I met Fer Bulería for the first time in one of the clinics I teach and have also been able to follow its evolution in recent years. After having heard about him on numerous occasions because of his successful competition record in morphological competitions, upon seeing him in real life I was struck not only by the spectacular movements, but also by his athletic capacity, which is easily visible especially in his talent for the passage and piaffe. I always thought Fer Bulería is one of the best PRE I have ever seen.

Equestrian questions: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 11, 15, 17, 29
Wow, those are a lot of numbers ^^ thanks for asking, though! Aaaaand here we go :)
[1] my horses’ namesMy horse’s name is Calistra and the (pluesch)pony is named Walli.
[2] my favourite horse breed Gosh, this is kinda difficult, ‘cause I mostly say Holsteiner, but PREs are awesome, too, and Icelandic horses and and and ^^
[3] my discipline Short answer: dressage.Long answer: I started learning riding the normal English/FN way when I was younger and over the years I’ve had brief periods of riding Western horses, riding gaited horses, doing show jumping and some cross country, came into contact with classical riding and also a lot of different instructors and disciplines, but the one I think I’ve always pursued was dressage. Not in the way you (unfortunately) see it at most tournaments, but in the harmonious ‘dance’ between horse and rider for the physical and physiological benefit of the horse, not just for the thrill of riding certain movement. At least that’s the goal, but I tend to depend whatever I do on the actual horse, so when I had a horse who was completely scared whenever you tried to put any kind of contact/pressure on the bit, I just took him outside and we went for hacks. He was an absolute lovely horse and one of the most sweet and friendly ones I ever rode, but the owner kind of wasn’t very gentle with him (big understatement) so he would try rearing and backing up whenever he got scared, mostly if you did anything with the rains. So no dressage for him, just hacks. And the pony wasn’t too keen on dressage, like ever, so I kept it to a minimum if possible and tried stretching and a bit of groundwork for flexibility and took her for hacks or walks as much as possible - much more enjoyable for both of us ^^ So really, my discipline would be the one the respective horse enjoys as well.
[4] my favourite disciplineUps, I think I kinda answered that in [3] ^^ Though over the last couple of years my fascination with and love for liberty work has grown quite a bit.
[9] my favourite celebrity equestrianPfff, tough question, ‘cause I don’t really pay too much attention to equestrian celebrities, to be honest. I really, really like Eva Roemaat, though - does she count? Oh, and Frédéric Pignon!
[11] my favourite horse… is obviously my mare, Calistra and the pony, ‘cause I really, really cannot choose between those two!
[15] any riding injuries I haveLike right now? None, ‘cause I think the last time I rode is like a year ago or something ^^ But over the course of my riding career I’ve had bruises, once a light concussion and a dislocated vertebra in my spine (sort of) once. And one time I kinda let myself fall off, hit the ground flat on my back and the next day I really, really couldn’t move, because my whole body was hurting like crazy. But other than that, nothing, really - and hopefully it’ll remain that way ^^ (I tend to get more injured when I’m not riding - and most of the time not even when handling horses -.-’ ^^)
[17] my dream horseI already got my dream horse - Calistra. Like, she’s a bit crazy probably has ADHD, is so clumsy she always bumps into stuff and loves to buck/run around with me instead of when I turn her loose in the arena, ‘cause it’s more fun doing it next to me on the lead or when I’m sitting on her back, but I honestly wouldn’t change her for the world ^^ (except maybe to cure all her little injuries and conformation problems and stuff, so she could be 100% healthy!)
[29] an equestrian trend I don’t likeOh gosh, where do I begin? ^^ Like I’m generally a “live and let live” kind of person, but honestly, hyperflexion (sanctioned by the FN for a specific time at that) is one of the greatest crimes, like ever! Also the ‘letting the horse just run around in a circle on a long lead and calling it lunging’ stuff or the fact that no matter what the elite riders do, suddenly every amateur absolutely needs to do so as well, no matter if it’s good or bad for the horse. And most of all, I think it’s the “as much as possible as fast as possible” mentality. Before, the people still knew that in order to train a horse properly and have it last as a riding horse, they needed to have patience and give it time to learn and develop the necessary muscles and stamina. Nowadays it seems like everyone puts a saddle on a three year old and wants them to jump over 1,60m and/or do piaffe, passage and a Grand Prix level dressage by the time they’re four. And that’s something I will never, never ever understand…
(that turned out kinda long, sorry ^^)

How did you find Campano? Why did you choose him? What are your goals? How far did you travel? Was he bred by a known breeder? Does he have veiga lines?
Whoever you are, I love you!
One day I arrived at the barn and there was a new horse, a present to my trainers from a man who didn’t want the horse anymlre. He was a fat and lazy coming 6yo, but I fell in love, I rode him a few times and he was perfect from my point of view, even tho his canter was uncontrolled lmao I can’t even explain why I chose him, he just had… ‘something’
While I was trying to convince my father to get Campano, my trainers started training him, and literally no one thought he could end up being an upper-level Dressage horse but he suddenly showed a lot of talent. That plus knowing that he was really non spooky was why my father finally made up his mind and we bought him! So literally I just needed to do a 10 minute drive to the barn to get him!
For this year, my (riding) goals are being able to ride Campano piaffe/passage and taking him to uni with me. I have a more realistic one tho, showing him this summer lmao Idk if I’ll ever be able to ride such complicated movements but I’m kinda keen on it!
Nope, he wasn’t! He was local bred, but his mother has superb bloodlines and his father comes from very prestigious yeguadas! I’d love to link his pedigree but I’m on mobile :( And also no, he doesn’t have Veiga lines because he’s a PRE, not a Lusi! But FUN FACT he’s related to one of the founding studs of the Lusitano breed, Destinado!
Thank you so so much for asking these!

Fer Bulería, PRE Andalusian Grand Champion Stallion: This is the horse that arrived almost ten years ago to change my life from the inside out. In this photo he is 16 years old, training in his daily PSG/GP routine at Beatriz Ferrer Salat's fantastic installations at Villa Equus. What impresses me the most is the power of his heart and the will to always do more; at 21 years old he is still as powerful and willing. Still training at the PSG/GP level, yesterday we were focusing on the passage/piaffe parts of these programs with our trainer. Fer Bulería is available for breeding in Spain. We also have some first class offspring (stallions) for sale. If you want to see some of his offspring, we will be showing them during the SICAB week in Seville, Spain. More info via PM.

@captainbookamir Yeah! PREs (and lusis) are bred like freaking tanks. They are very stocky, but their backs are usually proportional to their legs (necks in PREs vary so much in size and leght it’s impossible to give them an accurate name). The shorter backs allow horses to have better collection, but they find it harder to extend their gaits. Mind you, look at Iberian breeds extended trots vs warmblood’s, but the compare both breeds’ piaffe!
A shorter back is usually useful for airs above the ground too, most of the breeds that find those exercises easier have them!
