I put Bazzite on the Legion Go. Bazzite is pretty interesting, basically SteamOS for more devices, desktops, handhelds, whatever. Uses a lot of cool technologies together, it's based on Atomic Fedora for reliability and rollback which is neat but it's also shipped as a bootable OCI container, which is a thing I didn't know existed! Really slick experience.

Steam desktop input with the controller can be beaten into something very usable with a little effort, and combined with KDE connect you can get a really pleasant TV PC desktop experience inside KDE Plasma. I love having TV YouTube with solid adblock. Also KDE connect lets you shoot links over to Firefox from your phone.

Ages ago I said that the Steam Deck seemed like an ideal HTPC platform since a) it'll be a solid media-optimized, couch-optimized, appliance-like computer, b) has a lot more oomph than like an Intel nuc without needing to be inconvenient via being huge or a laptop and c) eases some of the cost pain of an HTPC by having an additional use. And it is, this is lovely, and it's fast enough to more than get out of its own way playing video, and run some light couch games locally at 1080p60 which is plenty here. You could also stream from a PC for heavier games I guess.
Next steps includes designing a dock for this so I can slot it in reliably and easily, and also working out how to integrate an Atomic system into my home network share reliably.

so i installed bazzite, a form of linux, when i was like really tired 2 days ago, and i was planning on getting rid of it because i was like "nah i'm windows"
yeah safe to say that didn't happen lol
i love bazzite! i'll still keep windows for like productivity and work and all that, but for games i'm gonna use linux now i guess!
the only problems i have faced so far:
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller seem to not like pairing.
Running Hypnospace Outlaw using Steam Proton kicks my wireless headphones into a lower bitrate mode that only affects that window??? weird
I have to completely "forget" and then re-pair my wireless headphones every time I switch between Windows and Bazzite.
i still love the hell out of it tho

Some good news for people thinking about building their own Steam box / media PC:
Might see if I have enough random components around the workbench and put together a Bazzite box for couch co-op at the TV.

Experience Gaming in Style with Steam Deck OLED White Limited Edition
Tumblr media
Steam Deck OLED White Limited Edition officially releases the Linux gaming handheld. Thanks to Valve for making this happen. You can check out the Steam page for details and to order. Valve has finally delivered on a long-standing tease—introducing the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White. Nearly three years after hinting at a sleek white version of the popular handheld gaming PC, its a reality. And as of now, it releases worldwide, Linux gaming ready. So you can get this exclusive design. So, what’s different about this model? As the name suggests, the biggest change is the white color scheme, paired with classy grey trim. It’s a sharp departure from the traditional black version, giving the handheld a clean and modern vibe. This limited edition also includes a matching white carrying case and a white microfiber cleaning cloth to keep your Deck looking fresh. And don’t miss our list of must-have accessories to level up your setup. Other than the new look, the Limited Edition White model is the same as the standard Steam Deck OLED 1TB in terms of performance and storage. It has that stunning OLED screen, a smooth gamplay experience, and enough storage to handle your favorite titles. However, there’s a slight price bump—the white model is priced at $679 USD in the U.S., which is $30 more than its black counterpart. In other regions, prices are also slightly higher, reflecting about a 5% increase.
Steam Deck OLED White Limited Edition
This new colorway isn’t just for U.S. gamers. It’s available in all Steam Deck shipping regions, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong via Komodo. For gamers in Australia, the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White model ships now, November 19th. Alongside other models. Now here’s the catch: the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White is only being made in certain quantities. So, to give everyone a fair shot, Valve is limiting purchases to one per account. And your account must have made a Steam purchase before November 2024. If you’re serious about buying one, you’ll want to act fast—once they sell out, that’s it. Valve won’t be making more of this design. While the new white edition is undeniably great, some Linux gaming fans might still lean toward competitors like the Asus ROG Ally X, running Bazzite. Doing so for its slightly better performance and battery life. But if you’re already a fan of the Steam Deck ecosystem and like the idea of owning a rare piece of Valve hardware, the Limited Edition White is a no-brainer. So, whether you’re a collector or just want your handheld to stand out in style, the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition White release is a bold, eye-catching choice. Don’t wait too long—this is a one-time drop, and they’ll sell out on Steam before you know it!

Reblogging for general knowledge and of course because I have to be THAT PERSON: this is an excellent reason to take a look at Linux if you haven't already.
Mint is super easy to use, super easy to install, and compatible with most hardware right out of the box. Fedora and pop_OS are two other options that hold wide appeal and are very very stable right out of the box.
If you want something more flavored for gaming then the three best options currently are Bazzite, Garuda, and SteamOS. They all come out of the box tailored specifically for gaming and as long as your primary game doesn't require Anti-Cheat you should be able to run it without issue.
If you want something MUCH more stable and secure then Fedora Silverblue and EndlessOS are your two best options. They are what's called "Immutable", which in short means that they don't allow you to do anything that might damage the operating system inadvertently. The downside is that they're usually about two steps behind because they favor stability over bleeding edge.
The truth is: Microsoft will not stop here, Copilot will continue to be pushed in new and creative ways, so if you don't want to continue to fight a losing battle it might be time to just switch tactics and leave the field entirely. Just my $0.02

yes it's fully functional too, there's the application menu, currently open tasks, clock, uhhh no money thing though no real need for it, and then the shutdown options
and since i set it as a panel, it hides behind windows when i need it to

Okay so I finally switched to Linux full-time again, we’ll see how this goes. With Valve and the Steam Deck making Linux gaming increasingly more mainstream and supported, the thought of it made me more interested in making it work again.
First time with an RPM-based distro (Fedora 42 - yes went on the testing branch because KDE is getting promoted to official edition status by this version), then Bazzite-deck on my Steam Deck (so I can get Plasma 6 🤩) so I can do the occasional rpm-ostree layering (not that I needed it much).
TS2 (using the new repack 🏴‍☠️) is set up, TS4 (with all the packs 🏴‍☠️) is set up, most of my other stuff is set up. Reshade is working on TS4, TS2 Reshade still a WIP but I might actually not need it
Will see if I can get Photoshop or at the very least my Affinity apps working. If not, I’ll get another NVMe and install Windows 11 there.
