A bunch of photos I came across when Zooropa was released.

U2's record label held a contest where the record store with the best display would win a trip for two to Ireland to see U2 in concert. I was working with my friend, Scott Campbell, who was one of the nicest people I've ever met, and I don't say that lightly. He was soft-spoken, and philosophically loud. So we agreed to give this contest a go. Each of us brought a TV from home, and the other two were lent to us by our colleagues, Mariana and Tracey. We hooked up four VCRs to play their videos over and over. I brought a couple of amp road cases from my band for the structure. Well, we did not win. A couple of weeks later, Richard, who owned the store, told us he'd heard from a label rep that everyone agreed ours was the best display. Yet they gave it to someone at a larger store in either New York or California, I can't remember which, because the label owed them favors. Who knows, they were probably creating fake sales for the label so it would look good for their artists on SoundScan. That, like payola, was not uncommon. Cheat to the beat.

This is a desperate plea from me: if you are not particularly computer literate, PLEASE do not use Linux. I am begging you. Why would you even do that if you can't effectively look up how to install a basic program on Linux. Why.

my dad was proud and my mom started obsessively playing it and would run back to the computer room every few minutes screaming "mes goldeun cookies!!". my ex-businessman grandpa got really interested in our studio's fledgling business model and would constantly ask about our players' different nationalities. my friends would go Omg Julien you're going viral with the cookie game congrats that's so neat! my ex reconnected and told me it was nice to know at least one of us was doing good. my boss from my previous pixel-art internship (asking me if i wanted a full job next time) said "huh you're starting a company in this climate? pretty bold but good luck with that i guess..."

veilguard is maddeningly racist and we have got to have this conversation outside of "fantasy racism" terms. we are not talking about fantasy elves. it is anti-indigenous racism, the elves are intentionally indigenous coded as previously stated by Gaider (and it honestly doesn't matter if it's been "confirmed," it is obviously true, no matter what Weekes tries to argue now) and insinuating that your indigenous coded characters 1. are deserving of their oppression, 2. are in any way responsible for it, 3. should feel guilty about it, 4. are foolish and dangerous for wanting to reconnect with and preserve their history, and 5. are "stuck in the past" and "too traditional," (why don't they just assimilate already?) are all insidious, racist ideas that this game perpetuates. and there is very little pushback from the narrative that the player can engage in, which is what a lot of the criticism is discussing. we're not talking about "fantasy racism" or fantasy slurs, we are talking about the real world racism this game is perpetuating.
