"As solar panels heat up beyond 25°C, their efficiency decreases markedly. Green roofs moderate rooftop temperatures. So we wanted to find out: could green roofs help with the problem of heat reducing the output of solar panels?
Our research compared a “biosolar” green roof — one that combines a solar system with a green roof — and a comparable conventional roof with an equivalent solar system. We measured the impacts on biodiversity and solar output, as well as how the plants coped with having panels installed above them.
The green roof supported much more biodiversity, as one might expect. By reducing average maximum temperatures by about 8°C, it increased solar generation by as much as 107% during peak periods. And while some plant species outperformed others, the vegetation flourished.
These results show we don’t have to choose between a green roof or a solar roof: we can combine the two and reap double the rewards...
How did the panels affect the plants?
In the open areas, we observed minimal changes in the vegetation cover over the study period compared to the initial planted community.
Plant growth was fastest and healthiest in the areas immediately around the solar panels. Several species doubled in coverage. We selected fast-growing vegetation for this section to achieve full coverage of the green roof beds as soon as possible.
The vegetation changed the most in the areas directly below and surrounding the solar panels. The Baby Sun Rose, Aptenia cordifolia, emerged as the dominant plant. It occupied most of the space beneath and surrounding the solar panels, despite having been planted in relatively low densities.
This was surprising: it was not expected the plants would prefer the shaded areas under the panels to the open areas. This shows that shading by solar panels will not prevent the growth of full and healthy roof gardens.
What were the biodiversity impacts?
We used environmental DNA (eDNA) surveys to compare biodiversity on the green roof and conventional roof. Water run-off samples were collected from both roofs and processed on site using portable citizen scientist eDNA sampling equipment to detect traces of DNA shed by the species on the roof.
The eDNA surveys detected a diverse range of species. These included some species (such as algae and fungi) that are not easily detected using other survey methods. The results confirmed the presence of bird species recorded by the cameras but also showed other visiting bird species went undetected by the cameras.
Overall, the green roof supported four times as many species of birds, over seven times as many arthropods such as insects, spiders and millipedes, and twice as many snail and slug species as the conventional roof. There was many times the diversity of microorganisms such as algae and fungi.
Encouragingly, the green roof attracted species unexpected in the city. They included blue-banded bees (Amegilla cingulata) and metallic shield bugs (Scutiphora pedicellata).
How did the green roof alter temperatures?
The green roof reduced surface temperatures by up to 9.63°C for the solar panels and 6.93°C for the roof surfaces. An 8°C reduction in average peak temperature on the green roof would result in substantial heating and cooling energy savings inside the building.
This lowering of temperatures increased the maximum output of the solar panels by 21-107%, depending on the month. Performance modelling indicates an extensive green roof in central Sydney can, on average, produce 4.5% more electricity at any given light level.
These results show we don’t have to choose between a green roof or a solar roof. We can combine them to take advantage of the many benefits of biosolar green roofs.
Biosolar roofs can help get cities to net zero
The next step is to design green roofs and their plantings specifically to enhance biodiversity. Green roofs and other green infrastructure may alter urban wildlife’s activities and could eventually attract non-urban species.
Our green roof also decreased stormwater runoff, removed a range of run-off pollutants and insulated the building from extremes of temperature. A relatively inexpensive system provides all of these services with moderate maintenance and, best of all, zero energy inputs.
Clearly, biosolar green roofs could make major contributions to net-zero cities. And all that’s needed is space that currently has no other use."

Good Neighbors | part four
König x Reader
part one part two part three
CW: reader has feminine pronouns, not edited
note: sorry this was so short, was kind of hitting a block so I just wanted to write and see where it goes, this week has been a bit tough with family so just wanted to write to write and tried not to put too much pressure on myself with this
64.media.tumblr.com
You couldn’t help the groan that left your lips as you stretched out in your bed the next morning. The thumping behind your eyes was prominent, and you just knew you were experiencing a hangover from last night’s drinking. You didn’t plan on drinking so much the night before, but red wine catches up on you quickly, especially when you weren’t the one pouring your own glasses. You even knew going to bed last night that you should’ve drank some more water before going to bed but you were just so sleepy.
Finally convincing yourself to get up, you roll to your side and scooch out of bed. Carefully you step down the stairs, trying your best to not wake your grandmother up. Making your way to the kitchen, you quickly gulped down a glass of water and an acetaminophen.
You already knew what you were getting yourself into today, your uncle had asked, well more like voluntoldyou to set up the metal wheelchair ramp he had bought off of one of his buddies. He told you it was easy enough, one of those portable aluminum and steel ones that you just had to make sure was correctly docked to the front porch and everything will be easy. You appreciated his confidence in you, but you would be more confident in yourself if you didn’t have this hangover to deal with.
Your uncle had told you that he left the pieces to the ramp just inside the shed in Carol’s backyard, and when you casually tried to ask why he didn’t just set it up himself since he’s the one who insisted on buying it for her, you were told he didn’t have the time. Funnily enough, most of your family members seemed to have the same answer any time you would ask them about visiting your grandmother or helping with projects around the house.
You didn’t have the heart to tell your grandmother that you tried to corral some of your local family members to stop by the house sometime soon, not even to have them help with a project, you just wanted them to see Carol but the most positive answers you received were wishy washy we’ll see’s.
Part of you still hopes that working on these projects, updating the house, and making the home more usable and accessible will encourage more family members to stop by and see this as the family home again, just like your childhood. But the other part of your brain knows that that the dream is just that at this point.
Prying open the creaky shed door, you’re met with the pile on metal planks and railing pieces are all stacked in pile just inside the doorway, just like your uncle said. Huffing, you start to move the pieces into the small garden cart you were able to pull out from underneath your grandmother’s back deck. Once the cart was sufficiently full, pulling the cart to front the yard, careful not to slip in the small patches of mud in the front. Thankfully it only took a few trips to get all of the pieces up to the front yard, but even now looking at the pile in front of you, you felt a bit in over your head.
You don’t even realize how long you’ve been staring at this pile of planks, trying to figure out where to even start, let alone make your game plan on how to handle these, before hearing some shuffling of footsteps in the leaves behind you. Looking over your shoulder, you catch König walking up to you, and he stops casually next to you, without much of a greeting.
“What’s this?” He asks while nodding over to the pile in front of the two of you.
“Wheelchair ramp”
“For Carol?”
“Mhm, one of my uncles bought it for her, doesn’t want her doing as many stairs. Doctor’s been trying to convince her to use a walker when leaving the house apparently, and my uncle hopes this’ll convince her to.”
“You’re the one installing it?” You chose not to acknowledge the slight tonal change in König’s usually level tone and from the corner of your eye you could see him giving you a look, but again you chose to ignore it.
“Well, that’s the plan at least” you say bending down to mess with the looser pieces in the pile, picking up the bag of bolts and screws from the ground. “Can’t be that hard.” This time when you heard a small huff of laughter from König, you whipped your face to the side to give him a what? look.
“Give me a second.” König said casually with a turn before jogging off to his own backyard. Within a minute or two, he was jogging back to you with a bag of tools in hand. He let out a quiet let me see these, before softly grabbing the bag of bolts and directions from your hands, and just like that, started working through the pile of planks and lining them up in order, while pulling the planks with his right arm, the directions in his left.
You just quietly filed behind him, grabbing the tools he asked for and bringing them back to the bag once he was sufficiently done with them. Sometimes he would ask you for your thoughts, having you lean down next to him, double checking that the support beams looked correct to you. You didn’t really know what a correct support beams looked like, but if you had to guess, you would say it should look like this. But König still waited for your response each time he asked your thoughts on the process.
“Alright, I need you to do something for me” König finally looks up from the project and up to you, pausing before he continues, and you nod excitedly waiting for his directions. “I’m going to hold this plank in place, I’ve already drilled the pilot holes, but I need you to screw the bolts into them with the nuts, yeah?” You nod and he continues “there’s a socket wrench in the bag, grab that.”
From there, you follow König’s directions on picking the right size of the socket wrench to the most efficient way to get the bolt in without hurting your wrist. You have used a socket wrench once or twice in the past, but still you appreciated his guidance. He really had made you feel like an equal in this project, even if you weren’t carrying your equal part in this project.
Once you felt the bolts were successfully tightened into spots, you straightened your back and looked down between him and the bolts, “good?”
König took the socket wrench from and did a quick wench on each of the bolts, “good.” He sat back on his legs, letting out a huff, and gazing over the completed ramp. “It’s complete, but we’ll have to fix the railing.” He says reaching up and patting the bottom half of the railing on the porch that was still sitting in front on the entrance to the competed ramp.
“You two have worked hard enough this morning, you can fix the railing after lunch.” Carol says from the front door, you didn’t even realize she had been standing there watching, or just how long the two of you had been at this project. The soft morning sun had already shifted to a blaze straight above your head, and you hadn’t even noticed, too caught up in the project.
“It’s easy enough Carol, just give me-“
“No, come on you two, you need to eat and drink something, can’t have the two of you getting sick.” Carol cut off König, and with a smile she turned back into the house and out of sight. With that, you knew she expected you two to follow.
“Come on, no sense on fighting her on this” you gave König a soft smile and laugh, before reaching your hand out to help him up off the ground. He took it, his hand dwarfing yours and the callouses on fingers grazing your softer hands, and stood. Even with your offer to help him up and his palm on yours, he didn’t actually apply any of his weight on your grasp.
Once up he brushed his hands off on his pants and attempted a soft smile, “after you” he said with a nod and followed you up the steps into house. The clattering the pans gave you pause, as you knew her talent for cooking had unfortunately dropped these past couple of years, and you let out a soft oh god, before you hurrying your steps into the kitchen. “oh geez Grandma, please just let me cook lunch.”

Just stumbled today in a video about the "Atomic boy scout", that is the guy barely out of the scouts that built a subcritical nuclear reactor in his mom's garden shed, and thought half the people who know Mei and heard that story feared she'd try it if given the chance.
As for her, she heard the story and always thought the guy was an idiot doing that without proper safety equipment you just can't procure or improvise like that. That and nuclear fission is long outdated, she'll try a portable fusion reactor once she has the resources and proper expertise thank you very much.
Sounds like Hatsume

Bushfire / Wildfire preparation and survival (long post)
Because of climate change, we will be facing increasingly difficult fire seasons not just for this year, but for what I can only assume will be every year from here on out. While I fully recommend contacting your local fire services to find information most helpful to you, here is a list of general advice for bush/wildfire preparation and survival. This list will cover:
General things you should know before preparing for fire season
Pre fire season preparation
Your evacuation kit
What to do on fire risk days
What to do if you choose to evacuate
What to do when you evacuate too late and your car is about to be caught in the fire
What to do if you choose to stay and defend your home
Firefighting tools
How to defend your home from a fire
What to do as the fire front approaches
What to do if your home catches on fire while you're in it
No house no car no evacuation centre- best places to use as emergency shelter
I am Australian so I will be using the word "bushfire" because that is what I am familiar with, please feel free to replace it with wildfire or whatever your local term is. Information is taken from the CFA, Fire TAS, and the NSW rural fire service but please check with your local fire authorities for the best information for your area.
General things that you should know:
You don't have to be in the middle of nowhere to be at risk for a fire. If you are located near paddocks, grasslands, costal scrub, or if your neighbourhood borders bushland (or woodlands/forests for my non aussie friends) you can be at risk.
Familiarise yourself with your local fire danger rating system (FDRS) I can not stress this enough. Go on your local fire services website now and look it up. I will be using the Australian FDRS as a reference because it is what I am most familiar with. It looks like this:
You should understand what your local FDRS levels are, because they are extremely important tool for communicating the possible severity of fires, and can help you make important decisions on how you should act.
You should also familiarise yourself with your local wind patterns. You would be surprised by how many people die in bushfires because they are unfamiliar with wind change patterns and get caught out.
Pre fire season preparation- your house
Prepare your property! This is basic fire safety, and most people who live rural will be familiar with the motions but for those who aren't in the know:
Keep the grass in your lawn cut to 10cm (4in) or less. Rake your lawn so there aren't loose leaves or twigs in the grass. Clean your gutters while you're at it.
Store any wood piles and flammable liquids away from your house (put it in a shed or any building that isn't attached to your house).
Cut back any trees that are overhanging your roofs. Generally you want 10m (or 33ft) of clearance. Prune the lower branches of shrubs to separate them from any possible fuel underneath them.
Line your garden beds with pebbles instead of mulch, if you have any shrubs or bushes under windows get rid of them.
Evacuation kit
You should have an evacuation kit ready to go during fire season. This is different for every individual but here are a few things that should go into it:
Scan all of your important documents (birth certificates, wills, passports, drivers licences, insurance documents, etc) and put them on a USB. Put this in your kit alongside the documents.
Your medication. Your prescription paperwork if it is not digital.
Portable chargers for your devices.
A battery-operated radio (check the batteries regularly).
100% wool blankets. Enough for everybody in your household to be fully covered. Do not pack anything synthetic. These blankets need to be accessible if you are travelling by car so do not pack them in the bottom of any bags.
"Bushfire fits", clothing that is either wool, heavy cotton, or denim. Once again, no synthetic fabrics. Shoes should be leather boots and not sandals or runners. There needs to be enough to clothe everyone in your household.
If you have pets you need to have their carriers, medication, food/water and bowls ready.
You should also have food and (more importantly) water for yourself and everyone in your household ready to go should you need to evacuate.
Other pre fire season preparation things
Practice packing your car at least once so you know exactly how long it will take you to get ready if you do end up needing to leave.
Talk with your neighbours. If you can't drive they might be able to drive you, if they're staying they may be willing to help defend your house if you let them use your water. You'll never know if you don't ask.
You need to talk with the people in your household and decide whether you will stay to defend your home from the fire or evacuate. If you want to evacuate you need to agree on which FDRS danger level you will evacuate on, or what your trigger to leave will be.
If you will leave, decide ahead of time how you will leave and where you will go. In a fire, phone services ay go down; have a physical map that shows not only your main evacuation route, but also your backup ones. Have these clearly marked.
On fire risk days
Stay informed. Listen to your local radio and use more than one source of information if available. You want to know if a fire starts near you.
If you have a deck or verandah with mats or furniture on it, move them away from your house. Hanging pots need to go too.
If you have a car behind an electric gate or garage door take it out and have the car facing the road ready to go.
Ensure your evacuation kit is ready to go. Make sure that everyone is aware of the evacuation trigger and has agreed to leave.
If you choose to evacuate
Leaving early is always the safest option. Many things can be replaced, but your life can't. This is the official stance of the Australian government. Leaving early (as in, before the fire even starts) will prevent any issues being caught in your car during a bushfire can bring. You do not want to drive through heavy smoke, and you do not want to accidentally block roads for emergency services.
Make sure everybody is in their bushfire fits, even if you can't see the fire. Better safe than sorry.
Turn off your home's gas and (if you have the time) plug your downpipes and fill your gutters partially with water.
Close and lock all of your doors and windows.
Leave your front gate open.
Tell somebody that you are leaving, and where you are leaving to.
Late evacuation- my car is about to be hit by fire
If you evacuate late there is a chance you may find that you are unable to drive safely due to smoke or flames. It is considered extremely dangerous to shelter in a car, however you can do the following to increase your chances of survival:
Do not park on a road. Emergency service workers do not need to be dealing with car crashes as well as the fires.
Park your car away from dense bushland, preferably in a clear area. If you can find a rock wall to buffer some of the radiant heat even better. Face your car towards the oncoming fire.
Stay in the car, close all windows and doors. Shut all vents and turn off your engine.
Cover yourself with the wool blankets from your evacuation kit. sit or lie down below window level. Drink water.
Once the fire has passed, get out of the car and move to burnt ground.
If you choose to stay
The best way to prepare to stay for a bushfire is to have an action plan that you have both written down and practiced with your household. During a bushfire there is a high likelihood of service disruption both during and after a fire, so do not expect for there to be phone service, internet access, electricity, or water. You should expect:
Embers and spot fires which will move ahead of the main fire. Embers can also land for hours after a fire has passed. Embers are the number one cause of house fires when there is a bushfire.
Darkness. You will never truly understand how dark it can get in a bushfire until you are in it. It's darker than midnight.
Smoke will also make the air difficult to breathe. Invest in good face masks.
Local roads can be blocked from fallen trees or power lines, burnt out cars, dead animals, or emergency service vehicles.
Radiant heat. This is the biggest killer of bushfires. There is very little way around this. Long term radiant heat exposure will kill you long before the main bushfire gets to you. You can block radiant heat with solid walls (such as brick or concrete). Stay away from windows.
Your weapons in the fight against fire
You will need at a bare minimum 10,000 litres (2200 gallons) of water to defend your home. Have a petrol/diesel pump ready to use close by your water source.
In Australia you can find specialty firefighting hoses. Check your local availabilities, but you can still use a gardening hose in a pinch (be aware that plastic will melt once it gets too hot, get ones with metal fittings). Any hose you use should be able to reach all the way around your house.
Sprinklers. Ensure any plastic hoses connected to them are buried so they don't melt.
Buckets. And mops. Yes, you can whack an ember to death.
Metal rakes and shovels which will help break up burning materials.
Metal ladders so you can reach your roof.
Defending your home
If you are planning on staying to defend your home there needs to be at lease two fit adults. They both need to be physically and mentally willing to work for several hours in difficult and distressing conditions.
Everyone who stays also needs to be aware that there is a chance of dying. Survival is not guaranteed if you stay to protect your home.
Make sure you are all wearing appropriate clothing. Put on your bushfire fit. Wear eye protection and face masks to block out smoke. As funny as the picture of the bloke in his shirt and thongs standing on his roof with a hose is, it is a monumentally dangerous move.
Turn off your gas supply, air conditioners, and close all of your windows and doors facing outside.
Block your downpipes and fill your gutters with water, put wet wool blankets (or cotton towels) inside of windows and as door stops.
Check that pets are safely contained, and your car is ready to go in case of a late evacuation.
When embers appear, turn on your sprinklers.
You will need to patrol for embers, and put out any spot fires which occur. As embers float through the air, you will also need to check your roof as your home can easily be set alight from roof embers.
You will be patrolling for embers for several hours, as they can show up before, during, and after the fire front has passed.
Keep hydrated, even if you don't feel like drinking.
As the fire front approaches
You will begin to feel the radiant heat. Remember- you will need to protect yourself from this. Once the heat outside is unbearable you must retreat indoors or you will die.
Hose down any decks and/or garden beds connected to your house.
Collect your fire fighting equipment and bring them indoors. Anything plastic will melt. There are specialty fittings that will let you attach your fire fighting gear to washing machine taps to make it easier to fight fires inside your house.
Stay hydrated. Drink water, and splash your face with water to cool down.
If you are caught in your home during a bushfire
You will still need to patrol inside your home to check for embers starting fire. This includes going into your roof space, as embers enter most easily through the roof.
Make sure the room/s you are sheltering in have two exits- one to another room and one to outside your house. Keep all of the doors inside your house open.
Do not shelter in a room with frosted windows as you want to see what is going on outside.
If your house catches fire and it can't be put out
Close the door to any room that is on fire. Move away from the area/s on fire, keep low to avoid breathing in smoke. Close all doors behind you so you know not to turn back.
As soon as the main fire has passed your house get out! Please do not stay in your on fire house. Instead move to burnt ground.
Drink some water. The last thing you need is to be dehydrated.
Once the fire front has passed
Use your own judgement on whether the outside radiant heat is bearable. Remember, solid walls protect you from radiant heat, so it may be hotter outside your house. Once you can go outside, you are back on outdoor ember patrol.
Do not take your bushfire fit off. Yes, even if it is warm. You don't want bare skin in bushfire conditions.
Put out any fires that have started near or on your house.
Hose down the outside of your house, all of it including the roof and under the floorboards.
Call your friends and family. Let them know you are alive, and that the front has passed you.
Drink water. Do not die of dehydration or heat stroke now.
You will need to stay vigilant for several hours after the front has passed- embers can still start fires.
Places to shelter
If you are caught in the open with no options available to you, you can use these as a last resort shelter:
A stationary car in a clear area such as a bare field.
A ploughed paddock, field or park.
A body of water such as a river or dam.
Thats all I can think of right now. If anybody has any more information to add before this years fire season starts feel free.
#bushfires#wildfires#straya#australia#psa#I got this info for a class im teaching which is fun#oh fun fact: different Aussie state fire services have different opinions on whether or not to hose down your house#a story: ive always been scared of bushfires#when I was a toddler my parents were thinking of moving to the country but apparently I threw a massive fit#thinking we were going to die in a bushfire#they decided that I had a decent point so they didnt#anyway every property they looked at burnt down on black saturday so theres that

Joji was born in Busan, South Korea, and he was born... strange. At first, his parents didn't immediately sense anything off. Yeah, he seemed to be obsessed with putting their fingers in his mouth, but that was just a baby thing! And when his teeth came in, Joji tried to gnaw on anything he could, but especially people. Hands, arms, even his mother's earlobe! Again, they thought it was just a baby thing that he would grow out of.
When he was a toddler, he did the same with other children at his day-care, but it became a bit more aggressive as he aged. He'd literally bite them and hold on until they screamed and alerted the day-care staff. Even when they tried to get him off, he would put up a fight and remain latched on.
His parents didn't know what to do, but decided to set up an appointment with a child behaviour specialist. Unfortunately, even after many meetings and attempts to stop this concerning behavior, it began to escalate. Now a child of six, his mother would find him sitting on the kitchen floor, eating the raw meat from the fridge. He would also catch birds and animals when playing in the garden and hide them behind the shed. His father found him there, consuming the dead animals. This continued on despite them trying to discipline it out of him.
Completely freaked out by their son's behavior, they soon decided that enough was enough, and left him on the front step of a children's home with nothing but a small backpack of his belongings.
The children's home wasn't kind. The other kids were afraid of him because he often tried to chew their fingers or sniff them. The employees didn't know what to do, either, so often left him out of activities with the others. This meant that Joji spent a lot of time alone in the library. He read everything he could, teaching himself many topics, and even learned English to a fluent level. Of course, books couldn't replace his need for human connection, but he just couldn't fit in with the others no matter how much he tried.
As he grew older, Joji realized that his affliction was something that others didn't posess, so he tried to hide it. He ate like a normal person would, but didn't get much satisfaction from any meals. Slowly, over many years, a few of the others warmed to him enough to interact. Joji tried his best to keep up his act, but it wasn't to be. On his seventeenth birthday, he and another boy were alone in the grounds after sneaking out past lights out, and Joji couldn't fight it anymore. He lured the boy behind the equipment shed and attacked.
He ran away from the home that night with blood and flesh dripping from his mouth. Disgusted and ashamed, Joji traveled to Seoul using the little money he had previously stolen from one of the staff members. He dyed his hair blond just in case the police were after him (he couldn't be sure if he'd been reported or not) and spent the next few years just trying to survive.
He worked odd jobs, continued to steal (he had a knack for it), and sometimes resorted to sexual favors with strangers. He stayed in motels and goshiwons until he saved up enough to purchase a van. Van life seemed to be a somewhat popular way to live, so he imagined he'd get by fine.
Joji is now twenty-two and lives the vagabond lifestyle, traveling South Korea in search of something more. He still has his affliction and it gets hard to deal with when he hasn't consumed human meat in a while. It's a horrible addiction that he has to fulfil or he'll go insane. He has gotten good at luring men away by offering them certain acts (men are such predictable creatures) and then attacking them when they're in a secluded area. He then consumes them; sometimes raw, sometimes cooking them (even though he's not very good at cooking) and stores any excess in a portable freezer tucked in the corner of his van. It's easier to get away with murder when there's no body left to find at the scene. He also never stays too long in the same place and knows how to stay on the down-low, so he doesn't tend to attract any unwanted attention.
This video is the general layout of Joji's van just without the gaming setup. Instead, he has a small TV hung on the wall and the freezer beneath it.

Types of Scaffolding Equipment
Which is scaffolding? Scaffolds let workers reach high-up regions. Construction workers that need to reach higher elevations without cranes or forklifts use them. Painting, window washing, and other maintenance can be done on scaffolding. Why Should You Know Scaffolding? Scaffolding is essential whether you're building a 10-story luxury hotel or fixing your roof or structure. This manner, you may cover all bases and prevent injuries while working on your property's concrete or brick exterior walls or interior ceilings and flooring. 1. Permanent Scaffolding:- Permanent scaffolds are used for building, maintenance, and inspection. Safe and functional, they can also be attractive. 2. Applications for fixed scaffolding include: Construction scaffolds. These temporary constructions allow height access fast and easily. They are utilized for new buildings, refurbishments, and infrastructure projects like bridges and tunnels. 3. Scaffolds for maintenance. Building owners utilize maintenance scaffolds to maintain their buildings. They can be utilized by window cleaners and other professionals who need heights while working on buildings. 4. Inspection scaffolds. Engineers and inspectors can check structures without ladders or ropes using inspection scaffolds. Inspection scaffolds vary depending on its usage, but all have walkways so workers may move around safely without climbing steps or using ropes. 5. Mobile scaffolding
Mobile scaffolding is versatile for building jobs. Mobile scaffolds are composed of aluminum or steel and vary in size and shape. These constructions let workers climb without a fixed structure. Mobile scaffolds can be mounted to new builds or wheeled. They offer various advantages over other scaffolds, including:
Advantages of Mobile Scaffolds
Portable scaffolding makes it easier for personnel to move and set up on the job. Their quick set-up and take-down make them excellent for short-term assignments when you don't want to invest in permanent equipment you'll only use infrequently. Mobile scaffolds can be adjusted in numerous ways to meet project needs, making them more versatile than fixed or built-in scaffolding. Safety - Mobile scaffolds tend to be safer than typical scissor or ladder racks since they have fewer elements that could come apart or break off during usage. 7. Suspended Scaffold
Suspended scaffolding has two parallel rails anchored to the ground with horizontal planks between them. Many countries utilize it for scaffolding, especially for construction workers and other tradespeople who access building exteriors. 8. Suspended scaffolding can be utilized for both temporary and permanent installations. It can be utilized for modest operations like painting or building maintenance or larger ones like home or business construction or restoration. More complex constructions may require scaffolding with walkways or platforms at different heights. In addition to offering secure access to building exteriors, hanging scaffoldings allow window cleaners to clean windows without climbing inside them. 9. Swing stage scaffolding
Due to its adaptability and safety, industrial and commercial construction sites use swing stage scaffolding. Also called swing scaffolds, swing stages, and A-frames. Two upright posts connected by a beam or top rail support swing stage scaffolding. The stage can be folded against the support posts when not in use. When needed, the stage can be erected up quickly. 10. Swing stages are useful for temporary vertical access in numerous circumstances. They can help you attain height on construction sites or in your home or garden shed during repairs or upkeep. They could also be utilized during concerts or festivals when site access is restricted for safety. 11. Hanger Scaffolding
Hanging bracket scaffolding supports workers at heights. An alternative to suspended scaffolds is hanging bracket scaffolding. Hanging bracket scaffolding is mostly utilized to offer temporary construction working platforms. Building and other height-dependent businesses may employ this scaffolding. The ease of installation and removal from construction sites makes hanging bracket scaffold systems more popular than other movable scaffolds. The primary hanging bracket scaffolding parts are:
Each upright has C-clamps at the bottom. These clamps keep the upright from falling off the base or platform. Some manufacturers provide lightweight, robust plastic ones for all-day use. Uprights – C-clamped uprights are placed on top of the base or platform to prevent them from falling over when someone stands on them or utilizes them for stair assistance. Screwed-together uprights are common. 12. Solo Scaffolding
Single scaffolding is used for modest construction jobs. Residential and commercial structures can use it. Steel pipes are bolted or nutted together to make this scaffolding. Workers walk safely on wooden planks over steel tubes. The most frequent single scaffolding is straight leg. This scaffolding has no cross bracing between the legs, making it easier to remove. Small jobs with one support level employ single scaffoldings. They are suited for residential and commercial building jobs with limited scaffolding space. 13.Doppelscaffolding
Double scaffolding is a sort of scaffolding that is made up of two frames that are coupled together with the help of braces. Double scaffolding supports personnel, tools, and materials. This scaffolding is usually utilized in industry, however it can be used indoors and outdoors. Types of Double Scaffold
Today's double scaffolds come in many styles. Among them:
Single-sided double scaffold — Two frames on either side of a wall or other impediment link at their upper corners. This structure can only be used internally because the frames' bottom edges are blocked. Double-sided double scaffolds have frames on either side of a wall or other impediment with braces connecting their top corners. Because the frames are braced at the bottom and top, this scaffold can be utilized indoors and outdoors. Demolition scaffolding
Temporary scaffolding supports a structure during demolition. Deconstruction scaffolding can be built numerous ways. New or demolished materials can be used to build it. Demolition scaffolding is sometimes called wrecking scaffolding or demolition platform. Workers removing a building are protected from falling debris and dangerous structures by demolition scaffolding. It also shields nearby buildings from demolition harm. Demolition scaffolds use I-beams, channel sections, and angle iron. The platform might be built on the existing structure or another platform designed for this purpose. Steel joists and columns with adjustable feet are used to build demolition platforms so they can be positioned correctly and attached with bolts and nuts. How high the building needs to be disassembled and how much clearance is needed will determine the platform height. 14. Steel Scaffolding
Steel scaffolding is industrial scaffolding made from steel tubes and fittings. Construction and remodeling projects employ steel scaffolding for temporary work platforms. Single-sided and double-sided steel scaffolding are most popular. Short-term projects employ single-sided units, while permanent applications use double-sided units. Steel scaffolding comes in many lengths, heights, and widths for almost any use. The modular design lets you add or remove posts and cross members to tailor your unit. Steel is good for many uses due to its versatility:
Steel scaffold is utilized in construction because it can be erected quickly and easily without additional equipment. Because it only needs the tools and equipment found in scissor lifts and boom lifts, it's straightforward to move between sites. Maintenance — Maintenance workers have long utilized steel scaffold to securely and efficiently access rooftops and other hard-to-reach areas. 14. Trestle scaffolding
Trestle scaffolding supports the structure using legs. Each leg has holes on top and is bolted or welded. These holes connect the legs to form the trestle scaffold structure. Trestle scaffold frames are mainly steel or aluminum, but some are wooden. Metal trestles survive longer than wood and are more durable. Easy set-up and take-down are trestles' primary benefits. This makes them excellent for temporary jobs that require storage. If you need to move them regularly between sites or positions on site, they can be simply carried. 15. Patented Scaffold
The new revolutionary scaffolding system employs ordinary scaffolding material but adds security. This unique scaffolding system uses conventional tools to produce a safe workplace. Workers can erect and disassemble the revolutionary scaffolding system in minutes, not hours or days. Eliminating plywood and steel saves money. Scaffolding Patents Benefit
The scaffolding system is patented to make height-working safer. The device allows people to work legally while providing mobility and comfort. This reduces scaffolding falls, which can injure or kill workers. Besides safety, the unique scaffolding system simplifies your job! You can work instead of setting up your workspace. 16. Quickstage Scaffolding
Kwikstage scaffolding may be constructed in under 10 minutes for temporary access. Its lightweight, compact design makes it easy to travel and store and can be set up by one person. The Kwikstage scaffold comes in 6m–32m lengths and 1.5m–4.8m widths. Twist locking pins connect modular aluminium components in the Kwikstage scaffold for fast construction without tools or bolts. Tradespeople and DIYers can utilize the system because it comes with ladders, guard rails, and walkways for height safety. 17. Marine Scaffolding
Marine scaffolding is the most preferred for creating huge water-side constructions. Marine scaffolding is made for tough marine conditions. Marine scaffolding supports workers on water-side construction sites. This protects against falling objects and debris from above and slick surfaces from rain or waves. Bridge, pier, and dock building can use marine scaffoldings. 18. Home Extension Scaffolding
Extensions and renovations can increase house value but are dangerous. Check the insurance and license of any professional builder or contractor you engage. Your project may require planning authorization from your local government. If you're performing your own extension or renovation, prepare ahead and work safely. Ensuring your scaffolding satisfies health and safety requirements is crucial. This requires correct materials, design, access platforms, and guard rails. Building an addition or making structural alterations to your home requires safe work. This implies you must utilize scaffolding intended for safety. We make sturdy scaffolds that are lightweight enough for one person to carry. They are easier to transport and set up than two-person scaffolding. We employ scaffold equipment that meet all safety regulations after comprehensive testing by independent labs. 18. Aviary Scaffolding
Construction and mining employ birdcage scaffolding. It has steel wire ropes connecting horizontal and vertical poles. Birdcage scaffolding is often called chicken-wire scaffolding. Due to its ease of assembly and disassembly, birdcage scaffolding is mostly utilized for building maintenance and repair. It can be utilized on narrow surfaces where other scaffolding is difficult to setup.

One practical yet stylish solution that has gained popularity in recent years is the use of storage sheds in los angeles. These structures not only provide additional space for storage but can also enhance the aesthetic of your property. In this article, we will explore the various types of storage sheds available, their benefits, and how they can transform your home in Los Angeles.
Understanding the Need for Storage Sheds
As urban living spaces in Los Angeles become more compact, the demand for efficient storage solutions has skyrocketed. Many homeowners find themselves grappling with limited space, leading to cluttered homes and garages. Storage sheds present an ideal solution by offering a dedicated area for storing tools, outdoor equipment, seasonal decorations, and more. Furthermore, they contribute to better organization and accessibility, making it easier to find what you need when you need it.
Types of Storage Sheds
Wooden Storage Sheds
Wooden storage sheds are a classic choice for many homeowners. They blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings and can be customized to match the style of your home. Available in various designs, wooden sheds can be painted or stained to enhance their appearance. Additionally, wood is an excellent insulator, making these sheds suitable for storing delicate items that require protection from extreme temperatures.
Metal Storage Sheds
Metal storage sheds are known for their durability and strength. Constructed from galvanized steel or aluminum, these sheds are resistant to rust and corrosion, making them an excellent choice for the varying weather conditions in Los Angeles. They often come in neutral colors, allowing them to fit into any landscape without clashing with your home’s exterior. Metal sheds require less maintenance compared to wooden ones, making them a practical option for busy homeowners.
Vinyl Storage Sheds
Vinyl storage sheds are gaining popularity due to their low maintenance requirements and versatility. They are resistant to fading, peeling, and cracking, ensuring they maintain their appearance over time. These sheds come in various styles and colors, allowing homeowners to choose one that complements their property. Vinyl sheds are also easy to clean; a simple wash with soap and water can keep them looking new.
Garden Sheds
Garden sheds are specifically designed for gardening enthusiasts. These sheds are usually smaller and can be equipped with shelves, hooks, and potting benches. They provide a convenient space for storing gardening tools, pots, soil, and other supplies. In Los Angeles, where gardening is a beloved pastime, garden sheds offer both functionality and charm, often featuring window boxes or decorative elements that enhance their visual appeal.
Portable Storage Sheds
For those who prefer flexibility, portable storage sheds are an excellent choice. These structures can be moved as needed, making them ideal for renters or individuals who frequently change their living arrangements. Portable sheds come in various sizes and materials and can be easily assembled and disassembled. This mobility allows homeowners to adapt their storage solutions based on their current needs.
Benefits of Storage Sheds
Increased Storage Space
One of the most significant advantages of storage sheds is the added space they provide. With a dedicated area for tools, outdoor furniture, and seasonal items, homeowners can reclaim valuable space inside their homes. This additional storage can lead to a more organized and functional living environment.
Enhanced Property Value
A well-constructed and aesthetically pleasing storage shed can boost the overall value of your property. Potential buyers often appreciate the convenience of extra storage, making your home more attractive in a competitive real estate market. Investing in a quality shed can yield significant returns when it comes time to sell.
Versatile Usage
Storage sheds are not just for storing items; they can serve multiple purposes. Some homeowners convert their sheds into workshops, art studios, or even cozy reading nooks. This versatility makes them a valuable asset, allowing you to tailor the space to your specific needs.
Aesthetic Appeal
In addition to their functionality, storage sheds can enhance the visual appeal of your property. With various design options available, you can choose a shed that complements your home’s architecture. Features such as decorative shingles, window boxes, and vibrant colors can turn a simple storage solution into a charming focal point in your yard.
Increased Organization
Having a dedicated space for storage promotes better organization. You can categorize items, making it easier to locate what you need. This organized approach can help reduce stress and clutter in your home, creating a more serene living environment.
Choosing the Right Storage Shed
Assess Your Needs
Before purchasing a storage shed, it’s essential to assess your storage needs. Consider what items you plan to store and how much space you require. This assessment will help you choose the appropriate size and type of shed.
Consider Local Regulations
In Los Angeles, local zoning laws and building codes may dictate the size and type of shed you can construct. Before making a purchase, check with your local authorities to ensure compliance with regulations. This step can help you avoid potential fines or complications in the future.
Select the Right Location
The location of your storage shed is crucial. Consider factors such as sunlight exposure, accessibility, and proximity to your home. Placing your shed in a shaded area can protect it from the harsh California sun, while a convenient location ensures easy access to your stored items.
Think About Style and Design
Choose a shed that complements your home’s architectural style. Whether you prefer a modern look or a rustic charm, there are plenty of design options available. Customization can also enhance the shed’s aesthetic appeal, allowing you to incorporate unique features that reflect your personality.
Maintenance Tips for Storage Sheds
Regular Inspections
Perform regular inspections of your storage shed to identify any signs of wear and tear. Check for leaks, rust, or pest infestations, and address any issues promptly to extend the life of your shed.
Cleaning
Keep your shed clean and organized by regularly removing unnecessary items. A clean shed not only looks better but also helps prevent damage to your stored belongings. Sweep out debris and dust, and wash surfaces as needed.
Weatherproofing
In a climate like Los Angeles, weatherproofing your storage shed is essential. Ensure that the roof is in good condition, and apply a protective sealant to wooden sheds to prevent water damage. For metal sheds, consider applying rust-resistant paint to maintain their appearance and longevity.
Conclusion
Storage sheds are more than just functional structures; they are stylish additions that can enhance the overall appeal of your home in Los Angeles. With a variety of types available, from wooden and metal to vinyl and portable options, homeowners can find the perfect solution to meet their storage needs. The benefits of increased space, improved organization, and enhanced property value make storage sheds a worthwhile investment. By carefully considering your needs and maintaining your shed, you can enjoy a clutter-free and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space for years to come. Whether you are an avid gardener, a DIY enthusiast, or simply looking to declutter your home, a stylish storage shed is a solution that fits seamlessly into the Los Angeles lifestyle.

Part P Competent Person Scheme:
Part P is a voluntary scheme which was introduced in 2005 to establish which allows electrical contractors in England for self-certifying their compliance with Part P of the building rules and regulation in UK.
The Competency requirements for Part P scheme are assessed by electro technical assessment scheme (EAS). Mostly it covers all the installation work in home, workplaces and gardens. Under the part P scheme, registered electricians recommended by schemes such as NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, and many more. Enhancing Outdoor Spaces: Investing in Steel Picnic Tables and Foldable Table and Chairs
Outdoor furniture plays a crucial role in defining the aesthetic and functionality of your outdoor spaces. Whether it’s a backyard, park, or patio, selecting the right pieces can transform an ordinary area into a welcoming environment for family and friends. Among the popular choices, steel picnic tables and foldable table and chairs stand out for their durability, versatility, and convenience. This article explores the benefits of these two types of outdoor furniture, highlighting why they are worth the investment.
The Durability and Appeal of Steel Picnic Tables
Steel picnic tables are renowned for their robustness and longevity. Unlike wooden or plastic tables, steel tables can withstand harsh weather conditions, including rain, snow, and intense sunlight, without deteriorating. This makes them an ideal choice for public parks, schoolyards, and private gardens where long-term use is expected.
One of the significant advantages of steel picnic tables is their low maintenance. A simple wipe down is usually sufficient to keep them clean, and they do not require periodic staining or sealing like wooden tables. Moreover, their heavy weight discourages theft and ensures they remain stable, even during windy conditions. When considering the purchase of steel picnic tables, it’s important to evaluate the powder coating finish, which provides an additional layer of protection against rust and corrosion.
Versatility and Convenience with Foldable Table and Chairs
