eating disorder harm reduction
no one ever compiled this so that it what we are doing today. for people with eds and people whose loved ones do. please note: i’m not a doctor. this is a compilation of things from books and ed resource sites.
for people whose loved ones have an eating disorder:
try to make sure they know these things.
try not to force them to eat, they might feel uncomfortable eating in front of people. also, risk of refeeding syndrome.
if their life is in danger and you are seeking help for them, consult the person beforehand to make sure they will be safe and give them a heads-up so that they aren’t startled (especially if they’re neurodivergent! giving them notice will aid control!)
offer them ways of controlling things aside from food - practice consent, include them in conversations, don’t talk about them behind their back, compliment their makeup or hair.
be patient. the person may be irritable from lack of sleep, feelings of depression, worthlessness, etc., or malnutrition.
keep in mind that you can’t tell if someone has an eating disorder by looking at them. people of all weights do - only 17% of anorexics are underweight - and also, men and non binary people can also have eds.
general:
drink lots of water, especially if you’re drinking lots of caffeine.
drink some electrolytes at least once a week - gatorade, electrolyte tablets, coconut water, doesn’t matter, just get it into your system.
if you are getting dizzy or flushed and can feel your heart beating, quick carbs will raise your blood sugar - sweets, bread, fruit, juice, non diet soda, whatever. keep snacks around pls.
your brain uses 400-500 calories daily. eat more than this.
take your supplements!
you still need protein, have an egg or something.
don’t take adderal or insulin unless you are actually diabetic or neurodivergent, because you are raising the price by buying them and denying access to those who need it.
throw a towel over the mirror. it’s not worth it if it’ll cause you anxiety.
try to limit disordered behaviours like body checking, purging, and weigh ins.
practice good dental hygiene.
put your scale somewhere where you have to actively look for it to weigh yourself.
avoid social media and for your sake don’t go on pro ed tiktok or tumblr or twitter or insta.
get a buddy who also struggles with the same thing if possible to support each other.
get regular medical check ups (if you can afford it)
practice things within your control - makeup, hair, clothing, etc.
push your rules - eat 5 minutes before your time, or 50 calories over your limit.
for people with restrictive disorders (e.g. anorexia):
do weight and resistance training at least twice a week to prevent musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoporosis.
don’t drink on an empty stomach.
try to put gaps between fasting periods.
don’t fast for more than 72 hours.
wear lots of layers to keep warm.
eat an extra 100-200 calories on your period if you menstruate.
have a metabolism day.
take care of your hair.
as horrifying as this is to many people, please go to the hospital if you’re experiencing heart problems or if you’re passing out for more than 30 seconds.
for people with purging disorders (e.g. bulimia):
if you would like to purge, wait 15 minutes first.
after purging: drink lots of water - the emptiness you feel is dehydration. don’t brush your teeth but rinse your mouth out, preferably with an alkaline mouthwash or baking soda mixed into water. do something you want to do, like reading a book or watching a show. don’t smoke. don’t have anything acidic. eat a banana or some chocolate or a rice cake to keep your blood sugar levels in check.
if you vomit blood or your vomit looks like coffee grounds, this is a sign of internal bleeding. you could be drowning in your own blood from a hole in your esophagus, essentially. go to the hospital or call 911/999/the emergency number in your area.
stay safe everyone. i hope this helps. also, i do not use these tags - i have them blocked - but i am using them so that people on these tags will find this because they need it most.

There's a shit ton of really bad takes on that post I reblogged from @nothorses about signs of addiction which I generally expect when it comes to this topic. But I really want to draw attention to the knee-jerk defensive reactions from folks trying to draw a sharp distinction between "medical use" and "recreational use" because I think this is both extremely reductive and also harmful.
"Medical use" is, if anything, a legal distinction, not a medical one or a moral one. Medical use means that a doctor wrote the prescription for the drug you are using and you are presumably using it according to the instructions you were given. Medical use doesn't mean you're not addicted to a drug. Lots of folks are addicted to substances that they are legally prescribed. That doesn't mean that it's bad for them to use the drug, or that they need to stop using it, or that doctors shouldn't prescribe it! There's a cost-benefit analysis that goes into the decision to take any medication. Every person has the right to decide for themselves if the benefits to their quality of life outweigh any downsides, including the possible downside of addiction.
"Recreational use" doesn't mean that people aren't using drugs as medication. It just means that the drugs a person is using are not prescribed to them by a doctor or are not being used as indicated. People often have both medical and recreational motivations to use non-prescribed drugs. Like, a lot of folks smoke weed to deal with pain, but also they might enjoy the feeling of being high. Lots of folks with anxiety or depression take drugs for fun, and sometimes part of the fun is that it eases the symptoms of their mental illness. Folks with ADHD may seek out recreational stimulants. Folks with bipolar may use substances that make their mania more fun and less stressful. Folks with addictions may use additional drugs to ease withdrawal symptoms or to extend their high. Folks with terminal illnesses may use substances to allow them to forget about death for a little while. Lots of people whose drug use is "recreational" also have underlying illnesses that factor into their use, whether they are aware and diagnosed or not.
And this is not to insist that all drug use must have a secret, tragic, underlying medical reason that makes their drug use totally out of their control. I've already written my rambling essay on how I find that sort of agency-denying woobification of drug users to also be rather unhelpful. I'm saying that we can't neatly sort people into "pure, innocent drug user who has a medical excuse to take drugs so it's ok" vs. "bad, irresponsible drug user who has no excuse and thus deserves judgment for their bad decisions." And we shouldn't be trying to.

Is it fundamentally unethical for people to eat publicly indoors, since they can't wear a mask while doing so and no amount of ventilation will prevent them from expelling saliva droplets while doing so?
No, particularly not if they are in a space that is designated for that purpose so that people can plan accordingly with respect to their own risk levels.
My orientation is harm reduction, not virtue ethics. My lens assumes that individual people are modulating their behavior according to their overall circumstances and ability, and that the best way to change behavior is to emphasize evidence based structural practices that make safer behavior easier. These are some of the central insights that we learned from activists during our last major plague.
Shaming people tends to result in all or nothing behaviors rather than an overall reduction in harm, just like increasing anxiety and fear generally in an environment does: fearful individuals may avoid danger by freezing and not engaging in a risky behavior as frequently... Or they may simply engage in a risky but rewarding behavior impulsively, when a potential opportunity seems to arise, and reduce the amount of time that they spend thinking about ways to reduce risk.
I want people, as much as possible, to think about risk as something that can be assessed fairly objectively and to think about their decisions as tradeoffs made subjectively based on individual context and values. And I want them to understand that different people have different trade offs to make. Metaphorically, fearful people freeze in place or bolt across roads without pausing; I want to teach people to look both ways before they cross. Is it ever ethical to cross a road? How many lanes of traffic? Are there lights? Can we put lights in?
Shaming people and blaming them for any suffering also dramatically increases the likelihood of those people experiencing trauma from an extended stress. If stress is a wound, trauma is like a scar: it persists as an understanding of the risks of the world that we can't unlearn, even when the immediate stress is past. The trouble is that we are social creatures, and our bodies weigh the value and strength of our social connections—how safe we feel within our networks—as dearly as they weigh the bread in our mouths, using the same scales to do so.
No human survives alone. Who would stand watch as we sleep in case of leopard? We are all reliant on the social connections and contacts we weave with one another. So when we find ourselves feeling that our fellows wouldn't protect us if we are in danger, we learn that our stressor is even riskier than we thought: we can't rely on our social networks to protect us if they think we deserved it. So we etch the fear into our brains with the vigilance of the human who can't rely on the group for protection and support.
Is it ethical to engage in behavior that might harm my neighbor? Which neighbor? Who can say?
You gotta stop the little Calvinist asshole in your head from doing your thinking for you. It's not about preventing transgression, it's about preventing harm—and harm is multifaceted, contextual and often conflicting. The best I can do is let everyone judge their risk for various things as accurately as they can.

For those adults left behind...
The closer we get to For the Future, the more I find myself thinking about the adults left behind in the Boiling Isles. We obviously have no idea what's going on with the right now, or how much damage control poor King has been able to swing with the Collector. But I still find myself wondering how the CATs and the parents of the kids have been coping.
One of the major selling points I've mentioned when recommending this show to older audiences has gone along the lines of: The Owl House has a really strong, multi-generational cast where the middle-aged adults are doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the actual business of political rebellion, as well as trying--and naturally failing--to shield their kids from its effects.
It still floors me that our adult heroes general intent going into S2 finale was to proceed with a damn near suicidal plot--and also to remove their kids from the thick of the fighting as gently as they could. Everything is on fire at this point. The plan they have is Rough. Everyone knows this. The anxiety and grim reality of it all was the major point of contention for Oh Titan Where Art Though with Eda and Luz--but that doesn't really prevent the fact that Eda gently encourages Luz to go to rescue Amity from the latter's parents in Clouds on the Horizon.
Re: Luz didn't really have a planned, direct part in what would have been the adult's sabotage of the draining spell. I definitely got the impression of a lot of relief from Eda here.
And it works. Between this moment and when Luz and King are dropped off, Darius also has an opportunity to shift Hunter. It's unclear at this point how much contact the Darius and Hunter had post Hollow Mind (there are a lot of headcannons out there that suggest they've at least spoken a little over their scrolls, which make sense, given his interest in Hunter's well being?), but he's gone out of his way to contact a known fugitive and send him off with Eda's kids, AWAY from ground zero.
Eda and Darius' motivations here seem like they're rooted in harm reduction. Anything to get the kids away from the worst of it. But, knowing them, and the sort of lives they've been shown to lead, they're probably expecting something messy to happen regardless--although at least this way they know they did their best.
But how is that sitting with them now? Willow and Gus' parents (who probably had way less of an idea of what as happening at any given moment? I'd be amazed if Willow and Gus hadn't had to sneak off with Hunter to go with Luz but of course that's just speculation on my part). The last Eda and Darius knew, they sent their kids off to Blight Manor, and after everything exploded they have NO way to know what happened. Only that they're not able to answer their phones. They have no way to put together the possibility that the kids miraculously made it to the Human Realm. Last they knew, the kids where nowhere near the Head of the Titan.
Do they still have hope, after all this time, that the kids made it? Have any of them given up? Have they had any opportunities in the wake of whatever the Collector is doing to the BI? It's possible King's survival has been made clear to everyone, but there's no real way to know until we get a new promo or trailer or the thing airs.
As I've gotten older, it's naturally shifted how I relate to shows like this. However, Owl House is one of the few I can name with adult characters whose struggles are emotionally very grounded in reality, which makes the fear and horror of surviving a fantasy apocalypse so much heavier...since these are the sort of fears and horrors parents and caregivers experience all the time. Where are my kids? Are they okay? Have I failed them, even when I did my best?

July 21st - Independent Excursion, Tai Chi and Meditation
This morning I woke up still sick. I mostly have a sore throat, so it’s not the worst but it’s still a bit annoying. Still, I am an academic weapon, so an illness could not stop me. I got up at 5 am because when we got here I remembered seeing people doing Tai Chi super early in the morning. I knew this was what I wanted to talk about for my independent excursion blog post, so I woke up extremely early in order to make it to a park and get to witness it. I walked to the first park next to the hotel, but unfortunately, no one was there. I ended up walking about half a mile to a bigger park when I found people doing Tai Chi and meditating. I will expand more on this in the academic reflection portion of the blog, but I sat here for about 2 hours and just enjoyed the nature and the scenery and observed the Tai Chi and meditation taking place. I also ended up talking to my friends in the park because it was about 8 pm for them. I hadn’t talked to them in a while, so it was really nice to catch up. Then, I walked back, but it was some poor planning on my part. I wore sweatpants because I figured it wouldn’t be too hot super early in the morning. I underestimated how long I would be staying in the park, so by the time I was walking back, I was sweating like crazy. I stopped at a 7/11 for some food and Super Supau (which is my new favorite drink and I am going to crave it when I go back to the States). When I finally got back to the hotel, I ate my food and then fell back asleep. I hadn’t gotten the best sleep because I’ve been sick and I want to get as much rest as I can on this free day so I am ready for the activities tomorrow (I am so excited for the zoo). For the rest of the day I plan on getting some food, finishing a bunch of assignments, and resting so I can get better as quickly as possible.
Academic Reflection
Tai Chi is a Chinese form of martial art. It is a low-impact, slow-motion exercise. Not only does it focus on movement, but it also centers breathing as well. Because of this, it is popular among older people because it is an exercise that is extremely good for you and will not lead to injury or take your breath away. It is also extremely good for physical well-being, but since I am majoring in psychology, I will be focusing on the mental benefits that can arise from the practice of Tai Chi. I found an interesting scientific study on how Tai Chi affects mental well-being. According to the study, Tai Chi interventions show reductions in depression and anxiety (Sani, Yusoff, Norhayati, Zainudin, 2023). Not only do they reduce these mental ailments, but they improve general mental and physical well-being. Tai Chi could be utilized as a treatment for depression, along with therapy and health education. Tai Chi is extremely popular in Taiwan, especially early in the morning. It is hard to miss it. The fluid movements and centered activity could catch anyone’s attention. The earliest reference to Tai Chi is from the T’ang Dynasty (618-960 AD). When reflecting on how this is similar to my culture, Americans also partake in exercise to stimulate mental well-being. In fact, most therapists and psychologists strongly recommend it. Most Americans go to the gym, run, or play sports in order to feel mentally and physically healthy. It is definitely also different in a way though too. Unlike the American exercises, Tai Chi is low impact, which means it can be carried on to old age. Also, Tai Chi focuses on centering breathing and focusing on bodily sensations, which is not something incredibly common in most American practices. We do have yoga, which is probably the most similar exercise we share with Tai Chi, but one last major difference is the popularity. It is easy to find someone doing Tai Chi in Taiwan, especially in parks and areas where reconnecting with nature is no problem. It is much more rare to find Americans practicing yoga in a normal park. We have an obesity problem in the United States, in fact, we have more than double the obesity rate compared to Taiwan, and it has a good amount to do with the different cultures. They put an emphasis on working out and meditation, while Americans put it on the back burner. I chose this for my independent excursion because mental and physical health is important to me. As a psychology major, I care about my own mental health and the mental health of others. I firmly believe physical exercise is extremely beneficial for humans, which is constantly backed up by scientific studies. I not only admire Tai Chi, but I also admire Taiwanese culture for putting an emphasis on it. I will attach pictures of the Tai Chi I saw, but the faces of the people partaking in it will not be included to protect their privacy.

hi! fellow insomnia sufferer here! personally I have a number of things that might help.
1: be tired. do not be in bed before bedtime all day, do some sort of cardio in the afternoon I preffer going to the gym but a brisk walk can do the trick, turn off most lights an hour or so before desired bedtime. the cliché of limiting screen usage is true but setting your screens to a warmer tone (nightmode or whatever) also helps
2: chemical intervention. no caffeine past 10 am, melatonin 1-2 hours before desired bedtime. if the condition is critical and ur able to call your doctor, they might prescribe antihistamines or low dose of quentiapine to make you sleepy (personally I get hungover the day after but it does work).
3: bedtime. prep like you would a small child you are tasked with putting to sleep. keep the room temperature chilly if possible, wear socks. no matter how tempting do not go on your phone if you can't sleep after 30 mins. set a podcast you've heard before to play quietly so you have something to tune out your own thoughts.
again these are just what I have gathered over the years but some combination of these generally works for me
Tysm for sharing! ❤️ Tbh I think for me less sleep hygiene is the way to go, the more preparation and ritual I add to sleeping the worse my sleep anxiety gets. I'm gonna try to focus on acceptance and anxiety reduction strategies for now but it really helps to know I am not the only one who is struggling with this!

thank god I was 95% current at work before changing my medicine dose. if I'd been behind at all, even a tiny bit, my work life would be an absolute catastrophe. (kind of like my original spelling of catastrophe, which was saved only by spell check. no, I won't tell you how I originally spelled it.)
as it is, though, I was well within acceptable limits when the pristiq changed, so even now with the med-withdrawal attention limits I'm still ~90% at all time. that's also more than acceptable so long as I maintain it and I don't expect any problems with doing so.
ANYWAY, though, general med-withdrawal from the reduced dose:
I did this with medical approval; don't worry I'm not just improvising
since it's a reduction and not a cold-turkey situation, I haven't gotten physically sick
I haven't gotten any particular anxiety or gotten overly emotional
but I am, as mentioned above, having some attention probs, but none of those seem damaging
I AM getting overstimulated faster than I should be, but the overstimulation itself seems to be of the same sort as previously-normal experiences. it's just happening with fewer triggers. it's also what's causing some of the attention issues (partial shut downs)
In the long run, I think I'll be okay? The only other thing in my life mental-health-wise is that my assessments could be almost any day, up to the 31st (which is when they're actually scheduled for). I say almost any day because if there's a last minute cancellation and I don't have another appointment that interferes then it could be next or possibly even same day as being notified. I'm... almost hoping? ...to get a call to tell me to come in early so I can get it over with. Work will be unhappy if I change my scheduled appointments, but if I'm told I need to come for the testing now, I kind of have to. I have enough for one copay now (omg my psych testing is supposedly covered by nothing but regular ((specialist)) copays ((per visit)) instead of obnoxious co-insurances!) and ought to have enough money for the follow-up/results visit a week afterward at any time this month.
...I feel like that paragraph's too long. whatever. I need to get ready for work anyway, I just needed to get some stream-of-consciousness babble out of my head.

This gives an emphasis on treating the whole person, not just the symptoms, by using a holistic scalp psoriasis treatment approach presented by Bharat Homeopathy. So, patients will be given integral care addressing their living with psoriasis from physical to emotional levels.
Psoriasis Natural Treatment
Many look forward to developing homeopathic treatment options for psoriasis since many alternative solutions have proved to work very well against conventional remedies that are associated with side effects. Personalized treatment is one major area that characterizes homeopathy and at Bharat Homeopathy, diagnosis of each patient's distinct signs, lifestyle, and general health all determine the kind of remedies set forth for preparation in order to enhance healing functions in one's body.
One of the major reasons homeopathic treatment for psoriasis becomes more appealing is because it focuses on using natural ingredients. The formulation and preparation of homeopathic natural remedy for scalp psoriasis are made from plant, mineral, and animal sources, and these preparations also maximize their therapeutic potential in ways that aren't harmful. This, therefore, makes them ideal for long use with no associated dependency or adverse reactions as with many conventionally available drugs.
Such therapy quite often leads to marked improvements in the state of the skin and overall well-being. Patients are often able to declare a reduction in the severity of symptoms, apart from enhancement in emotional well-being. It works at a deeper level by touching the root causes of stress and anxiety that often flare up psoriasis.
Treatment of Scalp Psoriasis
One of the tougher variations of the disease, scalp psoriasis becomes embarrassing since it is visible. It causes itching, loss of hair and scalp and may even bring severe flaking. At Bharat Homeopathy, you could avail of professional treatment for scalp psoriasis that not only drives away the pain but generally helps in keeping the scalp healthy too while intending to offer a permanent solution for psoriasis.
Homeopathic treatments for scalp psoriasis are targeted at bringing balance to the skin and therefore calming inflammation. Homeopathy takes all this into consideration and tailors treatments accordingly to diet, stress levels, and even emotional wellbeing.
Beside the personalised prescription, Bharat Homeopathy suggests lifestyles that help in controlling scalp psoriasis. These include good hair care, dietary changes, and stress management. Combining all these aspects will lead to relief in symptoms but also an improved quality of life.
Advantages of Homeopathy Treatment:
Apart from the mentioned disorders, another more general benefit of homeopathic scalp psoriasis treatment is beyond just providing skincare. Among its various advantages that make people choose homeopathy over several other treatments are as follows:
Tailor-made Treatment: Homeopathy believes that every individual is unique among all others. It acknowledges that no two patients are alike; therefore, it holds a record of every patient's symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle patterns and thus tailors the treatment scheme according to an individual's requirements.
Holistic Approach: It is being seen that homeopathy treats the whole individual rather than dealing with the disease itself. Therefore, it takes into consideration all the emotional and psychological factors. These are the most significant factors that are involved when it comes to the overall well-being of a person.
Minimal Side Effects: Generally safe and well-tolerated natural remedy for scalp psoriasis meant minimal side effects of conventional medications. Thus, homeopathic remedies are suitable for all ages, starting with children and up to the elderly.
Long-Term Solutions: Homeopathy is a treatment that works on the root causes of disease rather than suppressing the manifestations. Most of these lead to long-time change and discontinuation or a reduction in medications.
Accessible: It is now accessible, and it can reach patients easily, even now, by having doorstep delivery of medicines and online consultation. The proper care and natural scalp psoriasis treatment of the patients without the hassle of running around so that it can be easier to fit into busy lifestyles.
There is a supportive community among many homeopathic practitioners who always point to a good environment where the patient will be heard and understood. This is because most of the diseases have a tendency of getting worse for patients, especially those such as psoriasis, who may require emotional support and care, greatly contributing to the overall well-being of the patient.
Conclusion
Bharat Homeopathy is changing the way people approach health care with regard to chronic diseases, such as psoriasis. Delivery of medicine at one's door and care online mean that patients receive specific homeopathic treatments centered on their specific needs. As a natural treatment for psoriasis and holistic care approach, Bharat Homeopathy is not solely addressing the symptoms of psoriasis but wellness as well.
Increased acceptability and benefits of homeopathy are representative of maturity towards more holistic healthcare solutions because they explain their alternatives and thus make more proper decisions towards healthy treatment. Bringing together expert care, a care plan tailored to the individual's needs, and the ease of modernity, Bharat Homeopathy is offering at the table a high standard by presenting patient-centric care in the world of homeopathy. Be it psoriasis or any other reason that has brought you knocking at the gates of homeopathy and its benefits for a holistic approach to health, Bharat Homeopathy leads you back on the path of healing.

Classical Music for Stress-Reduction: Methodological Considerations and Possible Applications. The most traditional of all, the Swedish massage, is the best choice for those who seek a more traditional way to relax. This is gradually becoming the most used massage where long gliding strokes, kneading, and circular movements of the topmost skin layers of muscles are used. It is used for overall relaxation of the body and is great for the muscles as it relieves tension and helps to promote blood flow and relaxation. If this is the first time that you are having a massage treatment or simply want a relaxing and mild massage the Swedish is the massage for you.
4. Deep Tissue Massage
Sports massage is intended for those who have muscular pain and tension in the long term. This technique emphasizes the deep muscle tissue layers and is focused on eliminating patterns of chronic tension using slow strokes and deep finger pressure to the most tense parts of the muscle. It is especially useful in the case of postural deviations or strains as well as it is helpful for athletes and those who are recovering from injury. It is without a doubt intense compared to other types of massage but once the effects come in they do wonders in terms of muscle relaxations and muscle repair.
5. Hot Stone Massage: Stress Away
Hot stone massage is a type of therapeutic massage therapy that uses smooth, heated back basalt stones placed on specific areas of the body. It is worth mentioning that the heat of the stones got into muscles with the help of which the tension is reduced and the blood circulation is improved. This therapy is considered one of the best in terms of relieving stress and anxiety; it reduces muscle stiffness and helps a person sleep better. Due to the additional heat and the application of the most beneficial massage techniques, it is a good option for those who need to relieve painful conditions and reach a state of deep relaxation.

Raleigh Massage at wake forest offers Swedish massage for clients who are looking for relaxation.
Swedish massage, a holistic approach to wellness, offers a multitude of benefits. Whether seeking relief from muscle tension, improved circulation, or a moment of relaxation, this therapy caters to diverse needs. It’s an ideal choice for those new to massage therapy or anyone looking to experience a classic, nurturing touch.
As you consider embarking on this journey, remember that Swedish massage is more than just a treatment; it’s a pathway to a balanced and healthier lifestyle. Embrace this opportunity to unwind and rejuvenate, allowing the skilled hands of a therapist to guide you towards a state of harmony and well-being.
BENEFITS OF SWEDISH MASSAGE
This type of massage is designed to promote relaxation, reduce stress, improve circulation, and ease muscle tension. One of the primary benefits of Swedish massage is its ability to reduce stress levels. A study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience found that Swedish massage significantly reduced cortisol levels in the body, which is a hormone that is released in response to stress. This reduction in cortisol levels can lead to a decrease in anxiety and an overall feeling of relaxation.
Swedish massage is also known to improve circulation by increasing blood flow to the muscles. This increase in blood flow can help to reduce muscle soreness and improve overall muscle function.
A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that Swedish massage increased blood flow and oxygen to the muscles, which improved muscle performance. Another benefit of Swedish massage is its ability to ease muscle tension.
HOW TO APPLY SWEDISH MASSAGE
Swedish massage is a popular form of therapeutic massage that involves the use of long strokes, kneading, and circular movements on the body’s soft tissues. While Swedish massage is generally safe for most people, there are some precautions that individuals should take before getting a massage.
One of the most important precautions that individuals should take before getting a Swedish massage is to check with their doctor if they have any medical conditions that may be affected by massage. For example, if an individual has a heart condition, they may need to avoid certain types of massage, or the therapist may need to use special techniques that are gentler and less stimulating. Similarly, if an individual has a joint condition such as arthritis, the therapist may need to avoid applying too much pressure to the affected joints.
By consulting with their doctor before getting a massage, individuals can ensure that they are getting the safest and most effective treatment possible. Another precaution that individuals should take before getting a Swedish massage is to inform the therapist of any medications that they are taking. Certain medications, such as blood thinners, can increase the risk of bruising or bleeding during a massage. Similarly, some medications may cause drowsiness or affect the individuals ability to tolerate certain massage techniques. By informing the therapist of any medications that they are taking, individuals can ensure that the therapist can adjust the massage accordingly to avoid any adverse effects.
Individuals with certain medical conditions may need to avoid Swedish massage altogether. For example, individuals with certain types of skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, may need to avoid massage altogether or limit the areas of the body that are massaged. Similarly, individuals with certain types of infectious diseases or open wounds may need to avoid massage altogether to avoid spreading the infection or exacerbating the wound. In addition to medical conditions, there are other factors that individuals should consider before getting a Swedish massage. For example, individuals who are pregnant may need to avoid certain types of massage techniques or avoid massage altogether during certain stages of their pregnancy. Similarly, individuals with a history of blood clots may need to avoid massage or use special precautions, as massage can increase blood flow and potentially dislodge a clot.
Finally, individuals should consider the qualifications and experience of the massage therapist before getting a Swedish massage. It is important to choose a therapist who is licensed and trained in Swedish massage techniques and who has experience working with individuals with different medical conditions. By choosing a qualified therapist, individuals can ensure that they are getting a safe and effective massage that is tailored to their individual needs Swedish massage is generally safe for most people, but there are some precautions that individuals should take before getting a massage.
By consulting with their doctor, informing the therapist of any medications they are taking, considering their medical history and other factors, and choosing a qualified therapist, individuals can ensure that they are getting a safe and effective massage that is tailored to their individual needs. By taking these precautions, individuals can enjoy the many benefits of Swedish massage, including reduced stress, improved circulation, and increased relaxation.

The Mouth-Body Connection: Understanding How Oral Health Impacts Overall Well-Being
Did you know that issues in your mouth can have an impact on other parts of your body, or that your oral health can provide indications about your overall well-being?
When it comes to attaining perfect health, it’s possible that you might forget about the vital function of oral hygiene in our general wellness. Besides just keeping a beautiful smile, good oral care is important in preventing many whole-body diseases and enhancing holistic well-being.
The condition of our mouths can have a profound impact on our physical bodies ranging from cardiovascular health to cognitive performance.
In this article, we take an in-depth look at the numerous ties between oral health and general health emphasizing how essential regular dental care is and the need to find the best dental clinic for comprehensive oral care.
Links between Oral Health and and your overall health
The mouth acts as the entry point for bacteria and other pathogens, making it crucial in the prevention of systemic infections. What begins as an oral health issue can quickly escalate into broader health concerns if left unchecked. Here are a few problems linked to oral health:
Cardiovascular Diseases
Research has shown a correlation between gum disease and an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. The inflammation caused by oral bacteria can lead to the narrowing of arteries and blood clots, contributing to cardiovascular complications.
Diabetes
Poor oral health can make it difficult to control blood sugar levels, exacerbating diabetes symptoms. Conversely, individuals with diabetes are more susceptible to gum disease, highlighting the bidirectional relationship between oral health and diabetes management.
Respiratory Infections
Bacteria from the mouth can be aspirated into the lungs, leading to respiratory infections such as pneumonia. Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential for reducing the risk of such infections, especially in vulnerable populations.
Impact on Mental and Emotional Health
Talking about oral health, the state of which may also affect our mental and emotional well-being. A possible loss of teeth due to tooth decay and other gum diseases usually result in pain, discomfort and shyness making one’s life miserable as a source of stress.
Furthermore, studies reveal that poor oral hygiene is linked to conditions such depression and anxiety implying oral problems ought to be addressed as part of overall mental healthcare.
How can you protect your oral health?
The oral health of a person is maintained by ensuring proper oral hygiene. The following steps can help you:
Brush your Teeth Rightly- The practice of brushing your teeth forms the root of good oral care. Consider these tips for brushing effectively:
At least, brush your teeth twice every day; if possible, after eating and before going to bed.
Avoid using hard-bristled toothbrushes that may cause damage on the gums and enamel.
Place the toothbrush at an angle of 45 degrees from the gum line and use gentle circular motions to brush.
Take time and clean each tooth surface for at least two minutes whenever you are brushing your teeth.
Remember to clean your tongue so as to eliminate bacteria which cause bad smell in your mouth.
Use Fluoride Toothpaste - You should buy fluoride toothpaste which will strengthen your dental enamel against decaying. Toothpaste with ADA (American Dental Association) seal shows that it has passed through all safety measures hence reliable.
Flossing daily - Flossing is necessary for eliminating plaque as well as food particles stuck between teeth or along the gum margin.
Usage of mouthwash - Rinsing with mouthwash can manage plaque reduction, bad breath elimination and prevention against periodontal diseases. Opt for an antibacterial mouth rinse that destroys germs and takes away food stuff from the oral cavity. Make use of such applications on a regular basis every day while adhering to what you have been told.
Eat a Balanced Diet - Your diet is important in maintaining good oral health. To keep your teeth and gums healthy follow these suggestions:
Avoid sugary foods and drinks since these lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
Choose healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, dairy products.
Drink enough water throughout the day so that saliva can wash away food particles from your mouth.
Get new toothbrushes regularly- Change your toothbrush after three or four months or if it is frayed or damaged before this time. A worn-out brush cannot get rid of plaque and bacteria properly thereby putting your gums at risk. It may be advantageous to switch to an electric toothbrush which cleans better than a manual one would
Regularly schedule dental checkups and cleanings - Your oral health depends on regular dental checkups. Make sure to schedule at least two dental exams and cleanings every year or as advised by your dentist.
During the appointment, the dentist examines their teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay or gum sickness among other mouth problems. Although you brush your teeth regularly with flossing, it is important to have professional cleaning that removes plaque and tartar build up which can be missed.
Avoid tobacco - Tobacco use in any form including smoking has major repercussions on your oral health. Cigarette smoke can stain teeth, cause halitosis, as well as expose one to high risk of conditions like gum diseases , oral cancer among other complications. Smoking cigarettes or using other tobacco products should be stopped to save your total body system from harm but specifically oral cavity.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the connection between oral health and general well-being is invaluable. Our mouths are the entry points to our bodies; hence keeping them clean is crucial in preventing various systemic diseases; be it heart problems, respiratory infections or mental issues.
Nevertheless, by adopting some basic but powerful mouth hygiene like frequent brushing, flossing and dental checkups can minimize the risk of these ailments. Moreover, being mindful of our diet options while shunning destructive practices like smoking adds up to healthier mouths and overall body wellness.

What to Do For Lent?
My post last week left off on a more melancholic note. Thankfully, I've been blessed with a much better week this week.
It was my brother's birthday on Thursday. He is 11 now. Due to his school and my work, I wasn't able to visit him until this Sunday but I was able to get him a present (money has been tight lately so I wasn't sure I'd be able to). My fiance came along with me and gave him a present too which I really appreciated.
Speaking of my fiance, the two of us took our drivers knowledge test this past Saturday and I'm pleased to say that we both passed! We both have our learner's licence and will hopefully start learning the basics of driving soon enough. I don't want to put this off for too long.
Divine Liturgy was lovely as always. This week we were at St. Volodymyr's. The parish community here is mostly older folks, with some younger families attending from time to time.
For Christmas Eve last year, one of the older couples invited us, along with another of the couples and one of the women to a traditional Ukrainian Catholic Christmas Eve feast. It was honestly so amazing and really made us feel like part of the community. When we were at Divine Liturgy yesterday, the wife of the couple who hosted Christmas Eve gave me a booklet she'd made herself discussing the traditions of the feast, the foods typically served and recipes for them, as well as some Ukrainian Christmas carols. I absolutely love it and can't wait until I can put it into practise next Christmas season!
As for today, I had my second appointment with my new psychologist. This time the therapy dog was there! She's a six year old Labrador (I think) named Blossom and she spent most of our appointment sleeping but I love her immensely. I also got a start on writing up a new budget in the lead up to getting my first pay of the year. I'm a little apprehensive of how my grocery budget will change now that Meatfare has come to pass. I will be giving up meat for the entirety of Lent and I'm not sure how I'll fare with it. I'm trying not to go too hard with my Lenten fasts, since this will be my first Lent, but I'm feeling confident about what I have so far.
Here is what I'm planning to do for Lent:
Give up meat - I have an incredibly high metabolism and struggle if I don't eat well consistently so I won't be fasting from food as a whole.
Give up coffee - people who have given up coffee have expressed noticeable reductions in anxiety levels.
Give up coke - I'd say soft drinks in general but I only really drink coke. I usually only have it when I'm out but I think I'll be swapping it out for fruit juice/tea for Lent.
Give up my laptop - it's a major distraction for me and I live very close to a library with free to use computers. If I desperately need a computer, I can go there.
Give up wasteful social media usage - I'll be using it to keep in touch with friends since usually I'm very bad at answering messages, but no scrolling for me. It absolutely saps my productivity.
Take up daily cleaning - I'm thinking a solid hour each day would be good, with possible Sunday exceptions. My apartment is getting a little out of hand and this would help me get back on tol of everything. If I somehow can't find something to do, I have my bike in the garage that needs to be fixed. The front wheel is loose and a lot of it is rusted.
Mostly, I just want to stay productive with my prayers and spiritual life as a whole, as well as with life in general. I still have a week to finalise what I'll be doing and plan my meals for that time. I'd love to know what everyone else is doing for Lent! I'll also be including pictures of two cats I met this week!
Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
