Took some time this afternoon to donate blood platelets for the American Red Cross, and got to watch a couple episodes of one of my favorite documentaries called “The Power of Myth” featuring Joseph Campbell. . Things like this documentary, and certain books I’ll watch and read multiple times, seeing if I can discover or glean something new or differently than I did before. . Especially where personal growth is concerned, I have found this to be a very productive practise. Human psychology and spirituality are or particular interest to me anyhow. . The information presented never changes, but the condition you are in DOES change. Hence you can have a new or different experience and new takeaways. . Never stop learning, especially about yourself. #Repost @coachguillien with @get_repost ・・・ Back in January I weighed 243lbs. Weightlifting was bothersome to my back and hip so I let the obstacle be the way. It led me to prowlers and swings. But through this transformation what you see is me down 25lbs give or take. What you don't see is the transformation of my mind and soul. Like the hero's journey I believe we are all on, I arrived at a point. And in this point I had been preparing since I was a little boy. From depression to suicide thoughts almost daily at times to writing down my aspirations as an intern. These formative days of trial after trial were preparing for the demon I was needing to slay in order to realize my dreams on this realm. As I rise each day with eagerness I am often brought back to what life used to be like. I remember the pain from being a dreamer that didn't practice every day. I remember people telling me to not be so hard on myself and to lower the standard at which I see myself able to reach. But it was the ego - the demon that was holding me back. I thought it was me thinking of the doubtful thoughts. It wasn't. But I listened. I listened for 27 years. But now when I listen to the demon I know whet it's trying to do. It schemes end whispers lies. It does its best to stop me. But I've gone inside as Joseph Campbell calls the belly of the whale. I've gone into the abyss and crawled out. And on this beautiful journey, I've found my bliss. Seemingly helped by magic hands all along the way. Now I embark on the next journey. Where it will take only the gods know. All I know is daily practice. Daily discipline. It's my task . My mission while I am here in earth. Keeping the demon in its rightful place. As I coach and teach - it's my duty to serve. I'm ready.
