This is both the dumbest AND one of my favorite things I've ever made lmao
The Mystery Shack Lookback Podcast interviewed *the* Bill Cipher (and also Alex Hirsch) in their last episode (54), I heard this exchange and IMMEDIATELY opened Photoshop.

Might I recommend for those following along with @gravity-falls-daily that you also listen to the Mystery Shack Lookback podcast! It’s a spoiler-free time capsule that goes episode by episode and discusses both the content of the episodes themselves and what was going on in the fandom at the time. The hosts, Charley and Ella, are lovely, and so are the guests they have on from time to time! I’ve listened to each episode at least twice and I highly endorse it.

so yknow how in that one audio from the mystery shack lookback podcast, bill quotes wicked?
i would like to propose that the theraprism is putting on a performance of wicked as like “creative therapy” or something

gideon is such an interesting character to me. i've seen him interpreted as a parody for tele-evangelism (or heard. mystery shack lookback podcast iirc). this is prbly because im not us-american but that was entirely lost on me, i always saw him as a parody of child stars? having to appear as youthful as possible to have a career while making adult ass decisions at the same time. idk something about his cutesy act (debateable) vs him being comically evil. he probably has to be smart too, since he can understand the journal, and his "psychic powers" are just observation skills. kid's nine but clearly runs the whole household, and probably generated a good chunk of the gleeful's income for a while ("i can buy and sell you old man"), though it doesn't seem like his parents were entirely reliant on that, so the tent of telepathy may have been entirely his idea. to be evil and manipulative ig. his best friends are a bunch of prisoners who are ride or die for him. his rivalry with stan, during which stan is only occasionally aware this is a child. i think gideon and his relationships/social skills are a whole tangent amidst what is already just a bunch of tangets held together with duct tape and no line breaks. anyway, this post was actually inspired by the fact that he considered summoning a demon before he considered dynamite to get the deed

Dunno if someone asked you this, but what inspired you to create Well Abridge Me, Princess in the first place?
God okay, long answer
well my YouTube had started tanking
which was an emergency when I lived in the most expensive part of the US
but kind of a blessing in disguise when I moved to a developing country and didn't need to make nearly as much money
because if the algorithm wouldn't promote anything I do anyway, then I literally have to make whatever I want
but as a people-pleaser who spent a lot of time in the closet, I didn’t fucking know would be the most Me thing ever
and after using voice acting as a tool to help millions with issues processing reading with Lost Legends, and working directly with Strong Bad on the podcast, I didn’t have any career goals left
so I did A LOT of soul-searching
every time I worked on a project, I paid attention to when I was having the most fun
In the Pirates of the Caribbean Real-Time Fandubs, I loved making my aesthetic and queer identity the centerpiece that everything else fell around
on Mystery Shack Lookback, I loved making jokes like Dog With A Pod that were basically only funny to me and Ella, and yet surprisingly not getting complaints like I would have on YouTube
when I made a Doremi Abridged One Shot for my wife's birthday, I was shocked I didn't get as bored editing as I usually do
and it became clear that my ideal project would be an Abridged Series based on a swashbuckling property in which I voice a non-binary character and/or a woman
and remembering how excited I sounded infodumping about Legend of Zelda in the PinesQuest podcast episode, there was an obvious answer

i've been listening to the mystery shack lookback podcast while rewatching gravity falls, which is fun because you get to see what the fandom was speculating about at the time the show was first airing as well as be reminded of how much time people had to speculate between episodes back then. i was there for the second half of season 2 and i remember but still it's easy to forget when you're able to watch them all in a row.
i just watched "the last mabelcorn" and was genuinely surprised to learn that:
this episode was written solely by alex hirsch in 2 days, after plans for a wendy-centric episode were eventually given up on. it's a shame we never got that but it sounded like the writers had trouble coming up with a plot for her that would sustain a whole episode
a lot of people didn't like this episode much and thought it showed that it was written hastily? which i don't remember at all, i think people were mostly going insane over the billford backstory reveals. i also never would have guessed it was written on such short notice, i didn't think it was any lower in quality than the rest of the season. maybe that's just the hosts' opinion. it's just the first i'm hearing about this episode having a more tepid reception
(overall i really like this podcast though, i'm learning a lot about the production history of this show)

(✿◠‿◠)
hi! im basementbotanist/bb (she/they). this page is just a place for me to be silly, so welcome to the silly zone:)
24 ♥ UK based ♥ ♀ ♥ ML ☭
for the past few years, i've been studying philosophy at university but recently had to take a break from my studies due to a mental health breakdown. on my break, i've been trying to really connect with the things that made me happy when i was younger (before the visions started lol), so i've been v active on tumblr again!
also, if you are a fellow puppet enjoyer, check out my side blog @kermluvr420 :)
𝖒𝖞 𝖎𝖓𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖊𝖘𝖙𝖘 (puppets notwithstanding):
philosophy
classical, marxist, feminist, and social epistemology are my faves, but always looking to read more! have recently been reading a lot of Islamic philosophy which has been super fun. have also been very slowly working on my thesis for when i return from medical leave, and am currently super into conspiracy theories and what makes people ignore information in favour of sticking to conspiracies. looking a lot at phantasms, particularly Judith Butler's new book, and also trying to figure out what the fuck was happening when everyone tried to raid Area 51 lmao
history
literally anything. i love feeling connected with people from all different time periods and cultures. i tend to prefer more grounded history (working class history, fashion + food history) compared to like,, military + monarchy focused history lol. i'm british and am sick of learning so much about people who are apparently appointed by a god i don't believe in!
film + tv
- my fave genres are horror, sci-fi, and comedy, but tbh i'm always looking for new recs:3 - smiling friends <3333 - gravity falls - highly recommend the Mystery Shack Lookback podcast! - the Bear (ayo edibiri my beloved) - lots of british comedy/panel shows lol. have been watching a lot of Taskmaster and WILTY lately
anime
my all time fave is Neon Genesis Evangelion, but lately i've been really enjoying Jujitsu Kaisen and Cowboy Bebop:3
fashion!
i love learning about the history of fashion, and am fascinated by it as it's the only art form we are forced to engage with. expect lots of runway/fashion week photos on this blog lmfao. i also really enjoy sewing/customising my clothing, my current project is copying out the Voynich manuscript onto some of my jorts lol.

In light of new developments, I'd like to introduce you to
the REAL-TIME FANDUB ROADMAP VERSION 3
Tumblr media
This infographic (which I've been publishing for Twitter followers since 2022) is for new viewers to find themselves in this great big circle of what I call "fandub whimsy". A guide to the works of the Pirate Theydy or the ClownHouse.
Titles that are closer to each-other imply association. The further a title is from the top, the more indirect the association is.
If you need to find this more easily, this is also available on my blog menu under "ROADMAP" along with older versions of the document!
Share this with folks who you're getting into Real-Time Fandub or any of the projects listed here!

some things Charley made for your consideration!
Real-Time Fandub playlist with over 100 videos
1 hour long comic dub of Gravity Falls Lost Legends
20 minute long Gravity Falls x Steven Universe crossover
Mystery Shack Lookback - a no-spoilers podcast starring such guests as Alex Hirsch (creator), Jason Ritter (VA:Dipper Pines), Mike Rianda (S1 creative director) and Rob Renzetti (supervising producer)
Well Abridge Me Princess @wellabridgemeprincess - a 80s Legend of Zelda cartoon abridged (tho at this point it's so far removed from the original it might as well be its own show lol)
Tumblr media
Being self-employed content creators, my wife Charley (@charmarlowe) and i have been struggling with bills, food and medicine, as a large portion of our hard-earned income gets taken away in order to pay off Charley's credit cards, due to a lifetime of unfortunate circumstances out of our control.
Both of us are mentally-ill and struggle with chronic fatigue, even so we work A LOT to support ourselves, but no matter how hard we work, the debt is not getting any smaller due to interest.
