Maybe think about why you care so much about calling gerard way a woman to the extent that you equate it as the only correct way to engage with their work, as if art as well as support for the trans community can’t have value by itself, as if that isn’t the point, not their literal personal internal experience of gender that’s no one’s business, the same way trying to decide if anyone is trans is not your business if that person doesn’t want to tell you or talk about it with you, because it’s gender essentialist, and why it’s so baffling to you that a celebrity in general but especially gerard way might want to avoid labels or this specific type of intrusive categorization , as they have explicitly stated as well as created music that is about the same thing. And shouldnt we live in a world where someone can present gnc, and talk about experiences with gender and with femininity in honest ways, without people not just obsessing over whether that means they’re “really a woman” but outright deciding, and acting like they are. That’s a narrow fucking definition of womanhood. And shouldn't we value that authenticity from people who don’t want to choose a label as much as we do from people who identify in ways they do choose to label, (labels or the lack of btw have never been individual terms but tools for relating or not relating ourselves to the world in specific ways,) Isn’t that a better more open and beautiful mode of creating relationships to each other? Why does gerard need to be a woman to you? Why are you so obsessed with this? Why is transness and queerness and gender nonconformity itself, to you, some kind of item, an object or artifact for distribution upon others — and it is not in fact “creating cisnormativity” to accept the way a person wants to relate their identity to an audience. There are lots of trans women and transfeminine people who are doing everything gerard way is doing for transness and much more. If you want to call someone a woman go call a woman a woman. If you want to celebrate trans joy go celebrate trans joy. Please by all means do I will celebrate with you I am celebrating with you and I am doing it while listening to my chemical romance. So what’s the point in acting like this. I really don't get it. But it concerns me because this isn't the only time I've witnessed this kind of attitude and although its well-intentioned and "playful" its ultimately weird, ultimately harmful. So honestly, if this really feels "low-stakes" to you it might be because you've never dealt with the kinds of situations where the stakes exist, or considered the perspective of someone who has a different relationship to the stakes of your argument than you do.

Because not to be dramatic, but these stakes are the same stakes relevant to the literal record numbers of legislation currently being passed in the US using bioessentialism and gender essentialism to install systems of state-controlled gender-enforcing and forced gendering of trans and non-trans gnc children in schools and in healthcare. What you're doing is, if on a small scale, still contributing to the same conceptualization of gender as these laws, and as the people who passed them, even if you're well intentioned and hate the laws, even if your beliefs are reversed, the framework is the same, and that framework is going to empower the dominant culture, not yours. That's how power works. Which is why it's stupid. It's literally just stupid. And it hurts trans people who have had experiences in the real world where people are just as intrusive as you are being about trying to interpret their gender, and you’re no different for trying to clock people. If you don't know the stakes of your words, you should learn them before you use those words. Just because you're in a bubble of people who agree with you and think this is just about being either "right" or "wrong" about gerard way's gender and wanting to be "right" doesn't dismiss you from the meaning of the actual words you are saying and the ideologies informing your beliefs, whether or not you're aware of them, because the rest of us aren't trying to be right, we're not living in a this-or-that world in the first place. Personally I don't know them. I've appreciated & engaged with what they have said about their experiences with gender as well as their art while also respecting their statements about not liking labels, and treated their silence on their own identity as intentional, because I like knowing what words, and the absences of words, mean

Big Screen, I Notice More Stuff: That club is called MANSION. So already these two characters are speaking in code to each other, which is an amazing storytelling device on Mann's behalf, and you can shake so much out of that.

Derived from the above: "My Mommy and Daddy know me," hilarious line btw, becomes double-doublespeak, quadruple-speak! Not only is he pretending to tell the truth under a fabricated fundamental, the statement itself is yet another subtextual lie. His parents don't really know him, they just thought they did, which is why he's run off to become what he's become. Rico is the partner who acts out of duty first, love secondarily; Sonny is the Byronic inverse. Diaspora southern gothic. I like to think this is the mythic re-interpretation/inspiration Mann wishes a certain American population would draw from, in lieu of... current political/pop cultural figureheads.

Gina tenderly comforting the injured Zito... this shot is seconds long and yet captures my heart every time! Where is the backstory fic for these two!

The "color coding" in this film is bonkers. More on that eventually, I'm still chewing on it.

The duality of Man(n)ager: the tragic pathos imbued to Alonzo vs. the vaudevillian coercion of Nicholas. "Why is this happening to me?!" cracks me the fuck up. This most powerful, literally biblical quandary of them all, the whole of Mann's filmography boiled down to its most singular and direct (I.E., truthful) expression, in the form of a persecuted exclamation, and it's played for laughs. Saying something very real (and I'm not saying to be mean, i just think it needs to be said! Ruin Dlc spoilers ahead)

I love eclipse but i hope people don't fight too much over what's canon and what's not. like with calling interpretations canon when we are not entirely sure if something is confirmed! Eclipse is very, very new and there's lots to be discussed, at least this early on the game. (Some of us didn't even finish playing!)

All I'm saying is, for example, when people talk about eclipse using he/him pronouns (streamers, people who just got to know them), even though the voice actor referred to them as they/them, please dont be angry at them! I agree that eclipse uses they/them. But i also didn't know before, someone told me about how to refer to them after i had used he/him ( and i correct myself now)

Even before with sun and moon we were confused over how to refer to them because there was no clear definition of their identity (freddy calling them "it", calling them only "the daycare attendant", and other places like books and details in the game using different terms on them, causing people to fight over how to refer to them. Seriously, it was a whole thing, we didn't even know what sun and moon's relationship with each other was, they only talk about each other in the dlc! Why do you think the dca fandom is so diverse?)

There is going to be confusion over what eclipse is, i personally think they are a third identity. in the game, sun is called sun, moon is called moon, eclipse is called eclipse. They have their own voice and own mannerisms, and don't seem to be aware of the pizzaplex’s conditions- (he's got the whole "I'm a new animatronic and im ready for work!" Energy) he somehow get aspects of sun and moon but also have their own aspects, something entirely new.

But.. i could be proven wrong in the future, what do i know? Im open to listen to different theories as long as we dont make a war over it (because it just doesn't make sense)

Ok I’m doing a rewatch and I noticed that when Kelvin is getting off the plane besides a cross he’s wearing an anchor pendant which is an odd choice for a flight (some might even consider wearing a symbol associated with water while in a plane to be a bad omen) however it also does symbolize stability and grounded lines which, compared, to his siblings he definitely is. Like Jesse and Judy are going to split that million dollars and Kelvin didn’t ask for a share. The pendant that Jesse wears often is a cross within a shield just as Jesse (as well as other characters) uses Christianity as a defense for his actions/wealth.

huh! i never noticed the anchor necklace but that's interesting. considering most of kelvin's accessories are religious-themed or otherwise basic, it makes the anchor choice stand out. i like the stability read, especially because in early season one he is presented as the sibling with the strongest moral compass and is the most pious member of the family.

in s1 kelvin also wears a necklace that looks like the silver outline of a half heart filled in with black that i can't identify. for all i know, it may be a common religious symbol, but i've never seen it before! any ideas?

the cross inside the shield necklace!! i believe the origin of that design is a reference to a bible scripture that says "the lord is my strength and my shield," but now i'm stoked because kelvin and keefe both wear the cross inside the shield necklace quite a bit in season two (and, please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think they only wear them in season two). in fact, they're wearing identical shield/cross necklaces during the provocative scene when keefe drops to his knees to dress an otherwise naked kelvin 😳... perhaps, in line with your interpretation for jesse wearing that necklace, kelvin and keefe are using christianity as a shield against giving in to temptation with each other.

Hello everyone welcome to my library. I’m the librarian, Alexa, the main point of this library is to detail information about various political ideologies and general philosophical ideas.

The idea is to learn about different political ideologies and philosophical ideas and then detail out their beliefs and ideals, just generally what they’re all about and hopefully people can use this to possibly find this information and make an informed decision about what they believe, I also want this to hopefully act as a useful source for people who are interested in studying political ideas and general philosophy so they can more easily find information and sources, essentially I want this to act as a decent source and jumping off point for those studies

I also want to use this to share various forms of literature, essays, videos etc etc for people to use this in their research. I hope this blog can also help people to make more informed decisions about what they believe and what others (specifically politicians) actually believe especially those who are coming of voting age, in a world where different political parties and belief systems tend to hide their true beliefs and attempt to suppress information I want to give an easy place for people to find them.

Along with sharing different sources, I’m also going to provide my notes on those sources for those who may be interested as well as allow some who may be follow the specific ideas the work touches on to maybe correct or expand on my interpretations before I make a breakdown post on the specific idea (of course people are still welcome to provide corrections and expansion even once I’ve made the post I will happily make corrections, just message me or comment I want this to be as accurate as possible) I will also create discussion threads for people to share ideas, information or their interpretations about the ideas (not argue! Please do not argue with others within the comments or reblogs of my posts this is meant to be a safe space for civil discussion, disagreements and discussion are fine, fighting is not)

The average-looking women is considered more beautiful than in other countries. Body positivity is real in Denmark. We have two three solid things against her, the art theft, multiple lies and so on but even the fan accounts are quiet 🤐 so we get no outside support.

I want to talk about her appearance too btw!!!!!! The difference between her own posts and unfiltered ones are insane but I‘d feel more comfortable to do that in a private groupchat not to give her the satisfaction of playing a victim. You’re blog is fun and this is just a friendly suggestion, maybe you offer a groupchat on Instagram for these type of conversations 😅 or other subjects. I can totally understand your perspective, and I agree that some comments/opinions shared here are not the most political correct, but it has also been my goal to provide everyone a space with as much freedom as possible, where everyone can express all of their opinions, either positive or negative, and interact with each other even if the conversation sometimes gets a little off topic. I know doing this on a public blog might not always be ideal, but if anything, it shows a real picture of the fandom — the good side, the bad side and everything in between. Because if we feel the need to "hide" our thoughts (considering we're not harassing people directly, of course — that is something I personally do not condone), doesn't that denote some kind of censorship as well? Which was exactly what led me to start this blog in the first place — seeing fans being "attacked" by other fans on IG for having different opinions. From my perspective, having different opinions is a good thing, and if we can discuss them in a civil manner, we might actually learn something along the way, or consider things we hadn't before. I know I already have, in the few months of this blog's existence. 😊 Moreover, a public space is always easier to find for new fans who are just trying to gather some more info or get a perspective of the fandom, rather than private groups, who are usually kept among a more restricted group of people, and not always very welcoming towards newcomers. Besides, while I agree that a private group grants people more freedom to express their thoughts in a more unfiltered way and/or share more sensible information, there's also no guarantee that screenshots won't be taken and shared in other places, and it can be hard to know who did it in the first place, so privacy isn't 100% guaranteed, unfortunately. 😕

That said, if a group chat on Instagram (or another platform) is something you guys would like to have, I'm open to creating one as well. 😊 So just let me know what you think! 💖

I don't disagree at all that being that logical could mean morally grey, btw! This is not to disagree with you guys' points. But if someone wants him to be as morally white as possible but still in character (or in other words... I guess, more complex idk), you could write him as someone who just doesn't voice out his sympathy. He just has been trying to appeal to Capitol's logical thinking.

Cus I do that sometimes. I only voice out my logical reasoning of why something horrible shouldn't happen because I thought it's more appealing to the...idk, intended audience. Because I see the audience as someone who won't budge with sympathy talking. It doesn't mean that I don't have any empathy for the victims, quite the opposite actually. Maybe at that point, I just see someone who won't budge outside of profit and benefit talking, so I need to think like them, you know? Maybe that's what Beetee is doing, thinking like how the enemies think. I also read that he's described as trustworthy by Katniss? While she's not the most reliable narrator, I don't think she'd trust someone who has the vibe of 'doesn't care at all'? But I'm not a Katniss expert so just correct me if I'm wrong.

Beetee, in my view, is someone who thinks very logically, but he sees everything very deeply. He sees everything too clearly and somehow I don't feel any coldness from it. Do you know who I think cares way less than Beetee? Plutarch LOL But that's only by vibe. I'm not a THG trilogy expert too.

You are more than welcome not to like Mobius and I completely understand why you feel that way, but please tag your anti-Mobius posts with things like "anti Mobius" or "Mobius negativity" so people who do like him don't have to see it on our dashes. Thanks! :)

But I don't feel that it is negativity. What Mobius does is objectively evil. If I said that Alexander Pierce tortured and mistreated Bucky would you insist that I tag it as "anti Pierce" or "Pierce negativity"? No of course not. Because I'm just objectively discussing what the character does.

Loki and Mobius have the same relationship as Bucky and Pierce but a lot of the PR and framing encourages viewers to ignore that and to accept Loki's torture as justified and acceptable. It's not. Torture is a vile act that is NEVER justified. Just because the writer of the show is a creepy right winger who thinks otherwise and is encouraging viewers to parrot his vile views doesn't change the facts.

What Mobius does to Loki literally meets the legal definition of torture on multiple counts. Mobius holds Loki prisoner without due process or just cause. He degrades and humiliates and mocks him and obviously delights in this and revels in the power he has over Loki. He calls him a cockroach and pathetic. He acts morally superior to Loki despite the fact that he regularly and remorselessly obliterates entire realities because he believes the people in them are a class of person who don't deserve to exist - i.e. he commits genocide on an inconceivably massive scale. He forcibly detains Loki and makes him labor for him without pay; that's slavery.

When Loki understandably tries to escape his captor he recaptures him and punishes him by locking him in a cell where he beaten in the genital area (a common form of torture used in Russia and China and other authoritarian dictatorships even today) until he is willing to repeat degrading things about himself to try to get the pain to stop.

These are all facts. I didn't make those things up about Mobius. They happened. In canon. I think Mobius could have been a great villain. He's the literal embodiment of the concept of "the banality of evil" and a lot of real life atrocities are committed by people like him. The problem is that many people are presenting his acts as acceptable rather than villainous.

But he's not a good person. And he's not Loki's friend. The fact that people repeat the disgusting messaging in the show that someone who does things (and to the MCU's first canon queer character too btw! This show is no more good representation than Nazi cartoons that showed violence against queer people as funny and justified were) is in any way justified is deeply disturbing to me. People calling Mobius's acts of torture funny or justified or cute literally turns my stomach. But I’m not asking you to confine your posts praising Mobius to a “pro torture” tag or “pro abuse” tag. 

The Mobius tag is for discussing the character, not for interpreting him in the way that you personally decide is correct. I am discussing the things Mobius does in canon. And I find them appalling.

Also even when I did tag things like this for criticism (even though stating objective facts isn't a criticism and it should tell you something when people interpret the truth as an attack) "fans" of the show would come and seek out my posts and then harass me. Because what I think people who send messages like this really want is for us to stop sharing our opinions. If you just didn't want to see my posts you could block me. But that's not really what this is about. You aren't afraid YOU will have to see my posts. You're afraid someone else might see them and might actually agree. HAHA 1933 WAS VERY MUCH A RANDOM DATE I THREW OUT THERE so i wouldn’t take it TOO much to heart but (and please let me preface this by saying i am not at all harping on Miyazaki, i am totally making fun of myself for not being able to quell my own rampant hyperfixations and know how ridiculous this sounds and am laughing at myself for it. i am not actually pressed about this I JUST FEEL THE NEED TO CLARIFY BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO BE “THAT GUY”)

BASICALLY THOUGH i interpreted the scene as a homage to early ‘30s Fleischer and early ‘30s Walter Lantz, (and a nod to 1928’s Plane Crazy from Disney as a whole) from both the pseudo-Betty and pseudo-Oswald designs respectively. i always got the impression that the cartooning of the late ‘20s/very early ‘30s was more inspired by the “inkblot” style of cartooning and still very much rooted in the rougher, more limited newspaper comic influence… Felix the Cat, Mickey (of course), Bosko, Koko… staging was much more flat and motion not nearly as smooth (but it’s Miyazaki. i’m more focused on the designs). this was the period where cartoonists were still interacting with their characters and treating them like moving drawings of ink (like the Bosko pilot or Koko cartoons)

FOR EXAMPLE here’s a 1929 Oswald versus 1932-1933 Oswald (i don’t know the date of the second photo, but the Pooch series ended in late 1933); the bigger eyes, more bulbous construction, gloves, etc. all seem more reminiscent in Miyazaki’s interpretation than the former, which falls into the cruder, more simplistic/inkblot style of 1929

likewise with dear ol’ Betty who wasn’t made until 1930 and wasn’t a fully fledged human until 1932–you can sort of see how the first example is still a little more crude and has a stronger newspaper influence than the second one. Fleischer was pretty ahead of its time as a whole though so i would not by any means take any of this as staunch fact

also. i will flat out just say the pseudo-Betty made me think of Warner Bros’ psuedo-Betty, Cookie, who made her debut in 1933 with Buddy and the Buddy cartoons in my mind are sort of the epitome of that style of cartooning (which… is somewhat insulting because Buddy is an awful character) BUT having seen all of the Buddy cartoons that’s just what comes to mind first HAHAHAHA so that’s really where the 1933 date came from

to roughyl translate, I found these while looking up Grantaire on the website Gallica, which is a French website filled with archives of old documents (press, literature, essays etc) that anyone can consult for free. It’s pretty awesome caus you can get an accurate view of what informations people consumed at the time. Let’s also note this article came out 50 years after Les Mis’ publication. link to the article (it’s page two)

Anyhoo, this article is from the 20th-ish century newspaper Comoedia and it’s a repertoire of fictional characters who fall under the term “The Devotions” (les dévouements), separated in different categories of attachment/loyalty.

Grantaire’s category is, literaly: “Devoted as a result of an unrealizable love.” as I said, it’s a rough translation. I’m a bit unsure. In this case, devotion is caused in consequences to a love that simply can’t happen, there’s a series of events building up a one-sided love which will, somehow, still result in commitment.

So to have Grantaire in this category was not that surprising tbh, and if you look up the two other characters at his side (who are both male, it is written here there’s “no equal female example”) Quasimodo and Butscha are both, in similarities with Grantaire, ugly men who seem to only have flaws but turn out to be quite ok and somehow lose themselves in the shadows of someone else. (I won’t elaborate but please correct me if I’m wrong)

Obviously, the interpretations are open, I was looking up for 19th century press opinions and interpretations of Enjolras and Grantaire’s relationship because if it causes so many debates now, I can’t see it not provoking debates at the time of publication too. I’m fond of the idea that a journalist could have published an article, or at least mentioned the thought in a random paper and, sadly, I found nothing aside from the above piece. But in a way I like that. How someone acknowledged Grantaire’s love for Enjolras as what it is: love. (without mentioning worship or faith) In my mind, this little piece of article acknowledges that Grantaire was romantically attracted to Enjolras. He didn’t fall into the category of “devoted because of frienship” or “devoted because of brotherhood”. It’s no bromance. We French are clear : un amour irréalisable is a heart tearing concept, we’ve all been there. Grantaire was friendzoned and some 20th century journalist recognized it.

I’ve seen people hold debates about how the lack of sexual evidence btw them is enough to prove that Grantaire and Enjolras are not queer coded. And mates oh, homosexual love isn’t always about the sekkss.

I support the theory that Grantaire was attracted to Enjolras, Victor Hugo took too many decisions when writing their descriptions and interactions that just can’t scream otherwise, but his adoration was entirely one-sided. Enjolras seems to fall on the ace spectrum, but tbh he isn’t a very tangible character so it’s hard to analyze him. I once read he was written as an ideal more than a real physical person compared to all the other characters, and it makes sense.

Grantaire and Enj were described as being the opposite sides of a same coin which, as we know, can in no physical way be gathered side-by-side. I do think that by writing them dying hand-in-hand, it was Victor’s way of making the two sides of the coin face each other instead of existing back to back.

Hi, anon! Sorry it took me soooo long to answer it. For those who have forgotten what anon is talking about, it was one of my reblogs (which I can’t seem to find rn), that included this link to XZ supporting a friend of his who had come out of the closet. 

Short answer: your interpretation of the article wasn’t that wrong, but I’m not sure if you’ve got the correct sequence of the story, so here it is my answer.

For those who don’t know Chinese, let me explain a bit first. The OP from the link is asking: is XZ straight?

The most liked answer is talking about a reply gg left on a friend’s post in 2011, back when he was still a university student (but the screenshot is from after gg had debuted, so his username had the X-9 part).

A friend of gg had posted about his new bf, effectively coming out with it.Gg appeared in the comments section:

Gg: Aiyo!! please explain

Friend: buf, seeing you appearing so suddenly, I feel a death aura from you~

Gg: Haha... you didn’t tell me even though you got a partner, congratulations! hehe

Friend: Maybe I can bring him next time we hang out and introduce him to you, haha, thank cute xiao-jie’s congratulations~ I just didn’t dare to tell you~

Gg: You didn’t dare to tell me... why? haha

Friend: (blurred out text) ... straight, you aren’t gay~

Gg: (embarrased/sad face 囧).... aren’t we friends.... if we are, I’d congratulate you...

The text that accompanies the photo says: because XZ is straight, his gay friend didn’t dare to come out of the closet to him, and xz answered: we’re friends, I’d congratulate you.

A reply to a post asking whether gg’d been outed: what! his direct classmate (gay) vouched for him and told me himself that he was straight!

It also includes a photoshopped post of gg using “gay slang”, that was later proved by fans that it was photoshop and that gg never posted those words.

So the photo and the other rumours were being spread by haters and antis, saying that gg was gay in a not-good way. Please remember that there is a difference between believing that someone must be lgbt, and a whole another thing to say that someone has an “abnormal sexual orientation”. The tone is important!

This is very complicated in an upsetting way. The “proof” attached by this user replying to whether gg is gay was trying to prove that gg is not gay, just supportive of lgbt, because they believe that being gay is bad. So, anon, you’ve encountered well-meaning fans trying to defend their idol from rumours they believe will damage their image (there’s no need to say that they’re probably solo fans, I think).

In summary:

A user asked “is XZ gay?”

The most liked reply (673 likes) says that he must be straight since his gay friends said he is. This user also clears up some rumours about gg using lgbt slang in a public post, which is definitely false.

I think this reply was probably written by a xfx (gg’s solo fans), though the post was quite homophobic. They probably had well-meaning intentions, like “I’m defending his name and his reputation!” but whether it was actually beneficial is very debatable.

Once again, I don’t think it would be good for them if bjyx started to say “they’re gay” publicly (the use of their names is prohibited in the supertopic for a reason!) but to deny it so vehemently isn’t exactly helpful for them in the long run, imo. This doesn’t apply in this case, obviously, because the writer felt that saying that gg was gay is an offense.

A little bonus (pure speculation!):

Please notice that I’ve highlighted that there was a part of the friend’s reply that was blurred out, precisely in the part in which the friend says “you seemed straight, you aren’t gay” part.

This conversation is very old and gg’s posts aren’t visible if they’re older than 6 months, so we can only rely on screenshots for these things. The name of his friend is blurred out for obvious reasons, but for some reason, a part of his friend reply is also blurred out.

Why is it blurred out? It may be completely unconsequential and unimportant, just a editing mistake, but I can’t help but think that if a part of the text was blurred out by solo fans, there might be something they don’t want others to see. What does it say? Maybe we’ll never find out.

A lot of the replies were affirming that he must be straight, since he had a girlfriend before, while he was studying at the university. And I’m like.... bisexuality? I must admit that this is quite confusing, especially this phrase from one of the replies: “he had a girlfriend, he can’t be bisexual!”

For those who might be disheartened by that xfx (and I feel very tired just by reading so much homophobia, since most of the replies had a very harsh tone), here I have the last sentence of a reply by another solo fan (at least they didn’t give the vibe of being a bxg, and they spent a long post talking about gg’s qualities), even though they said at first “he must be straight...”:

I have been asking this question to myself because god knows how levi doesn't sit right with me, but reading your analysis made me wonder why the fuck did i hate him before. I used to blame him for what happened to hange. yes, maybe i am dumb.

No, I actually don’t think so. I think everyone who ships Levihan is an avid Hange stan. I think it requires a minimum amount of love for Hange to actually ship her with Levi. 

I mean, given the amount of people who love Levi and his overall role in the story, we have people of course shipping Levi with Erwin and shipping Levi with Eren. To actually like a ship, I generally feel like we all have to like both people in the ship? I mean the whole point of wanting them to be lovey dovey and wanting to explore their dynamic is because we’re fascinated with them as characters right? And why would you read fanfiction and draw fanart of a character you don’t even like. 

And I actually thought about this because I do hang around twitter sometimes and I noticed a pattern among Mobuhan shippers… (Correct me if I’m wrong) but what I noticed is that Mobuhan tends to be a secondary pairing for a lot of shippers? Like they would ship Mobuhan specifically because they ship Levi with someone else. Like I did see a lot of twitter profiles had the tendency to scream… AVID ERERI SHIPPER/ AVID ERURI SHIPPER and btw I like Mobuhan. 

Levi is an incredibly popular character and he is a top 1 character for a lot of people and if those people are shippers, then of course they’ll ship Levi with someone? I mean, come on give me a shipper who loves Levi and just wants Levi to live alone (or maybe they ship Levi with themselves I dunno). And given the most popular pairings… most of these people probably ship Levi with either Eren or Erwin if not Hange. (Are there other popular Levi ships?) and when they do ship them and they are an avid shipper, sometimes they do have secondary pairings, and sometimes they ship Moblit and Hange by default. 

Don’t get me wrong, I find Moblit and Hange an incredibly cute ship. And I think there are a lot of Hange stans who just genuinely like Moblit with Hange. 

But the point really I wanted to make is that, one needs to be a Hange stan to actually be on board with the whole idea of Levihan. 

And my general understanding behind it is this: 

If people hate Hange or ‘they just don’t like her too much,’ they usually see her as some sort of crazy scientist character which is the general interpretation for a lot of casual fans since I have mentioned in previous metas that Hange is chronically criminally misinterpreted and underestimated by fans. 

Levi on the other hand is incredibly celebrated by the fandom and we all know that by the amount of ships and the amount of hype he gets. And generally, we get more explicit character exposition overall for Levi than Hange. (Just look at season 3, it’s all Levi exposition) Tbh, he literally gets exposition everytime he shows up, the whole reason why so many people love Levi in the first place. 

And compared to other ships, Levihan isn’t generally fetishized. Like sure we do get our fair share of smut fanfiction but a lot of the more popular Levihan fanfiction and posts from what I can see are generally those that celebrate Levi and Hange’s bond more than they fetishize them as a couple. For one, they’re not a male x male couple after all and the male x male couples are generally the ones that get this treatment.

And for people to appreciate the actual non malexmale relationship for Levihan and for people to actually headcanon, write fanfiction, draw fan art and generally want to explore something without the need to fetishize it, they need to have a more in-depth understanding or interpretation overall for Hange’s character which given the state of Hange’s portrayal in canon, requires some emotional investment and some analysis to get into. 

Like to be frank, it took some more effort on my end to explore the relationship of Hange and Levi since it was more subtle in canon compared to Eruri. Eruri leading up to season 3 had more explicit portrayals definitely and I completely understand the reason behind shipping Erwin and Levi honestly. (I’m not even against Eruri at all. I do read my fair share of Eruri fics and metas because I love their bond as well.)

Hange on the other hand, although she has her moments, she just generally has this I’ll do my best to stay happy and confident because I'm a commander type of demeanor. And even before she was commander, she did have this happy-go-lucky demeanor and of course, she doesn’ have a backstory so what really is there to explore with Hange’s character right?

We get the ‘I’m tired,’ and in the anime, the scene after Eren attacked her. But Hange’s quick to bounce back. She gets no flashback. She gets no in depth-discussion or explicit proof of her vulnerability and that’s why it’s so easy for people to brush off whatever stuff she goes through. 

Like jfc just think 132?? Even when hange was walking to her death, she was literally smiling. She didn’t even have a moment of ‘regret’ unlike Erwin where we had this whole exposition about his regrets and how he would have wanted to see the basement. 

All we got from Hange was a ‘that’s that.’ and a ‘please let me go,’ and terrified face hidden behind a smile. And what was the last face they showed before she died? She was smiling. Till the last moment, Hange did not complain, she did not actively show her vulnerability as a character. She never complained. She never talked about her regrets. 

The only hint of vulnerability we did get was  a ‘let me go.’ then some nervous Hange then her smile that quickly fell for a second. 

And which other character rarely explicitly verbalizes their desires? Which character just grins and bears whatever bullshit comes their way? LEVI. 

I know I mentioned Levi does get a lot of exposition but if you notice the exposition never comes directly from Levi. Usually it’s from Petra, his squad, Kenny, etc etc. Levi just like Hange never explicitly shows his vulnerability. Hange is just a tad unlucky on the exposition part because no one ever really bothered to say something along the lines of “BY THE WAY HANGE HAS DEPTH” in the actual narrative.

And given that really interesting commonality between Levi and Hange, I just have to point out that their inability or refusal to verbalize their desires is one of the main reasons why they’re two of my favorite characters.

 They don’t actively verbalize their desires yet it’s so apparent in their actions and as a stan, I want them to be happy. I want to explore their depth and it just seemed so natural that it’s both of them right? Especially given what had been going on in Season 4. And just look at the fanart? The dynamics of the survey corps post Season 4. If 132 happened, it would have been Hange and Levi living together..

So when people do ask why I ship Levihan for Levi and for Hange? I tend to ask really… who else do I ship them with? It just seemed like the most natural ship to fall into place.
