Yes, these are both OCWA! There are a few different subspecies that move through the Western Nebraska area during migration, one being orestra and the other being celata. While I thought I had a good grasp on telling the two apart, apparently the "hooded" morph of the first picture can be present in both subspecies. The difference is typically in the overall coloration of tbe bird, especially the amount of yellow on their dorsal side. A third subspecies, lutescens, can also move through the area, but in my two years at the station I didn't end up catching any. Theyre a lemon-yellow compared to the other two subspecies.

All banding, marking, and sampling is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey's BBL. Permission to share images was granted by Bird Conservancy of the Rockies (BCR).

ok actually being fr rn

i have had a really good time hanging out in the ninjago community here on tumblr (this makes it sound like its a goodbye its NOT its just an appreciation post).

the fandom here is definitely smaller than the previous fandoms ive hung out in on tumblr and that honestly really works to its benefit. i recognise familiar blogs in the tags all the time and have gotten to recognising a lot of people who frequently reblog my posts or send me asks and thats a really nice feeling of community!! ive gotten a couple dms from people and its been super fun to actually talk to people in the fandom (notably raine my first friend in the fandom. as much as im sure we all collectively hate his guts (/j ofc), im pretty sure theyre always reaching out to people because how do you know Everyone, my guy. and thats honestly really cool to see).

ive gotten a couple pieces of fanart which feels?? insane?? people have looked at the things i created and have felt inspired to create in return. what the heck!! and thats smth that i want to put back into the community. though i havent always got the time and energy to, ive been taking notes of designs and aus i see that i want to draw and my requests are literally almost always open (though rn i do have a backlog lololol ill get to it).

i dont really have a conclusion to this ig i just wanted to say its cool being excited about this lego show with you guys 👍 dm people and send asks and puts notes in the tags if you can because i think those fandom interactions go far in making the fandom a fun place to be in, at least for me :P

As to bring back my interest in studies there are some goals of mine and some tips (I am referring myself as 'you' as some external force for myself) 🎀

☆ By the mid of September you must be on track in academics - complete notes and zero backlogs , regular revision ! 📄❕️❕️

☆ 📌 Complete pw modules till December

☆ work on weak chapters🗯 - relation and functions , trigonometry , periodic classification and topic electronic configuration of chapter - 2 of chemistry 💨

☆ listen to podcasts like 'ACADEMIC VALIDATION'🗒and 'YOUR A+ LIFE'📈 while studying mathematics. (As I kinda not get maths yk )

☆ study along with study vloggers - 'STUDY WITH ME' 🩰 because it helps when you find a 'partner' in studying.

☆ Have a mindset that you are not a student but you are a employee working for a greater position in your job or for greater income....🏷 which means position- topper or sum and income - grades ⏳️

☆ while studying physics you should use whiteboard 📇cuz I know it gets boring at times so yea

☆ for chemistry I would say that read books and make pretty pretty notes 🪄 and if you still can't study it then just watch some study vlogs and restart 🎲 (it helps me sometimes)

☆ study computer science chapter of - 'PYTHON' 🖥 whenever you get time as of getting mind off STEM subjects

☆ I know it's not easy getting off bed but just use 1-2-5 minute rule 🎗

-stand up for 1 minute and drink some water

- start off with some stretching next for 2 minutes

- do 4 plank sessions in 5 minutes or any other favourite exercise move of yours

(This is my concept btw) And this will help about 70 percent to actually get you up.🥊

☆ do pilates in case you don't feel like exercising⛳️

☆ do 'lazy' stretching either before sleeping ot after sleeping.🎯

☆ walk minimum 6k steps a day♠️

☆ subscribe/follow to multiple dance pages so you automatically get the urge to dance🪀

☆ watch your idol dancing...it helps🧩

☆ dance atleast twice a week no matter what , even if you have to force it. It will individually get better if you were some day passionate bout it once.👯🏻‍♀️

☆ start writing your incomplete book by visualizing the scenes of the book...may help sometimes🖇

☆ during breaks from studies play basketball even for 5 minutes... put your phone away and walk around with your basketball around you then you will automatically feel the urge.🏀

☆ take part in school activities as much as you can....I get it that there is lot of academic work but it shouldn't stop you from being an all rounder🏆🏅

☆ cut people off...yea exactly CUT THEM OFF !! Lot of people don't really deserve you. You know who those people are.🌬

☆ don't get too comfy with some people. I get it that its your nature but keep that aside rn because it can be pressuring your self respect.🛑

☆ cut off atleast 3 people this year (atleast)💬

☆ don't be too kind to endure every other 'tease' of thiers. No this degrades your self respect and standards✋🏻

☆ if they are constantly mean then cut them off or just give them what they deserve(be the karma).🗣

☆ be as much confident as you can.you know nothing is cringe.... your definition of cringe is limiting you from your potential.🧭

from our flash fic challenge on 21 july 2024: @vykio prompted me kevin + aaron + dog. going through my backlog of flash fics before the next one and umming and ahhing over posting them LMAO -- this one i decided i'd expand on and turn into something more, but i've got a few things on slate rn so i figured i could post this for now before revisiting the verse later lmao

“I’m just really worried,” Kevin confesses. He’s feeling a little jittery, drumming his fingers against his thigh.

The vet—Aaron, Kevin reads on his nametag—looks up at that.

“I hadn’t noticed,” Dr. Aaron says dryly. He’s lifting up Helenus’ paw, examining the movement of his wrist—wrist? Kevin resolves to study up on canine anatomy tonight—carefully.

Kevin’s cheeks colour. Dr. Aaron glances over, even as his fingers are still probing gently at Helenus’ leg.

“You’re fine,” he says. “Is he your first?”

“Yeah,” Kevin says after a moment. “Never really—I didn’t grow up with pets. I’m not sure what’s… normal.”

Dr. Aaron hums. “That’s pretty normal,” he says. He wraps an arm around Helenus’ belly and heaves, tugging him up. Kevin’s a little distracted for a moment by the way the sleeve of his scrubs gets caught between his torso and Helenus’ body, tightening on his bicep. Then Dr. Aaron looks at him again, quirking his lips a little to the left, and Kevin schools his expression back into one of active listening. “You’ll figure it out,” he says. “It’ll come with time. Well, as long as you’re observant.”

“I am,” Kevin says immediately, almost-indignantly. Dr. Aaron is looking at Helenus’ jaw now, not at Kevin, but he thinks the vet is fighting back a smile. It makes something in Kevin’s stomach float, just for a moment.

“All right,” Dr. Aaron says. “Then you shouldn’t have any problems.” He pats Helenus’ head, scratching at it in a way that makes Helenus let out a low, pleased keen.

Kevin shifts in his seat.

“Why Helenus?” Dr. Aaron asks. He’s feeling around Helenus’ mouth, pulling back at the skin to examine his gums.

“Uh,” Kevin says, then clears his throat. “It’s – he’s from the Trojan War.”

Dr. Aaron makes an odd sound, somewhere between surprise and recognition. “Cassandra’s twin,” he says, after a moment. It sounds like he’s placing the name.

Kevin can’t be normal about that. “Yeah,” he says, and then, almost too quickly, “Do you like history?”

“He’s relevant to special interests in a different way for me,” Dr. Aaron says wryly. He looks over at Kevin. “I’m a twin,” he says by way of explanation. “My brother used to reference any twin he learned about in casual conversation just to annoy me. He’s got – he’s got a good memory.” He shrugs. “Some of them stuck in my head. Usually the sad ones.” He tilts his head, releasing Helenus’ gummy mouth with a soft thwick of saliva. “So is that why? You like history?”

Kevin watches as Dr. Aaron scruffs behind Helenus’ ears. Helenus’s tail wags happily.

“Yeah,” he says. “I’m finishing up my thesis for it, actually.”

“Oh?” Dr. Aaron asks, looking at him again. “New dog and major academic work at the same time? Sounds stressful.”

“He wasn’t exactly… planned,” Kevin says. “I wouldn’t trade him for anything, though,” he adds.

Like he knows he’s being discussed, Helenus looks up at him and makes a happy, snuffling noise.

“Mmm,” Dr. Aaron says, watching Kevin carefully. “Yeah,” he says. “I think you’re going to do just fine. He’s doing well already.”

Writing

Quite literally nothing has happened in this department since I finished So It Goes two weeks ago. Taking a bit of a forced writing sabbatical because my work schedule has been insane (and will continue to be insane until August, summer's my busy season) and I've just had a bunch of random social/housekeeping things I've had to take care of on my weekends. Hopefully things'll settle down soon.

I've got a lot of smaller projects on the back burners at the moment that I've been mulling over, but I haven't had the time to do any actual writing. Been jotting down notes when they come to me though. I also need to go back and give SIG a polish too (and take notes lol), there's a lot of formatting and continuity things that need to be fixed.

And I'd like to try out some other writing software/apps. Google Docs is great for working across multiple devices and any general word processor is fine for shorter writing projects, but considering how massive SIG ended up being and the likelihood that Part 2 Electric Boogaloo is probably gonna be a similar length... It'd be nice to have something that's got a wider array of tools, better file organization, and won't crap out on me after hitting a character limit.

(If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them! I've got a couple of candidates so far but candid reviews would be appreciated.)

Still taking VP even though I haven't booted Cyberpunk up in like three weeks. I have a substantial backlog to work through and have the tail-end of the base game missions to post still. I am currently at the beginning of PL again and did take photos of the main missions getting into Dogtown. Got some pretty epic shots if I do say so myself.

Gardening

Trying to see about getting my front yard and my hellstrip converted into a pocket prairie! This is the preliminary design, which makes no sense without the plant list, but hopefully once this gets approved by my HOA I can start working on it. I'm planning on doing my own installation, so this'll definitely be a whole summer project.

Reading

I've been very slowly getting back into reading again! It's been nice. Mostly non-fiction books I can get away with reading at work, but I'm coming around to read folks fics too. It's just finding some free time to sit in my new reading chair rn...

Don’t feel like I’m rushing you or something!!! But are you planning to have regular chapters or “if I write I post” kind of chapters? When I read first part it was complete so I don’t know your habits of writing

So: I write regularly (like, every day if possible), but there is going to be a longer gap between chapters 1 and 2, basically because I posted 1 a little early so it could be out for Christmas. I plan to have 2-4 written before I post 2 and hopefully after that I'll be able to be a little more regular because I'll have a backlog going.

That said at this point I don't actually have a specific schedule and it will be hard for me to keep to one strictly both because of work and also because I'm not willing to release it before I'm happy with it.

Longer term I'm trying to find a way to supplement my income a little (stuff like kofi, patreon, merch) so I can hopefully cut down on my hours and spend more time on the stuff I care about (which is this). If I can do that then I'll hopefully be able to update faster, but for now my day job still cuts into my fic time a lot.

Truly I hate how slow my updates are rn but I want the writing to be up to par.
