It's black history month, so I'll draw one black Poptropica character each day.

Today is Marnie from Monster Carnival Island. And before you guys say anything, yes, I don't know 100% if she's black, but I drew her and I'm giving her attention either way 😂

Marnie is a mechanic who has things that the player needs to complete the island. She doesn't go to Ringmaster Raven's carnival because... she's afraid of carnivals (rightfully so in the context of the story...)

I had the sickest dream last night where it was basically an animated movie version of Monster Carnival Island. 

The characters were designed like normal people instead of Poptropicans. 

Marnie the mechanic was the main character. In the game, she refused to go to the carnival, but in the movie her friend dragged her into going, and she ran into Edgar.

Ringmaster Raven was revealed to be a villain early on unlike in the game, so there are some scenes of him plotting and generally being an a**hole throughout the film. But only when no one notices.

When Marnie was reading the newspapers, they showed the Ringmaster's backstory in a flashback. 

Edgar went through a character arc, and they showed his backstory too. There are some obvious parallels between his character and Raven's. 

Raven was emotionally and mentally abusive to Edgar throughout the film, but not in an in-your-face way. A more subtle way. 

The climax was nearly the same, except it ends with Edgar showing up in the Mirror Maze to help Marnie. The Ringmaster is about to straight up kill Marnie, but once he sees Edgar he tries to force Edgar to kill Marnie instead.

Edgar kills Raven instead, although he feels bad about it and cries :(

The movie ends with Marnie offering to adopt Edgar (even though she knows nothing about kids) but Edgar chooses to stay with the other carnies.
