Satoru Gojo
With Gojo, it depends entirely on his mood. To this versatile man, your defining feature is your portability. You can be a princess, a sack of potatoes, or a handbag. Let's deep-dive these carrying techniques and the mode of use.
The Prince(ss): This is a dignified, relatively comfortable way to be carried around. Face-up, held in front of his chest, one arm under your back and another below your knees. This is how a bride is carried over the threshold; it means you're precious cargo. Gojo uses this carrying style when he's feeling fun and flirty, or when he wants to embarrass you in front of other people, because Gojo is nothing if not a menace. You get a suitably royal pet name to go along with this carrying style—"prince/princess".
The Sack of Potatoes: As you've probably guessed, this is when you get tossed face first over Gojo's shoulder with your ass in the air, much like a farmer carting a sack of produce to market in ye olden days. It's not the most comfortable or dignified position, what with the blood rushing to your head and his shoulder digging into your stomach, but it usually doesn't last long, as this mode of carry is chiefly used to haul your ass to the bedroom when he means to get down to business. Usually accompanied by some groping.
The Handbag (also known as the Football): Do you remember when Gojo brought Yuji to see his fight with Jogo? It's that carry. He grabs you by the belt or the back of your shirt and holds you casually in one hand, like you're a bag of snacks from the konbini. Doesn't matter if you're petite, curvy, or muscular—the man is insanely strong. This is a utility carry, for when he needs to move you from one place to another quickly, or when he needs a hand free to forehead flick a curse out of existence. An alternative is the Football, where he tucks you under one arm like...well, like a football.
Suguru Geto
Suguru is somewhat more likely to respect your ability to self-ambulate than Gojo is. Slightly.
It depends who you are and where along his timeline you meet him. A younger Geto is a little more courteous, or at least pretending to be, so you'll get the Princess. Or the Sack of Potatoes, but with an apology for putting you in that position.
Now, adult!Geto, whether he's in his curse-user, cult-leader canon form or even in an AU where he becomes an instructor at Jujutsu High—Sack of Potatoes. He is a man on a mission, he means business.
You're walking too slow? Shoulder.
Too many non-sorcerers around and he doesn't want their icky smell on you? Shoulder.
Carrying you to bed? Shoulder.
Getting you out of bed? Guess what? Shoulder.
You meet most of his acquaintances ass-first.
Toji Fushiguro
I'm not going to lie to you—sometimes Toji just reaches out, grabs whatever is nearest, and lifts you up by it, kind of like a kid picking up a ragdoll. Sometimes it's your waist, sometimes it's the back of your shirt, sometimes it's a random leg.
He is inhumanly, ridiculously strong, so he can just carry your whole ass self in the crook of one arm. We'll dub this one the Koala.
He also likes to employ the Sack of Potatoes when he is moving you to the bedroom, usually with a hearty slap on the ass for good measure.
Sometimes he just picks you up and moves you out of his way, like you're a chair someone forgot to push in. You get set down on the table or the kitchen counter, like a little knick-knack.
Kento Nanami
Nanami is a gentleman, but also rather no-nonsense, so he'll employ a few different methods, depending on the circumstances.
The Prince(ss): If you're awake, and it's for a relatively short distance, he'll sweep you up in his arms, cradling you in a cocoon of muscles, pressed linen, and GQ-recommended cologne. This is when he wants to be a bit romantic, or for when you've twisted your ankle and he's helping you over to the couch.
If you're unconscious (perhaps injured) or he has to take you a long distance and can't just drive you for whatever reason, then he's going to hoist you into a Fireman's Carry. You're getting balanced evenly across both his shoulders.
What? He's heading for his late twenties. It's important that he protects his back.
Does he need to show you the Safe Lifting diagram again?
"Slipped discs are not romantic."
Ryomen Sukuna
Normally Sukuna's of the opinion that you can walk your damn self if you need to get somewhere, because he's not your pack mule. But let's say our King of Curses is feeling possessive and doesn't want to let his little tribute out of his sight?
If he's in his seven-foot-plus tall form, then he has four giant, muscular arms, and it only takes one of them to hold you clasped tight to his chest, like a doll or a pet (neither of which are entirely inaccurate descriptions for what you are).
You can watch the world from within the cage of his arms, in your own little perch.
And yes, he is also very much a subscriber to the Sack of Potatoes/Freshly Killed Deer school of brat wrangling. But watch out, because he'll do a lot more than just slap your ass while you're in that position.
Hand mouth.
Need I say more?

Good Neighbors | part four
König x Reader
part one part two part three
CW: reader has feminine pronouns, not edited
note: sorry this was so short, was kind of hitting a block so I just wanted to write and see where it goes, this week has been a bit tough with family so just wanted to write to write and tried not to put too much pressure on myself with this

You couldn’t help the groan that left your lips as you stretched out in your bed the next morning. The thumping behind your eyes was prominent, and you just knew you were experiencing a hangover from last night’s drinking. You didn’t plan on drinking so much the night before, but red wine catches up on you quickly, especially when you weren’t the one pouring your own glasses. You even knew going to bed last night that you should’ve drank some more water before going to bed but you were just so sleepy.
Finally convincing yourself to get up, you roll to your side and scooch out of bed. Carefully you step down the stairs, trying your best to not wake your grandmother up. Making your way to the kitchen, you quickly gulped down a glass of water and an acetaminophen.
You already knew what you were getting yourself into today, your uncle had asked, well more like voluntoldyou to set up the metal wheelchair ramp he had bought off of one of his buddies. He told you it was easy enough, one of those portable aluminum and steel ones that you just had to make sure was correctly docked to the front porch and everything will be easy. You appreciated his confidence in you, but you would be more confident in yourself if you didn’t have this hangover to deal with.
Your uncle had told you that he left the pieces to the ramp just inside the shed in Carol’s backyard, and when you casually tried to ask why he didn’t just set it up himself since he’s the one who insisted on buying it for her, you were told he didn’t have the time. Funnily enough, most of your family members seemed to have the same answer any time you would ask them about visiting your grandmother or helping with projects around the house.
You didn’t have the heart to tell your grandmother that you tried to corral some of your local family members to stop by the house sometime soon, not even to have them help with a project, you just wanted them to see Carol but the most positive answers you received were wishy washy we’ll see’s.
Part of you still hopes that working on these projects, updating the house, and making the home more usable and accessible will encourage more family members to stop by and see this as the family home again, just like your childhood. But the other part of your brain knows that that the dream is just that at this point.
Prying open the creaky shed door, you’re met with the pile on metal planks and railing pieces are all stacked in pile just inside the doorway, just like your uncle said. Huffing, you start to move the pieces into the small garden cart you were able to pull out from underneath your grandmother’s back deck. Once the cart was sufficiently full, pulling the cart to front the yard, careful not to slip in the small patches of mud in the front. Thankfully it only took a few trips to get all of the pieces up to the front yard, but even now looking at the pile in front of you, you felt a bit in over your head.
You don’t even realize how long you’ve been staring at this pile of planks, trying to figure out where to even start, let alone make your game plan on how to handle these, before hearing some shuffling of footsteps in the leaves behind you. Looking over your shoulder, you catch König walking up to you, and he stops casually next to you, without much of a greeting.
“What’s this?” He asks while nodding over to the pile in front of the two of you.
“Wheelchair ramp”
“For Carol?”
“Mhm, one of my uncles bought it for her, doesn’t want her doing as many stairs. Doctor’s been trying to convince her to use a walker when leaving the house apparently, and my uncle hopes this’ll convince her to.”
“You’re the one installing it?” You chose not to acknowledge the slight tonal change in König’s usually level tone and from the corner of your eye you could see him giving you a look, but again you chose to ignore it.
“Well, that’s the plan at least” you say bending down to mess with the looser pieces in the pile, picking up the bag of bolts and screws from the ground. “Can’t be that hard.” This time when you heard a small huff of laughter from König, you whipped your face to the side to give him a what? look.
“Give me a second.” König said casually with a turn before jogging off to his own backyard. Within a minute or two, he was jogging back to you with a bag of tools in hand. He let out a quiet let me see these, before softly grabbing the bag of bolts and directions from your hands, and just like that, started working through the pile of planks and lining them up in order, while pulling the planks with his right arm, the directions in his left.
You just quietly filed behind him, grabbing the tools he asked for and bringing them back to the bag once he was sufficiently done with them. Sometimes he would ask you for your thoughts, having you lean down next to him, double checking that the support beams looked correct to you. You didn’t really know what a correct support beams looked like, but if you had to guess, you would say it should look like this. But König still waited for your response each time he asked your thoughts on the process.
“Alright, I need you to do something for me” König finally looks up from the project and up to you, pausing before he continues, and you nod excitedly waiting for his directions. “I’m going to hold this plank in place, I’ve already drilled the pilot holes, but I need you to screw the bolts into them with the nuts, yeah?” You nod and he continues “there’s a socket wrench in the bag, grab that.”
From there, you follow König’s directions on picking the right size of the socket wrench to the most efficient way to get the bolt in without hurting your wrist. You have used a socket wrench once or twice in the past, but still you appreciated his guidance. He really had made you feel like an equal in this project, even if you weren’t carrying your equal part in this project.
Once you felt the bolts were successfully tightened into spots, you straightened your back and looked down between him and the bolts, “good?”
König took the socket wrench from and did a quick wench on each of the bolts, “good.” He sat back on his legs, letting out a huff, and gazing over the completed ramp. “It’s complete, but we’ll have to fix the railing.” He says reaching up and patting the bottom half of the railing on the porch that was still sitting in front on the entrance to the competed ramp.
“You two have worked hard enough this morning, you can fix the railing after lunch.” Carol says from the front door, you didn’t even realize she had been standing there watching, or just how long the two of you had been at this project. The soft morning sun had already shifted to a blaze straight above your head, and you hadn’t even noticed, too caught up in the project.
“It’s easy enough Carol, just give me-“
“No, come on you two, you need to eat and drink something, can’t have the two of you getting sick.” Carol cut off König, and with a smile she turned back into the house and out of sight. With that, you knew she expected you two to follow.
“Come on, no sense on fighting her on this” you gave König a soft smile and laugh, before reaching your hand out to help him up off the ground. He took it, his hand dwarfing yours and the callouses on fingers grazing your softer hands, and stood. Even with your offer to help him up and his palm on yours, he didn’t actually apply any of his weight on your grasp.
Once up he brushed his hands off on his pants and attempted a soft smile, “after you” he said with a nod and followed you up the steps into house. The clattering the pans gave you pause, as you knew her talent for cooking had unfortunately dropped these past couple of years, and you let out a soft oh god, before you hurrying your steps into the kitchen. “oh geez Grandma, please just let me cook lunch.”

crossroads: chapter 2
javier pena x fem/ single mom reader
The morning sun streamed through the windows of their new home, casting a warm glow over the kitchen. Y/N and Elle had been awake since 9 AM, grateful for the extra rest Elle had gotten by sleeping in. Elle's laughter filled the room as she danced to a song playing on the iPad. Y/N chuckled while flipping pancakes on the griddle.
"Do you want chocolate chips on your pancake?" Y/N asked, glancing over her shoulder at her daughter.
"Yes, pwease!" Elle said, still twirling to the music.
Just as Y/N plated the pancakes, the doorbell rang. Startled, she put down the plate and walked to the door. Peeking through the peephole, she sighed in relief when she saw the delivery people. Opening the door, she greeted them warmly.
"Hi, I’m Elle," her daughter chimed in, pushing her way between Y/N and the door. She flashed a toothless grin at the delivery guy.
"Hi there, Elle! I’m Harry," the delivery guy said, smiling back. "I’m here to deliver and build your furniture."
Y/N exhaled, grateful that she had signed up for the furniture assembly service. "Thank you so much," she said, stepping aside to let the delivery team in. She placed Elle in her portable high chair and set a pancake in front of her.
As Elle happily munched on her breakfast, Y/N directed the movers where to place the already assembled furniture. "Can I get you guys a water or anything?" she asked.
"That would be perfect," one of them replied.
After a few hours of work, the movers had finished setting up everything. Y/N thanked them profusely as they left, closing the door behind them.
"Alright, munchkin, we gotta go to Walmart. We need a TV, groceries, and some other things for the house," Y/N said, helping Elle put on her shoes. They grabbed Y/N's purse and headed to the car. She buckled Elle into her car seat and drove to Walmart.
On the way, Elle begged for a new toy. Y/N sighed, considering how well-behaved Elle had been recently. "Okay, you can have one toy, but nothing too expensive," she agreed.
At Walmart, Y/N placed Elle in the shopping cart and locked the car. They wandered through the aisles, filling the cart with groceries, home decor, and other necessities. At the checkout, Y/N asked the cashier to put the two TVs on hold and to help load them into her car. They finally checked out and headed home, with all the items they came for, including Elle's new toy.
Back at home, Y/N lugged the two TVs inside, setting one up in the living room and the other in the bedroom. She put away the groceries and decorated the house to make it feel like a home. Elle begged her mom to go play outside on the new playset the builders had assembled. Giving in, Y/N took her daughter outside and pushed her on the swing.
"Higher, Mommy!" Elle squealed with delight.
Y/N laughed and pushed her higher into the air. After an hour and a half in the summer heat, the sun began to set. "Alright, peanut, time to go inside. We gotta make dinner," she said, leading Elle back inside.
In the kitchen, Y/N stared at the cabinet, deciding on spaghetti for dinner. She set to work, preparing the meal while Elle played with her toys on the floor. As they sat down to eat, Y/N heard a car door shut outside. It must be her neighbor, she thought, but she ignored it and continued eating.
After dinner, she packaged some leftover spaghetti for her neighbor, thinking it would be a nice gesture. Meanwhile, next door, Javier Peña had just gotten home from a night shift. He noticed the "For Sale" sign was gone and an SUV was parked in the driveway. He stared at it for a moment, trying to remember where he had seen that car before. Shrugging it off, he went inside, hoping his new neighbors would be nicer than the last ones.
Cracking open a beer, Javier sighed as he stood in front of the empty fridge. A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. He walked over, ready to open it when he heard a small voice on the other side.
"Mommy, do you think they are home?" Elle asked.
Javier opened the door to see the woman and child he had helped the previous day with a flat tire. She looked even more beautiful than he remembered.
"Hey, Javier, right? The sheriff?" Y/N said, smiling. "Nice to see you again. We’re neighbors now. I made spaghetti for dinner and didn’t want the leftovers, so I figured why not share some with my neighbor?" she rambled, holding out a Tupperware container.
Javier grinned, finding her rambling endearing. "Thank you, that's very sweet of you," he said, taking the container. He crouched down to Elle's level. "And who might this be?" he asked.
Elle giggled. "Hi, mister! I’m Elle and I’m three," she said, holding up three fingers.
"It's nice to meet you, Elle," Javier said warmly. "Thank you for the spaghetti. It smells delicious."
Y/N smiled, feeling a flutter in her chest. "It was no problem at all. We just wanted to say hello."
"Well, I'm glad you did," Javier replied, standing up. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."
"We will," Y/N said, her smile growing wider. "Have a good evening, Javier."
"You too," he said, watching as Y/N and Elle walked back to their house. He felt a sense of hope for the first time in a while. Maybe having new neighbors wouldn't be so bad after all.
Back in their house, Y/N felt a sense of accomplishment. They were settling in, making connections, and building a new life. As she tucked Elle into bed that night, she whispered, "Sweet dreams, my love. Tomorrow is a new day."
Elle smiled sleepily. "Goodnight, Mommy. I love you."
"I love you too, peanut," Y/N said, kissing her forehead. She quietly left the room, feeling a mix of exhaustion and contentment. They were on the right path, and that was all that mattered.
Y/N got into her bedroom and started to unpack her things, methodically placing her belongings in the closet and drawers. She made her bed, smoothing out the sheets and fluffing the pillows, but her mind kept wandering to Javier. The image of him glistening in the sun, his strong muscles flexing as he fixed her tire, and his confident smile were etched into her memory. She could almost feel the warmth of his presence, and her thoughts began to stir something deep within her.
As she pulled back the covers, her heart raced. She reached into the drawer of her nightstand and pulled out a vibrator. The anticipation made her hands tremble slightly as she pushed aside her underwear. Her mind filled with images of Javier—his firm hands, his chiseled jaw, and the way his uniform hugged his body in all the right places.
Y/N closed her eyes, letting her fantasies take over. She imagined Javier leaning over her, his breath hot against her skin as he whispered in her ear. She turned on the vibrator, the gentle hum sending shivers down her spine. Slowly, she moved it against her slick folds, her body responding eagerly to the sensation.
Her thoughts intensified, picturing Javier’s hands exploring her body, his fingers tracing every curve. She imagined the feel of his lips on her neck, his teeth grazing her skin. Her breathing quickened as the vibrator pulsed against her clit, her hips moving in rhythm with her fantasies.
In her mind, Javier’s voice was a low, seductive growl, telling her how much he wanted her, how beautiful she was. The thought of his strong hands gripping her hips, pulling her closer, made her moan softly. She increased the speed of the vibrator, the pleasure building inside her.
Y/N’s body arched off the bed as she imagined Javier thrusting into her, his body pressed firmly against hers. The fantasy was so vivid, she could almost feel his weight on top of her, the heat of his skin against hers. Her orgasm built rapidly, the sensation overwhelming as she envisioned Javier bringing her to the edge.
With a final thrust of the vibrator, she cried out, her body convulsing with pleasure. Waves of ecstasy washed over her, leaving her breathless and trembling. She lay there for a moment, basking in the afterglow, her mind still filled with images of Javier.
As she turned off the vibrator and set it aside, she smiled to herself. The thought of seeing him again, of maybe getting to know him better, filled her with a new sense of excitement. She pulled the covers over herself, feeling satisfied and drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile, next door, Javier had just finished his beer and was trying to unwind from his shift. He couldn’t get Y/N out of his mind the way she looked when he first saw her stranded on the side of the road, her grateful smile when he offered to help, and the way she rambled adorably when she brought him the spaghetti. His thoughts wandered to her curves and the spark in her eyes, sending a rush of heat through his body.
Unable to resist, he moved to his bedroom, shutting the door behind him. He lay down on his bed, unbuttoning his jeans and reaching for himself. As he stroked his growing erection, he imagined Y/N’s soft skin beneath his hands, her moans filling his ears. The fantasy grew more intense, picturing her writhing beneath him, her breathless whispers driving him wild.
Javier’s hand moved faster, his mind lost in the thought of being with Y/N. The pleasure built quickly, his body tensing as he imagined her calling his name, her body arching in ecstasy. With a deep groan, he came, the release leaving him breathless and spent.
As he lay there, recovering from his climax, a smile tugged at his lips. The thought of seeing Y/N again, of possibly exploring whatever this was between them, filled him with a sense of anticipation. Both of them, in their separate homes, drifted off to sleep, their thoughts intertwined with possibilities of what tomorrow might bring.

2024!
I tend to try to make a yearly post on new year's so here it is lol
2024 was a bit of a hit and miss for me I guess. A big chunk of it was unbearably unpleasant and plagued by some of my worst bouts of depression in a while, but some things got a little better too.
A lot of stress was from my job, when I finished the project I had been working on for a few years and was put on a different project that I hated lmao. I was forced in office way more often, had to listen to my very unpleasant desk neighbors, and it immediatly made my arm and finger pain flares so much worse. It sucked so bad sdfsg. I had no energy to cook or clean or wash dishes or do anything and my appartment became a mess and everything sucked.
I changed department in october-ish, going from functionality QA to analytics QA. It's something I was remotely interested in but my project made me want to switch as soon as I could and I did. Analytics has been a lot more chill, my arm was able to heal and I can work from home as well. There's still some stress and impostor syndrome but at least things are more chill. There's a bit of worry over my job security for the coming year tho lol.
my maternal grandmother passed away this year, shortly before her birthday, and it was a bit rough, and I still think of her regularly and I miss her, but I hope she's having a nice restful time with grandpa up there.
My health has been so-so this year as well. I got some kind of stomach flu earlier in the year for the first time in litteral years, I had an extremely painful ear infection in october (idk if the stress just got me bad this year), and I'm currently wrangling with some other mysterious health situation that I'm currently doing tests for. While the initial tests didn't seem to show anything alarming, it's been stressful and also been occasionally impacting my daily life in an unpleasant way so yknow sdfsg. I'm hoping to get to the bottom of it this year.
at some point in october I realised I had to change some things bc I couldn't keep up with chores and it was becoming a problem, dishes in particular. It was stopping me from wanting to cook and I was letting stuff pile up, so I finally bought a dishwasher. There's no connection for dishwasher in my appartment so I went for a small countertop model I can hook to my sink and it's been a lifechanger. Unfortunately my kitchen ceiling is low so I can't actually leave it on my counter lol but I've been making it work. ideally I'd like to upgrade to a portable someday but $$$
this may sound dumb but I haven't forgotten about the sonic cookbook post I was supposed to make months ago. The job stress and everything else forced me to put it aside, but I recently found some places where I could source the peppers needed to make Sonic's chili, so I'm hoping I can make that post soon. And maybe feel motivated enough to resume my project of cooking from all my nerdy cookbooks.
Also this year I went to see Drum Tao, Sonic Symphony (which was incredible), Distant Worlds and TWRP live! I wanted to go to more shows so I think that was pretty good.
Collection-wise I slowed on figures but I got my hands on some manga, some artbooks, and several soundtracks so that's nice. I have also started a casual collection of specific dnd books, basically anything that has a significant enough section related to the drow, just before christmas I got my hands on the last 5e book I was looking for, so I'll be hunting for older books now. I already have PDFs of them all so in the worst case I'll probably print them for myself (maybe bind them myself? we'll see), but I'll keep my eye out for used copies. I want to get my hands on a few specific ttrpg books as well eventually but money's been a bit tighter so I haven't commited.
My living room is looking relatively finished now. I have a coffee table, 4 kitchen chairs. I'd like to get a dresser of some sort to put my printer on, and a better cart for my dishwasher, but it's looking nice, which is why i wanna focus on my bedroom now.
idk what to expect from 2025 but I would like to once again try to make more art (would be nice to actually commit to making a zine), get back into cosplay, take control of my bedroom mess which is still in the throes of the post-move clusterfuck (and get more furniture for it), improve my collection displays and maybe be able to unbox everything???. I'd like to put money aside to go to galaxy's edge. I'd like to cook more, and I'd like to spend quality time with my friends.
I hope everybody has a safe and peaceful new year!

Fanfic: Beast of a World - Pilot (Beastars)
READ NOW ON AO3!
My Zoo Balances no longer made the floor creak as I stepped intently down the hall. My large bushy tail swished back and forth and no longer kicked up a small cloud of dust. I no longer had to hunch my back for the short ceilings, but I did anyway.
Anticipation, anxiety, wonder, responsibility all settled onto my shoulders and into my head. Numerous doors were open with excited beasts mingling, both carnivore and herbivore, big and small, no longer as afraid for their lives. What would be waiting for me behind my door? After the whirlwind of a year I’d had with the ups and downs of coming to terms with who I truly am, and bringing down an entire institution in our city, I stopped in front of the entryway to the next chapter of my life and took a breath in and out.
I inserted the new key to room 504 of the newly renovated Beast Apartments and unlocked the door with a satisfying clunk. With a surge of adrenaline, I revealed my new home for the second first time ever.
As was often the case, I struggled to find the right words to express what I felt. A light colored wood floor spread out in front of me, raised from where I stood by a step. The walls were plain white, untextured and awaiting its tenant’s personal touch. After a second, which felt like an eternity, I swallowed and blinked back to reality.
“It’s…bigger,” I said, my weighted voice coming out in a mere whisper.
“C’mon, man!” said Durham, coming to stand next to me in the doorway. “Compared to what it was? This is amazing!” He gestured an arm toward the empty apartment.
“I guess,” I responded, my arm coming to rest on my hip.
“You don’t like it?” he asked.
Jack poked his nose through my arm. “Aw, he’s just having big feelings, right, Legoshi?”
I gasped at his sudden presence. “I-I mean-”
“What’s it look like?” asked Kolo.
“An empty apartment,” Durham snarked.
Kolo jumped up behind me to look over us. I wasn’t expecting his weight on top of me and I lost my balance, taking everyone else to the floor with me in a dogpile.
We groaned for a moment until the sound of squeaky wheels coming to rest perked my ears up. Craning my neck as far as I could, I saw Boss on a luggage cart loaded with cardboard boxes. He gave us all a dirty look, brow creased, then vaulted onto the top of our dogpile. “Thanks for leaving me in the lobby, guys,” he grumbled.
+++
My name’s Legoshi. I’m a gray wolf. Well, gray wolf/Komodo dragon hybrid, but you’d never know that unless you know me. But I’ve come to know a lot of beasts in such a short time. I used to resign myself to the shadows, scared of myself and my place in the world around me, but so much has happened to me and because of me in so little time that I can’t think like that anymore. I have friends, family, love, and my own personal sanctuary, so it’s time to embrace life for all it’s worth and leave my world better than I found it.
+++
Move-in day was well underway, and I knew I’d want no other beasts to help me than my family from Cherryton Academy, the Room 701 Canines.
Jack set a box on the white stone countertop in my new expanded kitchenette. “How’s grandpa Gosha, by the way?”
“He’s doing good,” I said, knocking a loose fist against the wall, my intact ear pressed against it. “He wished I could stay longer once he heard renovations finished.” I removed my ear and it twitched. “Thicker walls.”
“You can tell?” asked Durham, heaving a box of his own.
“No, the landlord told me,” I said matter-of-factly.
Durham nodded. “Right.”
“You gonna cook a lot with your new kitchen?” asked Jack.
“I suppose,” I said. What was formerly a mini fridge and portable one-burner stove in the corner was now a three-burner stovetop and full-sized fridge, with a proper cabinet unit to boot, terms I learned from Grandpa. “It would be cheaper than getting convenience store meals every day.”
“You work at an udon shop, though,” said Durham, giving me a playful punch. “Dinner’s taken care of right there, and it’s free!” Being an earth-colored coyote, he liked playing a little rough with us but we all knew him as a jovial, easygoing beast.
Kolo emerged from my new private bathroom and shook out his bushy English sheepdog ears. “That’s like going to the cafeteria every day and all they have is fried rice.”
“You kidding? That’s awesome!” said Durham.
“We’ll see how you feel after day three.” Kolo might’ve winked, but if he pushed his long bangs back and showed us his eyes, we and everyone within a five meter line of sight would be smitten with him.
“You just miss having infinite food that you don’t have to cook for yourself,” Durham smirked.
Kolo raised a finger as if to protest. After a pause, he let it dangle. “Got me there.”
Durham crossed his arms. “Spoken like a true gamer.”
“I love to cook,” said Jack, opening another box while seated on the floor. “It’s a great way to decompress from the day. And making something makes me feel good.” Jack could light up the darkest room just by talking to you and smiling. It was a labrador retriever trademark, and a big reason why we’ve been close friends since grade school.
“Maybe you can teach me some things,” I said, crouching down to help him unpack my small manga collection. “I can make egg salad and Bebebe’s number two, but that’s about it.”
“You’ve never made Haru dinner?!” Boss exclaimed.
I looked up toward his vantage point on the counter. He didn’t talk much, being a fennec fox in a world of bigger beasts. But when he did speak up, we listened.
“She…she never asked,” I said meekly.
Boss brought his palm to his face. “You’re fumbling all the important parts of dating.”
“Well, I’ve met her family,” I pointed out, standing up, “and we’ve had dinner at her house. That’s gotta count, right?”
The silence was telling.
I scratched the back of my bushy head. “I-is there a checklist I’m supposed to go through before we marry?”
“Legoshi,” said Durham, placing a hand on my shoulder. “There’s a method to this. We’re not reckless high school students anymore. We’re grown beasts now.”
“We’re all 19,” Kolo pointed out.
“That’s basically 30,” said Durham with a smirk. “I’m pretty sure brain development stops at 18.”
“Maybe yours has,” Jack giggled.
“Well, we can’t all be ‘special class’ Jack, now can we?” Durham retorted, pushing off me getly to go give Jack a noogie, to the labrador’s immediate protesting.
I set my rolled-up futon against a wall and smiled. It really felt like I was back in school again and I grasped for all of that wistful honey I could hold for the fleeting moments it was there.
“I want to make sure I don’t mess this up,” I declared. “Haru deserves nothing but the best. I’ll have her over for dinner tonight and I’ll cook her something delicious.” I took out my phone and typed out a quick message: I’ve moved back into my apartment today. I would love to have you over for dinner tonight. I tapped the “Send” button on screen and my heart skipped a beat. “Okay,” I said, with an exhale, “It’s sent.”
“Way to go, Legoshi!” Jack cheered. The rest followed, congratulating me and patting me on my broad back.
“Heck, you could throw a party here if you wanted,” said Durham, spreading his arms to emphasize the added space in my room.
“I just can’t believe all this is mine,” I breathed. “I’ve never had something like this before. I don’t know how I’m going to fill it up.”
“Maybe Louis can help,” said Kolo.
“Louis…” I drifted off and leaned against the wall, looking out the nearby window at a missing presence not only in the room, but in my life.
Kolo lowered slightly, taken aback. “Did I pee on his flowers or something?”
“Legoshi hasn’t heard from him since the incident,” said Jack quietly. “Neither have we.”
“Sometimes friends drift apart,” Durham shrugged. “It happens.”
“Not to them,” said Jack, pointing his nose to me.
Suddenly, my hand vibrated. “That was quick,” I noted.
“What’d she say?” asked Durham. The other dogs gathered around my phone, tails stiff with eagerness.
I pulled up her message. “Oh,” I murmured. “She has to study for a test tonight.”
All of our tails drooped, and my stomach burned with embarrassment. I should’ve foreseen something like this happening. “Maybe I asked her too soon.”
Kolo put his hands on his hips. “Certified 19-year-old moment.”
Durham dropped his ears and stared daggers at Kolo. “Shut up, man.”
+++
That sounds very nice, but I have a test coming up that I need to study for tonight. But I’m free tomorrow night, let’s do it then.
I pressed the “Send” button and set my phone down next to my mug. The door to the campus café opened with a ring and in stepped a pretty miniature rex rabbit in a fuzzy coat. The scar running in between her eyes and up head didn’t detract from the attractive black half-mask on her face. I waved at her and she nodded before walking to where I was seated and taking the other chair.
I slung an arm over the seat-back and asked, “So should I call you Ms. Campus now, Ako?”
She beamed, smiling stretching from tall ear to tall ear. “Haru, isn’t it fantastic? Eado was onstage for my acceptance speech too.”
I returned her sunny smile. “It’s good that you two have found true love.” Taking a sip of my tea, I said, “So when did the crowd stop throwing tomatoes at him?”
“Haru!” she slammed the table, grin not leaving all the while.
“Sorry,” I laughed, “I couldn’t help it.”
“Oh, we had them eating out of our palms!” Ako barked, her intensity on full display. “A rabbit getting back together with the handsome lion that literally scarred her for life?” She leaned back in her chair. “It’s a wonder we’re not trending on Beastbook.”
“Of course, you’re not dating him for that anymore, right?”
Ako cleared her throat. “Of course not. It’s just…hard to let bad habits go sometimes.”
“Yeah, I understand,” I said. “The Black Market incident gave us all time to think.” For a white dwarf rabbit like myself living in a world of bigger, more ferocious beasts, I realized that to truly live life on my own terms like I wanted, I had to accept what I truly valued the most, and it all pointed back to that strong, awkward, sweet-hearted gray wolf I called my boyfriend.
“So how are you and Legoshi?” asked Ako. “I still can’t believe he went from almost devouring you two years ago to you asking him to marry you and then divorce right after. Who does that?”
I shrugged. “I thought it was the only way we could remain on equal footing as a carnivore and herbivore. I wanted him to chase me forever, but he threw it right in my face. So here we are, facing the world together head-on.”
“I hope me and Eado can have what you two have,” she said, glancing at her phone.
“What we have wouldn’t trend on Beastbook.” Ako stuck her tongue out at me. “Legoshi moved back into his apartment today.”
“That dump?” Ako scoffed.
“Beast Apartments was never that bad,” I retorted. “But it’s much nicer now. I wonder how different his cardboard box table would feel in a bigger space.”
Ako snorted. “That’s like eating a five-star meal in a McHenald’s.”
“He invited me over to see it tonight, but I really need to study for my test on Friday.”
“Really?” Ako asked. “How hard could it be to memorize a bunch of flowers?”
“As hard as it is to memorize every kind of shoe for a fashion degree.”
Ako thought for a moment and said, “Touché. Well, maybe take your stuff with you and have a study session, if you get my drift.”
She gestured her ear at me and heat rose to my cheeks. “They didn’t always end like that, you know, even at Cherryton.” I rolled my eyes, being reminded of my promiscuous past. Instead of dwelling on it, I retrieved my phone from my bag and pulled up Louis’s contact. “But speaking of, I should let Louis know. He’ll be glad to know Legoshi’s back on his feet again.”
“I can’t imagine being friends with the one and only Horns Conglomerate president,” said Ako, twirling an ear in her fingertips. “What does a person with that much power do with himself?”
“I ask but he doesn’t say much,” I said. “Legoshi says he hasn’t talked to him since the incident. I wonder why…”
+++
What does the president of a multi-billion yen corporation with more social influence than our mayor do all day? I thought, opening the ornate mahogany door. He sits pretty at meetings watching his underlings debate, then he returns to his office to contemplate his next public address. All in all, it doesn’t amount to much.
As I stood in front of what used to be my father’s office, I couldn’t help but say to myself, “Is it going from one cage to another if it has its own private toilet?” I chuckled at my morbid joke, a sense of humor I admit developed more and more since I took up his old mantle.
I set my briefcase down beside my expensive hand-carved mahogany desk and fell into my faux-leather chair, filled mahogany bookshelves flanking me to my rear and to either side. In as noisy and chaotic a life as I had lived to this point, I had not yet gotten used to the silence of my office in the Horns Conglomerate, the corporation led by only red deer. I had at least gotten used to the same mahogany stain #45 used in every piece of furniture.
My phone vibrated against my chest, and I pulled it from my suit jacket.
Did you hear that Legoshi moved back into his renovated apartment? wrote Haru. He invited me over but I’ll have to come tomorrow night. Maybe you should go over tonight and make sure he’s doing okay.
I sighed. “Of all the things to break me out of the beauty of corporate board monotony, it could only be that wolf.”
I’ll admit, I’ve let my responsibilities get in the way of our friendship, but life isn’t like a movie. I don’t get what I want when there’s work to be done. It’s always been this way.
“He misses you. And I do too.”
I’d heard that phrase a time or few from Haru since the incident, but it felt different this time. It was as if the universe itself was compelling me to check up on him. I decided to give him a call. The dial tone rang once, then twice, then…
“Louis! Thank goodness!” came his frantic voice.
A flood of memories came back to me, each one flying by faster than the last. My bad leg began to ache at the nub. He was only this wired before he did something dangerous. I wasn’t sure I could handle that again. Perhaps that’s why we hadn’t spoken.
“Wh-what’s going on?” I asked, a shake already in my voice.
“I-I need some advice-should I buy a couch or some barstools?”
I paused, my eyelid twitching. “E-excuse me?”
“I only have enough money for a couch or a barstool set, but I don’t know what I need more!”
I felt a migraine coming on. “You, the wolf who brought the Black Market to its knees, are calling a very busy president for furniture advice?!”
“Sorry,” he said, “I just thought since you’re older and have your own place, you’d know more about these things than me. A-and you called me, right?! I haven’t heard your voice in so long!”
I shook my head. “As much as I too delight in hearing from you again, you’re hopeless.”
“S-sorry.”
“And stop apologizing!” I sounded like a father scolding his son. I am two weeks his senior.
“This isn’t a good time for you, is it?” I could hear his ears drooping.
I leaned back in my seat. “No, it’s fine,” I assured him. “It’s just nice to hear you’re not about to run headfirst into a fight to the death.”
“I’ll admit, it’s nice getting to live a normal life now. I moved back into Beast Apartments. I’m having Haru for dinner tomorrow- er, over! Having her over for dinner!”
“I know what you meant,” I said, using all I had to keep from laughing out loud.
“I want it to look like a proper home for her, not just the shabby room it used to be.”
I smiled. “At this point, Legoshi, I doubt you have to earn her love anymore.”
“I feel so lucky to get to be her beast. Until I feel worthy of it, I want to earn it any way I can.”
It was truly admirable. The kind of love they had, I knew it would last a lifetime. “You’re stealing my lines, you know.”
“I…I am?”
“From ‘Adler.’ You said I would know more than you, wouldn’t I?”
“Yeah, you’re right. You wore his mask.”
Ah, my acting days. “Meet me at Don Quixote in 15 minutes.” Hanging up, I pulled up my messages with Haru and wrote, You sure you won’t visit him tonight? He’s asking me to help him buy furniture.
She responded after a moment, What’s he wanting to buy?
I tapped on my latest-generation phone, an advantage of being suddenly wealthy, Either a couch or barstools. I’ll help him buy a whole living room if it gives you enough time to come see him tonight.
The response, You always know how to put yourself aside and get things done.
Suddenly it felt like the world was looking in on me with piercing eyes. What’s that supposed to mean? I texted.
See you both tonight. ^_^, she said.
I locked my phone and rubbed my temples. Constant thorns in my side, the pair of them, and I couldn’t imagine a life without them.
+++
Louis opened my apartment door and entered, tossing the key on the kitchen counter. I lumbered in after, the three boxes of furniture we bought cradled in my arms. My arms burned as I inched down toward the floor in the middle of the room.
Louis looked from one corner of the ceiling to the other. “It’s…bigger,” he said.
My breath cascaded out as I finally set the boxes down. “Talk about stealing lines,” I panted, leaning on the boxes. “I said the same thing earlier. That’s why I’m glad you’re here. I don’t want it to be just a shabby room anymore.”
I wiped my brow and turned to Louis, expecting him to respond. But he continued to look around my room, taking slow steps around the perimeter. The boxes from earlier were in a pile next to my futon which we laid out in the corner. On top of it was my modest collection of belongings. Other than that, the space was empty.
“What are you looking at, Louis?” I asked, leaning to the side.
He abruptly turned back to me then looked down. He straightened his black tie and shoved his hands into his tailored trouser pockets. “Somehow…” he said, “I find myself feeling nostalgic of the peril I’ve endured with you over the past year. It seems so far away and feels so much more meaningful when all I do is meet with the same eight pairs of horns all day.”
“We haven’t talked to each other in a while,” I said, rubbing my arm where I once drew my blood into a bag with his. “I…wasn’t sure if we were still friends.”
Louis smirked, lifting his trouser leg to show me his prosthetic. “Silly wolf. I’m a part of you whether you like it or not. If any normal beast knew my path would set them up for life, maybe they’d have their leg eaten sooner.”
I choked on my voice and stumbled back. “Hey! Y-you know I don’t like you joking like that!”
“And I dislike you apologizing when you don’t need to,” Louis responded.
“Sorry,” I said. I groaned and sputtered for a moment. “Wh-where’s this coming from?”
“We are where we are thanks to each other. You’ve changed our world because of your strength and conviction.”
One of our old back and forth discussions. My mind made the switch in an instant. “And you gave me the conviction I needed every time. When I saved Haru from the Shishi-Gumi, when I fought Riz, and when I took on Melon and the Black Market. You were always there for me.”
“I played my bit part,” Louis retorted. “Even now, I’m not sure how impactful my work with the Horns Conglomerate really is.” He crossed his arms. “We’re making record profits and yet, my work of overseeing useless meetings and writing speeches is never done.”
“It sounds like you’re not happy,” I said.
Louis shut his eyes, deep in thought. When he opened them, his face was hard. “I don’t need to be happy,” he said. “I need to fulfill my responsibilities.”
I walked up to Louis so that our muzzles were a breath apart. “Fulfilling your responsibilities shouldn’t mean throwing away your own happiness. Your life doesn’t have to be like it was before.”
Louis gasped and stepped back, wide-eyed and so vulnerable. “Are…are you okay?” I asked him.
He laughed wetly and turned away from me. He never liked to show his emotions in front of people. Perhaps I had said what he needed to hear, which amazed me. I gave him all the time he needed to compose himself. He spoke again with his back to me. “You’re right.  I’ve missed you…so much, Legoshi. I’m sorry I never reached out sooner.”
“It’s okay,” I said, putting a hand delicately on his shoulder. “I’m just glad you’re here now. I didn’t want to start my new life without you.”
Louis nodded, the light reflecting in his damp eyes. He wiped them and stared right into my soul. “Just make me a promise.”
How did he get more beautiful with every meeting? “Yeah?”
I listened closely to his every word. “Your life is as valuable as the herbivores you care about. Promise me you’ll look after yourself.”
I nodded, recalling the pain I put him through to help me accomplish my goals. “I don’t need any more scars. But they’re worth seeing you and Haru smile every day.”
Louis’s shaken exterior gave way to genuine contentment and we embraced, reforging the bond we built over two years of destiny. My most valuable friend had returned to my life and I never wanted him to let go, for both his sake and mine.
A throat clearing brought us back to reality. My ear flicked and I turned toward the sound to find the other herbivore I would lay down my life for. My girlfriend.
“Pretty emotional for a furniture-building party,” said Haru, standing in the doorway.
I ran over and crouched down to her. “Y-you made it!”
“Of course! I didn’t need to study as much as I thought. It’s a special day.”
I kissed her, and ushered her inside.
“Thanks, Louis,” she said, hugging him.
Louis nodded. “Anything for you both, and I mean that.”
“With you two here, it really feels like home now,” I declared, and I meant it too. I pulled them both into another hug and our tails wagged furiously.
+++
We were all seated on the floor, building my new entertainment center. Louis decided I needed a TV so he obliged by buying it along with the furniture for it. I insisted on buying the barstools.
“You really could throw a party here with all this space,” said Haru, handing me an Allen wrench.
“I’m not the best at parties,” I said, taking the wrench and screwing in a shelf. “The last party I went to, the music was too loud, I couldn’t recognize anyone in their beast masks, and a lady came onto me and grabbed my crotch.”
Louis stopped his unpacking and looked toward me with shock. “Isn’t that also when Melon shot you?!” he exclaimed.
I thought for a moment, then nodded. “Oh yeah, I forgot about that.”
Haru’s gentle features grew concerned. “And you’re more concerned that you were groped by a stranger?”
I shrugged. “Certified 18-year-old moment.”

5 Small Kitchen Organization Ideas on a Budget
Tumblr media
Small kitchens can feel like a never-ending puzzle. Between pots, pans, utensils, spices, and appliances, it doesn’t take much for things to look cluttered and chaotic. But the good news? You don’t need a massive budget or a full renovation to make a small kitchen functional and stylish. With a few clever tricks and budget-friendly solutions, you can maximize every inch of space and bring order to your culinary corner. In this post, we’ll explore practical, affordable, and creative small kitchen organization ideas that won’t break the bank — and might even make you love your kitchen a little more.
Tumblr media
Use Vertical Space Like a Pro
When floor and counter space is limited, look up. The walls of your kitchen hold massive untapped potential. Install floating shelves above your stove or sink to store dishes, mugs, or jars. Hang a pegboard to organize frequently used tools like spatulas, whisks, and measuring cups. Add magnetic strips on the wall to hold knives, spice jars, or even metal utensils. This not only frees up drawers and cabinets but also adds a cozy, curated feel to your kitchen.
Tumblr media
Drawer Dividers: Small Cost, Big Impact
Ever opened a kitchen drawer only to be greeted by a mess of tangled utensils? Drawer dividers are an inexpensive way to give every item a home. Use adjustable dividers or bamboo trays to sort cutlery, gadgets, or even spices. DIY option: repurpose small boxes (shoebox lids, empty food containers) to create your own custom compartments. A tidy drawer saves time, reduces stress, and honestly just feels good.
Think Multipurpose Everything
When space is tight, every item in your kitchen should work overtime. Rolling carts can act as portable pantries, prep stations, or even coffee bars. A cutting board that fits over the sink instantly adds counter space when you need it most. Invest in stackable containers and nesting bowls to minimize storage space. Choose items that fold, stack, or serve multiple functions to streamline your space without sacrificing style.
Tumblr media
Make the Most of Cabinet Doors
Your cabinet doors aren’t just for opening and closing — they’re valuable real estate. Attach adhesive hooks to hang oven mitts, measuring spoons, or cleaning cloths. Mount a slim rack inside for storing lids, plastic wrap, or spices. Consider using chalkboard paint on the inside of one door for a quick notes or grocery list spot. These small touches can make a surprisingly big difference in your kitchen flow.
Embrace Clear Storage Containers
There’s a reason professional organizers love clear bins and jars: they keep things tidy and visible. Store dry goods like rice, pasta, flour, and snacks in labeled glass or plastic containers. Use clear bins in the fridge to group similar items (e.g., breakfast foods, sauces, meal prep). Keep a rotating "use me first" basket to avoid food waste. This approach not only looks neat but also helps you quickly find what you need — and use what you already have.
Hooks, Hooks Everywhere
When in doubt, hang it up. Install a rail with hooks under your upper cabinets for mugs or utensils. Use adhesive hooks inside cabinets or on walls for oven mitts, potholders, or strainers. Add command hooks to the side of your fridge or cabinets to hang grocery bags or towels. It’s a simple and renter-friendly way to add instant storage.
Declutter Ruthlessly
This one doesn’t cost a dime — and might even help you make a few bucks. Take stock of what you actually use. If you haven’t touched that avocado slicer in a year, it’s time to let it go. Donate or sell items you no longer need. Organize what remains in a way that makes sense for your cooking habits. A small kitchen is easier to manage when it's filled only with things you actually love and use.

Budget-Friendly Catering Equipment: How to Get Quality Without Overspending
Tumblr media
Starting or expanding a catering business requires investing in the right equipment. However, high-quality catering tools and appliances can be expensive, making it challenging for small businesses to manage costs. The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get durable and efficient catering equipment. With smart planning and strategic purchasing, you can equip your kitchen with everything you need while staying within budget. Here’s how to get quality catering equipment without overspending.
1. Prioritize Essential Equipment
When working with a limited budget, focus on the equipment you absolutely need. Avoid unnecessary purchases and invest in items that will be used frequently. Essential catering equipment includes:
Cooking appliances – Ovens, stoves, and grills
Food storage – Refrigerators, freezers, and shelving units
Serving tools – Chafing dishes, trays, and utensils
Transport equipment – Insulated food carriers and carts
Make a list of must-have items based on your menu and business model. By prioritizing necessities, you can allocate your budget more effectively.
2. Buy Used or Refurbished Equipment
Purchasing second-hand catering equipment is one of the best ways to save money without sacrificing quality. Many restaurants and catering businesses sell their equipment when upgrading or closing down. You can find great deals on:
Commercial ovens and stoves
Refrigerators and freezers
Food warmers and prep tables
Look for reliable suppliers, check online marketplaces, or visit restaurant auctions to find used equipment in good condition. Always inspect the item thoroughly and ask about its maintenance history before making a purchase.
3. Consider Leasing Equipment
If buying brand-new equipment is too expensive, leasing can be a cost-effective alternative. Many catering equipment providers offer rental or lease-to-own options, allowing you to access high-quality appliances without a large upfront investment. Leasing is especially beneficial for:
Short-term catering events
Testing new equipment before committing to a purchase
Reducing maintenance and repair costs (as some leases include servicing)
While leasing may involve monthly payments, it provides flexibility and helps preserve capital for other business needs.
4. Look for Discounted and Clearance Sales
Many restaurant supply stores and online retailers offer discounts, seasonal sales, and clearance deals on catering equipment. Keep an eye out for:
End-of-year clearance sales
Discounts on floor models or slightly dented items
Bundled deals on kitchen essentials
Signing up for newsletters or following catering equipment suppliers on social media can help you stay informed about upcoming sales and promotions.
5. Opt for Multi-Purpose Equipment
Investing in versatile equipment can help you save money and space. Instead of buying multiple specialized tools, choose items that can perform various functions, such as:
Combi ovens – Can bake, steam, and roast food
Food processors – Chop, grind, and puree ingredients
Induction cooktops – Allow for portable and energy-efficient cooking
By selecting multi-functional appliances, you can reduce the number of items needed while increasing efficiency in your catering operations.
6. Compare Brands and Read Reviews
Not all catering equipment brands are created equal. Some affordable brands offer excellent durability and performance, while others may not last long. Before making a purchase, research different brands, compare prices, and read customer reviews. Reliable sources for reviews include:
Online restaurant forums
Catering business groups
Product reviews on e-commerce websites
Investing in well-reviewed, cost-effective brands ensures you get value for your money.
7. Buy in Bulk for Small Items
For disposable and frequently used supplies like plates, cutlery, napkins, and serving trays, buying in bulk can lead to significant savings. Many restaurant supply stores and wholesalers offer discounts on bulk purchases. Consider partnering with other caterers or local businesses to make joint purchases and get better deals.
8. Maintain and Extend Equipment Life
Proper maintenance can extend the lifespan of your catering equipment, reducing the need for costly replacements. Follow these tips to keep your equipment in good condition:
Regularly clean and service appliances
Follow manufacturer guidelines for maintenance
Store equipment properly to prevent damage
Preventive maintenance not only saves money but also ensures that your kitchen runs smoothly without unexpected breakdowns.
9. Consider DIY and Affordable Alternatives
Sometimes, you can find creative solutions to reduce costs. Instead of buying expensive décor or display pieces, consider DIY options or repurposing existing items. For example:
Use wooden crates as food display stands
Repurpose mason jars for beverage service
Make homemade serving trays from budget-friendly materials
A little creativity can go a long way in keeping costs low while maintaining a professional appearance.
10. Network with Other Caterers and Suppliers
Building relationships with other caterers, restaurant owners, and suppliers can help you access exclusive deals and second-hand equipment at lower prices. Joining catering associations or attending industry events can open doors to valuable connections and cost-saving opportunities.
Running a catering business on a budget doesn’t mean compromising on quality. By prioritizing essential equipment, exploring second-hand options, leasing when necessary, and maintaining your tools properly, you can get high-quality catering equipment without overspending. With smart purchasing decisions and strategic planning, you can build a well-equipped kitchen that meets your business needs while keeping costs under control.

What's the Smallest a Kitchen Can Be?
Vero Outdoor Living's Complete Guide to Small Modern Outdoor Kitchens
No matter how little, a well-designed outdoor kitchen makes your backyard a useful and fashionable place. You may design a small but effective cooking space that improves your outdoor living experience even with little room. This tutorial will go over the smallest size a kitchen can be, creative modern outdoor kitchen ideas, and useful suggestions for planning a small outdoor kitchen that best maximizes style and utility.
Tumblr media
What's the Smallest a Kitchen Can Be?
Layout and utility define the smallest possible size of a kitchen. Generally speaking, the smallest useful kitchen is around five feet broad and three feet deep, sufficient enough for a little grill or cooktop, a compact counter, and some storage. Given a modest outdoor kitchen, space-saving elements must be given first priority. Foldable counters, wall-mounted storage, and multifarious equipment can make a small area quite efficient.
Modern Outdoor Kitchen Ideas for Small Spaces
You may still design a contemporary and sophisticated outdoor kitchen even if your outside area is small. These contemporary outdoor kitchen designs will enable you to maximize your backyard:
1. Tight Plans
Maximizing space in an outdoor kitchen means having a straight countertop against a wall or fence.
An L-shaped plan offers extra prep room and fits into a corner.
For individuals who require flexibility, a portable outdoor kitchen cart is a perfect choice.
2. Saving Space: Appliances
Select built-in grills to free counter area.
Without occupying much space, a tiny refrigerator can keep drinks and supplies cold.
Combining appliances with a side burner or a pizza oven with a storage drawer gives multipurpose use. One such appliance is a grill.
3. Intelligent Storage Options
Put floating shelves between tools, cookware, and spices.
Extra storage can come from under-counter cabinets or drawers.
Stow grilling tools and accessories on pegboards or hanging hooks.
4. Foldable, moveable furniture
Easy storage of foldable tables and chairs when not in use is made possible.
Extra versatility comes from movable prep stations with wheels.
Stackable stools when needed provide seating and save space.
5. Illumination and Ambiance
Under worktops or cabinets, LED strip lighting improves night vision.
Without additional wire, solar-powered string lights provide a nice touch.
The area is useable all year round with a little fire pit or outdoor heater.
Designing a Functional Small Outdoor Kitchen
A compact outdoor kitchen should be planned with consideration for the golden triangle rule, a design concept that arranges the cooking area, prep space, and storage in simple reach. These are some basic design components:
Durable Objects: Use treated wood, stone, or stainless steel—weather-resistant materials—to guarantee lifetime.
If your outside kitchen is half enclosed, make sure there is enough airflow to stop smoke accumulation.
Install an outside umbrella, awning, or pergola to guard from sun and rain.
Effective Counter area: With careful design, even a 2-3 foot counter area can be sufficient for meal prep.
