Random thought but I love it when in more lighthearted, almost crack-ish Tomarry/Tomione fics, Abraxas ends up being the lovable idiot character. The type where Tom would just look at him and contemplate sending him a crucio but would instead just shake his head in resignation, knowing he's a lost cause regardless. He'd still allow him to be his friend (or bff if Abby has anything to say about it) but atp its better to leave him be unless he does something headache inducing enough to warrant a response. He won't say no to the other Knights whacking him upside the end for being ridiculous though.
Ofc, Abraxas would probably still end up making an off-hand prejudiced comment bc all the stuff/info he was raised with won't disappear in a day even with a time travelling gryffindor intervention, but Harry or Hermione will be there to set him straight by probably cutting off his hair or smtg - appearance altering related hexes that'd make Abby scream and grovel. Hard to be too mad at him when he looks so genuinely distraught lol, but he definitely would've learned his lesson.
It's hilarious considering how the Malfoy family actually are in canon. Alternatively, I don't mind Lucius taking the position of blonde lovable idiot if it was a timetravel to the marauders era with focus more on the slytherins (if it was an _ x sev or _ x regulus fic). Wouldn't say it's a common or popular characterization of them but I still love it when it pops up. I can also adapt and hate their guts if their characters are closer to canon in more serious fics, but that's besides the point.

hi! how common do you think students having time turners actually was, as we're only given a handful of examples? and do you think there was an ulterior motive to hermione being given the time turner? i really value your insights and this is a question that's been annoying me for years.
hi!
I don't think it's common at all. I was always under the impression Hermione was literally the only student who ever received a time-turner. I believe it had to do with Sirius Black being on the loose and Hermione being friends with Harry and not just about her schedule.
Even though the time turner Hermione receives is very limited:
According to Professor Saul Croaker, who has spent his entire career in the Department of Mysteries studying time-magic: ‘As our investigations currently stand, the longest period that may be relived without the possibility of serious harm to the traveller or to time itself is around five hours. We have been able to encase single Hour-Reversal Charms, which are unstable and benefit from containment, in small, enchanted hour-glasses that may be worn around a witch or wizard’s neck and revolved according to the number of hours the user wishes to relive. ‘All attempts to travel back further than a few hours have resulted in catastrophic harm to the witch or wizard involved.
(From Pottermore)
It doesn't seem like a common procedure:
“It’s called a Time-Turner,” Hermione whispered, “and I got it from Professor McGonagall on our first day back. I’ve been using it all year to get to all my lessons. Professor McGonagall made me swear I wouldn’t tell anyone. She had to write all sorts of letters to the Ministry of Magic so I could have one. She had to tell them that I was a model student, and that I’d never, ever use it for anything except my studies. ... I’ve been turning it back so I could do hours over again, that’s how I’ve been doing several lessons at once, see? But ...
(PoA)
Considering how McGonagall had to send multiple letters back and forth and not just the one usual form for student time turners, it makes me believe Hermione was a special case.
JKR wrote her as a special case, according to her:
Secondly, I had Hermione give back the only Time-Turner ever to enter Hogwarts.
(From Pottermore)
Now, JKR basically wrote herself into a problem. The problem was why was Hermione the only student given a time turner and how could other students who achieved 12 NEWTs (Tom Riddle, Bill & Percy Weasley, and Barty Crouch Jr) could've done so without the use of time travel?
Let's start with the second question. How they could accomplish 12 NEWTs without a time turner? Honestly, it's kinda easy to explain. Like, I have sat over scheduling classes at Hogwarts for a while, knowing the amount of teachers and such. How classes seem to work is that between 1-5 years the students are divided into groups of two houses for different subjects.
For example, Potions & DADA are a joint class of Gryffindor and Slytherin, meaning that Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw take these classes together. Herbology is a joint class of Gryffindor & Ravenclaw (meaning Slytherin & Ravenclaw likely have Herbology together) and so on for other classes.
In the first 5 years, we see the elective subjects are similarly split. We see Gryffindor and Slytherin take their electives together (only Gryffindors in Divination and Malfoy and other Slytherins are at Care with the main characters). Later, in the NEWT classes in the final two years, many students seem to drop out and you have classes with all the students in the year for all 4 houses. (I might make a full post explaining all of this and the evidence for it in more detail, this is just an overview).
But basically, it means that for OWLs at least, it's very possible to take electives at another time with the other half of your year. Also, considering the number of students, over 5 years split in 2 plus 2 less split apart years and 11 teachers, each student is likely to have a few free blocks in their schedule due to there being only one teacher per subject. This would allow to schedule subjects so a student could take 12 NEWTs without any scheduling issues.
Now why Hermione's case was special. I think it's a combination of multiple things happening together.
First, It's very likely that with the complicated scheduling at Hogwarts Hermione fell on a year where her schedule really was impossible. We know Ancient Runes doesn't happen at the same time as Care or Arithmancy as she keeps taking it so it's possible they had a real scheduling problem that specific year for electives.
Second, I mentioned in the past I believe Dumbledore was aware Sirius was innocent and he was the one who told Harry and Hermione to use the time turner to help him and Buckbeek. When they go back in time, the past Dumbledore (who shouldn't know they went back in time yet) actively helps them with the plan to release Buckbeek:
They were still ten feet away from the forest, in plain view of Hagrid’s back door. “One moment, please, Macnair,” came Dumbledore’s voice. “You need to sign too.” The footsteps stopped.
[...]
“Where is it?” said the reedy voice of the Committee member. “Where is the beast?” “It was tied here!” said the executioner furiously. “I saw it! Just here!” “How extraordinary,” said Dumbledore. There was a note of amusement in his voice.
(PoA, 401-402)
I don't think Dumbledore knew exactly what the circumstances would be at the end of the year, but I think he and McGonagall agreed Hermione's scheduling issue was a good excuse to get someone near Harry with a time turner that just might save his life if the worst came to it. Or, at least something along these lines.
So, basically, a schedule that was unluckily impossible that year added to Harry's unique circumstances and I think it explains why Dumbledore and McGonagall would go out of their way to make her an exception. Or at least the best explanation I could come up with.

What do you think Harry's relationship with his in-laws would be like over time if he got together with Draco? If they had kids together?
probably strained. I’m sure Lucius professes to have changed his mind but let’s be real. It’s not true. And Harry doesn’t buy it. Not to mention every time he looks at Lucius a part of him will remember the department of mysteries and being fourteen in that graveyard, thinking he was about to die, and screaming in agony while Lucius and the other death eaters jeered at him. Also while Harry didn’t actually set out to ruin Lucius’s life his actions in book 2 and 5 were instrumental in the downfall of the Malfoy family. And Lucius isn’t exactly in the mood to blame himself. Plus I think post war Draco has a lot of resentment towards both of his parents but especially his father. So given all that I’d say strained politeness is about all Harry and Lucius ever get to.
Narcissa is a bit more complicated. Harry owes her his life. But also her attitudes were every bit as atrocious as her husband’. She has a little more plausible deniability because she wasn’t a death eater and also Harry doesn’t have traumatic memories associated with her. And think she’s a bit more politically savvy than Lucius and better at pretending she doesn’t mind that Hermione is basically Draco’s sister in law now. (Even Narcissa has to admit after many years that she is grudgingly impressed by Hermione’s ruthless streak). So things are a bit easier between them.

Who says Harry isn’t powerful?
Lily’s letter to Sirius mentioned Harry zooming around on his toy broomstick at a year old. I’d say displaying magic at that age is impressive. Plus going on to become the youngest Seeker in a century.
Killing the Basilisk. At age 12! With help from Fawkes, but still! Godric Gryffindor level of combat skills.
Conjuring a stag Patronus at age 13 to fend off a hundred Dementors, when most adult wizards couldn’t even cast an incorporeal one. His ability caused quite an uproar at the Wizengamot later on.
Surviving and WINNING the Triwizard Tournament at age 14. Had help here and there, yes, but Harry walked onto each battlefield alone.
Using Protego masterfully by age 15 that it reflected Snape’s Legilimens spell right back at him. Casting a Shield Charm powerful enough to expand and fill the Great Hall. Many adult wizards have trouble casting a sufficient Protego.
Leading Dumbledore’s Army and improving their DADA skills to significantly above average. Fighting courageously and sustaining the least physical damage at the Department of Mysteries.
Succesfully casting Imperio and completely resisting it. Successfully casting Crucio on his third attempt. Unforgivable curses take powerful magic, said Snape.
And finally, Hogwarts studies - yeah, maybe not top in nearly every subject like Hermione, but getting all Es on exams he wasn’t interrupted during and an O in DADA, outperforming his best friend Ron who grew up in a pure-blood wizarding household. Harry was raised by Muggles. Not the same starting point, and yet Harry ended up slightly surpassing Ron academically with that Outstanding score.
Recognized powerful characters - Marauders generation, certain Death Eaters, the professors - they are at least 20 years Harry’s senior. Being defeated by them does not, at all, make him mediocre. I’m sure that by his 30s, he’d have greatly increased in magical aptitude and solidified his status as one of the most powerful wizards of his generation.

au where harry goes on the amazing race with ron, only to fall in love with their team's camera operator, draco malfoy.
nobody knows where he went, rarely showing face in wizard society, but a muggle reality show was the last place harry expected to see him.
draco's not supposed to interfere, but sometimes he films a specific spot to drop hints (and because harry is always looking at him, he immediately gets it). he teaches harry (only harry) a few words to aid them in each country, a culmination of all the places he's been to because of TAR. his kindness and travel intellectualism, paired with his soft smile when harry cracks a joke or solves a puzzle, makes harry's heart go BADUMP... BADUMP!
the audio person (blaise) tells him off for being too friendly with the team (shows bias), but draco huffs, cause it's not like he's directly helping, right? plus, he has front row seats to harry potter and ron weasley making complete fools out of themselves.
ron dgaf what's happening with drarry - he's determined to beat hermione and ginny's team, who bragged that ron and harry can't outsmart or out-physical them. he's so over harry pining and obsessing over the same guy, still. but he laughs when harry tries to impress draco and fails, and embarrasses harry in front of his crush especially since harry makes it so easy, like ogling draco when he's on a water break.
---
draco: busy filming, has to run at their pace or faster with a giant camera on his shoulder, not 100% paying attention.
harry: (thinking: look at me draco!) i can outrun them! *trips over literal air, allowing ginny and hermione to beat them to the mat*
also harry: witty, natural yet awkward charisma, does well under pressure, good at deduction but even better with ron, humble and likeable too

Aunt Marge/Gellert Grindelwald (read a fic about that during a rare pair fest like ... 15 years ago. Good times)
Remus Lupin/Voldemort
Moaning Myrtle/ Ron Weasley
Albus Dumbledore/The guy who accused him of stealing the twelve uses of dragon's blood from him (too lazy to google the name rn)
Molly Weasley/Rita Skeeter
thank you very much, anon - really quite impressed by these, the random-number generator is turning into a real pal.
marge dursley/gellert grindelwald
judge rules... flop. grindelwald is foreign, and our marge prefers her fascists homegrown. she can pass the time writing y/n fanfics starring nigel farage.
remus lupin/lord voldemort
i have - for my manifold sins - answered this one before, and i remain committed to my opinion that it would... bang.
myrtle warren/ron weasley
while - despite a common accusation levelled against him of having the emotional range of a teaspoon [which, may i say, is a bit fucking rich coming from hermione "why are you so upset your rabbit is dead?" granger] - ron is probably the only member of the trio who possesses the emotional maturity to handle myrtle's whole... deal. he's also a man who loves to gently tease the object of his affections.
myrtle demonstrably cannot take a joke - "you'll take the secret to the sewers" is a top-notch read from ron, and i won't hear otherwise - and so this is flopping hard.
ivor dillonsby/albus dumbledore
yes, i'll back this enormously. academic rivals is a hot trope, as is catching [and then engaging in a thorough exploration of kink] with a thief.
rita skeeter/molly weasley
this is going to slap because it's an example of the extremely cultured enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies-again-to-let's-see dynamic.
molly hates rita at the start of goblet of fire, when she's slagging off the ministry response to the death eaters at the quidditch world cup. then she thinks she's an angel when she's writing fake news about harry having a wee sob when he remembers his parents are dead. then she hates her again when harry tells her these stories are false. then she presumably backs her for doing that quibbler interview with harry as a way to counter the prophet's relentless propaganda.
hot!
plus, you just know molly was hooked on the life and lies of albus dumbledore.
as she should have been.

Dear Rowan; Love, Harry.
This is a belated birthday gift for @basicallyahedgehog. Rowan you deserve much much more than this, much sooner. I'm so so sorry it's late. In my timezone, I am one day late for your birthday, but in yours I am two, and neither is acceptable in my book. So, because of that, I have written you something...unique. I suppose. That's a nice way to put it.
This is a letter. From Harry. To you. On your birthday. But not just any Harry. This is Harry from "this is me trying," and he has a message for you.
(For everyone else: This contains MAJOR SPOILERS from my fic "this is me trying." Like. Major. So. Don't read this if you haven't read that.)
Dear Rowan,
Er, hi? I guess? That's how letters are supposed to start....this is awkward. Why am I making this so awkward? It's not my fault I'm this way—Phoebe wrote me like this. It's her fault. Anyway.
First of all, happy birthday. Phoebe has advised me that it wouldn't be odd for me to catch you up on everything that's happened since we left off in Draco's and my story; because it hasn't ended. Far from it.
The bakery is doing well. Really, really well. Like. I had to hire someone to manage the front. (I'm quite certain I could've handled it myself, but Draco persuaded me to hire help because I "shouldn't have to do everything yourself, you stubborn Gryffindor. Now finish writing yet another chocolate buttercream recipe and come back to bed!"
Truthfully, business isn't quite as hectic as it was the first few years. Draco would say it's because the novelty of the "Saviour" owning a bakery finally died down, but I think the real reason is because he hasn't been doing his writing here as much. He says I have adoring fans, but he doesn't seem to remember that half the people who asked for autographs were his own fans. Honestly, he acts like he's not a best-selling author and poet. I should know. I was the one who baked the cupcakes for his meet-and-greet.
He insists working in the bakery is too distracting for him, which I understand. It can be loud in there, especially when there's a big crowd. And now he's got his own big, fancy study at home where he can do his writing, plus there's Grimmauld Place's extensive library. So he's happy. And he knows he's always got a table to himself at the bakery when he does come in, which is a distraction for me. Because there's nothing to stop me from bribing him with sweets in exchange for kisses. An even trade, if you ask me. And I think even he would agree.
Let's see. What else. Oh! Ron and Hermione are doing well. Hermione instantly took a liking to Draco when they met again. They've spent hours talking about both Wizarding and Muggle literature. And Ron's just happy to have someone to play chess with who's as skilled as him.
Pansy is doing well, too. Not much to report on her. Truth be told, that woman frightens me. But she's got a wealth of information about Draco, especially when she's had a little wine. (But don't tell either of them I said that. They'd both kill me.)
That's all to say, really. We're all happy, and Draco and I are in love, and now all the late-night drives I take are with him in the passenger's seat. It's good. It's so, so good. I wouldn't trade it for a thing.
Now onto you, the birthday-haver. Phoebe tells me how proud of you she is, and I can see why. Draco and I think you're fantastic, and we're incredibly impressed with how far you've come. We love every story you've made about us. Thank you for creating worlds for us to love each other, to be ourselves, and to be happy, above all else.
Thank you for being Phoebe's friend. When she wrote Draco's and my story, she was in a difficult chapter in her life, and she says you were a big part of why she was able to come out of it for the better. She wants me to tell you she feels beyond lucky to have you in her life, and from what she tells me, I can see why.
We love you, Rowan. Draco and I, and also Phoebe, who insisted with an odd gleam in her eyes that she loves you more, and Draco and I were not about to argue with that. Happy Birthday. Here's to another year of trying to figure out the difference between who we think we're supposed to be, and who we really are.
Love,
Harry

one of the reasons why reformed Draco is so appealing to me is because like. His story has a lot of overlap with mine. I was raised in a high control group by parents who loved me but taught me a toxic, bigoted view of the world. And that worldview for me came crashing down around my ears when I got out in the world and I kept seeing how what I had been taught didn’t fit into reality.
And it took years to scrape away the gunk of what I had been taught to find who I really am and what I really believe with the love and support of my chosen family and. I guess there’s something healing about making that story into art. Kind of like a pensieve? Taking it out of my head and putting it somewhere I can look at it and think about it and learn from it and even share it with other people.
Also Draco himself is appealing for reasons that have nothing to do with Tom Felton! In the books, he is dramatic and flamboyant and loud. He likes to do impressions and make up songs. He can’t keep a secret to save his life (literally! He was given a secret assignment from Voldemort and IMMEDIATELY brags about it to everyone he knows, many of whom have parents who could easily have reported this back to Voldemort).
Getting wrekt by Harry and Ron repeatedly and Hermione once does not stop him from talking shit constantly. He’s fun! And the descriptions of his physical appearance are very striking and unusual as well. Naturally platinum blond hair, silver eyes, pointed features. Plus there are these tantalizing little hints that his family life is maybe not as happy as a gift of 7 Nimbus 2001s might suggest. The guy is fandom catnip! He sparks the imagination.
The idea of redeemed Draco for some of us is the idea of someone who maybe doesn’t deserve a second chance getting one anyway and managing to do something good with it. I know I’m grateful that I don’t have to stay who I was at eleven or even at seventeen.

i just wanted to say that you are one of my favorites h/d writers and one of the reasons, except your brilliant writing of course, is the fact that you also believe it is bullshit that Harry could love Draco before he changes for the better and hates the whole “he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Malfoy” thing. I honestly think that a lot of writes and fans of h/d have Draco as their favorite character and because of that they tend to be more biased towards him. But if Harry could like Draco when he was a jerk to Hermione and Ron, laughed at Cedric’s death and treated everyone that Harry loved badly, then why does he has to change at all you know? I think that people get so fixated in the “he was a child pressured by his father” and all the other arguments they use to excuse Draco of his behavior that they forget that Harry and the others were children as well who didn’t deserve to be treated this way especially when they were already suffering. Like, just because you can understand the circumstances of why someone hurt you doesn’t mean it’s going to hurt less, plus Draco actually believe in those things he said, he only changed his mind latter but for some reason people like to pretend he didn’t. I just think that this defeats the purpose of the ship for me cause I like h/d because i believe that people can change and that we can learn to accept them not in spite of what they did but because of the fact that they work to change for the better everyday. Sorry for the long text but i get a little upset about this and also english isn’t my first language so sorry for any mistakes and thank you for reading it ❤️💚
I'm glad you like my writing!
I'd just like to clarify that I don't believe it's bullshit that Harry could love Draco without Draco changing. I believe a) it's possible for people to fall in love with people they don't agree with morally or ethically, and that's not bullshit, b) it's not bullshit to want to see that kind of love in your fantasies or your fanfics.
I just don't prefer to write (or read) fic in which Draco doesn't make significant changes. Redemption is what interests me about Draco; he didn't get it in canon, and I like to see him work for it in fic. Interestingly, I also like fic in which Harry has to change significantly to see Draco's humanity; I like it best when both of them grow beyond the scope of their childhood ethics (and not coincidentally, the ethics of the canon itself).
I do quite often get the impression that many people do like Draco "better," or care about him more. I think this is fine. I'm often more interested in a character than another character I ship them with, I am just personally uninterested in writing or reading fic that doesn't treat both characters as humans that deserve empathy and understanding.
And I think that you're right, that a lot of people seem to focus their empathy on Draco without extending much to Harry or his friends. Extending empathy does not have to be an either/or scenario! You can feel bad about how Draco was indoctrinated and the things Draco was forced to do while still also feeling bad that Harry was bullied by Draco; you can still feel that it's horrible that Harry's life was threatened by Draco and ideals Draco espoused.
As you say, just because someone hurt you for understandable reasons doesn't mean you're not allowed to be hurt. Similarly, even if you never intended that harm, you still have to deal with the consequences of having caused harm. Like, people will still be hurt, whether you meant for them to be or not. I think that this was a really formative realization for me growing up, and something that seems lost in a lot of discussions about purity or goodness or morality. Your motives can be pure as the driven snow, and you can still hurt someone. A child can be innocent and cause pain. I have been hurt by children plenty of times--they don't necessarily have to apologize to me, but I'm still allowed to feel hurt.
But I will wrap by saying that people ship Harry/Draco for many reasons, and it's okay to want fic that focuses solely on Draco getting love and support with Harry a mere vessel for that love and support. I do not demand that anyone else cater to my specific desires for the ship. What you want from the ship and what you like about it are not a test of virtue; it can be about what makes you feel good. The way I like the ship happens to make me feel good, and I write what I want to read.

Write a short Harry Potter adventure featuring Harry, Ron and Hermione with proper screenplay and dialogue
INT. HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY - DAY
We see Harry, Ron, and Hermione sitting at a table in the Gryffindor common room. They are discussing their latest potions assignment.
HARRY
I can't believe we have to brew a Polyjuice Potion by the end of the week.
HERMIONE
It's not that difficult, Harry. As long as we follow the recipe correctly, we should be able to do it.
RON
(sarcastically)
Yeah, easy for you to say, Hermione. You always get top marks in potions.
HERMIONE
(ignores Ron)
We'll need to gather the ingredients from the Forbidden Forest. I'll check the library to see if there's a map of the area.
HARRY
I'll come with you, Hermione. Ron, you want to come too?
RON
(hesitant)
I don't know, Harry. The Forbidden Forest is pretty dangerous.
HARRY
(encouraging)
Come on, Ron. We'll stick together. Plus, we're all trained in defensive spells.
RON
(resigned)
Fine. Let's do it.
The three friends grab their bags and head out of the common room.
EXT. FORBIDDEN FOREST - DAY
We see Harry, Ron, and Hermione walking through the forest, looking for ingredients. Suddenly, they hear a rustling in the bushes.
HERMIONE
(whispering)
Everyone, be on guard.
HARRY
(whispering)
I've got my wand ready.
RON
(whispering)
Me too.
A giant spider jumps out from the bushes.
HARRY
(shouts)
Stupefy!
Harry's spell hits the spider, stunning it.
HERMIONE
(proudly)
Well done, Harry!
RON
(relieved)
Thanks, Harry. That was close.
HARRY
(smiling)
No problem. Let's keep looking for those ingredients.
The three friends continue their search, gathering ingredients and successfully brewing the Polyjuice Potion.
INT. POTIONS CLASS - DAY
The three friends are sitting in potions class, presenting their finished Polyjuice Potion to Professor Snape.
PROFESSOR SNAPE
(inspecting the potion)
Impressive, Mr. Potter, Miss Granger, Mr. Weasley. This is some of the best Polyjuice Potion I have seen from a group of students. Ten points to Gryffindor.
HARRY
(smiling)
Thank you, Professor Snape.
HERMIONE
(proudly)
We couldn't have done it without each other.
RON
(grinning)
Yeah, we make a pretty good team.
The class ends and the three friends leave the classroom, feeling proud of their accomplishment.

Actually, I’ve got more thoughts concerning Neville and the people who tortured his parents and DADA class, and I’m incapable of shutting up so here we go. First and second year seem to be relatively alright for Neville in terms of that, but from third year on, the poor boy’s got terrible luck.
Third year, Sirius Black (cousin of Bellatrix, which is likely to be of particular focus for Neville considering who Bellatrix is to him) escapes from a previously inescapable prison and also Neville has to be the Boggart demonstration (I maintain that POA, the book that is key to the Second War beginning because it sets the Peter plot in motion, would have been a fantastic time to show the effects the First War left on everyone, maybe by Neville going up to the Boggart, everyone expecting Snape or Potions (but something that’s scary, but not emotionally raw and painful), and instead they get one do the most infamous Death Eaters standing in the room and cackling about how she escaped from prison to finish what she started 12 years ago and kill Neville (plus, Harry is operating under tue impression Sirius escaped from prison to murder him, we’d get Neville-Harry parallels, Harry as the chosen one and Neville viewed as the spare but with similar fears as Harry concerning what happened to their family. The difference is almost nobody tells Harry exactly what happened that fateful Halloween, Neville knows exactly who destroyed his family). Remus is looking at a mad Bellatrix Lestrange, she’s got the same looks as Sirius and Sirius always despised that they look so alike but maybe that was just one more lie Sirius told Remus if he lied about everything else, she’s laughing the same way Sirius did after betraying the Potters and killing Peter, she’s talking about escaping from prison to murder a child she practically orphaned and it’s the same reason Sirius escaped or so everyone believes, you can’t convince me this shouldn’t have been the way the scene went down).
Fourth year, Neville is being taught by one of the people responsible for torturing his parents until their minds broke, and this man even demonstrates the Cruciatus curse in front of Neville. It’s not until Hermione yells at him to stop that it becomes evident Neville is genuinely distressed by the sight of this because he’s aware that this is exactly what happened to his family, and then BCJ proceeds to act as if he’s comforting Neville, knowing the entire time that he helped wreck Neville’s family.
Fifth year, they’ve got sheer staggering uselessness, she won’t teach them practical knowledge so they form the DA, and then the breakout happens and the people who essentially murdered Frank and Alice are free again. He then gets confronted by Bellatrix at the DOM (slightly funny that it’s entirely possible he had no idea Sirius was innocent but just rolled with it to help Harry though), and she uses the Cruciatus on him; this woman used that same curse to permanently shatter his parents’ minds, he’s very aware that the pain he’s feeling was the last thing his parents were consciously aware of and that if she keeps this going long enough he might end up as a permanent resident in the hospital, and this whole things is a result of some prophecy that her master is interested. Also, there’s the parallel of her torturing Neville to make Harry hand over the prophecy to help her Matter, and her torturing his parents all those years ago to get information on what happened to that same Master.
Sixth year, he’s being taught by a former Death Eater, the very Death Eater that told Voldemort the prophecy that destroyed Harry and Neville during the First War. This teacher has been nothing but horrible to Neville for 6 years, and then this teacher helps murder the headmaster and it looks like Neville’s spent 6 years being taught by a man who never quit being a Death Eater at all. Also, Death Eaters are brought into the school during this, Neville’s having a terrible time. Seventh year really does not need to be talked about, because Hogwarts is under control of Death Eaters. There’s then a literal battle and Voldemort sets his head on fire for a bit. TLDR: Neville and the DADA classes he attends are particularly awful for him starting from third year on, especially when related to the Longbottom attack.
😭😭😭😭 I don't have anything to add to this except that Neville is so good and he deserved better, ugh, he suffers SO MUCH and it's never acknowledged!
I need this AU fic where it's Bellatrix who appears during the DADA lesson instead of Snape, please and thank you.

2023 Trick or Treat
I am generally easy to please and know that I will appreciate what you write for me!
General DNW: character death, BDSM, mpreg, bestiality, hard kink, non-con/dub-con, poly/threesome/orgies, a/b/o, miscarriage
General Likes/Kinks/Tropes: Sticking to canon is great but I enjoy a well written AU. I love a great trope. Pretend/Fake relationships, sharing a bed, coffee shop, stuck in a confined space, end of the world scenarios, UST, slow burn, What-If, time-loop. I also have a strange obsession with medical fiction, true crime and natural disaster movies. I love the “get-together” part of relationships the most.
Now the fun stuff! Feel free to use a prompt or be inspired on your own.
Fandom Specific Prompts: Feel free to use or lose. Ideas are in a jumble of thoughts, not necessarily connected to each other
Marvel Cinematic Universe: I have a bit of a ship Darcy with almost everyone problem. However as far as MCU in general, it can be canon, it can be a moment in time, it can be AU, up to you!
Darcy/Jimmy: I've only ever encountered a few fics with these two. zi really think they have such a fun dynamic. I would love to see them exploring a supposedly haunted locations with a sort of Scooby Doo vibe. Get stuck in a time loop together? Maybe they accidentally end up in costumes that get mistaken as a couples costume at a party?
Darcy/Sam: Darcy and Sam keep running into each other at random places. Maybe Sam keeps saving Darcy from ridiculous little disasters
Darcy/Bucky: I love the idea of Darcy and Bucky connecting over things that film, or accidental penpals, or accidentally texting each other. Maybe she convinces him to go to a haunted house or a comic convention with her?
Darcy/Bruce: Team science! Perhaps they both underestimate each other. First impressions aren't what they seem.
X-Files
Mulder/Scully: My OTP. But seriously, maybe an AU college fic of the two. Maybe they both end up on a true crime podcast, or meet independently trying to solve mysterious things that happen at the college.
Parks and Rec
Leslie/Ben: An ongoing Halloween prank war? Or rather Leslie thinks she is showering Ben with love, but he thinks it is pranks. Lively discussions over the years about what couples costume to wear?
Leslie & Ron: 5 times Ron did somethings secretly nice for Leslie.
Andy & April & Ben: Andy and April take Ben to a convention like Dragoncon or Comic con.
Twilight
Emmett/Bella: Au or AH preferred. Bella moves to Forks as an adult and meets Emmet. Bella thinks Emmett is just an actor at a haunted house, she's surprised to find out he's really a vampire.
Doctor Who: AU exploration is always fun.
10th Doctor/Rose: Before Rose agrees to travel on the Tardis, the doctor keeps randomly running into her. Rose is and the Doctor get stuck in a time loop. Rose and the Doctor keep ending up on planets that are like real life movies/tv shows.
11th Doctor/Rose: The 11th doctor accidentally meets Rose before 10. Rose is gets set up on a blind date and it's the 11th doctor. Rose accidentally texts the 11th doctor and they end up texting pals without either of them realizing who it is at first.
Harry Potter
Hermione/George: Hermione helps out in the joke shop after Fred's death or helps George via correspondence. In a universe where Hermione never married Ron, George always seems to end up her plus one at events
Hermione/Victor: They reconnect later as adults. Or they never stop writing letters and accidentally meet up and discover there is more. Hermione goes through a divorce and is pleasantly surprised to find out Victor is the partner she wished she always had.
Good Omens
Aziraphale/Crowley: Aziraphale insists that he hate Halloween, Crowley notices that isn't quite true. In which Aziraphale loves PSL and all things fall and spooky.

Hi again :)
Two questions actually:
First why didn't Lucius buy Draco another broom? I know JKR meant for Harry to have the bestest broom ever but I wonder why Draco never got a broom upgrade? His parents can afford it and I dont see why Lucius would deny his son a faster broom. Especially after he became prefect.
Second, why exactly is Harry so obsessed with Draco early on? Its obvious why Draco goes after Harry given he is famous and all. But why the other way around? Before Draco ever really did anything to hurt him, he was putting Draco on the same level as his abusive cousin, which makes no sense, and getting all angry at Draco getting care packages. What's his problem? Why pay this rich kid so much attention??
Hello! :D Once again, thank you for your patience. This was a cool ask so I wanted to do it justice.
1)
On your first point, I think a couple of factors are at play, but basically Lucius was probably feeling a bit fed up at that point and also he quickly had other things on his mind due to Voldemort's return. What do I mean by that? Well, in second year he already seems annoyed with Draco for coming second to Hermione in school and is kind of Done TM with hearing Draco talk about or complain about Harry (to be fair Draco did seemingly spend the whole summer doing this). Then he goes out and gets Draco on the Quidditch team and buys the entire team really good brooms. And Draco STILL loses to Harry (though only just). And presumably still comes second to Hermione in school. I think Lucius might've been less than pleased with this.
Plus, Draco's more of a talker than a doer. Yeah he complains about Hermione but he doesn't actually do anything to her because of his aversion to violence. If Lucius and his Death Eater buddies had got ahold of her at the Quidditch Cup they wouldn't have insulted her. They would have hurt her. And they would have enjoyed it. Draco would not have the stomach for that, and Lucius might already be beginning to suspect that. Not to mention, Lucius actually doesn't approve of Draco's open rivalry with Harry. He feels that it is smarter to at least pretend (at this stage) to like Harry since openly seeming anything other than grateful for Voldemort's fall is unwise politically. Draco of course is incapable of leaving Harry alone since if he can't be in Harry's life as his friend he's determined to be in his life as his Nemesis TM. Lucius probably views this as shortsighted and is likely annoyed by it.
Furthermore, the Firebolt is REALLY expensive. Even Harry, with all his wealth, decides it would be unwise to buy it. I mean, it's not really something you would usually use for a school team. It's what professionals at the Quidditch Cup use. So after buying a whole team's worth of brooms and being a bit displeased with Draco, Lucius may not be in the mood to get him something so fancy. Still, Lucius might have bought it for Draco eventually but let's remember the timing. Harry gets the broom midway through third year. Lucius doesn't feel inclined to rush out that minute and buy Draco a new broom (again).
And then fourth year rolls around. The Triwizard Tournament means there's no Quidditch so there's no point. Plus Lucius is probably distracted by the fact that his Dark Mark is getting clearer every day and oh no what if Voldemort isn't actually dead? What if he comes back? What if he's mad at all the people who didn't stay faithful to him...?
And then Voldemort DOES come back. And Lucius has...so many problems. First he has to tell Voldemort that he kinda sorta might've lost his diary. Whoopsie. And that...does not go well. then he's busy trying to stay alive and un-tortured and trying to regain Voldemort's favor during fifth year. And then he gets caught at the Department of Mysteries and arrested. Probably broom buying is the last thing on his mind.
2)
(First, as an aside, I don't know that Draco's interest in Harry is purely based on his fame. I mean, he tries to befriend and impress Harry in Madam Malkin's before he even knows who he is.) But anyway, both of them seem to be mutually drawn to each other even though their relationship is an acrimonious one almost from the beginning. Yes, Harry almost immediately takes a dislike to Draco. But he's also very aware of him. And that...never stops.
I'm not sure I would say that Harry exactly puts Draco on the same level as Dudley, but he is immediately reminded of Dudley due to Draco's boasting. Draco speaks in a way that makes Harry think he is spoiled and privileged...like Dudley. Draco also declares he'll bully his father into getting him a broom. This is a boast because he's trying to show off to impress Harry.
Lucius and Narcissa are not Vernon and Petunia. They do a lot for Draco but they would never allow him to push them around the way Dudley does his parents. Harry doesn't know this however, and takes Draco at his word which makes him draw a parallel to Dudley in his mind. Draco's bullying and bigoted behavior also further turns Harry against him. He's never afraid of Draco though in the way he is of Dudley, so the dynamic is different.
But yeah. Harry is...really hyper aware of Draco. Not because he's scared of him. But just because he can't seem to look away. They orbit and play off each other right from day one. Harry immediately recognizes Draco when he meets him again on the train (and Draco also remembers Harry right away). He watches Draco's sorting and where he goes to sit. He dreams of Draco his very first night.
I'm not sure Harry even knows why this is. There's just something about Draco that he's drawn to, even when they aren't friends, even when they are bitter rivals. They can never forget each other or look away from each other. Harry isn't like this with other people he dislikes. He's not like this about Zacharias Smith or Crabbe or Goyle or Michael Corner or Cormac McLaggen or even Snape or Voldemort.
There's something different with Draco. Something more. To me, that something is drarry.

Jealousy
“Oooh you're in a mood today,” Hermione told Harry, standing in the hall of the Auror Offices with a stack of files in her hands.
“I’m not,” snapped Harry. She shot a doubtful look at him, and Olivia had to agree with Hermione’s analysis.
“It’s about France, is it? You and Ron have both been bullied into going, so you're going to mope.”
“It's not about France,” said Harry easily.
“Well then, cheer up! It's a week away.” grinned Hermione, shaking his shoulder playfully. Harry halfheartedly swatted her hand away and gave her a wry smile.
The pair disappeared into Harry’s office and the door was closed, forcing Olivia to tune in via the extendable ears. It was becoming second nature to her to grab the ears and position herself by the bookshelf in the hall.
“Perhaps, it's because Rosie claims to have beat you in Quidditch,” said Hermione.
“I sustained an injury, Hermione.” said Harry. “Plus, it wasn't Rose alone. It was her and Al teamed up together who beat me, two-on-one.”
“Ah, I see,” said Hermione, her voice dripping in mirth.
“I’m happy for them.” Harry told her.
“You look it,” laughed Hermione.
“No, if I’m being honest, I’m furious about that fucking reporter,”
“Oh, that.” said Hermione sympathetically. “She tried the same thing on Tuesday? Ginny mentioned it.”
“Tuesday and also yesterday,” said Harry moodily.
“I’m going to take care of it, Harry. I think we all have enough on her at this point to involve the Wizengamot.”
“Cheers, Hermione.” said Harry darkly. “I can't believe how intrusive people can be.” From the hall, Olivia shifted her stance uncomfortably while holding on to the extendable ears.
“Yes, no boundaries or respect for anyone’s privacy,” muttered Hermione. She began to assiduously lay out a list of Wizarding Laws that would be pertinent to the case she was building against the reporter. The depth of Hermione’s research both impressed and terrified Olivia. At the very least, it reminded her that what she was doing at the Auror Offices with the extendable ears was beyond a doubt illegal.

Harry/Draco (2022, Explicit, 77k)
Deep in the heart of the Ministry lies the Beast Division: a hidden room where ancient beasts roam, and winged creatures soar, and grumpy giant ferrets eat all your biscuits unless you keep them well hidden. Draco Malfoy would know – he’s been working there for five years now, after all.
Meanwhile, on Level One, ex-Golden Boy Harry Potter is stuck in another interminable policy meeting, completely unaware of the mysterious comings and goings just three floors below. But when a giant snake emergency requires the assistance of a Parselmouth, Harry finds himself thrust, unprepared, into Draco’s weird and wonderful world – and naturally, he can’t keep away…
“All these creatures, and you. You’re not… bothered, you know? They’re all pretty powerful, but you know exactly how to handle them. You’re not scared of them, or anything like that.”
Behold everyone, the magical creature fic we all deserve!! Forget Fantastic Beasts, I would give anything to see this incredible journey on the big screen. From a moving plot to lush visuals, impressive world building and a poignant slow burn, this has all the elements that would make for an incredible movie, and a award-winner at that. The amount of care that went into every tiny detail, the brave decision to explore Harry’s loneliness and deteriorated mental health, plus Draco’s breathtaking characterization and arc, the unique creativity surrounding the magical creatures and their lore! This fic is so rich and detailed it even pays homage to other beloved Drarry works and I had so much fun trying to identify the little references. It’s very clear this was a labour of love and I’ll try my best to make it justice highlighting my favourite elements that deserve some extra appreciation.
First and foremost, the plot. This is NOT your usual “down and out Draco & depressed Harry” meet-cute kind of story. Having Draco secretly work with creatures was such a clever and inventive plot point, he has a quite devastating background and I love the mystery surrounding his post-war life that we slowly puzzle together alongside Harry. The first chapter is a banger and immediately captured my attention with Harry’s chaotic and loud routine as opposed to the quietness of Draco’s Beast Division. You’ll find yourself immersed not only in their main story but also in a brilliant side plot involving politician Lucius in the Muggle world. It was so well-thought, intriguing and original, I loved it!
The pacing also deserves a shoutout, for a long fic this was such a smooth read that I basically devoured in two days. The narrative is a mix of intriguing, funny, heartbreaking and romantic. My kind of long fic! The slow burn is absolutely impeccable, charming and organic, realistic but also full of UST (whoever thought a pet bathing scene could be THAT sexy? SS is showing her devotion to Suds here 😏). And omg this Draco is delicious, competent and stubborn with his dark overalls and tough, capable look (we get it Harry, that’s just your objective assessment!!!) and his single-minded, no-bullshit but gentle approach which is exactly what Harry needs to spark his curiosity. They both start this story so lost and lonely and it’s a privilege to see them find themselves (and each other) along the way. Their personalities complement one another beautifully and we notice all the nuances of Harry’s improving mood as he finds a safe haven and a new purpose working with Draco.
Here you’ll also find INCREDIBLE creatures and complex side characters, yes please! I cannot handle adorable Pandita, hilarious Potter the Jarvey, the baby Mooncalf!!! They have quirky and vibrant personalities bringing Harry and Draco’s funny and tender sides to the surface. I’m also very much here for this fascinating Muggle Narcisa and Ministry boss Hermione. This fic is a magical, heartfelt journey and getting to see Harry and Draco’s “happily ever after” was so satisfying. Each boy broke my heart in different ways but they get to heal together and they get to stay together and oh my heart, but they’re so good together. I love the idea of them exploring the wildlife in blissful domesticity afterwards, with bonus points for those sexy times full of scar worship and fat appreciation (done in a very thoughtful, gentle way!). And speaking of smut, I love that Draco’s pride and confidence counter-balances his inexperience, and Harry’s thirst for him is so relatable and adorable “your bloody arms and all the scars, ugh just leave me alone!!!” same Harry, same 😂
I had a blast discovering this wonderful world SS created for them, her genius mind and love for the ship present in every scene. It warmed my heart and made me appreciate even more all the hard work she put into telling this story. The world building is rich and well executed and I didn’t want it to end. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Draco and Harry and those lovely creatures but the healing journey was so special it felt earned. Lastly but just as important to mention as this is an essential part of the story: we have the absolute privilege to contemplate sixteen (!!!) mindblowing art pieces by the one and only Joy and they’re so full of heart and meaning, I felt truly spoiled. The mooncalf dancing scene, in particular, will be forever imprinted in my mind. This is the best read to indulge tonight or tomorrow to celebrate the weekend, go ahead and treat yourself!!!
