sometimes i think that violently pivoting from gaming videos to eurovision videos is not the best idea until i remember how some of my favorite songs majorly underperformed and i am filled with the violent urge to complain

Note
how do you feel about the running order for the final?
Alright, let's see!
Tumblr media
Austria isn't winning, but could pretty easily make it to top-10 still imo. I personally would have swapped Austria's and Poland's places.
Three red and black stagings back-to-back in the beginning
Switzerland is surprisingly early, but I still believe he'll enjoy large jury support
Poland is summery and cheery between two serious boys, good place for them although still very early in the running order
France is practically performing too early to win the televote but I believe juries will love La Zarra more, especially if she nails the big note
Spain and Sweden back to back is an interesting choice. Two female singers with powerful vocals and songs and impressive stagings, both most likely fitting the jury taste. Is this gonna hurt their chances?
There's gonna be a longer pause before Sweden at least. The producers gave Loreen way earlier spot than I would have expected.
The producers are clearly Finland fans. Finland not only got the best possible place on their half a.k.a. the latest possible, but there are also three ballads in a row before them. I believe Käärijä is winning the televote. The only way to rig this more for Finland would've been to put Loreen even earlier in the running order, but that would have been too obvious. This is our shot to win.
I'm afraid Czechia will drown between Finland and Australia, and those two might also have similar-ish audience.
Moldova will be nice, fresh and simple between two big modern songs.
Lovely late spots for Norway and Germany, they're both probably gonna do really well in the televote.
Israel sandwiched between Lithuania and Slovenia, good for them all.
Also small Balkan countries Slovenia and Croatia so late in the running order, we love to see it <3
Croatia is gonna have huge televote support. UK might benefit from the last place and being refreshingly normal after Croatia, also Mae's vocals might sound better than they are compared to Let 3's.
Bonus: great gag to start the contest with "oh my god, you're such a good writer" and end it with "instead I wrote a song"
Some statistics about the running order below 👇
SInce 2009 when the 50/50 jury/tele system come to use, no one has won performing earlier than 10th. In fact, nobody has won the contest performing earlier than 10th in 20 years, when Turkey performed 4th in 2003.
2009: Norway performed 20th 2010: Germany performed 23rd 2011: Azerbaijan performed 19th (jury winner Italy performed 12th) 2012: Sweden performed 17th 2013: Denmark performed 18th 2014: Austria performed 11th 2015: Sweden performed 10th (tele winner Italy performed 27th, last) 2016: Ukraine performed 21st (tele winner Russia performed 18th, jury winner Australia performed 13th) 2017: Portugal performed 11th 2018: Israel performed 22nd (jury winner Austria performed 5th) 2019: Netherlands performed 12th (jury winner North Macedonia performed 8th, tele winner Norway performed 15th) 2021: Italy performed 24th (jury winner Switzerland performed 11th) 2022: Ukraine performed 12th (jury winner United Kingdom performed 22nd)
Juries are clearly less affected by the running order than televoters, so Sweden is still headed to win the whole thing. I believe Loreen will get enough jury support to win the contest (maybe 300 points from the jury and 200 from the televote), but giving her an earlier spot in the running order definitely evens out the competition and makes it more exciting.

Eurovision Fact #221:
Tumblr media
It is fairly common for a nation to receive an overall final score of nul points in the Eurovision Song Contest, but it’s less common for multiple nations to receive zero points during the same competition. Out of the total sixty-six Eurovision Song Contests that have been held, twenty-two have had at least one contestant who earned zero points.
The most contestants receiving nul points in a single contest is four. This happened a total of four times, all in a row, in 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965.
Austria and Norway are tied for most times earning nul points with a total of 4 losses.
The following is a list of the years in which contestants gained zero points and which nations they were from:
1962: Netherlands, Austria, Spain, and Belgium.
1963: Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
1964: Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Portugal, and Germany.
1965: Spain, Finland, Belgium, and Germany.
1966: Italy and Monaco.
1967: Switzerland.
1970: Luxembourg.
1978: Norway.
1981: Norway.
1982: Finland
1983: Spain and Türkiye.
1987: Türkiye.
1988: Austria.
1989: Iceland.
1991: Austria.
1994: Lithuania
1997: Norway and Portugal
1998: Switzerland.
2003: United Kingdom.

I've just put in my votes for esc250 this year, so here they are!
12. Mall – Albania 2018 10. Dansevise – Denmark 1963 8. Viszlát Nyár – Hungary 2018 7. Midnight Gold – Georgia 2016 6. Molitiva – Serbia 2007 5. Cha Cha Cha – Finland 2023 4. Silêncio e tanta gente – Portugal 1984 3. Aijā – Latvia 2023 2. Stripper – San Marino 2022 1. D.G.T – Romania 2023
I stuck with my usual top five – I briefly considered dropping Midnight Gold a couple of places so I could give even more points to Cha Cha Cha, but I expect Käärijä to do well in the ranking this year without those extra two points! Even so, I still wanted to put it right at the top of my remaining five places – I’m still utterly obsessed with this song! Also from this year I wanted to give points to Aijā as my second favourite, and I also ended up putting D.G.T. on my list. Even though I feel mixed about the version that ended up getting performed at the contest, I still love the original and I’ve been listening to it a lot since May, so I feel it earned a point from me.
Usually when I do this ranking, I tend to swap out my favourite songs in the lower positions, however when I was trying to decide which of my favourite classic entries I should replace Silêncio e tanta gente with, I realised that I somehow like it even more than I did when I put it on the list last year! I also kept Stripper on the list, because, hey, it’s my ranking, and I still love that song a lot from last year.
I expect Cha Cha Cha to easily make top 10 at minimum in the final ranking, and I’m also hoping for Aijā to do well, considering that it seemed to have plenty of fans within the esc fandom. I would be overjoyed, but very surprised, if any of my other bottom five made it – Neither Silêncio e tanta gente or Stripper were in the top 250 last year, and part of why I wanted to give some love to D.G.T. is because I suspect it might not get much from elsewhere.
I’m very interested to see how this year’s ranking will turn out! Obviously I’m hoping for Cha Cha Cha to take the top spot, and I think it does have a legitimate chance, it has a lot of fan love and swept the televote this year. However, Loreen is still super popular with a lot of fans, and she is our reigning winner, so of course you can't rule Tattoo out. With the nature of the ranking, it doesn’t matter if the song is divisive, all that matters is if enough people will vote for it, so I’m sure it will still do very well, though I have no idea if it’ll top the ranking or not. I could even see a scenario where Euphoria regains the number one position, it’s still a good song that’s beloved by a lot of people.
Personally I got tired of Euphoria winning year after year, and enjoyed the shake up with Slo Mo taking top spot last year, although it does mean that we can’t get the scenario of Loreen finally being knocked off the top spot… by Loreen. Since that can’t happen, I’d prefer for someone other than her to be number one this year, ideally Käärijä of course, but it’ll be interesting to see if Chanel has momentum to set up a new winning streak, or if we’re going to get another change at the top. I honestly cannot call it, so I’ll be very interested listening to the countdown this New Year’s Eve!

Note
I think you got it with your prediction. I could totally see a compromise win happening. Some country will win the Jury (Spain?) and another country the Televote (Finland?) while not placing that high in the other category, but there is a 3rd country placing second in each category with not a great point difference and tada - Sweden wins! Could also see Sweden as a Jury winner, I am not so sure about the televote though. Can see a top 5 placing though. I am still holding out hope that a country that never won or won a long long time ago wins but.. maybe next year.
This pretty much sums it up. I'd love to see a situation like 2018 and 2019 when Sweden leads after juries and then bombs in televote.
I think that rn Finland, Norway, Sweden, Czechia and maybe Austria are going to be audience favorites. It's going to be interesting to see if the streaming success of Queen of Kings is going to show in the results and if Who the Hell is Edgar? manages to translate well on stage. Jury has surprised us many times with some of their favorites and is harder to predict, and we have still Armenia's and Georgia's entries to hear. It'd be nice if they surprised us with a real contender.
2017 is one of my favorite winning moments, not because I love Amar Pelos Dois but because so many fans, including myself, were doubting if it could even qualify - and then it came totally from the left field during rehearsal week, started slowly climbing in the odds and gave Portugal their victory after a record of 48 years of trying, singing in their own language and without any staging gimmicks. I'm really hoping to see a moment like that again.
