Welcome to the Mad Doctor Appreciation Club!
I am the receptionist, Mr. [REDACTED]. I hope you enjoy your stay at our highly renowned club! ... What do you mean you haven't heard of it before? That's besides the point. I'll give you the rundown.
This club, located in this old hospital, is home to the most genius of individuals whose work has been underappreciated! From the old workers from the Heilwald Klinikum, to that mercenary medic over by the operating table, every one of our beloved members has been underappreciated for far too long! We allow outsiders to visit and marvel at their ideas from time to time, but there have been certain... Incidents. Pay them no mind. It will be fine. Not EVERY member is hostile, so you should be safe.
Here is our list of current members. We are very relaxed with what can make an honorary member, too. An honorary member just means that you have never had a medical license or doctorate's degree before, but still hold the spirit of a mad doctor. If there is anybody who you believe deserves to join, either as a member or honorary member, please write their name at the bottom of this paper, in the section called "comments".
MEMBERS LIST:
•Dr. Daniel Dickens from Angels of Death
•Every Doctor from The Heilwald Loophole (Dr. Randolph, Dr. Wolfram, Dr. Hauser).
•Nurse Anne, Nurse Heideltraut, Nurse Sabine from The Heilwald Loophole (honorary members: work in the medical field)
• Dr. Steinman and Dr. Suchong from Bioshock
•Tanner from Scrutinized
•Victor Frankenstein (honorary member: never finished medical school)
•Herbert West from Reanimator (honorary member: never finished medical school)
•Medic from Team Fortress 2 (Note from Receptionist: keep an eye on him. He's so crazy, his medical license was revoked... You don't want to know why. We just call him Medic to avoid confusion with another member.)
•Dr. Takuto Maruki from Persona 5 Royal (Note from Receptionist: he's convinced he doesn't belong here. We assure you, he does.)
•Dr. Alfred Drevis from Mad Father
•Johannes Mimir Faustus from Servamp
•Dr. Zed from Borderlands (he doesn't have a REAL medical license, but he still has one. So, he is counted as a normal member.)
•Edward Richtofen from Call of Duty Zombies
•Victor Veloci from Dinosquad (research still being conducted. He seems to disappear from time to time. Recent sightings of dinosaurs reported from members of club.)
•Dr. Colress from Pokemon Black and White 2
•Dr. Yung from The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon
•Blue Medic from Team Fortress 2 Emesis Blue (note from Receptionist: we call him Dr. Ludwig, Dr. Fritz, or Dr. L to avoid confusion with another member.)
•The Doctor from Dead by Daylight
•SCP 049 from the SCP Foundation
•Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs
•Dr. Gilbert Alexander from Bioshock 2
•Dr. Alto Clef from the SCP Foundation

Speaking of the movie events, it is interesting to think about which movies were reported on or who knows about the events:
The second movie affected the whole planet and was reported on.
The third movie also had reporters which apparently made big enough news to reach Kanto (or wherever Charizard Valley is located).
The only documentation of 4 ever and Heroes would be the arrest of three high ranking Team Rocket members.
Destiny Deoxys affected a whole city and The Rise of Darkrai affected a whole town, so those would make headlines.
Master of Illusions, Ash and Co tricked the main villain Grings Kodai into confessing his crime of city wide environmental damage on tape.
In the black and white movies a whole castle is moved, so if that wasn’t reported on then it would create loads of confusion for tourists who wanted to visit the castle.
Hoopa and the Clash of Ages is a similar situation to Destiny Deoxys and The Rise of Darkrai where the events affected a whole City.
Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel main villain Alva is a councillor, so his actions and his arrest for attempted mass murder would have definitely made the headlines.
As for the films post gen 6
The Power of Us has a city go through a whole crisis so that would definitely make headline news.
Koko/Secrets of the Jungle, Dr Zed would be in the news for both the environmental damage he caused and the double murder that was uncovered by the whistleblowers known as Jessie and James.
All other movies only Ash, his companions, and the handful of new friends Ash makes in those movies get to experience the events due to the events taking place somewhere remote, or conveniently no civilians discovering that legendary and/or mythical Pokemon are fighting in the middle of a large populated area.
The exception being the first movie where Mewtwo wiped everyone’s memories of the film’s events, thanks Mewtwo.
Wiping memories was the dumbest decision they could have made to reset Ash and friends to the status quo considering they already forget everything they went through whenever a big event happens

Honestly tho, Spinel's probably the best anime-original villain Pokémon's had. (Not counting the TRio, they're more comedic than they are a threat.) Most of the myriad poachers we've had over the years were pretty forgettable barring J, and she was more "overwhelming power and cool tech" than she was a schemer. (And her petrification gauntlet isn't even unique anymore thanks to that one dude from MPM) and most of the unique Team Rocket characters we've had were only around for a couple episodes, not really leaving time to get much of an impression from them.
There's a few good movie villains like Mewtwo and Molly, but they're more sympathetic rather than evil. Mewtwo is angered over being treated as someone's experiment and is trying to carve a place for himself in the world, and Molly is a kid who lost her family. But with the other evil movie villains like Kodai, Alva, the Iron-Masked Marauder, and Dr. Zed, we run into a similar problem of not being around long enough and it's mostly their tech over their intelligence that makes them as big a threat as they are. (I feel Alva was probably the smartest one? He was manipulating the prince, but it's an adult to a child. I feel Zed topped him in evil tho, since he successfully murdered two people-- I'm still pretty sure this is our first case of human-on-human murder in the anime--and thought he got away with killing an ACTUAL INFANT. When I first saw that, I was pretty shocked.)

With Spinel, every setback is a learning experience, and several of them weren't even things he could have anticipated, like Terapagos's pendant exploding out of his hand.
He's a pretty solid tactician tho, using his Magneton for interference with the Brave Olivine's systems and the RVT's phones, baiting Liko to come off alone and then mind-wiping her, ordering his Pokemon to attack from remotely so the group never sees his face (at least until he can't really hide anymore with the pendant going haywire), disseminating false information across the net to throw the RVT off the right trail, luring Friede into a trap because what are a couple kids gonna do in stopping them from getting Rayquaza (it was really more failure on the end of the other Explorers, he had successfully stalled Friede long enough at that point), and there's now his recent thing with getting Amethio expelled from the Explorers by framing him. (As a contingency plan in case his murder attempt against the kid failed.)
It's clear he's got his own agenda, and I'm curious to see what he's got in store for us now that one of Gibeon's most loyal pawns is gone, and now that Spinel is in Gibeon's ear 👀

Pokeani Villainy Ranking
1. Gen I (The Beginning)
Tumblr media
The Kanto series featured Team Rocket at their freshest, which included the Boss himself, Giovanni, as the Big Bad who took an active villainous role in the Mewtwo arc. While it took until Gen II and Johto for the arc to properly conclude, the OVA special itself is a sequel to the Kanto-based movie and is predominantly filled with Kanto Pokemon so I am including it here. We also had a number of memorable human side villains such as Damian, Nastina, Dario, Jessebelle, Keith, and of course Sabrina. Even some Pokemon aside from Meowth and Mewtwo got in on the villainy like the bizarre talking Gastly of Maiden’s Peak and the ancient demonic Gengar. And even the Orange Islands gave us some highlights beyond the TRio’s continuing antics, namely Butch and Cassidy with an even nastier scheme than before, the despicable Mayor of Trovitopolis, and the amoral yet charismatic collector Lawrence III.
2. Gen V (Black and White)
Tumblr media
Giovanni gets to be the Big Bad and take direct action yet again, and even when he isn’t present Dr. Zager and a uniquely serious and competent incarnation of the TRio are pursuing his agenda to conquer Unova. Team Plasma, especially Dr. Colress, is a formidable threat when they show up as well. There’s also Dirk from the OVA, the Genesect Army from the third movie, and side antagonists such as Leon the Dream Thief, Dr. Ferrara / Cryoganl Man and Team Vanilite, Seamus the sociopathic trainer, and the evil Chandelure and Litwick.
3. Gen VI (XY)
Tumblr media
This series gets as high as it is primarily due to Team Flare. Lysandre, Alain, Xerosic, Aliana, Bryony, Celosia and Mable, along with all the Team Flare grunts and Lysandre Lab scientists are such wonderful villains in the anime. The TRio are pretty hit-or-miss, sometimes credible and other times not, but this is alleviated due to the presence of other enjoyable evildoers across the series such as the evil Malamar, Dolan the smuggler, the haughy Princess Allie of Parfum Palace, Ninja Riot and Merilyn Flame, father/daughter crime duo Argus and Millis Steel, and the young Prince Raleigh of Azoth Kingdom who is manipulated by the cruel Prime Minister Alva. Gens V and VI, back to back, was really a good time for villains in the anime.
4. Gen VIII (Journeys)
Tumblr media
The TRio may have had the least screentime in this series and ran out of fresh material by the end, but for the most part they were solid as efficient but comical criminals. We also got Matori Matrix, as well as an alternate reality version of the TRio who were still under their serious Gen V characterizations. Team Galactic was far more efficient and interesting under Saturn than it was under Cyrus, the Macro Cosmos corporation headed by Chairman Rose made a solid arc villain, Ash’s Gengar had a delightfully villainous start, and Dr. Zed from the movie released in this series’ timeframe is one of the most horrifying and loathsome villains in any Pokemon media. Points off for that weaksauce, no-name Pokemon Hunter guy, though.
5. Gen VII (Sun and Moon)
Tumblr media
While the TRio ended up being far more like good guys than bad guys by the final year of this series, they had a great villainous run beforehand, with the creepy and hate-filled Mimikyu being a standout Pokemon for them. And Matori Matrix, under direct orders from Giovanni, were great human antagonists to close out the Poipole arc. The rest or more hit-and-miss, with Team Skull being great but not appearing nearly as often as they should have, Viren appearing too much and not really amounting to anything beyond broad comedy, Faba becoming more well known as a mainstay hero than as the arc villain he started out as, and Nihilego, Guzzlord and Necrozma being frightening, monstrous adversaries but not truly evil.
6. Gen II (Gold and Silver)
Tumblr media
The longer this series went on, the goofier and more harmless the TRio became, which was the start of their already dubious villain cred becoming a long-running joke. The worst part about this is that we get a lot of cool new Team Rocket members, plus Butch and Cassidy again, but seldom anything impactful is done with them, and they feel severely undercooked as a result. This is especially true in the case of Professor Sebastian and the silver-uniformed Team Rocket agents under his command. It feels like a story arc was begging to be told with these guys, yet it never is. Honestly, discounting the aforementioned Mewtwo arc sequel OVA that got packaged as three episodes of this series, the villainy in Johto peaked early with the triad of Molly Hale, Entei, and the Unown, none of whom are strictly even “villains” at all!
7. Gen IV (Diamond and Pearl)
Tumblr media
Team Rocket sucks in this series, and what’s worse is most of the other villains suck as well, including Team Galactic whose membership and motivations are so flat and uninteresting compared to their game counterpart and whose arc ends on a huge anti-climax. The best villains here are the loathsome Pokemon Hunter J and Grings Kodai (although some ironic enjoyment can be had with Zero and the evil Togepi), but Hunter J gets wasted by only appearing five times in a four-year series and dying in a situation unrelated to the main heroes, and Kodai ends up taking his monstrosity way too far to the point of discomfort.
8. Gen III (Ruby and Sapphire)
Tumblr media
Similar to Gen IV, Team Rocket sucks and so does everyone else. Teams Aqua and Magma are the most boring villainous team the anime has ever had; with the series’ movies being book-ended by associates of theirs who are honestly slightly better than them. And then who else, um....Rico the poacher? Colonel Hansen? That “Crimson Lightning” brat? Ugh, I guess that the Mirage Master or Mr. Mirage or whatever is the best villain we had this whole series.

Hey there! I've heard about a PMD&D campaign you're a part of with @azurityarts using the PokéRole system and its PMD module through their various art pieces and a few asks they answered. If you have time, I'd love to hear more about how that's been going, and what you think about the system!
Oh thanks for asking about it! I'd be happy to answer questions about the campaign I'm hosting right now, but for now I'll just give a general recap of what's going on for the players and what the plot currently is.
So the plot so far has been about Shadow Pokemon suddenly appearing, and the players trying to find who is responsible for their sudden appearance. Shadow Pokemon tend to be extremely aggressive and will typically attack non-shadows on sight (with a few exceptions).
The cause of the Shadow Pokemon outbreak came from one of their clients early in the game, when the group was acting as a sort of rescue team instead of investigating the Shadow Pokemon problem. They were around an Absol named Seth, who suddenly became sick after grabbing a treasure deep inside of a dungeon. They escorted him to a town of herbalists who they believed could help cure his sickness, only to find the town wiped out during their time collecting ingredients that the inhabitants needed to cure his illness. They haven't seen that Absol since, but they did find some strange, shadowy feathers in the room he was in...
Since then, the group has been trying to find a way to combat the shadows, and perhaps turn them back to normal. To achieve this, they enlisted the help of a scientist and researcher, a Porygon-Z by the name of Dr. Zed. Zed is currently working on a machine that can be used against the shadows, one he claims will be able to return them to normal. However, the ingredients he needs to make this weapon work are difficult to obtain, so the group has been helping him gather what he needs.
As for the current situation, they are trying to reach Mesprit's lake, which she seems to have turned into a sort of night club beneath a once bustling city, one that has been overrun with Shadow Pokemon.
I can't share much more of the plot at this time without spoiling my players (who will likely see this post), but I will include a few silly doodles my players have made that might not have been posted anywhere!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for what I think of the system, before this I was running games off of a completely homebrewed system, which, while it worked, it was a bit unstructured and somewhat loose with the rules. Using Pokerole definitely gives our game a more solid foundation for rules and mechanics, but the module itself seems geared around encounters being extremely vicious and hard to survive. The inclusion of things like lethal damage (aka, a move will straight up kill you instead of knock you out), among a few other changes has led to me needing to make adjustments on the fly just to make sure even more basic encounters aren't a wipe. I do like the system! I just feel like it could be better balanced against players dying so often. That being said, I must be doing something right if there's only been one "death" so far! (And by death, I mean the character's fate is currently unknown, they were abandoned and dragged away by a Shadow Luxray, but they didn't find any kind of remains when they went to look for him!)
Anyways, I hope that gives a general overview of what's been going on, I'm always happy to talk about my own projects!

PokeAni!Ghetsis as we got him was really only carried by his sinister, menacing presence and the fact that he was the overarching leader of Team Plasma who oversaw all of their activities across Unova while simultaneously being the sole person in Team Plasma to exhibit zero semblence of humanity whatsoever, with even the likes of Giovanni not being as cruel and devoid of heart as he (and Masaki Aizawa was fine in the role, though he’s still Ghetsis’ weakest JP VA).
Otherwise, “evil to the bone and entitled” as he may have been, he was the most basic, generic, ultimately unsubstantial and not very interesting to watch levels of “Really Bad Guy Who Is Just Bad With Nothing Good About Him” villainy. Along the lines of Iron Mask Marauder, Professor Sebastian, Colonel Hansen, the King of Poke’lantis, Zero, or any bog standard Pokemon poacher rather than like Dr. Yung, Hunter J, Grings Kodai, Chancellor Alva, Dr. Zed, or any of the other exceptionally vile and heinous baddies. And I think the biggest loss with him is that unlike literally every other incarnation of Ghetsis, this one was just not a legitimate threat. He was purely a string-puller who wanted to rely solely on N for his grand scheme for domination and who then did rely solely on Colress all the way to the end. He established why we should hate him, but did jack shit to establish why we should fear him and feel it imperative that he be stopped at all costs. And for Ghetsis, that is a massive letdown.
I’m not one to get pissed when stuff like this happens, but I will never stop being mad about how WASTED Ghetsis was in the Pokemon anime, especially after learning about what he could’ve been.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’re telling me we could’ve FINALLY had a villain to surpass Giovanni in the anime, and because of executive incompetence after a big incident, we got THIS?
Tumblr media
Ghetsis is still evil to the bone and entitled in the anime, so his character thankfully wasn’t assassinated like Cyrus’s character was, BUT COME ON! THIS WAS PLASMA’S ONE SHOT AND THEY SOMEHOW MADE ITS LEADER THE WEAKEST PART OF THE ANIME WHEN HE COULD’VE BEEN GREAT! Ah well at least Colress was great and the rest of the team were solid, but we were so close to perfection. 😭😭😭

@spindlly requested "FL4K ZER0 AND ZED!!!" for the prompt! I actually already did FL4K (you can find it under the tag Pokémon prompt on my blog) HOWEVER: I am actually gonna limit myself to just one character per post because of the time it takes. For this one I'll choose Zed because I think he's an interesting pick!
DR. ZED
Spritzee->Aromatisse: Keeping with Zed's medical theme, I think this Pokémon (partially based off of a plague doctor's outfit) would fit him. He seems like the kind of guy to like this strange little creature.
Hippopotas->Hippowdon: Zed definitely treated this creature's injuries after it wandered into fyrestone one day. Loyal to its savior, it stuck around the town, using sandstorms to create diversions, helping Zed make quick getaways if Nine-Toes' bandits came to town. Soon after, Zed decided to keep the little guy around. He doesn't have a ball, but he's always at Zed's side.
Grimer->Muk: After Jack's defeat, Zed returned to Fyrestone. Naturally, the slag scarred the area, but he also made an ally on his trip back. Zed met this little ball of gunk on his way to his practice, and he currently resides with Zed. Zed uses sludge collected from the grimer to treat slag poisoning.
Audino: Another Pokémon that I think Zed would use for *actually* treating wounds. A classic nurse Pokémon, perfect for Zed.
Chatot: I'm not sure why I think Zed would have this little parrot, but thinking of him with the bird on his shoulder, repeating things in his accent, is really cute.
Skorupi: I think this little guy would be a great source of antivenom for Zed.
Hope you liked it! These are just my personal thoughts so no worries if you don't agree

Like ok most of the other villains were trying to take over the world/destroy it, but ACTUALLY KILLING PEOPLE? this dude thought he murdered a baby and was completely okay with it?
The villain in Pokemon Secret of the Jungle is objectively the most evil villain they have ever had in Pokemon anything

Lots of characters. I’ve been keeping up with The Promised Neverland and Dr. Stone, and I replayed the Jak and Daxter trilogy. Fun, but... very frustrating...
And I think this is the second time I’ve drawn Zed. I thought of showing the first one from 2010, but I don’t think I’m masochist enough for that.
