"vote biden to stop project 2025" fails as an argument when project 2025 is already happening under biden

Do you even know what Project 2025 even is? Because, no, it is NOT happening yet. Do you see thousands of Democrats and "leftist" Republicans like Mitt Romney (no, really, MAGA considers Romney a leftist) being forcefully removed from office and replaced by Trump yes-men? Because that will be the start of Project 2025. All we have seen thus far is the Far Right's preparation for their takeover and their threats of violence.

As for your insinuation that Biden is behind Project 2025, it is EXPLICITLY a conservative (which is generally Republican) playbook whose goal is to wipe out and silence all political opposition, including and especially Democrats.

The reason why some of the plans laid out in Project 2025 are "already underway," such as the overturning of Roe v Wade, is because of the three judges Trump elected into the Supreme Court, which as of now is comprised almost entirely of Republicans loyal to Trump and Project 2025. The Supreme Court is intended to work separately from the president and, in this case, it is actively working AGAINST Biden and FOR Trump.

This election, two Republican Supreme Court justices will be retiring and replaced by judges of the new President's choosing, which makes things even more dire, since Supreme Justices run for life (well, until retirement). If Trump wins, we will be stuck with a Far Right SCOTUS that aligns with the goals of MAGA for decades to come. If Biden wins, then we will get two new Democratic judges, giving some balance to the currently almost entirely Republican Supreme Court.

And this is another reason we need to vote blue. Even if Project 2025 wasn't a thing to be worried about, this election will be our last chance to fix SCOTUS and undo the current Supreme Court's damage in a very long time.

We need to vote blue.

The problem with the romance genre, perhaps more particularly the romantasy genre, is that it is romanticising toxicity.

Now, don't take this the wrong way - I am in no shape or form saying you should not enjoy a book just because it does this. The whole point behind a lot of these books (bearing in mind the majority of this post will address romantasy books, as I am better versed in them than the more run-of-the-mill romance books) is that they are fiction. They are not supposed to be a reflection of real life, or a guide to it. So we should not justify fictional red-flags in real life.

Everyone has faults, but there is a huge difference between a flaw and a toxic trait. The romanticism of toxicity in books is primarily so dangerous because it is not talked about enough, and so is not acknowledged; surely, this is even more dangerous in the romantasy genre, where the removal from our world makes resulting justifications unconscious.

This post is a little bit all over the place, a collection of half strung together thoughts, but I hope it gets you to reflect more on the relationships between characters in books. Violence for love is not always a good thing, nor is jealousy. 'Protective' is fine, but there is a line that should not be crossed between protective and possessive, and that line is becoming hopelessly blurred. This is just one example. Please, please remember: your life doesn't stop at the end of a few hundred pages, or after three books. It continues well beyond that, and whilst some traits may be endearing at first, it is important to recognise that after a bit of time they may become stifling. Do not hurt yourself in an attempt to live a fictional life - those lives are fictional for a reason.

Additionally, this romanticism is feeding into the 'I can fix them' movement. By justifying these traits, you are telling people that it is okay to behave in this manner, to treat others in this manner. Whilst I am not discounting that people can change and grow, and some perhaps need help from others to do this, I cannot emphasise enough just how dangerous this is. People should be held to a standard for a reason, and you should not settle for less.

I hope I have made you think. The romanticism of toxicity is something that needs to be discussed more by readers, and even media producers. You will sabotage your chance at a happy ending if you try too hard to emulate these fictional idols in fictional worlds, cultures, and societies.

Finally, remember that you can enjoy reading about an unhealthy relationship, you can find toxic characters hot or the like - just recognise, even to yourself, that the traits/relationships are toxic and harmful. That you would not actually want that in real life, with your circumstances and experiences, and without the character's unlikely wealth/magic etc.

Do not settle for less because a fiction book has taught you that it is acceptable. It is not.

the extremist right that wants to implement Project 2025 wants to decide how this society handles sex. it's not abortion or contraception (INCLUDING CONDOMS) they want to ban but porn, too. they will decide what is considered porn & will make not just LGBTQIA+ folks suffer but librarians, too. they want a very misinformed populace so now vulnerable people like children won't be able to tell if something that is happening to them could be abuse or not.

the possibilities are endless when it comes to this. they hate sex & want to punish you for having safe, fun, & casual sex & yet they literally blow up Grindr whenever they all come together because they hate themselves so much & misery loves company. they want to punish anyone who could teach you anything that would indicate they're evil & hypocritical & what they're doing will fuck up all of our lives. it's a chain reaction.
