Today in things I have learnt: when making a tumblr poll for intersex people, present multiple options for the non-intersex people to vote because they are so very numerous and so very curious and will completely dominate the results of your poll to a point where you can't see much of anything else.

Made a poll earlier today on when one’s intersex variation became apparent. Within an hour results were something like 30% puberty, 20% while questioning gender, 5% baby, 5% other care. Just returned to the site 13 hours later and now we’ve got this:

Okay, so with all of tournaments and stuff I was thinking of running a bracket of my own. Specifically a body sharing bracket because that sounds fun and I haven't seen one of those. But I'm getting a it tripped up on something.

I don't know a lot about Moon Knight but based on what little I know from the Disney + show, it certainly seems a body sharing story.

But also so is Sakuna and Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen. And I'm worried it would be insensitive to compare DID a legitimate medical condition with demon possession.

specific parameters:

when exactly your teenage self gets this information is up to you, so long as they're your teenage self at the time.

your teenage self will learn the message and that it comes from you, their future self.

if it's something objectively true/false, they'll know it's true; if it's more subjective, they'll know you believe it's true based on your knowledge of the future; if it's advice, they'll know it's given in good faith based on your future life.

you need to decide NOW. no looking things up beforehand. (no sharing the winning lottery numbers unless you happen to have some memorized!)

you can combine things if they're really just parts of one big statement. so "You're genderfluid and your name is Adrian" is fine, but "move to California and invest in Facebook" isn't.

if your statement fits multiple categories, pick the one you think is the best overall fit.

am I wrong for saying “shoutout to asexuals”?

ok so recently, whenever a conversation has died or whatever, I’ll just say “shoutout to asexuals” and then move on, because, idk, it’s a bit funnygoofy and also I like my asexual friends. Anyway, I said it in front of my mother and she said not to do it anymore, because it could be seen as “othering” people with asexuality. I don’t see it that way at all, but I wouldn’t like to be accidentally homophobic, so I’m using a poll to get real asexual opinions

for reference, I’m bisexual, and my mother knows that, so I am part of the LQBTQ+ community, but I’m (maybe) not asexual. I’ve been thinking about things around the aro/ace spectrum, based on past experiences, but I feel as though I’m not sure enough to give myself any proper labels. My mother doesn’t know about that part.

so, my mother’s arguments:

It may seem like I’m “othering” the asexual community by saying that

its like being the a white girl in a room with a few black people in it and saying “shoutout to black people” - it feels weird to her

im not saying it because I genuinely want to support asexuals, I’m saying it as more of a verbal tic

my 2 asexual friends agreeing is not a large enough group, even if they both are fine with it, others may not be

and my arguments are:

Im saying it to include asexuals, because they can sometimes feel disregarded in LGBTQ+ spaces

its pride month, literally the best time to give random unprovoked asexuality shoutouts

Idk, I feel like asexual people wouldn’t really be offended by that

both of my asexual friends think it’s hilarious and encourage me to keep going

it’s like a cis person saying “yay trans pride” at random moments and being told not to because it’s making trans people feel more separate

im not othering asexual people, I’m celebrating them

I know you made that post a while ago but actually imagining myself from an alien perspective makes me feel more confident about my body. Bots who hate humans probably wouldn't care, we're all same for them and they'd think we're complicating ourselves with this. But those fascinated with humanity wouldn't think anyone is ugly and instead be amazed at how differently developed we are. Looking at myself from a perspective of a big excited cybertronian scientist is much better than looking at myself through the prism what people want me to look like. I am human and that's amazing, this is the most important thing

Oh fucking absolutely.

I generally like to think Cybertronians would see us the way we see snails: small, fragile, disconcertingly sticky and soft, with hard structures in weird places, and it leaves them divided on whether we're cute or just kinda gross.

But even if you DO think they're gross, like. You ever seen an ugly snail? Of course not. Because we don't look at them like that, we aren't paying attention to if theyre too fat or too scrawny or if their eyestalks are too short or if their shell's not a good color. They just look like snails. None of it looks "wrong" unless they're, like, injured or something.

And to those that think us cute, they're not going to see the inherent variation in our species as anything but beautiful. How wonderful it is to be a soft little creature with traits that are uniquely mine, and how wonderful it'd be for an alien to study every variation I have with nothing but love in their spark.

Context:

Back in September, 2012, I came upon an online pamphlet titled "Living With C.P." from The Ontario Foundation for Cerebral Palsy.

And in the middle of the pamphlet was a paragraph that was just two (moderately long) sentences.

The Game:

It's a one-question multiple choice quiz. I'll give you the first sentence, and you pick the sentence that you think comes next. Because it's a long sentence, and I'm not sure it'll fit in Tumblr's poll fields, I'll write each choice out in full, marked "1," "2," "3," "4," and "5," and paraphrase in the poll itself. Okay?
