Hey Tolkien people and history buffs of Tumblr, I'm in need of your assistance. Does anybody know if there was an actual historical inspiration (or many) to the narrow, no rails, stone bridge of Khazad-dûm?

For context, I'm trying to use it as an example in my theoretical physics dissertation on the dynamics of pedestrians moving in a single line, but I've already met with some resistance from advisors with No Taste. All my google searches have conducted to analyses of the effectiveness of the Khazad-dûm scene in the book & movie, instead of an analysis of the actual "physical" bridge.

I know I could use other modern examples from construction scaffolds or bus and plane boarding/exiting schemes for single-line movement, but that's boring. Uninspired. Everyone does it. What I want is a badass illustration from The Lord of the Rings, and a JRR Tolkien quote on my very theoretical, so abstract that is basically useless, physics dissertation.

Hi everyone, this isn't going to be like my other posts but I do want people to see it.

A while back a mother had reached out to me from Gaza on Instagram to help share their gofundme so that she and the rest of her family could evacuate into Egypt.

They were displaced to the south of the Gaza strip and during that time she had given birth to her new baby daughter. Now they are living in one of the many tents that are in Rafah, with the hopes to be able to take their children to safety as soon as possible.

Her husband, Mohammed, has a brother who is organizing the fundraiser so that the Mohammed family can get to safety.

I know that this seems out of nowhere, especially considering that there are terrible people who scam others pretending to need help to evacuate. But for a while I had been planning to post something for this family since I've seen the mothers profile ( lalosham on Instagram ) and have seen her posts. I also had asked her permission to make a post on here and she let me. Had this genocide never started she wouldn't have had to post her children begging for people to help donate.

This is probably one of the only posts where I DO want people to share and reblog as much as they can. While you may not be able to donate, I know for sure that you can reblog, and that reblog can help show it to someone who is able to donate.

Sure! Artfight is an online art-trading event that happens for the entire month of July, on artfight.net— every year, two “themes” are revealed, and participating artists will pick one of them to be on that “team.” You can upload reference pictures and explanations of your ocs to your profile page on artfight, and throughout the month, artists can draw other users’ characters and send them as “attacks,” ideally drawing characters from artists on the opposite team to earn points for their own team (though many artists (including myself) will just join/participate to draw their friends’ ocs and characters they think would be fun to draw, regardless of the teams)!

If you’re trying to figure out how to send an attack, you should be able to find the “Attacks” option on the drop down on the top right of the artfight home page (under the ‘Manage’ section, not ‘Messages’), and on that page you should be able to select “Submit New Attack!” from there, you’ll fill out anything you want to say about the attack, upload your images (as well as a 200x200 pixel thumbnail)l what “level” of drawing it is (how much you colored it, if you shaded it, if there’s a background, etc), and the website will calculate how many points you’ve earned for your team based on all of those categories and wether or not the artist you’re attacking is on your team or not!

Unfortunately, there’s only a few more days left in this year’s artfight, so you won’t be able to earn points for your team after August 3rd, but nothing can stop you from drawing others’ OCs for fun and posting them here after the event! Or you can always wait for next years fight if you want to take part in the team fight itself! But that being said you can join at any time even if it’s just for one week or one day or whatever!
