It's 100% pedantic and unnecessary on my part but I can't help but push back in my head when people analyze Ed and Stede's first time and say it was "the wrong decision"/"a bad idea"/"[something that] shouldn't have happened"

It may be because I'm an AuDHD trying to break free of the mind prison that is perfectionism, but I object to the idea that something that is good and wanted and needed in the moment is "the wrong idea" just because it has unwanted consequences afterwards. Delayed gratification is a nice idea in theory, but your brain just doesn't work like that sometimes. Sometimes your ability to be patient and work towards long term goals is nonexistent because you're too fucking stressed to handle that kind of work. To punish yourself for giving into short term pleasure is to deny the fact that you cannot bend your brain to arbitrary plans without accounting for your own needs.

Stede and Ed were always destined to fail to take things slow, one way or another. They're not in an environment where they're allowed to go at their own pace. External forces keep trying to pull them apart and end their lives. They got tortured along with their entire crew just when they thought they could relax and enjoy themselves for once. Stede killed a man in cold blood and broke down over it. Of course their plans to take things slow fell apart. They nearly lost each other and saw each other suffer in ways they hadn't before - of course they wanted, no, needed intimacy. Who wouldn't, in their place?

Yes, this does complicate things for them afterwards. Yes, Ed regrets it. But hindsight is 20/20. It's easy to fixate on one thing that didn't go according to plan and blame it for every problem you're having at the moment. The truth is that the problems they're having (Ed wanting to give up the pirate life while Stede leans more and more into it) would have surfaced eventually either way, and there's no guarantee that them not having sex would have made things any easier.

Activities you can really do with Kaneki:

Go to the grocery store and buy a new cereal. If it’s late at night and there’s no other customers, he might even agree to sit in the cart while you push him around

Fold paper planes and throw them around the house! Unless you have Tsukiyama’s money the house might be too small for them to ever go far, but it’d be fun watching him so carefully fold his plane knowing it could only go 5 meters before being stopped by the wall. Unless you go outside

Take a taxi! Imagine the incredible feeling of sitting next to the real Kaneki Ken in the backseat of a car. I was in a cab for 12 minutes once while I was in Tokyo and it was amazing! It’s so cool driving through the city at night and it’d be even cooler with Kaneki there.

You could show Kaneki a cool rock or pinecone! I think he would always try to have something to say about it. Hopefully he’s not too judgemental, but he’s cute like that anyway ( I can imagine him asking if you always do that lol)

Go to the aquarium. I think aquariums can be good entertainment whether you’re into fish or not, and Kaneki is sure to find various marine specimens cooler than the stamp museum. He would read every plaque to you!

THE LIBRARY. Extremely obvious one considering how much he likes to read and him having his own library card, but it’d be so cute seeing him show you around and try recommending you titles!! He could navigate that place with his eyes closed and he’d always find a private corner to sit in. He might just forget you’re there once he’s settled and reading though

Watch the way his eyelashes flutter when he blinks against the sunlight. Maybe some lashes are different shades than others, or simply catch the light differently

Get a leaf laminated with him. This one came to me in a dream, basically we went for a walk in the park (also something you can do with him!) and I found a nice red leaf, then the next day he came home with it laminated! Really nice of him to do :)

Visit different coffee shops and write down your thoughts about them in a little notebook. Amon does this and I think Kaneki should too. Maybe get them to team up and they can work together to try find a place that sells both good donuts and good coffee

Visit a bridge with him!!!!!!!!!! Imagine going for a nice walk with him and being able to look over the water with him it’d be so nice, he could have his canned coffee and you could ask if he knows any poems with metaphors about bridges

Find an old martial arts master in the mountains and make him learn how to kick ass better
