Maybe an unpopular opinion but I don't think non-herding breeds should be allowed to take herding tests.
#its all fun and games except that there are other animals involved that are being stressed out for your game#its the same to me as doing bitesports with a retriever#so disrespectful to the breed you have#why do you want to get them to do the opposite of what they were made for???#i know this is unpopular and i dont care#i am so happy ckc hunting sports are gatekept#if you want to do herding then get or borrow a herding breed#or play treiiball so your dog herds balls instead of sheep#those are actual living animals and your poodle is controlled chasing not herding#ill get off my high horse but ill stand here brushing it while making eye contact at you#(you being the person bragging about it in the local dog group)#dogblr#dog sports

Aussiedoodles are the fucking worst. They typically use mini aussies(or as they're recognized "mini American shepherds) and that breed has exploded in popularity lately due to being like 30 lbs or less and that makes people think they can live in a 50ft apartment.
OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS A POOR IDEA. Aussies are high energy dogs and if they don't get enough MENTAL stimulation then they drive themselves insane and are prone to reactivity, anxiety, and a myriad of health problems.
Take that anxious mess and throw it together with an unregulated backyard breeder with another misused high energy high intelligence breed and you end up with a 30lb dog who can't even LOOK at another dog without losing their fucking minds.
And people keep buying them. And I've seen so many types of doodles that don't need to exist. Micro doodles. Mini bernedoodles. All being put into private lessons because they can't handle group classes.
For reference, I have been working in the dog training space since 2018 and directly with puppies since 2021. I have two degrees on dog psychology and had to study canine neurodeveoplment.

what dog i think 40k boys would be
based entirely on non-scientific vibes and discussion with @lemon-russ. this started off kind of silly but very quickly became an excuse for me to get slightly deep with the characterisation. slight cw for referenced animal abuse i suppose?
the emperor - border collie
now, for those of you unfamiliar with dogs you may think that picking a medium-sized herding dog is a strange choice for the Master of Mankind. However, if you have ever met a border collie — specifically, a working border collie — you will know exactly where I am going with this. These dogs are ferociously intelligent, completely single-minded, and wedded to their purpose. They will not be distracted from their work by foolish things like ‘fun’ — they will herd those sheep, damn it, and they will herd them where they are meant to be. The Emperor, like a border collie, is distant with his affection, and does not allow room for negotiation: the sheep will go in the pasture, and there they shall stay. But, I hear you protest, the border collie obeys the shepherd, and the Emperor obeys no one but himself! to this I say that the Emperor is his own shepherd; his Plan for humanity is the metaphorical co-pilot here, and it is this plan that guides his fleet, furry feet.
2. malcador — poodle. specifically a miniature white one.
Look, it sounds ridiculous, but poodles are incredibly clever dogs and you’d be a fool to underestimate one — just as you would be a fool to imagine that the frail old man at the Emperor’s side is anything other than a world-destroying threat.
3. the lion — irish wolfhound
Getting into the Primarchs now. It has been said that the Lion has major cat energy — which is completely true. However, I would argue that he ultimately is a hunting hound; a knight at his father’s side, bidden to go where he must. Like a wolfhound, he is tireless, powerful — but also frail in his youth, frailer than you might think (wolfhound pups are notoriously prone to injury because of their longer legs and how clumsy they can be). It is only with age that he reaches his full potential. Also, like most hunting dogs, he likes his sleep.
4. leman russ - a wolf
Well, obviously. However, it’s a really key point that he is a wolf not a dog, because all too often those two things are seen as synonymous when they really aren’t. Wolves and dogs are separated by ten thousand years of evolution, and they rarely get on. Russ loves his family — his fellow wolves — but struggles to relate to his canid brothers, who all seem just a little distant from him. He is drawn to humans (the pull of domestication is strong, even for the wild beast he is), and clashes regularly with the Lion (hounds and wolves can work together, but never rest easy at the same fire).
5. Magnus - borzoi
I’ve said before that Magnus is definitely a borzoi, because they are such eldritch looking creatures — like they know all of the secrets of the universe and they are not planning to tell you. Borzoi are not always viewed as the most intelligent of dogs, but that’s misleading — they’re actually very cunning in their own way, just not necessarily the easiest to train (just like a certain headstrong red fool we know). Independent-minded, a little aloof, friendly to their family — Magnus is a sight hound through and through. And, of course, should he be given a reason to hunt down wolves, he will do so with the baying of his ancestors singing in his ears, and the scent of burning Prospero lodged in his nose.
6. Perturabo - Staffordshire terrier
Squat, grumpy-looking, and sometimes vicious — it’s easy to see the worst of Perturabo in the worst of the staffie. Bred to be pest-killers and dog-fighters, there’s a persistent, harmful idea that these dogs need ‘a firm hand’ when they’re being raised. However, ill-treatment only serves to make these dogs neurotic, nervy and prone to biting — raised correctly, they are soppy and sweet and just want to snuggle on the sofa with the people they love. Unfortunately, Peturabo was reared unappreciated and maltreated, and now it is everyone’s problem.
7. Angron - Old English Mastiff
Mastiffs may have a fearsome appearance, but they are actually some of the sweetest dogs around; happy, dopey drool-machines that only want to spend time glued to their family. But Angron was snatched from his mother’s teat too young, beaten and scourged and forced to bite, and the result is a warped, twisted image of what a mastiff should be: barely-champed down fury, and the sort of hatred that is born when love turns inside out and sour. Every shelter has had to make a horrible choice with certain dogs — seeing that they are too deeply damaged to ever recover, they have done the kindest thing and ended the creature’s suffering, hoping that the next world will be gentler than this one. But no one ever did that for Angron. He is locked outside his master’s house, because at least his anguished howls keep away intruders.
8. Vulkan - Great Pyrenees
Despite their fearsome appearance, livestock guardian breeds like the Great Pyrenees are actually gentle with their flock, living amongst the sheep (like the Salamanders with their human families) — grooming the lambs, cuddling up with the ewes, patrolling with the rams. They are utterly devoted to their task, willing to die for those they sleep alongside, but they love them, and are loved dearly in return. Vulkan is many times larger than his human companions, but they clamber all over him — young and old alike — and he holds them close, vowing to keep them safe from harm, even at the cost of his own life.
9. Sanguinius - Bedlington terrier
You might have to google this one, since it is a little obscure. And now that you have googled it, I probably have some work to do in order to convince you that this floofy terrier is the perfect representation of the Blood Angel Primarch. So, first of all — these terriers are strikingly beautiful. Eye-catchingly adorable — in a strange sort of way , a fey kind of cuteness that has you looking twice. They are sweet little family pets — however, the instant they catch scent of a rat their ancestry rears its head, and they turn into floofy little killers, breaking spines and crushing skulls with merry abandon. And if you need any more convincing think of this — doesn’t the terrier look like a lamb? A cutesy little lamb? A sacrificial lamb?
#headcanons#my writing#might do another list when inspiration strikes but this is what i have so far#guilliman is a golden retriever fyi#hard working and intelligent and best suited to farm life but stuck in a city#lorgar is a grubby white gremlin they found in the trash#who humps feet

OKAY. HERE WE GO. my black bulls doggies!!!! :D
there's definitely a noticeable difference in style/quality of some of these just due to time between each design and/or how i was feeling at the time of drawing them (these hot and rainy summer months have been super rough on me)
ALSO they were all done symmetrically so that i wouldn't burn out and could actually finish them LOL . OK EVERYBODY BELOW
starting off with asta, a husky/coyote mutt!! :D in my au, devil users end up becoming hybrids of whatever their devil is. so since liebe is a coyote, that's what asta is too!! (also, i haven't drawn him yet, but yuno is a malamute :D similar looking breeds but different since they're not actually related!)
(here's liebe too hehe, scrappy lil coyote!!)
then of course, noelle, who's a saluki!! a very regal breed for a very royal gal!! i thought making her pigtails into her ears was a fun idea HEHEHE
(+ an alternate design version!)
here's finral, he's a shetland sheepdog!! gentle and sweet and always trying to herd his people together :) you might notice that with some of my designs, i end up doing extra scarring; that's usually just personal headcanons, as i think some injuries would be too grievous to fully heal. though some (for instance, gauche) don't have a canon story behind them, i just think they're fitting
vanessa, who's a cavalier king charles spaniel!! her ears sorta blend into her hair lol, i had an alternate version where they were the same darker brown as her fur but i decided that them blending in looked better and fit the breed standard as well.
gauche, the ever wary american akita!! being a fiercely loyal and protective breed, but aloof and suspicious of strangers.
then there's grey, who's a long-haired chihuahua!! sweet and skittish HEHE, also i haven't drawn it yet but i've always imagined her big transformation disguise that she's first introduced as to be a rottweiler LOL
next up is luck, a jack russell terrier!! i've always thought this was a very fitting breed pick, intelligent but highly energetic and a little mischievous !!!
and of course, magna is never far behind luck; he's a dobermann pinscher!! similar to luck in energy and intelligence, but even more fiercely protective of his loved ones.
GORDON!!! actually one of my favourite black clover characters, he's a dalmatian not only because of the fitting aesthetic, but also because of his kind and sensitive personality!
the masked supermage zora, a german shepherd! watchful and sometimes stubborn but loyal nonetheless made this pick fairly easy to come to. though, before getting to see more of him, my initial pick was actually a kai ken!
charmy's design is one that i'm the most proud of for sure; i mentioned in an earlier post that the different peoples are different species of animals. well charmy is a half toy poodle, half american badger!! i thought a badger was a VERY fitting pick, as they are generally unbothered by much unless their food is threatened LOL
and finally, lastly (for now) is nero!! she's a bull terrier, but i really wanted to keep her twin tails from her anti-bird form! her outfit is definitely the one i edited the most, i just wanted to give her something more practical out of personal preference.
additionally, henry is an old english sheepdog, nacht is a black norwegian elkhound/fox, and yami is a wolfdog!
I HAVE SOME OTHER CHARACTERS DOODLED HERE AND THERE but nothing else really finished yet. if there's a specific character anyone would like to see i would be SO happy to draw/doodle them to show off!! i honestly have a huge list of dog/cat breeds picked out for every character i could think of; i just am hellishly indecisive and can never pick who to start on next AHDSJAGDJSDK
THE POSITIVE RECEPTION TO MY ART SO FAR HAS MADE ME SO HAPPY BTW AUAGGHHH i have no idea how/if im able to reply to people directly but just know that i keep reading over everyone's reblog tags and stimming like crazy IM SO HAPPY THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH AUHGHFEHGGRH
#black clover#bark clover#asta black clover#liebe black clover#noelle silva#finral roulacase#vanessa enoteca#gauche adlai#grey black clover#luck voltia#magna swing#gordon agrippa#zora ideale#charmy pappitson#nero black clover#secre swallowtail#the black bulls#tabbies art#im so sorry to henry nacht and yami fans#i promise i'll do their designs soon

Assigning ihnmaims characters dog breeds(as someone who has worked with and whos special interest is dogs)
Ted: Whippet
A rather sleek and handsome breed, that can be highly intelligent, but nervous and fidgety. They are also often confused as the much more popular breed greyhounds (get it? Cause Teds a fraud)
Ellen: Standard Poodle
A gorgeous well sought after breed often wanted exclusively for looks, but they are also a very intelligent and affectionate breed. They are a very people oriented breed that do well as emotional support animals
Gorrister: Bull Mastiff
Bullmastiffs are a very mild mannered breed but can become agressive quickly. They are often very stubborn and devoted(pre-AM gorrister aight ☝️). They can be quite a loving breed but can also be very standoffish and avoidant to those who they are unfamiliar with.
Benny: Border Collie
(Im mostly working with the description of non monkey Benny that Ted gave)
An extremely intelligent and determined breed. They are often used for herding and for agility sports. They are quite loyal and independent, but thrive in working environments.
Nimdok: Kerry Blue Terrier
A wiry coated, unpopular breed. Often hostile towards other animals and are very strong willed and independent. They are very clever but stubborn and proud.

What Dogs would the Tf2 Mercs be? Pt 1 dadspy
So I’ve seen Spy as a poodle, and as like a greyhound… but hear me out:
Beauceron dog- it’s a French breed used for herding animals, which can be used for police work or war missions [like in WWII]. They’re loving to their families and aloof with strangers.
And there’s a perfect coat variant for BLU Spy if you wanted them to be the same kind of dog.
I imagine RED Scout’s Ma is a Jack Russel Terrier and he’s like a bigger Beauceron-Jack Russel mix. [His brothers are still bigger than him]. Jack Russel Terriers have boundless energy and were bred for fox hunting. They are loud and excitable dogs that wouldn't make a good apartment pet or lapdog.
BLU Scout’s mom in my mind is a more mellow and patient person than RED Ma, so I imagine she’d be the same kind of dog that he’d own. A Labrador Retriever. He’s a Beauceron-Labrador mix.
RED Spy is the dad in both cases. Cause like: The way that BLU Spy acted in Emesis Blue and Meet the Spy is just…
Ain’t no way he’s BLU Scout’s dad and out here showing him those pictures bro. And then calling him boy with that disrespectful attitude after making a new core memory the guy didn’t want.
Basically, RED Spy got that dad energy even when he’s sassing RED Scout; BLU doesn’t have that ever. Not even after BLU Ma gets decapitated and Scout kidnapped.

So, if the dog motif is made into a more blatant metaphor, and we say Izzy is a dog bred for one thing, then trained for blood sport, then his owner suddenly quits dogfighting after becoming enamored with a newbie livestock rescue ranch owner and expects Izzy to immediately take to herding just because he tossed him in the enclosure with the sheep, and then the ranch owner gets cold feet and goes back to his high powered city businesswoman leaving the ranch and the sheep and Izzy's owner behind, and Izzy finally Gets herding and starts doing the job but only after the owner who had wanted him to in the first place has become the wolf/poacher/cliffdrop Izzy needs to protect his sheep from...
More info on these breed groups to help you pick which you think fits Izzy's personality best:
Herders* are easily distracted from tasks that aren't challenging enough but incredibly focused on activities that fit their instincts, attentive, energetic, sociable, eager to please, use barks and nips to make the animals in their charge move where they want (the inventors of "all bark no bite" - unless of course you are a predator in which case say goodbye to your carotid artery), and will do their jobs effectively with or without supervision. If you do not give them animals to herd, they will herd you. *I'm including livestock guardians here, as you might have sussed from the description, even though it's not their official classification. Personally, I think the instincts and (non-combat) temperaments are similar enough, and lots of breeds from both classes are often used for the other type of work or both. Listen, you're already humoring me, so just go with this too, okay? <3
Sporting dogs are not typically that sociable with other animals, have a very good memory, are devoted, loyal, eager to please, curious/adventurous, and resilient. They are highly trainable and can learn basically any trick or call, but will be anxious, distracted, and uncontrollable without clear and consistent direction.
Scent hounds, like the examples I listed, have exceptional stamina, endurance, and agility, are persistent, tenacious, and often will not quit even when told to until the job is done to their own satisfaction or they can't do it anymore. They are naturally gentle and patient, but can get loud and mean if they don't get enough alone time or breed appropriate work to do. They are also known for their pretty voices.
Working dogs are the type of smart and stubborn that makes them opinionated about the rules and commands they're given, to the point that they might choose to purposefully disobey, or even engage in malicious compliance. They are highly trainable and devoted, but they really make you earn their obedience and loyalty. If you are not at least as smart, competent, and confident as they are, you can't handle them - and they are not afraid to prove it.
Terriers are also smart and stubborn and will make you earn good behavior. They need consistency and are very territorial, very energetic, and equally persistent and unwilling to quit as hounds. They don't have a lot of patience and are emotionally/mentally sensitive, easy to frustrate or upset.
Companions are also territorial, intensely loyal, need a lot of attention and are likely to get jealous of other pets, babies, and new friends/partners. They don't have a lot of self-awareness, especially regarding their size (i.e. very large breeds that think they are lap dogs & very small breeds that will try to start something with much bigger animals). Maybe that last bit is more applicable to Con than Izzy lmao.

happy anniversary STBH!! i bought both books while on a week break and read them both in two days voraciously despite my phone failing to decipher the epub files (squinting at a 200x zoomed pdf is a painful way to read but it was so worth it). i am periodically rotating the characters round my mind like the hypothetical apple number 1. Cain especially has been placed in my little mental cabinet of curiosity that i drop by during quiet hours to think about. love that man. number one cain fan. chewing him like an interesting stick. i love every other character as well though theyre all so fascinating and v human
anyway all this ramble to say i love your works and im patiently waiting for the moth release. ur prose is so lovely and i love love love the way you interpret folklore and mythology and your art
question for the stbh gang: what actually are their daemons? i know felix has estibarith the swan but im so curious as to the rest...
omg noo i'm so sorry the epub didn't work! i know you already suffered through it but for anyone else with this issue, i have a recommendation for google books app (if using android) but even if that doesn't work, you can always contact me and we can make something more readable (like a pdf with big font or something) that fits
i'm so happy that cain resonates with people, that old man is a favourite of mine even if i did forget to change his name from the original placeholder (whoops). he's a lil fucked up now but his story is far from over
as for tha daemons..
Islin: i narrowed it down to two potentials?? That i kind of bounce between. I tend to lean more towards a polled bull than anything else - a same-sex daemon which would be the only one in the cast i think, which i tried to parallel in pern story with him being the only one who doesn't match the canon rules for rider sexuality & dragon colour. but regardless the daemon is called Tarannach and the overall symbolism is a massive powerful dominant animal who is nonetheless "de-fanged" in some way (polled cattle naturally lack horns!) and appears more peaceful as a result. Tarannach is wilful and domineering, disagrees with Islin frequently (before Islin has his spine-growing moments), and unapologetically takes up space. would also be a massive inconvenience in day to day life but that's kind of the point. Before settling as a bull, Tarannach went through phases of wanting to be smaller and smaller.
Bowman has a dog daemon. It just has to be that way, there's no getting around it. I joked around that she would be a poodle but actually I would lean more towards a collie instead, a herding type. Something that looks rough and ready but is actually surprisingly high maintenance. Her name is Nell/Nellie. Her personality is irreverent, never takes anything seriously. She turns into a feral animal during the full moon.
We know Estibariz is a swan but some more about her - she wanted to be a lioness, something big and fierce, and Félix insisted that she would probably end up a serpent or a fox, something with connotations of being a sneaky liar, and he felt that when she did settle, it would be an externalisation of some inner ugliness he never wanted anyone else to see. when she did settle she enjoyed a big I Told You So. When he was taken by Puck and spat out again, she returned as a form-shifting daemon again, and had gained the ability to separate from him and travel long distances. She never shapeshifted willingly though. The first person to touch Estibariz aside from Félix was Bowman. The second person was Helena.
Clarion is the only one whose daemon was actually, for real, a horse. His name was Drey and he was a dapple grey draft breed.
Senca is obviously a witch so also had a daemon who could travel far from her. He was a bird, I thought maybe a nightjar or collared dove. Never got that far in the au so didn't pick a name. We'll just call him Namiliyath
Léa's was a thorny devil
Jean's is a ferret and her name is Missy. It looks like it could potentially be an ermine, a symbol of nobility, but no. It's a common hunting animal, white with black eyes.
Erica's is a magpie
Pascal does not have a daemon. There's something there that looks very swanlike, but it speaks with his voice. In a human au, it's a golden eagle.
I don't think I made anything for other characters, again I never got that far writing it

Aftg characters but dog breeds, in no particular order
Neil is an Australian cattle dog, high energy, loves running, stubborn, they don’t have self-preservation instincts, google “cattle dog getting flipped by bull” watch the videos and tell me that’s not Neil
Andrew is a miniature pinscher, I’m open to debate on this one but minpins are basically compact malinoises with a bit of assh0le added so…
Kevin has to be a border collie, I don’t think I need to explain
Alison is a poodle (she is always in the continental cut, viz photo), I just feel like the whole poodles are prissy and just bred to look good, when in reality they’re versatile hunting dogs, gives Alison vibes.
Jean is a mutt, a shelter dog who needs to learn how to live. If I had to pick one specific mutt, I’d be a doodle (don’t ask me to explain bc I can go on forever about this)
Nicky is a husky, he just gives off yapper vibes and male huskies are known to be aloof
Renee is a great Pyrenees, friendly, cuddle bug, love their family, but also can and will kill. These dogs don’t f around when it comes to protecting their family
Matt is a Great Dane, big, goofy, social, some are used in personal projection but it’s not common.
Aaron is a Shiba Inu, he is an assh0le to everyone and anyone (except like 2,5 people) and yeah you can tell him to do something, but you can’t expect him to do it or be enthusiastic about it
Dan would probably be a German shepherd (I can see her being a Rottweiler or a Doberman too), natural leader, protective, she would be a well bred one tho (not neurotic or with 0 herding instinct)
(Sorry for the weird picture, but this is the only nice German shepherd on google that isn’t sable)
Tumblr won’t let me upload more photos, might make a part two 🤷♀️

Since we have cat cafe for demons, I shall give dog one too
Satan- cocker spaniel, I've seen ppl jokingly say chihuahua for Satan, but I'm biased cuz I had a spaniel with a temper, big fluffy ears like Satan's hair
Beelzebub- Belgian Malinois ,Energy full, hard to train, fits the wandering king in my opinion
Bael- German shepherd, German shepherd's and Belgian Malinois often get mixed up, and German shepherd's are smart working dogs, often showed as loyal companions
Leviathan- Husky just a not very vocal one due to his past, huskies are probably top prettiest dog breeds, a demon with pretty privilege, sound familiar? A stubborn personality, hard to train, escape artists
Belphegor- Basset hound, seen as a lazy dog, but it's still a hunting dog, you're gonna get it! Once he wakes up from his 10th nap that is...
Mammon- Caucasian shepherd, or saint Bernard, huge dog breeds, Caucasian shepherd's are huge guard fluffy dogs
Lucifer- Collie, cuz the Lords my shepherd, this one's more of a vibe, a herding dog that herds all the healers
Solomon- borzoi, just the vibe, Barbatos- miniature poodle, Leray- jackrussel, Gabriel- Maltese ( known by Internet as the crusty white, he wouldn't be crusty tho), Micheal- afghan hound, paimon- shih tzu, Bimet- pomeranian ( THE dog of rich people usually)
Thoughts?

(this is @kelev9) if you couldn't have a herding breed, what kind of dog would you have and why?
realistically it would probably be a standard or medium poodle, since my partner grew up with those and would like one (and they are nice dogs, if i wasn't so locked in on shepherds i would probably consider it more skfdhjfg). in short they're smart, silly, active and easily trained! not so much a fan of the coat (or ears) and the maintenance but again, my partner is more used to that and more than willing to handle it.
if its just my choice though, probably some kind of spitz. actually i think i'd end up with a west siberian laika if i could find a good breeder nearby, i haven't looked into that but i like what i've seen of those dogs.
(and if we put realism away for a bit, an alaskan husky, or several, totally not because i've had dog sledding on the mind lately and i think these dogs are cool as fuck)
#and hey i do want to get into hunting in the future so those first two would fit into that pretty well#asks#ty <3

Mads, I've been Autistic about what breed(s) of dog the FireFam could be and even if you don't like interact w this post I just would like to make you laugh- I may have to post multiples b/c there's A Lot. Ok, so, Bobby is a yellow lab a la Shadow from Homeward Bound and I will die on that hill. Athena is, obv, a Dobie- she's stunning, but a softy for her family but she also makes smiling look like a threat. (1/?)
Thank you for your patience dear I was rushing to finish the F&F AU and was also rather busy this weekend in general. I'm including your other three asks here as screenshots and this all is going to get a bit long so I'm putting everything below a cut to spare people's dashes!
FIRST OF ALL, HOW DARE YOU. HOW FUCKING DARE YOU.
SHADOW FROM HOMEWARD BOUND!?
I'M GOING TO DROWN IN MY OWN TEARS.
WHEN THE KID IS LIKE OH MAYBE HE WAS TOO OLD AND THEN SHADOW APPEARS BECAUSE HE'S GOING TO COME HOME TO HIS BOY NO MATTER WHAT!!!! G O D
I NEED TO BE SEDATED!!!!
Ahem.
STICK A LITTLE CROWN ON HER AND CALL HER ATHENA!
I babysat for a family that had a Doberman and he was truly a sweetheart. So protective of me and would stay glued to my side while I was there. "A softie for her family but makes smiling look like a threat" is soooooo Athena.
oh my GOD I'm DYING
Look at this baby. Pure fucking ADHD right here. *pats puppy* This guy can fit SO much anxiety and innate need to be of use in him!
I'M FUCKING HOWLING OVER EDDIE. LOOK YOU'RE NOT... YOU'RE NOT WRONG ABOUT THE CORGI COMMENT. THERE ARE TEARS IN MY EYES. BUT.
This is still Eddie in my opinion.
Someone send that bit about Chim to Kenneth Choi I think he'd find it hysterical.
BEHOLD. CHIMNEY HAN. Look at those EARS.
I also personally could see Chim as a greyhound or a whippet.
Chim's just got this fastness about him that makes me think of that kind of dog. Is this me remembering how he literally just SPRINTED away from Albert while playing basketball because he panicked about lying? Maybe. You can't prove anything.
I had to remind myself what a Chow Chow is and OHMYGOD IT'S SO FLUFFY???
However I always saw Hen as a Great Pyrenees.
These things will fuck you UP. They're flock dogs but not in the Border Collie sense. They don't herd. They kill the predators that try to go after the flock. They will chase down the wolves and destroy them. And they are super super SUPER protective of and gentle with kids. They ADORE kids. So that's my two cents there!
Ohmygod Maddie is SUCH a Border Collie.
INCH resting that you say Standard Poodle for Karen...
Poodles are actually what my mom grew up with and she's always talked about how smart and wonderful they are, she's owned three in her lifetime and adores them. I know they kinda have this stereotype of being snooty but I think they're great and they ARE so fucking smart holy shit. They're smarter than some humans I've met.
However. Chris.
I'm gonna have to fight you (lovingly) on this one, Nonny.
I will say that when I googled this dog I laughed so fucking hard my ribs hurt. I CRIED.
They are very cute as puppies!
However. I must counter-argue and say that Christopher is...
AN ENGLISH CREAM DACHSHUND
*sobbing* look at how CUTE it is!!!!!
*continues sobbing over the cute*
Anyway thus concludes the nonny's opinions, and mine! I had a good laugh over this series of asks, thank you nonny. I hope you had a good weekend.

All of a sudden, Meatball is the human and the 100th and our girls in the ATA are dogs.
What breed is everyone? Is Buck a golden retriever?
OOOOOOH. This is fun!!! And I have put a lot of thought into this, hahahahahahahaha. So I hope you don't hate it! 🤣
I think Buck’s your rescue dog! He’s soft, but he’s had a hard life, and despite all that he’s just trying to do the right and honest thing. I think he’s a mix between a shepherd and a mountain dog of some kind that looks absolutely adorable, but used to live on the street.
Now Bucky, I think he’s your golden. He’s the helper dog you get your rescue to teach them how to be a dog and give them a friend, someone to show you how to experience the world. He’s lovable, he’s loyal, and he loves to run around and chase a ball, and he’s so so patient.
Dorothy gives me the Border Collie vibe. She’s got a pretty loud bark when need be, she herds her girls and the rest of the pilots she’s in charge of, she goes up against anyone she needs to for them, and she’s super super smart.
Rose totally screams Afghan to me. She’s so smart and independent and confident, and she’s driven and suspicious of people, but she’s also a little in her head sometimes, and may seem a little ditzy or self absorbed, when she’s actually far from it. She’s loyal and she doesn’t trust just anyone. And she has really, really great hair.
I think a Brittany fits Amelia. She’s energetic and loving, she gives everyone a chance and she’s never met someone who she couldn’t make into a friend. She’s smart, she wears her heart on her sleeve, she’s a really fast learner and one of the quickest to move through the ranks in the ATA, and she doesn’t let a whole lot get her down.
I don't know why, but I cannot get a Pug out of my head when I think of George. Or a Corgi. Like, he's just so fun and witty and he's always a good time. He's clever and charming and fairly docile (until provoked) and he commands a room so well.
Curt kinda feels like a Jack Russell Terrier, honestly. Or maybe something crossed with a Chihuahua. He's lively and alert, he sometimes has a little bit of an attitude, but he's really fast and has so much courage and spunk and he's so dedicated to his friends.
Ok, hang with me here, but I think Rosie's 100% a Standard Poodle. He's sociable, energetic, athletic, and beyond intelligent. He's showy and smooth but he's also sweet and hard-working. Anyone looking at him would think he's a total teddy bear, but he's actually a machine who is never afraid to do the right thing and follows orders like a champ. His nickname is Twinkle Toes, he's a total poodle.
And, finally, our girl. Our damaged but in the process of healing heroine, Stella Frank. I have gone back and forth on so many different dogs, because I couldn't find just the right one. I briefly considered the Doberman, but Frank's a little too hesitant for that breed, I think. I considered a smaller dog in the terrier family or even a beagle, but she's not that friendly or loud, and I even looked into a Dalmatian, but I'm not quite sure "energetic" is the right word for Frank. Anxious? Nervous? Needing to move her body so she doesn't get a little destructive? Yes. She's not jumping up and down, running around in circles excited.
BUT, there was one dog I just kept coming back to: the Greyhound. She's pretty mild, but a little standoffish and sensitive. She doesn't respond well to criticism or harsh/loud words, and her former life wasn't a great one. Which, I think many Greyhounds also experience. She doesn't like strangers, she can be a little off-putting and straight faced, but once she's comfortable and familiar she's fun to be around and affectionate. She wants to be part of a team, rather than a cog in a machine, and she likes wide, open spaces where she can be as free as she wants to be.
