OCs! When I created Philia, she was for the pre-existing ship Patroclus x Achilles. But the thing is, I enjoy writing them in middle age and more seasoned, and having Philia allows me to explore them and their mentalities at that age. Way back when I was still writing for tododeku, I had some OCs in my fic Faith, and I used them for a similar idea. How do these new people put the characters into new situations and make them act in new ways?

Congrats, Bakudeku!! - Effects of the apology episode on the fandom

If you want to see what happened with the #bkdkapology tag and all, click here, but this post is only about video edits and fanfics.

So I wanted to minitor fandom creation (fanfics and tiktok visualizations, for example) given how enormous the reaction to the last episode was. In particular, I saw a lot of people returning to Bkdk or starting to ship it now that the episode had aired.

I will check again till next week, to see how long it lasts, but for now, I wanted to see the effect of daily amount of fanfics (Bakudeku) on AO3 and visualization on the #bakudeku tag on tiktok.

Starting with AO3 FANFICS:

These are the numbers for the past weeks. As you can see, each column is for a day (the dates are on the horizontal line), and the column height (and number) is the amount of fanfics posted that day.

In green I highlighted the saturdays, which are days when episode comes out, and in orange I highlighted all the days after the Bakugou apology episode (and the day itself, which was 11/3/23):

As you can see, usually the fanfics seem to be between 28 daily fanfics and a maximum of 51.

10/03/23 is quite high, so I suspect it might be due to the way AO3 counts dates (I am not sure if it counts them from my timezone or if it has a fixed one). The daily fics post episode, instead, seems to be increasing, and got as high as 76.

If we use a mean, pre-episode (excluding 10/3/23): we have an average of about 40 fanfics a day.

Including 10/3/23, pre episode we have an average of 41.6 fanfics a day.

But after the episode, we have an average of 62 fanfics a day! Which is about 20 more than the usual mean!

Now, let's look at TIKTOK VISUALIZATIONS. Why this? Because I have seen so many edits... SO MANY.

So, I am using for comparison the data I have collected last time, around the 20th of February. So the period of time is similar to the one used here on AO3, about 3 weeks.

This is the increase (from mid February to today 15/3/23) in millions of visualization for ship tag:

As you can see, Bakudeku had an increase of 100 million visualizations... probably more, as tiktok (for bigger tags) only counts in steps of 100.

Let me explain: Tiktok counts the visualizations in millions or billions. For example, tags like Tododeku, Bakudeku and Kiribaku have billion visualizations. Ex. Tododeku has 2.4B views, Bakudeku has 6.0B views. This mean that an increase is recorded only when it is big enough.

If you take Todomomo, with 200.9M visualization, every increase of less than 1 million will be recorded.

When you take Tododeku with 2.4B (=2400M) only increases of 100 millions can be recorded. So in the graph, Tododeku and Kiribaku probably increased more than the other ships (but Bakudeku), but the increase was less than 100 millions.

So in the case of Bakudeku we have a count because the increase was so massive (more than 100 millions), but for Tododeku and Kiribaku we cannot accurately see an increase unless it gets to the next step (100 million).

yes, you most definitely can! alright, here we go!

The Distance of Differences: this is my all-time favorite fic. it actually got me into todobakudeku for good. before reading this, i really only into tododeku and never bakudeku or todobaku. but damn, the storyline was really interesting, and the characterizations were great. i loved the dynamic between shouto, katsuki, and izuku. plus, i liked seeing how they all interacted with their classmates years later. i go back to this fic when i'm having a bad day cause i know it'll cheer me up!

Don't Say Goodbye: this one sticks out as a favorite of mine for similar reasons to the last one: an interesting storyline and great characterizations. i really liked how respectful and thoughtful sasaki and miyano were of each other (nothing new, but great to see it lasted into adulthood). plus, it was just cool to see them be able be a little family.

Ten Years, One Torch: this is my favorite tododeku fic. probably because i think the characterizations are pretty on point and because if shouto and izuku are together, then i need katsuki and eijirou to be together too lol. i just think the background ships are really spot on which helped me fall in love with this fic.

Look at Me, I Hear You: i normally am not one to find alternate universe fics enjoyable, but this was an exception (probably because the characterizations were still spot on). i really liked how katsuki and eijirou find a way to communicate with each other even with their challenges. i used to be pretty sick/disabled, so i think i have a soft spot for fics that show disabilities in a way that is just a normal part of living.

Your Hand in Mine (In Every Universe): so i'm not a huge bakudeku fan (i'm really only into bakudeku if it's todobakudeku) but this fic was really creative and i really enjoyed it. i think the characterization of katsuki was really spot on, even with the different versions of him.

Falling in Love at the Photo Shop: i think i'm a sucker for some oblivious-in-love fics like this. it's just really cute when two characters already act like a couple, then they realize they love each other. this is the story i wish was canon lol

Love, or Something Like That: kinda similar to the last fic's reasoning. oblivious-in-love and acting like a couple. it was nice to have a fic about kazurei after the christmas party/pre-time skip. this is what i wish happened lol

Bakugo Katsuki's Guide to Ignoring PTSD: ok so i know i said i don't really like alternate universe fics, but i like this one okayyy? probably because i also have ptsd and it was just really relatable. i also love how katsuki's friends are just there for him. plus, todobakudeku!

Of Duckies, Justice, and Life's Other Mysteries: ok so i haven't posted this anywhere before because it's not a finished fic (and i do hope the writer finishes it!!). but i really like this fic--it takes up my brain space lol. it feels like a cross between link click and buddy daddies, so it's up my alley. i love the premise and just wish there was more!

Crash Course on Intoxication: i realize i don't have many satosugu fic favs because there story is just usually depressing. but hey look, here's an alternative universe fic (lol maybe i'm okay with alt uni fics idk). this one also isn't finished but i really like it so far. it i think how gojo acts in this fic is relatable for me (as i was a closeted queer in college) and idk the characterizations are believable to me.

now, imaginarylungfish? well, my favorite animal is a lungfish. why? lungfish live in drought-ridden environments. so, when there is water, they breathe through their gills. but when the water dries up, they secrete mucous that forms a protective cocoon around themselves. they go into torpor (like hibernation) while breathing with their lungs until the water returns. i think that is amazing! they are super resilient and idk i find that cool.

the imaginary part is just cause idk i feel like i have a big imagination sometimes and also, what is real anyway? what if we're all just imagining life... spoopy

TodoDeku - Just For a While, Let Me Take Care of You

Synopsis: Izuku loves his job as a pro-hero, helping and taking care of people and being their hope. But with it comes a lot of pressure, much of it from himself. He has been struggling lately and he just needs some time to relax. Even just for a couple of hours, he wants to be taken care of, and he and his fiancé have a pre-established way to do just that. “14 shops, ruined. If you had dealt with that villain faster, then these people wouldn’t be coming to us for compensation.”

The moment Izuku made it back to his desk, his forehead hit the surface. Or, to be more specific, the messy stack of papers and notebooks that covered it. He curled his arms around his head to block out the other heroes and office members working around him as he tried to calm down.

It was his fault. If he had just been fast, worked a little harder, moved the civilians to safety a bit more efficiently, then those buildings wouldn’t have been damaged. Those businesses could be people's whole livelihoods and he let them get destroyed. He had become a pro hero over a year ago, he should be better than this. He should-

The ding of his phone signalling an incoming text snapped him out of his sinking thoughts. He turned his head without lifting it and watched the device for a moment, a small part of him suggesting he ignore it just to stave off any more incoming negativity. But the chances of it being an emergency or a loved one in need of something won out over his trepidation and he lifted his phone so it was on its side, and he could read the screen.

The first thing to appear was the time, 5:36 pm, and then the notification. It was a text from his fiancé, Todoroki.

Izuku sat up straight and quickly unlocked his phone. It had been a few hours since he had sent his last text, so he re-read the last couple of messages to remind himself what they had been talking about.

You forgot your lunch again.

10:14 am

Did I!? I’m so sorry, I’ve been so forgetful lately.

10:15 am

It’s all right, you don’t need to apologize.

10:17 am

Would you like me to bring it to your work? I have the day off.

10:18 am

That’s all right, I’ll just visit the convenience store.

Again? Haven’t you been worried about not eating right?

10:19 am

You’re right, but I wouldn’t want to make you travel to my work on your day off. You’ve been working hard as a top hero and deserve some rest.

Izuku tugged off his gloves to dig through his bag for his keys to his and Todoroki’s shared apartment. When his fingertips hit the metal, it felt as cold as the icicles hanging from the edge of the roof above, making him yelp. Even though the noise he made was small, Izuku could hear the scraping of a chair from inside the apartment and the approaching steps. He rushed to try and open the door, wanting to beat his partner to it so as not to bother him, but with how dark the night was he fumbled inserting the key too many times and lost the race. The door swings open to reveal Todoroki with his usual expression which may seem emotionless, but Izuku knew him well enough to tell the subtle differences. Todoroki was happy, which was always nice to come home to.

“Midoriya, welcome back.”

“I’m home.” Izuku said out of habit as he continued to fumble with the keys he was now pointing toward his fiancé rather than the door. “Sorry about that, I almost had it.” He gave a little chuckle, hiding the nugget of regret he held for Todoroki going out of his way to open the door.

“It’s all right. Here, come in.” Todoroki stepped out of the doorway and motioned Izuku in. "Dinner will be ready soon.” He was purposely speaking in his usual cadence, knowing that it would not begin until they were out of the public eye.

Izuku mumbled a quiet “thank you” as he slipped inside. He was so distracted but removing and storing his gloves, hat, and jacket, that he barely registered the sound of Todoroki closing and locking the door beside him. In fact, his mind was so focused on the task that he was a bit startled when his bending to remove his boots was interrupted by Todoroki’s left hand gently cupping his face. He was made to look up into his fiancé’s eyes, which had softened along with his smile.

“Welcome home baby boy, I missed you.” Todoroki said, his tone lowering a bit and his voice gentle with affection. He waited a moment, not proceeding until Izuku recognized that they had started and to see if he would respond in kind.

“I… missed you too Daddy.” Izuku accepted quietly, his cold cheeks starting to warm up as he blushed. He was always like this no matter how often they did this, a bit bashful and unsure at first. This did not deter Todoroki though. If anything, it made him put forth more effort so that Izuku could realize and enjoy this special time together.

“You’re so cold, baby boy.” Todoroki noted as he used his quirk to heat the hand on Izuku’s face. “Would you like a bath?” He slid his hand from one side of Izuku’s face to the other, warming the other side with the back of his fingers.

“No thank you.” Izuku said after a brief pause for thought. “I just want…” He hesitated, feeling a bit shy and selfish for wanting to request something that was actually simple. Todoroki understood right away.

“Of course I can hold you.” His tone was soft and reassuring to hopefully impart how Izuku’s desires were nothing to hesitate for. “I’ll take care of you.”

Just hearing those words was enough to make Izuku’s heart flutter and his shoulders feel lighter. All day, every day, he had to take care of everyone. Not that he hated his job. He loved being a hero with all his heart. But all of that responsibility piles up and weighs on him. And though he can take more than most, he is still human and there is a breaking point. But this, having someone take care of him, even if only for a couple of hours, eased the strain.

“Thank you, Daddy.” He whispered, his expression relaxing into a small smile and gently curved brows.

“No need to thank me, baby boy,” Todoroki slid his hand around to hold the back of Izuku’s neck and pulled his forward a tad to rest their foreheads together. “this is my duty as your Daddy, to take care of you. To make you feel comfortable, safe, and cherished.” This was always his priority when they did this, but he still felt that he needed to repeat it to help Izuku accept and understand that right now, he didn’t need to worry about anything.

For a moment they stood together like that, just relishing in the moment of closeness and quiet peace, with only their soft breaths and heartbeats filling their ears. Eventually, though, Todoroki pulled back.

“Firstly, let's get you out of these boots.” He knelt down and started to undo the laces and strap of Izuku’s boots, softly hushing his fiancé when he got flustered and tried to assert that he could do it. “I know you are a big boy and can do it yourself, but I want to do this for you.” He waited for Izuku to lean forward and brace himself on his shoulders before slipping the heavy work boots off, the weight on Todoroki’s shoulders being light but pleasant as he offered stability. “There we go. Now,” Todoroki said as he placed the boots aside. As he stood back up, he hooked an arm around Izuku's legs, just under his rear, and lifted the smaller man, who made a surprised squeak as his feet left the ground. “let’s get settled on the couch, shall we?”

“R-right.” Izuku mumbled, a curled-up hand raising to his mouth in embarrassment. He did not fight it though. Instead, once Todoroki turned around and started walking effortlessly, Izuku leaned more on his Daddy. He draped his arms around Todoroki’s neck and buried his face in his two-toned hair, taking in a deep breath so he could smell the lingering smell of spices used for the currently cooking dinner and his fiancé’s natural scent. His feet, free from having to support himself, lifted up in happy, playful little kicks. And when Todoroki bounced him up a bit to get a better hold on him, Izuku giggled quietly like it was a ride.

Seeing that Izuku was enjoying this, Todoroki chose to draw it out longer in hopes of hearing more of his fiancé’s child-like giddy voice. He passed the living room and went right to the kitchen where a large pot was simmering atop the stove.

“What are you making Daddy?” Izuku asked curiously, lifting and turning his head to look at the pot. He also unconsciously pressed his cheek to the side of Todoroki’s head just to be a little closer.

“Since it has been so cold lately and I know you haven’t been eating properly,” Todoroki said the last bit with a playful disciplinary tone as he used his free hand to poke at Izuku’s stomach, making him wriggle and giggle. “I decided to make some curry for us. Would you like to be Daddy’s taste tester?”

“Yes please!” Izuku answered right away, his eyes lighting up and his hands curling and flexing in excitement. The two worked in tandem as they opened the lid of the pot, Todoroki being sure to shift Izuku onto one hip and turning him away from the rush of steam, stirred the content and scooped up a half spoon for tasting.

“One second.” Todoroki interjected before Izuku could lift the spoon to his lips. Using his free right hand, Todoroki stroked the underside of the spoon with two fingers, using his quirk to cool down the contents to a more comfortable temperature. “Good boy.” He praised Izuku for waiting as asked. “Now you can have it.”

Izuku made a light, proud ‘hm’ sound at being praised before taking the bite. It was a pleasant wave of heat and flavour, at least in comparison to his chilled body from walking home and the practically flavourless convenience store food he had eaten that day.

“Is it good?” Todoroki asked despite seeing the big smile on Izuku’s face. Izuku gave an enthusiastic nod in response, his mouth still holding the food. “Can you please get some for Daddy too?” Another nod from Izuku as he turned and carefully gathered more curry on the same spoon. He lifted it towards Todoroki’s mouth but stopped when Todoroki simply opened up, ready to take the food without the same regard he had shown Izuku.

“It’s hot Daddy.” Izuku reminded, pulling the spoon away a little.

“Right you are. Thank you for looking out for me baby boy.” Todoroki praised, giving Izuku’s legs that he was holding a little squeeze to simulate a hug. Todoroki did not need to cool down the food for himself as he was accustomed to more extreme temperatures thanks to his quirk, and he also didn’t have to have Izuku spoon-feed him. But he did it anyway just to make Izuku happy and to strengthen their bond just a bit more. “It is good, but it still needs some time to simmer.” He decided after tasting his curry. He plucked the spoon from Izuku’s hand, placed it aside, and replaced the potlid. “I’d say another half hour, maybe 45 minutes.” He shifted Izuku in his arms so they were facing each other again. “How about we rest while we wait for dinner to finish.” Todoroki waits for Izuku’s little nod before receding.

He exits the kitchen and goes into the living room, all while still carrying Izuku securely in his arms. He seats himself on the couch and then maneuvers Izuku to side sideways on his lap, the position Izuku prefers in this play as he can lay the side of his head against Todoroki’s chest and listen to the steady beat of his heart, which he does right away. Once in position, Izuku lets out a long, heavy sigh. He settled quickly, feeling content sitting in his fiancé’s arms and listening to the lullaby that was his slow breaths and heartbeats. The world felt quiet and at peace when they were like this. No villains hurting anyone. No one in pain crying for help. No boss yelling at him for not doing good enough. And none of his own thoughts telling him the same. Any possible negative thought that tried to rear its ugly head up was washed away when Todoroki started to run his hand through his hair. A little whimper slipped from Izuku’s lips as his eyes fluttered closed. He nuzzled his cheek against Todoroki’s chest to return some affection and signal that he wanted him to continue doing what he was doing.

Not only did Todoroki continue, but he piled on more. His other hand patted, stroked, and caressed Izuku’s body, his face, shoulders, arms, hips, and legs. And every so often he would whisper compliments and praises, some specific and some general.

“I saw what you did on the news recently. You stopped the villain without letting a single civilian get injured. That’s amazing.” “You work so hard, and so many people appreciate all that you do.” “You’re strong and brave and selfless.” “I’m so proud of you.”

It was all lavished on Izuku and though he would usually deflect the praise, right now, while playing this role, he didn’t. For a while, he just took all of it in and believed Todoroki when he said he was “more than enough”.

This innocent praise and affection were wonderful, but as time went on, Izuku’s body started to react differently. The petting of his legs made him focus on how high his hand went. The compliments of “you’re so beautiful baby boy” became not just flattering, but with how Todoroki whispered it near his ear it also became arousing. Izuku’s legs and fingers fidgeted and he started to crave more. This was all just him being a pervert though, or so he told himself, and it was wrong for him to turn this comforting moment into an intimate one.

While Izuku argued with himself and tried to fight his blood from heading south, Todoroki was fully aware of what he was doing, purposely moving his hand closer and closer to Izuku’s growing need with each pet of his leg. He knew that Izuku would not ask for it himself, harbouring this unfounded idea that adapting what kind of affection you craved in a moment was somehow selfish. Well, Todoroki was playing the role of ‘Daddy’ right now, and as a good Daddy should, he would teach his baby boy that he could be a little selfish because Todoroki would give him anything and everything he could ever want and need.

“Daddy, we can’t. I’m still messy and tired and dirty from work and I-” Izuku whimpered out before being cut off by his own stuttering gasp as Todoroki slid the side of his pointer finger up and over the growing bulge in Izuku’s pants. “Please~” He pleaded as he turned his head to hide his face in the crook on Todoroki’s neck.

“Please what?” Todoroki prompted, wanting Izuku to try to be more honest with his desires and trust in his fiancé to fulfill them. “What would you like baby boy?”

“I…” Izuku hesitated, his fear of being too selfish and needy conflicting with the comfortable, cared-for feeling of having his Daddy cradle him to his chest. “I don’t know.” He finally said, voice quivering a bit as if he was about to tear up.

“I understand.” Todoroki specifically used a phrase to minimize the chance of Izuku reading his response as disappointed or annoyed. Todoroki’s desire was second to calming and reassuring Izuku down from his burgeoning distress. He slowly moved his hand away from Izuku’s need and instead placed it on his knee to be comforting and not as bold. He kept his right hand still of Izuku’s knee and continued to run his hand through his fiancé’s green hair to help relax his growing anxiety. After a moment of simply holding and destressing his partner, Todoroki spoke again. “How about this,” He shifted a bit to encourage Izuku to lift his head and look at him, which he did. “would you like to relax, play a game, or have Daddy touch you more?” He gave options to lessen the strain of thinking through all possibilities and their implications. Todoroki waited patiently for a response, continuing to pet Izuku and smile down at him gently, even looking away in brief moments so he did not add pressure with his watching.

Izuku shifted and wiggled a bit as he thought, something Todoroki accommodated as needs, so he felt safe and free to move about, and lifted a hand to his mouth to rest against his lips. His mind raced with conflicting concerns, most being about things relating to other people like how this might affect his ability to work well tomorrow and how Todoroki would feel if he rejected his attempts to be more intimate. But the longer he lay in Todoroki’s arms, feeling his gentle and supportive touch and sensing his content aura despite the situation, the more relaxed he became and, oddly enough, the more focused he got on the moment at hand and his thoughts on it.

“I’m… really tired. I think I just want to relax.” He admitted, his gaze cast down as if he was ashamed for making this choice. “Can we please just cuddle for now?”

“Yes, we can do that.” Todoroki leaned his head atop Izuku’s and moving the hand on his knee to wrap around his waist in a gentle hold. “Thank you for being honest with me baby boy.”

Izuku let out a quiet sigh as Todoroki accepted his decision, even if he knew deep down that he would. Still, the ever-burning flame of doubt flickered in him just enough to make him apologize.

“I’m sorry Daddy.”

“Shh, none of that now.” Todoroki quickly hushed; his voice filled with tenderness. He lifted his head, cupped Izuku’s cheek, and led him to look into his eyes. “Your pleasure, your desires, your limits—they are all valid and important. I am here for you, always.” He leaned forward a placed a lingering kiss on Izuku’s forehead.

Izuku’s heart stopped for a beat then fluttered. His lips curled up into a thankful, content smile.

“Thank you.” He breathed. When Todoroki pulled back though and their eyes connected, for once his fears and self-doubts stayed silent, allowing him to close his eyes, lift his chin, and silently ask for a kiss, which his Daddy gladly gave.

This story was created from an ongoing conversation with my friend. In my stories, I like some Daddy/mommy kink, but my friend does not like it at all. They aren’t a hater or anything, they just don’t understand it personally. Anyway, we got talking and they explained that they have read a handful of Daddy kink stuff, but it was all just the “you have been a bad girl/boy so will be punished” kind of thing. I, though liking that aspect sometimes, more so like the comforting, age-regression side of the kink. My friend said they haven't read any stories like that so I am making one for them to read. And why not post it for others to enjoy, right?

Todoroki x Deku was specifically chosen because it is a ship we both like that we both can see fitting into this kink. Or at least my friend can accept it more than other ships.

I know they don't fit the roles exactly. Bakugou would probably do Arthur better actually because Arthur is kind of a dickhead at the beginning..

but I just want it for the roles of prince and manservant with a secret.

But you know it could still work with either tododeku or bakudeku

I just thought of Shouto first because he's usually "the prince™" in most fantasy AUs. (and to be honest pre sports festival Shouto was also rather rude so it would still fit)

I don't know who Morgana would be in the bakudeku version or what any other character match would be, this is just a very basic idea for an AU.

Not sure if this is something anyone would be interested in, but I was thinking of writing fanfiction collaboratively with someone, maybe where we just collaboratively write chapters together, maybe where we switch perspectives back and forth and each write a characters perspective, maybe where one of us mainly writes one fic and the other edits and then do that the opposite way on a separate fic.

I'm not really stuck on any of those options and if you have a different idea I'd be down to explore that, I just honestly I think want to try working with others, I think it'd be fun.

Fluff, I can write it, but I'm not great at coming up with fluff. I'm much much more a hurt/comfort guy

A Couple Of My Hard No's

I don't write noncon or underage unless it's specifically addressing a character's trauma or abuse, and even then I prefer less show more tell. If you want to explore a character's trauma dealing with experiencing and healing from either of those, I'm ok with that, but I won't ever write it in a positive manner.

Permanent main character death unless already such in canon (I can write hurt/no comfort but at the end of the day they're my blorbos and I just need them to live)

Permanent amnesia trope (same deal as above, I need my blorbos to be happy or at the very least to have them at least remember each other even if they're in pain)

Life’s Shadow’s: A Bakugo-centric Dead/Ghost! Izuku fic where Katsuki learns to deal with the guilt and moral weight that comes from facing the consequences of his actions. Bit of a darker story but it’s got all the poetic elements I love.

Silk Smooth Skin: An Izuku-Centric 3-part fic where a game of Truth or Dare ends in very uncomfortable discovers for everyone involved, also a bit darker and a bit older but still suitable if that’s your cup of tea.

oh boy im about to get absolutely destroyed but tododeku. i dont read established relationships much and i prefer lots of drama but the vibe i get from tododeku is theyd get together without much hassle so i just have no interest

13: unpopular opinion about bakugou?

ohhhh boy. i dont think theres anything i can say about him that hasnt been said before. the fandom has analyzed him to hell and back and honestly i think theyve got a pretty good grasp on his character at this point so i dont think any of my headcanons would really qualify here....

i think the biggest thing would be that i think he gets too much focus in the fandom. yeah hes the foil for the mc and hes had probably the most character growth out of everyone but there are other characters yall can obsess over smh.

also i think hes much more up front about how he feels than hes portrayed as a lot of the time. the shit he keeps to himself is either stuff hes still figuring out or stuff he feels guilty about but even in the case of the latter it comes up sooner rather than later (deku vs kacchan 2 for example). once he knows how he thinks/feels he doesnt really hide it. i think a lot of the time in fics he tends to keep things pent up or is sometimes a bit tsundere but honestly i think hes much more straightforward than that. hes not afraid of consequences because he very much believes he can overcome anything with enough effort so hes going to say what he thinks and deal with the results as they come up.

ngl though most of the fic i read is shippy stuff so this may not apply in non-romantic scenarios

10: most disliked arc? why?

the pre-ua arc. mostly because the only characters we see are all might deku and bakugou and im more invested in the dynamics of the class as a whole.

early bakugou is The Worst and while i think showing that is important in order to establish how he grows as the series goes on, its not something that i especially care to rewatch. i think looking back on cringey middle school times is always difficult for me irl or otherwise so its not really a complaint about bakugou specifically but yeah.

as for all might i frankly disagree with a lot of his views on being a hero and this is when most of them are established. every time i watch this i just want to argue with him lol

and with deku tbh im just not super a fan of him??? i think part of it is because a lot of his behavior thats emphasized in canon is stuff that i personally struggle with (his tendency to worry about others to the point that he completely neglects himself for one) and while overall i think this is something the series discourages i also want to shake him and scream at him every time he does this stuff. please value yourself small green child. (also all might encourages the self sacrificing stuff and sees it as a sign of being a True Hero and this is an excellent example of what i was talking about in the previous paragraph.)

also its always kinda bothered me that the initial couple episodes are all deku trying to become a hero without a quirk but a) hes not actually doing anything to get closer to his goal (unless you count the analysis of other heroes) like he knows he wouldnt be able to rely on a quirk but hes not even trying to figure out any more obtainable alternatives hes just saying "i want to do this thing" and then not putting any effort in until all might offers to train him. meanwhile characters who are equally committed to the same goal (bakugou and todoroki for example, although todorokis situation is complicated what with endeavor being The Worst and all) are training themselves physically in addition to strengthening their quirks. i would consider deku to be more on par with characters like kirishima who didnt commit to the hero thing until their last year of junior high but that just doesnt match up with the emphasis by both deku himself and the narrative that he has always really wanted to become a hero.

also the whole "i want to become a hero even though i dont have a quirk" thing gets resolved by him just. getting a quirk?? idk i feel like bnha toys with the idea of addressing quirkless discrimination but always just handwaves it away. like oh this character wants to do something that historically has never been achieved by someone with his disability. the resolution is that he no longer has the disability.

also in the case of touya it talks about his experience having a quirk thats incompatible with his body and how that affects him and shapes him but then it just gets kinda pushed aside by endeavors influence on the situation and instead of talking about how touya was affected by a bad home life and struggling with disability and being unable to accept his limits, it just becomes "endeavor was bad at dealing with the situation and then touya became a villain" idk it just keeps skirting around this stuff that i think is important from both a world building perspective and also applicable to actual things that irl people deal with but ultimately it just dismisses it as unimportant. like objectively saying "hey the mc is considered disabled and then in chapter three is magically no longer disabled" is a dick move. yes he struggles with adjusting but like?? the emphasis was on the disability and then it immediately just removed that factor and moved on to a New Problem (oh no the quirk is Too Awesome) (because he didnt bother to do any sort of training or anything to reach his goal until all might was in the picture)

i went on a big tangent but tldr a lot of the problems i have with bnha are especially emphasized in the first five episodes or so and because of that and my lack of interest in the characters with the most screen time (sorry deku stans) i just cant stand the "training to get into ua" arc
