“I left you alone for two minutes…” seems like a very Bilbo-esque thing to say.
Sorry I didn't get to this in time for March Madness! But I hope this was worth the wait.
Characters: Pre-Bagginshield, Bilbo & Fili & Kili
Words: 1184
Bilbo had gotten used to being paired with Fili and Kili for nightly chores at this point. He privately called them Thorin’s ‘problem children’ because he felt their leader was resigned to Fili and Kili messing up and if he threw Bilbo into the mix it’s not like it could get any worse. Bilbo resolved himself to try to improve their standing in Thorin’s eyes, especially after the troll incident. It was unfortunate that his forced cohorts did not see it that way.
“I left you alone for two minutes.” He complained.
“Okay, but Uncle Bilbo, look at how cool this is!”
Bilbo rolled his eyes at the moniker before following after Kili as he tried to explain the contraption that Fili was struggling to tie off to the tree.
“You see, Thorin thinks that we’ll come back with a rabbit…maybe a quail if we're lucky. But look! We put some bait right here. It lures them to this spot over here. When there’s enough weight on it, the platform settles into the ground and that’s what releases the basket to fall on top of them!”
“And what are you going to do when you have fifteen to twenty live critters in your basket trap?” Bilbo raised an eyebrow.
“Are you familiar with the phrase ‘shooting fish in a barrel’?” Fili questioned with a grunt as he completed his task.
“Well, yes but I don’t think that’s supposed to be taken literal…you know what? This is one of your least crazy ideas. Well done, lads.”
Both boys immediately beamed, reminding Bilbo of just how young they actually were.
“Just wait til Uncle Thorin sees our bounty.” Kili grinned. “For once not to be subjected to his disapproving frown: I thought I taught you boys better than this.”
Bilbo tried. He really tried not to laugh, but Kili’s attempt to mimic Thorin’s deep timber along with his trademark scowl had him in giggles which only seemed to encourage the both of them.
“No, no! That’s not Thorin. It’s more like: How can I ever trust you to be princes of Erebor if you can’t brood as impressively as me?”
Kili and Bilbo were leaning against each other to hold themselves up as Fili looked off into the distance using his fingers to push his hair back like it was fluttering in the nonexistent wind.
“Wait, wait, wait. I’ve got it!” Bilbo declared, short of breath and trying to school his features. “Master Burglar, perhaps if you had any beard to speak of and your ears weren’t so pointy, you wouldn’t be quite so much of a burden to me.”
Fili and Kili were dead silent, their pallor going stark white in a hurry as their gaze was settled elsewhere. Bilbo frowned.
“What? It was just as good as either of yours. Was it the beard comment? Was that why you didn’t find it funny because you both…well, it’s not to say you don’t have fine beards of your own but…”
“I thought it was funny.”
Bilbo froze, ice shooting straight down his spine as heat rushed to his head making him feel faint. Oh dear. Well, that explains what the boys were looking at now. Very slowly he turned around to see Thorin, of course it was Thorin, standing across the way with his arms crossed, a smirk on his face, but his eyes screaming aggravation as he slowly made his way towards them.
“In fact,” Thorin continued making the three of them wince. “I think it’s hilarious that I leave you the most menial tasks, and even then you somehow find a way to screw it up. Watch the ponies, and you find three mountain trolls. Dig a latrine, and you somehow get Master Baggins stuck in a watery hole.”
“Well, it was more like a natural forming well.” Fili tried to defend.
“SHARZA!” Thorin shouted in return. When none of them looked ready to argue again, he continued. “And now you’ve constructed this monstrosity when all you had to do was…”
“No! Wait! THORIN NOT TH-” Kili tried to warn, but it was too late.
Thorin stepped on the boys’ platform, his weight more than enough to release the basket. They all watched in horror as Thorin looked up, right as the basket fell, and crumpled the dwarf into the ground. No one moved as Thorin lay on the ground, unmoving, halfway under the basket.
“What…did you do to it?” Bilbo asked softly.
“W-We…” Kili squeaked before clearing his throat. “We didn’t want our quarry to escape in the time it took for the basket to fall.”
“So we…weighed it down with rocks.” Fili finished sheepishly.
“Sweet Yavanna.” Bilbo gasped. “You killed him.”
There was half a beat of silence before they ran over to the dwarf, shouting his name, and pulling the basket away from his motionless body. Bilbo cradled his head as he lightly slapped Thorin's cheeks.
“Thorin, it’s time to wake-up. Thorin, are you still with us?”
A groan sounded below them, and Fili, Kili, and Bilbo collectively released a sigh even if Thorin had yet to open his eyes.
“Thank Mahal. I thought we were going to have to crown Fili as king already.” Kili teased. “Erebor would fall before we would even get in it.”
“Oh please. You inheriting the throne is literally Balin’s worst nightmare!” Fili shouted.
Bilbo rolled his eyes and tuned the brothers out at that point as Thorin slowly began to open his dazed blue eyes, a hand going straight to his forehead.
“Thorin? Are you okay?” Bilbo questioned.
The dwarf’s gaze snapped to Bilbo before softening into something that had Bilbo’s breath catching in his throat. That quickly changed into Bilbo nearly choking as Thorin’s hand moved to trace Bilbo’s pointy ear.
“I like them.” Thorin murmured, causing Bilbo’s face to turn into a blazing inferno.
The hobbit quickly cast an irritated glance back at the boys. “Now look at what you did! He’s completely lost his mind.”
“That’s just uninhibited Thorin.” Fili scoffed.
“Why do you think we call you Uncle Bilbo?” Kili smirked.
WHAT?
“Earlier.” Thorin groaned, closing his eyes momentarily in pain. “You made mention to your ears. I’m just saying I like them. And your beardless chin is not that off-putting either.”
“Uh…thank you.” Bilbo admitted softly. “You also…I like your…right, well, let’s get you back to camp in any case. Just to make sure you’re alright.”
With Fili and Kili’s help, Bilbo was able to hoist Thorin back to his feet, his arm lay across Bilbo’s shoulders as he helped the staggering dwarf listening to him praise the curls on Bilbo’s feet, the roundness of his stomach, and the gold in his hair. Bilbo took all the compliments with burning ears and a secret smile. He knew Thorin would be back to normal soon, but he was going to hold his words tightly in his heart, whether spoken earnestly or not. And then he was going to remind Thorin that it was his nephews, not Bilbo who knocked him out in the first place and deserve his ire.

Can't "Rise" to the Occasion by LordOfTheRazzles
bagginshield | during the quest | 2.3k
Every evening the Company of Thorin Oakenshield gathers for food, stories, and rest around the campfire on their way to Erebor. Some stories are fun, others are adventurous, but tonight’s theme is scary. Bilbo’s idea of scary and the dwarves’ understanding of hobbit customs throws Thorin’s mind for a loop.

The Hobbit AU | Crack fic taken seriously | Rated T (for now)
“You’re thinking about him, aren’t you?” Balin’s sudden words jolt Thorin back into the moment.
“Who?”
Balin tuts. “Your admirer.”
Thorin makes a sound of disgust. “Would you stop bringing up the hobbit?”
“Was I wrong?”
Thorin gives him a side-glare, and he chuckles.
She feels the need to defend herself. “It is only because he is such an irritating creature,” she hears herself whine.
It only makes Balin laugh more. “Have you considered–”
“Nope!” She waves her hands desperately. “I don’t want to hear it. I refuse to even think it.” She shudders and looks around suspiciously. “I feel like he’s everywhere , watching me.”
“That’s probably because he is following us,” Balin concedes with a smirk.
“What?!” Thorin hisses. “I knew it. The little creep.” She searches frantically, but doesn’t see him.

Bagginshield Fic Rec
I can’t believe I’ve had such an intense revival into The Hobbit Fandom after being obsessed with the movies when they came out just over 10 years ago now. There’s just some fandoms that have consistently amazing fanfics that are written beautifully and with such interesting concepts.
Some of these are a bit silly and cracky but i think that’s the appeal of The Hobbit, it’s a bit more cheerful than LOTR (vehemently ignoring Battle of the Five Armies)
So below is a list of fics I have loved reading organised by word count smallest to largest.
If you have any fics that you’ve read and don’t see here please share them with me! P.S, if you need more fics to read after these please check out the author’s other works.

Thorin II, Oakenshield, the Mountain King-in-Exile, had succumbed entirely to the curse. Consumed by the sickness of gold, he has lost his name and his identity as a dwarf. He had become the embodiment of the dragon, forever known as Zarakûl.

prompt: Bilbo is confused because some mornings Dwalin is braiding Thorin's hair and some is doing Ori's and Dwalin is cheating on them? Or they're all in a relationship? Why Dwalin kisses Ori but not Thorin? Thorin doesn't know maybe? And, most importantly, why is he jealous when Dwalin is braiding Thorin's hair???
Or: every braid has its meaning, Dwalin does Thorin's wars one and Ori's "family" and courting ones but Bilbo doesn't know and he's jealous because he wants to braid Thorin's hair and kiss his stupid face.
Or, even better: dwarfs culture is only half of a mystery and Bilbo has a crush. Okay, maybe, definitly, he's in love with Thorin Oakenshield.

Curious about the OFMD and the Bagginshield thing (do you hate that ship now in retrospect?)
Hate Bagginshield??? Oh god, no! What I was more expressing is there's a lot of Bagginshield fic tropes, largely born out of combinations of book and movie canon, that have more in common with OFMD than with the Hobbit films. For example,
- Ep. 1.5 of OFMD - Stede takes Ed to a fancy dress party with a bunch of passive-aggressive prissy nobles. I've read that exact plot at least a dozen times in Bagginshield fic with Shire AU where Bilbo takes Thorin to a Shire party, Thorin is briefly the life of the party but then realizes there's whispers and backstabbing going on and he's out of his league, but Bilbo is very much at home there and able to navigate the nastiness. It's not inconceivable for this to happen in the Hobbit world, because from the books we know about Hobbit society and it's not a leap if you bring Thorin to the Shire for this to happen. But in OFMD it is text not "IF Thorin had lived and IF he went back to the Shire, this is plausible.
- Thorin does not canonically have tattoos. Oh, there's some concept art in the art book, but man you'd never know it from the films that Dwalin is the only one who canonically has the tattooed leather biker guy thing going on. It's EVERYWHERE in fic. But Blackbeard in OFMD *is* canonically tattooed, he more closely matches fanfic descriptions of Thorin than arguably film Thorin does.
- Book Bilbo is a clothes horse. He has a few nice outfits in the films and is generally a bit prissy, but book Bilbo canonically has a room dedicated to clothes in his house. Fanfic writers extrapolated this to make movie Bilbo a bit more of a dandy. But Stede in OFMD is a clothes-loving dandy, canonically, in the text, and it's something he and Ed bond over. I have absolutely read Hobbit fic (The Road Delivered Us Home comes to mind) where Thorin and Bilbo bond over fine fabrics, but it's not in the movie text by a longshot.
The thing is, I don't blame the Hobbit films for not having Bagginshield be canon because 1) it's an old property that they were adapting and there were limitations (and I think they got as close to canon as they could, no random hobbit woman or dwarven princess shows up to re-code them as straight, it's never laughed off that they could be in love, if anything it's in the text via Balin that Bilbo and Thorin are closer than friends, at least closer than Bilbo was with Fili and Kili).
I'd argue canon Bagginshield, if it can be said to exist, is pre-slash because it is my strong opinion that Bilbo and Thorin realize they're in love the moment they both realize Thorin is going to die. That's the tragedy of it. Then you have the fact that a huge chunk of Bagginshield fics take place in an AU where Thorin lives and the relationship continues and well, there's no place for all the fanfic tropes to actually happen in the films because Thorin dies at the cusp of the relationship.
But with OFMD first of all, it is canon. They are in a relationship. But the wild thing is just how many common Bagginshield tropes, beyond even the ones I've listed, show up. I'm pretty sure I've also seen fics where a rowdy dwarf shows up and Thorin is torn between life with dwarves and life with Bilbo (as happens in OFMD with Calico Jack). Thorin never teaches Bilbo how to fight with a sword, but it's a common fanfic trope. Ed does teach Stede how to fight with a sword. The list goes on.
I recommend OFMD to people who like Bagginshield BECAUSE so many tropes show up, but I don't blame the Hobbit for not having them. I'm more in awe at just how many OFMD has! I'd argue more parallels than OFMD and Good Omens has, by a lot, but that's just me as a Bagginshield writer being opinionated. I'd recommend OFMD to Bagginshield readers, not tell Bagginshield readers to abandon the ship because OFMD is better. They're from different genres and they deliver different thrills is all. They just have strikingly similar ships at the heart of them. *shrug*

Favorite Bagginshield Fics I’ve Read/Currently Reading (in no particular order) Part 2/?:
It’s been a little over 6 months since I gushed Bagginshield fic rec and I decided a few weeks ago while reading my pile of bookmarks on AO3 that I need to post a new one. I have 33 fics below out of the 9,085 fics on Bagginshield’s AO3, so I’d recommend taking a look there as well for those I’ve missed. As always, buckle in boys.
Part 1 Ask
^^ rating descends from G to E this time for organizational purposes! also, a lot of these are all complete because I have no patience and have to read an entire 100k fic in one sitting like a maniac.
** (to reiterate) are extra, extra favorites, but these are all absolutely incredible fics worth every second of your time.
Call You Home by northerntrash - 12k, rating: not rated, complete, hobbit culture, everyone lives nobody dies au, it’s all fluff folks, Thorin’s making puppy-eyes at the Burglar again, hobbits have a secret language (sign me up!)
Summary: In which the Company are entirely too nosy about matters that are supposed to be a secret, and Bilbo learns that being concerned about propriety is overrated when you could be making friends instead.
** Wasteful by northerntrash - 6k, rating: not rated, modern au, coffee shop au (squeeee), in which awkwardly staring does not make for good flirting, and you should probably just tell people when you are interested in them, fluff, author writes modern Thorin so goddamn well!
Summary: Bilbo just didn't understand; why would anyone come in every day, order cake, and then not eat it?
** Customary by an_odd_ducky - 3k, rating: G, fluff, hobbits rub noses as a greeting!, thorin is jealous!, Fili and Kili insist on learning!
Summary: Hobbits rub noses to greet each other - a fact the dwarves don't know until they arrive in Rivendell and Elrond greets a surprised Bilbo by rubbing their noses together. Some of the company find it quite amusing, but Thorin is less than pleased. Fluff! Fill for the Hobbit Kink Meme.
** Para Bellum by RyuzzaKochou - 4k, rating: G, complete, basically hobbits are secret kung fu masters, company bonding, humor.
Summary: Hobbits always survive; even where trained and experienced soldiers don't. Has no one ever wondered about this? Thorin and the Company learn that it takes more than luck to be small in a big world. OR - Bilbo has unexpected skills and Thorin finds he likes them.
Silly Trinkets by The Feels Whale (miscellea) - 16k, rating: G, complete, fem!Bilbo, Thorin has no game, lies of omission, part of a two part series.
Summary: There are no words adequate to describe the Last Homely House or the wonders of Lord Elrond’s hospitality, which seems impossible to strain even under the burden of thirteen empty dwarfish stomachs and their even more trying attitudes.
Having played hostess to those same stomachs in her time, Briar is duly impressed and endeavors to add to the burden as little as possible. This is made somewhat more difficult by the fact that elves, apparently, are better able to differentiate between hobbit gentlemen and hobbit ladies that dwarves seem to be. A fact Briar learned when Lord Elrond pulled her to one side after their meal and put her into the hands of his daughter and her women with a gentle smile.
Briar feels that she probably owes him a swift kick in the shins for that.
You Got Me by drunkonwriting - 19k, rating: G, complete, dwarf culture & customs, everyone loves Bilbo and gives him shit, fluff, everybody lives nobody dies au.
Summary: The Company shows their affection for Bilbo in accordance with dwarvish tradition. Bilbo... has no idea why everyone keeps giving him gifts.
Comes Around Again by scarletjedi - 205k, rating: T, complete, a fandom favorite obviously, Gimli and Legolas are the main pairing, lovely art!, time travel fix-it, established relationship.
Summary: Gimli closes his eyes, an old Dwarf on the brink of death in the home he had built with his husband in the Undying Lands, and opens them again as a young Dwarf in his childhood home in Ered Luin. He's returned to the tumultuous week before The Company set out to recruit their Burglar from his cosy hobbit hole. Gimli, once again a impetuous teen in the eyes of his family, must get into that Company--the lives of his loved ones, and the very fate of Middle Earth--depends on it.
** A Dragon’s Tale by vtforpedro - 132k, rating: T, complete, canon divergence au, dragon Bilbo, timeline? what timeline?, Bilbo is so Done (same), Thorin is an Idiot, emotionally constipated Thorin (my favorite, jk), everyone is dramatic, lore? what lore?, minor character death, minor war violence, minor ring influence.
Summary: Bilbo Baggins has been a hobbit for many long years and he should very much like to keep it that way, thank you very much.
An old friend drops by Bag End with the offer of an adventure and despite Bilbo's refusal, the idea of only thirteen dwarves and a wizard facing a dragon may just convince him yet. After all, he has experience with the Great Dragons of the North. Once upon a time, he was one.
An Eye For Quality by Linelen (Linelenagain) - 85k, rating: T, complete, fem!Bilbo, au canon divergence, wonky timeline, family by choice, crazy courtship rituals (we love a good courtship).
Summary: Fíli lived his life by an old dwarven proverb: when a fool drops a treasure, a wise man picks it up (it sounded better in the original khuzdul).Bella Baggins never quite fit in the Shire. Perhaps she was made for the mountains, instead.
** A Shot in the Dark by Silver_pup - 213k, rating: T: complete, I read anything this author writes basically, time travel (I love this trope), fix-it fic, au, bamf!Bilbo, bamf!Dwarves, Bilbo is determined to save everyone, friends to lovers, eventual happy ending.
Summary: When he opens his eyes again, he finds himself in his old bed in his old home in his old body. Is this death? Or a trick of magic? Either way, Bilbo recognizes a second chance when he sees one, and this time his adventure with Thorin is going to go a bit differently.
** Flowers and Ice by BlackSmile - 54k, rating: T, complete, fem!Bilbo, frozen au (she has gloves, I repeat, Bella has to conceal don’t feel), some angst, author blames tumblr, no ring au.
Summary: Thorin wasn't really impressed with the idea to hire a burglar for their quest. He was even less impressed when he found out this burglar was a Hobbit. And all his hopes were lost when he found out their burglar was a woman. But still he can't help himself but to feel a bit attracted to this damned sweet Hobbit. Just why does she have to be so stubborn? And why does she wear gloves all the time anyway?
** Flowers of Yavanna by SOABA - 22k, rating: T, complete, overprotective dwarves, dwobbits!, fem!Bilbo, post BotFA, magic, families of choice, assassination attempts, Bilbo remains in Erebor au, cabbage patch hobbits (yesss)
Summary: Because the belief that Hobbits grew their babies in a cabbage patch had to come from somewhere.“What’s on your wrist, Bella?” Tauriel asked from her place at the dining table when Bél walked past her, nodding toward Bella’s right side.
Bella frowned and looked down at her right hand and then her mouth fell open in shock. Printed on the inside of her wrist, directly underneath her palm, plain as daylight, was a circlet of lily-shaped blossoms connected by an emerald green vine.
lay down your sweet and weary head by Elenothar - 125k, rating: T, complete, very slow burn, more pining pre-slash actually, time travel (again, a gift to this fandom because BotFA broke all of us), fix it yet not really fix-it it’s complicated, durin family, thorin-centric.
Summary: Thorin dies. Thorin wakes up. He is understandably confused by this, especially since he appears to be in the Erebor he knew as a young dwarf, about to be attacked by a dragon.A time-travel fic with Thorin as the one living his life twice.
The Nine Lives of Bilbo Baggins by captain (theoddoodisnude) - 15k, rating: T, complete, community: hobbit_kink, AU (sort of), multiple temporary character deaths, slightly gory, descriptions of death and dying, THERE’S A HAPPY ENDING FOLKS.
Summary: He's not scared, but rather resigned. He doesn't want to die, not when he knows that it will be permanent, but he doesn't regret his actions. He's died many times on this journey; first for his Company, and then for people he could proudly call friends, who then turned into family.
And now Bilbo will die for them again.
For the first time in his life, he will also die for love.
Nugel (Flower of all Flowers) by aquileaofthelonelymountain - 2k, rating: T, complete, post BotFA, everybody lives nobody dies au, fluff, flower language.
Summary: Recently, Bilbo seems distracted, even unhappy. But what Thorin interprets as homesickness is something different. And although Bilbo knows very well why he feels so strangely out of place, he lacks the courage to tell Thorin. It's only good that even dwarves know a thing or two about flowers...
** A Passion for Mushrooms by Chrononautical - 90k, rating: T, complete, all the dwarves, dwarf culture and customs, cultural differences, gift giving, language of flowers, flower crowns, everyone lives nobody dies au, Bilbo remains in Erebor au, slow burn, need I say more folks?
Summary: There are many trials for a hobbit attempting to make a life among dwarves. A hobbit wants a garden. A hobbit wants to eat regular meals. A hobbit wants friends, good books, and comfortable chairs. Bilbo does his best to carve out a little hobbit life for himself in the mountain. If only there were not one final obstacle. For a hobbit heart wants love, and among dwarves that is a sticky subject.
"Hobbits have a passion for mushrooms, surpassing even the greediest likings of Big People." - The Fellowship of the Ring, J.R.R. Tolkien
** Plaits and Weaves by ArgentAconit - 53k, rating: T, complete, braids, hobbit culture, dwarf culture, fluff, listen Bilbo goes through most of the company and gives them each Hobbit worthy braids (??? that’s fucking adorable bro), grooming, cultural differences, Thorin is jealous (big surprise), sort of a fix it.
Summary: Bilbo misses home, he misses his armchair and his books, but right now he misses his kitchen the most. If only he had something to keep his hands busy, he wouldn't so dearly wish he could turn back and delay their quest even more.
Fili is the first to take notice how restless he is, and quickly comes up with a solution. Bilbo, of course, doesn't seem to understand what he is being asked and how it would affect the company over the course of their journey. Or how it would affect one Thorin Oakenshield.
Raven: An Unexpected Adventure by Aerlinniel722 - 165k, rating: T, 32/? chapters completed, fem!Bilbo, everyone lives nobody dies au, post BotFA, overprotective dwarves, family feels, there’s a MINI, female dwobbit Thorin and you expect me not to read it, as if, Bilba really struggles in this one folks.
Summary: After the Battle of Five Armies, Bilba Baggins fled Erebor and her new King in disgrace with a secret. Fifteen years later, when Dís swears she sees a hobbit who looked like her brother… well, perhaps a certain burglar isn't as dead as it was initially assumed.
** Recovery, Redemption, and Romance by Moonbeam - 118k, rating: T, complete, Bilbo is a surprise healer, injured Thorin, rebuilding Erebor, Bilbo is awesome, Thorin is smitten, Dwarves are amused and sneaky, gifts and courting, slow build. everyone lives nobody dies au, developing relationship.
Summary: When Thorin is injured in the Battle of the Five Armies, Bilbo surprises everyone with his healing abilities.
Then as Erebor starts to rebuild he continues to surprise people with his knowledge and skills. On top of everything else that is occurring there is a dwarf king and a hobbit who might be trying to court one another without the other knowing - while their companions are either helpful or confusingly gleeful.
An Unexpected Proposal by Earenial - 100k, rating: T, complete, romance, character study, oblivious!Bilbo, frustrated!Thorin, Kili is a flirt, Bilbo-centric, fic follows (most of) the canon events of the book ( = no hug on Carrock), slow Austen-type romance, slow burn.
Summary: As Bilbo sat smoking in his empty hobbit hole, he couldn’t help but wonder – when did his life become so boring? Or better yet – when did his old life stop being enough?
He suspected the answer to that question lay somewhere around the time when he had refused Thorin Oakenshield’s offer of marriage.
** Feathers that Flutter and Fly by orphan_account :( - 14k, rating: M, complete, wing!verse, Bilbo’s wings are beautiful and I’m in love with wing fics sue me.
Summary: The Shire is taken by Orcs, ravaged and destroyed but Bilbo, who is still very young, managed to escape. He runs, travelling through Middle Earth until he reaches Erebor, where Thorin finds him, cold and starving.
Good Morning by Luckyhai5 - 57k, rating: M, complete, fem!Bilbo, major character death warning, imprisonment, PTSD, it’s really a nice story I swear, it has a happy ending.
Summary: There was a strange, tall man walking up the path. Bilbo recognised him, of course; how could one forget that tall, grey silhouette now making its way up towards her? Gandalf.
AU. What if Bilbo had already left the Shire once before? What if she had seen things she could never forget, and lived through things she couldn't speak of? In this world, Bilbo has a secret, a secret waiting for her in Rivendell, a secret that has changed, and will change, everything...
A Home for my Heart by Moonrose91 - 54k, rating: M, complete, social isolation, character death, miscarriages, infant death, barrenness, body shaming, bullying, mention of mpreg, Erebor Never Fell au, smashing of timelines, canon what canon?, slow build.
Summary: For things Bilbo could not change, he was condemned to a life of isolation, with the belief that none could love him. And then a Dwarf came to Hobbiton.
** Hurricanes in Hertford, Hereford, and Hampshire by 61Below - 126k, rating: M, complete, fem!Bilbo, post BotFA, pregnancy!, language barriers!, cultural misunderstandings!, durin family feels, tbh if Dís is in it I’m in love, ALSO author pictured Bilbo as Margret Hale from North and South??? that’s beautiful.
Summary: Bilbo was banished. That's it, the end. She wants nothing more to do with dwarves. Now all she needs to do is get back home, but there may be some complications along the way.
** The Oak and The Ash by sunryder - 67k, rating: M, complete, timeline? what timeline?, au sentinels and guides, sentinel/guide bonding (I love this idea of sentinels and guides, it’s like soulmates but more intricate?? and better almost?? read it, it’s fantastic).
Summary: Bilbo Baggins was not a particularly talented Guide. He knew that. His family knew that. Every last Hobbit in the four Farthings and Bree knew that.
But that meant nothing when one morning an agony that wasn’t Bilbo’s ripped right through him, dropping him to his knees with a scream. Wrapped up in the pain there was a presence. Someone fierce and determined, nestling himself in the blank space in Bilbo’s mind for the barest of moments before he slipped away. It was like fingertips brushing across the outside fringe of his soul, and Bilbo wanted it back. Wanted him back.
And so help him, Bilbo was going to find him. His Sentinel.
Something Blue by Lapin - 34k, rating: M, complete, fake relationship (ayyyyyy) au canon divergence, politics, gardens & gardening.
Summary: Thorin marries Bilbo after the Battle of Five Armies, a marriage of convenience, not love. Slowly, they must come to make the best of it, Bilbo resolves. After all, he's a Hobbit. They make the best of things.
** An Expected Journey by MarieJacquelyn - 295k, rating: E, complete, time travel, sex and violence, fix it, eventual happy ending, temporary character death, BotFA fix it, everybody lives nobody dies.
Summary: “I just wish…”
“What do you wish?”
“I wish I could have changed it all.”
For years Bilbo has written about his adventures and told stories about his dealings with dwarves and dragons. To most it seemed like fanciful nonsense but to Bilbo it was all very real. A weight followed him home from his travels, one called regret. Now in his final moments Bilbo has a choice to make – go quietly into death’s embrace or go back again and face all the fear and pain for the chance to make things right?
Of course, change is a fickle thing and not everything can be done again as Bilbo is about to find out. In the end, it may not only be salvation that he’s fighting for.
** Durin’s League by hobbitgrl - 73k, rating: E, complete, superheroes/superpowers au, fem!Bilbo, angst, romance, all the dwarves all the things all the feelings.
Summary: When the mysterious Durin's League takes the national spotlight in the battle against the super-powered villains of the Smaug Corporation Bilbo Baggins doesn't think much of it. At least not until Thorin Oakenshield crashes through her living room wall and Gandalf tells her she's their only hope.
No Matter What We Breed by fideliant - 37k, rating: E, complete, alpha/beta/omega dynamics, omegaverse, alpha Thorin, omega Bilbo, courtship, cultural differences, love at first sight, implied mpreg, a lot of sex folks, angst, attempted rape/non-con, Gandalf is a mega troll.
Summary: In a world where omega males are slightly less rare than Arkenstones, Thorin doesn't do himself much of a favour by falling in love with the first gentlehobbit he lays eyes on. Much more is expected of virile alpha male dwarves, after all, even more so for kings, but when Bilbo is revealed to be the first omega male in centuries, Erebor is suddenly not the only prize that Thorin has set his sights on winning.
** Office Hours by lilithiumwords - 9k, rating: E, complete, takes place after What Happens in Gondor, modern au, college/university au, Kili is a literature student and Bilbo is his professor and Thorin is a jerk (not really), smut, Thorin might be deranged, (I love the ending to this, read it).
Summary: When Professor Bilbo Baggins sent Kíli Vinson's paper home with a bad grade, he never imagined that his relaxing office hours would be interrupted by Kíli's terribly rude uncle.Whom, incidentally, Bilbo had met before and knew rather, er, intimately.
** The Riven Crown by The_Kingmaker - 254k, rating: E, complete, friends to lovers, misunderstandings, mutual pining, middle earth politics, everyone lives nobody dies au, hurt/comfort, nightmare, alternating POV, slow burn.
Summary: ‘We may have won the battle, but I fear the war with winter is just beginning.’
The aftermath of war is no laughing matter. Those who died must be honoured, those who are wounded must be healed, and those who remain need food and clothing, peace and sanctuary. With Thorin's life hanging in the balance, it is up to Bilbo and the rest of the Company to rule the rag-tag remnants of Erebor in his place.
Then there is the matter of the gold...
Can Bilbo save both king and kingdom, or is Erebor destined to fall deeper into ruin?
Safe and Distant by Lindzzz - 45k, rating: E, complete, slow burn, everyone lives nobody dies au (everyone knows but bilbo), thorn is an idiot, post BotFA, cultural miscommunication, 50k sequel!
Summary: "Bilbo never bothers denying that he is a slight, little bit, probably infatuated with Thorin. It’s not something that bothers him. Really. He’s pretty sure that everyone very likely has a little flutter in their chest for the dwarf. He’s something grand and unattainable. And it’s really much safer if it stays that way."
** What Happens in Gondor by lilithiumwords - 15k, rating: E, complete, modern au, smut, one night stand, REINCARNATION, anyone?, Gandalf is a troll, Thorin and Bilbo are beans, so much sex, prequel to a 3 part series.
Summary: The one night stand that Bilbo will always regret leaving behind.

A Light in the Dark

Continuation of the Snow Hobbits Universe
Bilbo stepped away from the chatter and shenanigans of his traveling companions and out onto the beautiful balconies of Imladris once again. He sighed to himself as he leaned against the railing. The view was absolutely gorgeous. Even at night, Rivendell was a true oasis.
“And just where have you been all day, may I ask?”
Bilbo swore he jumped a foot in the air as he whirled around, his hand over his heart.
“Thorin?!”
Said dwarf stepped out onto the alcove, that infuriating smirk ever present on his face.
“You should pay better attention to your surroundings, Burglar.”
“Well excuse me, I didn’t realize I needed to be on the alert for danger in a literal sanctuary.”
Bilbo cursed his quick tongue the moment after he had said it. He had been doing his best not to aggravate Thorin who seemed to get annoyed by something as easy as Bilbo setting his bedroll in the wrong spot. Luckily for Bilbo, Thorin didn’t do anything more than glower and cross his arms as he came to stand next to him.
Bilbo shifted on his feet as he drummed his fingers against the railing and shot Thorin a few questioning glances as often as he could without getting caught. His shoulders felt tight, and he could not even begin to come up with a reason for why the dwarf king was still here. His hobbit sensibilities encouraged him to come up with a topic, any topic, to engage Thorin in conversation. However, his mind was painfully blank. Just when he thought it would be better to bid Thorin good evening and wander aimlessly, a small spot of green light danced out in front of him before disappearing. Bilbo laughed in delight as another joined it and soon an entire swarm of blinking green lights existed on the patio.
“Lightning bugs!” He exclaimed in delight.
“Hmm?” Thorin asked without actually saying anything.
Bilbo shot him a curious look braving the subject hesitantly.
“Have you…ever seen lightning bugs before?”
Thorin merely snorted as his eyes followed the dots of light as well.
“We call them fireflies and yes. I have seen them before.”
That figures. It was a rather stupid question on Bilbo’s part. After all, they were a fairly common insect. A memory from long ago came bidden, and with a fond smile, Bilbo couldn’t help but feel compelled to retell it.
“You know, I never liked the dark.” He admitted. “I could make up so many monsters that had somehow appeared in dark corners. So when I was little, my mum and I used to spend the evening catching lightning bugs and putting them in a jar. We would then place the jar next to my bed before I went to sleep, and the glow would comfort me. However, I’d always wake up the next morning…and they’d be gone! I figured out later in life, my mum would come in and let them out through the window. Much too kind to let them die overnight, but… I always just thought they turned into dreams.”
Thorin hummed again, and Bilbo was content to believe that would be the end of their odd, one-sided conversation. At least it couldn’t be said he didn’t try. He watched as one of the bugs landed on Thorin’s outstretched hand before the dwarf blew it away.
“We didn’t have fireflies inside the mountain when I was a pebble. But we had glow worms that would cling to the stalactites in the deep caverns. Their light was more blue than green. Still after Smaug came, and we were spending so many nights camped out under the stars, I would see the fireflies and think…the glow worms sprouted wings and followed after us. Because even they couldn’t stand us not being back in our mountain home.”
“You must miss it terribly.” Bilbo determined, softening just a little at the admission.
Thorin gave a jerky nod, his eyes still carrying out over the lawn.
“There are parts that I do. And then there are other parts I don’t.”
Bilbo perked up in surprise at this.
“Like what?”
The corners of Thorin’s lips quirked up in a false smile as his eyes seemed to scream in protest.
“You’ll think me odd.”
It was such a simple statement, but it carried a weight to it. There was no hesitation. No doubt. Clearly, it was something Thorin had heard many times in his life. It was almost overwhelming in how perplexed it made Bilbo. Thorin Oakenshield? Hero, king, natural born leader, odd? It didn’t add up to Bilbo. And yet…
Bilbo moved closer to Thorin, just enough so that way he could bump Thorin’s arm with his shoulder, giving a quick flash of a grin as he did so. When he felt he had the courage to meet Thorin’s eyes, he held them making sure Thorin knew how seriously he took his admission.
“I certainly know a thing or two about being odd. Would you expect another hobbit to go running out his smial after you lot? You are in good company here, Master Oakenshield.”
Thorin immediately ducked his head, and if Bilbo wasn’t so sure it was an emotion he deemed beyond Thorin Oakenshield, he would almost say that he reacted shyly.
“I also don’t like the dark.” He claimed in a soft, near whisper. “I wasn’t afraid of it, but…mountain caves are darker than dark. I mean, look at this.”
Thorin’s arms swept out over the view before them.
“The stars, the moon, even your insects. Even when it’s dark you can still see. The mountain isn’t like that. You’re just…trapped and blind. And the pressure! There is nothing like the pressure of having an entire mountain looming above you, and you’re the one who has to shoulder the responsibility, you’re the one who has to rise to meet their expectations…”
“Their?” Bilbo interrupted carefully.
Thorin’s mouth clicked closed and his eyes widened. Bilbo realized he hadn’t intended to share that much. It was nice though. It was nice to know that Thorin had trusted him with such thoughts that Bilbo wanted to let him know it was okay in the only way he knew how. He reached out and gave Thorin’s hand a small squeeze. The dwarf sucked in a sharp breath at the gesture before pulling away. He climbed up the three steps to go back inside, and Bilbo absolutely could not leave things this way.
“Thorin!” He called spinning around to face the retreating figure.
Thorin stopped, but would not face him.
“I’m…I’m glad you told me. It sounds like it’s something you’ve needed to say for a long time.”
He watched as the dwarf’s jaw locked, and when he turned to meet Bilbo’s eyes, it was not the open, inviting look he had expected.
“Make no mistake, Halfling. My father and grandfather were great dwarves. They made me who I am today! I’m not…There’s nothing…”
Before Thorin could say whatever it was he was trying to say, voices drifted towards them from below. Bilbo slowly turned away from Thorin to see Gandalf and Elrond walking with purpose.
“Of course I was going to tell you. I was waiting for this very chance. And I think you can trust me that I know what I’m doing.”
“Do you?” Elrond returned briskly, not sounding at all how he did when he and Bilbo met earlier. “That dragon has slept for sixty years. What will happen if your plan should fail? If you should wake the beast?”
Bilbo rather hoped Thorin had left at that point as the taller beings’ conversation drifted to using Erebor as a stronghold against darker foes. Bilbo was certain it was sound logic, he just wished it didn’t sound so…cold. Erebor should be reclaimed because an entire population was displaced due to a fowl creature wanting their resources. Why couldn’t that be enough?
Bilbo risked a glance backwards only to find Thorin had not left. He stood still listening to the callous words of ancient beings, and could only hold his head high against the onslaught. Bilbo felt more irked by the conversation now.
“Have you forgotten? A strain of madness runs deep within that family.”
Oh. Bilbo could only replay the conversation from earlier in his head. Thorin’s immediate defense of his grandfather while simultaneously feeling trapped. It all made sense now. Bilbo watched out of the corner of his eye as Thorin looked away almost in shame as the two beings continued their argument before finally disappearing around the corner. As soon as they were out of earshot, Bilbo turned around to confront Thorin on what he heard.
“Thorin…”
“I am not my grandfather.” Thorin growled, cutting Bilbo off before he could begin. “They know not of what they speak.”
Bilbo didn’t want to prickle Thorin further, but he couldn’t help realizing it suddenly all made sense! Bilbo had thought he was particularly obtuse and standoffish because of a superiority complex. But it was a defense mechanism! A way to push aside people who have compared Thorin to a mad king. To someone he trusted only to be disappointed in later.
“I was actually going to say that it’s okay. It’s okay to love them…and acknowledge their flaws.”
Thorin’s eyes seemed to pierce him sharply as Bilbo continued to pick out the right words.
“I know I certainly haven’t lived up to my family’s expectations, but I imagine that’s not a fair comparison considering for me it was being adventurous and for you it’s…staying sane.”
A grunt escaped Thorin at that, and it was only by his upturned lips that Bilbo recognized it to be some form of chuckle. Well, he couldn’t be doing too poorly then.
“I just think, there’s nothing wrong in seeking…a light in the darkness.”
Thorin quickly sucked in a lungful of air while Bilbo stood there, wondering if it would be too much to touch Thorin again. Just for a quick moment. Before he could work up the courage, Thorin was taking another step up the staircase. Bilbo immediately took one backwards to increase the distance Thorin was clearly after. He tried not to be too disappointed by the development. In any case, he did feel like he had bonded with their leader which should hopefully make things better on the road.
“Right, well…Good night, Thorin.” Bilbo stammered, turning the other way.
“Master Baggins!” Thorin’s voice suddenly halted him.
Bilbo turned back feeling just a bit breathless.
“Thank you.” Came the soft admission.
Bilbo’s heart felt like it was exploding as a bright grin lit his face.
“You are most welcome.”
“Get some sleep. We’ll be leaving soon.”
With those being the final words before his departure, Bilbo watched as Thorin disappeared into the corridor. Bilbo hoped his words would keep Thorin from dwelling on his family’s madness for too long. He actually made Thorin smile…and laugh! Emotions Bilbo thought the dwarf was devoid of whenever in his presence. It was a heady feeling indeed that he almost gave a shout in his excitement.
It was as he was heading back, nearly skipping, that a little tiny bug landed on his nose. It blinked once and blinked again when Bilbo reached up to transfer it to his finger.
“Of course, many thanks to you my friend. We might not have ever made this kind of progress otherwise.”
Interested in Bilbo’s whispered words or not, the lightning bug twitched its wings at Bilbo before joining its kin in the night sky once more.
***
"Thorin! Where are we going?" Bilbo laughed, continuing to let the dwarf pull him forward by the hand.
"Just a little further, lukhudel (light of all lights)."
After the past couple of years, Bilbo had grown more used to how dark it could get in the mountain, but the deep places where he couldn't see the hand in front of his face were places he avoided. However, Thorin was confident in his steps and gentle in his urging, and Bilbo knew he couldn't be safer. The terrain finally began to level out, and Bilbo could just make out some sort of blue light ahead. Bilbo could barely make out the flash of teeth in Thorin's grin by the glow as he announced they had arrived. They turned a corner and...
"It's beautiful!" Bilbo marveled.
The cavern's walls and ceilings were practically dripping with the odd blue glow. It fully lit the space, glittering off the surface of the shallow pool below them. Bilbo turned to Thorin, only to be a bit surprised at his appearance. The glow somehow only managed to bounce off his teeth, his nails, and the silver of his hair. The rest of his intended was left in shadow. Bilbo tilted his head. It was almost as if the glow somehow highlighted the lighter colors of a person...
Bilbo huffed as he pulled on his snowy hair. "I must look ridiculous right now."
Thorin laughed as he stepped forward to press a kiss to the crown of Bilbo's head. "You are perfect. I will confess it was this effect I was after when I planned to show you the glow worm cavern for the first time."
A conversation, from long ago, niggled at the back of Bilbo's mind as his scanned his surroundings with a renewed interest. A smile pulled at his face as he remembered a balcony in Rivendell and the friendly fireflies who gave him the courage to talk to Thorin for the first time. Thorin's hand moved to cup his face, and Bilbo leaned into his hand, given a kiss to his palm.
"We've come so far." Bilbo commented.
"We have indeed, all thanks to you." Thorin murmured before pressing a soft kiss against his lips.
Bilbo returned the peck a second and third time before continuing their conversation.
"That may be exaggerating a bit."
Thorin chuckled while shaking his head. "No, mudùmel (comfort of all comforts). It's true. You see, I realized that night in Rivendell that perhaps Bilbo Baggins, the strange and infuriating hobbit in my Company, who had the ability to leave me breathless in just a few words, could perhaps be my light in the darkness. And here you are, the night before we are to say our vows, literally glowing in front of me."

by Schmandolini
Bilbo raised his eyebrows. “And you’ve come to the Shire to look for this someone? My, Gandalf, I wonder if you know Hobbits at all. They would tell you that adventures are nasty, disturbing, uncomfortable things. That they would make you late for dinner.” Bilbo recalled his own words perfectly. It had been something he and Gandalf had looked back on with bittersweet laughter.

The Valar send Bilbo back in time, to the day where Gandalf asks him to join in an adventure. After living a lifetime of regret and suffering, he vows to change things for the better. For Thorin. For Frodo. But will he succeed?

FIC REC: hobbit edition, mark vii (i counted this time)
previous hobbit lists: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6
just plain old bagginshield, this time around! i, er, i have quite a bit more than i thought, so i’ll be splitting the rest into another post. again. should be up some time next week! you’re welcome, mobile users
Green Mountains by TheGoodDoctor (post-quest, everyone lives, universe alteration, bagginshield, kiliel; humour, romance, friendship, family, faith, dwarves in the shire, cultural differences) life after the battle of five armies, now with added consort hobbits, animate durins, and wee bitty frodos
Confound and Confusticate by Emelye (canon divergence, everyone lives, bagginshield; romance, humour, cultural differences) the do’s and don’ts of interspecies courting. in this example, specifically the don’ts!
Homecoming by Avelera (canon divergence, everyone lives, bagginshield; reunions, angst, drama, romance) this is what happens when you don’t use your goddamn words, guys
Draw You a Map by ReverseNostalgia (canon divergence, everyone lives, bagginshield; romance, humour, drama) in which a few common misconceptions are addressed, to a mutual party’s relief
Breathe In by keelywolfe (canon divergence, pre-dos, bagginshield; pre-slash, drama, humour) bath time in the wilds, and the perils thereof
Green Thumb by perkynurples (alternature universe, earth au, bagginshield; humour, drama, friendship, romance) when bilbo visits a florist’s one day, determined to find some kind of plant he can’t kill as soon as look at, he gets more than what he pays for
Spring is Sprung by MistakenMagic (alternate universe, earth au, bagginshield; humour, domesticity, romance) it’s hard out there for aging dorks in love, let me tell you
Burglar’s Guarantee by seashadows (canon divergence, pre-quest, bagginshield; pwp, humour) because sometimes it’s just easier to get the tension out of the way, in fairness??
This Will Only Hurt For A Second by fideliant (post-botfa, universe alteration, everyone lives, bagginshield; angst, humour, hurt/comfort) in which thorin lives, but turns out to be the worst patient this side of the misty mountains
Ever On and On by yubiwamonogatari (canon divergence, everyone lives, post-quest, fem!bagginshield, kiliel; reshirement, fluff, drama) when bilbo leaves the shire after her infamous eleventy-first birthday, she doesn’t do so alone
The Lily by LadyNimrodel (alternate universe, canon divergence, pre-quest, bagginshield; drama, horror, supernatural, friendship, romance) bilbo finds an injured dwarf in the east farthing woods and takes him back to bag end to recoup ... which sounds like the perfect harlequin rescue-romance type set-up, sure, until you factor in the uninvited third party that dogs their footsteps
Concerning Birthdays by yubiwamonogatari (post-quest, canon divergence, bagginshield; reshirement, family, romance) in which bagshot row plays host to a very happy halimath
But If My Love Be Clad In Blue by PsychicPineapple (canon divergence, post-quest, bagginshield; humour, drama, romance) maybe a slightly less traditional consort’s coronation than the ones that have gone before
Cat Got Your Thong by kettish (alternate universe, modernized middle earth, bagginshield; humour, romance) local bardwarf’s panty kink exposed by housecat, more at eleven
Through the Clover, Soft-footed and Swift by katajainen (universe alteration, post-auj, bagginshield; animal transformation, humour, drama, romance) in which beorn gets one thing right, but ... not so much the other
‘sharing a drink’ prompt fill by andhumanslovedstories (Margo_Kim) (post-auj, bagginshield; humour, romance) i mean, idk why bilbo’s surprised: it’s hardly a laketown fic if thorin doesn’t take off his shirt at some point
Traveling Companions by billiethepoet (quest-era, canon divergence, bagginshield; porn with plot, angst, drama, homophobia, cultural differences, poor communication, romance) one firmly closeted hobbit and a closed-mouthed dwarf king flounder their way into a relationship, or something like it
The War and What Came After by Lee_Whimsy (canon divergence, everyone lives, bagginshield; recovery, ptsd, family, drama, romance) in the aftermath of everything, thorin and bilbo can only take every day as it comes
and with thy lips dispell this curse by paranoid_fridge (universe alteration, everyone lives, post-quest, bagginshield; drama, supernatural, angst, friendship, romance) when bilbo falls afoul of an evil lurking in the ruins of dale, he and his friends struggle to cope with the fallout
Boundless by MistakenMagic (alternate universe, earth au, bagginshield; merfolk, drama, angst, hurt/comfort, romance) wherein gandalf the friendly local sea hermit has guests, and his guests are in a spot of trouble
No Admittance by kettish (post-auj, fem!bagginshield; pwp, romance) bilbo has her preferences, and thorin is perfectly happy to accomodate
Over Your Shoulder by northerntrash (canon divergence, everyone lives, bagginshield; fairytale elements, resurrection, angst, drama, romance) in which bilbo takes a) exception to the hand thorin is dealt, and b) the term “proactive” to a whole ‘nother level
Truth Universally Acknowledged by glasscannon, Jezunya (alternate universe, pride and prejudice au, bagginshield, kiliel, etc; drama, friendship, family, cultural differences, soulmates trope, romance) bilbo and tauriel aren’t quite sure what to make of the latest gossip in hobbiton: that an eminent dwarvish family has taken up residence in the netherfield smial, and the rumours of prospective marriage. well, either way, surely it won’t have much to do with them!
On Adventures and Other Forms of Conduct Unbecoming of a Wizard by manic_intent (universe alteration, everyone lives, bagginshield; drama, friendship, action/adventure, supernatural, romance) in which the wizard kemendil, also known as bilbo, of bag end, in hobbiton, is enticed coerced out of the staid comfortable life he’s made for himself in the shire
‘Thorin & Kingship’ prompt fill by andhumanslovedstories (Margo_Kim) (canon divergence, everyone lives, bagginshield; humour, drama, romance) the coronation looms. no one’s quietly wigging out about it all, nope
For Those Who Cannot Sleep by keelywolfe (post-auj, canon divergence, bagginshield; pwp, drama, romance) wherein bilbo and thorin spend a restless night together, all bad double entendres implied
Home by hoomhum (canon divergence, everyone lives, post-quest, bagginshield; fluff, romance, drama) on the perks of wintering away from the shire
Braided by fredbassett (canon divergence, post-auj, bagginshield; friendship, humour, cultural differences, romance) a companion piece, wherein bilbo sets thorin to rights (it’s only fair, after all, to repay the favour)
Again by alkjira (universe alteration, time travel, fix-it, bagginshield; humour, drama, angst) there’s fuckery afoot (fili and kili, however, would prefer to observe it from a safe distance, in this case)
Barrel Rider by tirsynni (canon divergence, post-auj, bagginshield; drama, angst, hurt/comfort, romance) fleeing from thranduil’s halls to laketown, none of the company has an easy time of it - least of all their hobbit
Carry Your Will by Lee_Whimsy (post-dos, bagginshield; drama, angst, romance) as the company settle in after smaug quits the mountain, erebor and her people - her king - give bilbo more food for thought than he can handle
Shoshu by paranoid_fridge, rutobuka (alternate universe, fantasy medieval japan setting, bagginshield; supernatural, animal transformation, action/adventure, drama, pre-slash) on his way home from the capital, the daimyo of the province of kodokusan stumbles across a woodland critter in distress and lends a helping hand. fortunately for him, one good turn does indeed deserve another
The Hobbit Daemon AU by unorigelnal (his dark materials fusion, bagginshield, gen; drama, angst, cultural differences, family, romance, major character death) a series of beautiful non-linear pieces following thorin’s company before and after the battle of five armies
Old Men of the Meadow by TheBookshelfDweller (canon divergence, fix-it, post-quest, post-war, bagginshield; non-linear narrative, reshirement, drama, romance) while samwise gamgee inherits bag end, its previous tenants still inhabit the house under the hill - in their way - and will continue to do so, if he has any say-so
#fic rec#the hobbit#bagginshield#bilbo baggins#thorin oakenshield#do you ever feel spoiled by the creatives in a fandom bc like ....... ..#bagginshield trash bloggin'
