haven’t been on much bc my dog has been sick :( between seizures and an infected tooth we’ve been having a Time trying to get everything fixed (this started around the holidays so our vet has been very booked up…we have been like 3-4 times in the past 4-5 weeks OTL does not help it’s like an hour drive there, so that’s been exhausting) now his new seizure meds are making him sick (was hoping it was like, just an adjustment period thing but he’s been sick for a week and having concerning symptoms…) if I’m not on a ton or slow to replying to messages it’s bc I’m working as much overtime as my job will give me bc Vet Expensive and mentally drained obvi 😞

The squares I drew for that comic had all of the "big" predictions I could remember making about the game, and I barely had enough to fill out what I drew in that panel. And despite trying to avoid spoilers like the plague, I have a handful of no-context pieces of info that make guessing what's going to happen in the rest of Act 3 feel a little unfair. I'm sorry!!

It hadn't felt like very long ago since he'd last been in this position, caught in the act by somebody he'd really rather not tangle with. Before however it had been a less serious incident, Copperhead merely choking a security guard to unconsciousness before another person entered the scene. What were the odds of it happening again, and by the same person no less? This time however, things were far more serious. Copperhead was not here to steal some trifling data or valuable coveted by another. No, tonight he'd been hired to kill, and getting caught in the act of killing always led to complications... Serpentine tongue flickered as he caught Matt's scent in the air, his powerful tail still tightly wrapped around the corpse wrapped up in his coils. His victim, a man in his forties had little chance of fending off the scaled metahuman whose fangs, claws and coils summarily made short work of him. He hadn't even had time to grab his gun, the weapon having fallen to the wayside after the resulting struggle before Copperhead overpowered his victim. He'd been too slow in finishing off his target, and now a familiar scent had reached his searching tongue, the snake-like assassin still holding his latest victim close. It wasn't as though letting go of him would fool the newcomer that he hadn't just murdered the guy in cold blood; Copperhead had tangled with this particular person in the past and this time, he doubted the newcomer would be so easy to slip away from.

"The Man in Black. We meet again." Copperhead remarked simply as Matt stepped into view. The victim's head slumped back as his killer moved, Copperhead's muscles grew tauter still beneath his coat of shimmering scales. He resembled every bit the predator he appeared to be, brutal claws unsheated and flexed for the inevitable fight-or flight. And, having crossed paths with Matt once already, the outlook of a fight was much more likely now.

Dude you should be so so so so so proud, literally one of the best pieces I've ever read. It's the angst and complex characterization of Baldwin's Giovanni's Room meets the research behind The Alienist (the book, obvi- haven't actually seen the show yet). I adore how you maintained the characters' personal values even though I don't like them most of the time, and I now know way too much about the military in general because I would wikipedia something every third sentence. (Also thanks for that because coincidentally I'm working on a research project on how low-level fighter jet training affects marine animal behaviour, and I actually passed my first oral with flying colours because of the random knowledge I have acquired while reading/because of your fic.) That being said, I desperately want a physical copy on my bookshelf- would you ever feel comfortable distributing one or letting us go get it printed professionally? If not, I totally understand and am more than happy with what we have access to now! Seriously, thank you- it's incredible.

1. i am very proud!!! just extremely editorbrained ie have been trying to fix all the flaws for the last two months straight, and now all i see are problems & flaws that i couldn’t fix…. you guys should see my hard copy of this fic every single page is basically black with pencil. just ripped it to shreds. it’s just a writer thing i think, i am my own worst critic :(

2. if by personal values you mean political opinions … I wish it were like socially acceptable to post my extremely in-depth headcanons about random shit like this because i am so deep in it that i literally wrote out ice and mav’s voting records since 1980. Tldr: conservaDems. registered R but consistently vote D. mav would vote libertarian if his husband weren’t standing over him threatening divorce. after 1/6/21 change their registration to D & are basically just neolib shills. only reason they don’t vote obama in 2008 is that mccain was a navy vet.

3. thank you for the compliment but i am literally BEGGING you guys not to take anything i say/claim in this fic about the military to be true. there are certainly elements of the truth but many of the details i literally just made up. or altered to make plot sense (see IRST discussion ch 9, IRST was SUGGESTED by Boeing in 2007/8, not implemented until 2010ish). so much of the plot simply would not happen in real life. i can make a whole post about this sometime if people are interested cause there is actually so much I could say about real life accuracy in this fic/implications of real life shit…

4. no way???? that research project sounds so interesting??? congrats on passing ur oral!! idk what that means but congrats!!!! coincidentally i am also working on a research project—it’s why i have to stop working on this fic at some point. my senior research thesis is a novel about USAF CSAR chopper pilots so ive been doing so much research over the last 5 months… but about the USAF not the USN. my navy research HAS helped though. so maybe it’s a mutually reciprocal relationship :) i would love to hear more about ur project!!!

Ahhh thank you for sending this in and indulging me in this Talk Shop Tuesday situation!! (Can I make that officially a thing? I want to make it officially a thing!)

But yes!! Okay Infection Verse Gatty as parents!

Fictional!George is the fun parents and Fictional!Matty is the strict one - he is also super nervous and terrified about everything and can be a little helicopter-y until Fictional!George reels him in. He's always like "WTF how are you so calm right now?!" and Fictional!George is like "umm I've been in love with your dumb ass for over twenty years at this point. I'm used to it."

Fictional!Matty is a very involved parent - he's at every school event and activity he can possibly be at, he volunteers at school and in the classroom, he is determined to make sure Ava never feels like a burden to his parents the way he did and he loves her so, so much. Some of the other parents are a little taken aback by him, they obviously know *who* he is and were NOT expecting him to be so hands on. (You better believe Fictional!Matty is making cookies for the bake sale and of course he's willing to drive the girls to football/soccer practice Brenda... he's also not above making a donation to the underfunded school programs, anonymously of course.) Fictional!George is also at every event and activity, but leaves most of the volunteering to Fictional!Matty- he is however the designated homework parent.

Ava physically looks a lot like Fictional!Matty, dark curly hair, dark eyes, petite, however even though she is not biologically his, she has Fictional!George's personality. Very caring and can be quiet, and does have an explosive temper that sometimes makes an appearance. To the dismay of both of her parents, (not that they would ever let her know that!) she has absolutely no interest in music whatsoever. Ava is a sports girlie through and through. Which, paired with Fictional!Matty's genetics means she is a bit accident prone, at least in her youth, and Fictional!Matty gets to spend more time than he ever expected in the A&E waiting room- not as a patient this time but a very freaked out father who is going to ask the doctor thirty times if she is sure that doesn't need stitches while Ava and Fictional!George try not to laugh. They continue to to be close with Fictional!Matty's family - Ava loves her Uncle Louis, Fictional!George's family is another story... maybe another fic?
