♡ Crafts, pastries and tea - 17.02.2024 ꔫ
Hi! ✧ I'm back from my work trip, so I finally have some time to share this coord from 2 weeks ago ♡ I just got this 2012 JSK (Love Ring Love Ribbon by Baby, The Stars Shine Bright) second hand and felt like it was perfect to wear while the Valentine's Day air was still around!
I was happy to meet new friends at @sun.flowi's place, where we spent the afternoon sewing, drawing and crafting some jewellery. (◕દ◕)
@chachapio (she's insanely skilled) taught me how to use pliers and eye pins to make my own necklace, and I'm actually very proud of the finished piece! She even kindly made me some matching earrings in the meantime.。*♡
I really love this set and I can't wait to wear it! I enjoyed the crafting process so much I'm now considering buying my own supplies to make some jewellery at home. I just got into polymer clay and BJDs, but is there really such a thing as too many hobbies anyway? (• ▽ •;)
· dress, socks: Baby, The Stars Shine Bright · headdress, bag, necklace, earrings, ring: Angelic Pretty · turtleneck: VCastle · everything else is offbrand 🎀

Earrings I made this summer! I'd been on the lookout for fun earrings to buy whenever I went to anywhere that'd be selling trinkets, but I'm very picky with my earrings... So I was like. Hey I should just make my own!!!
btw the fish ones are based on this incredible fish plushie I got from a thrift store made by a local artist in Steveston, as the tag it came with said. But the artist's name wasn't on it so I don't know who specifically made them... So the fish design isn't my original idea I just loveee this lil plush so much I had to turn him into earrings!!
They all turned out pretty fuckin good I love them so much GOD it took so long but it was so worth it I have SO much fun wearing these... There are polymer clay ones and shrink plastic ones; I used pencil crayons to colour the shrink plastic and put UV resin over them (which was so spooky lol I hate the idea of working with resin and I did my best to be safe working with it orz The resin finish does feel soooo nice tho I'm glad I did it) and then set them out in the hot summer sun for a day or two to cure.
wip photos:
Sketching out earring ideas (+some doodles of Candle Light in the corner lol):
polymer clay wip +linking the fruity one:
I have a bunch of chains and jump rings from old unwanted jewelry I took apart, which was perfect for adding additional details and beads etc. Earring hooks I got a few years ago from when I was making earrings to sell at the student art sale (+bonus you can see the lil fish plushie those earrings are based on haha)
I really love earrings with lil dangly trinkets, I want to feel like a bunch of keychains!! It's grounding and nice (sometimes its sensorily too much for me lol but I usually just vibe check in the morning to see if I'm feeling up to wearing one with a lot of jangly bits and that works fine. plus I can just take em off if needed whatevs)
For the shrink plastic I drew the designs digitally first n printed them out so I could trace them onto the plastic.
+bonus a v shitty video I took of the nasturtium shrink plastic one in the oven (its v fun to watch it curl. too bad the lil toaster oven window is so dirty lol)

my first polymer clay work was a ring with an oath to Riju from the new part of Zelda. I also decided to repeat Link's earrings from epoxy resin 🥺🥺🥺

15 Adorable Polymer Clay Ideas
Polymer clay is the most versatile crafting media, with endless applications and uses. From handmade jewelry to wall art, polymer clay is an easy-to-use available option. While it may take a bit of practice to sculpt using clay adroitly, the skill-building is meditative and enjoyable. No matter how you decide to start working with clay, be sure you have a craft knife or a clay cutter available, aluminum foil to make forms and molds, and that you preheat your oven before baking your clay projects to eradicate cracking. Check out the ideas below to find the best starter project for your entry into the polymer clay world.
Fruit Trinket Boxes
While these elegant trinket boxes use a wooden bangle bracelet to get things started, the accents of clay really set them apart from some simple crafts. In case you are nervous about free-handing each of the fruit textures, then use a washi tape to stencil off your clay design before applying for the painted pattern work.
Modern Earrings
Add a homemade flair touch to any outfit with a pair of geometric earrings. A duo of pastel and neutral colors keeps these clay designs relatively subtle and, therefore, exactly wearable. Complete with a polymer-safe coat to add a layer, or leave them matte for a smooth effect.
Geometric Wall Hanging
For a mid-century modern-inspired decor, create a geometric wall hanging set. Peach and brass work perfectly together, but don’t hesitate to measure with silver hardware and pastel blue as well. Either way, add string tassels to complete each piece with style.
Rainbow Magnets
Brighten up your day with a set of handmade rainbow magnets for your refrigerator. Just be sure to hot glue every magnet to the baked polymer clay well before popping it on the fridge to measure their longevity.
Ice Cream Cone Wall Planters
To give your walls a little touch of life, choose sculpting planters from polymer clay and start filling them with succulents. The cone shapes of ice cream are not only whimsical but also simple to make. You need to roll a circle of polymer clay, score it with a tool of dull clay and then secure it around an aluminum foil cone before baking it into shape. It is perfect for filling these clay potters with faux plants, so they don’t stand up perfectly to daily watering.
Cactus Ring Holder
A stylish jewelry storage solution can be risky to work into your room’s decor, so opt instead for a whimsical, do-it-by-yourself display. This cactus-shaped ring holder can be created in any color, and also it holds a few of your prettiest pieces, so make some to give to your friends as well.
Standing Bud Vase
Fresh flowers can add elegant beauty to your home, and a single bud vase can stretch your bouquet to many types of spaces. Simply take your cue from “A Beautiful Mess,” and then start creating a neutral Stan vase and fill it with a single tulip.
Emoji Heart Best Friends Necklaces
Capitalize on the fame of emoji’s with this tech-inspired jewelry design. While these necklaces are simple to create, they come together with the help of a sharp craft knife and a little heart-shaped cookie cutter. Once the polymer clay is set, don’t forget to give a gift of one half of the heart pendant to your BFF.
Stamped Clay Succulent Pots
While you could use clay stamping tools to make a set of subtly-patterned planters, a piece of etched glass or strategically-edged cardboard will work well. Create three or four of these planters in the same color to display together- they look perfect in clusters.
Stamped Clay Garden Markers
You have to turn your scraps of polymer clay into stitch-shaped labels for a straightforward solution to keep your garden vegetables. In order to help these DIYed markers stay comprehensible, paint each one carefully with a weather-proof clear coat when it’s stamped and baked.
Tabletop Tic-Tac-Toe
The best way to add a pop of color to your coffee table, this handmade set is also a practical piece for entertaining. Set it out before guests reach to encourage tic-tac-toe matches or admiration of your handiwork.
Monogrammed Bookmark
Some things in life are superior, curling up with a perfect book, but adding a handmade bookmark to your story session might up the ante. Also, you can source leather-effect clay from a craft store, but adding a pebble texture to regular polymer works just as well.
Beaded Necklace
Get your feet wet with polymer clay with a simple jewelry craft. Try your hand at a pair of different bead sizes and shapes, and aim for flexibility to ensure a professional-looking clay project. Also, this is a great starter project for the kid because there are no requirements for painstaking sculpting or sharp tools.
Marble Coasters
A gold leaf edge helps these faux marble coasters pop, so you don’t need to skip that metallic finishing touch. This readable tutorial guides you through making the swirling, faux-marble clay outcome, which is simple to achieve, so don’t hesitate to get started on the project.
Clay-Covered Pens
If your office materials or supplies seem a bit tired lately, give some plain pens a renovation with a handful of plumber clay. Try rolling some complementary colors for a more finish, and be sure to erase the ink before baking each of the pens to set. A pair of these and a notepad would also create an amazing teacher’s gift.

★ abby, maru, & leah + kandi :-p
abigail
most likely has been experienced prior, in terms of kandi. there's no doubt a possibility to where caroline might've bought her daughter a set of pony beads to play with in abby's youth. most likely in hopes of making flowery earrings, bracelets, or a simple, modest-coloured ring.
however, she mostly made neon-colored cuffs that'd reach up towards her shoulders. probably for scraps of string and stray materials all over the floor.
she'd would use her dexterity to make accessories for cosplay, or to simply express herself. would oftentimes get into quarrels with her mother and father on the topic of such "flamboyant clothing", whenever it's simply a hobby of hers. either had to drop it, or overtime, got too occupied to properly sit down and make any pieces.
shoe charms, pieces for her sword, and even clothing for her guinea pig, david, would be the various things she'd create. i could imagine that, if she was ever arguing about her clothing choice, she'd rebelliously make her own out of pony beads. that said, there's probably a hidden stash underneath that mess of a bed somewhere.
if abigail was ever given kandi, she would make something in-turn for the person. the girl would want to challenge herself, so singles would not appeal to her. rotator cuffs, complex peyote patterns, and weird-shaped beads would be her bread and butter.
maru
would genuinely be interested in the ins and outs of kandi-making, and would pick it up as her form of idle "knitting".
she would love to study different variables that went with such jewelry: how could she optimize the most out of three yards of string? what was the best material of cord could she acquire? what's the average pony bead size, and how could she efficiently not waste any of them?
maru would provide analyses on the dry rot phenomenon in reference to kandi-making, and would view the artform as a science, in a sense. she'd be mesmerized by the mathematics that it takes when considering how many materials that you'd need, how to measure them, and organizing the different beads in such articulated patterns. the woman would remember how to do different star-shaped patterns in terms of 10 for the base, 3 for the tip, and 5 for the longer point... etc.
humouring herself, she would attempt to make a device that would simulate beading, knotting, and cutting. at the end of the day, she ultimately had an appreciation for what only hands could do—with weaving pieces of plastic between stretchy fabric—in comparison to a robotic approach.
nevertheless, she would enjoy kandi, but as a side-hobby. as maru is more interestsed into how to maximize her output; treating it as mental stimulation than in terms of jewelry-making. taking out rulers to measure the chord, jotting down the ratio of proper beads versus improper ones, and decorating gizmos with the finished products would constitute her fascinations.
leah
between her bigger projects, she likes to keep some hemp rope and homemade beads on hand to fiddle with.
in terms of more traditional kandi, such as pony beads and the whatnot, she'd be more inclined to make her own. either it be polymer clay, woodworking, or glass-blowing; she'd find ways to be very hands-on and creative.
if someone knew that she enjoyed the arts, and gifted her a set of plastic beads, leah would not be opposed to it—moreso, it would give her an incentive to make something work from the materials. unnatural, artificial textures and the like are not her favourites; but, as she does not believe in being wasteful, she'd use such a present wisely.
earthy colors would be her favourites to work with. to attach onto the cord, she may work with wire-bending with pliers to make a loop to dangle a mineral or crystal off of as an accent. something about working with tools felt more like extensions of her body—something as natural as breathing.
organizing, weaving, knitting, and working with all of the different shapes and shades that come with kandi would fascinate her. even if she was not one for the bright neons often seen within such a sphere, she would have the utmost respect for it. when it comes the seasons of giving, she'd be down to give some for free—especially to the little ones—as her knack and love for the arts ever-grows.
