finished knitting this set for my mom's malibu. (dont mind the clashing swimsuit peeking out. she bit us when we tried to remove it.) i had to get used to knitting again and try out my stitch counts and needle sizes, so this was a good way to make something low effort but with an appreciated result.
vague instructions under cut if you want to knit similar
fingering weight yarn (i think. im not good at this i just test stuff and see what works) on 3mm needles for the main parts but 2mm needles for the cast-on and the k1p1 rib on the edges, to make those look neater.
34st co for the hat (mine is stitched in the back bc i dont knit round) is a good but tight fit on malibu heads, didnt try it on anyone else, doing a swatch first is best ofc both if your doll is different and if your yarn and tension is different than mine. after a few rows of 34st (maybe 7 or so rows?) decrease quickly but gradually (quickly to remove unnecessary bulk, gradually for nice tapering shape).
clothes are on a classic barbie body (i used my MTM while knitting and it also fits this malibu repro body). the dress and cardigan have a bit different yarn weight (cotton vs wool mix)
the dress is a tube and total 40st wide around chest, 32st around waist, and prob around 40st for hips too (i was dcr from the co which was a bit wider). again though doing test swatches saves lives.
the grey cardigan was knit in panels (front x2, back, sleeve x2). the back is just 32st with no dcr (co same k1p1 rib on 2mm as stated at top^ for all this sweater's bottom parts and sleeve cuffs tho not visible bc mom folded them over), each front panel is 16st out of which 3st are a garter edge (knit every row for those 3st). the sleeves are co 12st for the rib, incr to 14st total when switching to stockinette, and incr to 16st total by the elbow. they are pretty tight and i wrote in my notes to maybe incr to 16 after the rib and 18 at the elbow, but it depends if you want a tighter or chunkier fit. and ofc, what your yarns are like. swatches plz. the garter edges still want to curl quite a bit so blocking this wouldve been convenient (but i never do) or simply tying a ribbon between them or adding a small button to keep them in place would work. lazily embroidered a little poinsettia or star type thing on each front panel.
if i make a sweater with the same yarn of the cardigan after this i'd go with a bit less than the cardigan's panel widths, maybe around 28st instead of 32st and see how that goes, but its not a bad look with the cozy loose size either. i think this wont rly help anyone tho bc it will just depend on your yarn and tension and doll.
tip for making boring test swatches: you can make miniature pillows or blankets out of them, or squares to use for miniature quilts, or miniature rugs, etc. they dont have to feel like a waste of time. just write down a note in some organised place about the swatch size/stitchcount results and what yarn it is and what needles you used, so you dont have to keep worrying about that once the swatch found its new use.

Some post Christmas stitching finished up! I was going to make a double sided patchwork Christmas stocking for my friend for when she got back from her travels over Christmas... And then I forgot to turn the pattern over for the back of the stocking. So instead I decided to finish the second for myself. Hers has the green binding and mine has the red. No pictures of them together because I finished mine after giving hers to her.
The snowflake print is the interior as well as the back. Once I noticed my screw up with cutting and came to terms with it, I did a quilted back with the snowflakes front and back and straight lines following the plaid.
There are a lot of puckers with the diamond quilting on the front - if I do more of these I'll try spray basting to see if that helps. The size of the panel I made for these was small enough I struggled to get it pulled tightly enough while pin basting.
The hangers are made out of scraps from the quilted panel after cutting out the stocking fronts. I really like how much structure they have - they hold the top of the stocking open which gives it more shape.
Oh, and other than the last seam on the front of the panel I managed to spin the seams and it looked so pretty. I considered picking out that last seam to try to redo it, but I was on a deadline and finished the one for my friend an hour before delivery. Oops.
The fabrics are a mix of old and new Christmas prints. I used the red print with ornaments as the start of my fabric pull - I brought in the light pink with the (fussy cut) 8 pointed stars for that as well as the blues although the blues didn't exactly match the blues in the ornament print. The two sparkly dark greens are leftovers from a stuffed Christmas tree I made years ago, the red plaid was a shirt once upon a time, poinsettia and dark green with snowflakes were used for the backs of cross stitched ornaments I did for friends in 2008, the snowflake batiks were part of a four seasons quilt I made in either 2010 or 2011. I've had this stocking pattern since either 2008 or 2009 - I used it to make fleece stockings and another pattern from the pack to make a tree skirt that year.

A person on my quilting discord was trying to destash some fabric for the price of shipping. I made this from one piece I got from them plus some tiny little bits of another one. I've had the lining fabric for... More than a decade and have only used it in one quilt (the one I bought it for). Pretty happy how it turned out even if the poinsettia side was distorted so some of my top stitching ended up over the corner of the design.

Space Quilts by Jimmy McBride
They say in space, "no one can hear you scream." Well, they can't hear the low drone of the internal power generators kick on again when you're half way to nowhere. I can. I work for a shipping company called "Intergalactic Transport." I travel back and forth from rock to rock carrying those two all important gems- salt and vinegar. There's a lot of time to kill up here so I downloaded a grandma program and she's been teaching me how to quilt. There's no "log cabins" or "poinsettias" around so I just stare out the window until something catches my eye. It's nice every once in a while to shoot the shit with a fellow traveler, or get caught up in the new dawn celebrations in the outer rim, but mostly it's just me; with a lot of time on my hands.
