How do you think the characters coped during the quarentine?

ooh good question!

I think malcolm probably took it pretty hard, he was probably arguing with JT about how he WAS an essential worker and should be allowed to go work with the NYPD. but JT (since gil was still injured) was like we don't really need a profiler atm. but of course malcolm needs cases to distract himself so I think JT would compromise and send him files from cold cases he could look over and take notes on. I think malcolm would also pick up a bunch of hobbies then get kinda bored with them. also lots of zoom therapy and talking with the team.

we know jessica and ainsley quarantined together and I'll just say it's good that house is big bc otherwise they'd be stepping on each others toes 😭 jessica was kinda emo bc she couldn't see gil in person but wouldn't admit it and ainsley was like kinda thinking about everything since at that point she thought malcolm killed endicott and she didn't remember much. so both of them were stressed out and ended up arguing a bit about stupid stuff.

edrisa, dani, JT, still had to go in to work bc I imagine NYPD workers were considered essential, at least in their positions. so that was some added stress, especially for JT since Tally was pregnant and home while he had to run major crimes in gil's absence.

poor gil was trying to recover from being stabbed with the health care system in crisis. and he couldn't really see his team or malcolm much, maybe malcolm visited like once or twice but I imagine they'd want to be careful since gil was injured.

and we know martin was still in prison and apparently doing work there as a doctor to keep COVID from spreading through rikers??? so that's what he was focused on (not for any altruistic reasons, he wanted the power and control that came with the authority and feeling like he had influence over the prison and prisoners). also he was calling malcolm a lot and malcolm was trying to ignore those calls lol.

i'm kinda glad prodigal son didn't focus too much on the pandemic bc I think I was kinda tired of COVID storylines on tv at that point but the little bit of background we got on how they coped with quarantine was interesting!

OK Ainsley messing with Malcolm wasn't cool but she was just getting revenge for what Malcolm did to her and to show him how far it can actually go if he didn't come clean to her sooner. BUT SHE HAS GONE UNHINGED WITH THE WHOLE "WE GOT AWAY WITH MURDER" I AM 🤐

And it didn't look like she was joking with that sentence, she obviously believed it. But now as viewers while we thought we had Ainsley figured out quite a bit we were proven wrong and I'm going to take everything regarding her arc with a pinch of salt now onwards. Did she really forgot she killed Endicott or was that an act too? When exactly did she remember she killed him? Why didn't she confront Malcolm sooner (considering if she figured it out sooner than we had led to believe she did)? And ofc most importantly she wasn't specifically glad that yess we killed a bad man who deserved it (something we'd expect as a way for justification of the murder), she was confident like yayy we got away with murder, her thought process definitely is scary.

Dani was so cute with her smile when Malcolm told her she's beautiful (and essentially perfect and doesn't need to change or fix anything) and was basically siding with Malcolm when Gill was scolding him. (see none of the whitlys except Jessica are sane and they do go overboard, like being dramatic is their family name but Malcolm injecting him was still NOT okay, all whitlys except Jess do questionable things even Malcolm who's the protagonist does but I like the grey fic characters more than shows that make everything into black and white which is more unrealistic coz trauma doesn't disappear overnight and major life events affect your life and how you turn out to be.)

Edrisa is a such an adorable darling ❤, I would totally watch a spin off based on her.

Jessica is so classy and strong and I think such a good representation of strong women 😍. Her attitude of "I'm going to get through this" to anything life throws at her 💯. It's really amazing how she manages to carry herself with such grace. Magnificent.

I hope Malcolm doesn't beat himself too much over the whole "ooh I covered up a murder, I'm a monster now" coz like poor boy has had too much on his plate and he gets one free pass to dismember a dead body and hide a murder, sorry I don't make the rules lol. And I hope he goes back to therapy.

Yeah, he also talks about how it might be his brain. Like, “wired wrong”, “mommy issues”, and “daddy issues” are kinda the top three (esp on tv), so it really felt like he was listing the most common “reasons”. And there is a little pause and voice break when he’s talking about a father doing terrible things, but without any further confirmation, we could read that as him talking about him doing things (like the chloroform) to Malcolm or even just him finding it unbelievable/horrifying that a father could do terrible things because he (in his mind) would never do anything terrible to his children.

I find Martin cagey as heck when confronted about his killing and I think part of it is because, like he said, he just wanted to. Except that doesn’t play too well to a jury when you’re trying not to get fried, so he went with an insanity plea and now he has to keep that up otherwise he’s toast... there’s nowhere else but in his own mind that can he admit that, no, he just loves being in control and being in control of life and death is the peak.

So everyone's talking about how it's confirmed that Martin's father was abusive. Did I misunderstand that scene? Because in it Martin talks about a mother that possibly loved him too much or not enough, while also talking about a terrible father, and I got the impression that we weren't really supposed to take any of those possibilities he mentioned as straight truths. That the only reason he gave that was supposed to be focused on was the "I wanted to". That yes, there are reasons for wanting to, but it boils down to that. He wanted to, and didn't stop himself, he probably could have if he tried, but he didn't want to stop himself.

Prodigal Son s01e07 discussion (spoilers)

What an episode. And the music score in this episode was *chef’s kiss* amazing.…! This was by far the most suspenseful episode. Loved it.

I’ve so many questions. But let’s begin; The episode started off by unknown serial killer shooting at Malcolm and dumping bodies at the junkyard which we later find out that he has been doing it for years now. At the same junkyard, the camping wagon is found…coincidence eh?! Later his name is revealed as Paul Lazar, a mentee of the Surgeon 👀😱.

Edrisa is so darn cute and her using the pizza spatula to carry the smashed bodies…I loved how Malcolm and Dani looked at each other with amazement of seeing the pizza spatula lol. It’s was a cute moment. Now back to the morgue, we see a lot of bodies have been collected from the junkyard which means he has been killing for years. And the shocking moment, when Edrisa found the knife Malcolm saw in his dreams 😱.

Malcolm crashed into Ainsley’s interview to talk to Martin. I gotta say, I’m glad we saw more screen time of Ainsley. During the interview have you guys noticed that Martin was talking about legacy and craves some sort of legacy with his name. And so because we know Martin is a huge narcissist, he might’ve been trying to groom young Malcolm to become a killer like him and when that was failing , he picked Lazar to mentor and be his legacy…ya?????

The way he turned over the interview when Ainsley brought up his victims, was something. He talked about it being a sickness that he couldn’t control, made it all about mental illness. He even added that he has saved more people than he killed. The audacity?! Michael Sheen’s Martin was too good during this scene. He had the upper hand in the interview at that moment till Malcolm showed up. Right away, Ainsley noticed the intense interaction Malcolm and Martin have for each other so she used that to her advantage to rattle Martin. Did anyone else heart broke when Ainsley started talking about Malcolm’s complex PTSD, mental health issues and his inability to have relationships and jobs? That was just painful and I felt a-bit pissed that Ainsley had to go there. Malcolm looked so vulnerable and on the verge of tears during that scene 💔💔💔. Martin’s ego was hurt when his parenting was questioned……pure narcissism!!!

Martin truly enjoyed telling Malcolm that the knife was Malcolm’s and saying he might’ve wanted to use it to “scale fish” and whatnot…which he meant by something else I’m sure. It’s is eerie at this point how he takes pleasure by mentally playing with Malcolm.

We knew Martin was a manipulative genius, but his plan to use Tevin to make himself look like a hero was next level. And Ainsley fell for it. I was put off when she picked up the camera to video tape Martin in action saving Jin…Malcolm was so terrified at what she was doing. Why would she do that? At that point, I was done with Ainsley.

The scene when Jin was dying and needed the chest tube drainage was intense. Malcolm DID NOT want Martin to have the knife to do the incision and rightfully so. And when Malcolm tried to do it himself, his PTSD and hand tremor kicked in. The flashbacks raised a lot of questions; Did young Malcolm kill the girl in the box? Did Martin try to force young Malcolm to stab the girl and Malcolm ran away as he couldn’t? At the end, Ainsley fell into Martin’s trap and gave him the interview he wanted…to be portrayed as a hero. YIKES!!!!

Jessica was horrified when she heard Ainsley say “Dad saved Jin” with a smile in her face. Will Ainsley be on her dad’s side now? Will she release the interview showing him being a hero and a savior? UGGGHHHHH.

I loved the scene with Dani and Malcolm when Malcolm gets overwhelmed with the profiling going wrong and she says it’s okay and it’s also personal for her. That was sweet. Jessica giving the pep talk to Malcolm towards the end was also another sweet moment but I’m still not fully convinced with Jessica lol.

That ending of the episode tho. Chills!! And him knowing Malcolm personally and the camping trip. Damn. So does this mean the next few episodes will be focused on Paul Lazar, considering Martin is in solitary confinement? If so, I’m gonna miss Michael Sheen and can’t wait to see how this Paul Lazar will further ruin Malcolm’s life. Poor man needs a break, for real.

Honestly, I’m really, really eager to know what the hell happened in the camping trip? Was Malcolm involved in the murder of the girl with Martin and his mentee? We see in the flashback of young Malcolm running in the woods with knife dripping with blood. 👀👀👀. What does that mean? Ahhh…I know I’m missing a lot of other things and I’m sorry if my points are all over the place haha. Prodigal Son episode 2 liveblog

(Here’s the episode 1 liveblog.)

My conclusions at the end of episode 1 were: I had been worried from the ads that it would be all doom and gloom, so I’m very glad it’s got moments of humour and that Bright has such a weird dramatic personality. There’s some gore but no more than expected for the genre. I’m enjoying it and I’m going to keep watching. 😊

Spoilers under the readmore:

- "That's your problem, you think life is a case to be solved. Sometimes life is just a tragedy to be endured." - Bright's mom. I feel like this is important characterization for her.

- Oh shit, this one's more gory than the previous one. The snake thing! With the lips sewn shut, I was expecting a dead bug, like in Silence of the Lambs, but a live animal?!

- Poor Edrisa, she was so scared 😩 I like her.

- Michael Sheen continues to be delightful and simultaneously creepy, love it

- "What drug did you give me? I need to be able to wake up!" Oh nooooo, it's not just that Bright can't stay asleep, it's that he doesn't want to. 😢

- "What was it, Fentanyl? I take that in my morning coffee."

- Hm that was a bit of an awkward shift from Bright not answering the phone or listening to the messages to suddenly saying he has to visit his dad. The writing could have been better there.

- Oh gosh that scene with the lawyer was really intense! The last thing I wrote was that the writing could have been better in that other scene, but now in this scene I am ALL IN lol. Very very good.

- lol lol lol "I've never slept with anyone. I mean! I've had sex!" 😂

- omg just a little platonic bondage between friends. This is my new favourite thing. 

- Still enjoying it just as much as the first episode. Still gonna keep watching!
