𝑷𝑰𝑵𝑲 𝑺𝑯𝑰𝑹𝑻 𝑱𝑨𝑽𝑰 𝑷𝑬𝑵𝑪𝑰𝑳𝑺
I’m so proud to announce this project I’ve been working on for the past two months. It’s a labour of love, and it’s become a real lifeline for me, a much needed distraction, while I’m still grappling with the emotional aftermath of my miscarriage. I’ve always loved custom pencils and it’s been so healing indulging my creativity in something physical that I can hold in my hands.
A brief summary:
Each set is priced at US$8. Standard shipping to most countries is US$7, to be confirmed when the order is placed.
Each set contains 6 ombré pink, laser engraved pencils, unsharpened
The packaging was designed and illustrated personally by me
Each box is individually folded and packaged by me, and will be shipped from Hong Kong
There are 35 sets of these pencils available for purchase. I truly have no idea if anyone will be interested! I know it’s not even Halloween, but if you’re looking for a Christmas present for yourself or a friend, I hope you’ll consider these cuties 💕
If you are interested, please fill in the form below. I will then contact you with an order form and payment details. Thank you and I hope to hear from some of you 💗 Future updates will be posted from my other account @fuckyeahpaperco.

Hello! I love Lionheart (literally started four days ago and have read continuously since and am, in a word, Obsessed).
One thing I've noticed that is a common theme among Dramoine fics is how Draco gets away with his pureblood ideology and essentially has no consequences (besides Hermoine's anger/disgust) until his eventual redemption arc through their romance. However, I've noticed that your fic is unique in the way that Draco is constantly held accountable, especially backlash from Ron (btw, love the way you characterized Ron, my boy deserves some justice) and Harry, but especially through Hermoine, who fights back in any way she knows how. So my question is: what are your thoughts on this common trope within the Dramoine fandom? Do you think that Draco's eventual love for Hermoine negates the harm that he's done in the past?
I absolutely believe that love can be redemptive, but that doesn't mean you redeem yourself by loving. It's not about how you feel, it's about what you do. You can love someone a whole lot, but if you don't treat them well, and make a real effort to be good to them, well — I mean, I'm not saying it doesn't "matter," because everything always matters, but I wouldn't say that love has really changed you. Which is to say, I don't know that it's really love at all.
Draco can't be made better by the fact of loving Hermione, but he can make himself better because of it. Reasoning past, getting over, and making amends for his past wrongdoing should — ideally — be part of that development. Now, this is assuming that you want to do a real, honest-to-God, "I'm going to drag this horrible little wet blorbo kicking and screaming into Heroism" redemption arc. Maybe you don't! Maybe you want to write a story about two fucked-up people who fuck each other up more. Maybe you want to write about a bad man who isn't held accountable, and the kind of person that produces. Draco Malfoy can be many people, depending on where you take him, and many of them are interesting without being particularly nice or good. And you can still do great fiction about that! Romances with and between horrible characters can be totally delicious. I'm a big fan of 'em. But the kind of love I personally prize the most — the kind that makes us, if anything can earn this word, really, truly holy — is a love that's so selfless you are willing to be changed by it, and to change for it, and to constantly reforge yourself in order to do justice to the object of your love. It's veneration. It's finding in each other a reason for goodness. That's what I think real humans should look for, and so I guess I can't help trying to write about it when it comes to fake humans.
So when we talk about love as the catalyst for a redemption arc, I think what we mean is: love can awaken you to the personhood of others and ignite latent capacities for empathy that might not have existed otherwise. It opens you up to new ways of seeing, of being — James Baldwin in The Price of the Ticket has a brilliant quotation that captures it perfectly:
"If your lover lives in Hong Kong and cannot get to Chicago, it will be necessary for you to go to Hong Kong. Perhaps you will spend your life there, and never see Chicago again. And you will, I assure you, as long as space and time divide you from anyone you love, discover a great deal about shipping routes, airlines, earth quake, famine, disease, and war. And you will always know what time it is in Hong Kong, for you love someone who lives there. And love will simply have no choice but to go into battle with space and time and, furthermore, to win."
#thesis statement of my personality and all writing ever probably. so. guess i'll casually drop that on a friday afternoon#thank you for prompting this incredible long spill of rambling. I'm sorry. I love you. thanks very much. <3

The Mage Did It (Probably) pt. 3
Double/late update because I was traveling, apparently can't read a calendar, use the schedule post function right. Editing is.. editing. I can't promise this is perfect here guys. Also, yes, Tyrus is who we blame for anything. ~ Gigabyte ---
Looking at the ducks in formation, Catherine frowned. Starting with magic right away was not ideal, but she didn’t see any other way around it. Mumbling a few words under her breath that sounded strangely close to fae Gaelic’s ancient roots, she focused on what little magic she could grasp at on the ducks. Magical symbols appeared etched into the rubber and glowed a bright blue before each duck exploded with a pop into non-existence. Satisfied, she walked forward, her path now clear, and took a seat next to Tyrus. “You know, ducks are a new low for you.”
Tyrus took another sip of his drink and glanced over, unimpressed. “You missed out on the flamingos last week.” He slurred his words together. “Been a few years since I’ve seen you. If you’re here to yell at me, get it over with. But this is an unseen bar, so I’m not doing anything illegal.” Distasteful, sure, but not illegal. “Travis?” He asked, waving down the bartender for another drink. “You transfigured all the ice into ducks,” the bartender told him, and went back to his job.
“Well excuse me, I wasn’t here last week.” Catherine stated. Flamingos would have been easier to deal with than his insane rubber duck army. “Warden Price told me that this was where I could find you.” She said. Pickled and transfiguring random bits and pieces into rubber ducks, flamingos, or anything else his alcohol addled brain came up with. “And for the record, I’m not here to yell at you. I have a job for you.” Catherine added. The alcoholism was going to be a challenge to deal with. Molly, Xiaolian, and Maria’s brands of chaos were going to be bad enough. Catherine didn’t want to add an alcoholic mage to the mix as well. “You can take it, or I can leave you here drowning your sorrows and feeling sorry for yourself. Your choice, Rahal.”
“Careful calling me that. It pisses the parents off.” He said and sat up more fully before pulling out a purple sobering potion and downing it. “Travis, can I just get some water? The potion doesn’t account for dehydration.” He asked. He was not all that thrilled to be sober, having been enjoying the buzz from the alcohol. But he also knew he was the most expensive consultant on call, and they had yet to waste his time. “What’s the job, Catherine?”
As is typical with AIB investigations, the details were kept confidential. The team was decimated, leaving only the injured warden. The cause was undisclosed.
“I don’t give a flying fuck what your parents think.” Catherine pointed out. She had spent this long flying under everyone’s radar. She intended to continue to do so. Her allegiances and loyalties outside of AIB were really nobody’s business, and she wasn’t about to share her entire life story with people she barely knew. “La Lechuza.” She said, “We have New York and Hong Kong’s space-time specialists, and a new academy grad. I just figured we’d add to team fuck up, you know?” Not that anyone really knew where she’d disappeared to for the last couple of years. The Council had been keeping quiet on that one. Instead, here she was again, suddenly, hair shocked completely white, thinner, and wearing glasses. “This is only if you’re interested, however.” Catherine emphasized.
He stretched and considered it. “La Lechuza, huh? You’ll need ranged spells for her.” He stood, amused, and downed the water the bartender had brought him, then gave a slight smile. “Sure. It’ll give me a break from the court’s research, and I could use a good fight. How the hell did a new academy graduate end up on team fuck up, though?” There was no way a fresh graduate could have pissed off the Council that much already.
“She volunteered.” Catherine deadpanned. Maria was just as insane, if not more so for even volunteering. “Spells, yes, but we need to know the specifics. It took out an entire team of specialists.” She clarified. Most of them, she had suspected, were human or very close to, which might have been why the Council had put together such an unusual team. Humans sat on the magical power or Orphic scale, at about a 3 max, whereas other members of the unseen could wield twice that. There were rumors of possibly individuals past a 6 on the scale, but they were just rumors and myths that no one really cared enough about to confirm either way. “Who the hell volunteers for Dallas? Have you sent her to a psychiatrist yet?” Choosing Dallas was the height of insanity. “I’ll dig out all the specifics tonight and have something ready for you tomorrow, probably around noon.” He offered, still shocked at the idea of someone volunteering to be a Dallas Specialist. “That’ll be shortly after I wake up, anyway. I’m pretty sure I know where in my library that information is. Good luck dealing with at least one insane team member. I still have your number from the last case we were on together, so I’ll call you there to confirm I have everything tomorrow.”
He headed out the door, already in a better mood, since he had something actually worthwhile to do and a decent fight to look forward to. Or at least it better be a decent fight.
Catherine didn’t know who in their right mind would volunteer for Dallas, but Tyrus may have had a point. “We’re all insane and we’re fucked.” She said to herself more than anyone else as she left. The sooner she got out of the bar, the better. The good news was she had convinced Tyrus to assist them. The bad news was it had been almost too easy.

Study finds health risks in switching ships from diesel to ammonia fuel
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/study-finds-health-risks-in-switching-ships-from-diesel-to-ammonia-fuel/
Study finds health risks in switching ships from diesel to ammonia fuel
As container ships the size of city blocks cross the oceans to deliver cargo, their huge diesel engines emit large quantities of air pollutants that drive climate change and have human health impacts. It has been estimated that maritime shipping accounts for almost 3 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions and the industry’s negative impacts on air quality cause about 100,000 premature deaths each year.
Decarbonizing shipping to reduce these detrimental effects is a goal of the International Maritime Organization, a U.N. agency that regulates maritime transport. One potential solution is switching the global fleet from fossil fuels to sustainable fuels such as ammonia, which could be nearly carbon-free when considering its production and use.
But in a new study, an interdisciplinary team of researchers from MIT and elsewhere caution that burning ammonia for maritime fuel could worsen air quality further and lead to devastating public health impacts, unless it is adopted alongside strengthened emissions regulations.
Ammonia combustion generates nitrous oxide (N2O), a greenhouse gas that is about 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide. It also emits nitrogen in the form of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2, referred to as NOx), and unburnt ammonia may slip out, which eventually forms fine particulate matter in the atmosphere. These tiny particles can be inhaled deep into the lungs, causing health problems like heart attacks, strokes, and asthma.
The new study indicates that, under current legislation, switching the global fleet to ammonia fuel could cause up to about 600,000 additional premature deaths each year. However, with stronger regulations and cleaner engine technology, the switch could lead to about 66,000 fewer premature deaths than currently caused by maritime shipping emissions, with far less impact on global warming.
“Not all climate solutions are created equal. There is almost always some price to pay. We have to take a more holistic approach and consider all the costs and benefits of different climate solutions, rather than just their potential to decarbonize,” says Anthony Wong, a postdoc in the MIT Center for Global Change Science and lead author of the study.
His co-authors include Noelle Selin, an MIT professor in the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society and the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS); Sebastian Eastham, a former principal research scientist who is now a senior lecturer at Imperial College London; Christine Mounaïm-Rouselle, a professor at the University of Orléans in France; Yiqi Zhang, a researcher at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and Florian Allroggen, a research scientist in the MIT Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The research appears this week in Environmental Research Letters.
Greener, cleaner ammonia
Traditionally, ammonia is made by stripping hydrogen from natural gas and then combining it with nitrogen at extremely high temperatures. This process is often associated with a large carbon footprint. The maritime shipping industry is betting on the development of “green ammonia,” which is produced by using renewable energy to make hydrogen via electrolysis and to generate heat.
“In theory, if you are burning green ammonia in a ship engine, the carbon emissions are almost zero,” Wong says.
But even the greenest ammonia generates nitrous oxide (N2O), nitrogen oxides (NOx) when combusted, and some of the ammonia may slip out, unburnt. This nitrous oxide would escape into the atmosphere, where the greenhouse gas would remain for more than 100 years. At the same time, the nitrogen emitted as NOx and ammonia would fall to Earth, damaging fragile ecosystems. As these emissions are digested by bacteria, additional N2O is produced.
NOx and ammonia also mix with gases in the air to form fine particulate matter. A primary contributor to air pollution, fine particulate matter kills an estimated 4 million people each year.
“Saying that ammonia is a ‘clean’ fuel is a bit of an overstretch. Just because it is carbon-free doesn’t necessarily mean it is clean and good for public health,” Wong says.
A multifaceted model
The researchers wanted to paint the whole picture, capturing the environmental and public health impacts of switching the global fleet to ammonia fuel. To do so, they designed scenarios to measure how pollutant impacts change under certain technology and policy assumptions.
From a technological point of view, they considered two ship engines. The first burns pure ammonia, which generates higher levels of unburnt ammonia but emits fewer nitrogen oxides. The second engine technology involves mixing ammonia with hydrogen to improve combustion and optimize the performance of a catalytic converter, which controls both nitrogen oxides and unburnt ammonia pollution.
They also considered three policy scenarios: current regulations, which only limit NOx emissions in some parts of the world; a scenario that adds ammonia emission limits over North America and Western Europe; and a scenario that adds global limits on ammonia and NOx emissions.
The researchers used a ship track model to calculate how pollutant emissions change under each scenario and then fed the results into an air quality model. The air quality model calculates the impact of ship emissions on particulate matter and ozone pollution. Finally, they estimated the effects on global public health.
One of the biggest challenges came from a lack of real-world data, since no ammonia-powered ships are yet sailing the seas. Instead, the researchers relied on experimental ammonia combustion data from collaborators to build their model.
“We had to come up with some clever ways to make that data useful and informative to both the technology and regulatory situations,” he says.
A range of outcomes
In the end, they found that with no new regulations and ship engines that burn pure ammonia, switching the entire fleet would cause 681,000 additional premature deaths each year.
“While a scenario with no new regulations is not very realistic, it serves as a good warning of how dangerous ammonia emissions could be. And unlike NOx, ammonia emissions from shipping are currently unregulated,” Wong says.
However, even without new regulations, using cleaner engine technology would cut the number of premature deaths down to about 80,000, which is about 20,000 fewer than are currently attributed to maritime shipping emissions. With stronger global regulations and cleaner engine technology, the number of people killed by air pollution from shipping could be reduced by about 66,000.
“The results of this study show the importance of developing policies alongside new technologies,” Selin says. “There is a potential for ammonia in shipping to be beneficial for both climate and air quality, but that requires that regulations be designed to address the entire range of potential impacts, including both climate and air quality.”
Ammonia’s air quality impacts would not be felt uniformly across the globe, and addressing them fully would require coordinated strategies across very different contexts. Most premature deaths would occur in East Asia, since air quality regulations are less stringent in this region. Higher levels of existing air pollution cause the formation of more particulate matter from ammonia emissions. In addition, shipping volume over East Asia is far greater than elsewhere on Earth, compounding these negative effects.
In the future, the researchers want to continue refining their analysis. They hope to use these findings as a starting point to urge the marine industry to share engine data they can use to better evaluate air quality and climate impacts. They also hope to inform policymakers about the importance and urgency of updating shipping emission regulations.
This research was funded by the MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium.

What would Nintendo have to do to get you to bootlick them?
This is a very weird question.
I dunno man...
Confess about Joycon Drift, offer everyone free replacements with an updated model instead of just fixing the controllers without removing drift?
Make every game they release on NSO purchasable individually with a 100% garuntee that it will be available on future consoles as long as you use your Nintendo account? And on that note they could start releasing Gamecube and Wii games as is instead of waiting for the chance to make a 60 dollar remake.
Start allowing their first party games to get discounted more often and maybe lower the prices of their smaller scale games, I don't care how pretty Link's Awakening remake was, it is not a 60 dollar game, nor is Mario vs Donkey Kong.
Make Pokemon Home free with NSO, also intervene with Gamefreak so that Pokemon becomes a series known for quality instead of how many of their creatures make good dolls?
Embrace the fan game community instead of rejecting it and only shut them down if they're trying to make money?
Stop shutting down emulation websites and instead try to actually compete with emulation by making better emulators with more features? Unlikely but maybe they could offer mod support for retro games like Steam Does? Pretty sure even Sega does this with their Genesis roms dumped on Steam.
Even all these things might not be enough because I don't really like just being a blind consumer who is incapable of criticizing something they like. And I'm probably not even covering all the things they've done wrong here, just the ones can think of at the moment.

A week after the Moscow Exchange was hit by U.S. sanctions, the ruble is experiencing unusual swings. In just two days, from June 18 to June 20, the dollar’s official exchange rate against the ruble dropped from 89 to 82.6 rubles, while the euro fell from 95.4 to 89 rubles. However, the very next day, Russia’s Central Bank raised the dollar exchange rate by nearly three rubles to 85.4, and the euro to 91.4 rubles. Meduza breaks down the factors behind this volatility and explains how to track the ruble’s fluctuations going forward.
On June 12, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Russia’s largest stock exchange, the Moscow Exchange (MOEX), and its subsidiaries, the National Clearing Center and the National Settlement Depository — effectively cutting off the Moscow Exchange from the dollar. That same day, the exchange announced that it would halt trading in the U.S. dollar and the euro, starting June 13. (Trading in the Hong Kong dollar also stopped.)
As a result, currency trading shifted to the over-the-counter (OTC) market. Even before the sanctions, 60 percent of currency transactions in Russia occurred off-exchange. Importers and exporters, the primary players on the Moscow Exchange, had the most influence on the ruble’s exchange rate in recent years. Now, they’ve also had to transition to the OTC market, leading to higher costs for buying and selling currency, as well as increased volatility in the ruble’s exchange rate.
These sanctions against the Moscow Exchange are another step towards making the ruble non-convertible and a new blow to importers and exporters, noted Alexander Kolyandr, a non-resident senior fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), in a column for The Bell.
A faux phoenix
The sharp fluctuations in the ruble’s exchange rate this week are the direct result of U.S. sanctions, which have caused demand for foreign currency to drop. This, in turn, has driven up the ruble.
U.S. sanctions have already been impeding Russian imports, with fewer and fewer banks in China, India, and Turkey offering their services to Russian companies out of fear of secondary sanctions. According to SberCIB analysts, imports in May were about 30 percent lower than they could have been with a normally functioning payment infrastructure. The Central Bank also noted that the expected seasonal spring increase in imports didn’t occur.
Now, this payment issue has been compounded by the sanctions against the Moscow Exchange. The halt in trading of the dollar and euro could affect at least 22 percent of imports, estimated Pavel Biryukov, an economist at Gazprombank. Promsvyazbank analysts believe that the new restrictions could reduce foreign goods deliveries by 15-20 percent.
Meanwhile, exporters continue to sell foreign currency earnings in compliance with a mandatory decree. Each day, the Central Bank sells yuan worth 8.1 billion rubles (over $90 billion) as part of budgetary operations, and exports and the current account surplus remain strong thanks to high prices for oil and other raw materials, Mikhail Vasilyev, the chief analyst at Sovcombank, told Vedomosti.
The Central Bank confirmed this. According to its preliminary data, the surplus in the foreign trade balance of goods from January to May increased to $56 billion, up from $47.6 billion in the same period last year, “due to a more significant drop in imports compared to exports.”
This situation is reminiscent of 2022, when the ruble sharply appreciated due to the withdrawal of foreign companies and the collapse of imports. “In fact, we’re now seeing a classic situation with a pool and two pipes: currency flows into the country in a stable stream through one pipe, and almost none flows out through the other,” explained Alexander Potavin, an analyst at the Finam financial group. According to him, this has led to an “unwanted strengthening of the ruble for the government.”
At the same time, sanctions against the Moscow Exchange are also impacting exporters. The sharp appreciation of the ruble may be due to their reluctance to sell currency at an unfavorable rate. On June 20, Reuters, citing market participants, reported a sharp decline in the sale of export earnings in yuan. The outlet’s sources believe this is because corporate sellers are unwilling to sell at a low rate. It’s also likely that the Russian authorities intervened: the Kremlin might have persuaded exporters to hold on to the currency to prevent the ruble from strengthening too much.
The ruble runaround
Before the U.S. imposed sanctions on the Moscow Exchange, Russia’s Central Bank set the official ruble exchange rate based on currency trading on the exchange. This rate could be tracked in real time on the exchange’s website.
Now that dollars are no longer traded on the exchange, the Central Bank is determining the rate of the U.S. currency against the ruble based on bank reports and information from over-the-counter trades as of 3:30 p.m. Moscow time on the current business day. (This rate is then published at 4:00 p.m. Moscow time.)
There’s nothing unusual about this method of determining the exchange rate, noted Alexandra Prokopenko, a non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center and co-host of Meduza’s Russian-language podcast View of the Kremlin:
In general, exchange-based currency trading is fairly rare in the modern world. Most currency transactions take place on the interbank over-the-counter market, where participants report to the regulator. The regulator then determines the exchange rate based on these reports. Now, the same thing will happen in Russia.
The absence of trading in dollars and euros on the exchange has also created another problem: investors and ordinary citizens lack a reference point throughout the day. The Central Bank sets the official rate once a day, but with the current level of volatility, actual values can change significantly.
One way to estimate the ruble’s rate against foreign currencies is through the yuan, which is still traded on the Moscow Exchange. Using the yuan-to-ruble exchange rate, the ruble’s value against other currencies can be calculated using data from foreign central banks. Generally, the stronger the ruble is against the yuan, the stronger it will be against other currencies.
According to the Central Bank, the Chinese currency accounted for 54 percent of trading on the Moscow Exchange in May, making it the “primary currency in exchange trading.” “The yuan/ruble exchange rate will set the trajectory for other currency pairs and serve as a benchmark for market participants,” the bank said.
Non-deliverable forward contracts for dollars and euros are also still traded on MOEX and can also serve as indicators of the ruble’s value against Western currencies. Additionally, dollar futures contracts can be used to track the ruble’s exchange rate, although their prices have always differed slightly from the actual dollar-to-ruble exchange rate, Natalia Pyryeva, an analyst at the Moscow-based investment company Tsifra Broker, told Forbes. Contracts with earlier settlement dates provide a more accurate picture, explained Vladimir Bragin, head of research at Alfa Capital, as those with later dates are less liquid and may not accurately reflect current market conditions.
Although it’s possible to track the ruble’s current value through futures contracts and the yuan exchange rate, there’s no guarantee that Russians will actually be able to buy currency at these rates. The final price is now set by the seller and the platform where the transaction occurs.
Previously, the Moscow Exchange guaranteed that buying and selling dollars and euros was transparent and safe. Now, sellers can essentially set their own prices. As a result, the cost of exchanging currency — the spread between buying and selling rates — has increased, and these rates must be constantly checked. Additionally, the currency might not even be available at a given location. In the first few days following the new U.S. sanctions, many bank branches visited by journalists didn’t have any physical dollars or euros.

In 2022, Russia has redirected a significant portion of its energy exports to China and India.
Countries that have scaled back their trade with Russia most drastically include the U.S., the UK, Japan and Singapore. Germany continues to be the source of a large share of Russia’s imports despite significant reductions.
Sanctions have significantly reduced the trade between Russia and the US. By October 2022, Russia’s exports to the US had fallen by almost 50% compared to 2021. During the same period, US exports to Russia declined by $2.5 bln compared to the previous year.
The sanctions regime, closely coordinated by the US and EU, was able to disrupt the Kremlin’s direct access to western technology in the short term.
Russia established alternative routes fairly quickly with imports of dual-use and controlled commodities now exceeding pre-war levels.
Evasion routes can be detected with macro-data analysis, for example, by correlating the chronology of relevant events (e.g., the onset of Russia’s military assault on Ukraine in late February 2022, the western imposition of sanctions) with significant shifts in goods’ origin, volume supplied by trading partner, and their position as share of overall trade with Russia by each respective partner.
Our data shows that countries most actively facilitating circumvention of wartime sanctions by Russia include: China, Turkey, Cyprus and the UAE.
In 2022, China became Russia’s most important trade partner, receiving about 20% of Russia’s total exports and serving as the source of 35% of Russia’s total imports.
US sanctions have resulted in a significant decline in the monetary value of global transactions by designated Russian companies, but did not eliminate them.
Sanctions have not stopped Russia’s import of controlled and dual use high tech goods critical to its ability to wage war on Ukraine, such as UAV/parts and microprocessors/semiconductors.
UAV deliveries continued to Russia as late as November and December from UAE, Hong Kong, China, and Singapore.
Russia’s imports of microprocessors/semiconductors increased from $1.82 bln in 2021 to $2.45 bln in 2022 (for the year as a whole).
China has become Russia’s most important source of semiconductors and integrated circuits. In 2022, China, Hong Kong, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland led by dollar value of microchip sales to Russia; China, Hong Kong, Estonia, Turkey and Germany led by the number of transactions.
Despite sanctions, in 2022, Russia hit its highest current account surplus in history. The surplus in 2022 reached $227 billion, more than twice the previous record ($122 billion in 2021).
Russia has retained its access to vast amounts of foreign exchange, which has been critical to its ability to continue its war on Ukraine.
Sanctions have resulted in a 16% contraction of Russia’s imports in 2022 for the year as a whole.
The significant 35% contraction in the first few months of the war was followed by a recovery that we expect to be sustained in 2023.
Russia’s total exports increased by more than 30% between January-September 2022 over the corresponding period in 2021, driven mostly by oil and gas exports.
Since the start of the war, foreigners have paid Russia $190 bn for oil exports or $225 billion in the entirety of 2022 (comprising 11% of Russia’s GDP).
The delay in the EU embargo implementation and the G-7 price cap has weakened the effect of the EU embargo. For now, even data on Russian oil prices is limited. However, it appears Russian oil is selling already below the current price cap of $60

Industry trend|MINISO, which launches 100 new products every 7 days, uses RFID to identify best-selling items
As a successful representative of IP retail, Pop Mart has launched a large number of trendy toys with IP elements through cooperation with many well-known IPs, which are deeply loved by consumers. Its success lies not only in product innovation and design, but also in the precise selection and in-depth exploration of IPs. In 2023, Pop Mart achieved revenue of 6.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 36.5%; adjusted net profit of 1.19 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 107.6%, and 10 IPs with sales of over 100 million yuan, including classic IPs such as SKULLPANDA, MOLLY, DIMOO, and new IPs such as Hirono Ono.
In 2024, Pop Mart's performance continued to grow rapidly, which also stimulated its stock price to double several times, and it was far ahead in Hong Kong stocks.
On the other hand, MINISO is also working hard to enter this track. MINISO has cooperated with more than 150 world-renowned IPs such as Harry Potter, Disney, and Sanrio, and has incubated its own IPs such as PENPEN and DUN. Its IP co-branded product sales account for more than 30%, and its brand positioning has been successfully upgraded from the previous affordable grocery store to the "global IP co-branded collection store". In addition, MINISO is also actively expanding new retail formats such as MINISO LAND to further promote the development of IP retail business.
In the fierce market competition, continuous innovation and iteration are the key to maintaining competitiveness. Enterprises need to pay close attention to market trends and changes in consumer demand, and constantly adjust and optimize product design and marketing strategies. MINISO has won wide favor from consumers with its unique supply chain strategy and efficient product update speed. As a retail brand with "quality and creativity" as its core competitiveness, MINISO continues to bring freshness and surprises to consumers by launching 100 new SKUs every 7 days. However, behind such a high frequency of new products, how to accurately screen which products sell well and which need to adjust strategies has become a key issue. Therefore, MINISO recently announced a cooperation with Cinda IoT to introduce RFID technology to improve store precision marketing and operational efficiency.
RFID technology automatically identifies target objects and transmits data through radio waves, achieving efficient and accurate information collection and processing without human intervention. In the retail industry, RFID technology has become an important tool for improving operational efficiency and optimizing customer experience with its non-contact, long-distance, and fast reading characteristics. In particular, RFID technology plays an irreplaceable role in inventory management, product tracking, customer experience, and precision marketing.
RFID technology provides a unique identity for each product, making every link from production to sales traceable. MINISO can use RFID technology to track the flow of goods in the supply chain and understand the sales of goods in different stores and at different time periods. Through in-depth analysis of these data, MINISO can accurately determine which products are selling well and which products need to be improved or eliminated. This data-based decision-making method has greatly improved MINISO's product update speed and market responsiveness.
RFID technology can also collect customer shopping behavior data in real time, providing MINISO with valuable market insights. Through in-depth analysis of these data, MINISO can understand customer needs, preferences and shopping habits, and then formulate more accurate marketing strategies and product combination plans. For example, MINISO can use RFID technology to achieve personalized recommendations, and recommend new products or promotional products that meet the needs of customers based on their shopping history and preferences. This precision marketing method not only improves marketing effectiveness, but also enhances customers' shopping experience and loyalty. For example, the vice president of Decathlon China, the director of retail operations, said that by introducing RFID, Decathlon achieved a 5% sales increase.
It also promotes the intelligentization of MINISO's inventory management
For fast-moving consumer goods brands like MINISO, inventory management is crucial. Traditional retail inventory management relies on manual counting, which is inefficient and error-prone. RFID technology, by attaching RFID tags to goods, enables real-time monitoring and dynamic management of inventory. MINISO can use RFID technology to quickly and accurately grasp the inventory quantity, location and status, adjust inventory strategies in a timely manner, reduce inventory costs, and improve operational efficiency. At the same time, RFID technology can also help MINISO quickly identify slow-selling and hot-selling goods, provide data support for product strategy adjustments, and control inventory levels.
In conclusion
Thanks to the promotion of RFID to retailers in many aspects, more and more retail giants have begun to introduce RFID, and many companies have achieved good results. With the continuous maturity of RFID technology and the continuous expansion of application scenarios, MINISO can further explore the application potential of RFID technology in supply chain management, inventory management, product tracking, customer experience and precision marketing. For example, MINISO can use RFID technology to deploy a self-service checkout system like UNIQLO. Customers only need to put the selected goods into the self-service checkout machine, and the system can automatically identify the product information and calculate the total price, which greatly shortens the checkout time, improves the convenience of shopping, and saves labor costs.
In the future, more and more retailers will choose RFID, and the earlier they apply RFID, the sooner they will benefit and widen the gap with their peers.

Experience Gaming in Style with Steam Deck OLED White Limited Edition
Steam Deck OLED White Limited Edition officially releases the Linux gaming handheld. Thanks to Valve for making this happen. You can check out the Steam page for details and to order. Valve has finally delivered on a long-standing tease—introducing the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White. Nearly three years after hinting at a sleek white version of the popular handheld gaming PC, its a reality. And as of now, it releases worldwide, Linux gaming ready. So you can get this exclusive design. So, what’s different about this model? As the name suggests, the biggest change is the white color scheme, paired with classy grey trim. It’s a sharp departure from the traditional black version, giving the handheld a clean and modern vibe. This limited edition also includes a matching white carrying case and a white microfiber cleaning cloth to keep your Deck looking fresh. And don’t miss our list of must-have accessories to level up your setup. Other than the new look, the Limited Edition White model is the same as the standard Steam Deck OLED 1TB in terms of performance and storage. It has that stunning OLED screen, a smooth gamplay experience, and enough storage to handle your favorite titles. However, there’s a slight price bump—the white model is priced at $679 USD in the U.S., which is $30 more than its black counterpart. In other regions, prices are also slightly higher, reflecting about a 5% increase.
Steam Deck OLED White Limited Edition
This new colorway isn’t just for U.S. gamers. It’s available in all Steam Deck shipping regions, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong via Komodo. For gamers in Australia, the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White model ships now, November 19th. Alongside other models. Now here’s the catch: the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White is only being made in certain quantities. So, to give everyone a fair shot, Valve is limiting purchases to one per account. And your account must have made a Steam purchase before November 2024. If you’re serious about buying one, you’ll want to act fast—once they sell out, that’s it. Valve won’t be making more of this design. While the new white edition is undeniably great, some Linux gaming fans might still lean toward competitors like the Asus ROG Ally X, running Bazzite. Doing so for its slightly better performance and battery life. But if you’re already a fan of the Steam Deck ecosystem and like the idea of owning a rare piece of Valve hardware, the Limited Edition White is a no-brainer. So, whether you’re a collector or just want your handheld to stand out in style, the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White release is a bold, eye-catching choice. Don’t wait too long—this is a one-time drop, and they’ll sell out on Steam before you know it!

Bitcoin Behemoth Resurfaces After Dormant 12.4 Years
Key Points
A Bitcoin whale, dormant for 12.4 years, has performed transactions with 400 BTC.
The whale’s transactions, valued at approximately $27 million, have sparked speculation within the crypto community.
A Bitcoin whale who had been inactive for over a decade has re-emerged, causing ripples in the cryptocurrency world. Whale Alert reported that a wallet containing 400 Bitcoin (BTC) has conducted transactions after 12.4 years of inactivity. This has led to widespread speculation regarding the reasons behind such a considerable move.
Substantial Profit for Bitcoin Whale
This early Bitcoin investor, last seen in action in 2012, moved a portion of their coins to two new addresses. One transaction saw the transfer of 300 BTC, equivalent to roughly $20.4 million. The second transaction involved moving 100 BTC, valued at approximately $7.2 million.
The total value of the 400 BTC transferred from the dormant account is approximately $27 million. In 2012, Bitcoin was trading at $2,149. Comparing this to its current value indicates a potential profit of around $60 million.
The Bitcoin, worth about $27.2 million, was mined in 2012 when Bitcoin mining was relatively straightforward. The emergence of this whale has led to questions about other potential dormant Bitcoin holders. Such moves are often seen as a sign of market turbulence, indicating a potential sell-off and increased pressure. It also serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the crypto market.
Despite these significant transfers, the overall market has remained relatively stable, with Bitcoin maintaining a trading price exceeding $68,000. This stability suggests a cautious approach among investors, who are waiting for further developments before making significant market changes.
At the time of reporting, the price of BTC was trading at $68,642, up 1.5% in the past 24 hours. However, the trading volume decreased by 10.7% within the same timeframe to $30.4 billion. This drop indicates investors’ reluctance to purchase the leading cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin’s Technical Analysis
According to technical analysis, Bitcoin must consistently close above the $68,000 support in the upcoming days to achieve bullish momentum. Bitcoin’s next significant target is $72,000 to have a chance to regain its all-time high achieved earlier this year.
Crypto analyst ZAYK Charts suggests that Bitcoin is on the brink of a 31 percent spike to $85,000. The analyst based his prediction on Bitcoin’s breakout from a bullish flag. Amid this, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) has proposed investing in Bitcoin, with shareholders expected to vote in December.
Moreover, Japanese financial and crypto firms are urging regulators to approve Bitcoin exchange-traded Funds (ETFs). They argue that Bitcoin’s long-term stability and high market caps could benefit investors’ asset-building strategies.
With Bitcoin ETFs available to investors in the United States, Australia, and Hong Kong, Japanese investors believe this product can provide more exposure to new financial products overall.
