Technically, he shouldn't feel jealous. They've been joined at the hip since they were in diapers. They know each other better than they know themselves. There isn't a day that goes by without them thinking of one another. Their names are the first that come to mind when they've had a terrible day and need to vent their frustration, or when they see something in a supermarket, a store, or on the street, and it's like ah, this reminds me of that time with Hajime… and also, Tooru would love this because once…
That's why Oikawa knows he shouldn't be jealous. But the fancam made of his boyfriend during Japan's first match already has over 1M likes, 280k comments, 370k saves, and 478k shares. It's not that he particularly minds the fancam—after all, Iwa-chan always had an appeal that only intensified when he moved to California. And the video captures his best moments. Hajime crossing his arms over his chest. Hajime chewing gum during the match and smiling at a comment from Gao. Hajime frowning at the tablet, his lips twisted in that endearing grimace he always makes when he's concentrating. Hajime laughing. Hajime, arms crossed again, stopping a ball coming out of the area with his foot and making toe taps before passing it to the ball boy with a perfect pass. Hajime winking. Hajime leaning back in his chair, legs stretched out, eyes fixed on the game.
In reality, it's Oikawa's favorite video. He has it saved on his phone, in the favorites album, and also a copy on his laptop's hard drive just in case. Oh, and another one uploaded to the cloud. But that's not the main point; it's the comments. Hundreds of thousands of those comments are basically people drooling over his man (he gets it, he really does, but Hajime is still his, and Tooru has never been one to share much of what's his). Although he got over it, because in every shot, the ring on Hajime's ring finger is completely visible (and the cause of the other hundreds of thousands of comments theorizing who the lucky person is).
However, what he definitely can't get over and what left him gaping with eyes wide open was the latest viral video featuring Iwaizumi (which Makki sent him just two minutes after it was posted, along with a "loool bro u should’ve come to japan"). And it's not another fancam (he wished it was another fancam, why on earth wasn't it a fancam), but a video of him, back to the camera, giving Ushifuckingwaka a fucking pectoral massage.
His boyfriend, future husband, life partner, the sun of his galaxy, his grumpy hedgehog, his man touching Ushiwaka. Touching Ushiwaka's pectorals. And he understands that it's Iwa-chan's job because he's an athletic trainer who trains athletes athletically, and Oikawa has enjoyed (many, many times) his unbeatable massages, but why the hell does it have to be him touching Ushiwaka as if there aren't any other athletic trainers on the team, damn it.
And to top it off, there are all the annoying comments from people theorizing that Ushiwaka is the lucky one and that it's a romantic moment (UGH, just UGH) between husband and husband.
So, Oikawa decides to do what he does best (well, the fifth best thing after annoying/loving Hajime, being the best setter in the world, kissing, and keeping his hair fluffy for more than two days): set social media on fire.
After the second set of the Argentina vs. Japan match, Oikawa approaches one of the cameras focusing on the Argentine team during the break. With his best smile, he asks the cameraman for a marker, who gladly hands it over. He approaches the lens, holding it with one hand while removing the cap of the marker with his mouth. Then, he writes: Iwaizumi Hajime es mío!! next to a smiley face with its tongue sticking out (but, after thinking about it for two seconds, he removes the cap from his mouth to ask for a napkin and erase the last two words to rewrite them in English). Then, he returns the marker, pulls out the necklace from under his sweaty shirt, and playfully shows the ring hanging from the chain, mouthing again: it’s mine and only mine.
Oikawa doesn’t see it because he has his back turned, but a few meters away, on the Japanese bench, Iwaizumi, who is watching everything along with the rest of the team, simply flushes red up to his eyebrows and covers his face with both hands. Of course, swearing.
...
this was the trigger for this drabble

“There’s no point in continuing. I say we stop for today and go home,” Hajime huffs. He doesn’t even receive a verbal response, just a book getting clapped shut very pointedly. Who would have thought that the Oikawa Tooru, the college’s king of the volleyball court, gets frustrated by something so mundane like a group project.
Hajime’s watching his friend’s face carefully as he grumpily packs his bag. He’s avoiding eye contact, he realizes and knows that Shittykawa is in a rather delicate state right now; one wrong word or look or movement will make him snap. They are not even that far behind with their work but Shittykawa’s problem – since he’s been a child – is that he’s a freaking perfectionist; and their project is, so far, anything but perfect, and it will probably never be. Obviously. It’s just some stupid homework for some stupid class that’s not even important enough to pass with good grades. But no matter how many times Hajime tries to make him realize that, his stubborn friend doesn’t want to listen.
So, they pack up and leave the library. Just outside they part ways with a brief “See you tomorrow” and walk in opposite directions.
Hajime’s halfway to the bus stop, rummaging through his bag and searching for his earphones, when he sees a notebook that doesn’t belong to him in there. Shit, he must have taken Shittykawa’s when he’s been in a rush to get out of the library – or rather, away from his best friend’s bad mood. He curses under his breath and turns around to go back to the direction of which he’s come from. Luckily, Shittykawa’s house is not as far away as his and perfectly reachable by foot. When he walks past the library again, he will probably need another ten minutes to arrive.
Hajime sighs. Hopefully, the fresh air will help his friend to calm down. He’s really not in the mood to deal with anymore tantrums.
A little while later he arrives at the apartment complex and enters. His feet automatically carry him to Shittykawa’s flat – it’s pure muscle memory at this point – and he knocks against the door. There is no response, but Hajime is sure that he must have arrived at home just a few minutes ago. Well, perhaps he’s made a detour to the convenience store, or to you – he’s made a comment about meeting you later today, Hajime thinks – or he just deliberately decides to ignore the knock.
Anyways, Hajime wants to get home and has little to no patience left to run after his sullen, forgetful ass of a friend. He could search for the spare key Shittykawa has given him when he has moved in, somewhere in the depths of his bag, but he doesn’t feel like it and rather tests his luck. To his surprise, he is successful when he tries to open the door.
So, Shittykawa is home. That asshole.
Hajime enters, takes off his shoes and is about to throw a snarky remark into the small, seemingly empty flat of his friend – he must be in the bath or bedroom, then – when he suddenly halts.
He hears a muffled voice coming out of his friend’s bedroom. There’s soft speaking, too quiet for him to understand, and… and a sob? Has Oikawa’s frustration gotten the best of him now? Hajime approaches the door that’s left ajar and immediately stops as he realizes the sound is not coming from him.
It’s coming from you.
From his position he catches a glance inside the bedroom, and his breath hitches for a brief second. The sight he finds is – and he’d never thought he’ll use this word earnestly – nothing but endearing. You lie on the bed, turned sideways and wearing a hoodie too big for you that Hajime recognizes as one of Oikawa’s. He’s crouching right in front of you, his face on the same level as yours. His bag is still strapped on his back, and he still wears his dark blue coat for outside. Given his attire, he apparently has barely managed to slip out of his shoes before he has come rushing to you. Probably he has heard your sob as he’s entered, just like Hajime has, or maybe you have called out to him when you’ve heard him arriving home.
It’s no surprise to meet you in Oikawa’s flat since, besides Hajime, you are the other person he has given one of his spare keys to. Seeing you in such a devastated state that left you crying, though, is something Hajime hasn’t encountered before. He has met you a few times before but you’re not particularly close. Yet, he hopes that you’re okay and that your tears are just caused by a stressful day.
But Oikawa doesn’t appear to be in distress, so it couldn’t be something too serious going on. His face carries a soft expression, and his gentle mumbling is soothing, even to Hajime’s ears. With the back of his fingers he strokes your cheeks, maybe wipes away some tears. Compared to his state half an hour ago, frustrated to a point in which even a magpie like him has grown dangerously quiet, this is a completely different man over there. He’s calm, collected and quiet.
Hajime can’t help but feel a little proud at his best friend, and astonished, too, for him to have a side that Hajime, deep down, has known to exist but has so very rarely encountered.
“I’ll be with you in a second,” he hears Oikawa say quietly. “Just let me get changed first.”
Apparently, you disagree with his choice and move to wrap your arms around his neck, forcing him to stay in his crouching position. You don’t say anything but your tight grip on him speaks volumes.
“There, there,” Oikawa laughs. “Let me breath at least, will you?”
If you have heard him, you decide not to act on it and remain in your position. Oikawa can barely move but he somehow manages to slide his bag off his shoulders and peel himself out of his coat. “Clingy kitten,” he scolds without any malice.
It’s then when Hajime snaps out of some kind of trance and realizes that he is watching someone else’s intimacy. Something he hasn’t been invited to. He witnesses softness and tenderness, and it kind of melts his heart, but it’s not his moment to take part in. Shit, he’s not some creepy pervert.
Quickly and as quietly as possible, he puts the notebook on the kitchen table. As he turns to leave, he catches one final glance at the bedroom in which Oikawa apparently has surrendered as you cuddle into him whose lying next to you now, still wearing the same clothes he’s worn in the library earlier. The bag and coat are discarded and forgotten on the floor. You seem to have calmed down, at least a bit.
Hajime leaves and quietly closes the door behind him. As he walks to his bus stop, what he’s seen just now keeps replaying in his head. Shittykawa often makes annoying remarks about how Hajime surely is jealous of him having such a wonderful, lovely and beautiful girlfriend. Hajime usually smacks him for these kind of comments but right now he – and god forbid he’ll ever say it out loud – can’t help but feel a small pang in his chest. Not because he wants you, of course, because you belong to that idiot, and how could it be any different? No, he hasn’t realized before but he lowkey yearns for… someone. Someone to share moments like this with.
He sighs and plugs his earphones in while waiting for the bus. And although they have a project due and he’ll probably have to work on it a little more as soon as he gets home – because let’s be honest, Shittykawa won’t get shit done today – he still smiles.
For now, Hajime actually feels happy for his asshole of a friend. Very much so, even.

Summary- Oikawa, after a fresh loss to Shiratorizawa Academy in the Interhigh Preliminaries, finds himself sitting down in a hallway away from the rest of his team trying to cool off. While waiting for the bus to be ready to take the dejected Seijoh volleyball team back to their school a girl runs into him. Assuming she’s one of his fangirls he puts on his trademark smile and is taken aback when she doesn’t seem all that charmed.
5.4k words
Being dragged through a crowd of people through an unfamiliar building to watch a volleyball game wasn’t your idea of a good way to spend your Saturday, but here you were. Coerced by your friends promises that it would be fun, or at the very least interesting. Mei was friends with one of Oikawa's fangirls, Chiyo. After witnessing her obsession over Oikawa and dedicating herself to attending every match Seijoh played both home games and away games no matter what. Mei had developed a curiosity as to what could cause so many girls to spend this much of their free time on a sport they don’t even play.
However, not wanting to watch the match with a bunch of girls squealing about something she isn’t quite as passionate about, she opted to not join Chiyo at the match against Shiratorizawa Academy. Instead opting to drag you and your other friend Emi Out to the match with her. Emi, equally as curious about the games as her, more than willing to spend her Saturday at the match.
You yourself were not as easily convinced but ultimately coerced with Mei’s pleas and promises that you wouldn’t regret going. “Come on (Y/N) It will be fun! The fan club has got to be on to something for all of them to be this obsessed and dedicated.”
You rolled your eyes at her “The something they are on is their fantasies about the team”
Emi chimed in with a comment you had no interest in being privy to. “I mean, it’s not exactly unreasonable. Our school's volleyball team is hot. Surely even you can see it.”
You shot her a glare as she giggled at your expense. “I’m not judging them for liking the team, but I have no interest in fawning over any of the players myself.”
“I think the match will be interesting to watch. I just would much rather spend my Saturday at home, or hanging out at a cafe or something like we usually do.”
But to your dismay Mei was persistent, and had gotten Emi on her side resulting in you being where you were now. Standing outside a huge building with a crowd of people around you walking through the doors, and chattering loudly in their groups. ‘So many people are here, I guess it makes since it is the finals’
Mei pulled you out of your thoughts and the spot you were previously standing. “Come on, we should hurry inside so we can get good seats!”
Emi agreed with her quickly walking in step with Mei as she dragged you through the front door “Yeah, we should definitely go in now, didn’t you say Chiyo told you that all of Seijoh’s matches were packed?”
You couldn’t help the sarcasm that dripped from your tongue. “Ah yes, we needed Chiyo's words to tell us that the place we are currently at that’s filled to the brim with people is in fact packed.”
Emi was quick to poke you in the side but had otherwise ignored what you said, while Mei just laughed still dragging you along, and now straight through the front doors of the massive building.
Immediately you were overwhelmed with the heat that only comes from too many people being confined in one area, and unintelligible, loud, gibberish from too many conversations happening at once. ‘How are there more people inside than outside?’
Emi, and Mei were clearly nowhere near as bothered as you were by the new environment you had entered into. Talking amongst themselves about which way to go to get to the court. You weren’t paying much attention to the conversation though, content to let Mei continue to drag you around until the match was over and you could go home.
It only took a few minutes for Mei and Emi to decide where to go, once again dragging you along. As they led you down multiple different long hallways, taking many different turns you looked around at all the people in the overcrowded building, and you couldn’t help but find yourself wishing you were anywhere but here. The unnerving presence of everything around you is taking its toll on you. Being around other people in general wasn’t really your thing, but crowds were even worse bringing out an overwhelming sense of danger and panic.
Although as much as you still hate crowds you have made progress in leaps and bounds with your tolerance to them. ‘I’m never going to like being surrounded by strangers. How is this enjoyable to everyone? I doubt everyone else is fighting against their disdain to participate in activities.’
‘I mean surely if they were then there wouldn’t be a crowd at all. Everyone would just stay home.’
‘I wish I had just stayed home.’
Once again you were pulled out of your thoughts by a now very exited Mei now standing in the doorway leading into the court “Yes! There’s still some good seats!”
Emi seemed to brim with just as much excitement as Mei did “People must be hanging out in and around the building until it gets closer to the time the match will start. This is perfect, we'll be able to see the game clearly in front row seats!”
‘Front row seats? This is the finals, and there's already so many people here. How are there front row seats available right now?’
This time when Mei moved to drag you she was met with resistance as you planted your feet into the ground fixing her with an angry look from the depths of your soul. “Mei… why are there so many seats available right now?”
Emi bent over laughing as Mei was left with a cheeky albeit slightly nervous look on her face. “Well, ya know… good seats are important to properly experiencing a game for the first time.”
“We want to watch the match, not the back of people's heads.”
Emi managed to stop laughing long enough to save her from being the one to tell you the information they had been withholding from you. “The match doesn’t start for another hour.”
“You told me to be ready to leave by two P.M sharp! So we would be here by three for the match!” you seethed
Emi was quick to retort. “Well, you could have taken the time to look into what your dearest friends are interested in. Then you would have known the match started at four and not three!”
The irritation was bubbling up in your veins, and you were about to lay into them both for deceiving you, but before you could,
“Mei?”
The three of you spun around to see who was calling the lying brats your friends name.
Mei’s face lit up and she walked over to embrace the girl. “Chiyo!”
Chiyo and the other fangirls that accompanied her to the game greeted Mei, and probably said something to you and Emi as well, but you were not paying any attention to that. Instead Glaring into the back of Mei’s skull with a look that could kill.
Even when Chiyo and her friends left you three in favor of going to go find seats your eyes didn’t move from the back of Mei’s head.
And as Mei slowly turned around you deadpanned “You made us get here before even the fangirls got here.”
Emi once again burst into laughter. “I don’t know what you are laughing about! You’re just as bad! You two might as well have let me stay home and gone with Chiyo and her friends, you would fit right in.” you stated in exasperation while rolling your eyes.
“What was the plan here? Sit around and do nothing for an entire hour?” you continued.
Mei shrugged at your irritation. “Relax, it’s only an hour, and it will be worth it for the good seats!”
“Oh really? And you of course would know this seeing as you're the expert at watching volleyball games despite never being to one either.” you spat
Despite upholding your sarcasm you had already resigned yourself to the hour of boredom, and the volleyball match that stood in your way of going home. You cared about your friends and they cared about you. You wouldn’t dream of interacting with other people the way you interacted with them. You were grateful that they had patience with you around this kind of stuff, even if you weren’t thrilled to be hanging out in a crowd at a volleyball game, you were willing to sit through it for your friends.
So you let Mei and Emi lead you to front row seats and decided to try and not be as hostile. You really didn’t mean to be, it was just the overstimulation getting to you. Even now when the bleachers were empty enough for front row seats to still be available it was loud.
Emi and Mei chattered on about all the assignments that their math teacher had assigned for homework over the weekend to pass the time.
“Ugh, (Y/N) you have no idea how lucky you are to have a different math class!” Emi whined.
“No kidding.” Mei added in solemn agreement.
“At least if I was in your math class we would all be together instead of me being alone.”
Mei was quick to shut your thought process down. “Or we could have all been blessed to be in your math class.”
“The people next to me in my math class talk the entire lecture, you’d never get anything done.”
“But no, instead me and Mei get four whole pages of homework!” Emi pouted, ignoring your comment entirely.
“Over the weekend!” Mei continued pouting as well.
You rolled your eyes with a small smile at their complaints. Your math class might not assign as much homework as theirs did but the exams were brutal, and you know once one of them creeped closer your complaints would match theirs.
The more time that passed the more people would slowly trickle into the room, filling up the available seats. As apprehensive as you were to be an hour early, time wasn’t going as slowly as you had thought it would. Just when there was only fifteen minutes before the match was scheduled to start, a sea of people flooded through the doors, all of them rushing to find any available seats they could.
A chill ran down your spine at the idea of a bigger crowd than you had been expecting. You had thought that the already crowded bleachers would be it, maybe a few stragglers, but definitely not another huge crowd of people.
Your mind was growing foggy, not being able to take in all of the things going on, lungs not refusing to take in enough air, short quick breaths taking place instead of the stable slower ones you logically knew you needed, but logic played no part in panic.
‘No, no, no, not again, I need to calm down.’
‘Nothing’s wrong! Everything is fine!’
‘I’ve gotten better.’
‘So why can’t I breathe?’
The familiar stinging sensation as your eyes started to fill with tears was not helping you ground yourself. Just as the breath catching in your lungs was about to push you over the edge, the world graced you with the distraction you needed to ground yourself back into reality. ~THWACK~
A stray volleyball flew through the air at impossible speeds hitting the wall directly underneath your seat. The players had entered the court and started warming up without you even realising it, too caught up in your head.
~Oikawa’s POV~
“Oi, If you’re going to miss terribly, send the ball into your team's cheer section, not mine.” Oikawa goaded at the spiker who had sent the stray ball flying.
Iwaizumi was dragging him away from the spiker within seconds.“Stop wasting our warm up time trashykawa!”
“Awww, Iwa-chan come on.”
“No! Go warm up!”
Oikawa went to grab a volleyball and start warming up, but turned towards the spiker sticking out his tongue, and pulling his left eye down to continue taunting him. “Watch carefully so I can introduce you to this thing we call aim.”
~Readers POV~
Even from the stands it was obvious Oikawa had been childishly teasing the other team's spiker, with your now clear head you had enough sense to roll your eyes at the childish antics your school's team captain was displaying.
You watched as Oikawa walked over to the serving line and rhythmically bounced the ball twice against the floor of the court before tossing it high into the air, jumping up after it, slamming his palm against it with immense strength, sending it barreling over the net straight into the ground on the other side of the court.
You didn’t even notice the noise of the crowd that had sent you spiraling just a few minutes prior. Just sitting there staring at the ball that had now rolled to a stop after its journey through the air.
As it turned out, knowing that your school's volleyball team was powerful and seeing it first hand were two different things.
“Wow, Chiyo and her friends are definitely on to something obsessing over him.” Mei laughed
“He was hot before that, but damn.” Emi tacked on
You couldn’t control the eye roll you gave them if you tried. “Really, that's where your mind goes from that?”
“That's not where your mind goes after witnessing that?” Emi asked, wiggling her eyebrows in a highly disturbing manner. Laughing at you with Mei.
“I’m sorry for being the normal one.” you deadpanned.
Mei pointed towards Chiyo and her friends who were still cheering Oikawa's name, praising him for his serve. “We’re the majority, you’re the weird one!”
“It's healthy to have your attention caught every once in a while. How else are you supposed to get motivation to get out of bed if not from hot boys?” Emi teased.
“Eventually we’re going to find someone that catches your eye, and we’re gonna get you a boyfriend!” Mei joined in with Emi’s teasing.
You turned red with both embarrassment and irritation. “I don’t want a boyfriend, go back to leering creepily at the volleyball team and leave me alone.”
“Awww, you’re all red (Y/N) look at her Mei, maybe she’s thinking of someone that already caught her eye, maybe you made her think of going on a date with him!”
Forget irritation now you felt anger course through your veins, you were ready to tear into them both when Mei spoke first. “Pfft, nah, if she thought of someone like that for even a fraction of a second she’d spontaneously combust on the spot! She’s the most emotionally constipated person I’ve ever met, no way could she hide her feelings!”
“Trueeee” Emi agreed with Mei howling in laughter together as your face burned in shame and fury.
“Shut up.”
Fortunately the match had started so your bullies friends opted to settle down and watch the match instead of continuing making fun of you for your disinterest in dating.
~Oikawa’s POV~
Shiratorizawa won the coin toss, meaning they were serving first. The pressure was on, the simmering rivalry was being brought to an all out boil in his veins. The desire to win against Ushijima for once instead of taking home the bitter bile of yet another loss burning him to his core.
‘We’re going to beat them this time. We have to.’
Tsutomu Goshiki sent a powerful serve over the net not with as much power as Ushijima or himself would be able to, but with an amount of power that showed exactly why he was a part of the coveted Shiratorizawa team.
Watari was able to receive the ball, sending it straight up and directly to him allowing him to set to Iwaizumi.
‘Come on Iwa, we could use an early point.’
Iwaizumi jumped after the ball, hitting it with all his might clearly on the same page of ending the first rally early and in their favor, but Shiratorizawa was able to receive the ball with relative ease.
The tension on the team was palpable. The guess monster creep didn’t even block Iwaizumi’s spike and they were still unable to score the point.
The team couldn’t afford to be distraught over this, the ball was already hurling back over the net from the force of ushijima’s powerful spike.
Despite the minor sense of dejection that the team faced from the failed attempt, Hanamaki stepped up and managed to receive the impressive spike with the help of Matsukawa’s one touch.
The ball was off course but that didn’t matter as long as the ball didn’t touch their side of the court. Iwaizumi dived after the ball, bumping it back into the air and to their teams control tower once again.
Shaking off the failed spike himself, he went to set the ball to Kindaichi. Watching as Kindaichi jumped into the air getting ready to strike, he instead dumped the ball over the net. Watching Ushijima’s face as Hayato Yamagata, Satori Tendō, dived after the ball but failed to receive it. Enjoying the look of frustration that passed over his features. “Oh Ushijima, you gotta be smart, don’t tell me you’re all brawn no brains. A top three ace but couldn’t stop a setter dump?”
Ushijima glared at him through the net. “That trick will only work once. You’ve never won against us before, you won’t win against us now, our teams simply better than yours.
Rage simmered underneath his skin. Iwaizumi pulled him out of his blind fury. “Oikawa! Stop arguing, and let's win this, he’ll have to eat his words when we crush them before we even get to a third set.”
“Yeah… lets win this time.”
He was focused now, it was about damn time they won against the powerhouse that always seemed to be the thing standing in his way. Ushijima’s words didn’t matter, they had scored the first point after all, and they definitely wouldn’t matter when they won.
‘Well those words will matter when I get to rub them in his ugly face.’
“Oikawa, fix your face, and get ready! It’s our turn to serve!”
“Fine fine, calm down Iwa-chan I’m ready.”
The game went on, each team fighting for points to be able to take the first set for themselves. Ultimately it was Seijoh who walked away with the first set managing to edge out Shiratorizawa by two points.
The team erupted into cheers thrilled to be able to have taken the first set by two points nonetheless. Much better than previous games they played against Shiratorizawa, things were looking really promising.
Hope, and adrenaline were bubbling up inside him, he was excited to stand against Ushijima and take the lead. This was it, he was finally going to beat Ushijima, and then he was going to go on to nationals.
‘Everythings finally going my way, all the hard work is actually going to pay off, all the late practices, and even later solo training afterwards is all going to be worth it.’
‘Ushijima, I’m going to show you that I’m worthy to play against those of you with raw talent.’
‘That I’m just as good as you, even if I have to work for it.’
Point, after point, after point. It was slipping through his fingers and it seemed that no matter how hard he tried he was useless to stop it. Shiratorizawa took the second set by six points. Six points. More than double what Seijoh had taken the first by.
“Tch, six whole points!”
‘And to think, were were so fucking happy to have won the first one by a measly two points.’
“Calm down Oikawa. We’ll take the next set.” Iwaizumi tried to soothe the sting of the blatant loss of the set, but even he himself didn’t seem all that convinced.
The whole team was falling into their dejection, he as the captain, and control tower of the game, needed to get everyone in gear. Raise moral, but he couldn’t drag himself out of the pit his mind had dug him into.
The third and final set began with Seijoh still feeling the sting of the second set, but they had no more time between sets. It was game time weather they were ready or not.
Once again Ushijima Shiratorizawa scored far too many points in succession. Oikawa himself and all of his teammates were all exhausted. Spending all of their energy futilely trying to defend against the brutal attacks sent their way, and left with not nearly enough energy to counterattack. Not in the way they needed to in order to win at least.
It was Ushijimas set point, Hayato Yamagata had received Kunimi’s last attack, and Eita Semi was setting the ball to Ushijima to carry out the final blow to his dreams.
The ball flew through the air on course to slam directly onto their side of the court at a horrifying speed.
“NO NO NO!”
His legs were heavy with impending exhaustion, and yet he dove for the ball anyways in desperation.
But it didn’t matter, his effort wasn’t nearly enough. The ball slammed into the ground an entire foot away from him. The whistle blew for the last time and it was over.
He had lost.
Again.
~Readers POV~
Half the gym erupted into cheers, while the other half muttered to each other in disappointment of their team losing, your friends a part of the latter.
“Awww damn, I really thought they had it after they won the first set!” Mei whined
“I know! I thought for sure they had it in the bag!” Emi joined in.
“…Yeah.” You were still staring at the court, one half celebrating, and the other half, your half standing on the court with an air of despair around them.
It was unsettling to say the least, it was reaching you all the way in the stands and making your guts twist in an unfamiliar way. It was different than anything else you've experienced before, nothing like the feeling your anxiety gives you. You knew that the feelings you were getting from being in their proximity could have only been a fraction of what the team still on the court were feeling.
‘Both teams were so good at the game, they both deserved to win, and yet one of them is walking away with nothing.’
“Well, I think it was well worth coming even if Seijoh didn’t win, that was so intense, it was exhilarating!” Emi squealed.
“Do you even know what that word means?” You teased.
“HEY! I used it in a sentence correctly didn’t I? Have some faith in me jeez!” Emi retorted
Mei joined you in laughter as people around you started to gather their things and head to the exit. “We should wait until it clears out a bit before leaving, that way we don’t have to deal with the insane crowd of people while trying to leave.” Mei proposed.
“Definitely, since we got here early the crowd on the way out will be much worse than it was when we first got here.” Emi agreed
‘Worse than when we got here?’
You shuddered at the thought of that. “Yeah. let's do that then.”
Eventually the majority of people had made their way out and only your little group and a few other groups of stragglers remained, Chiyo's group being one of them.
“Hey mei! Did you guys enjoy the match?” Chiyo asked excitedly
“Yeah, it was really cool, but… uh shouldn’t you be a little disappointed? I mean Oikawa lost, don’t you like him?” Mei asked
“Well yeah, but he looked so cool the entire time! I mean did you see those amazing serves he got in? And oh my god when he…” Chiyo's entire group seemed to light up at the opportunity to rave about Oikawa.
You found yourself tuning it out drifting off into your own mind. ‘I guess that's really what it is then. Superficial, even when it’s so obvious the loss took a great toll on him and the team, the only thing they notice is how cool they think he is.’
‘I mean there's nothing really wrong with it there, not actually friends with him they just admire him and he plays into it happily enjoying the attention.’
‘Both sides are happy with it, a win win I guess.’
“And when he dumped the ball right in front of Ushijima!” Chiyo gushed.
Your mouth moved before your brain could catch up. “That was really interesting…”
Mei and Emi shot you a look, but otherwise took mercy on you considering you were in front of Chiyo and her friends.
Chiyo squealed in excitement at your agreement, and you immediately decided you needed an escape plan.
“I’m going to go to the bathroom before we leave.”
“Okay, we’ll wait here for you, and then we can head home when you get back.” Emi said, chuckling at your eagerness to leave before Chiyo could gush directly to you about Oikawa.
“Oh, and maybe we can stop at a cafe on the way home!” Mei added clearly her way of trying to appease you for dragging you to the match.
That perked you up, the thought of a sweet treat making your mouth water. You decided you’d accept her appeasement. “Yeah, that sounds nice!”
With that you started walking to the bathroom, or at least in the direction you hoped the bathroom was, but ten minutes later and still no bathroom in sight you were starting to get frustrated
‘I should have paid more attention when they were dragging me through the halls. Where even am I right now?’
‘Why is this place so big, what is this, the imperial palace?’
As you continued walking down the big halls you came to a smaller more secluded hallway. Sitting against the wall holding a volleyball in his hands was none other than Oikawa, sitting with the devastating anguish of the loss. The proximal feelings you had gotten all the way in the stands were amplified by being this close to him, and being able to see the expression on his face made empathy bubble up inside you.
“Oh…”
You didn’t mean to say anything out loud but it was too late now his head snapped towards you. The look in his eyes was intense, it made you uneasy, you were half tempted to turn on your heels and walk away.
Instead your face twisted into a weak smile, trying to be sympathetic to the boy sitting in front of you. You were quiet when you spoke again, surprising yourself that any words came out at all.
“You… you played well, I’m sorry you lost…”
And just like that the intense expression on his face evaporated right along with the thick tension in the air. Instead an overly friendly smile graced his features.
“Oh thank you! I’m glad you came out to watch me, and are still happy to have come out even though we lost.”
“I’m grateful to have such sweet fans like you!” He said now spinning the volleyball on one of his fingers, putting on a show.
You felt like you had just been given whiplash with how quickly the atmosphere changed. The cocky bastard thought you were one of his fangirls, and that was all it took to perk him up. Conceited brat was all for someone stroking his ego. To the point that even the lame condolence you gave was enough for him to create a false narrative of worship in his head.
The irritation at his assumptions was getting to you.
“I’m not your fan.” You involuntarily rolled your eyes as you said it.
“No need to be embarrassed! I really am happy to have fans like you, and I mean why else would you come looking for me after my match? No need to be shy or anything, would you like a photo? Maybe an autograph?”
‘This little! Son of a! I can’t even with him! Is he serious?’
Your face twisted up into frustration, and the heat was scorching your face from your irritation. Heat and frustration he was clearly misinterpreting as something else only further serving to tick you off.
“Awww, here don’t worry you don’t have to ask.” he grabbed a piece of paper and a pen from his bag jotting down his name before getting up and walking over to you, volleyball forgotten on the ground where he was sitting. He held the paper out in front of him as you stared at him incredulously.
“Here take it, It’s made just for you!”
“I told you I’m not one of your fans!” you blurted out, and you were helpless to stop the exasperated word vomit that followed.
“I didn’t come looking for you, I just wanted to find the stupid bathroom so I can go home! I didn’t even want to come watch the dumb game in the first place!”
“…Oh… well… sorry.” he said half haphazardly in reaction to your minor mental break.
“I didn’t mean to assume you know who I am, I just figured since you came to the game and came to talk to me in the hallway that you at least liked me a little bit.” he teased.
“I already told you I didn’t come to talk to you on purpose.” You seethed.
He just giggled at you, shooting you another charming smile. “I’m Oikawa, what’s your name?”
‘You have got to be kidding me.’
‘No, he’s completely serious right now.’
You rolled your eyes at him again before walking away. “I know who you are.”
It was then that you noticed Iwaizumi standing in the secluded hallway as well. You wondered how long he had been standing there, how much of your conversation he had overheard. He was scowling at Oikawa though, and then he turned to face you as you were about to pass him, continuing on your way.
“I’m sorry about him (Y/N), the bathroom is just two lefts away.”
“Ah, thank you!”
With that you walked away, grateful for the directions Iwaizumi had given you. You didn’t know him well but he was always nice to you from the limited interactions you’ve had.
‘I can’t wait to get home, this was SO not worth it, I renounce my acceptance of Mei’s appeasement cafe offer! Not even a sweet treat is worth the hassle of that conceited prick.’
~Oikawa’s POV~
The girl who was apparently definitely not a fan of his was now out of sight and presumably earshot because Iwaizumi had taken the opportunity to spike the volleyball he had abandoned directly into his stomach, and start scolding him.
“Damnit shittykawa! What is wrong with you, you're so damn rude!”
“Owwww! Iwa-Chan what gives, I was being nice, trying to give her an autograph!”
“What gives is you acted like a conceited asshole! You should have known she wasn’t one of your fans!”
“How would I know that!? She walked up to me after a game, why would she go this way to get to the bathroom?”
“She was clearly trying to play it off out of embarrassment!”
“She probably just isn’t familiar with this building! And you should have known she wasn’t your fangirl regardless!”
“How do you know her name anyways Iwa?”
“The same way you should have known she wasn’t a fan of yours!”
“Would you like to tell me what that is? Or would you like to continue yelling at me about it forever!”
“Oikawa you idiot! She sits right next to us in our math class!”

i bring you: the venn diagram of characters who used to have crushes on iwasuga. put together with the help of my mutuals (thank you ash, paige, and sou)
these crushes range from "thought he seemed cute and likeable whenever they saw them" to "kind of intense crush that lasted months, at the very least"
feel free to add on in the tags or replies <3
iwaizumi:
kyoutani
atsumu
semi [during high school]
ushijima [after they meet in california]
every non-volleyball sports captain at seijoh (boys)
both:
yaku
daichi
kageyama
kogane
watari
suga:
moniwa
lev
akaashi
shibayama
every guy on karasuno [except narita]
#my headcanons#pov: you're one of the five in the middle and just found out iwasuga are dating#i would offer to maybe go in depth on the intensity of each one's crushes but a few of them are simply based off of vibes or#'thought it would be funny'#also the distinction for semi and ushijima is important. their crushes on iwaizumi were at very different moments in time.#im not tagging this with iwasuga bc i feel like this would be lame to see in the iwasuga tag when looking for content#i REALLY did think about putting oikawa on here but idk i like iwaoi's relationship always having been 100% platonic in most iwasuga#universes#if i was going to throw in an unrequited crush it would actually be on iwa's end

When Iwaizumi-senpai is having a shitty day, he’s genuinely terrifying. And today is one of those days. During the morning practice, there’s tension in his broad shoulders and a clouded expression on his face. He doesn’t say much, sticking to monosyllabic responses. Kindaichi suspects something is wrong but doesn’t confirm it until he notices Oikawa-san being unusually calm around him. There are no annoying comments, he’s not flitting around Iwaizumi-senpai like a hummingbird, no teasing, no tossing balls at his back and hiding behind Mattsun, no jumping on him and hanging off him like a koala. Oikawa-san is just there, calm and collected, keeping the practice running smoothly without drawing any attention to Iwaizumi-senpai, giving him space.
This actually takes Kindaichi by surprise. But he says nothing, not that he had much time to anyway, since the bell rings just as he’s finishing changing, and he has to dash out like a bat out of hell, shoes in hand, his uniform shirt untucked, and his pants unbuttoned, racing to make it to his math class on time with the strict sensei.
It isn’t until the practice after classes that he thinks about it again, noticing how much worse Iwaizumi's mood has become.
If earlier his expression was clouded, now it’s completely dark. He doesn’t speak to anyone, and the only sounds that leave his lips are hoarse apologies. And it gets worse during the practice set they’re playing. Iwaizumi is an exceptional player, but today, all his hits and serves are, at best, terrible. His receives are mediocre, barely managing to save the balls deflected by the blockers, and his blocks are far below his usual level.
And Iwaizumi knows it, which only seems to frustrate him more, turning him into a ticking time bomb ready to explode.
Kindaichi tries to cheer him up with encouraging words, but they barely reach Hajime. He seems to be in his own world. He doesn’t even hear Irihata-san’s instructions.
It’s only when one of his intense spikes goes completely off course with a dull thud, plunging the gym into a heavy silence, that he finally snaps.
“To hell with this fucking shit!” he yells angrily, hands clutching his hair, pulling it in frustration and startling everyone. “Dammit! Fucking dammit! Fuck it!” He squats down, head bowed, huffing in an attempt to control his rage.
Yutaro blinks in near fear, clutching Kunimi’s shoulder tightly, who is too shocked to even protest. No one says a word yet.
Until, of course, Oikawa-san steps in.
“Okay!” He claps to get everyone’s attention, wearing an easy smile. “I think it’s a good time for a switch! Group C, you ready?” He turns to the bench where the first and some second years are sitting; they nod, still a little shaken. “Great, then come on in for us,” he encourages them, getting the coach’s approval.
“Finally, a break!”
“I thought my hands would fall off from all the blocking.”
Kindaichi barely registers Matsukawa-san’s and Hanamaki-san’s words, still watching Iwaizumi. His breathing is still a little heavy, and he soon stands up as the two third-years gently pat his back. He keeps his head down as he heads to the opposite bench from everyone else, shoulders tense and fists clenched.
Kindaichi twists his lips into a frown, letting Kunimi drag him to the bench. They drink water and towel off while the practice set resumes. The young boy tries to focus on his teammates, but his eyes keep drifting back to where Iwaizumi-san is sitting, leaning against the wall, one leg bouncing frantically, arms crossed, and a towel covering his head and face.
He’s alone, but not for long. Yutaro’s eyes widen in slight surprise when he sees Oikawa-san approach and sit down so close to Iwaizumi-san that their legs and arms are touching. For the moment, he doesn’t say anything, taking a long sip from his bottle before closing it and placing it on the floor.
And then, he casually places his leg over Iwaizumi’s, completely stopping his frantic movements. That’s when Iwaizumi rests his head on Oikawa’s shoulder, and the storm seems to calm. Kindaichi can’t help but blush in embarrassment, quickly averting his gaze, feeling like he’s intruding on an incredibly intimate moment.
But his curiosity gets the better of him, and he sneaks another glance at them. Oikawa is playing with Iwaizumi’s hand on his thigh, stretching his fingers, gently caressing them, intertwining them with his own. He’s moving his lips, speaking to him, and from the way they’re softly curled up, he’s either telling something funny or teasing him. Iwaizumi looks more relaxed by the second, and moments later, he pulls the towel off his head with his free hand, tossing it to the floor.
He still doesn’t say anything, just listening, staring at their intertwined hands. But his expression softens; he’s no longer frowning, and there’s a small tug at his lips before he finally speaks. Kindaichi can’t make out what they’re saying, but he feels a little better seeing that Iwaizumi-san is okay, so he turns his attention back to the game, enjoying it.
Though, a little later, amidst the shouts and the squeaking of sneakers, he hears Iwaizumi-san’s laughter. Yutaro blinks in surprise when he looks at them again because it’s one of the very few times he hears that laugh from him—so clean, loud, and genuine (though the one to coax it out of him is always Oikawa). He finds them in practically the same position, with his captain looking at him amusedly and his vice-captain still laughing, head now lifted to look at Oikawa with squinted eyes.
Oikawa’s leg is still over Iwaizumi’s. Their hands are still intertwined. Their arms still touch.
Kindaichi once again feels like he’s intruding on an incredibly intimate moment and looks away.
Then, he thinks.
Oh, so this is what real love looks like.

akaashi
even if my heart stops beating you're the only thing i need with me even if the earth starts shaking you're the only thing worth taking even if the sky's on fire got you here, it's alright
looks like little gifts and notes left for each other everywhere
lunches made for the other left in lockers and on desks with little love notes <3
tell me he wouldn’t end every note to you with a little " ♡ ᵕ̈ " i dare you
you both handwrite the notes because texts are for losers
unless ofc one of you is out of town and you’re separated
then there are good morning and goodnight and i miss you texts
ending with ୧⍤⃝💐 and ᴖ̈ emojis
you both are very busy people so you just try to make sure the other is taken care of and knows they’re loved until you guys see each other again <3
dates are always lovely with him but the best part of them is when you guys get to go home
when it’s late at night and one of you is between the legs of the other, laying against their chest as you both do your individual things or something together
since life is so hectic it’s nice to just have these quiet moments in each other's presence <3 all he needs is to be around you and he doesn’t need anything else
there's definitely so many intimate and domestic moments with him
getting home from games used to be one of the worst parts of playing volleyball but you’ve made him look forward to it
he loves to call or text you on the way home <3
if you’re able to stay at his house and be there when he gets home even better !!
you’re always taking care of him, making him something to eat or cleaning him up <3
how you guys started getting interested in each other?
I think at first sight you were curious about each other but one specific interaction sealed the deal <3
akaashi for sure knows so many random facts and how things work and most of the time when bokuto says something, it’s incorrect and akaashi will correct him <3
one afternoon when you three were together, bokuto was rambling about something he thought was impossible and threw a look towards akaashi, “and i don’t want to hear a ‘well, actually’ from you, there’s no way i'm wrong. if we're building things on earth that means more stuff on it and so it's getting heavier.”
akaashi only smiled, looking at his fingers as he played with them, “yes, but everything we're making those buildings out of already existed on the earth prior to–”
bokuto groaned, hands in his hair as he bent over, “no way! you know too much akaashi, I don’t even know if that’s a good thing or not”
you let out a small laugh at the exchange. you wanted to add something but your chest tightened with anxiety, fearing that it would reveal how you truly felt. however, it slipped from your mouth before you could stop it, “i actually like it, i think it’s really cool that you know so much, akaashi-san. i admire it.”
bokuto, still bent with his arms on his legs immediately turned his head towards you with sharp eyes and brows raised, a teasing smile on his face
akaashi, on the other hand, had turned slightly red, his lips stuck between wanting to smile and trying to play off the compliment as if it hadn’t made his heart stop for a second
you’re cheeks had also warmed, realizing that if bokuto immediately got it through his thick skull (with love ♡) there was no way akaashi hadn’t
since he’s quiet by nature, the sweetest thing for him is someone who will really listen to what he has to say and the fact that you found it interesting just topped it all off <3
bokuto
sweet talk everything you say it sounds like sweet talk to my ears
looks like seeing each other in the halls and he brightens up, the world literally getting brighter as he sees you and he can’t stop the wide smile that spreads across his face <3
i think what he really needs is someone that matches his energy. you might be a little calmer than him due to the fact that you’re not jumping up and down but you’re just as happy, a smile wide on your face, eyes wide and you’re pushing through the crowd to get to him as well
if you are able to, you always come to his matches and it makes a difference in his playing <3
ofc before dating he was just as amazing as a player but now that he gets to see you while doing what he loves, there’s so much energy and happiness that wells up in him he ends up jumping higher and being more vocal
without a doubt he’s always looking up to you in the stands before every rally
it makes your heart stir, too, whenever he makes eye contact with you and you can’t help but smile and cheer with all the love in the world whenever you both meet eyes
whenever he’s home from a match, you bet that he’s heading to you as soon as possible if you allow him to
loves to collapse on you, strong arms wrapped around your waist and he rests his head on your stomach, body between your legs
will fall asleep so fast if you run your hands through his hair, loves it if you just comb through it from the front, pushing it back as they slide to the back of his head and then move back to the front to run through the strands again
even better if you talk to him as you love on him while he’s resting on you
hugs you tighter when you praise him, letting out a small sigh as he relaxes
“you did so well today, kou. ‘m so proud of you,” you hum.
“you mean it, baby?” he mumbles, face still buried into your shirt.
“i mean it. i would never miss any of your games if i can help it for the world, love.”
the last thing he can get out is an “i love you so much" before his eyes fall shut
oikawa
girl, if you want it there’s no good reason not to love if you want it
looks like keeping him company even when it’s three in the morning <3
he’ll hold you close or have you on his lap, arms wrapped around you when he’s up at night watching other team’s volleyball matches
loves to talk you through the plays as well if you have any questions
will take the time to pause the video and point out anything <3
“see what they did here? they purposely left an opening in the block for the libero to cover. it corners the spiker either way,” he spoke softly, a small smile on his face as he explains the tactic to you.
“i think i understand. you guys have done that before too, right?” you nod, eyes focused on the screen as you lean to the side, resting your head on his shoulder
he wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you close to him, “we have, pretty. i didn’t think you paid so much attention.”
“of course i do!” you pouted, tilting your head to look slightly on him.
he met your eyes with a teasing smile, “i’m only joking, princess. i see how hard you focus, you look super cute when you do, after all.”
you buried your face into his shoulder, too red to keep looking at him
you’re definitely a part of his squad (iwa, makki, matsu) even if you’re a grade below them
if you didn't already know them, he also definitely introduced you to the group as “his girl”
from then on out, you had four scary guard dogs should you ever need them <3
he’s glad to have someone so close to him that also gets along with his friends, so he’s happy as can be when you’re all hanging out
ofc also enjoys one on one time with u as seen above
after matches, you’re always loving on him, whether he won or lost
if he won, similar to bokuto, you’re praising him the whole way, pressing kisses to his forehead as he lays on you, completely content as he rests
if he lost, there’s no words exchanged between you two until he’s ready. it’s not that words will lead to anything bad, but you know what will help him. you know that for him, he’ll recover with time. after he’s thought about it, he’ll express all his feelings and emotions to you, so you only need to wait for him to be ready. in the meantime, you’ll love on him and make sure he takes care of himself. you’ll stay with him so that he knows he’s not alone and when he’s ready, you caress his face, softly wiping his eyes whenever they tear up and listen to anything he wants to say <3
iwaizumi
my baby here on earth showed me what my heart was worth so when it comes to be my turn could you shine it down here for her?
looks like giving you gifts everytime he sees you
probably actually started with you giving him gifts all the time first <3
def friends to lovers i can see it
when you started giving him gifts, it stirred something inside of him and his friends kept telling him that you definitely liked him back
he was still unsure tho bc we’re talking a man with a whole fan club and two other men who have nothing better to do but tease other people so how trustworthy is their advice really
but he wanted to be hopeful so he started getting you things too (credit to makki & matsu, best wingmen)
because your relationship with iwa was 100% friends to lovers, said wingmen + whatever oikawa is definitely supported you both and were trying to play cupid
makki and matsu helped iwa find out what you liked without making it obvious and since he was too nervous to ask you on his own
also tried to inconspicuously ask if you were interested in anyone in which you immediately turned red and hid your face
the two boys turned to each other with a smirk because they knew they were definitely right
they probably got you to plan a confession to iwa, swearing on their lives that iwa liked you back
(makki and co. also definitely found a way to listen to it all go down and probably even recorded it)
as soon as you guys start dating he’s all over you <3 probably beats you to buying something most of the time but you still try to buy him things as often as you can
i think he’d adore flowers from you <3 they’re some of the sweetest things you can get them
mad dog respects you as an extent of his respect of iwa
definitely lots of words of affirmation in your relationship too
after the spring high semifinals you were in his lap, letting him hide his face in the crook of your neck as his whole body shook
you rubbed the back of his head with one hand, the other placed on one of his arms which were wrapped around you,
“i just want you to know how proud i am of you, hajime. i could hear you everytime you brought up your team. you did so well. you taught them so much. you’re so observant, you’re so strong. i couldn’t be more proud of you, love.”
he tightened his hold on you, and you felt his tears on your neck. “i know. i know it hurts a lot, baby. i’m here for you,” you whispered, pressing a kiss to his head.
sugawara
she said i dressed in your favorite i bought two bottles of red unless you made reservations oh look, you thought all ahead
looks like mothering his flock of children with him and taking care of him after he has taken care of the rest <3
lots of resting on each other’s shoulders throughout the day bc you both are so tired
whenever you guys are on dates, his favorite parts are always the train ride back home, he loves the gentle rocking of the train that lulls you both to sleep as you lay on each other, there’s just something so safe and intimate about it
ofc he loves doing things with you and you both try to spoil each other rotten, surprising each other with gifts and dates
some of your favorite dates to go on are just walks around outside
you guys take turns finding different locations to travel to just so that you guys can admire the beauty together
can u imagine? two pretty people walking around in pretty nature?? it’s too much <3
he loves walking in the winter at night because most of the time you guys will get to see pretty lights too!!
and if u get cold he gets to give u his jacket so two birds w/ one stone
if he’s feeling generous he’ll invite one of the children to walk with you guys while looking at christmas lights
it’s different every time
one night it was hinata, bundled warm in jackets and bouncing around between you and suga
another night it was kageyama, as calm and collected as ever but he enjoyed looking at the lights with you guys
you definitely bought him hot chocolate bc you couldn’t handle the parental love bubbling in your heart for the boy
(mama y papa?--)
but you both were def alone on christmas night when he took you out to walk in the middle of the city, where pretty lights shined at every angle and in every direction <3
he can’t help but kiss you a lot whenever he sees your pretty lips
and you love to kiss his little beauty mark below his eye <3
whenever he’s playing in games, you’re always cheering the loudest
afterwards you’re always flooding him with compliments too once you’re both home or through text message if he’s on the bus ride back
“u always notice so much during matches!! whenever u get in you always have something to tell everyone it’s so cool :000”
“and when you spiked, love, you did so good. we were all freaking out in the stands bc you had just been shut down before and you still went through with it completely!!!”
he'll smile at your energetic messages before replying with his own,
“thank u thank u <3 i can only do so well because i have my own personal cheerleader”
“I’ll see you soon, ok? we’re almost back to school, i love you so much, angel”
if his teammates hadn't drilled it into his head already how much he meant to them, your messages alone would make it worth it <3
kageyama
i wonder if you look both ways when you cross my mind... can i get a kiss? and can you make it last forever?
looks like dates to the milk vending machine and walking together around school <3
he’s already waiting outside your class during breaks and when lunch starts
you step through the door and jump when you see him
“tobio? how are you already here? class just ended?”
“...do you wanna go to the vending machines with me?”
“did you leave early?”
he averts his eyes immediately, trying to think of an excuse but you just sigh to yourself and start to walk, “what am i going to do with you? let’s go before class starts.”
“i wanted to see you,” he mumbles, eyes lowered to the floor and his cheeks dusted pink as he follows after you
your eyes widen at the response and you almost trip over your feet before you smile and lean closer to him, pressing a kiss to his cheek
“i love you too, tobio.”
he’s another boy you’re constantly fighting with to pay for things
sometimes you’re racing to the machine because you’re so desperate to buy him something but there’s no way you’re winning against him even if he gives you a headstart
you work hard to take care of him, though, and you have your ways of getting back at him even if he ends up paying at the vending machine
he’s so horrible at taking care of himself, especially with the amount of times he stays late to practice with hinata
you started to sneak milk cartons and eventually meals into his bags so that he’ll at least be fed
definitely lots of study dates between you both as well, you’re singlehandedly carrying his grades rn
but it’s worth it when you see him on the court <3
he tends to look at you before every serve, and you can feel your heart buzz whenever he makes eye contact with you
seeing him work so hard in volleyball and have so much fun, you can’t help but fall in love with him all over again, and you’ll do anything you can to help him and make sure he can achieve his dreams <3
kuroo
you wanna go out, i wanna finish living you wanna get up, when i could just lay all day, with you
looks like showing up at your door whenever he feels like it either to take you out or to be at home with you <3
after the first time he insisted that he walk you home and you let him, he started visiting you more often
ofc you let him in everytime, you were glad he was the one making moves because you wanted to be around him more, you just didn’t know what to say
when you both started officially dating, you also obviously put in more effort to show that you appreciate him and love to be with him
but he’s always more than happy to be the one to come to you as long as he knows you enjoy it as much as he does
speaking of which he’d really do anything for you
if he’s not already there, you could ask him to at two in the morning and he’d be there as soon as he could <3
especially if you text him something like “i had a nightmare” or “i can’t sleep” he’s over there in a blink of an eye
“alright, princess. are we staying up or should i tire you out?”
🧍
😳
anyway
he’s making any excuse to be close to you
he’s probably helped you in a few subjects if you were struggling with the material
ofc in exchange for kisses <3
he’s surprised when you come to his games, i feel like he’s probably not used to having a lot of people come to cheer him on and he doesn’t want to bother you about having to come to gymnasiums to watch him
but you come of your own free will and it makes him smile, he’s more than ready to crush his opponents to show off for you <3
after games, you’re throwing yourself into his arms as soon as you get to him and he’ll catch you with just as much adrenaline and excitement running through his veins at the sight of you <3
