on the eve of your own murder, you wake, alone. you came back for revenge.
in 283 CE, the universe doesn't spin the way it should have. a man does not die, but he is, in one fell move, usurped. betrayed, he and his lover are forced to run. and run they do. into the carpathians and north, north, north and back again. when the new world is the thing in everyone's mouth, they make the journey west. and west is where they are, inevitably, caught.
for a long time, they make it and make it well. for a long time, it seems like they've finally shaken the hounds on their scent trail. the lawlessness of the dry west is sweet as molasses. canyonlands and mountain ranges tall enough to scrape the sky and just as good to vanish into. dead or alive posters are an allure. when one can't make the kill, the other can. and between them both they have the funds to live a good life. it's when they settle down, amongst pinyon and juniper, that real life catches up to them.
the universe turns right, this time. lucius inevitably dies. but this time iovita dies with him. bloody and awful and sobbing. and... only one of them comes back.
resurrected, iovita dedicates their life to revenge. tracking down each and every hound that ever dared to scent their trail or speak their name. they're the cruel god of the west, a desert vagabond with nothing to their name except for a mean red mare and an even meaner temper themself. stories follow them like flies to deathly miasma. that sometimes, if you're alone at night, a stranger will show and ask to share your fire. deny them, and you're soon for death at nature's hands. allow them, and they'll tell you stories to shake you down to your bones. and if you tell them valuable information about the people they seek, they'll reward you with something grand. something you desire above all else.
dead man walking. woman in white. a riderless horse and a ridge full of patient vultures. your lack of hospitality on the range will be treated accordingly.

genshin men as random times
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary ; random times and which genshin men + scenario i associate them with
warnings ; petnames (darling, baby in ayato's), slight mentions of a panic attack in xiao's
pairings ; ayato, venti, xiao x gn!reader
notes ; vv domestic and fluffy!! i've been writing these at random times in between classes and i think i finally have enough to post 🥹
Tumblr media
8:42 pm - KAMISATO AYATO
and when the clock strucks 8:30 the door opens like always, you stand up from the dining table where you're trying to figure out how to do an origami you saw online, you stand and jog over to the door to greet your boyfriend.
"Welcome home!"
He smiles and immediately and he hugs you, placing half his weight on you as you then whine about how heavy he is.
"Yah, you're too heavy!"
"Work was tiring, let me rest a bit, darling."
"Rest as long as you want but please, take a shower first so we can go to sleep right away. "
and like clockwork, he'll whine but leave nonetheless, the offer of sleeping sounding amazing, and like always, on 8:42 he'll emerge from the bathroom and lay in between your legs, burying his face into your stomach as you let out a chuckle and play with his hair.
"Yatoo, baby you can't sleep like that."
"Yes i can, who'll stop me?"
"Me!! Now come up so we can sleep."
he looks up and he sees you staring right at him with a small pleading smile, he jokingly rolls his eyes as he climbs up, now nuzzling his face into your neck as you press a kiss on his temple.
"Goodnight, even if you're like a big baby."
9:32 am - VENTI
venti knew nothing about cooking, that was clear to anyone who knew him, so to say that diluc and jean were shocked when they got pulled into a video call at the ass crack of morning was no exageration.
"Why'd you call? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, are you alright?"
"Everything's fine! I just need help."
"Help with?"
"I wanna cook for my s/o, they said the've been missing the food from their homeland soooo."
and with that, the cooking started, though it took her a couple tries, he finally succeeded, he checks the time and its 9:32 am, as he ended the call and started to clean up the mess, you sleepily emerged from your room, you navigated towards him as you wrapped your arms around venti, resting your head on his shoulder.
"Morning ven. You woke up pretty early."
"I cooked for you! Quick give it a taste!"
1:57 am - XIAO
it was 1:46 in the morning and you couldn't sleep, you had a huge event later that day and you couldn't help but be nervous, your chest tightens as you struggle to breathe, tears soak your shirt as you find it difficult to breathe, you couldn't bring herself to call anyone, you hesitate but you call out to him.
"Xiao?"
"Are you okay?"
he appeared in an instant, once he noticed the state you were in he hesitated but he disappeared, you thought he didn't want to deal with you but at 1:57 he appears once again, he finds you near the foot of your bed, just the same as he left you earlier, he sat beside you as he hugged you, nudging you head towards his chest as you stained his shirt with tears.
"I got you some food... and flowers. They tend to calm me down when i'm upset so i hope they comfort you the same way the do to me."

This might be the one of the more unhinged things I post on tumblr but if someone wrote a platonic wet birds fic or just any wet birds content (c!ven and Icurus) I would read it. I would read it and eat that shit up I care about their friendship and I’ll die on this hill that those two platonically are a powerful friendship that could balance each other out but also be an enabler to do more stupid shit that could get them killed. I feel like those to would go back to the office and fall asleep leaning on each other with piles of papers around trying to figure out what to do next but there both stubborn and refuse to give up. Ari would walk in on that and just walk back out like fuck this dude I just got my emotions back but not enough to deal with whatever’s going on here

Rae Morningstar and Loneliness: An Analysis
SO something that occurred to me recently is how much being alone effects. well. everyone in Fable(not like everyone everyone but like,a not insignificant amount of people.) Their society is shown to be one of few(if not the only) thriving communities, and lots of people deal with being alone either before they join the cast, or during. Take Ulysses. when he shows up in Fable, he has to grapple with the fact that he is the last of his race. Same with Ari- being one of the last of the Aether. And for characters like Icarus, Caspian, and many many others, they have to deal with being alone before they find a community of people they can be around and trust. One such case is Rae Morningstar.
At the start of the story, Rae is alone. Almost everyone has some form of connection. Icarus, Centross, and Easton have ominous bane. Momboo, Jamie, and Easton are family. Haley already knows Momboo. The only people without any connection are Athena, Will, and Rae. Will's not really around much, and well, Athena had a retconned family so it doesn't really affect his character. (Though i totally do have thoughts about this post retconned Athena and stuff but this is a Rae post). However, by the end of the series, Rae is deeply embedded in the community. He was alone once. and he tries his hardest never to be again.
Rae's lowest moments are when he's alone. In season 1, when Enderian makes him that offer, he probably wouldve taken it in a heartbeat, if not for the fact that if he did, he would be Alone. (and also that he might be used against his friends) In s2 when he finds out he and Icarus are brothers, he is so desperate to hold on to that relationship. I think its why he's so desperate to keep that connection. He doesnt want to lose his brother again. Also the beginning of S2 IS SO bad for him. All of his friends, his family all gone. he's alone yet surrounded by the people he knows. He mentions how bad it wouldve been if not for Ocie- the one person who can relate to him. Someone that stops him from being completely alone. Then theres the sculk arc, which, do I even have to explain? In s3 , Rae gets mad at Centross. A big reason is because Centross left him alone. And when Icarus starts to isolate, later on, what does Rae say, in concern "I just don't want them to be alone." Rae was alone before. so now he tries to make sure that no one else in the community is. For example, he reaches out to everyone. He's always the one people go to for help, so that when they need it they won't be alone. See where Im going with this?
Another thing. Each and every time Rae met one of his partners? Bot him and the partner have been alone. Take Caspian- I mean Cas was alone in the prison, he was isolated. And Rae had been banned from seeing Jamie and Athena was being kept away. The two people he was closest too at the time had left him- even if it wasn't their own choice. When he met Aax, everyone he knew and loved had forgotten him. And Aax had been sitting alone in a cave. Waiting for Theo to return. Even when they first met, Aax was alone, being the only one to escape from the Telchins, and Rae was trapped in a home where he had no one to turn to. When he met Fenris, ,he was alone, having run from his home to keep people safe. And Fenris was alone after being turned into a wolf who couldnt even talk to other animals. for possibly centuries.
Even in smaller things, he doesn't want to be alone, like when he learns Centross and Fenris forgave Ven. He doesn't know how to deal with that anger, now that he's alone in it. He gets tatoos so that he wont forget these people, so he'll never be alone. And at the end of hist story? He and his family turn into gods. He'll never be alone, not even in death.
Anyway i just had some thoughts. if you noticed any inaccuries/have any points to add/ disagree with any of my points please reblog! i want to see waht other people think. Also i might make a follow up on how loneliness affects other characters, this really got me thinking

Montegue AU || Vivian Montegue || Updated Vaughn
Tumblr media
Vaughn Montegue
WIP
He extends his hand out to Veneer.
“Come on son. Let’s go.” He says.
There they stood, under the street lights of Under Rageous. After pursuing him for so long, Vaughn finally caught up to his son. Veneer is hesitant. He stands in the middle of the street, before him is his father, he looks behind him where a group of tiny Trolls stay staring at him: Branch, John Dory… and Floyd. Floyd holds his broken arm as he looks at the two giant Rageons before him.
“Veneer!” His father calls again in his deep voice, “No more screwing anything up. You’ve done enough of that! You pushed your sister away, you made her go back to that vile woman!….You’re coming home, and you’re coming home now.” His fathers bright blue eyes were fixated on his son… he reminded Vaughn so much of his wife, of their mother. The same innocence and soft expression…
“Veneer. Come. Now.” He demanded once more.
“Ven?” Veneer turned to see that Floyd had called his name. The small troll tried to stand up, but he was too weak….
Veneer turned again to his father… this was the first time in so long he acknowledged him, that he called him son… but he couldn’t… he couldn’t do it… Veneer slowly began to back away.
“….what are you doing?” Vaughn asked in true disbelief. Veneer shook his head, he was holding his purple beanie close to his heart… the only thing he’d ever had from his father, something to remind him of the man he once was long ago… the man his mom would talk to them about…
“I’m sorry….” Was all Veneer said. He turned around and scooped up the small Trolls, holding them in his hands. “…I can’t go with you…”
Vaughn stared at his son in disbelief….Was he really choosing the Trolls over his own father?
…I am reposting sorry!! I wasn’t too impressed how the last post came out. I think I tried to make it too impressive when it really wasn’t (plus I’ve been going through a lot of self-consciousness lately and really been beating myself up about certain things 💔)
Here is Vaughn, father of Velvet and Veneer. Now in some stories and AUs he died along side his wife in a car crash…. But for the Under Rageous AU, he’s going to serve a little bit more of a significant part.
The twins have told Floyd that their parents have died… that’s true, but only for one parent….
Under Rageous is a dangerous place… half it run by crime lords in which Vaughn a one of them and the most conniving of them all. He over sees the Europium Rageon Distract and his business is dealing Trolls and their essence to the Black Market of Under Rageous.
He married a beautiful Rageon named Vivian (the twins mother) and really was in love with her. The twins aunt Cressida was choosen as a suitor for him but his heart wanted Vivian. She was the only to really bring out his softer side especially around his children (whom he was REALLY strict on). Vaughn never physically abused his kids, but he would say things that would mentally and emotionally hurt them. He was especially hard on his son whom the business would go too being the male of the household.
With the business he’s in comes LOTS of enemies that includes gangs and crime lords from the other Rageon districts. He was hated especially by the Strobe Rageon crime boss.
What really ruined and changed Vaughn was the death of his wife. She was killed by a gang of Rageons who were hired to hit him…. She was a few weeks pregnant at the time. He went mad!
Without anyone to simmer him down, he began to get REALLY hard on the twins, causing them to runaway and fend for themselves out in the under-city. Angered, Vaughn went out to search for his children only to find that they had been taken up to Mount Rageous by someone is just as cunning or even more so… The Mistress.
Does he care for his kids? Does he really love them? It’s put the test when they return to the under-city after their failed attempt in fame. Because of whose children they are and their little public fiasco, EVERYONE is on the hunt for them… every bad person in the under-city you can think of.
But what will REALLY anger Vaughn, and perhaps it’s jealousy, when Veneer chooses Floyd (a tiny little Troll) over his own blood related father…

Who lives, who dies, who tells your story by leehab23
Wordcount: 4,717 Chapters: 1/1
Characters: Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Jesper Fahey, Wylan Van Eck, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar
Tags: Sad with a Happy Ending, Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Character Death, Some mourners some funerals, I just really think this whole city would go to pieces without him, Some rule of wolves spoilers related to Nina, Book 2: Rule of Wolves Spoilers, Minor violence in the beginning, Minor obstruction of correspondence at the end, somewhat happy I promise, or at least I think so
Author's summary/notes: He continued on, speaking of Kaz’s good deeds, of the great man that lay in hiding behind the terrible one. Of Kaz’s legendary brains, unbelievable grit, and overwhelming impact on the city he called home. As he spoke, he noticed movement in the back of the crowd. Fighting? Fleeing? Wylan couldn’t tell. The ripples grew wider, men and women tripping over themselves to move away from the center of the street. Suddenly a path cleared, as though the crowd had been cleanly torn in half by the point of a sharp knife. “Inej,” Jesper breathed. OR: All of Ketterdam is left reeling in the wake of Kaz Brekker’s death. Despite his frequent objections to the concept, there are mourners and a funeral. My summary/notes: When reading kanej death fics I have noticed that there is less Kaz death fics compared to Inej death fics. So if you're in the mood for a Kaz death fic (I have been many times, don't ask me why but I find it so interesting reading Inej's reaction to Kaz dying). You will feel Inej's pain and it hurts so much. And this fic has Nina helping Nina through the pain and them bonding over dead partners..

welcome to the "wow, that's some interesting manipulation you got there mr.fable sir; want me to analyze it for you?" + a couple other things about thursdays lore post
this'll be a ride (the 4252 word kind), its roughly kinda organized (the manipulation section goes mostly chronologically-), but i think its gets all our points across pretty well
echo [@echos-of-incoherence], my partner in crime (/lh /pos), helped immensely with this!!! we kept bouncing thoughts of each other and adding to them, so this is the post combining everything we talked about thursday (+ a little friday) post lore.
[TW/CW - Lore spoilers; discussions of manipulation, death, and murder]
so. im. going to go in order of “we talked about this the least” to “we has so many thoughts this was most of the conversation”
[so, shockingly, we start with quixis.]
Where Icarus sees quixis’ power slowly increase and get stronger; fable sees the worst of it first. He sees them at their strongest this far - with the bunker, redstone, trail, and wings - and he hasn't seen anything else of them. They were completely blocked from sight in As It Is, and they weren't in any of the books around; so fable has no point of reference *until* unlocked, that's his first proper time seeing them in *action.* He knows of their strength; that they're *strong,* but he doesn't truly see it until this; until the first time he's out purgatory in years. “Again and again he is shown examples of this power throughout his time in the grove, and he continues to lead Icarus back to his voice of reason every time.” [Quote direct from Echo] So then the cathedral happens - Icarus injures both ven (shoulder) and fable (hand); but by proxy, now fable has access to Quixis’ power. It's literally at his fingertips, and he uses that well and to his advantage. (To note - he definitely uses manipulation with this, and that will be touched on soon.) As soon as they fly back from the cathedral to Icarus’ house, fable rushes them *away* from the bunker, away from a place of *safety;* and instead leads them to the alter. The place he used once, to create, and a place he knows he can *control.* He uses the power at his fingertips to his advantage and he *looks* - no matter if it hurts Icarus, hurts his *kid* (which we will *also* get into) - he looks and he *sees.* he sees so close the power he's been searching for, the power he *needs* - the whole worldport at his fingertips, and he'll use it. “And his truer intentions are revealed, because Icarus won't be needed anymore after this.” [Direct quote from Echo] Once he takes it out, takes the power from them (inevitably killing them in the process), Icarus won't be needed. He will no longer need them as a access point if he *has* it, has that power. Centross interrupts this, he interrupts and he fights and he tries. And now Fable is mortal, and Icarus is even more vital to him. Considering that, he probably won't be able to fully attempt the ritual again, due to the while being mortal thing. So, to quote Echo directly again, “he has to start working them again, even harder this time.” also, the power stream. Fable was, for all intents and proposes, attempting to see how useful Icarus could be to him. See if they had any powers of their own - if they did, what were they - how they could be used for his gain. But their only show of power ended up being quixis. Which wasn't even *them,* it was quixis. “I feel like that kind of sealed the deal for him – hence his whole thing about using Icarus to access and use that power for himself” [Direct quote from Echo]
You also have the potential fallout of this; specifically the multiversal kind for this part of the conversion. The previous messing with multiverse things, was with a pre-existing rift between worlds; it still managed to destroy/collapse a whole world. (Presumably, due to Portal's connection with Mer, where the rift was opened too.) And the people involved in this do know, somewhat, of the multiverse, but none of them quite travel through it. All that was done was the widening of a rift, and a transfer of consciousness. In this case, well. Its significantly different. What fable was attempting to do, I believe, would've pretty much been pulling Icarus’ entire connect to the Worldport *out of them*, which is a powerful thing, and using it as said powerful thing. You also need to add in the fact that Icarus *knows* of the worldport, has been in it, is the most connected to it beside quixis. Where krit (or any of the other sherbs) absolutely was/is/are not. Considering fable getting to the point where he nearly pulled it *out*, and considering it left a mark - big splotch of wacky (*not* wack, just a little wacky) dull rainbow on Icarus’ chest - it will probably have a much larger effect on the worldport as a whole - and quixis - than the rift did. Which, considering how decayed the worldport already is, will *not* be a good thing. Some might actually say a bad thing. A *very* bad thing.
[That concludes the quixis part; now onto the Haley and Centross death parallels. And general thoughts about that.]
Both Centross and Haley died, technically, due to an action taken by Icarus. But the deaths themself - in the way it happened, Icarus’ actions, and the fallout of them - could not be more opposite of eachother. Haley was killed directly by Icarus themself; intentionally and without any remorse for their actions. They didn't want her back right away - they didn't want her back until they were uncorrupted and back to, mostly, themself - in their own words, “I need her dead.” Then, in their attempts to get her back, *bring* her back, they're told that she can't be. Alerion tells them, to their face, that the dead cannot be brought back to life. And yet, in the end, she is. Quixis changes it so that Haley comes through the portal; changes it so she walks through that purgatory portal and is *alive* alive again. Despite everything, she's brought back. Where Centross death; it's caused by fable. Fable is who kills him, in the end. But it's Icarus’ actions that lead them there - following fable to the alter, and agreeing to do what he wanted (no blame, I understand why they did as they did, however it how they were led to centross’ death, so it's included.) But on Icarus’ side, Centross’ death was not intentional - fable wanted to kill him, Icarus clearly had objections - Icarus did not *want* him dead in any way. They want him back now - they *need* him back now. They don't want their best friend dead and gone and not coming back. And Fable. And Fable feels into that need; tells them that centross can be brought back. That he will be brought back; soon. He will be. Despite everything we know contradicting this. He'll do it. (Because he needs Icarus on his side; and promising to bringing back the person he killed? their best friend? one of the best ways to do that.) Additionally; if centross” death is mirroring haleys like it seems to be, then I sincerely doubt he will be brought back as *centross* centross.
[Most of this next paragraph is paraphrasing Echo] Fable's plan, the whole idea and premise behind it, hinges fully on Centross and his death. It's not likely he can be brought back in similar ways to Haley - especially seeing as he is, presumably, with epros somewhere (somewhere on the void) as opposed to in purgatory. Icarus, however, does not know this. Icarus additionally doesn't know that Centross was going to die anyway - Fable can say that he only died because he interfered, but we as chat know this to be incorrect. Centross was going to die soon regardless of what happened. (Rae knows, at the least, that something is happening with centross. That he was hurting when he flew off. He doesn't know the full story, but he knows *something* is up.) But with the whole “centross can be brought back, he wouldn’t've died if he hadn't interfered, etc,” Fable is very clearly using Icarus’ lack of knowledge of this against them; making them believe these things.
[That concludes that section; now begins “why fable absolutely would've just killed Icarus and left them dead had centross not interfered”]
Fable would’ve killed Icarus, and it would’ve been for longer than the moment he said it would be. He said that it would’ve been after he did what he felt needed to have been done; all the stuff with killing gods and replacing primordials. Which, all things considered, absolutely would've taken longer than a moment, longer than ‘skipping a breath.” Had centross no interfered, he would've killed them, left them dead until he was done with all he needed to do, and then brought them back. But considering all we've seen - even then, I doubt he would've actually brought them back. They would hold no use to him anymore, so what would've been the point? To quote myself here, “He was just going to kill them and he wasn't going to bring them back once he was done. They weren't going to be useful to him, no longer a pawn in his game. Just a husk of something he no longer needs, because it's [power] all at his fingertips. he only stopped because centross stopped him.”
He also says all of this stuff about “his heart dying with them,” that if they die, his heart will too. Yet, he also screams in Centross’ face about all he can create. All he can make with his own two hands. All he can sculpt and mold. If he wished so badly, if he really truly did, he could’ve just made another child. He wouldn’t've kept his word to Icarus, because once he took the portal, took that power, there was no use for them anymore. To use a chess analogy, it'd be like changing the pawn to a queen once you reach the other side; you change one use for another, and you don't get the old use back, especially considering the new use is more powerful. (In this case, Icarus for power; you'd take the power, but not bring them back because there isn't anything left for them to do; they fulfilled their purpose.) He would've killed them, he absolutely would've killed them and left them dead because they were no longer of use, but Centross intervened and suddenly his plans - both of doing that, and killing gods + replacing primordials - were tilted very askew. “He had to regroup. he has to now rebuild that trust with Icarus in order to try the ‘portal removal’ again, and he probably can't even do it because of the reaver.” [Quote direct from Echo]
[That concludes that, I have so many thoughts about it, and now begins “that's some interesting manipulation you did mr.fable sir, you want an analysis on it? cause I got one right here for your viewing pleasure.”]
The manipulation doesn't take very long to start. It starts almost immediately after they get back to Icarus’ house, in fact. He says “Quixis could kill me,” says how this is an injury only a god could give to another god - at least, supposedly. Quixis’ godly status is. debated - and he says this straight to Icarus’ face. Now, Icarus has this inherent need, or idea, to help and be useful to everyone around. To not hurt them. They want to be useful, and fix the stuff they end up breaking. (Because thy always end up breaking something, don't they?) This definitely got more noticeable post-corruption, but I have a feeling that this was there even before that. Now, fable, being both their father, and having been in purgatory for so long, *knows this,* and he uses it to his advantage. He tells them he's hurt, knowing all of that - because im sure he knows that by now, but that he has a way to fix it, and that Icarus can help. And they believe him, because why in the world would he lie about that. So when he leads them to the alter, leads them there under the guise that it'll help, they believe him. They believe that this'll help, and they always want to help - to fix whenever they hurt their family. This whole idea continues into the cave; that they're both marked for *death,* but that Icarus has been for so so much longer, and then he brings up quixis. Something they've wanted to fix for years and years and he says he can *take them out.* That he can fix and solve everything that's been happening around them; remove all the other from them - something I'm sure he's well aware they want at this point. He tells them how this will go, that it will hurt - their immediate response, not even seconds later, being that they can handle it - and he keeps that up. Because he knows, well now, that they will listen to him. That they believe what he says, and that they want to help, be good, be useful. That they want *him* to see them as good and useful; and in the end, they believe it; believe *him.*
[Most of this next paragraph is paraphrasing Echo - anything quoted is directly from Echo] Fable has a goal, pretty clearly based around power; overcoming enderian, overcoming and killing gods, replacing primordials. For all intents and purposes, overcoming anything that will get in his way of power. “There is something fable wants, and he needs *some sort of* help to get it – he needs Icarus to trust him.” So, he twists his strategy to play at and to Icarus’ flaw; guilt. Icarus is guilty about so so much; everything that happened during corruption, hurting the people they care about and love, “and repeating (rhyming) history time and time again.” it's pretty clear as day they feel the guilt about this; they shy away when it gets brought up, or they go quiet, or or or. And so, Fable leans - pretty heavily - into that flaw. He gives them the validation they want in varying amounts so they crave more of it; he treats Rae like a son - a proper son - because he knows all Icarus wants is a happy family. Unlike Rae, they don't remember the other things - don't remember the *bad* and the worse, only the good, or mostly good. “The inherent need to be seen and loved and viewed as someone who can be good enough to love (and good overall) is their Achilles heel.” Fable continues this, he adds to this, with his words on multiple occasions. Post cutscene - post Centross death, post fight, post it all going *wrong* - Icarus is straying - Icarus was almost killed by their own father, they *watched* Fable kill their best friend - and Fable, well, he can't have that, now can he? “So he leans harder on that heel. He says they can bring back their best friend (death is a source of guilt for them because Haley.) They could take care of quixis (who has caused them several problems several times, which they continue to feel guilty about as well) and fix it. That's the heart of it all, fixing everything.” Icarus feels constantly like they keep messing up; keep fucking everything up. But with this, if they could fix everything wrong with their world (quixis), and by proxy everything that they've done wrong to the world, then that guilt wouldn’t have to be there anymore. They fixed it, what left is there to be guilty about? “Fable furthers this by asking for their help, again and again. Showing them that they *can* fix something, giving them some small confidence in their ability to help whenever it falters. He feeds this image of a loving, fulfilled life and pulls at the feelings of them and their loved ones to alter the image to how he sees it.” The cave broke that baseline idea, and now he as to work - harder, even more - to build it back up; although, clearly not all of it has crumbled away. We don't really have an idea for how his plans have changed now that hes mortal and not a god. However, we can take a guess. His manipulation is going to start to become a lot more forthcoming; he's seen the power held within Icarus, and he's not going to let that slip away through his fingers – not like he has everything else.
He plays into their guilt about everything - all of it. all all *all* of it. He plays into their need to be good and to be loved and to fix everything. He wants - *needs* - them there and the way to do that is to validate them and their feelings; give them the attention and give them the love. (“I love you, Icarus. I would never sacrifice you. Not for anything.”) He tells them this can all be fixed if they just let him help. And because they want that - need that; their best friend is dead for fucks sake - they believe him. Believe all those sickly sweet lies, because they need it. They need him back, they can't have another person die because of *them.* and so they play right into his hands. The denial of everything that just happened creeps back in, and they believe him because he says he can fix it; make it all better. He leaves out - intentionally so - the parts where he tried, and was fully willing, to kill them. He leaves out the part is which *he* killed centross. “He pushes away their distress and anger and fear about all of it by saying he can make it better. Because of how emotionally fragile they are, it’s easier to believe that to be true. It’s easier to believe that their dad is just that.” [Direct quote from Echo] Denial clings to the smaller ideas, the ones that fable pushes away - nearly killing them, killing *him* - and it forces away anything that contradicts them; all with the help of fable - with his guidance. He leaves out nearly killing them, leaves out killing centross, and instead plays to their needs. They need their friend back, and he'll find a way - or, he'll tell them he knows a way, or that he will - to bring Centross back; they want everything better and he'll make it that way; they want everything fixed, and he'll fix it. He plays into what they need and want and leaves out everything they don't want to acknowledge.
Fable manages to get it into Icarus’ head that they have to be the one to fix this - or that they *will* be the one to fix this. They ask “How do I fix him? How?” “I have to fix everything” and “I can fix everything.” He gets it into their head that *theyll* fix it, or at least help in the process. He plays into their need and eagerness to help, to be *helpful.* That's his entire idea and plan; to use Icarus’ flaws and needs against *them* and for his own gain.
Icarus brings up the curve ball of Alerion telling them that people can't be brought back from the dead, and fable *almost immediately* defects with a line about how quixis brought Haley back, didn't they? Which was not only not answering the question Icarus asked, but also like, quixis’ power is so very different from anything else we know of; things quixis can do - bring people back, switch places, change stuff in the way they do, etc - is not something most other people - or gods - could/can do. Yet, he knows how much power quixis must hold - if Icarus has this much, how much must the god of that realm? - how he could bring everyone back with it. But he *doesn't have that power,* it's still well within Icarus. It's also an entirely foreign concept to him, quixis’ power - alerion's as well, considering - he doesn't really know how their work; yet he acts like he does. He acts like facing them will prove alright and that he'll figure it out in the end.
He goes back to the death thing after Icarus picks up the reaver. He goes on a shpeal about wanting to beat death and how he *will* beat death and how they'll bring Centross back. He keeps insisting that; that they'll bring Centross back. He needs them to know that. Needs to to know everything will be okay and that everything can be *fixed.* he just keeps going and going about that. In there eyes, Icarus’ biggest mistake was killing haley. Her death had a massive massive impact on them, and fable absolutely knows this. “He's nailing the point to the fucking ground because he knows how much death terrifies them because of their dances with it in the past. He is fo *fucking* insistent because that's his whole driving force in getting them to believe – to trust – him.” [Quote direct from Echo] And then, the second Icarus brings up his wound and his wings, Fable gets quiet. And then, he brings up the fact he's dying. He's *dying* and he demands it to be *slow* and that this was the reaver's fault; the reaver took something from him. And now Icarus, who has the reaver - has their last piece of centross held in their hands - gives said reaver to him. They come to, separately but with Fable's herding, the idea that he needs the reaver back to fix this. The reaver could reverse it, or at the very least do *something* to help, so they sink and give it to him. They're playing into his hands, because he absolutely knew they would do that. “He's likely been watching them for a really long time while in purgatory, meaning he knows the ins and outs of who they are as a person, at least to *some* degree. He’s watched how they think and how their brain translates information and how emotions play into so many of their actions. He's memorized the facets of their reactions and responses to create a script designed to contort and abuse those very elements of Icarus for his own gain.” [Direct quote from Echo]
Fable also convinces them that no one - us as the chat included - understand how grave this entire situation is, and how they're doing exactly what they need to do to make this right. He uses them being emotional and devastated by centross to get them to believe and trust him. He tells them that no one will understand that Centross *will* come back; that hes not really gone. That the people Icarus would tell would only be focused on the fact he's dead in the first place - fable glosses over the fact that he even did *die;* because he'll come back, so it's all fine. “We don't have to acknowledge the fact that fable still fucking killed him because in the end, he won't be dead.” [Direct quote from Echo] - and he gets Icarus on the side and idea of *not telling anyone* regardless of if centross is coming back or not.
Even after the two of them leave the cave, he continues to pile it on. Fable tells them it will be joyous soon, that everything will be fixed soon and that everything will be *okay* soon; and he's still just playing into their wants and needs. He knows that what they want - knows that *exactly what they want - and so he just keeps at it. He keeps insisting and insisting that it will be, and so they believe him. They just want everything to be *okay* and why wouldn't their dad want to make it that for them?
Once they get back to the house, it's all mostly alright, but there's one final thing that sticks out to me. When Icarus mentions that they could get fable new clothes he snaps at them. He gets loud and he sound almost *angry.* and then he immensely backtracks and repeats himself much less sharp; much softer. Snapping like that would push them away, and he realizes that, so he backtracks on it. “He can't use fear like they did with Athena – it has to be built on trust and care in order to get anywhere. Fear would push Icarus, so he changes his response straight away.” [Direct quote from Echo] Icarus doesn't notice this - or if they do they don't pay attention to or care about it - since their far more focused on helping their dad heal and feel better. (And a quick honorary mention to him falling asleep in Icarus’ bed and them not saying anything about it. Centross used to do that, you know, after rough conversions, sit with them there until they fell asleep.)
He doesn’t need Icarus afraid, he needs them compliant. He needs them trusting of his every word, and he fucked it up; so he has to get that back. And he *will,* because he knows *exactly* how. He knows exactly what strings to tug and what emotions to pull to get them exactly where he wants them; exactly where he *needs* them. And he'll pull and tug those until he does.

Okay I saw people posting about fable smp on tumblr so here I am because holy fucking fuck! I have thoughts about ven's charecter now that there is more evidence of my warmongering fable theory.
Cause like- he doesn't buy the propaganda because he wrote the propaganda. He knows- like of course he would be more trusting of perix he wrote the propaganda about the end being evil. Of course he would isolate himself he doesn't know who's alive and what he can and can't say.
And he's terrified of fable we've seen it! He knows that fable just wants to control everything and now he knows he is a GOD.
His whole deal just seems so obvious now! I can't believe I didn't see it before.
More things about warmongering fable:
Sad lore hints about Isla not being happy with the marriage
Everyone who knew him saying he used to be serious and mean and saying how he acts different now
Every book about the war has been rewritten
He showed Rae the memory of Isla being taken away AFTER he got mind powers.
People have previously called it the guilded empire instead of the guilded kingdom.
Enderian and Soul worked together to trap him- Soul always (so far) did things because they were right.
Len switched sides
LEN DIDN'T CURSE SOUL- which means that enderian didn't have to be the one to curse Isla.
Delta switched sides!
Everyone who switched sides came from the overworld court didn't they?
I'm freaking out- I knew it!!

Ironic of those of you who try to moralize over people like me for liking 🐠 or whatever blorbo, once again oblivious to WHY they are appealing to somebody like me (sounds about ⚪️) when you act x10 worse than the character towards real poc in fandom then deny it to our faces when we confront you on it— but you will never be ready for that conversion will you…

Fig Faeth Junior Year Playlist: Side A
It's no surprise that Fig Faeth's playlist is the one that I actually listen to the most. It's just a very good vibe and I love her. Took extra time to Song descriptions and thoughts down below. Spoilers for Episodes 1-10.
Genres included: Pop-punk, Punk, Alternative
1. hair out, Stand Atlantic
Am I fuckin' up my life? I'm just tryna make improvements Slowly givin' up the fight But I gotta cover up the bruise That I get from all the Expectations give me vertigo Wasting away to the pressure The pressure, The pressure, oh
This song is such an earworm, scratching a specific itch in my brain. Love the fact that both Kristen and Fig (the failing girlies) start with a Stand Atlantic song, and it works with the way that Fig is coming at this season. From the jump, she is one of the most visibly and audibly burnt out, specifically from the pressure of the "sophomore album" that was supposed to come out months ago. This song is definitely about the pressures of a songwriter as well as the pressures of life in general so it fits sooooo perfectly. Especially with the "I can already here people hating the song" outro *chefs kiss*
2. Who The Hell Am I?, NOBRO
God, I'm tired of being like this I can change, but in a minute Always looking for the back door, on the run Always at the party, never quite having fun Play with fire, and you're gonna get burned I'm on fire, and you know it hurts I was always on the outside looking in Maybe it's me 'cause I never wanna fit in
Fig's class struggles, her conversation with Mazey, I can't take it. I feel like we've all been there. I really love how the narrative with her has progressed, like last season was deconstructing her need to mold herself into other people (or into an idealized version of herself) now she's trying to figure out who she is at her core without all the disguises.
3. 7 Years Bad Luck, Glasseater
Something strange seems to be plaguing me Everything I touch falls apart I've lost it all, losing all my luck Suffering 7 years bad luck
I don't particularly love this song, a little too unintentionally underproduced, but it deserves a spot on this playlist. I feel like I would be Fig in the curse situation. It took me a literal year to deal with debilitating stomach problems, and I, too, waited until my friends noticed to actually do something about it. Either way, can't wait to learn more about the weird Galier Pride curse, love the representation for my stomach problem girlies
4. Where the Heart Is, Sweet Pill
Get this My mind's been in a million places but my body hasn't moved an inch And I feel like I'm missing out again Ignoring my plans Wondering how they went Feeling bad about it If I could just take a chance I wouldn't feel so bad To see past myself I wouldn't feel so bad
This is Fig's final decision to try Paladin after doing so well with Warlock. She knows the priorities in her gut don't match with what anyone else says, but she's discovering her loyalty. She's figuring out her actual drive... following her heart <3
5. Impostor Syndrome, Sidney Gish
Unfortunately, I am My own dog, my own fur companion My own old lady on a forum Who types in glittery decorum Unfortunately, I take Myself out walking every day and I had my legs to the feet and I give my head to the leash
Making Fantasy High playlists is like making a ven diagram of which dog-themed songs are Tracker-coded and which are Fig-coded. This one, to me at least, is Fig-coded. (yes, I do have a tracker playlist, and yes, every song in it is dog/wolf specific, BUT THEY'RE GOOD OK). We love our Oath/Pact of the German Shepard.
6. You Owe Me Nothing In Return, Alanis Morissette
I'll give you countless amounts of outright Acceptance if you want it I will give you encouragement to chose The path you want if you need it You can speak of anger and doubts Your fears and freak outs And I'll hold it
So I know that we're gearing up for Fig's Warlock/Paladin agreement post "mooner yulenear," but this is my interpretation of what it's going to look like. She cares about her friends, and she would do anything for them! And though I know this song came out in 2002, Alanis Morissette is a 90's icon and perfect for the grungy riot grrrl vibe I see for her

WiP Whenever
it's not wednesday but I have time for once, and I know it's been a while since I updated anything. So here's a little from the Hawke x Varric fic (post-canon, post Hawke escaping from the fade) for my tumblr buddies.
Hawke meets a new friend that happens to be related to someone she met in the Fade.
...
“What are you doing?” the worst four year old in Thedas asked for the fifth time.
“Having a headache,” Hawke replied, a hand draped over her face.  “I’ve had a very hard day, you know.”
“Uncle Varric was mad.”
Yep, he sure was.  Still mad, actually.  If Naomi didn’t feel like she’d been thrown down the harbor road in a barrel, she’d probably be hovering over him.  But instead she was stuck being Thedas’ worst babysitter.
She shifted, moving from hand over the face to arm over the face.  Still blocked out the light, but more dramatically.  “Only a little at me, mostly at other people.  Where’s your mom?”
Her response was in Dalish.  Elven.  Whatever they called it, Naomi didn’t speak it.
“Okay,” she said, rather than ask for clarification.
It gained her no reprieve.  The small creature continued prattling.  “Uncle Varric said you from F’relden.  Where’s you dog?”
“My friend Fenris stole him.  They stole each other, I guess.”  At the fretful little tug on her arm, Hawke lifted it above her eyes.  Her head swam a little as her vision focused, in a way that made her finally admit Varric was right and she shouldn’t sleep until her brains un-scrambled, or he found a mage.
Disturbingly close to hers, a round-cheeked, but pointy face framed by wavy mahogany hair cut too close loomed, eyes fixed intently on her face.  Weird eyes, actually.  Not a color she’d ever seen before, even in other elves.  They weren’t gray like she’d thought.
“Your eyes are purple.”
“Yours eyes are blue.”
“Kid…”
“Aslin,” the little interloper corrected her.
“Aslin, I have a headache.  Because someone kicked me in the head.  Several times. And that's after a long lifetime of people kicking me in the head, so it hurts a lot.”
“D’you need a medicine?”
Not even bothering to question if it was a good idea or not, Hawke dropped her arm back over her face.  “Yeah.  The bottle on the table is my medicine, can you pour me a glass?”
The weight on her knees disappeared, and Naomi slumped deeper into her chair.  Maker.  Where was Anders when you needed him?  Wasn’t Varric’s stupid paragon a mage?  Or had the magic left her when her ex chopped off her arm?
“Hey, is your mom a mage?”
“No.  Is you a mage?”  There was a disturbingly loud clink, a splash, and then a very faint ‘oops’.
Naomi didn’t open her eyes.  “No.  Is anything broken?”
“No, its yours turn.  You say ‘is Asalin a mage?’ and ven I say yes.”
Naomi honestly wasn’t really listening. “Seems like you have it handled.  Is anything broken?”
“No.”
“Then keep going,” she invited.
There was some excessive glugging, some more splashing and some more ‘oops’es, but eventually Hawke’s dangling hand had something cold and very damp shoved at it.  Gratefully she fumbled her way into grabbing the glass by the bowl, letting the drenched base drip onto the floor.  “Thanks, kiddo.”
“I spilled.”
“Yeah.  On the table or yourself?”
“Yes.”
Naomi was smart enough to know that a small child covered in wine would get her into trouble.  She remained in the darkness behind her eyeballs though, because seeing things made them real and she didn’t feel like dealing with it.  “Shit happens.  You can take anything you want out of the big wardrobe in the bedroom.”
As little bare feet pattered noisily away on the stone floor, Hawke took a sip of her wine, feeling the drops pattering against her thigh.  And chest, as she lifted the dry red to her lips.  “This is why I don’t wear white,” she muttered.
It didn’t take long for the little beast to do whatever destruction she was doing in the other room, and there were no crashes or screams.  No sobbing.  See?  Four year olds didn’t need that much oversight– she was perfectly capable.
“Asalin?  Aslin!”
The voice echoed up the hall, too distant to be unpleasant, but still rousing a wrinkle of Naomi’s forehead.  Which hurt, so she stopped.  Being kicked in the head was unpleasant.  So was the rest of it, of course, but right now the headache was so insistent that she couldn’t think about anything else.
The pain was in her teeth.
Like a duckling, she heard the pitter-patter of little elven feet again.  “I have to go mamae.”
“Good luck.  Remember, you should ask Uncle Varric where his beard went.”
“Okay.  Daref shiral.”
“Dareth shiral,” Naomi replied, because she knew that one.  Didn’t know what it meant, but she knew what it was.  Merrill said it sometimes.
“I’m close a’door.”
“Thanks for letting me know.”
Another little pitter-pat, and then some huffing and puffing and very serious child grunting.  “Why can’t somefing just work?!” the little voice declared with a very adult cadence and exasperation, but hilariously childlike pronunciation.
“It’s a heavy door and you’re a small bean.  It’s fine.  Leave it.”
Unfortunately that required another round of farewells, which meant the kid’s mom got close enough that Hawke could hear when her crimes were uncovered.  First it was fussing over what she was wearing (one of Varric’s shirts, apparently, which meant it was a wonder the kid was covered at all and not just tripping on his neckline) and then it was asking why she smelled like wine in a much higher and more strained pitch.  Oh yeah.  That probably would be noticeable, wouldn’t it be?
But the moment Hawke knew she was in real trouble when a small, serious voice piped up from the hallway.
“Shit happens, mamae."

I've been dealing with KH brainrot lately and, lacking for other things to do, decided to make a masterpost of all potential evidence pointing to Vanitas (who's one of my favorite characters) making a comeback in KH4.
The first indication that Vanitas could reappear in the future comes in Dream Drop Distance, which implies that he found his way into Sora's heart at the end of Birth by Sleep, much like Ven did. Let me explain.
Xehanort's entire plan in DDD is based on Sora having the whole Heart Hotel thing going on. During his encounter with Sora in La Cité des Cloches, Young Xehanort outright proclaims:
"You are the one who has made your heart a prison. [...] Even if you are not the prisoner."
While it may seem that he's just talking about Ven, Xion, and Roxas here, that notion is contradicted at the end of the game when Riku meets with Data-Ansem the Wise, who says this:
"And some of those hearts never left him- whether they fell into darkness or were trapped there- whether they sleep in the darkness of Sora's heart, or were welcomed into its warmth- they can be saved."
Ven, Xion, and Roxas are all shown to be in a recreation of Destiny Islands - the light of Sora's heart. They can't be who Data-Ansem is talking about here. The only person who can be inside the darkness of Sora's heart is Vanitas.
Vanitas's final scene in KH3 adds to this, where he has this exchange with Sora after being defeated.
Sora: Then why won't you stand by our side? Instead of with darkness? Vanitas: Because I am darkness. And I do stand by your side. I'm the shadow that you cast. How much closer could I be?
This exchange takes on a whole new level once you take Rage Form into account, where Sora becomes consumed with anger (remember that the Unversed are basically Vanitas's negative emotions given physical form), uses darkness-based attacks and the same fighting stance as Vanitas, and doesn't cast a shadow.
Neither does KH2's Anti Form, for that matter. Although Nomura said in an interview that Rage Form and Anti Form are based on separate concepts (Anti is Sora "being completely stained in darkness" while Rage is him "going into a rampage state, controlled by feelings of anger"), I still find the connection notable. Mainly because KH2's Drive Forms are symbolic of a bond Sora has (Valor = Goofy, Wisdom = Donald, Limit = Kairi, and Master = Mickey) but have to be activated manually. That is, except for the two that activate randomly - Final (which is a reward for beating Roxas and thus represents him) and Anti, which Sora has from the very beginning.
Also from KH3 is the chess match between Eraqus and Xehanort. Looking at the board, you can see two versions of the piece that represents Vanitas - one that's still on the board and another that has been captured by Eraqus. Take a look.
Tumblr media
Even though it's not strictly canon, there's a passage from BBS's light novel that I want to include. In it, Vanitas is enveloped in the same light that Ven is, the light that brings him to Sora's heart.
"Light arose from the spot where Vanitas had disappeared. It flared, then blanketed Ven's body as well. It was soft and tender. Radiant and whole. Is it over...? Wrapped in this strong, benevolent light, Ven descended into the darkness. I know this place - it's so familiar. This...is your heart."
I know, I know - the light novels aren't canon. However, the BBS novel depicts Vanitas in a far more sympathetic and tragic light than in the original game, which his latest appearance in the games, Dark Road, leans slightly more towards. In it, he disobeys Xehanort's order to stay in the Keyblade Graveyard out of concern for/curiosity regarding Ven's condition post-split and becomes scared after Xehanort threatens him.
The scene also reveals that Xehanort suspected that Vanitas is one of the Willful Darknesses and was never part of Ven, instead being a separate entity that was merely hiding inside him. That being said, this goes against a previous reveal in the game, which establishes that, if someone keeps foreign darkness inside them long enough, it will become a permanent part of them. As Baldr's darkness puts it:
"Are you sure you want to do that? We're one now. If I disappear, he will too."
While Ven's own heart and the Willful Darkness inside him may have been separate, they likely weren't by the time of Vanitas's birth - explaining both Vanitas's ability to feel some of Ven's emotions and how the whole thing almost killed Ven. It wasn't the surgical removal of a parasite, it was a limb being ripped off.
Of course, the connection is still an important one that, given KH's explorations of personhood, individuality, and identity, will likely be explored further. (Especially since Strelitzia is most likely going to be a major character in KH4.) Also, while Vanitas says that he was never a part of Ven in Re Mind, he only does so after Ven shot down them being brothers in favor of them being the "same"... which he doesn't take well.
There's a few more things I want to go over before ending. First, "Heroes and Heroines: Characters' Medley" is a medley combining the leitmotifs for the main protagonists of the series before ending with, of all songs, Vanitas's boss theme.
As part of the celebrations for the franchise's 20th anniversary, a special artwork was released. In it, characters that are connected are grouped together. At the bottom left, we have reformed antagonists. The Seekers of Darkness's traitor trio (Isa, Even, and Demyx) is there, as is Ienzo. However, there's one outlier:
