Headcanon; Every August 31st, the entire staff of Hogwarts gathers at the Three Broomsticks for a night out before the school year starts the next day. Without fail, they always get entirely sloshed. Severus always makes sure to brew an extra large batch of hangover cure potion to sort everyone out the next day.

Minerva, Rolanda, Pomona, and Poppy all spend summer together living like coastal grandmothers in a very fancy villa that technically only one of them owns but they all own too

Okay fine Rolanda isn't coastal grandmother, she's coastal tomboy aunt who lives with her "dear friend" for years who she's obviously just friends with or at least she would if she wasnt one) first married to Quidditch two) asexual (she's an asexual lesbian don't tell me I'm wrong and she likes to flirt with all the three above but in an entirely platonic way

Also they bring Severus along and he's the coastal grandson who wears the clothes they bought him and has the most ridiculously huge stack of books and packs a book bag for the car ride (because Rolanda insists on driving them in her vintage roofless car for the vibes) with an autobiography, a novel in case the biography is too much, a collection of short stories if he runs out of patience to get to the good parts in the novel, and a book of essays when he wants something intellectual but doesnt want to read a whole book, and yes he insists he needs them all for the ride because anything could happen and it could take way longer than expected so he absolutely needs every single one of these books, and throughout the summer he's constantly just reading and yet somehow hia tbr doesn't get any shorter.

Minvember Day 1 - Self delusion

She hummed contently. She put the teapot down on the table, watched for a moment as the steam went up towards the ceiling and disappeared, then resumed her humming, a bit louder. She brought over a plate of biscuits, lemon-flavoured, then three tea cups. The chipped one she placed in front of her seat.

Then she took a step back, dusted her robes, picked a book, and sat comfortably.

And so she waited, humming still. The steam swirled and swirled over her head.

Slowly, the staff room's door opened. Minerva lifted her head: Pomona entered, followed closely by Poppy. The two women stopped, looking down at the table and then at their colleague.

"Good evening", Minerva greeted cheerfully, before returning to her book.

Pomona sighed. With caution, Poppy approached and sat in the armchair opposite to her, the one that had been, for many years, the preferred seat of the headmaster. Minerva made a slight movement of friendly protest.

"I know it is Friday night, Minerva", the nurse said apologetically. "I know Albus, Severus and yourself have tea every Friday night at 6. Is that right?"

Her colleague frowned. She put down her book, but did not reply.

"Minerva." Poppy spoke again, with more authority this time, and great softness. "Minerva. You know they are not coming back, right?"

Minerva blinked twice. Suddenly her gaze, which had wandered around the room with a dream-like air, became sharper, more cognisant; her book fell from her lap; she looked around her in utter dismay.

A strangled sound escaped her throat.

Could we hear about the gangs and the staff? Like McGonagall being everyone's mum (especially if it like clashes with her love for the marauders and her maternal instincts towards Sev)

I don’t think McGonagall was maternal towards Sev. And I don’t think Sev liked her at all. Quite the opposite actually. Unpopular opinion I guess, but I’ve mentioned it before,,, I just don’t see how they could have the sort of relationship usually shown in fanon when McGonagall was yet another adult in Sev’s life that failed him by allowing the bullies that she was in charge of as head of house to continuously torment him. Clearly whatever punishments she was in charge of were not harsh enough and the fact that they weren’t expelled after the prank (something I would imagine McGonagall had to weigh in on) just adds fuel to the fire,,,

I think McGonagall had an interesting relationship with the marauders, especially Sirius, but it was very much a love/hate relationship

I do like the idea of Remus being close with Madam Pomfrey due to how much time he spends in the hospital wing but for the love of god she does NOT take up Hope’s spot as a mother for Remus. She can be a motherly figure but ahhhhh let Remus have his actual mother!!! He doesn’t have her for all that long so just,,, let Hope be a mum

I don’t have,,,, tooo many thoughts on the gangs and the staff mostly cause I don’t have a tonne of thoughts on the staff in general? I’ve got a soft spot for Minnie/Poppy tho,,,,

I also think it’s so damn cute that we know Pomona Sprout and Filius Flitwick are exes cause like,,, that makes perfect sense in my head actually. I have a soft spot for both ngl.

I like to imagine Professor Flitwick welcomed Aurora to the staff with a bit of extra fondness when she started teaching at Hogwarts. Also,,,, Professor Flitwick having to deal with Barty is just,,, so good. I don’t think he would have been head of house for either of them based off of the information we have about him, but it’s still kind of fun to picture just in case he was

I think Slughorn is so interesting and people need to use him more,,,, like, watching how his relationship with his students changed after Tom, how he proudly collected the Knights of Walpurgis but how none/few of their children (if I remember correctly) end up in the Slug Club because (as we’ve seen with Draco) he takes a clear stance when it comes to families with Death Eater connections. Slughorn and his relationship with Lily while also having a relationship with Severus. Him constantly forgetting that the two don’t talk anymore during that first year after,,,,

If you wanna hear anything more specific lemme know, but just,,, generally speaking I don’t have a tonne of thoughts??

TTB Pride Fest: Sneak Peek

Lil Sapphic faculty action for @thethreebroomsticksficfest ,except hello, I am turanga, there's not all that much action.

A knock on the office door pulled her from her musings: Pomona, with an ample wicker basket set to her left side.  Poppy schooled her features to what she hoped was a look of warm unconcern and invited her in with a bright tone of voice.

��Good holiday?” Her social obligation, a checking of the vitals. Images came to Poppy unbidden: the whites of Pomona’s eyes and the pulse point of her wrist below the pushed-up sleeve.

Pomona answered softly, shifting the basket against her broad hip as she moved towards the counter on the other side of the room. “I missed you.”  

The quiet stretched between them then as Pomona began to reach into her basket.  Poppy, not watching, pulled out two chairs for them to sit before sighing and, at last, lowering herself into hers.

“You made it clear that you would be…occupied.” Another silence. “Were you? No, wait, you can’t say.” 

“Mostly in the greenhouses, like always, to be honest.  As I told them—as I told you —not every soldier needs to be on the front lines.” 

Poppy pursed her lips. “That’s a Muggle metaphor anyway. Hogwarts isn’t Bosnia.” 

“More’s the pity. That war’s over.” Pomona paused. “I’m sorry, I’m bringing it up again, aren’t I?” She reached into the basket again, withdrawing a muslin cloth wrapped around four sandwiches.  A mint-green pitcher followed, along with two cups.  “You don’t eat on the train and supper’s not for two more hours.”

Poppy rose from her chair, turning her attention to the first things Pomona had unloaded. Goldenrod, star grass, dittany—ingredients  for salves to make before the start of term. A coarse burlap sack was also set on the counter, plump with something she hadn’t requested. Poppy scrunched her nose against the acrid smell and inspected the plant within—flat leaves on reddish vines and tiny white flowers standing up like pins.

“What’s this one?”

“Knotweed. For swelling.”

Poppy pulled her mouth slightly to one side. “That’s not a proven remedy.” 

Pomona shrugged. “Wouldn’t hurt to add a bit.” Ice clattered in the cups as she poured from the pitcher. 

Poppy scrutinized the woman before her. “Pomona, what do you know?”

A Dilemma:

You know, when it came to Severus and Constance having been secretly married (and divorced) and having Nick Hobbes as their long-lost kid, I wanted Dumbledore, McGonagall, McGongall's late husband- Elphinstone, Poppy Pomfrey and Amelia Cackle to be in on the secret. But, with Sprout's actress-Miriam Margoyles narrating the "Worst Witch" audiobooks, I'm really tempted to add Sprout, and Flitwick to the group.

But would Snape be that close to Sprout and Flitwick to let them be on the secrets too? And then there's Miss. Bat; how could we leave her out :( ? But could she be trusted with the secrets?

Can you imagine little 21 year old Severus Snape as the youngest teacher?

It takes a bit to warm up to him, but soon, he's the surrogate son to everyone. They mother hen him and at first he's reticent but then he, at least in his mind, basks in it.

After all, the boy hasn't known as much kindness as this in his whole life.

He's healthier than ever, getting in the role of teaching, and becoming the powerful wizard he knew he could be.

Obviously it takes nearly 3 years to get Severus used to life as an adult with freedom, a consistent salary, and the station to actually have some appeal to the fairer sex.

Now all his new mums get an idea.

It becomes their mission to find him a woman.

Nieces, cousins, a friends' friends' kid are all introduced to Severus.

The failed meet cutes only result in more blind dates being set up for him.

It takes another 3 years for him to get up the courage to say no to McGonagall and Pomfrey and Sprout without feeling like he's disappointed them. He's 27 at this point and does well enough on his own when he wants to.

It isn't until he's 28 that they find out he's been keeping a 'girlfriend' from them. Of course he says she's simply a friend but that doesn't stop them from fussing over him every time he 'has plans'.

The intervention comes 6 months later when they realize it's not a "girlfriend" it's "girlfriends." But Severus is now confident and has fun making his surrogate parents squirm a little. Teach them to be so nosy.

But he still let's them fuss about him eating and his hair and his snarkiness. It makes them feel useful and poking fun at them is entertaining.

They notice a change when the Potter boy shows up. He's anxious and quicker to startle. The confident and self-assured young man they know is darker, more quiet.

It only gets worse as the years pass, as the war returns. Poppy keeps quiet as she patches him up. Minerva distracts him with competition and friendly rivalry. Pomona lets him roam the greenhouses when he can't sleep, and sometimes they garden together under the stars. She wonders why he isn't allowed peace. They all do.

At 38, Severus is Headmaster, and so far from the boy they once knew. They can't imagine that it's the same man but occasionally there are glimpses in his dark eyes, in his tired gait, in that final moment when Minerva allowed the anger and betrayal to course through her into her wand.

Minerva sees how he never fights back even though she knows he could have killed her, killed them all, at any point that year.

Pomona sees him for a moment during the battle. He sends a shield and smirks at her surprise and she knows her adopted son is in there.

Poppy let's her stoicism fall at the end of that fateful day. When his body is the last to arrive, escorted by Potter himself.

The childless mother's see him everywhere. In the students who come from broken homes, the ones who are smarter and reviled for it, and the ones who accept affection like it's a venomous snake.

He was so young when they met him and still so young when he left them.

Forever the youngest professor and Headmaster that Hogwarts would ever see.

Oh hey it ME and it is a thing i am proud of. Fandom is so wide and so wonderful and I love all the ways that we can make the blorbos fight and kiss. AND queer love and lady love and older people love seems to be a thing that is less widely celebrated in the harry potter universe, and i wrote this piece with that in mind.

It means the world to me, each time others join my celebration.

For @hprecfest - Day 9: A rare-pair fic

I have recommended Knotweed, by @turanga4 before, and I will likely recommend it again. The quiet delicacy of this piece is everything. It feels so soft and so real and leaves us hanging with that bit of uncertainty for the future, but also that bit of hope, all while set in a time when there was so little hope to be had. A story of young passionate love is all very good. But give me a love story with maturity, with gentleness, with subtlety… I’m melting.
