fascinated and somewhat awed by people who are able to get interested in Current Media, especially by fandommates who are able to move back and forth between our shared game and then some new current, interesting-looking thing, until the running joke of fandom overlap develops and then i look at what i'm doing & it's like. yeah no i haven't played another game in 3 years. no i haven't watched a show. best i can do is ummmm make all those characters women and then put then in some ancient-greek-mythologization-of-the-Amazons + historical-records-of-Scythian-women-inspired made up and foreign lore. if that's chill with you. i can also play this game from 2004. and possibly do that also

sometimes i think about god!gale. god of ambition, who knows that he had to settle (!!!) for this position instead of challenging mystra for hers, because he knew his own limits.

and sometimes i think about raphael warning about how dekarios’s rise to divinity will bring havoc and chaos to the world, one day.

and sometimes i think about how gods become more powerful with more belief and devotion. and how gale’s getting more and more followers each day. and how gale’s orb can consume magic. and how mystra IS magic.

and sometimes i think about how ed greenwood said that mystra is the most powerful deity in the realm, but she has half of her power stored away in her chosen and azuth. otherwise, she would be more powerful than lord ao, the overgod.

lord ao the overgod, who tells the gods what they can and cannot do. how they can and cannot interfere with the lives of mortals. the one preventing mystra from doing anything but sending gale as her weapon when the absolute threatens her world. the one who would then prevent gale from doing much of anything with his own power.

if he were able to defeat and take over mystra’s portfolio and god-dom, would gale be satisfied with finally being one with his first love, magic? would gale still be enough of himself to remember his original intentions? he would be magic incarnate, but would he still be ambition too? would he be satisfied until he was no longer confined to these limits?

forever in anguish over the fact that there is one male character* in fe3h—the game where much of the driving conflict comes from a societal importance of crests—with a natural, major crest and the impact of that is never explored. by their own rules, that man right there should be the most eligible bachelor on the whole goddamn continent. like, even dragon blood concentration aside, he’s one of the highest ranking nobles in the kingdom and the heir to a large and wealthy territory. and it’s just felix fucking ‘i studied the blade’ fraldarius! what!

the most romantic thing ever to be honest with you. i think statues and carvings in klingon culture run a really cool and compelling parallel and make a fantastic aid to the function/beauty of storytelling and poetry and song. there's a few examples of the importance of stone carving in the show/beta-canon, including of course worf's statue of kahless and morath, but there's also a famous historical statue of the lady lukara on qo'nos that was personally carved by kahless with a bat'leth, and the hall of heroes on qo'nos/hall of warriors on ty'gokor are full of statues that serve as a really proud reminder of their history

i think that sculpture work and carving being a big part of klingon culture really fits into the ideas that were introduced in the paq'batlh by marc okrand- according to him, in klingon music, beauty is the result of two forces opposing eachother, and the blurring of the line between the audience and the story is a natural part of klingon opera- the audience is encouraged to join in the narrative and become part of it.

i can see this being a natural result of the sculpting process- the sculptor and his material, the story he's trying to tell through the carving, the shaping and the molding- he shapes the material, and the material shapes the story, and in that way the line is blurred- the sculptor becomes part of the story he's trying to tell because he has to form it, and the opposition between the two of them- the material vs the sculptor represents this honorable challenge and this potential and this battle, because it needs to be shaped into the kind of narrative you want to tell the way you'd like it to be told. and the end result is organic in that same way, it evolves and changes as you work (or in the case of oral storytelling, as it's retold and shared), and just. i don't know if this is intentional across the whole show/franchise but i can really see the way this art form in particular might become a big part of klingon culture and history

there is something so incredibly funny at seeing how much offense fans of the toronto maple leafs take when someone insinuates anything about the experience there is less than optimal because like... why are you siding with an organization or a Concept over the actual people with opinions who have been around and made that organization what it is, lmao. it feels like it ultimately comes down to the crest vs players debate about being into sports, but i just think people love being obtuse on purpose.

seeing keefe say other coaches welcomed him to the "real" nhl after his time in toronto is like... first of all, he's just saying what OTHER people with experience have said... secondly, yeah duh. most coaches don't have to go through the scrutiny that people in toronto do, but watching toronto fans try to turn that into a good thing? like it's not. and it doesn't just have to be the way it is, but fans are brainwashed into thinking everything about the way it is now is The Best bc its in the center of the hockey world and if you can't hack it, you're less than. instead of like.. reflecting on why some of that makes the entire hockey-loving experience WORSE for us as fans and the people we root for than other teams fans have it. like pull your head out of your ass. god forbid there be any nuance to the way you view and cheer for teams just bc it's sports. there is something so pretentious and obnoxious and stupid about the way some leaf fans exist, yet they're the first ones to tear into you or say you're not thinking 'for the team' when you love one the faces of the franchise and continue to believe in them bc it doesn't agree with them, like lol. the dissonance is astounding, but man, if i don't understand why leafs fans are some of the most hated in the league.
