I've read your articles on your blog! I can't thank you enough for your extensive research, you have helped thousand of people into enlightment!
Curious though, you said on one of them that you aren't a fans of BM:W storyline. Care to elaborate why you dislike it?
Thank you for the kind words.
I have a number of problems with the story. The following is presented in no particular order:
The game continues a trend that I last noticed in the film Jiang Ziya (姜子牙, 2020): gods are the true villains. This just seems like an attempt to maintain the status quo of the CCP's institutionalized atheism (I'm an atheist by the way, just not anti-theist). Someone please correct me if you think I'm overreaching.
Wukong forsaking his Buddhahood makes no sense as his attainment of enlightenment is the culmination of his original story. The game spits in the face of his great sacrifices and efforts by making such changes. Also, Buddhahood is a state of being and not just a title that can be discarded.
Monkey's plan to remove the headband via reincarnation (or whatever you want to call it) just seems really, really convoluted.
The many changes to the original characters' established story arcs are unnecessary. For example, Red Boy "finishes" his discipleship under Guanyin and returns to being a dick. So dumb.

In honour of finishing my hellish academic semester, I present to thee:
A Brief Introduction to 'In Pursuit of Daybreak'
First things first: What is In Pursuit of Daybreak?
A post-apocalyptic fantasy reimagining of the story of Hyacinthus and Apollo! Set in a world thrown into chaos after the sudden disappearance of The Radiant God, it follows three sons of the Radiant as they try their best to bring light back to the world.
Sons of the Radiant? Meet the leading men!
Aristaeus: A pastoral god and eldest of the brothers. Due to having a strained relationship with his venerated father, he is not exactly eager to track him down and have him return to clean up his mess. After being tricked by Asclepius however, he has only one choice: protect his brothers at all costs.
Orpheus: The grieving bard and second son; with the wounds of losing Eurydice still fresh, all his songs have become bitter sorrow. Coaxed by Asclepius to help restore the beautiful world Eurydice loved, Orpheus embarks on this journey in the hopes of rediscovering himself after his greatest loss.
Asclepius: The world's best healer and the youngest son; he is intent on healing the world of its ailment for the sake of his wife and children. Though others might curse his father for abandoning the world to the beasts of Erebus, Asclepius knows better and he will cure this malady even if it costs him his life.
(Hyacinthus: The long-dead lover. Slain by The Radiant's hand, he is a vengeful wraith brought back by Asclepius' dark medical rites. He too wishes to find the Radiant - not for love's sake but for the sake of his burning wrath.)
Genre?
In Pursuit of Daybreak is a fantasy/drama piece with strong romantic themes. It also has themes of family, sacrifice, self-discovery and death.
Production Status
I've been working on this project seriously for about two years! Despite not being historical fiction, I worked very hard on research and development of the concept and characters to retain an authentic feel of the mythology and traditions they come from. I'm still in the process of writing the novel but I also want to get in the habit of speaking openly and confidently about my work, so I definitely also want to talk more and more about my children and their adventures.
Thank you very much for reading this :D Any questions or comments about the concept or my interpretations of these characters is warmly welcomed. Have a wonderful day <33

day 3 of 30 days of horror mythology: latawiec & latawica
a latawiec or latawica is the soul of a stillborn or aborted child. their name means “kite” in modern polish, and they are typically pictured as birds. usually they appear as black ones such as ravens. like most demons and gods in slavic myth, though, they are shape-shifters and can appear also as birds with a child’s face or as a human with the wings of a bird. although this myth differs with a myth told by east slavs.

"the michael kandel translation of "the witcher" short story can't hurt you!!"
the michael kandel translation of "the witcher" short story:
Tumblr media
#WE HERE IN K L O T H S T U R#the witcher books#[ Nobody liked that. ]#i like how the first two 'main' translations (like published for mass market circulation ones i mean)#were like 'no we can't call it a strzyga... no no...'#(maybe like: 'the english readers won't understand...')#and then when the game and book hit (i.e. both beginning with geralt fighting the striga)#everyone was like 'whoa that striga was really cool'#idk idk enough about it yet to say anything definitively#but my experience and all the other reviews and experiences i've read#from other anglophone readers with no prior exposure to polish or broader slavic myth or culture#has been just like: 'whoa i never knew about that... that's really unique and cool'#and on the flip side. originally witcher gained popularity in part because of the familiarity of the fairy tale#and so despite that witcher in general takes a lot of everything from across europe#if i may just summarize it really obtusely and without taking the precaution of nuance and all#although the first two translations were very much intended to feature polish writers and writing#in the way of the actual translation it feels like they tried to diminish its 'polishness' for the english reader#like for example in chosen by fate itself there are no diacritics (though idk maybe that was a lack of capability of the printing press)#it FEELS like that i'm not saying it was intentional but#for example when you don't say 'leshies' and instead say 'bugbears' that feels like diminishing it#but then later when the witcher's quote-unquote 'polishness' is allowed to come through clearer#then it actually is part of why english audiences were like whoa this is interesting i like it :)#you know real-life events are stories too. and i feel like this is a story with a good moral: 'be yourself'#this is also one of the prime subjects where i disagree with sapkowski lol#because re: 'death of the author' theory type stuff. authors cannot control how their works are interpreted by their audiences#works get interpreted on their own fortunately or unfortunately#so though i think it would be misled to engage with the witcher as if its ONLY good quality is its 'polishness'#i think that also it should be acknowledged how its unique take on culture made it appealing to both domestic and foreign audiences#i think where the problem lies is when we believe it can't be both polish and a blend of multiple cultures and traditions#because like yeah. author is an arthurian weeb

does anyone want an explanation on how mickey and oswald were made [mostly in my stories but also as my headcanon for most of his apperances I have]
cuz I personaly subscribe to to the idea of them just not having parents at least not biological ones be it in "they didnt raise them" way or "they straight up don't have parents at all lmao"
[since none are shown through existance of mickey in any shorts exept for chrismas special
Tumblr media
theres few mentions there and there in comics and a brief mention of mickeys mother in mickeys suprise birthday party but all those are pretty eh you will forget those unless youre already activley thinking about them]
the version I have in mind wasn't with these brief mentions in mind but it can still work with them explanation being mickey sometimes referred to older toons as "mom" or "dad" and stopped doing that after he grew up a bit and realised those weren't just nicer versions of "ma'am" and "sir" sometimes the term simply still slipped out on accident because of the habit

The image of the "winged imp with laughter that causes insanity" skrzak that was spread in the English-speaking community is false. That description was directly taken, nearly word-for-word, from the appendix bestiary of "City of the Gods - Starybogow", a fantasy fiction anthology, and posted on Wikipedia. From May 2017 to July 2022 said description was being frequently sourced, and despite clear discrepancies, this was not discovered until August 2022.

OPI's naming of these bothers me, but I can't put my finger on why.
Is Fiyero's blue because of his diamond tattoos? and Munchkinland's yellow because of the Yellow Brick Road?
...then where are his diamond tattoos in the film? and wasn't the Yellow Brick Road torn up at some point after Nessa isolated Munchkinland? (Maybe I'm making up that last bit, but I'm 99% sure Munchkinland got annexed in Wicked lore, so there was a push in the Country to tear the Road up brick by brick.)
Okay, then maybe the colors were picked from this map.
Tumblr media
...except Munchkinland (blue) is in the East. So this map is (infamously) inversed.
I'm not buying these because I don't wear nail polish so I'm not exactly complaining. I just have Questions for Marketing, is all.

polish mythology: the legend of sir twardowski and the devil
the legend about sir twardowski and the devil is about a signed pact between the devil and nobleman sir twardowski in the 16th century. according to the pact, the nobleman had to give his soul to the devil in exchange for wisdom and supernatural powers. reportedly, the pact contained a stipulation that said that the soul of twardowski can be collected exclusively in rome. therefore, the crafty nobleman could try out his newly magical persona without paying the price as long as he didn’t go to rome. however, the devil was even more than sir twardowski so, one day, he tricked him and made him visit an inn that was named rome. next, sir twardowski had to face the devil and his inevitable tragic fate. the nobleman was forcibly stranded on the moon forever.

Slavic myths about the creation of the world
Tumblr media
The World Tree
The Slavic World Tree is an oak, a sacred tree that is incredibly important throughout Slavic mythology. At its roots is Nawia, the realm of the dead/underworld. Here, the god Weles (Veles) dwells. The trunk of the tree is Jawia, the realm of the living. And among the branches is Prawia, the realm of the gods, ruled by the thunder god, Perun.
It used to be at the beginning of the world –
Then there was no sky or earth,
No sky nor earth but the blue sea,
And in the middle of the sea on oak
Two pigeons were sitting.
Two pigeons on an oak tree
They held such a council,
Happy debated and cooed:
How can we create the world?
We will fall to the bottom of the sea,
We'll bring out the fine sand
Fine sand, blue stone.
We will sow fine sand,
We will pick up the blue pebble.
From fine sand - black earth,
- icey water, green grass.
From the blue stone - the blue sky,
Blue sky, bright sun,
Bright sun, bright moon,
bright moon and all the stars
Tumblr media
Białobóg I Czarnobóg
In the beginning, there was nothing but the sky, the sea, the God (Białobóg) who sailed by boat and the devil (Czarnobóg) emerging from the sea foam, who sat down to God. The idea of creating the Earth was suggested to God by the devil, who could not do it by himself alone. The devil immersed himself and brought out a handful of sand from the bottom. God threw it on the water and created the beginning of the Earth so thin that they both barely fit on it. God and the devil inhabited the Earth, the devil thought to push the sleeping God into the water, but he contributed to the expansion of the land from the side of God, from the east and from his own side, from the west. Both creators started a dispute that ended up with God going to heaven and knocking down the devil, who also went there, by lightning into the abyss.

The Cosmic Egg
Rod created the magical golden egg. The crust broke and out of the egg left Svarog, Lada and Chernabog. Svarog married Lada and then fell asleep. During his dreams, he saw the entire world, the perfection of it, its beauty and he didn't want to wake up. His wife desperately wanted him to open his eyes again so she gave birth to everything he dreamt of. While she was doing that, Chernabog silently watched. He grew envious of Svarog's beautiful world to be and he sat out to destroy it. But then Svarog woke up and threw him away.
He then stood marveling the perfection of the world. He decided to come to the centre of the world where he found the white stone Alatir. He decided to turn it into his forge. He created more weapons to fight Chernabog if he was to return.
And, oh, he was. But now as a dragon with hundreds of heads and an iron tail. Svarog couldn't fight him alone so he forged more gods to help him. The first one was Dazhbog, the god of Sun. Then Stribog the god of wind. And finally, Semargl, the god - dog of fire.
Combined together, the powerful gods defeated dragon Chernabog and used him as a bull. Namely, Svarog forged a plow and the gods made Chernabog pull it. The large canyon he made was the border that separated the world. The world where gods live is Prav and the dark realm of Chernabog is Nav. The only thing that connects them is Kalinov bridge which will later be used by souls who passed away.
The gods decided to move up and live in the Sky. So they made Lada give birth to a magical Oak, the world tree. Oak's branches were holding the sky, its trunk became Yav, the visible world and its roots grew down to Nav enabling evil things to climb up to Earth and Heaven just to fight gods in desperate need to continue the mission of Chernabog.
