Podcast Recs
podcast recomendations cause i've been trying to read the same paragraph of a psych study for an hour and i'm bored:
All of these are available of spotify (idk about elsewhere)
Seaweed Brain: A Percy Jackson Podcast - Seaweed Brain Legit a fav podcast of mine. the thesis is essentailly "Is Percabeth the greatest love story ever told" but its much more than just that
The Newest Olympian - Mike Schubert Similar premise to Potterless except with pjo
Punch up the Jam - HeadGum if i'm honest, I don't listen to the newer episodes but the old ones are great. the premise is basically: they take a ledgendary song, break it down, identify what wrong with it, and make it better. (comedic)
HORSE - Adam Mamawala & Mike Scubert a basketball podcast about everything except for the wins and losses. I havn't played or watched basketball since i was about 7 but that doesn't matter for this podcast - they make it easy for newbies to understand. entertaining even if you have no interest in basketball
Queer Movie Podcast - Multitude Youtuber Rowan Ellis and her friend Jabba talk about queer movies. sometimes they have special guests on - they are really good. I really enjoy this pod.
Recovering Gleek: A Glee Podcast - Ian Allred & Lena Conaster episode-by-episode talking about "all your complicated feelings about Glee".
Womanica - Wonder Media Network short 5-ish minute episodes about "incredible women throughout history". The stories are really well told.
Nothing much happens; bedtime stories to help you sleep - Kathryn Nicolai lovely comforting stories that fill my heart with joy.
Blind Landing - Ari Saperstein docu-podcast about elite sports.
Meddling Adults - Mike Schubert adults competing to solve childrens mysteries for charity. made you you can play along.
I might make a part two cause this is less than half of the podcasts I follow.
I listen to sooooo many podcasts

First one I ever listened to ever was Fantastic Geeks and Where to Find Them, but the first one I listened to and actually continued to listen to extensively was Potterless
The Magnus Archives (just started!!)
mmmmm this one is hard....Potterless got me through a lot so I like to go back to that for a solid comfort listen. The Bright Sessions also has a special place in my heart as my first big fiction podcast, and Wolf 359 and The Strange Case of Starship Iris are also very objectively good imo
I don't really think I listen to any especially under-appreciated pods, but I haven't seen as much content around Girl in Space + The Strange Case of Starship Irish (which contains the bestest best character who I love, Brian Jeeter) as some other pods I've listened to. Same vibe with Me and AU + Look Up, just in a different genre
I'm curious (and in need of new content) what everyone's podcast experiences are like, so, in the tags or replies, what's...
The first podcast you listened to?
The most recent podcast you listened to?
Your favourite and/or comfort podcast?
A pod you think deserves more appreciation?

Tumblr media
Hello! It's me, Marissa Tandon, and I want to tell you about my new thing. Sappy text post incoming.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time on this website, keyboard smashing and meta tagging (and, ok, sometimes horny tagging, let's be honest with ourselves) about my favorite movies and TV shows. During the day, I spent hours trying to work through high school and extra curricular activities with the looming threat of applying to college very much breathing down my neck. And then after (and, okay, sometimes during) I consumed media and talked about it online like it was the elixir of the gods, escapism, and mental health.
I put a lot of that feeling into my latest audio drama, That Vampire Show, and into Kat's journey. But when I made that show, I also found myself so nervous to talk about it. Would people laugh when I said I was making a show about fandom? Would they roll their eyes when I talked about fan fiction and the community that can come out of it? Would they think I was weird for finding comfort in absolutely hyper fixating on media?
But I found something better: when I told people about That Vampire Show, they started to open up. People told me about the piece of media that they hyper fixated on, wrote fan fiction for, blogged about, and found comfort in. They shared about hard times in their life and how media and characters and online communities helped them get through it. And, at the end of those conversations, everyone said the same thing: I never get to talk about the stuff I love like this.
Growing up, I used to say that if I could just make being a fan a career, that's what I would do for the rest of my life. I'm not exactly there yet, but hosting You Are What You Love is one step closer to that. Every Wednesday, I sit down with a new guest and ask them one question: what piece of media changed who you are as a person?
They are some of the most joyous conversations I've had in a long time. There are five episodes out so far:
Lauren Grace Thompson (voice of Kat Wright) talked about Supernatural
Mike Schubert (host of Potterless, The Newest Olympian, and others) talked about seeing Bo Burnham live for the first time
Lauren Passell (writer of Podcast The Newsletter) talked about Calvin & Hobbes and Disney
Gabriel Urbina (writer of many things, including Wolf359) talked about Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Ashley Quach (writer, director, and children's book illustrator) talked about John Finnemore
And some more incredibly exciting guests are coming up soon (including Daniel Kibbelsmith (Marvel), David K Barnes (Wooden Overcoats), Molly Burdick (Pod & Prejudice) and so many others!). I hope you'll give the show a listen, and join me in trying to be more open and loud about the things that we love.
If you're into text posts like this, you can also subscribe to my newsletter, which I send out with every episode of the show.
Listen to You Are What You Love here.

B99 reuinion week #2 - Peraltiago
This is a podcast AU. Trigger warning: Harry Potter references.
Wizard On!
Charles Gets Inside You Episode 207 – Personality Types and Orange Soda Versus Orangina with Jake and Amy
Charles: As I was saying, there’s a lot of different types of intelligence. Like, Jake is great at problem solving.
Jake: Hey, I’m smart in other ways too! I’ve read fifteen books!
Amy: Fifty is not a lot of – wait, fifteen?
J: Yup
A: So that’s like Harry Potter plus eight others?
J: I’ve never read Harry Potter.
A: What! Who ARE you?
J: I just don’t see the point! They’re kids’ books about a wizard!
A: Oh my god, I can’t even talk to you.
J: I prefer movies!
A: Whatever, not listening.
J: Noooo, Amy, pay attention to meeee!
 Potterless Ep.1 – Sorcerer’s Stone Ch.1-8 w/Amy Santiago
J: welcome to Potterless! It’s the tale of a thirty-three-year-old man reading a series of children’s novels for the first time. My name is Jake Peralta, I am that thirty-three-year-old man, and this week I am joined by book-reader-person Amy Santiago!
A: I teach history at Columbia and I run a blog called Exciting Times: A Deep Dive Into Forgotten Moments From Our Past.
J: Right. We know each other through our friend Charles, who you may know from his podcast ‘Charles gets inside you’, which is not as sexual as it sounds.
A: He’s been inside you loads of times.
J: Yeah, it was a while before anyone else agreed to be on the pod. Can you just give us a quick overview of your relationship with Harry Potter before we start?
A: Oh, I’ve been following the series for a long time. I’m a midnight release kind of gal.
J: Ha! I bet you are.
A: Look, I know these are just kids’ books but they’re really important to a lot of people. I’ve had so many experiences because of this community.
J: Hey, I get it. I met my ex-girlfriend at a Die Hard convention.
A: Of course you did.
J: We were both trying to get Bruce Willis to sign our chests.
(I thought Jake and Amy as Schubes and Kelly would be funny and I like the idea of writing a whole fic for this, but I don’t want to lean to heavily on the HP content. Let me know if you’re interested in seeing any more of this!)

Omg tell us about your favourite literature podcasts, I’m interested
I'm so excited to answer this sdfghsdfgh Here's a list of how I found them chronologically, not from my favourite to least favourite. I love all of them tho and I'm constantly looking for new ones, so if a mutual has literature themed podcasts recs (that are on Spotify), I'll be more than happy to check them out 💖
Potterless ("Join Mike Schubert, a grown man reading the Harry Potter seriesfor the first time, as he sits down with HP fanatics to poke fun at plot holes, make painfully incorrect predictions, and bask in the sassiness of the characters").
Goblet of Wine ("The British lifelong Harry Potter fans Hannah and Charlie re-read their favourite childhood book chapter by chapter with added alcohol and cynicism in fortnightly episodes!").
Obsidian Nights Podcast ("ASOIAF Re-Read Podcast. We will go thru every chapter of the A Song of Ice and Fire series unraveling the mysteries and secrets of this massive story").
The Newest Olympian ("Is Percy Jackson the book series we should've been reading all along?Join Mike Schubert as he reads through the books for the first time with the help of longtime PJO fans to cover the plot, take stabs at what happens next, and nerd out over the Greek mythology throughout").
Seaweed Brain: A Percy Jackson Podcast ("Discuss, overanalyze, and generally fangirl about each Percy Jackson book in three parts, with the ultimate goal of de-glorifying Western Civilization and answering the question, is Percabeth the greatest love story ever told?").
Camp Half-Pod: A Percy Jackson Podcast ("Just two demigods who love Percy Jackson. Join Erin and Manasa as we dive into the canon of the Percy Jackson universe, a few chapters at a time").
Pod and Prejudice ("Becca has read all of Jane Austen's work. Molly literally does not know who Mrs. Bennet is. Together, they venture into Austen's world of romance, biting satire, and class struggles").
That's What I'm Tolkien About ("Join Mary Clay Watt on her first journey through Lord of the Rings. Each episode is a chapter discussion of the books with fans, featuring mispronounced names, outlandish theories, and praise (or criticism!) of JRR Tolkien"). I'm gonna be honest and say that I haven't listened to this one yet but I want to as soon as I (finally!) get into reading LOTR and The Hobbit.
+ Mythology podcasts:
Let's Talk About Myths, Baby! Greek & Roman Mythology Retold ("The most entertaining and enraging stories from mythology told casually, contemporarily, and (let's be honest) sarcastically").
Spirits ("A boozy weekly podcast about mythology, legends and folklore. Hear fresh takes on classic myths and learn new stories from around the world, served up over ice by two tipsy history geeks").

y’all can ignore this but i’ve been listening to this podcast where this adult man reads harry potter for the first time (potterless pod!) and he’s kinda critical of the series while enjoying it at the same time (which is a good way to view all media) but he just finished reading the last book after 3 years of doing the podcast and i’m actually kinda emotional like it’s really been a journey of constructive criticism/good laughs/endless hate on quidditch but he’s never gonna be able to make a commentary on a chapter of the series again

from all my years on this planet, i have found that there is very little that gives me as much satisfaction as skipping the advertising in a podcast episode and hitting the exact moment the episode host starts talking again

Podcasts that are no longer on my feed because they either weren’t my cup of tea or released too frequently (I get overwhelmed by a show that releases more than 1hr of content per week and listening starts to feel like a chore)
The PNWS bunch. I just... couldn’t focus on what was going on. Also, cringe-worthy journalistic ethics.
Tunnels. Same reasons as PNWS basically. I was v disappointed that it didn’t turn out to be my taste because I loved the premise a lot. I went in thinking it’d be like The Magical History of Knox County and instead it was like The Black Tapes
What’s the Frequency? I tried really hard on this one and I totally get why people love it! It just wasn’t quite my flavor of weird and it didn’t strike my preferred balance between plot and aesthetic.
Orbiting Human Circus (of the Air). I listened to the first few episodes and I wasn’t really into the old-time radio style of it, I guess? That was when it was first released though and I feel like my tastes may have changed enough, so I’ve been thinking about giving it another go.
The Beef and Dairy Network. I can’t really put my finger on this one. I enjoyed while I was listening, but never exactly looked forward to it? It started to feel like a Thing I Had to Do which isn’t a good way to come into something that’s supposed to be for fun!
Lexicon Valley. Mainly, the topics stopped being as interesting to me. I have a degree in linguistics and it just wasn’t nerdy enough for me anymore. There were also a few things stylistically that I suppose could be summed up by saying it’s a show that kind of needs two people to bounce off of each other, which is how the it started but isn’t how the show is anymore.
Focused as Fuck. It was great, but at the beginning at least there were new episodes every day and it was Too Much.
The Omnibus. They talk about a lot of really interesting stuff and I always moderately enjoyed it. For me, it was a good podcast for when I was doing something relatively mindless that sometimes required my attention since I wouldn’t get lost if I missed 30 seconds or so of the episode. But also. Two hour-long episodes per week was Too Much.
Honestly I love talking about all of these things so if you’ve got any questions please send me a message or an ask! Whether you’re looking for recs or you see a show you love that doesn’t get talked about enough or whatever else, I’m always up for new pod friends.

Podcasts Masterpost!
Okay, so I have a new super big obsession called podcasts. I figured I’d share a huge masterpost of podcasts that I listen to! I’ll try and keep this updated or make a new post every few months or so.
Feel free to message me or send me asks about podcasts any time! I would love to talk podcasts with anyone!
First off, I use this wonderful app called Pocket Casts! It is a paid app ($3.99), but I’ve messed with other free apps like Stitchr and Podcast Addict and personally none of them come close to the amazingness that is Pocket Casts. I have never used iTunes for podcasts, so I can’t say anything about that.
Second off, I’m in a huge podcast hole so this is going to be a really long list. I’ll try and split it all up by genre and use a couple modifiers to show things.
italics = caught up
bold = currently listening to
underline = favorite
(parenthesis) = a secondary genre I feel is important to share
D = Daily; W = Weekly, BW = every other week, M = Monthly, Wh = Whenever?, F = Finished
