Pride should be accessible

It’s not a hot take. It’s not even a lukewarm take. Pride should be accessible for the disabled community. I attended my local pride yesterday and while the march was accessible and enjoyable (in spite of the British weather), the community village and entertainment events were hosted on a large field just outside the city centre. No boards or anything to allow access for wheelchairs, so with the rain the area was so muddy my friends and I had to give up and go home. We were unwilling to risk getting anyone’s chair stuck in the mud or loosing a cane to the boggy conditions. Make pride accessible for all. Think about accessibility in your planning of major events like this. We exist, don’t overlook us.

This Pride I hope that all of you never ever forget that no amount of sanitizing your sex life or sanding down of your LGBT edges will make bigots accept you. So, don’t debase yourself by capitulating an inch to them, especially in ways that throw your fellow community members under the bus.

I feel like this is so important to talk about and spread to everyone. Even the allies because the more people that stand with us and keep pushing back against these hateful people and their agendas trying to erase us.

The easier it will be to stop that or to at least prevent so much more deaths or hate crimes. The bigger the numbers that stand together and push back, the more progess that will happen despite all of this misinformation and targeting on LGBTQ+ people.

That also stands for alot of different things too. Like the wage gap, the actor strike & writer strike, against fascism, and against racism in alot of ethic groups that happen alot in this country and around the world.

Sticking together and having bigger amounts of support that is pushing back on this type of thinking will make progess even if it will be slow.

So within two days of each other, Fox News writes an article comparing aromanticism and asexuality to pedophilia, and then Matt Walsh releases a video saying asexuality is a mental illness and asexuals are tricking teenagers into having depression.

Not sure what’s going on right now over in Conservative World, but it’s a hell of wild U-turn for them to suddenly switch from “Oh no! The left is sexualizing our children!” to “Oh no! The left is asexualizing our children!”

I have found the best ally

Straight and cis people will say that they are allies, but you will NEVER measure up to my dentist.

Me: "Hey, is it ok if I can change my name on my info from [DEADNAME] to Aspen?"

Random woman that I wasn't even talking to in the chair next to me: "Honey, if that's the name you had at birth, [DEADNAME] is your only name."

My dentist, very slowly turning her rolley chair towards the woman: "Shush."

Random woman: "Excuse me?"

Me: *pissing myself laughing*

My dentist while changing my name in my info (reminder that English is not her first language, she immigrated from Russia): "There, Aspen, you have pretty boy teeth. Smile and make all girls swoon."

Me not having the heart to tell her I'm not transmasc but I'm Agender, and still pissing myself laughing: "Thank you [DENTIST NAME]."

This discourse telling bi women to leave their boyfriends at home during pride is absolutely ridiculous for so many reasons, main one being is that allies are allowed to go to pride, you know that right? People have to also let go of this idea that they can 'tell' who is queer. No you can't! Plenty of trans men pass as cis men, and plenty of bi women date bi men.
