I met Fer Bulería for the first time in one of the clinics I teach and have also been able to follow its evolution in recent years. After having heard about him on numerous occasions because of his successful competition record in morphological competitions, upon seeing him in real life I was struck not only by the spectacular movements, but also by his athletic capacity, which is easily visible especially in his talent for the passage and piaffe. I always thought Fer Bulería is one of the best PRE I have ever seen.

PRE breeders are doing a better and better job breeding purebred Spanish horses for FEI dressage. This is PRE Andalusian stallion Ambicioso VG, a son of Fer Bulería, competing at the Royal Polo in Barcelona, ridden by Spanish competition rider Marc Amat. After debuting with such success in dressage in Spain, Ambicioso VG is now at a British dressage stable owned by a UK Olympic rider. We hope very much to be seeing him compete on the British dressage arenas soon. See more photos of Ambicioso VG competing here.

A Very Tall and Skinny PRE Mare
Hiedra VG (Joyero Salvatella x Mañosa V). Breeder: Yeguada Velasco Gonzales, 2010. Age: 3 years/años. Height: 16.3hh / 170 cm. Breed: Pura Raza Española (PRE)
In these photos, Hiedra VG is only three years old, and just under saddle. In the selection process, she was selected for her height and movements, and not her beauty. At 16.3hh / 170 cm when three years old, Hiedra is extremely tall for a purebred Spanish horse. She has naturally uphill movements as well as three very good gaits.
We plan to breed her to Fer Bulería, who gives class and beauty to his offspring, and in this way to hopefully get beautiful, Spanish-type FEI dressage movers.

Young Horse Evaluation
Tumblr media
Quality Requires Attention
This weekend we were honored by the visit of one of Spain’s most highly respected dressage riders, who arrived to help out with the evaluation of our young horses.
We like to give much attention to the quality of the horses we breed and select for dressage. Because of this, ever since the start of the CavalReal project, we have cooperated with leading breed and dressage experts who possess the depth of knowledge required.
Appearing in the early afternoon, we spent the entire evening looking at the young ones, handled and ridden by the trainer we have selected for them.
These are some of the things we take great care to evaluate:
Quality of movements
Bone structure
Legs, backs, hooves
Temperament
Ease of learning
As the sun was setting over the land, we were happy to sit down and share our thoughts, ideas and inputs around each horse together with our friend. It is a great joy be able to share our love and passion for the purebred Spanish horse with knowledgeable individuals who have dedicated their lives to riding, training and competing purebred Spanish horses in Spain and worldwide.
Although it requires investments in terms of time and money, we like to give this attention to our young horses, to learn how to best develop and work with them in the months and years ahead. We also like the idea that each horse has his or her perfect future owner, and the better we understand each individual horse, the better we will be able to help make the match later on in his or her life.

In my opinion you want to breed with Fer Bulería first because of his bloodline, full of famous and fantastic brothers and sisters, and because Fer Bulería himself is one of the most merited stallions in all of Spain. Second, his breeder Mr. Ferrero was interested in buying him back to use as stud stallion and also Yeguada Centurion asked to buy him for the same reason, and expert breeders like Rafael Camacho has bought semen from him, and these people are not silly. But third, and most importantly, you want to breed with Fer Bulería because he is one of the most complete stallions available to PRE breeders today.

Dominante Real – PRE Andalusian Foal 2017
Dominante Real (Fer Bulería x Gala VG, CavalReal 2017) | With his beauty, movements and noble character, Dominante is probably our most beautiful offspring so far. He has a positive attitude, much grace and a fertile, creative mind. As far as we can tell at his young age, because he seems to be a very complete horse we recommend him for PRE breeding, morphology competition, pleasure riding or dressage. Son of Fer Bulería and one of our best mares. | See his page here: www.cavalrealportfolio.com

Gaits in the PRE Horse: The Walk
Tumblr media
The Walk in the PRE Andalusian Horse
In a purebred Spanish horse, it is not uncommon to see a very good to excellent trot. More rare is a good walk or canter.
PRE sport horse breeders are working hard to change this, but it is a long and difficult journey.
Originally, the Spanish horse would be used in war and for the hard work with the bulls in the fields. As times changed, the Spanish brought their beautiful horses to fiestas, and used them for carriage driving and parades. In these activities, an expressive trot with high knee action was fashionable, and breeders developed the trot, more or less to the exclusion of the others.
As a result, the trot in many PRE Andalusians can be quite good, while the walk and canter can be disappointing from a sport horse point of view. Purebred Spanish horses with three good gaits is a quite rare occurrence.
