Sleep demon Grian rambles <3

Turns out that "one day" is today. (i love my enablers @linkito and @writing-and-worrying <3)

so. alright. here we go. the au rambles :3 (bonus art at the end)

grian is a sleep demon, and at the start of this au, this means that he exists only in the dreams/the dreamscape. he's a chaos gremlin, as per usual, and he usually thrives on giving people nightmares.

he meets scar in scar's dreams.

he immediately latches onto him, finding scar interesting (and his reactions hilarious). he loves to spook him and all that, but the more time he spends in scar's dreams, the more something in him shifts.

at some point, scar notices him. this recurring character that always slides into shadows, watching. the giggling that sounds off from terrifying places. and scar, well, he is scared, of course he is, but he's also intrigued. there's something at play here, and he's going to figure it out.

while this all happens, scar isn't getting much rest. nightmares aren't good for that. which means, he's spending more time sleeping. which means grian spends more time bugging him.

when they finally meet properly in scar's dreams and start hanging out, grian finds that scar is nice to him. it's something he doesn't expect, doesn't quite know how to deal with. (scar's supposed to be scared. antagonistic. upset. annoyed. not this—not bright smiles and gentle tone, soft giggles and kindness.)

grian finds that he's actually been feeling lonely this whole time. and he doesn't quite know how to process it or what to do about it. (it just makes him clingier to scar tbh.)

and, here's the thing: grian wasn't always a dreamscape-only dwelling demon. he used to have a body. he used to have access to both realms. unbeknownst to him (he doesn't remember any of this), at some point in the past, he made a conscious decision to stay in the dreamscape world. (it felt safer to him.) trauma, memory loss, etcetc. he's not aware of these things.

all they know is that grian's lonely and stuck and scar wants to help him. he figures out a potential way - a summoning spell for demons. that should work, right?

so. he tells mumbo (they live together mkay) that he's going to sleep. he tells him to make the summoning circle. he tells him they're going to bring back a li'l demon guy while he sleeps :3

scar then explains to grian, in the dream, that he's going to be okay. that he can live with them, that they're going to summon him out of the sleep realm.

and they do summon him.

scar told him it's going to happen, but grian doesn't know what it means. he's not prepared for how overwhelming it'll feel, to be in an unfamiliar place and to have a body. on top of that, there's a tall, darkly dressed stranger (mumbo).

and so grian gets summoned, and maaaaybe he ends up having a small panic attack about it all <3 (and mumbo possibly panics in return. and scar's still asleep—)

aNYWAY.

grian still doesn't really remember ever having a body before. but now that he's out of the dreamscape, his skin is littered with scars he has no memory of, and everything's a little bit scary and a whole lot new, and he doesn't know how to navigate the realm or how to take care of himself. (he doesn't realise his physical body has needs, like eating or sleeping, and neither do scar and mumbo for a while, assuming that maybe he doesn't do those things simply because he's a demon.)

imagine grian getting more and more confused the more exhausted he is, unaware that sleep is the solution. things get blurry, his thoughts get heavy, he's groggy and sluggish... it all freaks him out, until eventually he crashes, curled up. (the others tuck him in and watch over him.)

basically, lots of opportunities for comfort. (and for them all being clueless idiots mhm.)

another thing to imagine: grian is awake and scar goes to sleep. and scar's dreams suddenly feel so quiet and peaceful and empty. he hates it.

one more thing to throw out there: grian trauma and his scars and memory loss, right? grian gets summoned naked, and so mumbo immediately gets a glimpse of all of his scars. maybe at some point, he has a hushed, concerned conversation about it with scar. about how the scars around grian's wrists look like they come from magical shackles. (maybe he recognises those in particular because scar has some similar markings on his skin from something in his past.) and there's a bite mark. (mumbo's a vampire and so he's familiar with how those look, and this gets him very concerned for grian.) and maybe there's a different scar shape that scar recognises at some point or another.

fun fact, there's a scar over grian's chest from when someone wanted to check if demons have a heart :3

also. consider this. grian's a demon. he has claws and horns and sharp edges and bat wings and everything, but. but his hair. his hair is so pale and so very soft.

i have more thoughts but i think this is it for now :3

And just to be clear, writing dissertations at me justifying why he should instead be a conventionally attractive twink will involuntarily cause me to draw him with even fewer teeth.

I have this idea/theory that like when Bruce was just starting out, early twenties, “im going to make a difference!” batman, he was like known, somewhat, by at least most of the crinimals, oh some dude dressed as a bat beat up larry the other day? Hm. skill issue. Type of thing..

And then one night, theres a goon on patrol for some little operation. A more… violent goon lets say. And Bruce lands in front of him, cape billowing, white eyes narrowed, and the goon is like “shiii he does look pretty cool. Fuck ‘im tho.” and he does what any other goon would do, he pulls out his gun and fires. Once. Twice. Three times. 

He sees the bullets make contact. Watches as they hit the suit. Go through it. Because this is still prototype four or five, its not fully kevlar, atp its still basically just cloth with some armor in certain places. 

The goon can see blood circles forming where the bullets hit. Blood drips to the floor. But Bruce? Bruce keeps on walking towards him, not a limp or waver in his step. Because its Gotham. Because if he wasn't willing and prepared to get shot at he should've picked a different city. 

And thats when The Bat becomes infamous. Because what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck he just keeps coming- i shot him three times-!

And years later, when Dick is on clean up duty as punishment for some elaborate stunt he pulled, organizing old files and plugging them into the batcomputer, he finds the file. And holy shit. Thats- actually kinda cool…

Need a teen! Bruce au where he’s exactly like Justice League! Batman and Battinson in one. That mf put the fear of every god in Ra’s Al Ghul.

Everytime he’s in a room with someone over 30 “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance plays in the background.

Despite that, in his own way, he’s as gentle as can be with his league. Give me a young Diana who’s getting spat on and ripped apart by the media in a way not one of her male teammates get.

And she’s Wonder Woman. She shouldn’t be affected by it. And she is, anyway. Bruce relates to that in an uncomfortable degree.

He has a tiny Robin he occasionally has to keep on a leash.

Give me somewhat teen mom Bruce who struggles to wrangle his unruly six year old who likes flipping from rooftop to rooftop and thinks fighting Bane is a piece of cake.

“If Tati can do it, so can I!”

“Dick,” he paused, before handing him a handfull of candy. “Wonderful emotional manipulation. Good job.”
