THE PLAYER 2: MASTER OF SWINDLERS

GENRES: Action, Drama, Comedy

SUMMARY: The players are at it again, seeking both personal revenge and national justice.

THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Gourmet eats, sham gallery owners, despicable real estate dealers, sadist millionaires, car chases, chaotic punches, stabbings, bombs, idols, drugs, grey suits, and conflicted Presidents.

HOT TAKE: The first season of this show, just like this second season, was silly action fun with some decent cast chemistry thrown in as a nice bow. Nothing too adventurous to worry about--the lead is handsome, the tough guy is unbeatable, the hacker is the best in the world, and their driver can hold her own wherever she goes.

Did we need another season? Not really, but I'm not going to complain that we did. Are we getting another one after this? You betcha.

The Player 2 Review

How is this the same Player I watched in 2018 but still the vibe is different?

The second season is focused on getting revenge for Ah Ryung, starting with the smallest fish and going to the master planner.

I'm not going to compare the two seasons as the only thing I remember about the first season is that I was very entertained. Even gave it a 9.5/10.

I tried to find some other evidence of how I felt about it and why I and a lot of others feel a bit disappointed with this season.

However, I only found that I enjoyed the friendship between the leads and the humour.

This season also has that but I don't think we spent as much time finding out about characters or their friendship. Though every bit we've got was fun and amazing.

The cases they have covered weren't so bad either. But I don't think there was any case that I will remember for a long time... I already forgot most of them.

There were tons of cameos from comedians to other great actors. Seeing different cameos was probably one of the best things in the drama, but it didn't seem like they were relying on it too much.

The cast is as strong as those little cameos and even the new companions (Jung Soo Min and Hwang In Sik) were a very helpful addition.

If you would put everything together the drama is alright. The technicalities with cases (two episodes per one case), a moment for friendship, and tons of fighting scenes. But the heart of the show is just not there.

Not to blame it on the screenwriter but they are the only person who changed.

Overall, this is a decent watch. It's not bad but after 6 years of people hyping up the first season, this one fell short on something.

I have to compliment that they did a very thorough, and great recap on the last season! I remembered the whole story and didn't feel like I was missing something.
