doodled some bills while listening to the tbob ep of mystery shack lookback
[image description: a page of digital marker drawings of a human design of bill cipher from gravity falls, where he is depicted as a thin, pale-skinned androgynous person with an uncomfortably-wide smile and bobbed yellow hair. on the left is a chest up drawing of him, and next to that is a fullbody monochrome drawing of him sitting down and wearing retro mod fashion. he is surrounded by doodles of eyes, tears, and a coded message. end id]

"The nature of their relationship in the show is clearly this guy who wants to be seen as a great scientist and is willing to risk everything for it - and is at the end of his rope - and then a god comes from the sky and tells him everything he ever wanted to hear about himself. And gives him incredible powers and access to things and everything he's ever wanted. You know, you just have to ask yourself when you're a story with writing these characters - like, how would that make you feel? If G-d came down and told you you were special and hung out with you and was your buddy and was always whispering in your ear - you let them into your mind. That's canon in the series. He (Ford) says 'He was free to come and go into my mind as he pleases'. What degree of intimacy is something like that? And can you imagine letting someone live inside your brain? And if you were a dream demon who had spent thousands of years trying to get one person to be your salvation and time and time again they f*ck it up, and then suddenly somebody has the power to do it, how would that make you feel? You might feel like 'What a sucker! Look - this one, he's finally got it! He's the biggest sucker of all.' But then you're also feeling like 'What in G-d's name would I do without him? Nobody else can do this.' You could sort of imagine if you're Bill, you're like 'Well, in order to get this human to do everything I want, I'm gonna have to lay it on thick. I'm gonna have to play the part of somebody who is their best buddy - everything you want, everything you can imagine. I'm here for you, nobody else understands you.' And you need to, like a cult leader, you need to keep them away from anyone else. You need to separate them from people, you need to keep them dependent on you. You need to sort of intentionally disappear every now and then, so that they sort of grow to become addicted to your attention like a slot machine - it's sort of a periodic engagement." - Alex Hirsch on Episode 54 of The Mystery Shack Lookback.
I'm gonna fucking THROW UP this makes me SO ILL. The textbook abuse, manipulation, and codependency. The confirmation that Bill ghosted Ford on purpose.

This is both the dumbest AND one of my favorite things I've ever made lmao
The Mystery Shack Lookback Podcast interviewed *the* Bill Cipher (and also Alex Hirsch) in their last episode (54), I heard this exchange and IMMEDIATELY opened Photoshop.

your names like that one thing that happened in gravity falls
oh nevermind it’s back in my inbox. i thought tumblr disrespectfully ate it when i replied and it's probably because i'm volunteering at this hospital's radiography department right now and the internet connection sucks and i thought this ask disappeared forever when i answered it
i copped the username weirdmageddon during the premiere of dipper and mabel vs the future in 2015 when ford said it, but i had no way of knowing it would actually be an important term
the finale part 1 was first teased as “Xpcveaoqfoxso” and when the event and finale was actually revealed to be called “weirdmageddon” i was like omg are you for real
i still think “bizarremageddon” was a missed opportunity if they wanted to improve the wordplay. but for some reason i also think it wouldve sounded kind of goofy if dipper looked up and said “bizarremageddon….” something about it being 5 syllables not hitting the same? idk
oh speaking of gravity falls, i was back on mystery shack lookback with my old pal charley. there's a hidden url somewhere in here leading to something that i guested in. *laughs in hidden*

Might I recommend for those following along with @gravity-falls-daily that you also listen to the Mystery Shack Lookback podcast! It’s a spoiler-free time capsule that goes episode by episode and discusses both the content of the episodes themselves and what was going on in the fandom at the time. The hosts, Charley and Ella, are lovely, and so are the guests they have on from time to time! I’ve listened to each episode at least twice and I highly endorse it.

In light of new developments, I'd like to introduce you to
the REAL-TIME FANDUB ROADMAP VERSION 3
This infographic (which I've been publishing for Twitter followers since 2022) is for new viewers to find themselves in this great big circle of what I call "fandub whimsy". A guide to the works of the Pirate Theydy or the ClownHouse.
Titles that are closer to each-other imply association. The further a title is from the top, the more indirect the association is.
If you need to find this more easily, this is also available on my blog menu under "ROADMAP" along with older versions of the document!
Share this with folks who you're getting into Real-Time Fandub or any of the projects listed here!

gideon is such an interesting character to me. i've seen him interpreted as a parody for tele-evangelism (or heard. mystery shack lookback podcast iirc). this is prbly because im not us-american but that was entirely lost on me, i always saw him as a parody of child stars? having to appear as youthful as possible to have a career while making adult ass decisions at the same time. idk something about his cutesy act (debateable) vs him being comically evil. he probably has to be smart too, since he can understand the journal, and his "psychic powers" are just observation skills. kid's nine but clearly runs the whole household, and probably generated a good chunk of the gleeful's income for a while ("i can buy and sell you old man"), though it doesn't seem like his parents were entirely reliant on that, so the tent of telepathy may have been entirely his idea. to be evil and manipulative ig. his best friends are a bunch of prisoners who are ride or die for him. his rivalry with stan, during which stan is only occasionally aware this is a child. i think gideon and his relationships/social skills are a whole tangent amidst what is already just a bunch of tangets held together with duct tape and no line breaks. anyway, this post was actually inspired by the fact that he considered summoning a demon before he considered dynamite to get the deed

so yknow how in that one audio from the mystery shack lookback podcast, bill quotes wicked?
i would like to propose that the theraprism is putting on a performance of wicked as like “creative therapy” or something

I'm no editor, I literally just slapped all of this together messily, but ever since I heard Alex Hirch say that letting someone inside your brain is a form of intimacy in the mystery shack lookback podcast I couldn't get this idea outside my head. anyways, this is blatant hozier propaganda.
(here is the translation I used and the lyric video for de selby 1 here)
