Old Hollywood actress Frances Farmer being carried away by police after having a psychotic episode in a courtroom and then showing attitude in the police station in 1943 is still such a Mood. I think all of us hysterical anti-authoritarian girlies can relate.

Frances was just a woman ahead of her time. It was the 40s and she was a Communist with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. That’s literally just every millennial girl nowadays. No wonder Paramount called Frances "the star who would not go Hollywood," and emphasized her "eccentric" fashion tastes.

Director William Wyler famously said, "The nicest thing I can say about Frances Farmer is that she is unbearable." She was charged with drunk driving in Santa Monica, then when her agent shipped her off to Mexico City to film a movie, she was arrested there for drunken disorderliness.

1943 was an especially bad year, as she was accused of assaulting a studio hairdresser, not paying off her legal fines, and running down Sunset Boulevard topless after getting into a brawl at a bar. Police went to her hotel and dragged Frances out naked after she refused to comply.

When asked about her drinking habits, Frances told the judge: "I put liquor in my milk ... in my coffee and in my orange juice,” and admitted to drinking Benzedrine. The judge sentenced her to 180 days in jail, and she responded with knocking down a policeman and bruising another, along with a matron.

Frances sprinted to a phone booth to call her attorney, but was subdued by the police. When they carried her away, she shouted: "Have you ever had a broken heart?"

Frances was then taken to LA General Hospital and diagnosed with "manic depressive psychosis, probably the forerunner of a definite dementia praecox."

In May 2022, a former Loveland, Colorado police officer was sentenced to prison for assaulting Karen Garner, a 73-year-old woman with dementia, during a June 2020 arrest.

Austin Hopp was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections with three years of mandatory parole. He will also not be allowed to work in law enforcement anywhere in the future. 

Hopp accepted a plea agreement in March 2022, which allowed him to plead guilty to an amended charge of second-degree assault, a Class 4 felony, despite strong opposition from Garner's family. Hopp's original two felony charges and one misdemeanor charge were dismissed as part of the agreement. The plea agreement meant Hopp's potential maximum sentence dropped from 30 years in prison to eight.

A 91-year-old woman has reportedly fallen victim to a seemingly random attack in San Francisco’s Richmond District.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Thursday, according to ABC7 News reporter Dion Lim, who spoke to the victim’s daughter.

Just two minutes after the victim left her 47th Ave. home, a man allegedly came “out of nowhere,” punched her and knocked her into a concrete planter bed.

The brutal attack was caught on surveillance video.

“I cried when I saw it,” the victim’s daughter, identified only as “F,” told Lim.

The victim, who required three stitches to her injuries, has been suffering from dementia, according to Lim.

“It was a blessing and a curse she forgot about what happened later that night,” the victim's daughter added.

Lim said San Francisco police arrested Romeo Lorenzo Parham, 39, later that afternoon on charges including elder abuse.

Parham is said to have out of court warrants.

The incident occurred just before San Francisco officials announced a new response protocol to hate incidents in the city, which Asian Americans have seen a 567% spike in between 2020 and 2021.

“Our different agencies who support not only criminal justice reform, who support pushing to prevent crimes in the first place, we also support that after those lines are crossed that there is a coordinated response to get to the bottom of the situation, so people are held accountable, and victims feel as though justice was served and they get the supportive services they need to feel safe in San Francisco,” Mayor London Breed said on Thursday.

Warning for violence and elder abuse.

In 2021, two police officers in Loveland, Colorado, arrested a 73-year-old woman with dementia. Bodycam footage shows them throwing her to the ground. They broke her arm. As she was crying, begging to go home, they locked her up and then shared the body cam footage with other officers while laughing about it.

If you watch the footage, it's disturbing, horrible, and enraging (I saw it on the news when it was initially reported).

The officers are now facing charges and the department is "educating" officers on dealing with people with dementia, but what about other mental illnesses? This shouldn't have happened at all if these people had any basic human decency or compassion.

When I was twenty I was almost shot by a police officer because of my mental illness. I was peeling bark off a tree on public property to calm my anxiety.

Two officers pulled up very quietly in a squad car while I had my back turned. They did not announce their arrival. When I noticed them approaching me by the sound of their footsteps, I was frightened and reached for my phone to record them. They thought I was going for a weapon and one reached for his pistol. I put my hands up.

They illegally detained me and took my ID to run a background check. The one who had started to draw his gun on me asked me if I’d had any thoughts of hurting myself or others.

My background check came up clean. They released me and told me I wasn’t doing anything illegal. I went to my car and bawled my eyes out, thinking about how I’d almost died for the crime of “weird behavior.”

Don’t give these pigs a registry of the mentally ill. They’re already trying to kill us for no good reason.

The Boy That Never Was - episode two

‘Robin’s behaviour grows more mysterious when she begins to surreptitiously Google a woman called Eva Doyle.’ IMDB synopsis.

Robin hasn’t got to irritating me yet (unlike Colin’s previous dramatic outings with annoying female lead characters) but there’s still time. Her brother gets himself into a spot of bother at the end of this one which I’m hoping doesn’t take us away from the main thread of the story which is about their dead(?) son.

There’s quite a lot of flashbacks which might vex some but they were okay and unlike those in Dead and Buried and The Killing Kind actually furthered the narrative and provided more context.

Colin is once again doing a good job of making me feel sorry for his character, despite Harry doing some stupid shit but given his fragile mental state I get it. Oh and no shock, he looks hot either as a carefree Bohemian style painter or rocking the lean mean shaven haired look of the traumatised parent.

However, I did eye roll at the idea this couple are have money worries, not living in that house they don't! However, that’s a common failing on TV and in movies, people living in places and you wonder how they can afford it based on what you understand of their situation. If he can remain a painter whilst she's the main breadwinner living in a place like that, this couple are not close to hard up.

Spoilery thoughts below.

Present day they’re in bed, Robin’s searching for the woman she saw on the CCTV, she seemingly knows her name - Eva Doyle. Cozimo phones Harry to say he saw Dillon, he must come and get him, then hangs up. Harry goes to Ollie to say he needs help to get to Morocco without Robin knowing. Initially he refuses but Harry reminds him that he knows about his past with drugs, it’s a shit move but it works.

Cozimo phones Harry to say he saw Dillon, he must come and get him, then hangs up. Harry goes to Ollie to say he needs help to get to Morocco without Robin knowing. He tells Robin the gallery called and has a spot for him. She’s about to do a big pitch for a job, before he leaves the next morning he hides his phone down the sofa. In Morocco it seems colder less warm and welcoming, his shaven haired look is a reminder he’s a different person now, he heads to Cozimo’s, can he take him to the woman with red hair? Cozimo heads off down the narrow back streets.

Next we cut to Robin who messages Ollie to say Harry has lost his phone, he tries to fob her off (poorly), she knows where he’s probably staying she will message the place. Naturally Ollie is crapping himself and heads off to see her.

In Morocco we find Cozimo on a beach, he’s clearly deranged. He tells Harry that Dillon is dead, suddenly his angry nurse who has tracked him down with another man scolds Harry for taking Cozimo out the house, they get into a shoving match, Harry wants to know what’s wrong with his friend. I would have thought it fairly obvious.

Back in Dublin, Ollie is around at Robin’s he confesses all, she’s panicking they need to go get him, it’s no good for his head, she tells Ollie she’s pregnant. Harry is back at Cozimo’s, the nurse is more friendly now, she explains he has vascular dementia, he talks about Dillon a lot even now, he even thinks he sees him sometimes, you can see Harry quietly stressing out.

Ollie says he will go and bring Harry back for her. Morocco at night in a bar, Fadoul (the police guy we saw in the first episode after the quake) is watching football with his mates.  Harry is there he gets into a row with him over not continuing the search for his son, and to no one’s shock he’s promptly arrested.

Ollie arrives and goes to Cozimo’s to ask about Harry, finds out he’s in jail, as he goes inside a bloke seems to recognize him. We get a flashback to a club where Ollie is buying drugs, he then leaves the club and gets accosted by police who find them and drag him off and lock him up. Harry spots him being arrested and calls out.

Present day, Harry is pissed off Ollie is there, he tells Harry to shut it he’s trying to get him out, he should be bloody grateful it's not his wife (yet). Ollie tries to bribe Fadoul who bats the money aside and walks off. No dice. Ollie phones home, NOW they have a problem. Robin arrives in Morocco, they head straight to a lawyer friend of hers, we find out that Harry stupidly picked a fight with Fadoul after the quake, filed a complaint against him and got the dude demoted. Wonderful! Now he’s getting his revenge. Trying to bribe him didn’t help but she can get him out.

Robin goes to see Harry and quite rightly she’s exasperated, she tells him she has to get him home, he tells her about Cozimo and seeing Dillon. She cries, she can’t do this all again, they need to put this baby first, she needs some air and goes outside, we then get a flashback of them all at Cozimo’s dancing. She’s watching Harry having a great time, she less so, Robin seems distant standoffish, leaning against the wall out of the way, he’s encouraging her to call in sick but she says her boss is over there so nope. She walks away as he carries on dancing, her boss is staring at her, Cozimo is watching all this, he looks concerned. Inference is clear, she was having a fling with her boss. He’s American and looks a bit like Harry but way less hot. The boss and Robin exchange words briefly on the balcony upstairs, he asks if she’s okay, they talk about Harry and how he always likes to have a good time.

Present day, she walks away from Cozimo’s door and back to the station, police guy is told by his boss to let Harry go, lawyer is there turns out she went to school with the police commissioners daughter. Whilst Harry is being released Fadoul warns him if he sees him again he will find a way to bust his arse back into jail. Yeah get the fuck out of there and go home you had a lucky escape!

Back at their hotel, they’re packing to leave, Harry wants to stay and look for Dillon, she begs him to come home, Cozimo had dementia, he lives in the past like Harry then stops herself, he finally relents, the fight has gone out of him, he’s ready to come home. Poor Harry, he looks so tired and dejected, okay yeah he’s been stupid and irrational but given the circumstances I understand why.

Oliie has taken the bags downstairs to get out the way, as he steps outside the hotel he gets caught by the bloke who saw him earlier and bundled into the back of a van by an accomplice which drives off. Seems like his past is catching up with him too and at a most inconvenient moment. What I want to know is why didn’t he just run back into the hotel? He stood a far better chance of escaping! This was kind of dumb and irritating, a sign of things to come? Hope not.

April’s head bumped against the brick wall. This would be going so much faster if Casey could use his phone. But there was too much cell interference at the stadium, they couldn’t get a single call out to him. Out of all of them, he had the best chance of finding Raph undetected. But, cast your nets wide, especially when you’re looking for a ninja. If it were just in Manhattan, then Raph would have been fine. But none of them were at all familiar with the underground on the other side of the river. Raph was running blind, and had no guaranteed safe escape back to the sewers. And with a crowd of humans that big…

“Dammit.” She grunted into the mouthpiece of the cell phone. “I’ve been listening to the police scanner all night. No mutant sightings, turtle or otherwise.”

<”April, this is Splinter. Have you gone to speak with the authorities?”>

“Yeah, the taxi just dropped me off at the precinct. I’m going to see if I can use my student press pass to get in and follow some cops around. If I hear anything about Raphael, you’ll be the first one I call, Master Splinter.”

<”April, this is Donnie.”> Her friend’s voice crackled over the line. <”Don’t wave around your press pass unless you have to, cops don’t talk to journalists. Even if they’re just for the high school paper. Just stick to the missing car story. If it goes south, call us and we’ll do the thing.”>

Mikey whined over the receiver. <”Aww. Why do you get to be the grandma? I wanted to be the grandma this time!”>

April chuckled. “It was your turn last time, Mikey. I gotta go before a cop sees me. I’ll text you as soon as I turn anything up.”

With a click, April folded up her cell phone and slipped it back into her yellow coat’s front pocket. She brushed a strand of red hair out of her eyes, and pushed her glasses up her nose. She took in a deep breath, and let it out. She put her hand on the handle of the front door of police precinct.

“If you’re trying to be a sneaky, kid, you’re not doing a good job of it.”

A woman’s voice, right behind her! April yelped, whirling around and putting up her fists in a stance that protected her face–and left her entire midriff exposed–as she tried to face her attacker for a fight. She scrunched her face up, ready for a Foot Clan attack.

“Relax kid. Unless you want to punch a detective.” The woman laughed. She hedld out a hand like sun-browned wheat to her, gently pushing down April’s balled up and useless fists.

The detective, a woman as dark and stormy as the clouds overhead with a long and wavy mane of black hair, folded her arms over her jacket and smugly smiled down at the lanky and gangly teenage girl. She had lean legs and a set to her jaw and shoulders that made her seem much taller than she actually was. She had a magnetic feel to her, some charisma that shook the ideas of a grandma with dementia and stolen cars out of April’s head and replaced them with meaningless, babbling words. 

April stammered over her words. “Grandma. Car. Stolen!” She spluttered out.

“Your grandma stole a car, or her car was stolen? Whichever excuse you’re going to make for being on the footsteps of a police precinct at eleven o'clock at night had better be a damn good one.”

“I… I’m a journalist for the school paper.” She forced out. “I-I have my student press pass and everything.” April holds up her school ID proudly, her yearbook picture smiling above her name and her treasured role in her school. “April O’Neil, Editor in Chief at Rob Paulsen High, Class of ‘04.”

“Cute. Detective Elisa Maza, 23 Precinct.” She clapped April on the back. “Aaaand you’re out after curfew.”

April stiffened her lip, her voice hard. “Am I under arrest?”

“You’re being gently encouraged to go inside and call your folks before you get arrested.” Elisa shrugged. 

“If I am not being detained, then I am free to leave.”

“Oh boy.” Elisa sighed, voice soaked with exhausted sarcasm. “Look here, a kid who passed her civics class. Good on you, I studied at Columbia. Great program. Now get inside the precinct and call for a ride home, or I will cuff you and then I’ll be your ride home. And trust me, whoever you live with isn’t going to be happy about it.”

April gnawed at her lip. “Alright, fine, I’ll go inside.”

“Good girl.”

“Don’t call me that.”

Inside the precinct, April kept her thumb on the dial of her scanner radio in her pocket, her bright yellow Walkman headphones jammed angrily over her thick, frizzy hair. She grumbled as she kept listening to static-choked voices repeat numbered codewords and cross-streets. More traffic stops. Expired license plate. Shooting on Canal Street, that turned out to be a car backfiring. Drunk driver. Sounded like the cops were bored tonight, which meant that April had struck out. She certainly hoped the Turtles were having better luck finding their brother than she was. For her? It seemed like tonight was a wash.

She’d called ‘Grannie Donna’ and explained that she knew it was eleven at night, and the Big Apple was a dangerous place for young ladies. She was safe at the 23rd Police Precinct, no she hadn’t been arrested, yes she was going to take the bus home, and yes she would love some pie.

April and the Turtles had developed their own codes to use when they may be eavesdropped upon. All of them had ‘grandma names’, or codenames. If she said she knew what time it was, it meant that everything was alright. If she apologized for waking them up, it was an emergency. If she said she’d take a taxi, it meant to meet her there after she’d given the all-clear. Taking the bus meant she’d go to them. If she asked for a ride, it meant to come quickly and stealthily. 

The bit about pie meant that she owed them a pizza for this. And that, she wasn’t looking forward to forking over.

“A kid loitering around a police station at 11 at night?” Officer Morgan blew over his coffee. “Sounds like a kid in trouble, or a kid looking for trouble.”

“Morgan, you know I’m no good with kids.” Elisa nibbled on her donut. “I mean, hell, I barely ever was a kid, what with chasing my brother and sister around and minding them. And this one is, what, Twelve? Thirteen? How old is the graduating class of ‘04?”

“Fifteen to sixteen. My son’s in ‘05.”

“See? You have kids her age, you should go talk to her.”

“You’re also a woman, and this is a young woman. Sorry, Detective, but rules are rules. Ladies talk to ladies unless they say otherwise.” Morgan chided her.

“Can I say otherwise?”

“Not on the clock.”

“Damn.” Elisa paused. “Wait a minute. Clocks.” She looked over at the oven timer in the precinct break room. 10:58. There was something that kid had said earlier on the phone to her grandma… “Hey, Morgan, when does the M-90 stop doing its routes past the precinct?”

“About ten. Why?”

Maza set her donut on the counter. “That kid isn’t taking the bus home.”

April’s backpack felt particularly heavy against her back as she started speedwalking away from the police precinct. She bit down every urge she had to mutter under her breath as she peered at the reflective outer edge of her glasses. 

April didn't actually need glasses. She had this pair's lenses half-painted with a coat of one-way mirror polish, which she’d borrowed from her school’s machine shop. She didn’t need them to see ahead of her; she used them to check over her own shoulder. 

She ducked into a basement entrance for some neglected office space, and quickly shrugged off her backpack. She squatted there in the dark, nose wrinkling at the vague odor of what she knew was human urine, and pulled out her phone to text her friends. 

> Struck out here at the precinct. Cop busted 

me for curfew, I had to bail.

< Yeah, we figured. We’ve been following 

the rooftops and sewers around the Giants

 Stadium. There was an upset in the crowd, 

and we saw something big fly towards it. We 

think it might be something to do with Raph.

> The game lasted that long?

< Wasn’t much of a game to watch. The 

other guys got 13 touchgoals in the second 

inning.

April snorted out of her nose, a smile creasing her eyes. She’d forgive him, the clueless genius that he was. Whether Casey would forgive this shocking lack of respect for the Sacred Institution of Football would remain to be seen. Besides, she was a casual Giants fan at best. She texted him again.

There was a long pause. Then, a reply popped up on her screen. Her phone buzzed in her fingers.

< Please, April, let us leave frickin’ Jersey. I 

need to wash the stink of petty mediocrity out 

of my socks. We’ll come to you. Be back in 

Manhattan in about an hour.

April burst out laughing at that. She closed her phone, and stood up, dusting herself off. She mounted the steps, and turned to keep going down the sidewalk and she nearly walked face-first into the arms of Detective Maza.

“Hi, kid. Did you miss your bus?”

April's brain didn't even process the decision between fight or flight. It picked for her, adrenaline springing into her legs and shoving her in a direction at random! Anywhere, anywhere away from here! The strap of her backpack caught on the handrail and the weight and momentum of her desperate dash caught the flimsy fabric and it ripped itself apart. The contents of April's backpack scattered across the sidewalk, right in front of the Detective's hawk-like glare. Her police codebook, her scanner radio, her rope and tool bag, all of it.

- Matilda was the only child born to louise and daniel, although she always craved for more. In her earliest years she begged for a sibling. She said silent prayers to a god she didn’t believe it and whispered it into Santas ear when december rolled around. She never got a sibling, no, instead her parents separated. 

- two houses, two homes, two kitchens, two phones. two birthdays, two christmases. it was FINE, but it made her sad. She wished so deeply for a nuclear family. Instead she got awkward handovers where her dad will rip her from her mothers arms and moan that she was a BITCH. 

- When Matilda was seven, her life was flipped on its head in the worst way. The divorced was being finalised and as a result, her Dad set fire to the home where she and her mother slept. He lost custody of Matilda and she was sent to live with her ageing grandparents.

- her grandfather was already living in a care home when she moved in, the dementia had set in some years prior, and her grandmother had said she was grateful he would never know the weight of grief over their daughter. They visited him three times a week, and life with her grandparents was slow but comfortable. 

- five years later, when Matilda was almost thirteen, her father was released due to a lack of evidence. He was not allowed contact with his daughter until she was 18 and could make the decision herself, but he was still always there. she could feel his eyes watching from afar. 

- When she was eighteen he became persistant. He would show up at her school, at the house, on street corners. Begging for her attention, and when she refused he would throw out threats to her life and her grandmothers life.

Former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, 92, filed a motion in a Massachusetts court claiming he is “legally incompetent” to stand trial for sex abuse charges, citing “significant, worsening, and irreversible dementia.”

McCarrick is charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14 relating to allegations that he sexually abused the teenager who was a family friend at a wedding ceremony in the 1970s at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

McCarrick, laicized by Pope Francis in 2019, held one of the highest offices in the Catholic Church and has been accused of serially abusing his priestly authority by sexually abusing minors and seminarians.

The state of Massachusetts told CNA that it wants an opportunity to examine McCarrick’s competency to stand trial.

McCarrick’s motion to dismiss the charges comes about a month after his legal team said a neurological exam of him was being conducted by Dr. David Schretlen, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse - Internet Crimes Against Child Unit arrested a College Park man this morning for possession and distribution of child pornography. The suspect is 47-year-old Patrick Wojahn.

On February 17, 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children notified the PGPD that a social media account operating in the county possessed and distributed suspected child pornography. The image and videos had been uploaded to the social media account in January of 2023. Through various investigative techniques, PGPD investigators discovered the social media account belonged to Wojahn.

On February 28, 2023, PGPD detectives served a search warrant at Wojahn’s College Park home. Investigators recovered multiple cell phones, a storage device, a tablet and a computer. Following additional investigation, PGPD obtained criminal charges against Wojahn and investigators took him into custody early this morning.

Wojahn is charged with 40 counts of possession of child exploitative material and 16 counts of distribution of child exploitative material. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.***

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A 31-year-old woman who admits to having sex with a 13-year-old boy and then becoming pregnant with his child, won’t face any jail time under a plea deal with prosecutors.

Andrea Serrano of Fountain was facing sexual assault charges after her arrest in 2022 but accepted this new plea deal to stay out of prison earlier this year.

Serrano gave birth to the baby boy after she admitted to having sex with the 13-year-old. The mother of the victim told 11 News she is not happy with the deal offered to a woman she says ruined her son’s life.

“I feel like my son is robbed of his childhood. Now he’s having to be a father. He’s a victim, and he’s going to have to live with that for the rest of his life,” the victim’s mother, who we are not identifying, told 11 News.

She questions why Serrano won’t face prison time.

“I feel like if she was a man and he was a little girl, it would definitely be different. They would be seeking more. I feel like because he is not a woman, they are not. → ‘Thank God for Bubba’: In the closing arguments of the Murdaugh murder trial—where now-disgraced Good Ole Boy Alex Murdaugh stood accused of murdering his wife and son—the prosecutor reminded the jury of one central figure to this alarming case: Bubba, the family’s golden retriever. Murdaugh swore he was nowhere near the dog kennels the night his son Paul and wife Maggie were shot, but it seems he was outfoxed by a dog. In a Snapchat video taken by Paul minutes before he and his mother were murdered, you can hear other voices in the background, including Maggie commenting that the dog might have a bird in its mouth. One of the voices was “100 percent” Alex Murdaugh, according to witnesses. Maggie and Paul were killed minutes later. 

When they played the video in court, Murdaugh began to cry. 

None other than O. J. Simpson predicted that Murdaugh would go to jail for stealing money, but “it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this guy beats this case.”

Maxwell says she was held in solitary confinement and that she was “malnourished,” which, I think for British former billionaire socialites, just means there wasn’t a full English and savory pudding every morning. Her attorney is saying that by the time of her trial, Maxwell was too exhausted and deflated to contribute to her own defense. 

Maxwell is now being kept at a correctional facility in Tallahassee in Florida—not quite the Palm Beach spread she’s used to—where she’s expected to serve out her 20-year sentence. There, the joke goes, she wakes up every morning shocked that she didn’t commit suicide. ***

In 2020, 4,507 stolen cars were reported in Milwaukee, giving it the 66th highest rate of motor vehicle theft among American cities. In 2021, the city surged to eighth on the list, as stolen car reports more than doubled, reaching a staggering 10,477. Two-thirds of the cars stolen in 2021 were Kias or Hyundais, despite the two companies accounting for just 7% of all cars owned in America. And Milwaukee is only the tip of the iceberg.

In 2022, Los Angeles saw an 85% spike in thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles. In St. Petersburg, Florida, more than a third of all car thefts last summer were linked explicitly to inspiration from TikTok videos. In Chicago, some jurisdictions saw month-to-month spikes in Kia and Hyundai thefts of over 800%. In November 2022, Atlanta Police reported that 40% of all car thefts in the city that year were of Kias and Hyundais. Kia Boys have popped up in Buffalo, Dallas, several cities in Ohio, St. Louis, Seattle, Memphis, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, San Antonio, the DMV area (DC-Maryland-Virginia), and Kent County, Michigan. An interesting perspective, but the many lower-to-middle class victims who’ve been economically crippled by Kia Boy thefts tend to come at this subject from a different angle than millionaire celebrity actors. As do the Kia Boy parents who, having higher hopes for their children than a life of crime, are publicly begging law enforcement to step up and hold them accountable. And as does the president of the NAACP’s Columbus Chapter — that notoriously tough-on-crime organization — who has asserted “we can no longer have our children just running rampant in our community committing crimes, it’s got to stop.”

Unsurprisingly, beyond the insulated world of the wealthy, the basic tenets of working class solidarity, child-rearing, and community stewardship dictate we should not accept a wave of juvenile car theft as a mundane fixture of American life. Records show 21-year-old Daniel Riley, who was out on bail awaiting a trial for a 2020 felony armed robbery, didn’t have a driver’s license when he was speeding, failed to yield, and caused the collision. ***

Riley had been set to go to trial last summer, but sources indicate Gardner’s office wasn’t ready or wasn’t willing to pursue prosecution. Instead, Riley was put on house arrest with a GPS tracker, which local news sources reported he violated more than 100 times in lead-up to the accident. 

Following a public outcry, including calls from Democratic officials for Gardner to step down, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey gave her an ultimatum: resign or be removed.

“This is about a quantum of evidence that demonstrates her failure to prosecute cases, failure to inform and confer with victims in cases, and failure to file new cases that are referred by law enforcement agencies,” Bailey said.

The Yakima Union Gospel Mission will serve anybody, but it furthers its religious purpose by maintaining staff who are likeminded believers that agree with and live out the mission’s Christian beliefs and practices, including abstaining from any sexual conduct outside of marriage between a man and a woman. The Washington Supreme Court, however, recently reinterpreted state law to prohibit religious organizations, like the mission, from only hiring individuals who share its religious beliefs, and now state officials are threatening the mission with significant penalties for using its religiously based hiring practices.***

In the wake of the state’s new interpretation of the Washington Law Against Discrimination, the mission has received applications from people who openly disagree with, or are hostile to, its religious beliefs on marriage and sexuality. To avoid being penalized by the state, the mission recently removed an online employment posting for an IT technician, refrained from posting an operations assistant position, and has paused hiring for those two positions.

Former U.S. Army Soldier Sentenced to 45 Years in Prison for Attempting for Murder Fellow Service Members in Deadly Ambush

A Kentucky man was sentenced today to 45 years in prison for attempting to murder U.S. service members, providing and attempting to provide material support to terrorists, and illegally transmitting national defense information.

Ethan Phelan Melzer, aka Etil Reggad, 24, of Louisville, pleaded guilty to attempting to murder U.S. service members, providing and attempting to provide material support to terrorists, and illegally transmitting national defense information on June 24, 2022, before U.S. District Judge Gregory H. Woods, who imposed today’s sentence. According to court documents, Melzer planned a jihadist attack on his U.S. Army unit in the days leading up to a deployment to Turkey and sent sensitive details about the unit — including information about its location, movements, and security — to members of the extremist organization Order of the Nine Angles (O9A), a white supremacist, neo-Nazi and pro-jihadist group.

“Today’s sentence holds Mr. Melzer accountable for an egregious and shameful act of betrayal against his own military unit and his country,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department’s National Security Division. “The Justice Department will use all available resources to disrupt and bring to justice those who would aid foreign terrorist organizations and use violence to harm our men and women in uniform or any American anywhere.”

*** America has a written constitution detailing citizens’ rights. It has two legislatures, the House and the Senate, and separate state elections and governments that further buffer citizens from federal power. Israel has none of those things. We have only one legislature, it’s controlled by the governing majority, and the single brake on majority power is the court. This is the only force that can stem the current paroxysm—and so it’s this force that’s now being removed, in what is being misunderstood by some as a simple “legal reform.” What’s actually happening is a takeover of Israel’s independent judiciary by the most extreme government in our history. 

There is a good case for reform that would set the limits of court power with broad consent. That’s not what’s happening. 

The new system, which is supposed to be set in law by next month, will allow the government to select judges and overrule the court’s decisions. If the reform passes and the government decides that there will now be elections every 10 years, for example, or every 20—there will be no force to rule otherwise. Israel, which has rightly prided itself as being the only democracy in the Middle East, will move closer to the model of Hungary or Turkey than of America.

Israel’s stable and internationally respected court system is one of the reasons for our economic miracle over the past few decades. An ex-medical correspondent for an NBC-affiliate station based in Los Angeles received no jail time after he pleaded no contest to asking a 9-year-old girl to send him “sexy and private” nude photos, according to a report.

Dr. Bruce Hensel, 74, apologized to the young victim’s family and even hugged her father — who is an acquaintance — as he entered his plea in an LA courtroom on Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported.***

The Emmy-winner was arrested in 2019 after he asked the girl for the sexually explicit photos through an online messaging app.

Newly revealed surveillance footage from Jan. 6, 2021, shows two Capitol police officers escorting Jacob Chansley, the be-horned so-called “QAnon Shaman” who has come to symbolize the riot, through the halls of the Capitol and to the very door of the US Senate.

The footage aired on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Monday night shows the officers closely following Chansley as he wanders the corridors of the Capitol, bare-chested and wearing face paint and a luxuriant fur hat with Viking horns.

“Virtually every moment of his time inside the Capitol was caught on tape,” says Carlson, who was granted exclusive access by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to 40,000 hours of surveillance footage from that day inside and around the Capitol, which has never been seen before by the public.

Crime costs

*** Walmart is closing its last two locations in Portland just months after CEO Doug McMillon warned that rampant thefts would lead the company to raise prices or close stores in some locations. Residents in the neighborhoods of those two locations will have to shop elsewhere, and 580 employees will also be affected by the closures.

Violence has also caused trouble for businesses, with one real estate developer and lifelong resident of the city preparing to move out after discovering his office was riddled with bullet holes. And stealing has been a problem for residents outside of business closures and departures, with 2022 seeing a record increase in car thefts.

Portland police are now finally taking this seriously. Officers are conducting anti-shoplifting “blitzes,” arresting 64 people in a December operation that led to 10 stolen vehicles being recovered alongside three firearms and almost $9,000 in stolen merchandise. A February operation led to another 40 arrests, with officers recovering $2,000 in merchandise and handing out 32 felony charges and 28 misdemeanors. *** Francisco Severo Torres, 33, was charged with one count of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon. Torres was arrested last evening at Boston Logan International Airport and, following an initial appearance today before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Dein, was detained pending a hearing set for March 9, 2023. 

According to the charging documents, on March 5, 2023, Torres was a passenger aboard a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston. Approximately 45 minutes prior to landing, the flight crew received an alarm in the cockpit that a starboard side door located between the first class and coach sections of the aircraft was disarmed. Upon inspection, a flight attendant found that the door’s locking handle had been moved out of the fully locked position – approximately a quarter of the way towards the towards the unlocked position – and that the emergency slide arming lever had been moved to the “disarmed” position. The flight attendant reported this to the captain and flight crew after securing the door and emergency slide. 

In subsequent discussions, a fellow flight attendant reported that he had observed Torres near the door and believed Torres had tampered with the door. A flight attendant then confronted Torres about tampering with the door, to which he allegedly responded by asking if there were cameras showing that he had done so. According to court documents, the flight attendant then notified the captain that they believed Torres posed a threat to the aircraft and that the captain needed to land the aircraft as soon as possible.  

Shortly thereafter, it is alleged that Torres got out of his seat and approached the starboard side door where two flight attendants were standing in the aisle. One of the flight attendants saw Torres mouthing something that he could not hear. Torres then allegedly thrust towards one of the flight attendants in a stabbing motion with a broken metal spoon, hitting the flight attendant on the neck area three times. Passengers then tackled Torres and he was restrained with the assistance of flight crew. An attorney at the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights group known for labeling conservative and Christian nonprofit organizations as "hate groups," was arrested Sunday on terrorism charges after allegedly taking part in a riot where agitators threw objects, including Molotov cocktails, at a police training center near Atlanta.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Sunday arrested Thomas Webb Jurgens, according to Dekalb County Jail records. The name and occupation of the 28-year-old appear to match that of a staff attorney with the SPLC. He is facing one charge of domestic terrorism.

Jurgens was among 35 people detained after a violent clash between protesters and police at a construction site for the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.***

Disbarred Denver attorney Steve Bachar skipped his sentencing hearing in his felony theft case Friday and is now wanted on a warrant, court records show.

Bachar, 57, was due to be sentenced for defrauding an investor in his business of $125,000.

It was not clear Monday why Bachar, who was out on a $25,000 bond, did not show up to be sentenced in Denver District Court. A call to his cellphone went straight to voicemail Monday and he did not return a message left seeking comment.

A Denver eating disorder doctor who has helped patients with anorexia nervosa obtain aid-in-dying medication is jolting the psychiatric community and sparking an emotional, national debate about the ethics of prescribing lethal drugs for people with mental illnesses.

Dr. Jennifer Gaudiani, an internal medicine doctor who specializes in eating disorders, published a paper in which she describes the deaths of three patients with anorexia nervosa. One 36-year-old woman died after ingesting the lethal doses prescribed by another doctor, with Gaudiani serving as consulting physician. Another 36-year-old woman died of severe malnutrition on the same day she planned to take aid-in-dying medication prescribed by Gaudiani.

In the paper, published in February in the Journal of Eating Disorders, Gaudiani advocates for allowing patients who are dying from anorexia to end their lives on their own terms. She writes that, although anorexia doesn’t have delineated levels of severity like cancer, which has stages of progression and a terminal phase, it can be brutally lethal. Waggett said he’s lost three retail tenants, including an Ace Hardware store, because of crime and vagrancy. Employees are too scared to come to work, he said.

Waggett is now paying $500,000 a year for private security to patrol the property and try to deter vagrancy. But he said he regularly sees excrement, prostitution and open drug use. And his hired security is sometimes too frightened to confront drug dealers.

“We’ve had a very laissez-faire, permissive attitude and people don’t understand the economic consequence to the city,” Waggett said.

“We need leadership with a capital L: We need leadership not only in enforcing the law and addressing the three-pronged problem of homeless and drug use and mental health,” he said.***

A 22-year-old man is behind bars after entering a California high school and sexually assaulting at least three teenage girls on Monday.

Burbank police said Patrick Nazarian, of Glendale, was arrested for kidnapping and sexual assault after he allegedly entered Burbank High School around 9 a.m. Monday.

Investigators determined he entered the school through an unlocked door in the student parking lot.

Nazarian is accused of approaching a 14-year-old girl, who was in a bathroom inside the school, and sexually assaulting her. What drug users and people who work with them in Philadelphia talk about is the smell. The smell of rotting flesh from open infected wounds.

Some users say they feel ashamed of the state of their bodies, but more feel a sense of urgency. They need help. The wounds are killing them.

“It is absolutely horrible. That’s the reality, though,” said James Sherman, known as Sherm around Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, where he once used drugs and where he now tries to help those still on the streets.  

The need for help has become more urgent over the last three years, as the animal tranquilizer xylazine, also called tranq, has become a bigger part of Philly’s street fentanyl supply. Xylazine can cause large wounds that won’t heal, no matter where you inject it and they can appear even if you snort it or smoke it. Infections are common and can even lead to amputations.  

“Some people aren’t ready to see that yet,” Sherman said. “It’s literally people’s flesh rotting, and you can smell it.”  ***

Tranq made its mark on Philadelphia’s street drugs about three years ago. That’s when doctors, users and those who try to help them saw a difference. 

Dr. Joseph D’Orazio, an emergency physician and addiction medicine specialist at Temple University Hospital, said patients started to have major wounds that were different from typical injection drug use. “These wounds were a lot deeper, a lot more severe, there were big necrotic areas,” he said. “They were deep down into tendons. Sometimes you can see the bones, and we were starting to see more patients that were requiring amputations.”  ***

Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to a Clermont home around 4:25 p.m. for a report of a child cutting another child on the throat, according to an affidavit obtained by FOX 35 Orlando.

Former New Orleans Police Officer Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting a 15-Year-Old Girl

A former police officer with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) was sentenced in federal court to 14 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old crime victim in violation of her constitutional rights.

According to the court documents, in May 2020, Rodney Vicknair, 55, while working in his capacity as an NOPD officer, escorted a then-14-year-old girl, who had been sexually assaulted by another man, to the hospital to undergo a forensic exam, also known as a rape kit. Vicknair gave the victim his cell phone number and offered to be her friend and mentor. In the months and weeks thereafter, Vicknair and the victim spoke on the phone and exchanged messages on Snapchat. Vicknair, while in uniform, often stopped by unannounced at the victim’s residence. Over time, Vicknair made comments to the victim that were sexual in nature.

On the night of Sept. 23, 2020, Vicknair arrived at the victim’s house. By that time, she had turned 15 years old. He told her to come outside and get into his vehicle. She got into the passenger’s seat while Vicknair remained in the driver’s seat. Then, he locked the doors so that the victim could not leave. Vicknair leaned over toward the victim, and she feared for her physical safety. He then sexually assaulted the victim when he intentionally touched her genitals under her clothing without her consent. Clare was not the first woman with dementia to be subject to excessive force. In 2020, an 81-year-old begged for help while police arrested her with two sets of handcuffs.

Australian police tasered a 95-year-old woman at a regional aged care home yesterday. They claim that the woman had a knife and that verbal negotiations failed; the woman, however, is only 5'2", weighs only 43 kg, suffers from dementia, and uses a walker to get around, raising questions about whether the taser was the only viable option for police officers.

She's in a critical condition in hospital right now. Let's hope she recovers and the officers are punished for their actions.

A 73-year-old woman is suing the Loveland police for breaking her elbow, and other injuries. According to her lawyer, the woman suffers from dementia and aphasia, which makes communicating with her difficult. The police arrested her after receiving a report that she had left a Walmart without paying for an item. Its price was less than 14 dollars.

Set during that whole ride scene during The Vindicators. Rick’s drunken video confession ends up being a love confession and marriage proposal to Morty. Morty evaluates his feelings for Rick on the ride back. When Rick asks him what happened, Morty just smiles and says “yes”. He knows Rick doesn’t remember but he’s the smartest man in the universe, he’ll figure it out... eventually. BONUS: Million Ants comments that he senses a great deal of love and affection all of a sudden.

Summer POV. She sees the way they act, how they look at each other. How devoted they are to one another. They’re hopelessly in love and neither wants to admit it for the obvious reasons. In this infinitely cruel multiverse she doesn’t understand their hangups and why they’d deny themselves this shred of happiness. She wants them both to be happy, she really does. The day it finally happens she’s happy enough to cry.

Beth finds out about Rick and Morty. Instead of lashing out over the wrongness of it she turns on Morty, accusing him of stealing her dad away, calling him a slut, asking what was so special about him. Rick is stunned. Summer and Jerry run to them, Summer instantly getting between Morty and their mother, holding him close while he sobs into her chest. Jerry tried to pacify Beth, leading her away. Of all things Rick never expected Beth to accuse her own child of being to blame here. He was the adult, she should be angry with him. He leaves Morty with Summer, he needs to have a serious discussion with Beth about everything. NOTE: Beth is infatuated with Rick and is jealous of Morty. Rick has no such feelings for Beth and is in love with Morty.

In this dimension, Morty’s parents and sister died when he was six. Jerry’s parents had already passed so Morty has no one left to be his guardian except Rick. So Rick moves into the Smith household so he won’t have the uproot Morty’s life. Their relationship dynamic turns out quite different from other Rick’s and Morty’s because of it. For example, Rick is haggling over a deal in space, he’s being mean and aggressive about it. Then Morty wanders in just when Rick is about to get violent. Rick here’s Morty say “grandpa?” in a sweet little voice, not understanding what’s going on. Rick’s attitude does a 180, going into doting grandpa mode, saying “hi, sweetie, grandpa and his friend are almost done talking so go wait in the car, sweetheart”. As soon as Morty’s gone he reverts back to being violent. Basically, Rick only shows his doting grandpa side in front of Morty, he doesn’t want Morty to see his hyper aggressive side.

Evil Rick x Evil Morty. Possessive Protectivness. Morty hates Rick, but there was one good thing about him. Come hell or highwater, Rick wouldn’t let others hurt Morty. It becomes easy for Morty to manipulate Rick into getting rid of problems this way. All Morty has to do is tell him someone tried to hurt him and Rick will kill them no questions asked.

Past Non-Con & Child Abuse. During the S5 finale, Morty asks Evil Morty just what the hell his Rick did to him to make him hate Rick’s so much.
