Someone on a politics-blog I go to has been expressing genuine suicidal ideation over the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump and everyone else on the board has been trying to talk them out of it. They seem to hope that something will stop him at the last minute, but they say that if he's put in the Presidency on Jan. 20, they're checking out, because they just can't take the world anymore. Today, on a thread where they were talking about this... I started sharing Rem. Like, I ganked one of the pages from Trigun Maximum 7, where she's telling Vash "Don't say you'll die! Let's walk together!" and I linked Trimax 7, Chapter 2 on Trigun Manga Overhaul and gave them a little context (trying to explain what was going on for people unfamiliar with Trigun in the simplest terms possible). It's a section of the manga I often re-read. It speaks to me on a deep level - as in, it helps with my own struggles. I've shared with this person my personal stories of dealing with being in dark places and getting up again. I've shared with them my desire to fight, and to just...exist to be a PEST to MAGA. I'm urging "The Orange Cat Turd is NOT worth it." And... I'm sharing Rem?

3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year That Alfira Scene (Chapter 10 of Aria of Will). It can be really challenging to write your own version of a pivotal scene from the main canon, but I think more than any other key scene I've incorporated that I managed to make this one uniquely horrifying.

7. longest completed fic you wrote this year Troubled Skies, clocking in at 20,298 words.

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write Distillation. There is absolutely no question about it. I'd never written anything even vaguely spicy before this year, and somehow not only have I written four Explicit fics, this one is 6k of monsterfucking.

Though if I'm really being honest...I didn't expect to write ANY fic this year. Or get back into fandom on any level. I've written more fic in 2024 than I have from 2008-2023 combined.

24. favorite fic you read this year This is a loaded question and you know it! According to my magic reading spreadsheet I've read over 600 fics this year and rated 132 of them as Five Star. I picked one from every month, but this was genuinely hard considering how many fics I've loved this year. I should probably start a rec blog or something.

January: Open Me Up by @what-immortal-hand-or-eye. Trigun, Vashwood. I had Feelings. And I can't even pretend that the formatting didn't have a heavy influence on my own writing style.

February: Disco at the End of Time by Sarielle. Disco Elysium, Harry/Kim. Third part in a trilogy that I wholeheartedly recommend to EVERYONE, even fandom blind.

March: Whatever Happened to Jack Zimmermann? by ronandhermy. Check Please, Jack/Kent. Everyone here should already know I'm a sucker for atypical formatting and this one grabbed me.

April: The Hearts and Minds of Evil Men series by DoubleYouTeeEff. BG3, TavTash. Ricco has lived rent free in my brain for 8 months and doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast.

May: Breathe by @picathartidae BG3, Durgestarion. It's still going and it's always a delight when I get a subscription email for it.

June: Letters by mycolalia. BG3, Durgetash (ish). An epistolary that also uses the endnotes as part of the fic. Its FASCINATING.

July: The Diamond by @bharv BG3, Gortash/Lady Jannath. 6.5k of politics and transactional relationships...all inspired by a single note in BG3.

August: Force Immunity by @allconsumingrot BG3, Durgetash. I've reread it uhm. several times this year.

September: Reunited by @vialae BG3, Durgetash. I'm a sucker for fics about them attempting to reconnect after the brain damage, and the realization that Durge is no longer quite who they used to be, but this one hit me harder than most.

October: Taste of Bhaalspawn by @drones-art. BG3, Durgetash. My weird kinks are showing and I'm not sorry. This one bluescreened my brain.

November: in his voice i heard decay by @baronvontribble Fallout 3&4, Harkness/Sole Survivor. I'm admittedly a few chapters behind current because I've been busy with moving, but I was so excited I practically threw up when I saw that he was writing about Ted again.

Haven't had a chance to read much of anything in December yet because my entire life for the last 2 weeks has been unpacking boxes and building flatpack furniture.

I also did some annual rereads of personal favorites that will never not be recs. Specifically

The Way of All Flesh by @supaslim Fallout: New Vegas, Gen. I've reread this series every 12-18 months for the past decade and whenever I'm not reading it, it's always in the back of my mind haunting me like an intrusive thought.

And now that I've taken the time to try to choose a fic for every month, I'm now mad I had to choose. So yeah. I'm gonna make a rec blog. 💀

I keep seeing these blogs on my dashboard despite having blocked them a long time ago, so it seems to me either people in the Trigun fandom are ignoring the issue or they remain unaware of this.

This is a non-exhaustive list, A.K.A I don't have enough spoons for this but I need to say something, about the blogs @/trigunfanart and @/takineko-arts, whose owner is @/takineko as it can be easily verified by going though the notes of this post (click to 1) and this other post (click to 2).

Trigunfanart/takineko first came to my attention as I heard months ago she was harassing Trigun artists from the Asian side of fandom in Twitter until they deleted, but I quickly realized it didn't end with harassment of other fans over fan-art.

CONTENT WARNINGS. Expect to see under the readmore everything you could expect from extreme bigots and conspiracy theorists. There's a really fucking good reason I'm making this post.

As she doesn't do much of an effort in hiding her views, you don't need to dig much to realize this: Takineko is a proud Republican, with all the views you could expect from her as such. Pro-life, anti-LGBTQIA+, racist and anti-semitic stances, but not only that; she's also a heavy supporter of plenty of conspiracy theories, including but not limited to to COVID related ones or denial of climate change. There's enough I genuinely can't give you all content warnings, besides that "it's the whole repertoire of alt-righters".

Searching through the #blog or #politics tags will give you a quick idea. 9/11? COVID? New World Order? U.S election fraud? George Soros? Whatever you can think of it's there, but here are a few examples.

Not Tumblr related as as I said, I first found her through Twitter, so here are some more.

I'm not here to educate anyone as to why plenty of this is straight up fascist rethoric. Do what you will with this information but, with this out after keeping it to myself for months because I didn't want to be told I was "starting drama", I'm going to assume that everyone who is being buddies with Takineko also shares her viewpoints, as per this post, and therefore will act accordingly.

I wanted to share this drawing I made of Vash from Trigun last year for a while now. It’s another one of my favorite drawings. And other than that, this was actually the first time I ever drew Vash. I’ve been a fan of Trigun since 2015 when I first got into anime, and it's even the show that made want to watch more anime, and I never really thought about drawing him until I first heard about Trigun Stampede around Summer last year, which I guess is strange since Vash is one of my favorite characters and biggest fictional crushes, you’d think I would have drawn him sooner. Though there are a lot of things I’m a fan of that I haven’t made fan art of but that might change in the future. Either way, I heard about Trigun Stampede last summer, saw the trailer, was very existed, and I decided to finally draw Vash immediately after watching it. But you can tell which design I gravitated more thwarts when I decided to draw him. But it probably makes sense that I would draw the 1998 anime version of Vash first since this was my first piece of Trigun fanart ever and the 1998 anime was my first experience with this series and this character, so yeah, of course I'd want to draw this version of him first. So yeah, take that information however you want, as long as you're polite and respectful about it. Overall, Vash is great, I love this character, and you can all look forward to seeing more art of him and Trigun in general on my blog. What do you guys think?

I just want to say how much I am ENJOYING my new / revived old fandom! I mostly keep my fandoms to sideblogs now to keep them from being muddled up in too much randomness (or stray American Politics fandom-wranklings. The American Politics fandom has been WILD lately)! Anyway, I made a secondary sideblog for one of my fandoms, a very silly Askblog in the tradition of those animal-welfare blogs where people can ask species-experts if "cute animal videos" and pictures / interactions they spot are wholesome or cruel / sketchy . I made one for a fictional species where we have some worldbuilding, but it's all very loose in the various canons and I can largely make stuff up, fanfiction-style. It's been up for 3 days and I've already got over 100 likes/reblogs/various asks! The fandom is ENGAGED! (And it's been like a year since new material has been put out! - Actually, most of the material / base material is OLD - as in - made in the late '90s up through the '10s). For those who shared She-Ra and the Princesses of Power fandom with me, it's kind of like the clones, except I'd say that Trigun's Plants have a wee bit more worldbuilding around them. What I am really enjoying about this particular endeavor is that people in this fandom are very... chill? About each other's headcanons? There's no big collective consensus "how to detail out this species," nor is there stepping on each other's toes and accusations of stealing headcanons when people thought there was mutual sharing involved. I just answered an ask regarding a fandom somewhat-famous someone's OC Plant - just a character that does a cute thing related to one of the main character's favorite foods that is featured in some fanfictions. I just made up some programming-protocol junk off the top of my head and there's a lovely thread now. By the way, my Askblog features me pretending to be a woman in STEM canonical character that I enjoy writing fanfiction about to begin with. I also think that I am getting along well in this fandom because I'm less... personal? With most people in it. There's only one person in the fandom that I chat with / bounce fanfiction ideas back and forth with regularly. I'm not on any Discords (I erased my Discord account long ago. I hung out in a nice Spop com for a while, but the one Trigun place I was in got erased due to manager-being-busy-with-life and I just wasn't using it). The Trigun fandom is also large enough that while there are pockets of people who know each other, it's not one of those "everyone knows each other" fandoms. There are prevailing headcanons that I do not share / have unpopular opinions on, but there just isn't a lot of fighting. I also (because I have learned) am slow to "make friends" in fandom and all of my mutals are great people, but all a little at arm's-length. We aren't dumping our traumas and personal lore on each other. I think it also helps that it's a more mature fandom (in tone, the first anime is teen-stuff while the manga / second anime is VERY bloody and has complex themes) - and we all accept that if we like the villains in it - that we openly like serial killers and all-human-life-genociders AS CHARACTERS and that, no, we don't support that stuff in real life. No whining that "this teaches toxic relationships!!! OMG!" We all know that Knives is an utter toxic waste dump of a brother to Vash, haha.

My writing tends to deal with themes of identity, gender, sexuality, trauma, mental illness & sometimes suicide. Okay, Everything is Trigun. I was just reading this entry on a blog I regularly go to, Slacktivist. (American Progressive Christian / Lefty political blog). Here, author Fred Clark discusses fictional books and fictional entries in reference materials as copyright traps and how it relates to having a non-literal interpretation of the Bible. Here if you're interested in such things, but entirely skipable to my point. Trap Streets Mountweasels and Made-Up Words. He profiled a word I'd never heard of before - one of these trap-words, something that has essentially become a real word - for a made-up creature. ____________________

an entry for the word “jungftak” which is a fanciful invention, a “Persian bird, the male of which had only one wing, on the right side, and the female only one wing, on the left side; instead of the missing wings, the male had a hook of bone, and the female an eyelet of bone, and it was by uniting hook and eye that they were enabled to fly.” That entry is fictitious because there is no such bird. ------------------------

And here I go flashing back to the end of Trigun Maximum / ending episode of Stampede where Millions Knives and Vash the Stampede are flying locked in each other's arms with one wing each... Goddammit. And I idily wonder if Nightow was inspired by this fictional bird, but probably not, because it is so obscure and it's copyright-trap made up for English-language dictionaries.
