This Week in BL - new entries upset the rankings
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
April 2024 Wk 2
Ongoing Series - Thai
City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 11 of 12 - Like most Thai BL pulps, this show doesn’t have much story to it. But I'm discovering that what it does have I actually really enjoy. I love that the gay boys got to play matchmaker for a change and I like how just GAY they are. It's nice. Refreshing.
We Are (Weds GMMTV iQIYI) ep 1-2 of 16 - University ensemble BL featuring PondPhuwin, WinnySatang, AouBoom, MarcPawinPoon. I like it. It’s old school Thai BL, but having fun with itself and its tropes. I’m not expecting much, so I don’t mind it waffling. All the couples are comfy. Chemistry is okay. Friendships are nifty. I like Pond's floppy hair. We fine.
Two Worlds (Thurs IQIYI) ep 5 of 10 - What an extremely bloody episode. And bad guy turned out to be very bad indeed. And now pretty much everyone is dead. Nice kiss. Of course.
Deep Night (Thurs iQiyi) ep 6 of 8 - It’s cute, they happy, not a ton happened. Random gratuitous bathing. As you do in BL. And I still think the sides should just end up in a thrupple
Only Boo! (Sun YouTube) ep 2 of 12 - Oh they very cute. Also very silly.
1000 Years Old (Thurs iQIYI) ep 9 of 12 - No. NOT THE GUITAR. YES abandon guitar for the sniff test! Love this for them. And me. My most favorite trope defeated my least favorite trope. VICTORY!!!
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Unknown (Taiwan Tues YouTube & Viki) ep 8 of 11 - It’s just so good. Baby went away, grew up, and learned how to become a temptation... and a husband.
Gray Shelter AKA Gray Currents (Korea Thurs iQIYI) 1 of 5 eps - SooHyuk, only just surviving, reunites with YoonDae, his (brief) younger stepbrother who feels abandoned. They end up living together. The younger brother is played by Lee Jae Bin of Choco Milk Shake. OMG. STEPBROTHERS TROPE. Lucky me! Two in one season. Yay!!!! It's Korea so great visuals too. I shallow but yeah, this is great.
Living With Him AKA Kare no Iru Seikatsu (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - Kindly Ryota goes off to uni only to find his new roommate is his childhood bestie, Kazuhito. Kazuhito doesn’t have a girlfriend and Ryota tries to help him figure out why. Same director as Old Fashion Cupcake. It’s utterly charming. I am charmed. Also the framing is gorgeous (of course). Very stylish.
Love is Better the Second Time Around AKA Koi wo Suru nara Nidome ga Joto (Japan Weds Gaga) ep 6fin - I don’t know. Kind of a flat ending with the leads apart for most of it. I enjoyed this show but it never really hit with me.
Summation
After a teen betrayal and resulting separation a reporter reunites with his first love. That love wants him back. I enjoyed the authenticity of a reunion romance explored in Japan's quintessentially contemplative yet surreal way. The juxtaposition of the tenderness of the sex scenes with this Japanese style of authenticity was oddly elegant but all in all this still fell a little flat for me. There's nothing objectively wrong with it, but in total the narrative felt sluggish and the main couple were just... stiff (in the wrong way). Frankly, I'd rather just rewatch Tokyo in April is. 8/10
Love is like a Cat (Korea Mon Viki) eps 3-4 of 12 - What is going on with this show? No, I get the plot. I just don't get the show or why I’m watching it. Annoying.
It's done, but I suck
What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps
To Be Continued (Sat C3 Thailand grey) ep 7-8fin - I can't for the life of me find the final 2 episodes. Haven't had a real hunt, but yeah. No dice so far.
It's airing but...
Takumi-kun Series 6: Nagai Nagai Monogatari (Japan Furritsubs) eps 1-? of 10 - I may wait and binge it.
Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school. Not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing.
Kiseki Chapter 2 (Sun iQIYI) 6 eps - It’s so boring DNFed at 2.
Close Friend Season 3: Soju Bomb! (Weds iQIYI) 6 - The problem with situational comedy BL is it must be situational, comedic and a BL. This show gets 1 of 3 claims correct. 33% is not a passing grade. Dropped at 3.
Memory in the Letter (Thai WeTV) - only 4 eps, tell me if I should bother?
Next Week Looks Like This:
4/18 At 25:00 in Alaska AKA 25 Ji Akasaka de (Japan Thurs Gaga) 10 eps - Yuki lands his first starring role in a BL drama alongside superstar Asami (previously his senior at uni). Said superstar suggests they form a sham relationship until filming concludes. As they actually begin to fall in love, the spotlight begins to burn. I think I've seen this before (joke) and also the trailer doesn't inspire confidence.
Still to Come in April
4/25 Boys Be Brave! AKA Roommates (Korea Thurs Viki) 8 eps - Trailer Jung Ki Sub is Kim Jin Woo's slacker friend - and secret crush. So when Ki Sub crashes at his place, his heart tingles to be near him everyday. But as the short stay turns into permanent mooch, how long can Jin Woo keep his true feelings under wraps and hold back from confessing?
4/26 My Stand-In (Thai iQIYI) 12 eps - adaptation of Chinese novel "Professional Body Double" by Shui Qiang Cheng. Stars Up (Lovely Writer) and Poom (Bake Me Please) directed by the same team as KP (not a recommendation IMHO - my biggest criticism of that show was the clashing directing styles). This one looks complicated, lemme try: Joe is a stuntman for famous actor Tong. Joe falls in love with Ming but Ming sees Joe as nothing more than a Tong-replacement. After learning this horrible truth, Joe dies. Joe then wakes up in the body of another man also named Joe. He manages to rebuild the same life as before—with the same people eventually re-meeting Ming. Ming wants Joe back but Joe doesn't understand why. But Ming seems to know what's going on and wants to give him some kind of explanation.
I'm exhausted just trying to describe the plot.
Knock-Knock Boys (Thai WeTV) - 4 college friends conspire to help their friend lose his virginity. Familiar faces like Seng (yes, Billy's previous pairing) and Best, news here. But will it actually air this month?
Upcoming BLs for 2024 are listed here. This list is not kept updated, so please leave a comment if you know something new or RP with additions.
NOTE: It looks like one of my personal favorites of last year Unintentional Love Story is getting a spin off!
THIS WEEK’S BEST MOMENT
Sniff test turning into a make out sesh? Please and thank you. City of Stars

Streaming services are listed by how I (usually) watch, which is with a USA based IP, and often offset by a day because time zones are a bother.

Season 3 Wrap-Up
Let’s skip the boring part. We know the routine by now, and I have a lotttt to say this time around. Thoughts on Talitha Cumi and S3 below the cut.
Talitha Cumi
My least favorite season finale so far, if I’m honest. It’s not that the stakes weren’t high enough, it’s that I was confused for a lot of this episode. I, like Mulder, have precious little patience for Cancer Man and his musings, and there were a LOT of musings in this episode. I’m going to have to read the Wikipedia plot summary for this one. Also, not enough Scully.
Season 3
My favorite season so far. I know, I know “Thanx, you’ve said that every season!” If you’ll recall, I was on the fence about season 2 being better than season 1 (Pilot my beloved) because I feared recency bias. But I feel very strongly that S3 beats out both S1 and S2 pretty handily, recency notwithstanding. Why? Because it’s fun, in a way. The first handful of episodes are less so, but as the season finds a rhythm, there are these brilliant little character moments. Skinner gains a lot of depth this season, for example, but he also has some killer one-liners that tell us he is playing this game for better or for worse.
And as for Mulder and Scully? If there is one thing these two will do, it’s talk on the phone. Those were some of my favorite details this season. The classic “it’s me,” but also the way they can’t stay off the phone in Coprophages. The way Mulder knows Scully will stay on the line to eavesdrop in Avatar. Mulder, our “ticking time-bomb of insanity” starts to show his Captain Ahab side more (hello, Grotesque???). And Scully gets to call him on it! More importantly, the moment I’ve been waiting for: they finally let Scully be so so Catholic.
This season just went crazy, I don’t know what to tell you. There are some seriously unhinged episode progressions — and I’m not even talking about the two-parters. Coprophages to Syzygy to Grotesque (just two eps before Pusher)? Quagmire to Wetwired? Stop it.
5 fave eps (now with more musing!):
Revelations - I told y’all I wanted more Catholic Scully, and this episode really delivered. I love that our skeptic is religious, however remotely. I love Scully. I love that there is this part of her which the X-Files never seem to touch — until they do.
War of the Coprophages - The way they can’t stay off the phone with each other. The way Fox Mulder just HAPPENS to be in the cockroach town during the cockroach uprising. The bug that crawls across the screen. The way Mulder is eating chocolate cake while writing his report about how he narrowly escaped an exploding shit lab. The inexplicably exotic bug he squishes without hesitation.
Pusher - Fuck all the way off. The paper that just says “Pass.” “Smile, Scully.” Russian roulette. Russian roulette!!! I don’t need to tell you all about this. You already know. Plus, there’s this deeply unwell post I already made.
Jose Chung from Outer Space - I also already posted about this one, but the TL;DR is that this sitcom fanatic loves a frame story and a series of Events Which Probably Didn’t Happen Like That.
Quagmire - I KNOW I KNOW it was between this and Wetwired. But when it comes down to it, the Captain Ahab conversation is just too fucking good. Also, I feel I should honor the memory of Queequeg, who deserved better.
5 least fave eps:
The Blessing Way - It’s not that it’s a bad ep, it’s just not for me. I’ve never been much for the metaphysical “between life and death” thing where you talk to your dead dad and he tells you to keep living. This is because my heart is made of rocks.
The List - I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t like prison eps.
Piper Maru & Apocrypha - I just got lost. Glad to see Krycek again tho!
Talitha Cumi - See above.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to buckle my seatbelt for the [REDACTED] [REDACTED] arc. Maybe I’ll also rewatch the pilot just for kicks.

The Case Study of Vanitas - Season 1 (ie eps 1-24) A mixed first-watch commentary (*fair warning, i actively dislike stuff)
-the fairy tale style introduction is such a beautiful beginning.
-favonius codex, is that you?
-what is this op, are the guys in love?
-THE AIRSHIP IS SO COOL
-BLUE MOON, AND WHITE-HAIR-GUY SEEING PARIS FOR THE FIRST TIME AS HE HOLDS ON TO VANITAS AS THEY FALL TO THE GROUND AAAHHH
-HUMAN?! VANITAS IS HUMAN?!
-wdym you'll slay him in the end, noe, i'm not prepared for an unhappy ending even though i only just met y'all
-NOE'S FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ARE SO CUTE
-oh okay, so vanitas is human with some blue vampire power
-please freakin decide if vanitas has human nails or claw-like nails 'cause atm, gloveless, he has both depending on the shot
-wtf did just happen between vanitas and jeanne? leave the woman alone.
-akira ishida could be reciting an omelet recipe and i'd still listen all riveted, but the world formula stuff is actually interesting
-every time vanitas interacts with jeanne, i want to slap him.
-lil noe-louis-domi are adorable. the noe-louis-domi ep is the one i’ve been the most interested in so far. like, even if i end up disliking the rest of the anime, this ep is peak, ep.5
-please make me like vanitas. i really want to like vanitas, but for now i'm edging towards dislike.
-ah yes, jeanne/domi is actually a ship i can get behind.
-the op is telling me i'm watching a certain kind of anime and the actual anime is telling me i'm watching an entire different thing and it annoys me
-it's nice hearing kengo kawanishi in roland's role. i haven't heard him in the slightly-deranged/overly-emotional range before.
-awww, roland is a good egg after all!
-oh i see, i do like vanitas, just not when he's being ~alluring. THAT vanitas i don't like
-i repeat, DOMI/JEANNE!
-when jeanne is tricking vanitas, and he's suspecting her but playing along, they're so cute. aw damn, she'll fall for him? blergh
-oh come on, jeanne crying and being scared over whatever's up with her is actually sad
-LET NOE/US PEER INTO YOUR FUCKING MEMORIES, VANITAS! LET US SYMPATHIZE!
-AYUMU MURASEEEEEEEE
-the vanitas and noe interactions are so damn cute.
-hold up hold up, ayumu murase's range??
-pretty sure vanitas is on a time limit or sth, right? where's your earring, vanitas darling?
-no offense but jeanne has more chemistry with chloe in their hellfire witch backstory scene than she has had with vanitas in the entire anime
-nice chloe twist!
-roland, what a good egg
-astolfo's backstory tho <3
-hold up hold up, seriously, ayumu murase's range?????
-roland and olivier though <3
-i am plagued by mikhails and mishas
-dude, misha's and vanitas' backstory >>> present story, like- the backstories are SO strong and streamlined compared to the present arcs. and i really like lady vanitas
-wait, domi's arc tho? chef's kiss
-poor noe, all of his closest people want him to be the one that kills them.
-MISHA, NOE AND VANITAS ON THE ROOF, PEAK
-aaah, i see, noe "will slay him in the end" as in the end-end, of the story, when vanitas succumbs to the book, okay. the last two eps were peak, i'm so emotionally confused. i'd gladly watch a s2. that said-
-i really don't like how romance is handled, and it's too present to just ignore. i don't find it cute, nor funny, nor romantic, nor alluring, nor particularly toxic, i just find it annoying and forced, lacking chemistry.
-i'm so confused on how i feel about vanitas. there's moments where i liked him, a lot of moments where i was neutral, but lots of others i found him incredibly annoying. but also, he's so complex, which is great, he's a well-crafted character, and you *get* it after you’ve seen these bits of his past, you come to understand him. and part of me thinks that we’re *supposed* to half-like and half-dislike him, that we’re supposed to mirror noe’s sentiments a bit, the “i don’t like you, but also i want to get to know you and to understand you and i’m never leaving your side, ever.” it’s just that for me, vanitas doesn’t have the charm or strength of character to be magnetic even when i dislike him, and i don’t know how i feel about that. i think if i didn't dislike the vanitas/jeanne approach so much, i might have been more fond of him.
-but again, that said: i'd like a rewatch, now that i know vanitas' backstory.
#the case study of vanitas#vanitas no carte#anime#anime commentary#i'm not sure if 1-24 counts as one season or two i've seen it referred as both

Well, Season 2 of TDI Reloaded (TDI Rematch) has had its first four episodes out for about a week. I figured I’d share my thoughts about what we’ve gotten so far:
-The challenges are a little more fun than in Season 1. They have a good amount of variety and the often led to really fun moments between the characters. From the Skunks clogging the toilet slide, to basically all the Rat Faces being carried by Caleb, and of course the AB questions challenge. My girlfriend and I straight up paused the episode each question to try and guess the answers. (We got over half of them right.) As for my personal ranks on the challenges:
-Taking it to the Rim Reaper (Ep. 2): Memorable concept, without going too overboard with it. Also, I’m a bit of a simpleton sucker for the pratfalls.
-Choosin’ for a Bruisin’ (Ep. 4): Great challenge for both character insights and just playing along with it during a first-time viewing.
-You Poor Saps (Ep. 3): I technically prefer Ep.1’s challenge, but this one led to so many gold character moments.
-The Pink Painter Strikes Again (Ep.1): Solid start. Simple challenge, nothing too crazy.
-Animation is pretty much on the same level as Season 1. The facial expressions are GOLD! I’d argue some parts feel more dynamic than Season 1, like the slide moments in Episode 2, but overall, no complaints.
-The characters feel like they never left:
-Priya: I kinda get why she’d fall hard for Caleb, as keep in mind, she’s been stuck with this training with hardly any friends. This also explaining why she instantly jumped to befriending Millie when it seemed they got along. It’s clear that she does value the friendship as she was the only one to give Millie a chance after Episode 2. She also did work as an effective leader in the same episode, instantly taking advantage of the challenge’s slide order rule. Overall, I’m okay with Priya.
-Bowie: I dig his plot. Bowie made it clear at the end of Season 1 that he’s willing to bend the rules…and it’s clear that he probably cares about Raj more. Since people are more weary of him after the finale, it makes sense to have his conflict be more about whether he’d play dirty again. Also, this joker in Episode 4! As a captain (assuming those roles are official) I feel Priya’s more effective, though.
Millie: It’s clear she had alot more learning to do about being a good friend. (I still say both her and Damien could have taken the two-point slide together if they were both weary on the third.) Though her elimination was pretty anticlimactic, unfortunately. I do prefer her in Season 1, but I’m not against the plot they gave her.
Julia & MK: I’m putting them both together because they’re basically a package deal this time around. Overall, live their dynamic. It was a sudden jump from animosity to friendship, but that’s just because they know game when they see it. They have so much fun just being underhanded together, and it’s honestly a refreshing take on villain alliances. While I’d say MK is the breakout of the two, since she’s the brains of the whole alliance, Julia’s dialogue is so on point that it hurts. My hopes is that MK does succeed in backstabbing Julia, but she doesn’t even get mad. She just respects a player and roots for her to win…underhandedly, of course.
Emma: Compared to Millie…honestly not that mixed. I’m glad she cut the chord with Chase early and she got him booted in a clever way. The one thing that’s kinda backwards is how she ends up being a poor judge of character in Episode 4 when she basically red Chase like a book in Episode 2. But then again, I guess that’s just chalked down to being used to his sorry butt the most?
Chase: Everybody (including me) called that he’d be an early boot…and he was. I’m perfectly content with that, as it’s clear that character development was never the end-goal with Chase. And the moment he left, the Skunk Butts became the de facto best team. Props on his ballsy attempt to outrun the balloons in challenge 1, though.
Zee: All I wanted from Zee in Season 2 is for him to still be Zee…Good news, Zee is still Zee. I honestly got worried the “soda influencer” plot would be a cheap and easy way to make him an early boot…and they make him Papa Zee instead. I love this lanky boy.
Ripper: My one complaint on Ripper is that he feels like he’s really not there that much. In Episode 2, he disappears for a good while until the mid-end. And he doesn’t really get to interact with his new team that much. The only real time he interacts with the other skunks is when he asks about how to approach Axel. Let’s talk about Ripaxel…I honestly really wanna see what they do with it! It is a little sudden how it starts, but in its defense, so was Rajbow. Their interactions in Episode 3 were fun to watch, and that POEM. Hey, fanfic writers…Raj and Ripper having a poetry battle…think about it. Despite him disappearing sometimes, what we do get from him is enjoyable. Here’s to more!
Wayne and Raj: My boys are untouched! The one blessing is that they NEVER went for some stupid jealousy plot! (Wayne cares too much for Raj for petty stuff like that.) And they are arguably goofier than in Season 1. (Shoutouts to them wanting burgers after seeing the slides and the “Cyclone-Spin Cycle”) It is funny how many people (again, including me) wanted to see their mischievous side more, but instead the boys are even bigger boy scouts with their understandable disgust at cheating. While I still think one leaving earlier is more likely, I really, REALLY hope that they stick for a little. Imagine them against Julia and MK for at least an episode or two! And while I still would love a Damien VS. MK finale, Wayne or Raj VS. MK works great! Fair and honest player against a crafty cheater. It would be gold!
Damien: I’m really holding out for him since he’s pretty much jogging in place a bit. Sure, he wants to take more risks, but it’s not to a great extent. Then again, the season’s only gotten started. I just hope his crafty side comes out more later. He’s not too afraid anymore, so now he needs to push his brains to the forefront.
Scary Girl: I dig the “Lauren” design. Unfortunately, the “normal” bit wasn’t really used all that much, as she barely had a presence in Episode 1. She had some small scenes, but nothing outstanding until she got herself eliminated. Though given how she was enjoyable, but pretty one-note last season, I feel she works well as a first-boot. Will she return to stalk everyone? Who knows. Probably.
Nichelle: I dig her more confident attitude. Part of me wishes we saw her gaining that confidence DURING the season, rather than all that development being off-screen, though. It makes sense for her to train beforehand, but I would have just as easily liked her having a bit of fire in her and then training throughout the season. As she is, I like how she’s so done with her old Hollywood life. Hopefully she does interact with Damien more, as they seem to have a friendship growing.
Axel: Besides MK, Axel was the biggest relief of the S1 pre-mergers. She’s still hostile and hardcore, but I find her showings of care towards the team being well-needed additions. Examples being her helping Damien back to camp after the four-point slide, and her warning her team to be cautious about getting stuck with the sap. I already said my piece on Ripaxel, so my personal hope is that there is a survival or stealth challenge where the two have to work together. (Ala Hide and Be Sneaky, Eat, Puke, and be Wary, or Hurl and Go Seek if you wanna count the “zombie” thing.)
Caleb: Caleb was simple, and he still kinda is. I like how paranoid he was in Episode 1, but overall he’s just a more effective Justin. I do prefer him over Justin, as he can be a massive asset to the team, as shown in Episode 3. Like Zee, I’m fine with him as is, and can only wait and see what he does in later episodes. Will his alliance become genuine romance or just a tool for Caleb to outlast Priya? Probably the ladder, as he doesn’t seem to show any romantic interest in her that feels genuine.
And that’s Total Drama Island Rematch so far. Tomorrow should be the debuts of Episodes 5 and 6, so here’s to a great season. I was honestly shocked at how much I loved this cast, and how refreshing it felt seeing the show after a seven (eight if you ignore Ridonculous) year hiatus. I will be making sure to watch the series again when it comes to MAX in seventy years. As for whether or not I wanna see the Gen 4 cast again…I’ll probably be content with them stopping their run after Season 2. Reloaded and Rematch work as just two halves of a nice little package, and I really don’t want them to risk having this lovable cast go through what Gen 1 did. If we do get a new season, I’d be fine with them having a new cast. Fans will probably like them as much as they do with Gen 4.

Based on the current episode (11x08) and the conversations and the ending scene, what are your top 3 theories about how it will end for Hailey?
From the start of the season, the possibility of Hailey leaving Chicago has been pretty high for me. 11x08 definitely made it seem like that’s the direction they’re going, so I’m thinking whatever route they choose will end with her leaving the city. For a minute I thought that this new detective was setting up a possible transfer to svu storyline, but after these past two eps I’m thinking it’s more of a setup and trial run for Jo to transfer to intelligence. These theories aren’t in any particular order because I can’t quite reconcile what I want to happen with what I think will happen, so these are just a jumble of both. I could also see some aspects of these theories overlapping.
1. Job Offer
The serial killer storyline is bound to factor into her exit. Whether it’s in a good way or a bad way is to be seen. A good way that I can see it contributing to her exit is through catching him or solving the case in some big brain way. Maybe she gets recognition for this and gets pursued for a job offer. Maybe the FBI decides to headhunt her again or maybe some other prestigious opportunity comes her way. We’ve seen that she’s struggling to find a way to move forward, and I think she would see a job offer as the best way to get a fresh start.
2. Resignation
The bad way I can see the storyline contributing to her exit is her reaching a breaking point after Voight goes off the rails. A Jay-esque style exit, she would realize she doesn’t want to deal with the gray area anymore and resign. Interviews thus far have alluded to this case bringing back the “old Voight.” With this killer being so slippery and Voight developing that bond with Noah, I think he’s going to start crossing lots of lines very soon. Hailey’s going to get dragged into it somehow and be forced to fall in line with his questionable tactics. Either she won’t fall in line or she will but at a cost, and it’ll end with her resigning and leaving the city for a new start.
3. Soul Search
This one is ultimately #upsteadforever propaganda. Hailey has been in limbo all season. We know that she’s not dealing with losing Jay, and we also know that the d word was not the closure she thought it would be. Something in the case or maybe a conversation with Jo makes her realize that she can’t keep living on autopilot. She’s forced to finally confront her feelings about everything and it makes her realize that the closure she thought she needed was not closure at all. In an effort to finally confront those things, she reconnects with Jay. Maybe via phone, maybe he comes back, or maybe she decides to go see him. Ultimately, she realizes that she has no purpose in Chicago without Jay, so she leaves the city to go and figure out what her next chapter will look like.

With having just watched episode 4 of “My Adventures with Superman” and thus completing my “3 episodes to WOW me” test, I can safely say that I like it and I highly recommend it. (the 1st 2 eps is a 2-parter and I count multipart episodes as 1 since it’d be unfair to count half or a third of a story on it’s own, thus waiting till ep4)
Clark Kent is the lovable puppy himbo that we all know he is. Just a humble kid from Kansas who wants to help people, track down a story for the Daily Planet and saves cats from trees no matter how late he is. This being early Superman, it’s great to see him develop and learn about his powers overtime instead of being godmode almost immediately like in a lot of modern adaptations. For those that think that Clark is acting a little too nervous really need to go back to the earlier works and watch how actors like Christopher Reeves played Clark. Just a nervous, shy but good person who doesn’t draw attention to himself.
Lois Lane was a change that a lot of people didn’t see...especially that she is strikingly similar to Luz Noceda (tho’ Lois is Korean in this) but that doesn’t matter after a while since your quickly won over by how determined she is to break a big story and prove that she’s a real reporter instead of just an intern. Her and Clark having pretty much a “crush at first sight” type relationship is pretty cute in this as while it seems to be moving fast, it’s also taking it’s time... however the ending of episode 4 might toss a wrench in that for a bit. Lois is still that overeager ace reporter we all know except that she’s still got a lot to learn until she gets to the ace reporter we all know.
Jimmy Olson being a conspiracy theorist (a fun one, not the losers we have now) is an interesting change and I’m waiting to see how far they take this and what it’ll do to help the story along. Granted that for a bit of the Clark and Lois romance, Jimmy knows that they like each other but at the same time is fulfilling the typical anime 3rd wheel and interrupting things, tho’ not maliciously. Him and Lois have a neat dynamic together and him being best friends and roommates with Clark makes sense and hopefully we get an episode showing how they met and became friends.
The villains have been neat takes on the classic ones, like so far we have Livewire, Deathstroke, Parasite, Ivo, Silver Banshee. I’m actually very glad we haven’t gotten Lex Luthor yet because I’m so sick of the movies using him as the main villain for Superman. I know that Lex is the Joker to Superman’s Batman but it’s great that the other villains are getting a chance to shine without Lex around. Also just like with my mentioning that this is early Superman, that also means the villains aren’t the villains that we know, I’ve seen so many people complain that they “ruined” Deathstroke by anime-ifying him but they forget that this isn’t the Deathstroke we know, this is before the orange/black mask and getting his ass kicked by teenagers on the regular. Let these things build up, y’all. (Also, I’ve seen ppl wanting to see this show’s version of Bruce Wayne and like, c’mon. let Superman have something without the Bat for at least another season)
So yeah, I highly recommend this show atm

[ENGLISH]
Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I last talked about The Player’s Fate and my progress on it, so I decided to tell you guys what I’ve been doing lately (And you can probably tell what it is lol).
So, my current plan for TPF is making one whole season with around 6-9 Eps. I’ve already planned some things for the 1st season, but I am still not fully satisfied with a few things, like the lack of development in a few characters and the exploration of Chara’s “mysterious power”. So far I’ve already written 3 episodes, and I gotta say I am pretty satisfied with how they turned out! I had a lot of fun writing the scenes and dialogues, especially Chara and Asriel’s because they are a very comic duo and their dynamic is pretty adorable (I guess you guys will like them as much as I do).
But the only Episode that I’m 100% satisfied with is Ep 1, because it works perfectly as a first episode to introduce this crazy world of The Player’s Fate (specially the first and last scenes, but I’m not spoiling that!). I actually wrote a much shorter version of it originally but I decided to increase the world building and explore the region of New Home, a place that we barely spend time in the original Undertale and I thought of an interesting new approach to the region.
I know you guys must be very confused with some things that I’m saying! lol “Development?” “World building?” You may ask… But these are simply a few writing tips I learned to help increase the writing of TPF. But it is still important to remember that I am just an amatour, I don’t actually know how to write a perfect script of anything like that, but I am trying to make the best one I can with my basic knowledge.
Still, I am very confident with TPF’s 1st Ep, but you might be wondering why I haven’t begun making it yet, and I have a very special announcement to make… The Player’s Fate will have voice acting. Yes! I know! Crazy, right?! XD
I want TPF to have voice acting since I think it helps transmit the emotions of the characters and make intense moments being way more intense than if they were just by texts on a screen. I know it’s much simpler to add a text on a screen, but honestly I couldn’t find a good way of adding these texts to the screen without it covering too much of it, and when I usually plan a shot to animate I imagine it without any texts on it, so when I have to add the text it takes out the original emotion I wanted to show. And I also think voice acting and lip sync can help make the characters more alive and make you connect with them much easier.
I know I probably made you guys excited for the result, and I gotta say I also am, but I haven’t decided who I’ll be working with to create TPF, and also I will be paying these voice actors so I have to find a way of raising enough money to do so… I have a very long way to go before actually making the 1st Ep, but I know it will all be worth it in the end!
One last thing I wanted to say is that I think the 1st Ep will come out next year (2024) or the beginning of 2025. I know it’s hard to wait so much but I need to focus on my Youtube channel in the meantime, since the series will be posted there and I want as many people as possible to watch it (and also because I’ve been pretty inactive there in 2023 and I want to get back on track for that). It will be a bit difficult, since (if everything goes right) I’ll be dealing with college next year which will make my schedule very tight to work on TPF.
And I also plan on making a special video talking about everything I can about this project, like the series premise, the themes, the voice acting stuff, and a lot more, since I don’t think I’ve ever talked very openly about it. I want to do all this so more people can know about TPF and become interested in it. I know it may seem kinda dumb but TPF is one of the most important projects of my life, and I want it to work and be the best thing I can produce even being an amatour on the area.
Thank you so much if you read all that! XD
And thank you so much for your support, I can’t put into words how much this means to me. Thank you for keeping up with me until here. I’ll see you guys soon! :D

[PORTUGUESE-BRAZIL]
Oi pessoal!
The Player’s Fate terá dublagem. Sim! Eu sei! Loucura, né?! XD

Analyzing the Roman/Gerri crumbs in episode 4 and why i’m hopeful
THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4 EP 3 DONT READ IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP
1. we have to remind ourselves: this episode, the funeral, occurs the next day. it’s barely been 24 hours since their conversation. and less than that since logan’s death. i was kind of surprised the funeral was the literal next day. it made sense roman & gerri didn’t have a full scene because there was so much going on that was a priority. plus both of their wounds are still fresh and everyone was around and so much was happening. writing wise it made sense why it didn’t happen
2. i think their scene will be next episode. although mattson wanted them to fly out the next day, (the conversation with the kids)i doubt they will go then. There may be some lulls while on the trip where they can fight it out lol
3. Gerri and roman making comments about greg. after roman’s first joke to greg, gerri chuckles. he then continues to make another joke and then after greg responds gerri makes a jab at greg as well. this matters because this is the first time we have seen her laugh and smile around roman in MONTHS. (besides her little thank u in ep 3) i mean they weren’t even in the same rooms the first two episodes and before that was italy and we all know how that went. there still is something there (less factual more hopeful here lol)
5. without logan looming roman seems far more confident and self assured i could see their dynamic evolving from mentor/mentee to actual partners which could also make it easier for the romance too
6. he’s lying about how it’s over with gerri. he could have said something way worse about her to his siblings when they asked if he was still pulling for her. he also would not look at kendall. roman is a pretty good liar but he never ever looks them in the eye when he lies. maybe because he is worried they will call his bluff but it happens a lot
7. although it hurt when roman brought up gerri souring on logan i noticed a few things in this. he didn’t look at her when he said it only when she responded, he was confident enough to disagree with her, and he didn’t push it about her firing being in writing (he could have) i think she will have more respect for him because he said exactly what karl did and he isn’t just going to be her little yes man anymore.
8. Kendall went behind roman’s back and said to move forward smearing dad. His first move is to go against roman’s wishes & hurt their dad. Even tho logan is gone, roman’s abuse ran deep and he always justified the abuse because deep down he desperately loved him and wanted to be loved by him. I think kendall smearing their father will make him reconsider his alliances and maybe go back to gerri. i don’t see how he could let it go because in the end roman always chose his dad over everyone.
overall i’m hopeful that we will see some of their old dynamic back and maybe it evolve into something real. either that or i riot lmao
long post but let me know your thoughts :)

BL’s I’m watching right now...
I'll order from fav to least as well...
1. Minato's Laundry 2 - Okay, I haven't watched ep 1 yet but I loved season 1 so I am stoked about this returning!
2. His Man 2 - Amazing series. It's a reality show that's highly dramatic and addicting. Not as good as season 1 so far imo, but there is potential for more pairings this time I think???? Totally rooting for the roommates pairings right now, but expecting to be disappointed in the end lol.
3. Tokyo in April is... - So far, really impressed. I love the japanese BL style in general, especially ones that are high heat. I also love a friends with benefits type of storyline, so this is fun so far!
4. Be My Favorite - I skip a lot of this one, and I find the plot a bit confusing with the time travel aspect but I am really enjoying the main duo's chemistry and storyline so far.
5. 21 Day's Theory - Okay, this is an older BL I only just started, and I've only seen 1 episode so far but it found it pretty entertaining.
6. Step by Step - Not as into this one as everyone else. I actually am far more interested in the side pairings storyline and sadly, they haven't been given a whole lot. The main duo has good chemistry and their kiss scenes were great, so that's something, but overall i find the plot a little bland and i am not a big fan of office romances tbh.
7. Be Mine Superstar - Only just started, but it was a bit boring and cheesey... will be skimming a LOT of this series lol. But I love jafirst, and the side pairing seemed interesting too.
8. La Pluie - Not sure why I am still watching because I dont really like this one. Def. not on the same level for me as it is for other people. I like the side pairing okay but mostly just skim this one.
9. Win Jamie's Heart - another older bl. Pinoy. Only JUST started and only saw 1 ep so its hard to tell right now. But seems okay.
10. House of Stars- Mess of a series. Lots of drama. Confused me from the start so I started skipping around. At this point I'm only watching to finish it off cuz its almost over lol.
11. Luminous Solution - Hot hot mess, quit the first time, trying to get back into it and having a difficult time. Will prob. end up dropping it again, but for now i am skimming through.

Love Live School Idol Project Watchthrough
i'm watching love live, and it's still not my kind of show, but it's better than i expected tbh. this moment in ep 3 actually shocked me.
i won't post much about the show, so i'll take the opportunity now to declare that Kotori is a sweetheart and deserve all the hugs in the world
i think the reason love live is kinda working for me so far is because it's not about breaking into the industry, and having managers, and bookings and dealing with fans. it's just about some girls trying to save their school with song and dance.
much more cgdct like in its vibes than a lot of idol shows for me at least.
they're school idols not professional idols. the show just summarized my point for me in one sentence lol. that's why it works better.
8 episodes of build-up, but we got them all.
Love Live! School Idol Project Season 1 ended up being pretty decent actually. Still not a big fan of the idol style, and a lot of its cuteness feels calculated (if you get what i mean) but it was a surprisingly good time with a few effective beats even. I'll watch more.
AAAH SNOW HALATION
i love the trope of the masses returning the favours and helping our heroes in their time of need
THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY
i love how love live sometimes just skips performances that are actually "important in story events", or doesn't show us the opposing teams in love live other than a single rival team, cause it's about the girls, and everything else they leave out as much as possible
THEY DID NOT JUST DO THAT
not quite sure where they got those costumes from but gooo girls!!!
wait i'm fucking stupid, they show it in the interspersed scenes during the performance. too hype to pay attention lmao
way too many songs in this final episode tho
like we did not need another song after the cliffhanger for the movie, good fucking lord sometimes love live has no sense of tone whatsoever
Love Live! School Idol Project Season 2 overall had similar positives and negatives to what season 1 did. The impending graduation did provide added pathos (big K-On vibes yes) which gave us some particular highs, while others were a bit overdone for my tastes. Strong overall!
Love Live School Idol Project went out with a hell of a bang. The movie was mostly just fluff and fan-service, (like sometimes way too much, i did not need multiple songs after each other with one having the entire city dancing together) but fun overall.
Perfectly pleasant series as a whole, and I had my fun, but I don’t think too much of it.

Winter 2023 Anime Roundup
(reposted from cohost)
Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on the Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte (ep 1 & 2): as of rn, my favorite show of the season. it’s a premise that i think has been done before, but “magic otome Cyrano de Bergerac” is a really fun spin on it. i really enjoy the MCs’ dynamic, they’re very cute together. but Kobayashi starting him out on chapter 3 of a VN is DEMENTED, she cannot be trusted
Ayakashi Triangle (ep 1): super horny, but also has some extremely good jokes. can’t judge yet how the genderswap stuff will be yet bc it happens at the very end of ep 1, but i’m looking forward to more of it
Handyman Saitou in Another World (ep 1 & 2): cute lil vignette show with some good jokes and characters. interested to see how much the random side characters play in or if they will at all
Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero King to Extraordinary Squire ♀️(ep 1): the Old Guy Girl Gang hangs sound extremely promising, but i hate the selfish, borderline sociopathic isekai protagonist bullshit. still gonna try and stick with it long enough to get into more genderswap stuff tho
The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Girl (ep 1 & 2): extremely cute, and much more thoughtful and well-written than i expected. very excited to dig into more character motivations
Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro (ep 1-3): it’s more Nagatoro. of course i fucking love it. boy howdy tho, there’s a bit in episode 3 that truly made me want to crawl up my own asshole
Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement (ep 1 & 2): another kinda shitty protagonist, and it doesn’t have a great gimmick to get me past that like Eminence in Shadow or Reborn to Master the Blade, but i’m still kinda compelled. i like the way she looks up to her otaku brother and uses his advice etc, and in general the way the show treats work (and specifically, not doing it). it doesn’t look down on either the protagonist for wanting to just live comfortably, or her brother for being a NEET. as someone who currently is unable to work, it’s cool to see it not treated like the be-all end-all of life!
Chillin’ in My 30’s After Getting Fired From the Demon King’s Army (ep 1 & 2): nothing to write home about, but it’s very cozy and watchable
Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun: just continuing on from last season. guess what, it’s still good!
ONIMAI: I’m Now Your Sister! (ep 1 & 2): i thought this one was gonna be super creepy but turns out, it’s a pretty sweet little genderswap story. i don’t really understand how the author thinks orgasms work, but that’s been my only real gripe so far
Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill (ep 1): need to see more, but it has a lot of promise. love how he immediately catches a bad vibe and is like “nah i gotta leave”
Tomo-chan is a Girl! (ep 1 & 2): the story of the biggest dipshit on planet earth and the girl who has a crush on him

*sigh*
Clone High reboot thoughts.
Full disclosure: I expect nothing out of this show, and am prepared to ignore it if it’s awful. This was, for many years, a huge favorite series of mine. I’ve wanted a second season / proper conclusion for 20 years. So I’ll give it a shot for that reason.
Episode 1:
1. I admire the writers for attempting to tackle the culture differences of the 20 year gap between seasons, but that’s all they accomplished here. The first episode just isn’t funny.
2. The Abe/JFK/Joan love triangle is amusing though. I like the direction they took this in. (I naively say right now, before the writing team destroys things I enjoy.)
3. Gandhi is, in canon, still frozen. At least they’re not pretending he didn’t exist in the first season.
4. The new animation in the opening is really nice, and I’m psyched that Abandoned Pools is back for this season.
Episode 2:
1. Joan’s sex dream bit in the beginning of the ep was actually pretty funny. It felt like a psychedelic gag from s1. Also: not over Abe. Got it.
2. I’m disagreeing with people who find Joan’s relationship with JFK ooc! This is kind of narratively perfect. She spent all of the last season pining over someone who didn’t love her back, and now she gets to be in a relationship where she feels loved and appreciated? Good. She’s allowed to have fun, even if it doesn’t turn out to be a permanent thing.
3. “Women can be friends now and are no longer hyper competitive because that would be sexist.” I’m gonna kms. You could have had your smarmy, unfunny commentary paired with a potentially meaningful character-note (why can’t Joann and Cleo be friends now?), but. No.
4. Okay. The Bloody Mary joke made me laugh. A lot of the goofy/weird visual gags in the episode were on point.
5. G03RGIA_0QU33F LMAO
6. Plot overall felt like it was trying a little more. Not particularly loving the new clones much (they all need to be a lot weirder than they are), but I DO love the new villain Candide Sampson. Her chemistry with Scudworth and Mr. B works well.
7. This episode was decent! They’re attempting to establish and flesh out the new characters. Hopefully they all get a bit more depth, and the jokes continue to improve.
Overall thoughts: The reboot is...trying. So far I’m enjoying some things and hating others. Either the series will keep improving and find it’s footing or uh. Crash and burn. We’ll see I guess.

New season of Vox Machina has dropped, 3 episodes are out, here is my review:
(Yes, I’m a bad indie RPG designer and don’t hate CR with a burning vendetta, sue me)
Ep 1 - pretty good! lots of carnage & destruction. I too enjoy Kaiju movies. Also, the CGI dragons have improved from laughably awful to nearly consistent with the broader art style.
Ep 2 - deeply, deeply *mid*. We've seen far better "this fight is a fight of the soul" sequences from this show, and recently (it was literally only two episodes ago). Existential shit-talking doesn’t feel like consistent characterization, and the split focus feels weird. Visuals were alright.
Ep 3 - starts mid, I’ve never seen PCs so fucking stupid, very funny to hear goofy-ass New Lore Names being used to avoid WOTC lawsuits. Some neat visuals; emotional sub-plot was undercut. Great ending tho! 7/10

questions 1, 2, 5, and 8
Wow didn’t think i’d get this far. *clears throat*
1: how did i get into Toku. Well, it was a mixture of watching “history of power rangers” and searching tv tropes. My first attempts at watching stuff were Gaim and Liveman.
But for how Properly: i’d tried for years to watch a show in full and really sink my teeth in and pretty much failed to finish anything but Liveman which even then took years, or in Rider’s case failed utterly to finish, and then my ex ghosted me as a friend, and i was stuck at work feeling bored, and lonely one day waiting for my ride, i was thinking about how i enjoyed reading about people’s reactions to ex aid. -along with it being in my thoughts for various reasons <like it’s insert songs > as it had recently ended, and i’d enjoyed ex aid 1-8. It had also seemed like a good way to try and make friends. So I Went and Binged Ex-Aid 8-45 <and Dr Pacman > over the course of that labour day weekend. Worth it.
And then a year later while streaming and being out of stuff in english To Stream i pulled another friend in with OOO and we binged through it, and Fourze. Finished Gaim too that way.
2: what was the first show i watched:
Well since i partially answered above: Gaim and Liveman were my first attempts at their respective franchises, Liveman took me about 3? Years on my own, plus i’d both skipped a few eps and had to speed up the last few eps due to having work the next day (it is still one of my fav sentai and i have watched it multiple times since, please watch it). Gaim i don’t know how many eps i got through but put off due to wanting to use it for exercise. Yeah that didn’t work.
Now for Ultra: Ultraman Orb. Fun fact i hadn’t realized it was only 25 episodes because usually the toku i’d encountered or looked into -and Doctor who, were all Much longer. until literally ep 18. So: “man how are they going to top this we’re only half way”. *checks* “huh where’s the rest” “oh shit”
i like Orb. It’s a fun little show.
Other Toku:
Garo: season 1. Tried to do a halloween watch and didn’t finish. Tried again later and couldn’t get into it-and then when in a situ where i could’ve. Had to miss most of the season.
I have however finished the first season of the Ryuga timeline. Started slow but really did pick up, thanks @flaim-ita looking forward to more goldstorm.
Other toku in geneal: Kaiketsu Zubat.
I’d seen clips and photosets because of how insane Zubat was and had been curious, and then Toei’s youtube put the first two episodes up. And: the first episode of Kaiketsu Zubat is Insane. You do not understand if you have not seen it.
5: favorite main hero:
For Rider: Tendou. Ultra: Riku. Other: Ken Hayakawa, and Taisei High School Heroes. <and i haven’t finished it but Mako Dogengers high school
Sentai: the Liveman Trio but for Red’s in general. -yeah probably Yusuke from Liveman if i’m being honest when i think about it, but Momoi Taro has been up there. i just am waiting to see if it’s recency bias talking or not.
8: favourite series:
Kabuto for Rider. Donbrothers right now if it sticks the landing for Sentai, Gokaiger or Jetman if not.
Geed for Ultra. and for Other Toku: Kaiketsu Zubat.

Survivor Season 47 thoughts (up through episode 4 but in no particular order)
I feel like I didn’t remember two words Sol had said so far, until he bluntly called Rome out for trying to make him not play his SiTD (ep 3). Immediately shot up to #2-3 favorite. Has continued to impress.
Rachel remain #1 favorite. Puzzle beast. Reminds me of a server I had a crush on when I worked at as a prep cook. What’s not to like?
Cheering for Teeny (tied with Sol as #2-3 fav) but not fully behind some of her decisions.
Also idk why Aysha didn’t call Teeny out episode 3 when Teeny makes it seem like the only safe play is to vote Sol. If Teeny and Kishan were truly with Aysha and Sol, a 2-2-2 split was completely possible. Why didn’t Aysha propose that and force Teeny to be honest one way or the other?
Given, Rome’s steal a vote could have messed it up, but no one was supposed to know about it yet. However no one seemed surprised when Rome was able to vote, and according to the edit they should have been surprised, so clearly there’s chunks of info missing there.
Very ambivalent on Andy. I was pretty mad he wasn’t voted out week 1. Have been enjoying some of his confessionals since then. Turning around and telling Sam about the breadwinner alliance ep 4 was super dumb (unless it was a calculated move to cause a rift between Sam and Sierra but again, why would the edit not show that?). I do think the practice of giving up a SiTD as a show of loyalty could catch on. SiTD is 1/6 chance at safety so not great anyway, and people like “plays” that make them feel in control more than taking shots like that. Players also hang onto anything concrete as a gesture of trust, as demonstrated by the alliance name drama here. So I like his SiTD move. Is he the first to do this? I was attending a pretty talkative watch party last season so I might have missed it if someone did it then.
Also ambivalent on Rome. I find him entertaining but don’t appreciate when players block others from experiencing classic survivor moments and he seems overly comfortable trying to monopolize them (fire making, fishing gear, telling Sol “I’m good at that so I’m gonna be mad if you do it badly” in the episode 3 challenge, then sitting down in front of the puzzle episode 4 instead of working it as a team).
Speaking of the episode 4 challenge- did Lavo or Rome throw it to target Sol and it just didn’t make the edit?! There is no possible way sitting down and waiting to be handed pieces is the right approach for that challenge. There are so many pieces and the shapes are so specific. You need to be holding them up and filtering the ones you actually try to fit on there. It makes no sense to block Genevieve’s access to the puzzle so she can’t visually compare, and then to try pieces she selects at random. Like what? But also, why the fuck did Genevieve or the rest of the team not call that out as a bad idea or offer advice on how to switch it up? I find no plausible way it wasn’t a throw. But if something that elaborate is left out of the edit then why am I watching? So I’m really lost.
Uhhhhh I had other thoughts but got worked up about the episode 4 puzzle because it was so baffling.
Oh! Sue, I’m sorry but no one believes you bit your tongue that hard. I’m dying a little. Idk what lie I could have come up with that was better, to be fair. I think she should have left the broken pot and run to wash her hands and face off. Let people know something happened but not that it was you who was involved.
Okay back after finishing the episode and holy shit. What a post immunity challenge flip. Genevieve just jumped from me knowing almost nothing about her to being tied with Rachel as my #1. That was a great move.
Style points to Rome for playing the steal a vote advantage on Kishan instead of Sol.
I’m surprised Kishan didn’t try harder to talk to Rome in the small time between the steal a vote and voting. What did he have to lose at that point?
