all from his neck to the back of his hands, to his knees, a design hat and sunglasses, and last but nos least, a big umbrella, he approached the lower middle class apartment complex. Without hesitation he raised his hand and knocked. Some seconds passed by, sound of kids running inside and a voice of a famale scolding them muffled by the closed door, and then a little girl, maybe six-year-old, appeared in Jimin's field of vision, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him. He was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen after all.
"Hello." Jimin smiled. "Are your parents home?"
She smiled at him, but shook her head negatively.
"Jo, who is it?" An older girl opened the door wider and faced Jimin with a frown that fell apart when she saw his smile. Great, a teenager, he thought. "What do you want?"
"Sorry to bother, I really wanted to talk to an adult, but..." Jimin lifted his phone, the screen showing Sushi's missed post. "I saw my friend's cat on your window."
The older girl narrowed her eyes as she looked at the photo, but before she could answer, the little girl she called Jo before ran away.
"No!" She screamed, disappearing inside the apartment, and then slamming a door somewhere.
"Sorry for that, please wait a minute." The teenager closed the door on his face, and he could hear her shouting and scolding the girl little inside. He was starting to lose his patience. Jimin doesn't like to be ignored at all. Should he knock again and use his mind control powers to get the cat? He was pondering the idea when the door opened again, the two girls were still loudly arguing inside, and this time it was a small boy who must be the middle sibling in front of him.
"Hi, grandma said to tell you to come in." He mumbled.
"So you are letting me get in your house?" Jimin asked with a satisfied grin.
"Yeah... follow me." The boy was avoiding eye contact, being shy. Jimin thought he was adorable.
Jimin followed the boy to a tiny living room, where an old woman was sitting in front of the TV. The girls were now silent, but clearly wanting to argue some more, and the small one was with Sushi in her arms. Jimin sighed, he likes children, a lot, even though he doesn't live with many, but he likes them even more when they're not having a tantrum.
"Hello. Please, take a seat." The old lady pointed to the old couch. The vampire obliged, and almost immediately a fat orange cat jumped into his lap. In this small room alone he could see three more of them. "So, why do you want to steal one of my babies?" Steal? Jimin was slightly offended, he already explained himself, but the chaotic situation created a misunderstanding. "I'm not here to steal nothing, ma'am." He showed his cellphone again. "One of your cats is Sushi, my friend's cat."
"That's not his name!" The little girl shouted tapping a foot on the floor in anger. Jimin just raised his eyebrows at her, making her swallow hard. But he is in control of the situation, so Jimin smiled to remain pleasant.
"Of course it is. Just watch, little one." He reached out to call the cat. "Come here, Sushi." Even though the cat didn't know Jimin to trust him - and these people don't need to know that - cats are creatures of the night, strongly attached to magic and protection in the dark hours, and in the hierarchy of the night they obeyed vampires. The only things that cats respect more than vampires are witches and their own owners whom they protect. As Jimin expected, Sushi jumped off the girl's tight hold and went over to him.
"Good boy. Ana is missing you like hell." Jimin scratched behind his ears. Before someone else could say anything, he proceeded. "When he got lost he was using a pink bow tie." The old lady was still with Jimin cellphone in her hand, and he could see she was convinced he know the cat, but wasn't intending on letting him leave with him yet.
"I'm seeing it in the post, but there was no tie when we got him." She replied. "You just didn't see it, ma'am." Jimin was tired of this conversation, it was being a lot less nice than he imagined on his way there. When he looked to the little girl to talk to her, his eyes were intense and powerful, and his voice was full of authority. "Go get the tie where you hid it, little one."
Mesmerized by Jimin's power, the girl didn't even blink or say anything as she obeyed, turned around and ran to one of the rooms. Jimin doesn't use hypnosis very often but he has fun every time. She got back with it and handed it to him.
"Thanks." He removed the effect and the little girl blinked a few times before understanding what happened.
The old lady was clearly angry with the girl, but it wasn't Jimin's business. "Well I think that's all. We are going now." Jimin got up from the couch.
"Wait!" The teenager snapped. "Jo lied about the bow to keep the cat, and that's bad, but she already loves him! You can't just take him away!"
Jimin was almost on the door.
"Of course I can. Besides, it's not because what she did is bad, young lady. It's because my friend loves him, actually this cat is Ana's family. No one should live alone, right?"
"Right!" The old lady got up too. "I'll get you to the door, tell our friend we are sorry."
"I will. Thank you." ________________________________________________________________
"You found the cat!" Tae sniffed the back of Jimin's neck. "Where is it?"
Jimin was putting the clothes he was using to wash, to remove the smell of cat and the places he passed by. And to get comfortable, as is his habit when he gets home, he just stayed in his underwear and t-shirt.
"I already gave him back to his owner." In the next second Jimin was dropping himself on the leather couch.
"And how was it? Did she thank you with tears in her eyes?" Tae leaned over the back of the sofa with his chin in his hands.
Jimin chuckled, Taehyung's thirst for drama is funny, and he's always been like that. And at least that doesn't seem to have changed...
"Well... She cried a lot when she found him in the window. She looked really happy!" Jimin sang. He was really happy too. He helped someone to find their smile again, even if it is a little bit, it made him really proud of himself, a warm feeling in his chest telling him it was the right thing to do, and that he should do it again if he gets the opportunity. Taehyung's expression changed, suddenly he was disinterested.
"You didn't even talk to her? Just left the cat there for her to find?"
"Well, yeah." Jimin threw his hair back. "I couldn't risk she recognizing my voice and thinking I was stalking her. Scaring her was not the goal, Tae, quite the contrary..."
Taehyung stared at him in silence for what felt a whole minute - maybe it really was, vampires perceive time differently. "You are not a secret superhero, Jimin. You are a vampire." Said that he got back to his room.
Jimin doesn't understand. These outbursts and mood swings leave him confused. And it's not like he hasn't already tried to talk. This... This he doesn't recognize in Taehyung. It hurt his feelings and at same time he feels it is partially his faut. "I can be both if I want to!" He exclaimed.
No answer. To find somebody who would be happy for him and understand the euphoria he felt for saving a little bit that girl he went through his contact list. A lot of vampire names - a lot is maybe an exaggeration, since he doesn't have many friends at all - who wouldn't be rude, but wouldn't understand, and also some former human colleagues from past jobs with whom he hasn't spoken in a long time and maybe should erase the number... And you. Of course you are the obvious choice. You had sympathy for the case from the beginning, even offered to help. And if it weren't for you he wouldn't have succeeded...
Jimin: hey sweetheart Jimin: I found sushi! Jimin: thanks to you btw He sent the messages, hoping it wouldn't be strange. It wasn't the first time you two texted before, but it was just an exchange of memes and silly flirt... without compromise talk. And what he wanted this time was different. You took too long to answer, and he wondered if you were in class and if he was bothering you. He wanted everything but to mess it up with you right now. Maybe he should've checked your class schedule for the week to make sure he texted you when he was sure you were free. But he was so eager to talk to someone... with you. He gave up waiting and went after doing something productive. Crochet dolls. He was doing a mini Taehyung, with red eyes and little cute fangs - an apology for later, neither of them like fighting with each other, even if you can't call that earlier thing a fight- when his cell phone started to crazily vibrate and beep.
You: OMG! You: thts amazing! You: sorry i didn't aswr before You: I was taking a nap hehe You: anyways You: i'm so happy u found him You: [image.jpg] You: ur friend must be even happier :) You: what do u mean thanx to me? You: sorry i spammed u :( Jimin can't handle you. You are too cute. You literally sent him a photo of you with an enormous smile, cheering, to show him your reaction. And you were with your hair all messed and the puffy face of someone who just woke up. Precious. Jimin: no problem, sweetheart Jimin: you said to look in other owners' houses. basically. I found him with a old cat lady with three grandchildren   Jimin: you are looking cute btw You: OwO You: i'm looking like shit Jimin You: BUT thats awesome You: if it was me id be crying til my eyes fall You weren't even there with him, in person, and you were putting a smile on his face. How dare you say you look like shit when you have those perfect cute cheeks? So alive...
Jimin: EXACTLY. that's why I wanted to find him so much. Jimin: and because you helped me, I want to reward you Jimin: i know you don't work today. me neither. do you want to go out for coffee in a nice place? You took too long to answer again, and that's because your heart is exploding and knees trembling while you stare at your cell phone screen, standing midway in your kitchen. You: u dont need to. i did nothing. This time Jimin took too long to answer. He was making a decision. To be more straightforward. More honest. Until now he was dictating a slow pace for your flirting, because for him romance is like that. But what if he tries to speed things up a bit? Or if he lets you command? How would things be?
Jimin: Y/N, respect my excuse to ask you out.
He knew what your answer would be. Even so, he felt anxious, hearing a non-existent heartbeat in his ear, while the three dots indicated that you were typing.
You: ok. what time do you come to pick me?

Pride and Joy (Natasha x f!reader)
Tumblr media
Author’s note: Pride is first and foremost a celebration we are privileged to have because of the bravery and sacrifices of so many. It was black trans women that lead the Stonewall Riots back in 1969 and yet black trans women remain some of the most vulnerable in our community. We need to step up. I’ve linked some petitions and places where you can donate at the end of this post so please, please, please, don’t ignore them.
Plot: Two gay girls head to Pride and you end up gaining some attention. Also this one is super cheesy but I’ve just got to accept that cheesy is my go-to style ugh. I also used she/her/hers pronouns for this one but if you’d like for me to do gender-neutral or use any other sort of pronouns just let me know and I’d be glad to do so :)
The cafe door swung open again and two new voices came under her radar.
“I’m telling you, every year this is THE spot to pick up cute femme girls.”
“I’m sorry, but did you miss the group of straight white frat boys obnoxiously ingesting natty light across the street?! They’re completely killing the vibe. Honestly, it should be a crime for the straights to show up here.”
“No, that’s the point,” the first person began to explain before lowering their voice to only a few notches above a whisper. “Brad and Chad over there hit on the stray femme girls with the whole ‘Oh, you just haven’t been with the right guy yet’ spiel and then try to convince them that they can change their mind. That’s when we step in, put them in their place, bruise their masculinity a bit, and ba-da-bing ba-da-boom, you’re the hero and you get to sweep her off her feet.”
“Jen, you’re a genius.”
“I know that’s what I’ve been telling you! Now buy me some iced coffee cause I’m broke.”
It was an solid plan that the pair of friends obviously didn’t want anyone else to overhear. Fortunately for them, Natasha couldn’t care less. As she continued to sit there sipping on her tea, no one would suspect that she was a former assassin casually eavesdropping into every individual conversation going on. It was technically her day off, but hey, she had time to kill while she was waiting and not much to entertain herself with. So Natasha silently applauded the two and continued on with her crossword puzzle.
The parade wasn’t normally her scene, but the redheaded avenger knew she just couldn’t say no to her girlfriend who was ecstatic about her first Pride.
“Nat, pleeeeeeeassee???” You had begged her all the way up till the night before to go with you. “I was kidding with the matching shirts. You don’t have to wear it, just please come.”
“Fine,” she gave in with a playful roll of her eyes. “But just so you know, it’s going to be crowded, loud, and you’re going to get pretty sweaty. I know you want to wear those rainbow slip-ons Bucky got you for Christmas but please don’t. They offer zero support for your arches.”
Natasha then continued to lecture you on safety 101. Don’t put your phone in your back pocket, blah blah, don’t wear a backpack, blah blah blah. It was a lot to follow just to make sure your paranoid girlfriend didn’t have to worry about you, but you knew it was all out of love. Unfortunately, the one thing you’d forgotten about before leaving the house was going to the bathroom, which is why the two of you had made a pitstop at a small corner cafe.
“The girl who just came out of the bathroom,” the voice that belonged to Jen almost caused Natasha to jolt. “See what I mean?”
“Yeah, she’s cute,” the other one woefully confirmed that they were, indeed, talking about her girlfriend.
You were dressed down in a white “Love is Love” t-shirt that sported two rainbow stick-women holding hands under a rainbow. It was supposed to go with Natasha’s matching black one but she was very against supporting capitalist corporations that sought to make money off of Pride Month merchandise. The rest of your outfit’s ensemble consisted of your favorite pair of shorts and some comfy white sneakers but the real show-stopper was your hair. It had taken hours of braiding to weave your hair so intricately into the flower crown that had taken even longer to craft. You were excited to show off your DIY project you’d had pinned on Pinterest for the last few years even if Nat hadn’t understood the hype.
“Sweetheart, you’re putting hours of work into this thing. I know you like doing it but we can just buy you one and save you the trouble.”
“That’s not the point, Nat,” you sighed never looking up from the hot glue gun you were trying to wield. “I get that I might not be super gifted when it comes to creative things like this but I’ll just feel proud of myself knowing I did it when it’s all put together.”
And right now, Natasha was really wishing she had pushed back harder and gone with the store-bought crown because you were standing there looking like a woodland fairy princess with your bubblegum lipgloss and GODDAMNIT why did her girlfriend have to be so freakin adorable all the time!??
You were still searching the crowd as Natasha’s blood began to boil. Jealousy urged her to march straight up to you and begin making out, claiming you as hers in front of everybody. Then the two of you would storm out of there, confront the gross heteros that would undoubtedly hit on Y/N, she’d beat them up and it’d be a solid victory for the badass super spy. A possible bonus could be that you get too frazzled and end up going home early.
But then she hesitated thinking that maybe you wouldn’t appreciate that. “No,” she thought to herself and calculated a better plan. “That’s possessive, gross, and directly from the straight male playbook. I love Y/N. I respect her. And holy fuck I guess I really am just gonna do this.”
Nat’s eyes ironically enough lit up at that same moment when you finally spotted her and waved eagerly with a giant smile on your face. She wasn’t too ecstatic about what she knew she had to do, but she knew it would make you happy.”
“Hey babe!” you greeted her with your full attention. It was clear from your demeanor that you were oblivious to the fact Jen and quite possibly many others were checking you out. “I’m ready to go now.”
“Actually, I think I might have to go too, but wait here,” Nat casually mentioned before slipping into the bathroom. That caught you off guard and you figured something was going on. Natasha never had to go to the bathroom. I mean, she did have to go, obviously, but it was never random and certainly never in public restrooms. Your anxiety began climbing as you went through all the scenarios in your head. Could it be that something was about to go down? You were sure that she had it handled but it bothered you slightly that she hadn’t told you ahead of time. Unless it was something more serious and urgent? There was that one time you two had gone on a day cruise but ended up getting airlifted out of the ocean when Nat ran into some Serbian gun traders. Your stomach was doing flips out of fear that you all might be in danger as you hesitantly knocked on the door.
“Nat, is everything okay?” you shook. “I don’t want to stress you out if you have some important stuff to do, but I am a little worried that-”
Door swung open and there she stood: Your gorgeous girlfriend, NOT suited up, but in fact wearing the matching black t-shirt.
“Seriously?! You know that you almost gave me a heart attack over here!” you half cry half beam with joy at the sight of your girlfriend laughing hysterically at you.
“I know and I’m sorry babe,” she kissed you sweetly on your forehead. “But these girls over there were checking you out and I had to make a quick change into this.”
“But you actually brought it? Sam didn’t have to do like a fly-by and drop it off to you in super stealth mode?”
Her reaction to your question was too good. “No, of course I brought it. We used the same bathroom right? You know there’s no window in there. How would Sam even be able to-”
You interrupt her with a quick peck on the lips. “Shut up and stop making me feel dumb, I’m just touched that you brought it and have it on now. We’re gonna get such great couple photos!”
“Oh shit, they’re definitely together,” Natasha could overhear Jen’s friend comment from across the cafe.
“I mean that sucks but also they make such a cute couple!” Jen unknowingly complimented the two which made Natasha laugh quietly to herself. She really had no reason to feel threatened or insecure about her relationship. Y/N was an amazing girlfriend and if there were any areas of improvement then they’d probably be on Natasha’s side. The spy then made a mental note to show appreciation for her more before remembering another detail.
“Actually, do you mind going out the back door? There’s just a sleazy group of straight guys out there hitting on women that I don’t care to run into.”
“Ew, let’s definitely do that,” you agreed wholeheartedly. “You know guys like that deserve to be put in their place.”
“Don’t encourage me,” Nat bit her bottom lip, ever-so tempted. “Because I was considering that at first.”
“No,” you grabbed her arm twisting her back around to you. “We should go over there and see if they actually have the nerve. And if they do, you beating them up honestly sounds super hot right now.”
“Wait, I thought you didn’t condone violence,” Nat raised an eyebrow at your proposition.
“Normally I don’t. But you’d look so cute doing it in our matching t-shirts!”
Nat rolled her eyes, smiling, thinking of how proud she was of her girlfriend.

Hello and welcome to the fandom! So since you haven't made a master post I'll keep my request rather tame unless you wanna crank it up a notch. Can you do some angsty headcanons for Riddle and Vil (separately) on how would they react to thinking s/o died/was killed but really they are barely alive (wether there is a happy ending or not is up to you!)
Ash: Why thank you! ^^ I’ll be sure to start drafting up a master post for you and my other darlings~! I actually originally got rather excited by “angst” alone and didn’t read your request properly (I’m sadistic I know-!!) and wrote a scenario so if you would like that too I’d be more than happy to share it; but for now here are your head-canons~
Tumblr media
-Vil Schoenheit
This whole mess merely began as a short excursion in the woods when they came upon a feral beast, a small dragon
-Surprisingly Y/n was the first to sense the beast’s presence and in an effort to protect Vil; leapt forward casting a spell ( a weak one at that as they only had a few seconds to spare!)
-Vil although loyal and determined to save his s/o was simply over-powered as although the dragon was small in size; had better environmental advantages and knowledge in general.
-He reluctantly cases a spell to contact the principal to make sure they’re on guard and aware
-However due to the dangerous and unpredictable nature of the beast is ordered to return at once
-He doesn’t want to, but at the same time seeing Y/n’s still body covered in gashes and blood isn’t particularly holding well with him.
-Swallowing his pride and a many hot tears he runs as fast as he can, his vision blurred.
-He whispers a soft and shaky,”I’m so sorry for everything … Y/n” before leaving the scene.
-The whole way back he’s torturing himself over getting them in such a situation .
-Days pass and the principal and other staff haven’t mentioned Y/n at all; as if they’ve just completely disappeared and it angers him greatly.
-They were special, not just to him as a lover but to everyone else; sure they weren’t naturally as powerful or high on the hierarchy but they were pure of heart and he loves them …
-During this time he is extra bitter and snappy; bursting into frustrated fits and breaking down into tears randomly.
-He has a hard time sleeping from here on, often looking out into the forest in the distance, wondering if his Y/n is truly gone or whether they’re alive but lost.
-He’s extra quite and doesn’t make a habit to take conversations and tends to just hum or nod.
-He day-dreams extra in class and so his grades take a nose-dive down.
-He can be found moping around rather depressed in his room; the sleep deprivation in turn makes him more irritable and dark eye bags start to form which just make him pure nasty as a whole.
-It takes smashing a few mirrors and what not to allow him to stop killing himself over his deteriorating beauty.
-He starts trying to heal but in a rather unhealthy way; he stops investing so much trust and time with his dorm mates Epel and Rook and starts blaming himself for and reliving through the events over and over again.
-Often pushing himself into mental break downs; he has a rather tough time before his self-loathing dies down.
-He tries taking more ‘self-care’ days which he convinces his class/dorm mates are to maintain his beauty; his dorm mates however know him to well and want to help.
-He often can’t go a day without thinking of the incident and has night terrors; Rook tends to be the one who has to wake him up and comfort him once he comes back to his senses.
-All in all it’s a nasty and traumatic experience, from here on he isn’t as bubbly as he was in the past and is rather cautious about who he holds close as he’s convinced himself they too will meet a gruesome fate.
-He tries to avoid romance as a whole, as he believes Y/n’s sacrifice shouldn’t be shunned as in vain (after all he’s only here because of their sacrifice).
-However, once they learn of Y/n’s re-emergence at the college; he’s teleporting around trying to locate them asap.
-He’s angry/relieved/in shock and just pure happy; like truly happy.
-The first thing he does when he sees them is bring them into his embrace, before growling some shaky scolds.
-”H-how dare you worry me like that … you have no idea how worried I was, you were completely reckless and out of line!”
-Before he realizes it he’s a sobbing mess, although he’s not as violently sobbing as he was previously.
-He really feels like slapping his s/o for worrying him so badly but knows he couldn’t push his luck that Y/n was actually still able to breath and walk.
-From then on after they heal he keeps a VERY close eye on Y/n at all times. -He avoids any out of college excursions from then on.
Tumblr media
-Riddle Rosehearts
He’s minding his business one day when Ace runs in informing him of finding Y/n’s still, unbreathing body right in front of their dormitory.
-Needless to say he is beyond furious,he’s almost crying from frustration; he first hand runs to the scene of the crime to make sure this isn’t some cruel prank or misunderstanding (although if it would that’d be the end of that person-!)
-Sure enough it’s them as Riddle finds it even more confronting than he had imagined; he starts barking orders to find the culprit and to try reviving them and to not rest until they find the culprit and to kill on sight.
-He doesn’t leave his s/o’s side whilst they try and revive them; he’s holding onto their cold, pale hands squeezing them wishing to breath life into them or command them to arise and they’d do so; but it of course isn’t that simple.
-When the killer isn’t found; he goes on a rampage ordering the be-heading of random by-standers; many of his closest dorm-mates are keen to stand up to him and his unreasonable decisions despite his horrid mood and temper and ultimately the fate they may face as a result.
-At this point Riddle feels completely alone and defenseless; he doesn’t feel like half the Queen of Hearts he used to be …
-The thought of even abdicating of Queen enters his head, however ultimately it leaves a sour taste in his mouth.
 - Just when they start organizing a funeral; a servant rushing to Riddle’s side informing him that Y/n is indeed alive but barely.
-He’s beyond thrilled and even snaps at the servant for he truly believes he’s just toying with him; however checks anyway and once he sees his s/o’s e/c eyes and their small weak smile in person his heart leaps out of his chest right into his throat.
 - He orders his servant away before he bursts into tears in front of his s/o.
-”You can never leave my side from here on,or I’ll be-head you myself; understood-!?” he sobs with a rather relieved yet pained expression.
-He’s still on guard from then on as the capture was never found/ he’s extra snappy and harsh with punishments from then on to deter all of messing with who’s what’s his.
-Taking a small hum as an adequate response he orders the funeral to be called off and for all servants to tend to Y/n for weeks on end until they’ve been successfully rehabilitated.
-Makes sure there is a huge party to celebrate their life; from then on they had an extra party a month just because they could.

Summary:
Peter and Wade have a tradition they've been following every Valentine's Day and National Half-Priced Candy Day for several years now. They patrol all day and night for Valentine's in their special "June-themed" suits, and on the 15th they spend their day cuddling, eating cheap candy, and napping to make up for the lack of rest from the day before.     This year, though, Peter wants to do something slightly different for NHPC day. Something neither of them will ever forget.

Hey guys! I know I haven’t written anything but D:BH here so far (and I may make a late Valentine’s thing for that fandom too), but it had always been my plan to be a multi-fandom account eventually, and I couldn’t miss out on the “Isn’t it Bromantic” Spideypool Discord server’s Valentine’s Day Challenge!
If Spideypool isn’t your thing, I totally get it and I don’t expect you to read this (and I’m gonna be making a post about what to do if you don’t want to see a ship or fandom you don’t like real soon), but if it is your thing, then Welcome! There isn’t much true fluff in this chapter, and this is kind of all over the place, but there absolutely will be tomorrow in the second part and things will tie together! So please hang in there, and I hope you enjoy this chapter!

    “Spidey-poo! Spider-honey! Web-darling!”
Peter quickly spots Wade’s bright suit and rolls his eyes as he quickly and sternly shushes him, knowing the other super can hear him even if he’s on the rooftop across the street. He swings over and meets Wade on the other side with practiced grace.
“‘Pool, it is five in the morning and normal people are still sleeping! You can’t just yell like that!”
Wade, as expected by this point, completely ignores Peter’s halfhearted chiding and instead sweeps him up into a large bear hug as if they hadn’t just seen each other thirty minutes ago.
“My baby boy’s looking extra bi for this valentine’s day!” He spins them around a couple of times for good measure, then sets him down, keeping his hands on his shoulders. “Did you upgrade the gay suit? Because this looks even better than it did in June!”
A few years back, Wade had jokingly made a comment about wearing pride colors on patrol during the month of June, just to rub it into the “old bigots’ faces” and to get a good laugh. After a day or two of not being able to get that thought out of his head, he figured that if cops can’t be at pride, then at least Spiderman and Deadpool should be able to join in to keep the crime at bay.
As soon as he told Wade this, the ex-merc went all out. He made an entirely new suit for the occasion instead of just taping a flag to his shoulders like Peter was expecting. He argued that “How are the people supposed to know we’re there to help and support if all they see is the usual red with black and red and blue?” and admitted he already had designs for their pride suits ready to go for ages. Wade’s was based off of his pansexuality with all the red parts turned bright pink, the black became bright blue, and all of his weapons (most of them being non-lethal now, thanks to Peter’s insistence) replaced with ones that are bright gold and yellow.
That first year, Peter refused an altered suit, mostly because back then their relationship was newer and he was worried about somehow paying Wade the favor back. Although, he allowed Wade to make it the next year since the design for it was much more subdued than Wade’s by far, and he seemed to have so much fun in his new get up. For Peter’s suit, the blue stayed the same, the red became magenta, and his eye-pieces and web designs became purple all in tribute to his own bisexuality.
The next February after that was when Peter (not Wade, surprisingly enough) came up with the idea to wear these suits on their annual Valentine’s day 20 hour watch, just to show the heteros that they still exist outside of pride month.
That, and “Bi-derman” and “Pan-pool” slash “Dead-pan” are kind of a big hit, so why the hell not?
Peter hasn’t done much altering to his suit beyond repairs, but since last June, he’s completely remade the suit in a tougher material and made the blue and magenta more vibrant and the purple web designs darker to help with the contrast. He also made his eye-pieces white because holy hell was it hard to see through those darker lenses.
“You have a good eye, ‘Pool. Do you like it?” He sticks his arms out and slowly spins as he continues, “I remade it with the extra money from that raise I got a while back.”
Wade quickly grabs Peter and pulls him close again, this time letting his hands roam over the fabric. He can feel the appraise Wade is silently sending him, and the part of him that was worried about making the protective padding on his chest and gut look more muscular rather than lean settles immediately.
“Mmmyes. Me likey this a lot.” He takes a step back and pointedly looks Peter up and down, “Where did you even hide this? I swear I looked in our secret closet and under the bed when I definitely wasn’t snooping for my Christmas presents again.”
Peter rolls his eyes, and he bets that Wade knows it even if his eyes are covered. “If I told you where then I’d have to find a way to erase your memory, because killing you isn’t an option.”
“I dunno, babe, you just might kill me with this damn suit.” He hesitates, then flops his head back with a groan, “Fuck, you’re right, I only get to see it on you for a month and a day a year. How did you even get this level of muscle definition to show through your suit? You look like you do in some of the comics! Clothes in real life don’t work like this!”
“Bullet-resistant padding thanks to Tony and a lot of neat seam-work to make it look like natural muscle.” Peter states matter-of-factly, “Get me the materials and I could do the same for your suits, since I don’t think Tony will offer to give you any.”
“Nah. I don’t need it, and I don’t want to distract from this gorgeous bod’–” he cups Peter’s face “–anytime soon.” Wade gently places his forehead on Peter’s, letting their masked-noses bump. He ruins the moment by murmuring “Is there anything I can do to make you wear this suit in the bedroom?”
“No.” Peter swiftly turns and walks to the edge of the building, waiting for Wade to hop on his back.
“But baby...” the man in question whines, “You wear your other one–”
“Only sometimes and only when you distract me before I can completely change, and I don’t want this one ruined before I can wear it this June.” He ignores Wade’s pout and says, “This fabric is much harder to wash.”
“Ugh, fine. At least I get to watch you flip around some baddies today” he wiggles happily.
“You won’t if you don’t friggin’ hurry up!” he sing-songs, casting a web out in preparation to swing away.
Wade doesn’t respond, but his spidey-senses tingle a warning of something incoming, so he braces himself as his boyfriend leaps onto his back. He loops his legs over Peter’s hips and his arms around his shoulders, then they’re off.
They swing for almost 45 minutes before the duo hear their first cry for help of the day.
Peter hastily swings over to where they heard the woman cry out, and from there it isn’t hard to find her being held hostage by a man in a wolf mask (seriously, why a wolf? Could he only afford a mask from the halloween clearance shelf?) while a well-dressed man shakily pulls out his wallet. Wade drops in, and Peter pretends he didn’t hear the crunch of one of his joints twisting wrong during the landing. By the time Peter drops in to help calm the couple down, Wade has already knocked out and tied up the perpetrator. The couple thanks the vigilantes, then hurry off to the subway, eager to get back to a safer part of the city.
As per usual on their Valentine’s day “event”, they personally drag the mugger to the police station themselves. The police usually have enough on their plate as it is without Spiderman and Deadpool calling them all day to pick someone up if the duo can just do it themselves. Besides, it gives the couple a chance to interact with the public, even if that’s sometimes less-than-pleasing.
Thankfully, they don’t run into too much drama on the way to the station. A young man on the way to work stops them for a picture, admitting that he’s been excited to see the pictures of them in their pride uniforms online later today while a stranger scoffs at them, but that’s hardly drama and is completely expected.
When it starts getting close to seven o’clock in the morning, things start picking up. By the time nine rolls around, they’ve stopped two more minor muggings and talked someone down from trying to commit a crime, which doesn’t successfully happen nearly as often as Peter would like. They buy an ungodly amount of breakfast and hand a chunk of it out to homeless people before they spot someone trying to break into a window on the fourth floor of an apartment building. Peter goes to take care of it while Wade skips away to pass out more food.
“Yo!” Peter calls jovially as he climbs up the wall, “You know, this is extremely dangerous for someone who doesn’t have spider powers, so if you could just–”
His spidey senses suddenly warn him and he jumps to the left, narrowly missing a metal skewer to the shoulder.
“What the hell?! Do you know how dangerous it is to carry those around–” he dodges another one “–normally? And, like, you’re on a rickety– woah!–” He twists his body in order to not get hit “–rickety old fire escape throwing them, so–” He narrowly misses the next one “–Damn it! Would it hurt you to stop for two seconds! Why are you even getting into this specific apartment? There are easier and sneakier ones to get into!”
“My ex wife lives here.” He confesses, throwing another skewer, “She cheated on me with two other people, then divorced me and is trying to take everything! See! I’m not some low-life criminal, so just leave me alone!”
Peter wasn’t actually expecting an answer, but he can try to make-do with this.
“Do you have evidence of her cheating?” he tries, and it must work on some level because the man stops throwing skewers. Just how many did he have, anyway? And why skewers of all things?
The man nods, still hesitating on the next skewer. Damn it, he needs to think of something fast. Well, he doesn’t need to, but he’d rather not send this guy to the cops. He seems like one of the dudes he can calm down.
“Okay, well, do you know if the people she cheated on you with knows she’s cheating on them?”
The guy ponders this for a moment. “No, I don’t think so.”
“So… Why not try getting together and form a mini mob to maybe, I dunno, publicly humiliate her? Instead of breaking into her apartment or hurting her? Or both? Instead of making yourself out as the bad guy?”
“Ooo! Who are we publicly humiliating!” Deadpool calls from the bottom of the fire escape. “I want in on the action! I’m really good at scheming!” he rubs his hands together like some kind of mad scientist.
“Deadpool, now is not the time–”
“So you’d help me get revenge on my cheating ex-wife?”
    “Wait–”
“Oh hell yeah! We’re gonna blow her cover just like I blow–”
“Okay!” Peter shouts over what was undoubtedly about to be Wade bragging about their nighttime activities again. Or maybe he was actually going to mention one of the explosives or grenades he has back at home, who knows?
This scenario is one of the “If you can’t beat them, join them” type, isn’t it? Well, in this case it’s probably closer to “If you can’t stop them, leave and pretend that it isn’t happening for as long as possible, then deny it did for even longer.”
He sighs and mutters “I can not believe I’m about to do this,” before shouting down to Wade, “Since you’re apparently going to actually do this, can there not be any bodily harm or apartment destruction? If not anything else?”
“Aw, but baby boo, arson is the third best crime to commit…” At Peter’s stern look, he relents. “Fine, but if we’re gonna do this right, but I want a little fee for this amazing plan I’m coming up with!”
Peter takes that and the man’s positive response as his cue to leave and pretend his boyfriend isn’t plotting to cause a huge scene with three other people today. It’s much easier to do once he catches some asshole slipping his hand up some girl’s dress while keeping her at gunpoint in some alley.
A web here, a punch there, and another punch, and a kick. Then one last kick and punch just for good measure, along with another web, and the girl is saved and the wrong-doer is unconscious and tied up. In the not sexy way, Deadpool would probably add if he was here.
“Thank you, Spiderman!” he hears the woman sobs before she pounces on him with a hug.
“Woah, hey, you’re safe now.” He awkwardly hugs the stranger back.
“He’s been stalking me for a while and I’ve just been hoping that I could get close to a police station or something but then he disappeared and cut me off and I couldn’t run in these heels and he got me–”
“Hey hey hey, he’s gone now. He’s not gonna hurt anyone anymore, okay?” He pulls away from her, and she gives a shaky nod. “Okay, do you have anyone you can call–”
“Spidey!” he hears the familiar voice sing at the end of the alley, “You left without me!” The footsteps suddenly stop, and Wade’s voice becomes much softer. “Hey, you alright? No one important is hurt?” He glances over to the webbed up man briefly.
The woman shakes her head. Knowing that Wade will probably keep quiet for now, Peter restates his question.
“Do you have anyone you can call for now so you’re not alone?”
The girl nods again, “I was just on my way to meet my partner. They’d come right away.” She huffs a wet laugh, “They actually adore you two. You helped them from a bunch of bullies at pride two years ago.”
“I’m glad we can get to them in time, then.” Peter smiles.
“Hells yea! The world could do with more people who say “fuck you” to gender rolls!” He points to nothing as he continues, “And you read that right, readers! Rolls with two L’s wasn’t a typo, because gender rolls are the nastiest kind of bread. Yuck!”
The woman huffs a laugh then looks up from her ringing phone, tilting her head in sudden confusion, “Readers? Typo?”
“Don’t worry about it,” Peter cuts in, “It’s just a thing he does.” He doesn’t want to take the time to explain Wade’s weird habits of doing something called “breaking the fourth wall”, and how he addresses some things to readers and others to viewers or watchers and other to his two internal “boxes” named “Yellow” and “White”.
Peter hears the person on the other end finally pick up the phone and ask if something’s up. The woman asks them to go to a certain coffee shop to meet her instead of the fountain– wherever that could be in a place like this– to meet her. The other person immediately agrees. Peter is also mildly impressed and rather touched that they also asked for her to stay on the line until they meet instead of just hanging up in a rush like plenty of people seem to do. This person is definitely good for this lady.
They end up walking with the woman to the aforementioned coffee shop, and they chat a little with the person on the line while Peter keeps a very close ear out for anything odd that may need his assistance and pays close attention to his spidey-senses. They get a photo with one group of kids and their parents on the way, then a few more pictures once they meet up with Kasandra’s (they finally got the woman’s name) partner. After that, a group of teens on a triple date quickly came up for pictures and complimented their pride suits.
Peter’s spidey sense starts going off before the teens can say much else. With Deadpool quickly and securely latching onto his back, he climbs up a wall to safely swing away to the danger.
After that, it becomes a pretty normal day, as far as patrolling goes. Despite the fact that most of New York City knows that Spiderman and Deadpool patrol all day and night long on most holidays, the crime rate still rises on them. It makes Peter wonder just how many people they don’t get to whenever they patrol; how many people call out for them specifically when Peter is too far away to hear them or sense them being in danger?
He doesn’t want to know the answer to that, and Wade does his best to help Peter keep his brain from travelling down those dark paths once he figured out it made his depression and anxiety that much worse.
He honestly doesn’t know what he’d do without Wade. They’ve been together for so long that Peter can’t imagine a day where he’d be gone for good. Yeah, he still sometimes spends weeks or, very rarely, months away for some SHIELD job, but he always eventually comes back. He’s almost completely immune to his “Parker Luck” because he’s technically immune to death and injury. So the thought that one day Wade may leave and not come back because something between them just couldn’t be worked through?
    It’s terrifying.
The thing about that last thought, though, is that Peter can’t imagine not being able to work things out with Wade. They always work things out. They’ve been living with each other for years now, so that was something they had to learn how to do a long while ago. Even their various friends agree that, as much as they banter like best friends, they also tend to argue and compromise over small things like an old, married couple. He and Wade never try to argue their observations either. Peter isn’t quite so sure about his other half, but he feels like they’re already a married couple. There’s just no rings or legal papers to make it official yet.
    Yet.
He abruptly pauses at webbing a group of home intruders to the brick wall in front of him to watch Wade with wide eyes as the other chatters away, searching for a cell phone to call the police with so these guys can be picked up.
Wade’s self-esteem would probably never allow him to ask Peter to marry him, even though they’ve been dating for over six years now and living together for about the same length of time. Even if they had been dating for twelve or twenty years, he doubts Wade would be able to do it without backing out or panicking just because he’d probably feel like he was trapping Peter or something bizarre but sadly understandable like that, especially if his boxes are in a shitty mood that hnypothetical day.
He doesn’t doubt for a moment that Wade loves him deeply, even with all the shit they give each other. Hell, especially with all the shit they give each other. It means a hell of a lot when people can make fun of each other and poke at each other and can trust wholeheartedly that the other person knows that it means nothing or comes from a place of pure love, especially for people with backgrounds filled with anxiety like Peter and Wade.
It takes a lot of trust to open oneself up completely to another person, and Wade is the first person like that for Peter ever since he became Spiderman, and Peter hopes he’s close enough to being that person for Wade in return. It takes a lot of love and trust on both of their parts to deal with the somewhat common panic attacks, depression dips, and self-punishments and the less common hallucinations and serious depression dips and still stick around after all is said and done.
They’ve been together through thick and thin, through grave injuries and actual death (on Wade’s account, anyway). They’ve stuck together through sickness and loss, happiness and wealth (there was a few months where Wade was apparently secretly convinced that Peter would leave once he was no longer dirt poor, but that’s been proven wrong a hundred times over by now). They’ve been through everything the traditional wedding vows mention, and the “until death do us part” really only works on Peter, but his powers and trained skills don’t make him an easy target, either.
Peter knows what he wants to do, or rather, he’s just now realized what he’s been wanting for a long while. And now that he knows what’s missing, he’s going to take the first steps to get it. Wade took the first steps in starting their relationship, so it’s only fair that Peter takes the first step or two towards their marriage. Probable marriage, he corrects himself, because if there’s one thing he’s learned from being with Wade all these years, it’s that if something has even one percent chance of happening, it’s plenty of wiggle room for the ex-merc to do it. And Peter’s only 99 percent sure that he’ll say yes.
That just means he needs to make tomorrow the best National Half-Priced Candy Day yet.
“Spidey?” Wade snaps him out of his thoughts, sounding like that wasn’t the first time he called for him.
Peter shakes his head. “Sorry. Just got a bit carried away in my head I guess.”
Wade nods thoughtfully. Peter can practically see the concern dripping off of him. “You need a break? We’ve been at this for–” he checks the stranger’s phone still in his hand, “twelve hours now. Dang.” He pauses. “I know right? But you know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun, and I’m always having fun when our snookums is around!” Wade’s bright grin stretches the bright pink and blue fabric of his mask.
“I usually have fun when you’re around too, ‘Pool.” Peter grins and turns away. He hears a gasp behind him.
“Baaabe!!” he whines, “Only usually? You wound me! I am always fun, especially when–” He abruptly stops. When he doesn’t immediately respond to whatever his boxes are saying, Peter turns around.
Wade is looking at Peter with a strangely somber expression, one that’s obvious through his mask. Then he picks himself up in what Peter can now tell is false cheer.
“You know, Spidey, if you ever get tired of me–”
“Never gonna happen.” Peter walks towards Wade and puts his hands on his undoubtedly surprised face. “You can’t get rid of me that easily, ya doof.” He pecks a kiss to his masked nose then pulls away. “Come on, then! We have more criminals to stop and people to save!”
Peter hesitates just long enough for Wade to jump on his back before taking off. As he swings them through the city, he starts thinking of a plan of action for tomorrow.
If there was any chance that he was wrong about Wade’s self esteem not letting him pop the question first, what the ex-merc just said squashed it, which means Peter will have to be the one to do it. He could go the easy way and go about their usual NHPC day and get down on one knee when they’re back at home (because for as much as Wade puts on an act of shamelessness and seems to constantly overshare, he’s strangely a rather private person), but he doesn’t particularly want to.
A quick look to the left mid-swing and he thinks he has the perfect thing.
His spidey-senses guide him to the right, so he follows. It doesn’t take very long at all for the pair to spot the dark smoke in the sky directly ahead of them. They make it there quickly, taking in the apartment building that is almost overrun by bright flames, the two fire trucks, and the group of firefighters on the street trying their best to evacuate people and put out the worst of the fire. Wade points out that the fire escape must either be engulfed by flames or has broken off or something because he can see a couple through a window on the top floor.
Without stopping to ask what happened or what’s needed of them– mainly because they’d probably say something that basically means “go away and mind your own business”– they enter the building through a window on the top floor (“Wade! You didn’t have to break it!” “The entire building is basically broken! It’s fine!”) since they both believe that, with the get up most of them are wearing, the firefighters are working on evacuating the people in the thick of the flames now and haven’t reached anyone in the higher floors.
Besides, the materials Peter and Wade use to make their respective suits aren’t exactly heat and flame resistant, so this is how they can be helpful.
Inside the building is, predictably, hot and smokey from the flames, and Peter knows it will get louder too as they reach the floors that are closer to the majority of the fire. They split up and work through the top floor first with Peter safely lowering two small families, two couples, and several animals down one or two at a time while Wade searches for any others and gathers them to their chosen window. Once Wade says it’s clear and the civilians are safe, they move downstairs to the next floor and set up the same system.
This floor is proven to be a bit more difficult when Wade comes back with two cats and informs Peter that their owner is a business man that recognized Deadpool as the mercenary he hasn’t been in a long while and accused him of setting the building on fire while simultaneously begging for his life. So Peter has to leave his post at the window and let Wade lower the few remaining people down while he goes and talks to the business man.
Peter easily finds the middle-aged man cowering in the corner and tries to calm him down. Although, it very quickly becomes apparent that he isn’t having any of it because “Anyone who works with Deadpool only thirsts for blood, and you will not have mine that easily!” Peter just huffs and picks him up like a potato sack, ignoring his shouting and struggling while he carries him to the window in his kitchen. Peter casts a new web and makes a quick harness, gets the man– who had stopped struggling real fast once he realized he was no longer inside– and lowers him down faster than he had for the others.
He meets up with Wade in the hallway, who apparently cleared the rest of the floor while Paranoid Man was causing a fuss, and they move down again. They hastily clear out most of the apartments on the third-to-top floor when Peter hears a shout and a gunshot from down the hallway. The only people there to lower the two small dogs he has on the line now are three siblings, the oldest being no older than 16 and the youngest no older than 10. Another gunshot forces Peter’s hand, though.
“Hey! Do you think you could lower these pups down while I go check that out?”
The oldest sibling, a girl with a pixie cut, ripped jeans, and a black sweatshirt, looks out the window and nods. She silently and shakily takes the webbing from him and starts to lower them. Peter doesn’t waste any time in sprinting down the hall to the last apartment where he last saw Wade disappear. Inside he finds a woman in her forties or fifties holding a gun to Wade’s unmoving body. Whether he’s dead or unconscious, he doesn’t know, but that doesn’t matter.
“Hey! What the hell, lady! We’re trying to help!” Peter stomps towards her.
“I’d rather die than be contaminated by freaks like you!”
His spidey-sense suddenly screams at him, and Peter jumps and rolls to the side just in time to dodge the bullet that would have hit his chest.
    “What the fuck?!”
“Get out of my damn apartment!” she screams, pointing the gun at him again.
“Lady, there is literally a fire–”
“And I will not be saved by faggots like you!”
    Oh… How fun… One of those people…
But she’s still a civilian, Peter reminds himself, and he really shouldn’t web her up in the corner of the room just because she’d rather die than accept help from someone who isn’t straight. No matter how much he kind of wants to right now. The fire probably won’t even reach this floor, anyway… But he still can’t.
“This is a matter of life and death for you, what the hell–” He jumps to the left to dodge another bullet.
“And I don’t fucking care!” She screams, “You can all go and burn in hell! But I won’t let myself be swayed by your cursed ways!” she shoots once more, and she should have only one shot left at most, if Peter’s counting right.
She doesn’t get to shoot again, though, because Deadpool comes up behind her and knocks her out.
“Do you know how close I was to killing her? Do you know how easy it’d still be to? God sometimes I wish I was still a mercenary. I mean, look at this! She got blood on my gay suit!” He complains, staring down at the woman disdainfully and poking at the single bullet wound in his chest.
Peter, instead of praising him for not killing her or explaining why they should keep her alive, just nods and jogs out of the apartment. He has other people he needs to save, afterall.
He pretends to not hear Wade’s gasp and sinister chuckle behind him.
He gets the siblings down, and Wade comes back with a dog and two cats in his arms, and the unconscious woman being dragged behind him by Wade’s new, golden whip (“Now I can be just like Wonder woman!” “Like who?” “Wonder Woman! She’s from the DC Universe and she’s my hero! Besides you, of course!” “Whatever you say, Wade…”). If anyone notices that he lowers the animals before he lowers the human, then they can deal with it. And if they notice that she has “BEWARE: HOMOPHOBIC ASSHOLE” written on her forehead in permanent marker, then it’s not his fault that he can’t control his boyfriend.
Looking out of the window this time, they realize that the fire has gone down quite a bit. Wade comes running back down the hallway– when did he even leave?– cheering that the fire escape was just covered in fire, but now it’s safe to walk on. Before Peter has the chance to ask if it was safe for civilians to walk on or just supers, Wade jumps in and clarifies that he pretty much cannon-balled onto it and it didn’t bend, and it was only pretty warm through his ruined suit, rather than very warm.
With that news (and after Peter tested it for himself), they waste no time in telling the other tenants they find to put thick shoes on and go down the fire escape. By the time they finish clearing the few people and animals left in the building, it’s pretty much dark out and some news stations are gathered around outside reporting what happened here for the nightly news.
“Excuse me, miss,” He hears Wade say to his right. He turns and finds him talking to a young police officer. “How did this fire start? And why’d it get so big?”
The young woman scowls a bit and opens her mouth to speak, but an older officer behind Peter interrupts her.
“Someone was trying to make a romantic dinner on the fourth floor and started an oil fire, then tried putting it out with water. It got so big because traffic was horrible today, and we just couldn’t make it here as quickly as we needed.” he smiles ruefully.
Peter turns to properly face the officer, “Do you know if anyone was seriously hurt?”
He shakes his head. “But we know that so far there haven’t been any deaths reported so far. Animal or human.”
Peter nods as Wade speaks. “Thank you, officer! We appreciate the work you do ‘round here, but we should get going!”
Peter takes his cue and starts walking towards the building across the street to climb up and swing off of.
“Hey,” the officer catches Peter and Wade’s attention, “I know a lot of other police officers don’t like you doing their job, but you’re doing some real good work out there. So thanks, Spiderman and Deadpool.”
Peter nods, not really knowing what else to do, while Wade openly gapes through his mask. He pulls the ex-merc towards him, and he immediately clings to Peter’s back. They’re gone pretty quickly after that.
“Babe! Baaabe!!” Wade shouts into his ear mid-swing, “That was amazing! We found someone who doesn’t hate us! And he thanked us!”
“I know!” He cheers back. It’s always nice to get some positive recognition.
Wade squeezes on to him tighter. “God, I’m so fucking glad I stopped murdering people.” He kisses the back of his neck through their suits. “I’m really glad I chose you. So happy... The happiest.” he continues quieter, more genuine.
If Peter didn’t know better, he would’ve thought he wasn’t supposed to hear that last part, that it was just meant for himself and his boxes. But, well, he does know better.
His brain decides to remind him of the ring he still has to buy by the end of tomorrow.
Peter’s spidey-senses start humming at the same time that Wade shouts that he saw a young man and a suspicious older woman in an alley shortcut. They easily stop the woman from assaulting the poor teen before she could try with the element of surprise on their side, then they escort him back to a more populated area where it should be safer. Both Peter’s and Wade’s stomachs growl at the scent of sandwiches, so they go in and order enough for an army before and climbing up to the nearest rooftop to take a very-much-needed food break. They sit down and start digging in.
Peter weighs the options of buying an engagement ring as Spiderman and risking outing his plans to everyone before he gets to properly propose to Wade, or somehow taking time out of their NHPC day plans (do nothing except go out to buy cheap candy together, cuddle, and munch on said candy) to buy a ring without being suspicious to the man whose job has always been finding people who don’t want to be found out.
    “Hey Wade?”
Wade hums around his food and scoots more into Peter’s lap in lieu of a real response.
“I was thinking we could do something slightly different than usual tomorrow?” Peter leans a bit to the side to get a better view of Wade’s reaction. It isn’t a negative one, but it’s also not positive.
“Why? What’s up?” he asks once he swallows his food.
Peter shuffles a bit. “Well, I was thinking, since candy isn’t usually the only thing that’s half-priced tomorrow, we could maybe split up for, let’s say, an hour or two? Just to buy a cute present for each other or something–”
Wade’s excited gasp interrupts Peter. “Like those little stuffed animals that go right into clearance after Valentines? Or those super soft blankets and socks!” Wade squeals and waves his hands, flinging sandwich bits everywhere. “Petey-baby! You are brilliant! Like, I knew that already, but you’re just proving what we all already know! Even the boxes agree! Although, Yellow’s idea of a present is too close to Yandere simulator, but White thinks going down to Coney Island would be cool! But I don’t even think the rides are even open this early in the year. Besides! I just told you about it! So it isn’t a surprise anymore!” He points a finger high in the air and announces loudly, “Disqualified!”
Peter smiles as he absently listens to Wade go on and on about present-buying tomorrow. Now he just needs to find the perfect ring online and pick it up at the store. If he can’t find the perfect one on such short notice, he doubts Wade will mind if he got a unicorn plushie and a very soft blanket instead. The ring and proposal doesn’t have to be rushed, as much as Peter really wants it to be. How could he not, when his fiance would be a sarcastic asshole and secret sweetheart like Wade Winston Wilson?
Now the only important question left is, would it be Peter Wilson, Wade Parker, or Peter and Wade Wilson-Parker, or Parker-Wilson?

Note
because you reblogged it & I'd love for you to talk about it: "13. Favorite albums, songs, movies, and tv shows of 2019" + books, podcasts, etc. also not necessarily 'were published/came out' in 2019 but which /you/ found and fell in love with this year c:
This is basically the year I discovered my love for David Tennant the most adorable Scottish beanpole in existence (almost 10 years after everyone else did, but oh well). So a lot of stuff I consumed in 2019 is related to him. Prepare for the endless praise.
It all started with Good Omens which I am absolutely in love with. After spending years in the tragic canon that is supernatural (Dean/Cas *coughs*) these ineffable dumbasses were such a breath of fresh air. There is so much fluff in this show, even though it is about the fricking Apokalypse. Bless, Neil and Terry honestly. I can’t wait to finally get my DVD for Christmas so I can binge the deleted scenes. I need more Crowley/Aziraphale being soft in my life.
Broadchurch broke my heart and established me as a DT fangirl. The acting in this show is absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed that this series explored how a community and individual people deal with tragedy instead of focusing narrowly on the crime itself. It fascinated me to no end. Also, Hardy yelling ‘MILLAAAAAR’ in his Scottish accent is such a meme and it amuses me to no end.
David Tennant does a podcast was hilarious and I spend many hours on my train rides listening to it. He is friends with most of the people he interviews and it gave such a warm intimate feeling to the show. There were inside jokes and just plain goofing around which is fantastic. Especially in this day and age where we experience so much pressure to be perfect and composed at all times.
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING which is still kind of David Tennant related? A couple of months ago when I started following DT blogs this one gif kept popping up with him covered in white paint. It looked hilarious and so I ended up watching my third Shakespeare play. I came for Catherine and David and stayed for Beatrice and Benedick. I could fill pages, about these two. I don’t know how many times I have watched the 2011 play OR listened to the radio adaptation OR read my favourite scenes....  I haven’t felt this passionate over a piece of literature since I read Pride and Prejudice when I was 11. Since I mention MUCH ADO I absolutely have to give a quick shoutout to @notantherwritingblog, because she is nurturing my addiction to these characters with her brilliant fic ‘Bea and Ben: or, A College of Wit-Crackers’ which has been my favourite fic of the year. Her writing is amazing and she handles sensitive themes with such grace. Please give her a read if you want to read about the most wholesome relationship of all time.
Doctor Who yet again I am ten years late to the party, but that doesn’t mean I am not partying hard. It is lovely to see a show with several recurring female characters for once (*coughs* compared to Supernatural *coughs*). I really want to give the Doctor a hug though. It probably says enough if I mention that I just finished season 2...
After my David rant just a couple of more mentions to not make this post too long:
I have been religiously watching youtube videos by Bernadette Banner, Drawingwiffwaffles and Kasey Golden for a couple of months now and it has inspired me a lot to be creative again.
The book ‘Enchanté’ by Gita Trelease was bewitching. I read it at the beginning of the year and it reminded me how much I actually enjoy reading (if it is not for school). Magic and 18th century France. What do you want more?
Check please! Do I need to say more than gay ice hockey players? The main character mom-ing the whole squad and baking pies? PLEASE READ

Post Endgame Fic Rec!
So at the time I’m making this post, I haven’t seen Endgame yet (but it’s out in certain parts of the world), but I imagine that what everybody will want after watching it is either 1) to pretend it never happened, or 2) some fluff (I tried to keep it to fics posted in the last year since I already did a fluff fic rec after IW). So here goes! Enjoy!
(* besides the ones I’ve read)
Infinity War fix-it
*still here by wearing_tearing (1,8K): Steve wipes the dust off his face.
*To Never Have Loved At All by hitlikehammers (3K): Steve will say they had work to do, and a universe to put to rights. They had people to find and hearts to unbreak. They had a mission. There was no time for any of them to mourn. Steve, as it turns out, says a lot of things that are mostly bullshit.
Beyond the Burn by eyres (7K): Steve saves the universe - but it takes him awhile to be okay again.
This is the Perfect Time to Panic by Brokenpitchpipe, emij1s (8K): Finding the infinity stones and restoring half the universe is the boring part. The fun part comes next.
*watch them rolling back by napricot (17K): Bucky was just here, he was right here. This can’t be all that’s left. Well, it’s not all that’s left, not quite. There, in the pile of ash that used to be Bucky Barnes, already drifting to scatter across the soil of Wakanda, to dissipate in the air, to be nothing but dust on Steve’s hands and in his gasping mouth and in his lungs—left there, in that ash and dirt, are his gun, and his left arm, gleaming dully in the sunshine.
Realignment by amethystkrystal (24K): After assembling their own Infinity Gauntlet, the Avengers defeated Thanos and brought back everyone who disappeared. But their victory came at a great cost: in order to take the Soul Stone, Steve had to sacrifice the Captain America mantle and all the super-soldier strength that came with it. Small and sickly again, Steve’s poor health soon reaches a breaking point and his last option is a difficult surgery only Shuri and her team can perform. But not all hurts can be fixed with medicine, and the real healing begins after the operation -- when Bucky asks Steve to stay in Wakanda with him.
*Endless War by Nonymos (27K): There is always something more to lose. (Which means all is not lost.)
At Times I Almost Dream by LadyC (29K): When Thanos snapped his fingers, he split the universe into two – one where half the population had been erased from existence, another where the other half had. As both sets of Avengers will learn, the divide between the worlds is thinner for those who share a particular type of connection…
*might never be normal again (but who cares) bynapricot (WIP, 3/4, 36K): All things considered, Steve thought he’d handled the whole Thanos killing half the universe thing and the ensuing bitter, desperate quest to defeat him pretty well. Sacrificing his super soldier serum to use one of the Infinity Stones wasn't a problem either, not when it meant getting back the half of the universe they'd lost, and especially not when it meant getting Bucky back. But retirement and finally confessing his feelings for Bucky? Those were proving to be more challenging.
Dismantle The Sun by hitlikehammers (WIP, 19/20, 56K): This is the way the world ends: with a bang, and a whimper, plus a snap. And yet—between realities and quantum vagaries and heartbreak and that foolish not-just-human penchant toward hope—even that wasn't the end of their stories. Not even close.
Fluff
*I [Heart] You by writeonclara (1,1K): “Steve’s been hit with a curse,” Natasha said. She said it calmly, so Bucky didn’t immediately go flying out of the apartment to tear apart the Tower in search of Steve. “Of course he has,” he said. He felt, abruptly, exhausted. “What is it?” “It might be easier just to show you.”
*Boeuf Mystère by galwednesday (1,2K): “Quick question,” Bucky said. Steve looked up, but didn’t stop moving passports and stacks of cash into a nondescript blue duffel, his mind busily ticking through logistics. He’d grab the glock taped behind the hidden drawer in the desk on their way out, and they could buy new clothes once they got across the border into neutral territory, so they didn’t need much else, apart from whatever Bucky wanted to bring. One duffle should be enough. “Yeah, honey?” “What the fuck.”
*Blank and Silent by Kellyscams (1,6K): Without any words on his wrist, Steve Rogers is sure he'll never find his soulmate. But fate might have some different plans for him.
*Check, Mate? by talkplaylove-art (talkplaylove), wearing_tearing (2K): A notification from Check, Mate? blinks back at him. Steve’s heart speeds up when he opens the app and then his face breaks into a blinding grin when sees what’s waiting for him. James likes him back.
*Just About Half-Past Ten by rohkeutta (2K): But as he reaches Madison Avenue, Stark Tower a mere block away, the skies open with a whoosh, and he barely manages to duck under the construction scaffolding perched over the sidewalk. Thunder rumbles overhead, and Bucky frantically checks every compartment of his bag for an umbrella he knows is there. It’s not. He does find some loose glitter, though, and a lipstick he wore for Pride and had thought he’d lost, plus a spare Metro Card he can’t remember buying. He also gets a crystal clear flashback of leaving the umbrella under his desk to dry yesterday morning, and never picking it up again.
*One for Fiction by thepinupchemist (6K): In the heart of a modern library, children's librarian Bucky Barnes meets his match in the form of the new barista: Steve Rogers. He doesn't think there's any way his crush could be requited -- but sometimes librarians don't know everything.
*A Little Sparkle by roe87 (7K): "What about that guy in accounting?" Natasha mused. "Billy, Buddy, or...?" "Bucky," Steve said, knowing who she meant. "Lip piercing, right?" "Yeah! He's cute." "Yeah," Steve agreed hesitantly, then added, "but I'm not ready for that."
*A World That Makes Such Wonderful Things by stevergrsno (noxlunate) (8K): In which Steve is a mermaid, Bucky's a werewolf, and as always, they fall for each other.
*Found: One Bicycle by gracie137 (8,7K): Bucky Barnes posted in Overheard at Middlebury College: Hello fellow students! Basically in my drunken stupor last night I came across a bicycle. Being rather intoxicated and far from home I decided the logical thing to do was ride it back. I can assure you all that both me and the bike survived this adventure and are in perfect condition!! I now however have no use for for said vehicle and have realised that someone is probably pretty upset about having lost it. Anyway, if you can correctly identify the bike’s make and colour, slide into my DMs and I promise to return it to you!! Thanks for the ride xoxo
*Kiss me and take off your clothes by steveandbucky (10K): Steve Rogers is dared to send a dick pic to a blog which critiques dick pics (run by none other than Bucky Barnes). Hilarity ensues.
*before we can breathe easy by belovedmuerto (22K): No one touches Steve. Bucky sets out to do something about that.
*Roll Out the Red Carpet by Lorien, Quarra, talkplaylove-art (talkplaylove) (29K): The premiere for Steve Rogers' newest Captain America movie was just around the corner, and Steve knew it was going to be a hit. The big downside was that he had to have a date. The last several times he'd brought someone to an event like this, things had ranged from unpleasant to disastrous. In a last ditch effort to get out of taking someone that might make his night hell, Steve went on Twitter and invited the Winter Soldier to be his plus one. The Soldier was an international fugitive, and currently wanted for a series of high profile attacks on corrupt businessmen. Since every person the Soldier attacked was involved in some truly vile criminal activity, the public loved him, despite his crimes. Inviting him to the premiere was the perfect cop out. There was no way he was ever going to show. Right?
*The Twilight Bark (And Other Things Bucky Has To Deal With On A Daily Basis) by spacebuck (36K): Steve Rogers: I couldn’t say no to this little guy, so I guess he’s coming home with me! The picture below it is an overexcited looking dog, barely older than six months, shoving its nose through the bars of a shelter gate. The tweet already has twenty thousand retweets, a few thousand more likes, and nearly three thousand comments. Bucky can’t help himself, leads in hand, and he leans a shoulder against the doorjamb and taps the comment field. bbarnes: if you’re ever in need of a walker I’d be happy to take the lil guy on, nyc based and rescues are my thing!

Shattered Reflection
Since the leftover sales for @bnhavillainauzine are on, I can finally post my fic for it here. It was a Villain Bakugou origin story, or more precisely, how imagined it would go down without anyone having to die for it.
Please consider helping bring this project to a satisfying conclusion by snatching our last copies!! Bonus, you’d get to enjoy the badass content from our contributors in all of its glory~ ♥
Genre: Angst/Drama
Pairing: None/Gen
Rating: T
Word Count: 4684
Summary: After a chance meeting with a rising Hero, the ghosts of the past return to remind Katsuki of the dream he left behind.
Explodo never thought he would hit the ground, more so roll on it until he had to stretch a hand to stop. The lower layer of his gloves shredded like paper from the friction, and hot air rushed through the crack in his gas mask. Street lights illuminated the secluded parking lot around him, the sickly orange color bouncing off the cars. Footsteps echoed like sledgehammers in the silence as the Hero materialized from the shadows of the alley. The same alley Explodo shot out from like a bullet when the asshole had punched him out of nowhere.
He got up on one knee, pieces of his mask fluttering like leaves to the ground. "What's your fucking problem?"
The Hero's metallic headpiece glistened as he stopped at a safe distance. "You're under arrest."
"And what are my so-called crimes?"
"Isn't burning someone's small-time business enough?"
"His tempura was horrible. I was doing the world a favor."
"It's not up to you to decide that. Now stop resisting."
"I was peacefully getting away until you attacked me, dipshit." Explodo sneered. "This is me resisting."
He closed the distance between them with a double explosion, aiming for a right hook. The Hero avoided it. Grabbing his arm and the front of his turtleneck, the Hero slammed him over his shoulder on the concrete. Explodo's teeth clattered. He jumped to his feet, delivering an uppercut square on the Hero's jaw. It felt like hitting a wall even if his gloves absorbed part of the impact.
The fight continued with a barrage of fists and explosions. Explodo returned with double ferocity every heavy punch the Hero struck, like they were locked in some sort of odd dance. Explodo would press forward. The Hero would step back. Adrenaline rushed through Explodo’s veins. His heart pounded like a wild horse and sweat gathered underneath his face mask. This was a pointless fight. He knew it. Still, the thrill of it kept him going until a curious question popped up in his mind.
How is this guy still standing? He thought. His burns should be second-degree by now.
In that moment of lost concentration, the Hero found an opening and grabbed the muzzle of Explodo's gas mask. Rough fingers scraped against his cheek and his stomach did an unpleasant somersault. Pressing both palms on the Hero's bare chest, he released the most powerful explosion so far and the shockwave pushed them apart. Explodo managed to stay upright. His fingers were numb, pain running along the length of his forearms.
He stood, breathing hard, but the Hero didn’t reappear. As the smoke cleared and his ears stopped ringing, Explodo followed the cracked path of the concrete to find the Hero spread-eagled against a car. He had dented the vehicle inwards, but he himself appeared unharmed.
Seriously, what is this fucker made off? Explodo thought. He looks too normal to be a Mutant-type.
Something wet stained his cheekbones, and part of his face ached from where the straps of his mask had rubbed against his skin when they snapped. He ran his tongue along the length of his lower lip and felt the sharp tang of blood.
The piercing cry of a police siren shrilled through the night air. This was his cue to get the hell out of there. As he stepped forward, the Hero took a harsh breath.
"Why…" he whispered. "Such a powerful Quirk and you ended up like this?"
Explodo stared wide-eyed at him. "Huh?"
Grabbing the hood of the car like it was made of butter, the Hero heaved himself to his feet again. His eyes were set on the villain like his life depended on it. "Of all things you could do, why did you become a petty arsonist?"
Sparks of irritation ran along Explodo’s spine like firecrackers. "Who are you calling petty, asshole? You don’t know a damn thing about me!”
"But you could’ve become anything you wanted!" The Hero took a step forward, grunting from the effort. His body crackled like he was a walking stone statue and that didn’t seem too far from the truth.
Explodo snorted. "Get off your high horse. Only Heroes get to use their Quirks in public. That's what their licenses are for." He glared at him from under his hood, the words dripping like poison from his mouth. "Everyone else has to lower their heads and pretend they don't have one—like they are Quirkless."
His animosity stunned the Hero, who lowered his head. "But did you try?" he asked. The earlier accusatory tone melted into an almost innocent curiosity as if he wanted—no needed—to understand but couldn’t wrap his head around it.
Explodo would have preferred if the Hero had yelled this question. Then maybe he wouldn’t have remembered his fourteen-year-old self, when he was still named Bakugou Katsuki, brimming with confidence as he shouted from the top of his desk that one day he would surpass All Might and become the number one Hero; a memory Explodo had buried so deep and for so long, it could belong to someone else.
Something moved on his right. Explodo jumped backward as a set of tentacles crashed into the pavement where he’d been standing. They appeared to be the fingers of another Hero entering the scene. He wore a cape with a hood in bright colors and his mask was covering half of his face.
"Are you alright, Red Riot?" he asked with a quick turn of the head to the other Hero.
"I've been through worse."
The easy-going tone in his voice, like this fight had been a walk in the park, irked Explodo but he suppressed his anger. These were unfamiliar waters. He hadn't been against two trained Heroes before and this second guy seemed like he was hiding more tricks up his sleeves. It was time to make his exit.
"As much as I'd love to kick both your asses, my job here is done." He propelled himself into the air, landing with a backflip on a street light. "Three is a crowd anyway."
"Wait!" Red Riot called. "You never answered me."
Explodo glanced over his shoulder. "Being this soft gets you killed in the real world," he said and jumped to avoid another tentacle coming after him. "Better remember that, Hero."
These were his final words as he propelled himself onto another street light, keeping this pace until he left the parking lot and the Heroes behind.
A few days later and Katsuki was staring at the ceiling fan with the intensity of a million suns. Good thing he couldn't set things on fire with his eyes too or the poor plastic thing would have been incinerated into a pile of ashes. He kept replaying the recent disgraceful encounter like a broken record. So far he had gotten by with hit-and-run attacks. In the past, whenever a Hero had intercepted him they hadn't been a serious threat. This had been the first real fight since meeting the Villain Alliance two years before. Katsuki had managed to escape by the skin of his teeth back then too; the same anger rumbling inside his chest as Shigaraki had more or less allowed him to live.
Sparks crackled like fireworks in his palms, but it did little to ease the prickles crawling underneath his skin. Katsuki scratched the flesh between his fingers. Of course, who would have thought such an up-and-coming sidekick like Red Riot would show up in this degraded shit-hole of a district. He was a U.A. graduate who made his debut during an internship by apprehending a crook that had taken a Quirk-boosting drug. Through watching videos and reading articles of his deeds, even Katsuki could admit the guy was promising. That didn't stop him from wishing revenge though. The bruises and his damaged pride hurt like hell.
The fan did another lazy turn and dust glinted in the few light rays the blinds let through. If he paid attention long enough, Katsuki could hear the plumbing rattling through the walls. Whenever water rushed a little stronger than usual, chips of paint would rain from the ceiling and cover everything like sugar powder.
"Kiddo! Come here for a sec," Jin called.
With an annoyed huff, Katsuki hopped over the couch's back and walked to the kitchen. It was a narrow room with a low counter on the left and a kitchen table almost making contact with the right wall, but it was decent compared to the previous dump they’d called home.
He leaned on the doorframe, crossing his arms. "Will you cut that shit out already? I'm of age." His birthday was three months ago and he had been a few centimeters taller for a while, but Jin hadn't stopped dropping some variation of "kid" when he addressed him.
"I will when you start acting like it." Jin pointed at the table. "There's some cash. Take it and go to the convenience store."
"Why?"
"You have the itch-look on your face, and you're supposed to lay low so you can't go around burning things. We are out of milk anyway."
Katsuki's expression changed from mildly annoyed to grumpy, and then to super pissed in the span of the entire sentence. He smacked his hand on the counter. "I haven't burned anything in this fucking house for months!"
Jin stopped peeling the potato and used the handle of the knife to raise his palm from the counter. There was a faint scorched imprint from where his skin had come in contact with the steel.
"For fuck's sake." Katsuki snapped his hand away. "Can't you just clone me or something?"
"Doubling you will only double my problems." He allowed himself a small smile before his expression turned serious again. "No matter how interested I am in seeing you having a showdown with yourself, I don't want to replace furniture so soon. Don't be such a brat and go already. The fresh air may cool your head a little."
"Fine, you prissy old man."
His keys jingled as Katsuki unlocked the door, but he stopped with his hand on the handle. "If your Quirk works with you having a clear image, can't just clone yourself as you were before?" he said, tapping the center of his forehead. "At least that way we'll know who's the real one."
The knife stabbed the doorframe a few centimeters above his shoulder. Jin was panting with a strained expression, sweat already dripping from his chin. He covered his face with his hands.
"Get out."
The convenience store was packed for such a warm afternoon. Old ladies, students, and mothers with their children walked around, not seeming to mind the malfunctioning AC. Their chatter was like radio static to Katsuki, bits and pieces of a peaceful world he wasn't part of anymore. It baffled him how folks could go on with their mundane everyday lives while knowing of the terror lurking out there. Or maybe they didn't know. Not fully at least. After all, not everyone got their life turned upside down by a Villain; one that slid out of an ordinary soda bottle no less.
Katsuki had just begun his last year of middle school back then. After the incident, he couldn't stop wondering that if he had reacted faster, if he hadn't stood frozen like a fucking idiot, he could have prevented it. But while drowning under the sludge he had none of those thoughts. All his energy was focused on clawing his way out of it.
"C'mon! Stop struggling," the Villain said. His slime had covered Katsuki almost entirely by then, like a heavy blanket he couldn't shake off. "It'd be easier for you too."
As if I'd let an asshole like you win! He thought, frustrated. I'm stronger than this! His palms ignited explosions of their own volition, shattering the road around them.
The Villain's whistle rang inside Katsuki's head as if he had done it.  "What a jackpot! Why have you been hiding such a Quirk, huh?"
It had been a ridiculous remark. One Katsuki shouldn't have paid attention to considering who it came from, but it stuck even after All Might had saved both him and Deku. In the following days, it had evolved into the same question buzzing at the back of his mind.
Why hadn’t his strong Quirk helped him in the first place?
His goons provided the answer. They had been avoiding him like the plague after the incident, so one day Katsuki hunted them down at their hidden smoking spot. Long Fingers attempted to greet him casually, but Katsuki grabbed him by the lapel of his school uniform and demanded an explanation for their behavior.
"It's nothing personal," Long Fingers said. "Just uh…"
"It was the first time you went all out like that," Undercut said. "Like we knew your Quirk is top notch, but this…" He fiddled with his unlit cigar. "This was freaky."
Katsuki let Long Fingers go. "And what about that? You dolts think no Hero ever went that far to beat a Villain?"
"If the Villain wasn't there…" Undercut looked up. "I'd say you were enjoying the destruction."
"You think I did it on purpose?" He said as an itch gnawed at the flesh inside his palms. "I'm gonna be a Hero! Collateral damage is in the goddamn job description."
"Then tell me, is beating the bad guys the only reason you wanna be a Hero?"
The irritation spread to the rest of his hands and Katsuki clenched them into fists.  "Cut the crap. Who do you think you are to question me? You lot of ambitionless extras will never understand what it takes to make it into U.A.! If I have to destroy public property to practice, that’s exactly what I’m gonna do!"
"But it'll get on your record," Long Fingers said. "You wouldn't dare."
It had been as if someone flipped a switch inside his head. Katsuki pretended the topic was over in front of them, but he pondered it in the privacy of his room. He had been using his Quirk within regulations his whole life. He needed a clean record to even think of enrolling in the most popular school of the country. After all, there were things that even he wouldn't be able to get away with doing.
Without Katsuki realizing it, the earlier itch had returned. He scratched absentmindedly at the spot below his fingers and followed the calluses all the way to the heel of his hand. His palms had always had a rough texture to them, like a countermeasure against burning his skin with his Quirk. Due to that, irritations were rare. He stared at his hand. Any more scratching and he would bleed. His Quirk ignited, sparks flying along his fingers like mini-firecrackers. For a moment he hadn't noticed something was missing until the heat from his explosions receded.
The itch was back.
Grabbing the nearest hoodie, he left the house. The sun was a single brushstroke of red on the horizon. No one had paid him much attention, and the crowd thinned significantly closer to the beach park until Katsuki stood alone at the entrance.
Behind the protective railing, trash piles spread like hills among the sand. It was common for the locals to dump their garbage there, despite the glaring warning sign. Of course, the chances of bumping into someone were low, given how sneaky people were being about it. Still, Katsuki didn't stop looking behind his back as he navigated through the trash. Several steps later he stumbled into a clearing. Microwaves, television sets, and other electrical appliances were scattered all around him. A large fridge got his attention as the last sun rays were reflected in its mirrored surface. The door of the refrigerator was missing, the ice long since evaporated. With a deep breath, he pressed both hands on the fridge. The cold metal bent under the growing heat and at its peak, he released the explosion.
The fridge split in two, scorched parts and cables spilling to the ground like intestines. Katsuki skidded backward but managed to stay upright. Birds flew off from the ruckus. Worry plagued him for a moment, but soon euphoria replaced the weight in his chest. His smoking hands weren't itching anymore. He closed them into fists, allowing a feral grin to spread across his face.
It was intoxicating; like a forbidden early taste of the freedom awaiting him.
The whole situation turned into a game in his head. Passing under the radar of his parents and crossing paths with unsuspecting pedestrians amused him. No one had considered for a moment that an honor student like him would be breaking the law. Lowering the strength of his explosions had helped avoid arousing suspicion from the locals. Everyone pretended the trash weren’t their problem, but loud noises in the middle of the night would had eventually gathered some complaints. His grades were unaffected too, because he made sure to finish his homework before sneaking out. By the time he decided to go there during the day, Katsuki was sure he had won.
His footsteps were light against the pavement that summer day. It took all his concentration to not propel himself a little faster with the help of his explosions.
I could try that today, he thought with a smile as he neared the beach park.
There was a man standing at the entrance.
As if lightning struck him, Katsuki stopped in his tracks.
Super tall and criminally thin, the man leaned against an old pickup truck. His back was still turned as he observed the piles of trash, so Katsuki fled. After at least a block away, he ducked behind a wall to hide. His heart hammered in his chest like a caged bird. Blood pounded in his temples and he was sweating all over. Reality dawned on him like someone had doused him with cold water.
Game over.
Of course, the man had worn only a regular t-shirt and pants. He couldn’t have been an officer. Rumours spread fast though and Katsuki had been doing this for months. Witnesses were bound to show up, no matter how careful he had been. One-time offenders were forgiven with barely a slap on the wrist but given the level of his offence, this would go on his record for sure. So from that day on, Katsuki stopped going to the beach and used his Quirk only when it was allowed.
He could endure this. The exams were only nine months away.
This was his mantra when pens started melting in his hands, and he left hand imprints on his chair. Everyone was willing to sweep these accidents under the rug with only a minor scolding. Being nervous was to be expected. He aimed for the top after all. But the itch kept him awake even the night before the exam. Katsuki stared at the ceiling, battling the thought of sneaking out for one last time until the sun rose on the horizon.
Endure it…
His mother caught him in the hall with his bag already on his shoulder. She tightened the scarf around his neck, raving about how proud they were. His dad managed to sneak a photo at that moment with a fond smile. Katsuki still remembered vividly their confident faces as they sent him off.
Endure it.
The train ride was a blur of faceless people and bleak scenery. It didn't help him forget the itch crawling inch by inch along his forearm. Katsuki kept his hands strictly in the pockets of his coat all the way to the main entrance of U.A. Passing under the gateways was like a dream come true. Then his gaze landed on the mustard yellow backpack in front of him, and the boy with the mess of green hair wearing it.
Endure it!
Anger flared in his chest like a grenade. That bastard Deku still aimed to take the spotlight from him. What right did that Quirkless nobody have to try and play the hero? The stench of burned fabric reached him, and Katsuki stared at his smoking palms, terrified. He was amongst a mass of examinees and probably members of the staff. He wasn't allowed to make a scene.
In his hurry to leave, Katsuki bumped onto someone. He only registered the other person wearing a black uniform too. With clenched fists, he tried to move past him, but the guy stood in his way again.
"The exams are the other way," he said.
"Dropped my ID," Katsuki mumbled.
"Ouch. I can help you lo-"
"No fucking need. Move."
"O-okay…" The guy flashed him an uneasy shark-toothed smile and stepped aside. "Uh, good luck!" he shouted at Katsuki's disappearing back.
"Whatever."
Reaching the foliage-less trees was a race against his raging emotions. The moment Katsuki passed the brow of the forest, he broke into a sprint. It was after several meters that he stopped and leaned wheezing against a tree trunk. He pulled at the scarf.
This is ridiculous. I have to go back, he thought. I won't lose this chance because of the damn nerd.
But that's not it, isn't it? The voice, that wasn't quite his, whispered in his ears. What if you can't contain yourself during the exam?
Something heavy settled on his shoulders. Phantom tentacles started coiling around his arms as if the Mudman from a year ago was back.
I'm gonna have to use my Quirk to fight anyway.
What if they see me?
His reflection stared back from the fridge he had destroyed in the beach park. It grinned like a wild animal ready for the kill. The imaginary slime covered him whole. He was suffocating again. Katsuki ignited his Quirk. The wind scattered the scorched remains of his scarf away.
No, he couldn't do this. Not in this state. What Hero can't control his Quirk?
Katsuki fled like hell was chasing him, and didn't stop boarding trains until he had left behind all familiar places.
For a society boasting about low crime rates, the outskirts were brimming with people illegally using their Quirks. So Katsuki just followed their example to stay alive in these streets. Falling under the radar took some time to get used to, especially when all sorts of oddballs—Vigilantes, Villain-wannabes, the random police patrol—tried to get ahold of him at any given opportunity. It turned into another game of hide-and-seek, his loathing growing with each encounter. Their Quirks were extensions of their bodies. Why should Katsuki repress his? They’d lived in a superhuman society for decades. Normal and ordinary were supposed to be out of the dictionary.
They weren't, though, because Quirkless people still existed. Those echoes of an era long gone didn't want to feel left out and had to drag everyone else into this farce of appearing as equals. Things had changed, the world had changed, and someone had to show them the truth. So Katsuki did. Maybe Jin was right calling him a kid. His resolution hadn't changed from back then. It wasn't about controlling his Quirk anymore. He only wanted to see the world burn beneath his fingertips.
Sometimes Katsuki wondered if the other kid, the one dreaming of heroics, still existed underneath the mask. He couldn't recognize anymore where Explodo ended and his civilian persona began because his reflection had the same intensity either way.
Intensity he currently directed at the misplaced shelves in front of him. He knew this convenience store like the back of his hand as it was the closest to their apartment. The fruit and vegetable stalls should have been there. Katsuki sighed, frustrated. He had plowed through the shopping list he’d been given with the money easily, but decided to get some watermelon slices too—watermelon was Jin’s go-to desert during summer. Katsuki hadn't tried to be a total dick to the older Villain; he’d only wanted to release some of his annoyance in less destructive ways. But he had pushed the wrong buttons on someone that was more mentally unstable than him. If he didn't want this to end badly, he had better patch things up.
While turning around the corner of the particular corridor though, he crashed into someone. Both their baskets fell to the floor. Katsuki attempted to steady himself on the shelves but his hand missed. The other person grabbed it instead and straightened him. The muscle-toned and caked-with-scars arm belonged to a guy around his height and probably his age, although some remains of his teen softness still clung to his face. His hair, tied into a loose short ponytail, was as red as his eyes when they locked gazes. Of course, Katsuki knew that pulling his hand away as fast as he did was rude, but the goddamn contact made his skin crawl. He didn't fancy people touching him in costume; he sure as hell didn't like it out of it either.
"Watch where you're going, Shitty Hair."
"Hey!" he said with a hidden laugh in his voice. "Have you seen your own hair, Explosion Boy?"
Katsuki froze. "What?"
"I mean the way it sticks out in all directions like that reminds me of a static explosion." He flashed an awkward sharp-toothed smile. "So I went along with the joke."
As the little scar running on his eyelid was revealed, Katsuki realized he had just rubbed shoulders with Red Riot again. If he allowed him to continue this thought it would mean the worst scenario was around the corner. After all, the scratches on Katsuki’s face were still fresh and visible.
An attack was the best defense.
"You look familiar," Katsuki said skeptically, crossing his arms.
Red Riot mirrored him. "I don't think we've met."
Katsuki cocked his head like a curious cat and forced his eyes to widen in fake surprise. "Could it be…? You're Red Riot, the Vigorous Hero, right?"
Total bliss washed over the Hero's features to the point of almost glowing. It only lasted for a brief moment before he tried to suppress it.
"You got me," he said. "And I'm really sorry for the mess." He gestured at the scattered groceries at their feet.
"Nah, I kinda overreacted. It's wasn't that big of a deal."
"Let me help then."
They gathered their stuff in silence with Katsuki stealing glances in Red Riot's direction. He appeared calm, but couldn't shake the feeling of impending doom off his shoulders. Had he dodged this or not?
Everything was back in place before he could come to a satisfying conclusion. But the Hero didn't make a move to leave. Instead, he scratched the back of his neck with a puzzled expression.
"Uh… Would you like me to treat you to some coffee? For the trouble and all?"
"Really it wasn't-"
"I insist."
He had such an honest look on his face, like he had done some great offense to him and wanted to repay it. Katsuki bit the inside of his cheek to keep the feral grin from spreading across his face. This guy was indeed too soft for this job.
"Alright," he said defeated. "I know a place nearby if you want."
"You're a lifesaver, man! This is my first time in this neighborhood."
"And you still offered? Are you an idiot?"
Red Riot actually laughed at that. "You're pretty weird yourself," he said and gestured at him from top to bottom.
"Katsuki."
"Eijirou. Nice to meet you."
"Same."
And he wasn't lying. Opportunities like this were considered miracles. It was like the star guiding the wicked finally smiled at him. If he played his cards right not only revenge, but valuable info too would be within his grasp. It didn’t matter that Red Riot resembled the guy Katsuki bumped into the day of U.A.’s entrance exam. Idiots with that considerate attitude were those aiming to be Heroes the most. The bravery of sticking to their dreams didn’t matter either. It was Villain policy to give them a reality check.
After all, Heroes don’t always win in the end.

Chapter Two: Heart to Heart
“No no no, I’m so late!”
I shot out of my room like a bat out of hell, a jumble of keys in one hand and helmet in the other as I took to the morning bustle of the college sidewalks. Outside the scenery was a mixture of many things; remnants of winter slush that spring was finally beginning squash with a faint warm breeze. Not to mention the familiar scent of Brooklynn streets containing the disappointing waft of piss and alcohol it was so well known for. Or maybe I had just grown used to it in the year I had been here.
I stopped abruptly at a covered up bundle and ripped the cover off hastily to reveal a shiny black Vespa beneath and beamed. Her name was Queen of the Night, Queenie for short, and what she lacked in speed she made up for in aesthetic. She was the last thing my parents had gifted me before I had started college. A way for them to feel at ease about me being on my own, or so they said. I think they just didn’t want me to use door dash on every little thing I needed at all hours of the night. Regardless, she was my pride, my joy, and I was finally able to ride her again after the harsh winter months had kept us separated for so long.
My thoughts wandered as I got my belongings situated to head to work. About Bambi’s words, the news article, but also the strange group text Bambi’s sister had sent out as I had left:
‘There’s a big bad out. Stay safe.’
I wish I could say that wasn’t a normal occurrence for her, but Benni Banks had a knack of sending things just ominous enough to make you extremely suspicious of whatever she was saying. The only thing more suspicious was when she would walk with a startling pace out of our dorm with laptop in arms saying ‘This is fine, this is absolutely fine ’ on repeat. If you knew Benni like we did that usually meant one of her cockamamie hacking attempts had backfired and things were certainly not fine. Despite this, we loved her, even down to the cryptic warnings she sent us while submitting to her insomnia sleeping habits that left us more curious than cautious.
A villain like that could have meant anything. Hell, we had just seen Lizardman take on the town before he stopped on his own accord. A malfunction with the machine he used to keep himself human, or something to that degree. And not a single hero came to help during that situation. I slumped forward at a red light and sighed. Despite New York being a hot zone for superheroes and villains alike, it was apparent that the villains were just becoming too much for them to handle. But that was something I couldn’t begin to think about, because I had arrived to work and there were more pressing matters at hand.
Like how I was about to be reamed for being 20 minutes late.
I stopped in front of an ordinary-looking business building not far off from the campus itself and removed my helmet. My hair fell in loose lazy curls around my face as the braid I had made was all but destroyed. Flecks of blue and black melded over my face as I tried to hastily tie it back into its original style, but failed miserably. Giving up I shoved my hands into my hoodie pockets, listening to the leather of my gloves squeak with discomfort before fishing out a flashy looking access card for the entrance. On one hand, I didn't know why I or anyone else needed one of these. Most of the sections inside of the building were offices doing god knows what. On the other hand, the lower levels were a different story entirely. I waited 3 seconds for the light to flash green before I stepped in, immediately greeted by a security guard I knew simply as Barry who nodded curtly to me as I took to the steps nearby.
“A little late today, Miss Knight,” I heard him chuckle, fading away as I entered the basement. This was where all of the action happened, a steady hum of electronics and murmurs of people lost in conversations of studies they were working on. Some made brief pleasantries with me as I zipped through the small groups of lab coats huddling to discuss, while others seemed to eye me with disapproval.
They didn’t matter though. The only person that mattered currently stood hunched over one of many counters in his lab as I watched from the glass window that separated us. I pressed my face against the glass to try to get his attention but he ignored me, making my nerves rise as I stepped within the sliding doors and opened my mouth to apologize.
“You’re late, Knight,”
I closed my mouth and puffed my cheeks out. He always had a knack of catching me off guard.
His name was Professor H. D. Renato, a man who I suspect would not reveal his initials to anyone until he was on his death bed. Even then that was being generous. He was a man of science and cleanliness, and the two coincided together nicely in his lab that he kept in pristine shape. It was ordinary for the most part. No colorful beakers, no boiling concoctions of evil ooze to take over the world with. Just a man with incredible dreads hunched over his desk studying something intensely.
I don’t know how our strange relationship came to be, especially when our first encounter involved him walking in on me attempting to delete student debts with my powers. I was lucky enough at the time that despite the criminal act I was committing he was intrigued by my mutation and wanted to work with me on the promise that I never try a stunt like that again. I was even luckier that I had somehow gotten a job out of it instead of making a call to my parents from the Deans office explaining how I got kicked out of college for trying to show up Robin Hood.
He now turned as if sensing me studying him and folded his arms, dark eyes studying me back with amusement.
“What’s your excuse this time then?”
“Would you believe traffic?”
“I would not,”
“How about saving kids from a burning building?”
“Try again,”
“Fine,” I rolled my eyes, setting my bag down on one of the empty tables taking up the majority of the room. “I got side-tracked talking to the girls,” I admitted before joining him behind his desk to get a glimpse of what his attention had been so caught up on. “Seems I’m not the only one distracted today though, huh?”
“You know me, I always have to see what fresh hell is destroying Brooklynn,” he muttered before turning the laptop to me. “You’ve seen it already, haven’t you?”
“Oh, no. Benni mentioned it before I got here but...” I whispered as I joined him in looking at the screen. The shots of whoever, or whatever it was were blurry. Though, it wasn’t hard to see the giant black humanoid looking creature completely demolishing a group of police vehicles like they were children's toys before the reporter I had seen so many times appeared on the screen. She had the same tense face on as always. Not that I could blame her, I’d look the same way if I were placed in a somewhat dangerous situation like this. And yet, she spoke in a strangely calm tone to give what little information she had on the matter:
" ...suspect is assumed to be a high-level threat that was one of few said to be lost in the recent events of the Ice Box criminal transfer after destruction hit- "
"Hang on, that was months ago. They still haven't found the convicts that escaped?" I asked in surprise. He shook his head in response.
"Apparently not. The majority were assumed dead at the scene of the crime but…” he motioned to the screen again as we watched another brief blurry clip of the creature climb onto one of the surrounding buildings as heavily armored police got involved.
I whistled in response.
“I really don’t think you should go out on deliveries today, Nina…” he admitted after a short pause as he turned to me, folding his arms like he always did when faced with a tough subject. I could only roll my eyes in response.
“Don’t think I’m capable of holding my own?”
“Really? You’re asking me this in a ‘Hangover Hoodie’?”
“Huh?” I asked with a confused frown but realized all too quickly what he was talking about. In my hurry to leave this morning I had shoved a blind hand into my wardrobe and picked out whatever hoodie I could find. Renato now stared at me with disappointed disapproval and sighed. It was no wonder his peers looked at me how they did now.
“I have always had the utmost faith in you, it’s your health I’m concerned about. You know this,”
“How could I forget when that’s all anyone ever talks about?” I answered shortly, watching his expression quickly fade to guilt. I knew he hadn’t meant anything by it, after all, it wasn’t his fault that my body was the frail shell of what it used to be. Like I said, I tried the vigilante lifestyle once. It hit me harder than what I was ready for and now I paid the price.
The result left me unable to use my powers without intense strain on my body, and a group of family and friends treating me like I was made of glass as a result.
He hovered his hand over my shoulder before reluctantly pulling back. Renato might have been a genius but his social cues were lacking in the compassion department. Or any social department in general for that matter. Instead, he did what he did every time there was an awkward situation and began furiously cleaning his glasses that had been sitting neatly on top of his head.
“I just...you know I worry. And with your parent's trusting me-”
“What they don’t know won’t hurt them. But also, I’m almost 24, dude. Avoir une certaine foi,” I added with an innocent smile. He was not so taken with it
“You know I don’t speak French,”
“Have some faith,”
“That’s easy for you to say, you don’t have to be the one to deliver the news if something happens,” he responded shortly, striking my own guilt in response. Renato, despite his eagerness to take me under his wing, was still a cautious man. So cautious in fact that he had contacted my parents before solidifying his offer to work with me. They weren’t bad people, probably the farthest thing from that, they were just so overprotective. I couldn’t blame them after the chaotic introduction into parenthood I had given them, especially after being the first mutant in our family. There was just a point where it was too much.
There was a heavy silence between us as we both struggled to find something to say before he sighed and directed my gaze to the packages resting beside the counter.
“Alright, I’m trusting you with this, Nina. You’re lucky we have such a backlog to get through otherwise-”
“Otherwise you wouldn’t allow this, yes I know,” I called as I carefully scooped the boxes up and inspected them curiously as if the blank outer packaging would reveal their secrets.
They did not.
“Be careful with those. I put fragile on there for a reason,” he added as he tapped the large black font with a stern look. As part of his side job he was always cooking up interesting concoctions for his clients, considered the mutant savant by many because of how serious he was to learn how to help us function in everyday society. I had never seen a regular human so dedicated to helping our cause and I wasn’t about to make him regret hiring me to help with it.
Especially when it meant one day he could help me be myself again.
I scoffed at his words and tiptoed carefully to the exit to avoid more of his harping while I could. “I got it, I got it. Shoot me the addresses?”
“Already in your phone, make sure you get all of the signatures this time, Knight.”
“Yes, dad,” I mocked before shuffling out of the lab, careful to avoid any collisions with anyone out in the hall. Barry held the door open for me like he did every time I came up packed to the gills with boxes and we shared our usual polite nod to one another.
Ten frustrating minutes of getting everything bundled up tight on Queenie and I was finally off to do the real work of the day.
-
Being a courier was a fairly easy job. Renato excelled in helping mutants with noticeable mutations by creating temporary serums and little do-dads to aid in his search of making us feel more welcomed in society. Since the clients themselves didn’t usually want to be seen by people other than their kind it was often a quick in and out job. The hardest part was getting to them. Renato may have been science savvy but where he excelled in knowledge he lacked in direction, and it made me ever so thankful for GPS as I rounded the same corner I had been through multiple times in the last 15 minutes.
Thank god these weren’t timed deliveries.
Most of the stops weren’t an issue, usually consisting of an out of the ordinary mutant that just needed some basic supplies. My favorite was a man with red skin and facial hair that rivaled Jack Sparrows. He was charming and straight to the point, and yet his tips were always more than accommodating. His name started with an A but the scribbled signature never revealed the rest.
Others however were... strange. Some left specific instructions in order for me to get confirmation signatures; knock two times on the door to wait for someone to knock back, more than a few required me to face the other way so I couldn’t see them but when I looked back the papers were signed, sometimes tip attached, sometimes other odds and ends. I once received a large quill-like spike as a tip for my efforts. It still sat on my desk to this day.
Before I knew it my final client had come and I rode lazily in the familiar streets of Brooklyn to find the location. His was always my favorite to go to, settled in a small suburb area with people that always seemed to be out and enjoying life without a care in the world. I parked in a vacant area up the street and started towards a cozy-looking home that had seen better days. Not that it was in bad shape, it was just old and in need of some serious case of TLC that its owner was unable to give.
I stopped at the sun stained red door and rang the buzzer once.
No response.
Twice.
Nothing.
“Mr. Lee?” I called, pressing my ear against the door to hear if he was making his way to answer. I was greeted with silence.
I began a hail mary of mashing the buzzer in a last desperate attempt until a soft chuckle interrupted me and I turned. An older man in dark shades sat at a bench nearby and waved to me, beckoning me towards him and I followed.
"Hey! Buongiorno!" he called merrily from his peaceful-looking seat and I laughed softly.
"That's Italian, Mr. Lee. But bonus points for trying,"
"Ah, can't win 'em all I suppose." he chuckled before patting the seat next to him and I obliged, holding his delivery patiently in hand before he smiled warmly and stared forward.
"Relax a little, something on your mind, kiddo? You seem tense!"
Mr. Lee always had a knack for sensing these types of things. He was one of Renato's oldest clients, and he wasn't even a mutant. Renato just enjoyed this old man's zest for life so much that he helped him with simple tasks and now the occasional french tutoring on the side that I gave him during my trips.
"Ah, no. I mean, kind of..."
"Go on then, I've got some time," he chuckled as he nudged me playfully.
I sighed sheepishly in response. I couldn’t exactly tell him my life story. He knew bits and pieces of it, but I was still on the fence about revealing my mutation. Instead, I tried to word it rather poorly, tugging at my gloved hands as I struggled to find proper words.
“I just...I want to be something more, y’know? I worked so hard for this...thing when I was younger and now I’m just this...this burnout of a courier wasting away at college!” I started, unable to control the flood of commentary that was spilling out. “I wanted to be like...like Spiderman! Or the Avengers! Something! I have a gift, my friends tell me every day that I have the means to overcome this... this fear of breaking myself again but I know deep down my body can’t take it...that I can’t be this person they think I can be. And now everyone’s just waiting for me to break again like I’m glass! I hate it!”
There was a heavy silence and I snapped out of my stupor, now standing with hands held over my head in what was once frustration. I didn’t even know where all of it had come from. Like I said, Mr. Lee had a strange gift.
I shot them down sheepishly and took to sitting back to a quiet Mr. Lee who’s bushy white mustache seemed to wiggle with thought.
“I’m sorry…” I quietly apologized before he turned to me, brows wrinkling under his shades with a frown plastered on his face.
“Don’t you ever apologize for expressing yourself,” he ordered gently, resting a hand on my shoulder with a small squeeze. “Life is never completely without its challenges. But that’s what keeps it interesting.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah! Listen, kid. I think you should do what your heart is telling you to do, 'cause deep down it knows that you'll do the right thing.”
“You think so?"
“I know so. I've been in the industry long enough to know a hero when I see one." he chuckled, a warm encouraging smile spreading across his face now. “You can't force these feelings out, kid. It’s got to come from inside of you,” he said while poking his chest proudly.
"Inside me..." I whispered, looking down at my hands in wonder. I knew what he meant, but what could someone like me feel when I wanted to do these things but couldn't? I knew in my heart of hearts what I wanted.
But would that be enough?
Before I could ponder more he stood and stretched his back, resting his weight on his cane. “Give it some thought, you’ve got time,”
“You’re leaving?”
“You’re not?” he teased before he pointed up to the sky and beamed. “I got a date with the universe soon, kiddo. Can’t keep her waiting.”
“Uh-huh…” was all I could muster as I stood and extended my hand out to him. I didn’t know if he was trying to be funny about his days being numbered or if he genuinely was expecting to travel the universe. Events in Brooklynn made it hard to shoot down either idea and Mr. Lee had a look so believable that for a second I actually believed him. “Well, if I don’t see you for a while...J'espère que tu trouveras ton aventure parmi les étoiles.”
“Oh?”
“It means ‘I hope you find your adventure among the stars,’”
“Ah! Mer...mer...merci!” he stammered before taking my hand in his and beaming at me, a feeling of pride radiating off of him at his accomplishment.
“You hang in there, kid. Your own adventure is going to find you soon enough! Remember,” he added, pointing to his chest once more before pointing to me. I nodded and smiled like some solemn promise had just been made between us and in some strange way, it had.
We said our goodbyes shortly after, a broken ‘au revoir’ from Mr. Lee as he sauntered into his home with delivery in hand while I took to Queenie with a little less weight on my shoulders. I was well over the time allotted for the drop-off, but I knew Renato would understand. It was why I always kept his deliveries for last after all, to have deep conversations that always kicked me back on track to the path I truly wanted to be on.
The path that would set things in motion not even an hour later.

BTS Scenario 1 - Your first argument
hJin
Tumblr media
You and Jin had been dating for a while. He was the type of boyfriend who could bring a smile to your face no matter what mood you were in. You could be chilling out reading a book, watching netflix of playing a game not speaking but be totally comfortable in each others company. It was like any other day Jin had called you during a break in practise. You hadn’t saw him for a couple of days with his schedule being hectic working on a new comeback. You had planned to meet later on at the dorms. He had his own place but felt much more comfortable in the other guys presence not liking how quiet it was when he was alone. Not that he’d tell the others that their loudness was a comfort to him.
You walked into the boys dorm heading straight for Jins room knowing he’d be there. You opened his door to see him lay on his bed fully clothed trying his best to stay awake. “Ah baby, you’re late.” Jin grumbles while rubbing his eyes doing his best to stay awake. You smile innocently at him before crawling on his bed and giving him a loose hug around his waist. “I missed you.” You say as you give him a light peck. He smiles pulling you in closer. “It would be a lot easier to see me if you stopped working.” He says groggily into your neck as he places light kisses just under your ear. You push him away as soon as the words utter out of his mouth. For weeks he had been pestering you to quit your work so it would make things easier to see each other when his schedule saw fit. “I don’t ask you to quit your job do I?” You raise your voice not meaning too but the anger over takes you from the lack of respect he has for your job. You knew his heart was in the right place but you still couldn’t stop yourself from feeling so angry. “Baby you know it’s different. You don’t need to work I can afford to look after you. Money isn’t an issue.” He states taking hold of your hand and trying to pull you back down onto the bed next to him. He moves to sit on the edge of the bed as you pull your hand away but letting your fingertips linger on his conflicted. You knew he was right but what did he expect you to do give up your whole life for him? For his job? “It’s not about money Seokjin” You only ever used his full name when angry and he knew this. “Is it such a crime to want to spend time with you when I can? Clearly you don’t feel the same!” He raises his voice this time clearly frustrated that you couldn’t see where he was coming from. “I’m too tired to deal with this tonight.” He sighs lying back down onto his bed. You looked at him biting your bottom lip, he looked exhausted. You sighed lying down next to him and kissing him gently on the cheek. “Maybe we should just go to bed, I don’t like arguing with you.”
Yoongi
Tumblr media
You and Yoongi had been friends before you both admitted your feelings towards each other. You would both constantly bicker about small things. If you were wearing a colour he didn’t like (which you’d do just to see the displeasure on his face) if he played a song loudly on his phone (which you were sure he started to do just to annoy you as well.) but you had never properly argued. Yoongi was someone you felt completely comfortable around he knew everything about you. From the small insinnificant things like your favourite colour, your favourite animal, your favourite movie and favourite place to go eat. To the things you try to keep hidden like the high pitch squeel you make when you’re excited about something like a small child waking up on christmas morning seeing the presents under the tree. To how you lick your lips a lot when you’re nervous. He knew every small detail about you and you knew every small detail about him. That is how you found yourselves having your first argument. Not only first argument but first BIG argument. “I hate when you do this.” He sighed when you looked away from him when he told you he was leaving in a matter of days. He’d left before, he had too it was his job after all. “Hate when I do what? Get sad that you’re leaving? Oh I’m sorry Yoongi would you like me to jump for joy at the fact my boyfriend will be gone for almost 3 month! Let’s not mention the fact you’ve knew for weeks and only decide to tell me now when you’re due to leave in four days!” You didn’t mean to scream at him but you were upset you could feel the tears streaming down your face as each word left your mouth the realty sinking in. Yes of course you were always sad when he left but you were also so happy and proud to see him go out and do what he loves to do. It was always bittersweet but he had never made you feel so down for being sad before. It’s not like you said anything you tried your best to put on a smile when he told you. “I didn’t tell you knowing you’d react like this!” He almost growled not wanting to raise his voice as you had. People always thought of Yoongi as hard but the reality was he was the most sensitive and seeing you upset effected him in ways he couldn’t describe. His heart was breaking watching you sob quietly into your hands as you tried your best to pull yourself together. “I know this is tough I miss you every second I’m gone.” He was on his knees in front of you pulling you into him so your head rested on his shoulder as he silently rubbed your back hoping to calm you down. Which you did, you always calmed in his touch.
Namjoon
Tumblr media
Namjoon was your person. The person you went to about anything and everything. If you were sad he was the person you went to knowing he’d make you feel better, if you were sick he was the person holding your hair, rubbing your back and making sure you drank plenty of water. If you were stressed he was the one to calm you down and make you feel at ease, and if you were happy he was always the reason. You had your fair share of angry moments where one of you would snap at each other but they were quickly resolved so you had never properly argued. Not until that day. Namjoon was on tour, you found it hard to keep up with where he was as it changed constantly. Him and the guys worked so hard. All you knew was that he was somewhere in America. You had been trying to get in contact with him for almost what felt like days but in realty had only been one full 24hours. You knew he was busy but not once in your full relationship had he went without checking in on you or a simple “Goodnight sweetheart” message he would send you always. Maybe you were being selfish wanting his attention when you knew he was working and needing his rest but you couldn’t help feel your anger boil when you were scrolling twitter notcing he had posted pictures of him and Taehyung out sightseeing. He could post on twitter but not reply to a message or call you to let you know how he is, to see how you are. You decided to give it one last try and call him again. Just as you thought the call was about to ring out again you heard a familiar voice on the other end. “Baby it’s late.” You heard him mutter in his groggy sleep deprived voice which you had to admit you had always found very attractive. “It’s been a whole day Namjoon, and we haven’t had a proper conversation in over a week. I miss you.” You tried to your best not to sound snappy but you knew he’d know how you felt. He knew you better than anyone. “I know baby. I’ve been working hard.” He said less sleepily you knew he had probably gotten up so he didn’t fall back asleep. It wouldn’t have been the first time he had fell asleep while on the phone to you. “I matter too.” You knew you were being selfish but you found it hard to be without him for so long. “You’re acting as if I don’t know this. I’ve been touring, playing a show near enough every night you know how tiring that is.” He snaps back at you. You knew you were pushing his buttons but he was pushing yours. There was nothing you hated more than being ignored and you knew he had seen the messaged and missed calls. “Then maybe you should start acting like I matter Namjoon!” You had raised your voice by this point letting your anger overtake you and not holding back anymore. “I should start showing you that you matter? Y/N are you being serious right now? This has been the first time we haven’t spoke every day since we got together. I need to focus on myself sometimes too. Maybe you should stop being so selfish. I need sleep. I will call you in the morning. I love you.” He hung up. You knew you deserved it but it did nothing to calm your mood.
Hoseok
Tumblr media
You and Hoseok had been in a relationship for what felt like forever. Everyone who knew you both knew that you were meant to be. You were always the more serious one in the relationship. Not that Hoseok wasn’t serious he was just always trying to be the person that made everyone smile. Majority of the time it was your favourite thing about him. He could just walk into a room and make everyone feel at ease and bring happiness to the people around him. But not that day. That day you just wanted to feel special. You wanted to be the only person he made smile. You were sat in at practice like you had done many times. There was always so many people around. You sat yourself down on the floor in the far corner of the dance studio. You had brought a book to read for when you got tired of watching them practice. Not that you ever got tired of watching Hoseok dance. It was how you both had met when you decided to wanted to take up dancing. Not that you would say you were any good but it was something you enjoyed. You watched on as Jimin, Jungkook and Hoseok worked on a dance together. It was something you had saw many times but every time they really blew you away. Hoseok looked over at you and gave you a big grin. He loved having you watch on it made him feel a sense of pride and pushed him to work harder. Hours seemed to pass and everyone was getting tired and grouchy. Hoseok didn’t stop he kept pushing on and pushing everyone else to continue. You watched as he’d joke around with the crew doing his best to make them smile. They took a break but he didn’t make his way over to you instead he decided to stay put and do his best to try raise everyones spirits as he broke out into song and dance in the most over the top way he could. He didn’t fail at putting a smile on everyones face Namjoon even tried joining in only resulting in more laughter. You found yourself chewing on the inside of your cheek. You found the scene in front of you just as hilarious as everyone else in the room but you were tired, you were sore from sitting on the hard floor of the studio for hours, your head was starting to hurt with the bright lights and you were annoyed that Hoseok hadn’t once tried to come over to speak to you like he’d always do. You may have well been at home. He looked over at you expecting to see you smiling back at him joining in on the fun instead he was met with cold eyes and a look that would normally have him running. You had never argued but he knew when he was pushing you to the edge as all you’d ever have to do was give him a look that he seen on your face in that moment. He swallowed roughly and made his way over to you in hope of raising your mood and bringing the smile back onto your face. “I’m not a second though Hoseok so just don’t bother.” You say sternly as you pull yourself to your feet dusting off your skinny jeans as you stand. “You’re never a second thought.” He tries pulling you into a hug but you shake off his attempt. “Babe don’t be like that. Everyone is getting tired we’ve been at this for hours now.” He tries to reason with you, to show you how silly you’re being but you’re stubborn and he knows this. You look up at him before sighing. “I’m going to head home.I will see you in a few hours.” You give him a peck on the cheek avoiding his sweaty hair before walking away. Later he returns from practice with a bouquet of your favouite flowers. He walks into the room to find you had set out his favourite meal along with a big pile of his favourite movies to watch. You knew you shouldn’t have been angry at him for just being the person you fell madly in love with.
So yeah this is my first BTS Scenario/Reaction. Sorry if it is awful it’s my first time writing in well years. I will start working on the Maknae line I just realised how long this actually is and it took more time than I thought it would. Please send me your requests and feedback!

Note
I have a muddle of a fic request, if you have time. you know how lucien gets jean to help him reenact crime scenes sometimes, and jean has turned the tables on him and had him do it (like in the watch those tatties scene). well, i want that with jean taking advantage of him.
smut. just lots and lots and lots of smut. like seriously, a lot of smut.
Jean sighed. After tossing and turning for almost an hour, she was forced to accept she just wasn’t going to be sleeping any time soon. Especially not without Lucien next to her. In the few short months they had been married, her entire body had become attuned to him and it felt like she couldn’t remember a time she ever slept without his solid warmth beside her.
Sliding out of bed and slipping her slippers and robe on, she padded softly down the hallway and into Lucien’s study. Leaning her hip against the door, she watched as her husband pace back and forth, rubbing anxiously at the back of his neck, stopping to think for a moment, and then shaking his head and resuming his pacing.
She smiled softly at his antics. He was one of a kind. And, she thought warmly, he’s mine.
“Knock, knock.”
He started at the sound of her voice, his face instantly breaking into a smile upon seeing her. He reached a hand out to her and she went to him, slipping effortlessly into his arms. “Couldn’t sleep?”
Jean smiled ruefully. “No, my husband apparently found something more interesting than me to occupy his time with this evening, so I was left all alone. And I’ve grown rather used to having him next to me, so…”
Lucien looked down, abashed. “I’m sorry, love. This case is just,” he let out a little huff of frustrations. “I just don’t understand it.”
Jean stood back and allowed her husband to resume his pacing, settling herself against his desk and crossing her arms over her chest. “What don’t you understand?”
“Daniels—our murder victim–was found spread eagle on the bedroom floor, clearly strangled to death. Every inch of evidence points to his mistress as the perpetrator but he was killed with bare hands; Alice determined it from the post-mortem bruising patterns.”
Jean nodded and pursed her lips, not following. “So why haven’t you arrested the mistress? It sounds like she clearly did it.”
Lucien nodded slowly, “Yes, but…”
“But?”
“Well, I just don’t see how she could have done it.”
Jean arched an eyebrow at him. “You mean to tell me you can’t imagine a woman murdering a man? Because I can tell you, Lucien, it’s crossed more than one woman’s mind.”
Lucien huffed out a laugh and raised his hand in surrender, “No doubt about that.” She smiled at him, knowingly, and let him continue. “I just mean strangling is intimate and requires quite a bit of strength. Why didn’t Daniels just fight her off?”
Jean cocked her head to the side, thinking. “Poison?”
He waved her off, “No, toxicology was clean. And no alcohol either–well, not enough to make me think he couldn’t have reasonably fought her off.”
And then it came to Jean in a flash, the murder itself almost playing perfectly in her head. But this was perhaps her only chance at taking advantage of tactic so oft used by Lucien and she certainly wasn’t going to waste it.
“Get on the floor, Lucien.”
He turned an incredulous look upon her. “Pardon?”
Pushing herself up off the desk and shedding her robe and slippers, she repeated herself. “You heard me. Maybe you just need to reenact the moment? That’s what you normally do, isn’t it?”
Wondering what game his wife was playing, Lucien lowered himself to the floor in an approximation of how they had found the victim’s body, spread-eagle.
Jean circled him, taking in, feeling suddenly mischievous and powerful. Here was her husband before her, at her mercy. He had left her alone in a big, empty bed in order to solve something that seemed so obvious to Jean. Well, this was her moment to take.
Lucien spoke from the floor, “Uh, Jean? Is there something you had planned? The floor is rather uncomfor–oof!”
In a heartbeat, Jean was straddling him, knee on either side of his hip. He looked up at her, shocked. “Jean!”
Settling herself over his body, Jean rolled her hips experimentally before leaning over him and wrapping her hands around his wrists, pinning him to the floor. Lucien shifted beneath her, but didn’t struggle to break free. He simply raised an eyebrow at her, waiting for an explanation.
“Well, no alcohol, no drugs, and no restraints, right?” He nodded. “Well, do you know what a woman’s other option is?” Lucien’s brow furrowed, nose scrunching in thought. Finally, after a helpless look, Jean helped him out. She brushed his nose with hers and her lips ghosted over his.
“Seduction.”
Jean slanted her lips over his and sucked his bottom lip gently, nipping at the soft flesh there before using her tongue to lave over the gentle bite. Beneath her, Lucien groaned and returned her kiss, hands instinctively reaching for any part of her that he could reach. Jean tightened her hands over his in warning and Lucien understood: don’t move.
She broke the kiss and peppered kisses over his cheek, nose, and forehead. “I’m going to let go of your wrists now, but you’re not going to move are you?”
Lucien shook his head obediently, “Not if you’re going to stop.”
She pressed a rewarding kiss to his lips. “That’s right.” Sliding down his body, Jean set to work licking and kissing at the skin of his neck. Lucien groaned and his hips twitched upwards. Jean felt his hardness press against her belly and she grinned against his neck, proud.
Deftly, her fingers set about unfastening each button of his shirt, pressing a kiss to each newly exposed patch of skin. In just a few short moments, his chest and abdomen were exposed to her and she set about touching him in all the places she had learned pleased him so well.
First, a kiss to each hardened nipple which resulted in chills spreading across his skin and out of the corner of her eye, she saw his hands briefly come up off the floor before curling into fists and falling back to the ground. She pressed a kiss to his sternum in reward and resumed her task.
With featherlight touches, she tweaked his nipples and Lucien moaned, hips bucking and she reveled in the sound of his gasped, throaty, “Jean!”
She hushed him, “Patience, patience.”
Lucien continued to roll his hips, desperately seeking friction and the warmth of her body. “I don’t have any more patience, love. Please. Please.”
Jean shimmied up his body, nails digging into the skin of his chest and slotted her mouth over his. As she broke the kiss, she noted with pride that he chased her lips, eyes still closed and seeking her out.
No matter how many times they did this dance and sang this song, it thrilled her. He thrilled her. Beneath her hand, she felt his heart pounding wildly and she knew he needed her as badly as she needed him. The wetness between her legs was proof enough.
Sitting back on her heels, still straddling him, Jean’s hands went to his trousers, slipping the button free and tugging the zipper down gently. She cupped him in her hand, the weight of him heavy and his heat searing.
Lucien’s eyes were wild, his skin flushed, and his hips thrusting up into her hand. Her name was the only word he knew and he chanted it into the darkness. “Jean, Jean, please, Jean.”
She continued stroking his cock, hand twisting with each upward stroke and running a hand over the head, sweeping the fluid leaking from the tip down and over his length.
“Fuck.”
The curse surprised Jean. Lucien was not one to curse normally, but the out of place word seemed oddly appropriate for the moment and Jean savored the sinfulness of it.
Lucien panted, hands clenching and unclenching beside him. “Jean, please love, let me touch you.”
She shook her head, the speed of her strokes increasing. “That wasn’t the rule, sweetheart.”
His head thrashed from side to side, lost in the pleasure of her touch. Jean took pride in this power, the ability to reduce this brilliant man to a babbling, incoherent mess.
“Love, I need to, I need to,” he gasped out. “I need to be inside you, please.”
Jean wholeheartedly agreed. As much enjoyment as she was getting out of teasing him this way, her own desires were mounting and she wanted her husband inside of her–where he belonged.
She pressed a kiss to his navel, his stomach jumping at the touch. “Yes, sweetheart.” She let him go and pushed her nightgown up around her hips and slid over him. Jean reached behind her and grasped his erection, lining it up with her entrance and then she sank down onto him.
They both gasped and Jean fell forward, her hands going around his wrists. But it didn’t matter, Lucien didn’t need his hands to make love to his wife. He thrust up into her over and over again. Jean, for her part, rocked her hips in time with each thrust, pulling him deeper inside her.
Lucien was babbling incoherently in her ear and she caught every other word, too wrapped up in the building pleasure within her. “Yes, Lucien, yes, right there, right there.”
She glanced at him and noted the way his eyes were screwed close and his lips wordlessly formed her name over and over again. The sight of her husband so lost in pleasure pushed her over the edge and she came around him, her walls clenching hard around his cock within her. Muffling her pleasure, she turned her head into his neck and bit down hard.
The wave of pain mixed with pleasure tipped Lucien over the edge, too, and he was spilling himself inside of her, calling her name.
She lay on top of him, his sweat-slicked skin soaking through the thin material of her nightgown. He was rapidly softening inside of her, still twitching.
“Can I touch you now, Jeannie?”
She laughed and released his wrists and he immediately wrapped his arms around her, hands splaying over her back before burying his fingers in her hair. “Not that I’m complaining, but what brought that on.”
Lifting her head from his chest, she pressed a finger into the rapidly darkening bruise on his neck. “Did you even feel me do this?”
He shook his head, dazed. “No.”
She grinned. “Exactly.”
“I’m still not following.”
Huffing and rolling her eyes, Jean pressed a kiss to his neck. “You, my love, are now dead. It’s how your murderer distracted her victim.”
Lucien whistled low in understanding before laughing and gathering her up firmly into his arms. “Oh love, you can kill me any time.”

Historical Hour With Hilary: 1x04
Tumblr media
As ever, catch up with earlier installments here, but if you’re ready to rock and roll and head straight to the cheery subject of Nazi Germany in 1944, carry on. This week, we really see what this crazy job is costing our team, and are invited to think very carefully about some of our usual clear-cut distinctions between good and evil, in “Party at Castle Varlar.”
Count me impressed (as I am with most things this show does) that for the inevitable World War II episode, they focused on such an unknown event, and then went for the jugular of explicitly pointing out the overwhelming involvement of Nazi rocket scientists in America’s fledgling space program. We’ll get to that part later, but first, the “Party at Castle Varlar” on 9 December 1944 was a real event, and Wernher von Braun was indeed one of the chief honorees. It is not something that would be known to the casual WWII fan, and its history is somewhat obscure. The location, Schloss Varlar or Castle Varlar in Rosendahl, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, was originally a monastery dating from the 11th century, and German Wikipedia tactfully does not mention its stint as Nazi celebration central in the winter of 1944, nor does the local history of the property and grounds. One can understand the desire not to be associated with a party that actually did involve firing off murder rockets, drinking and decorating Nazis with fancy ribbons, firing off more murder rockets, and lots and lots of swastikas, but it does make it hard to chase down extensive details.
The main purpose of the Castle Varlar party, however, was to celebrate the V2 rocket, the invention that Hitler had pinned his hopes to as a game-changing superweapon in the waning days of WWII. Like everything the Nazis did, it was fueled by horrible human rights abuses, concentration camps, and the indiscriminate death of enslaved laborers at its assembly complex in Mittelbau; each functional rocket cost about six human lives, and over 15,000 prisoners would die between 1943-1945; the SS killed another 11,000 trying to clear the camps before the Americans arrived. This is far more than the V2 itself ever actually killed, and to say the least, it did not win the war for Hitler. It also led to the post-war removal of over 1,500 Nazi scientists by the U.S. Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency, especially those who had worked on rocket technology, to be tried for war crimes -- nope, to be invited to America, with full new false identities and strategic cover-ups of their pasts, and made part of the American space program. It was codenamed Operation Paperclip. There’s a 41-page list of them if you want to look, and as Annie Jacobsen points out, “These were not nominal Nazis.” Almost half of the top-ranking twenty-one scientists had worked directly with Hitler, Himmler, or Goring during WWII, including von Braun. As the Time Team has to reckon with, America’s success in the Space Race was a direct result of the importation of Nazi rocket scientists. And yep, it was hella covered up and lied about by the U.S. government, and justified as keeping the Nazis away from the Soviets. (Yeah, considering the German-Russian experience in WWII, I’m guessing the Nazis were really eager to go work for Stalin.) Oh yeah, Britain got in on the action as well.
We can clearly see this attitude in a 1995 memo reviewing Operation Paperclip, in which we are reminded that the State Department was urged to, you know, completely forget that these guys were Nazis in the name of National Security Against The Commies:
The possibility of scientists being won to the Soviet side in the Cold War was, according to Captain Wev, the highest consideration. In a March 1948 letter to the State Department, Wev assessed the prevailing view in the government: "[R]esponsible officials ... have expressed opinions to the effect that, in so far as German scientists are concerned, Nazism no longer should be a serious consideration from a viewpoint of national security when the far greater threat of Communism is now jeopardizing the entire world. I strongly concur in this opinion and consider it a most sound and practical view, which must certainly be taken if we are to face the situation confronting us with even an iota of realism. To continue to treat Nazi affiliations as significant considerations has been aptly phrased as `beating a dead Nazi horse.'"
Say it with me, kids: Everything is terrible. Love nothing.
(Did you really expect an essay about the Nazis to be cheery?)
Von Braun went on to a glittering career in America, including directly influencing Walt Disney’s 1950s fascination with space exploration, and being responsible for the building of the Saturn V rocket at the Marshall Space Flight Center. Just to reiterate: He was at the Castle Varlar party to be decorated for his achievements with the V2, which had achieved its biggest single success three days before, on 6 December 1944, when a strike killed 561 people in a theater in Antwerp, Belgium. Overall, the V2 killed about 9,000 people over several months; the Allied bombing campaign against Hamburg, Germany in 1943 -- “Operation Gomorrah” -- killed 42,600 German civilians in a week. You can read more about von Braun’s long and unsettling career, relationship with Hitler, and so forth here. Maybe take a cute kitten or two.
Meanwhile, the Time Team meets up with the real-life James Bond, to Wyatt’s fanboy delight: Ian Fleming. This is a bit of a stretch on Timeless’ part. While Fleming’s special intelligence division, No. 30 Commando or 30 Assault Unit, was involved in operations against German scientists in the winter of 1944, Fleming himself was off on recon missions in the Far East, and usually did not participate in frontline operations anyway. However, it’s more fun to meet Fleming rather than a guy who happened to work for him, and Wyatt is certainly not complaining. (By coincidence, Ian Fleming has a niece named Lucy, who is now in charge, along with her sister, of her late uncle’s estate.)
And now, if you haven’t had enough of them, a final word about the Nazis:
In episodes like this, in the endless WWII dramas, books, TV series, films, games, and other entertainment, in every kind of popular entertainment where the Nazis have become the stock villain, where we have become desensitized to them by their ubiquitous presence, it is incredibly easy to forget how evil these people were, and that America was being encouraged/was willing to do so as soon as WWII was over. Yes, every argument on the internet will involve someone invoking Hitler at some point, but a “Nazi” is not just anyone you dislike or who has a strong opinion on grammar, but someone who was, and is, part of a specific, pervasive, and unspeakably evil political ideology that is once more increasingly accepted and celebrated today. If you find someone trying to distance what they believe from the concrete label of “Nazism,” then yes, they may be technically correct that they were not a National Socialist in Germany between 1933-1945, but Grandma Hilary asks, rather begs you, to lower your glasses, squint very hard at this person, and ask why they’re cool with everything about this political ideology except the name. Is it because they know Nazis Are Bad (which used to be the most uncontroversial statement in history and now has become subject to Discourse (tm) in the name of Giving Everything A Fair Chance) But We Aren’t Them?
Repeat after me: There is no moral equivalency between Nazism and strenuously opposing Nazism by every means available. You are not “just as bad as them” if you have a zero tolerance line on this. Nazism is not fun, Nazism is not cool, Nazism is not something to be excused or downplayed or rhetorically hedged about or selectively borrowed from, Nazism is not just “harmless white pride,” Nazism is not unique to Germany under Hitler, and Nazism is not just something that Indiana Jones villains are. This should not even be a debate. This should not be the ghost of a question.
Got it? Good.
Next week: Remember the Alamo? Well, maybe.

Could you do Billy Batson headcanons? That bean is to precious for this world
Muahaha, I was actually going to post hcs about Billy and now I have a reason to. Thanks for that, mused on these while writing my prompt here. Totally want to write more of Billy/Jay and just Billy in general which'll follow this model I created of Billy.
- So thinking on the Cap/Billy dynamic, they’re the same person on a technical level but Captain Marvel is supposedly the embodiment of a purely good mortal while Bill is a kindhearted, but still fallible, human. Billy’s a homeless kid so he’s got his own issues aside from normal human junk. My theory is that the “Bad” parts of Billy are kind of tamped down when he becomes the Captain and the “Best” parts are brought to the surface to form the core of Cap’s personality. Billy as a whole is still there, but one side is more emphasized due to the magic at work. So like Billy can say something (“That asshole’s a real jerk, I’m gonna kick him in the nuts”) and it sort of gets filtered into something more wholesome (“That man is being a jerk, I’m going to kick his butt”). Billy finds it kind of embarrassing at first but he gets used to it, if he concentrates, he can push more of himself onto Cap.
- Going off the point above about Billy being filtered, all the curse words Billy says end up coming across as super PG sayings. Holy shit becomes Cap’s signature Holy Moly. So all this time Cap is saying these adorkably cute exclamations, imagine Billy inside cursing his head off (I laughed, I’m big enough to admit that)
- My version of Billy is mostly the version from Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam short film (if you haven’t seen it, watch it! The bean is so cute), which is kinda similar to the comic Superman/Shazam: First Thunder which I also like. Then a handful of N52 Billy (he’s a dick, but like a realistic kid in his situation so I take that into account) and of course, the ever precious YJ version.
- I like homeless Billy and by that I mean I think it’s interesting to have a homeless hero just for diversity but also to add a different perspective to the League. After giving it some thought, I like the idea of Billy being kind of known as a trouble maker for the State. It’s not his fault, as a kid he just defended people who were being hurt and was always blamed cause the orphan is an easy target. Because of his record, he has a hard time being placed in a foster home so he was on the streets a lot. Finally, he gets into the good home with good people and he becomes Captain Marvel soon after. Time passes and there’s a couple of near misses and Billy realizes he’d putting his foster family in danger. So he heads back to the streets into order to keep them safe. he’s been on and off them for years so he survives, plus his foster siblings (the other Marvels) are there helping out whenever possible. He lives in an old, dirty subway in a tent and he scrapes together money through a couple small jobs and from begging or his foster siblings.
- I like the idea of street wise Billy, who acts kind of sarcastic and cautious on the outside but inside is a super softie. He’s not nearly as cranky or skittish as Jason, he’s a lot more optimistic, makes the best of his sad situation and always does what he can to help. He gets angry and lashes out and cries, but he’s still overall pretty happy. He’s kind of a goody two shoes for a desperate kid. He used to sometimes steal money/food but after becoming Cap, he never felt right. In order to make ends meet, he swallowed his pride and does a little begging here and there because he’s got to eat. If he’s truly desperate, will go hang out in the Watchtower and covertly grab some food.
- Batman learns Billy’s identity rather quickly and didn’t know what to do. He stalled for a while over how to handle Billy because he sees Billy is in a foster home and being taken care of and is handling Captain Marvel rather well. He makes a sly effort to keep the Cap away from ugly crime scenes, the League aids just because Cap is so naïve and innocent they don’t want him involved in that. Bruce grows complacent and doesn’t realize until months later that Billy left his foster home. It’s around this time, Bruce takes in jay and sees first hand what the streets do to a kid and enough is enough. He confronts Billy about it, he’s calm and non-judging but he refuses to let things continue. He even offers straight up to adopt him along with Jay. Billy thanks him but refuses. Bruce upgrades him to a better apartment and gives him a monthly stipend (he calls it a ‘salary’ for Cap’s work as a hero to make Billy accept it) for food and whatever he needs. Billy still keeps his jobs because he likes earning his own pay. the League is not informed on Billy’s request.
- Jay figured early on that Cap had gone through a lot of the same experiences he did and, while he suspected that Billy was younger than everyone thought, he was stunned to find out Billy was a few months younger than him. They’d become friends and Billy had confided in him. Jay burst into B’s study that night and demanded Billy be adopted ASAP. Bruce had to explain his offer had been declined. But Billy and Jay become super tight and he’s over at the Manor a lot. Alfred adores the kid because he’s charming and polite and a good influence on Jason. Jay is super protective of the kid, he's older and the kid acts like the world is actually a decent place. Billy’s kindness and optimism really do wonders for Jay when Bruce can’t. Bruce likes that the boys are helping each other recover from their difficult childhoods. But as things get harder for Jason, there’s only so much Billy can do. Jay begins to push him away in his depression/anger and they had a pretty big fight just before Jay left to find his mom. Cap hears about Jay’s death on the Watchtower, he starts crying onto Batman’s shoulder and Bruce lets himself hug and be hugged for the first time since his boy died.
- Eventually the League does find out that the World’s Mightiest Mortal is actually a 13 year old and they are pissed. Mostly at Batman cause they knew that dick was in the know. Supes, GL and Flash want Billy out of heroing yesterday. Wondie, Bats, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter think Billy has earned his place and she be cared for within the League. Billy does choose to stay but is now upset over how everyone hovers now. It is nice to hang around them as Billy, not just Cap. It was worth the headache to see everyone’s faces when he can actually properly curse for the first time in front of them. Clark almost gets out the soap for his mouth. He still insists on his independence but it’s nice that the others invite him over for dinner and sleepovers. It’s nice to feel loved. He does that maybe once every 10 days or so and it rotates between Leaguers. He eventually builds a stronger rapport with the League and becomes a good mediator between the adult League and their kids/sidekicks since he is a kid and understands but also highly respected by the adults.

It’s week 2 of Non-Fiction November and this week’s prompt is over on Sarah’s Book Shelves and it is all about pairing up non-fiction books with fiction.
I thought this was going to be really difficult but once I took a few minutes to think about it, and to scroll through my Goodreads account, I came up with a few!
Firstly I have a couple of nonfiction books to recommended.. If you loved one then I think you’ll love the other too!
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer + Dead Mountain by Donnie Eichar
I read both of these books in 2019 and they are both such fascinating reads. Each features explorations of very cold, inhospitable places and reflections on what happened along with some history. Dead Mountain is looking at a mysterious case from the 1950s where a group of experienced explorers all died in very strange circumstances. Into Thin Air is about a group who climb Everest in the 1990s but something goes wrong near the summit and people died. Afterwards there was a lot of discussion about the truth of what happened that day. I think if you enjoyed one of these books you would also enjoy the other.
The Last Act of Love by Cathy Rentzenbrink + Past Caring by Audrey Jenkinson
I read these books quite a long time ago but it’s testament to them that I still remember them so clearly. The Last Act of Love is an incredibly moving book about the aftermath of an accident that seriously injured Cathy’s brother. She and her family looked after him from then on until his death. Past Caring is a book that I discovered in the months after my mum died and it was a huge help to me. It’s all about how it feels, and how to cope, when you have been a carer for a loved one who has since died. It’s hard to suddenly not be a carer anymore, to not be needed when it’s been your life for so long. I recommend both of these books – the first is a book for everyone and the second is more for if you have been caring for someone, it really is an excellent resource.
Then I have some fiction books that I’ve read and enjoyed so have paired them with some non-fiction titles that are linked in some way.
Full Disclosure by Camryn Garrett + How to Survive a Plague: The Story of How Activists and Scientists Tamed AIDS by David France AND And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic by Randy Schilts
I just finished reading Full Disclosure at the weekend so I haven’t yet written my review. As soon as I started writing this post though I knew I had to include it. It’s about a teenage girl who is HIV Positive (which she contracted from her birth mother). She lives with her two dads and lives a very normal life. The book is a brilliant portrayal of what it is to live with HIV in the present day and I recommend it. I wanted to pair it with two books that both give such an excellent overview of the history of HIV and AIDS. Randy Schilts book is an older book so it doesn’t cover more recent developments but it is still a very good read. David France’s book is very recent and I found it fascinating. Both non-fiction books are well-researched but they’re written in a very accessible way and I would recommend them to anyone wanting to know more.
The Things We Thought We Knew by Mahsuda Snaith + It’s All in Your Head: True Stories of Imaginary Illness by Suzanne O’Sullivan
The Things We Thought We Knew is a brilliant novel following a teenager who is bedbound with chronic pain. Through the novel we learn that her childhood best friend went missing and she has struggled to cope with the loss. Her situation is complex and I felt such sympathy for her. I adored the novel and am keen to re-read it. The non-fiction I recommend after reading the novel is It’s All in Your Head. I read this book whilst recovering from neurosurgery and I got engrossed in it. It’s a book by a doctor who is exploring illnesses where there is no apparent physical cause. She never says it’s all in your mind in a dismissive way, it’s more a fascinating look at how our minds can cause symptoms to present in the body. These symptoms need treating just as much as actual physical illness but O’Sullivan shows how patients and doctors need to be open to exploring other avenues such as psychotherapy. I loved the book and highly recommend it.
Carry You by Beth Thomas + Motherless Daughters: The Legacy of Loss by Hope Edelman
I read Carry You about five years ago and it’s a book that’s really stayed with me. It’s a contemporary novel and the main character is trying to re-build her life after the death of her mum. I loved the book and want to re-read it soon. I’m pairing it with Motherless Daughters, which is a book I discovered in the months after my mum died. It was the book I needed in those months and I recommend it to anyone who has lost their mother. I liked how Hope tells her own story but the book also contains lots of other women’s stories too so it really is a book for any woman whose mother has died. It’s perhaps not a book if you haven’t experienced that loss but it’s one to make a note of, I have since gifted copies to friends who are grieving the loss of their own mother.
Still Lives by Maria Hummell + After the Eclipse by Sarah Perry
I read Still Lives very recently and found it a really interesting read. It features an art exhibition by a female artist who has painted herself into the murder scene of women who became infamous after their deaths (such as Nicole Brown-Simpson). It’s a crime thriller but what stood out to me was the exploration of how society either fetishises murdered women, or it ignores them completely to focus on the killer. I’m pairing this with After the Eclipse, which is one of my favourite non-fiction books that I’ve read this year. In this book Sarah Perry writes about the murder of her mum when she was a young teenager. Sarah explores her own emotions from the time but also looks back on the time through her adult eyes. She really made me think about how in our fascination with true crime documentaries we often almost forget that the murdered woman was a person, she had a family and friends. This is a book I recommend to everyone.
The First Time Lauren Pailing by Alyson Rudd + I Am I Am I Am by Maggie O’Farrell
I read The First Time Lauren Pailing Died a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. It’s about Lauren Pailing and she has a fairly ordinary life but when she’s a teen she dies in an accident. At this point we see the aftermath of her death and how it affected her loved ones but we also see Lauren survive the accident and go on with her life. She later dies again and the splits occur once more and you follow all the timelines. It’s such a good read, and even though it sounds confusing I found it easy to follow. I think if you enjoyed this book you should read I Am I Am I Am by Maggie O’Farrell. I’m the biggest fan of her writing so was eager to read her first non-fiction writing and it’s a brilliant book. Maggie looks back on her life through each of the times that she had a brush with death. This book really resonated with me and I’m definitely going to re-read it next year. If you haven’t already read it, I highly recommend it.
Histories by Sam Guglani + Breaking and Mending by Joanna Cannon
Histories is an interlinked short story collection that I found really powerful. You see the hospital through the eyes of different people who are there – doctors, nurses, cleaners, admin staff and patients and each story adds depth to another story in the book. It’s a great read and really stays with you. Breaking and Mending is Joanna Cannon’s reflections on her time as a junior doctor and it’s an incredibly powerful book. I found it breathtaking in how she shows the realities of working in the NHS and it’s made such an impression on me. This is a book I recommend to everyone.
The Lion Tamer Who Lost by Louise Beech + Good As You: From Prejudice to Pride – 30 Years of Gay Britain by Paul Flynn
The Lion Tamer Who Lost is one of my favourite novels so I recommend it if you haven’t already read it. It follows Ben who is working at a lion reserve in Africa, which he’s always dreamt of doing but he’s not happy. Over the novel we find out about Ben’s relationship with Andrew and it’s such a stunning read. It made me cry when I read it but now when I think of it I remember the beauty and hope in the early days of Ben and Andrew as they fall in love. I’m pairing this with Good As You, which is a book looking back at 30 years of what it is to be gay in Britain. It’s one of those non-fiction books that you learn things from but it’s written in such a way that you fly through it. I was picking it up every chance I had, just like I do with fiction. Both books have heartbreak and hope and I recommend them.
Accidental Emeralds by Vivienne Tuffnell + The Point of Poetry by Joe Nutt
Accidental Emeralds is a poetry collection that I read around the time I started reviewing books on my blog. It’s a beautiful collection that looks at longing and love through the changing of the seasons. I loved the collection and plan to re-read it but I was very apprehensive about reviewing it because I never feel like I’m clever enough to fully understand how to write about poetry. Earlier this year I read The Point of Poetry by Joe Nutt which is a brilliant book that looks at a selection of poems and explores them in a way that makes poetry feel so accessible. The book even made me re-read a poem that I detested while studying at school and I ended up finding I really enjoyed it. The Point of Poetry is for everyone and I recommend it to anyone who has ever felt intimidated to read poetry or to write about it.
The Evidence Against You by Gillian McAllister + Stand Against Injustice by Michelle Diskin Bates
This pairing was a late edition to this post but I wanted to include it anyway. The Evidence Against You is a crime thriller that follows a young woman as her father is about to be released from prison. He was convicted of killing her mother but now he’s  protesting his innocence. She doesn’t know what to believe but she decides to try and find out what the truth is. A couple of weeks ago I read Stand Against Injustice which is about a terrible miscarriage of justice. Barry George was wrongfully convicted of murdering TV presenter Jill Dando and this book, written by Barry’s sister, explores what the family have been through over the last twenty years. It really gives an insight into what it is having a loved one in prison, and how much it takes to fight for justice. I highly recommend this one.
