it makes me so happy fans of the original enjoy this. like, on the lowkey, pqr is a *sequel* to friendsim/pq, not actually a "Rewrite." (it just structurally matches one, which is why the name, lol.) brings me life whenever people discover it!??????
and pace urself on the read!!! god knows i pace myself working on this game lmao
butttttttt. on the subject. did you know there are two bonus routes hidden in the game?
the first one's been completed and discoverable for four months... we thought we might as well reveal it today!
youtube
i hope u enjoy ;3 try and find it on ur own ingame first!!!!!!!
(route by @hydro-city-zone with sfx contributions by @dare0451 !!!!)

Post-Homestuck content I have indulged in
Homestuck's song died ages ago, but its melody still lingers.
Here's a couple of Homestuck-related things that I decided to indulge myself in after finishing the original webcomic!
Hiveswap Friendsim
Why was this the first official Homestuck thing I bought instead of actual Hiveswap? No clue. Maybe because of the sweet desire of FRIENDSHIP.
It's a pretty good visual novel set in the wonderful dystopia-mostly-played-for-laughs of Alternia. I think I understand a lot more of the Alternian nuances thanks to this game, so that's a plus!
The ending made me shit myself though.
My favourite characters are Tyzias and Remele because we stan a tired legal student and a literal con artist in my house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can't wait to see these goobers pop up in Hiveswap.
Karkat Goes to A Convention
youtube
In regards to fan content, I checked out the MS Paint Fan Adventures website, and chose the first one that got my attention, and I do not regret picking this one.
It starts off as "haha real life karkat meets the fandom and gets really mad lol" and ends up as "Although these characters are fictional, they still have touched the lives of many and cannot be understated as characters." Really great stuff.
Homeslice
youtube
As the title suggests, a slice-of-life style approach to what the post-Homestuck characters get up to, and god damn it is amazing. If you hated the epilogues, you'll absolutely adore this. It's been getting recent updates too, so check it out if you can!
I'm really excited to play Pesterquest, specifically because of the art style. It looks amazing!!!!!

Look at John!!!!! HE'S SO TANGIBLE!!!!!!!

5) what’s the dumbest thing you’ve heard about your f/o, either on the internet or irl?
On f/os!!! Few more better
of ur choice >:)
10) how did you feel when you realized “oh of course i had to like That Character”?
Your most recent f/os please :D
Hi hi!! Thanks for the ask!!
Tumblr media
5) What’s the dumbest thing you’ve heard about your F/O, either on the internet or irl?
"Ice King is just a joke character"
"Simon wasn't important for Adventure Time's lore"
"Tokoyami shouldn't be in class 1A, he's not interesting enough"
"Jinx isn't traumatized or mentally ill, she just wants to get VI's attention"
"Muichiro is just a rude, selfish brat"
"Muriel doesn't like the apprentice, he just felt cornered"
"Hunter was just as cruel and evil as Belos"
"Zebruh shouldn't be a character because he's gross/evil"
"Sebastian doesn't struggle at all and hates Demetrius for no reason"
10) How did you feel when you realized “oh of course I had to like That Character”?
Ice King made me panic a little bit, because I started to like him back when I was an anti and I knew that people were going to be mean about it.
It lasted a week, until I had to pretend to not F/O him anymore, because I kept getting people sending me asks making fun of me for liking him or commenting on the age gap... But I'm happy to be able to enjoy being with him now!!
Simon was... Pretty obvious. I do have a thing for dorks in glasses, so I was just always really happy and giggly whenever he came on screen, one of my first cartoon crushes!
Tokoyami was a bit surprising, because when I got into MHA I was expecting to be into Aizawa or Iida, but that wasn't the case at all. I just really enjoy his personality and quirk!
Jinx was almost love at first sight, once I saw her after the time skip. I was really entranced by her because we are very similar, I'm just on a tighter leash.
My breakdowns and manic episodes are almost exactly the same as hers, but I'm not able to go out blowing buildings, of course lol
Muichiro kept me waiting. I was curious and had a little crush on him after the finale of season one, then when the new season came out he dragged me by the feet, honestly. He was so powerful and amazing!
Muriel took me a while to get infatuated with. I played through all the routes of The Arcana, but my favorite was definitely Muriel's.
His character development and his personality made me swoon once I got past his tsundere phase
Hunter reminded me of myself and he was a new F/O after a long while without getting new crushes, so it felt like falling in love for the first time all over again!
He always made me smile and I've watched all the episodes he's in, so much so that I've memorized pretty much all of his dialogue lol
Zebruh was the first official F/O I've ever had, because I've always selfshipped, but I didn't know about the community, he's the one who introduced me!!
I got a lot of backlash for liking him when friendsim came out, I've had some pretty big fandom blogs block and make call-outs on me because of him, it was crazy. If you're wondering why, it's because he's "a villain" though in his world he'd just be classified as a douchebag smh
He's also the reason I'm not around a really fucking toxic ex friend anymore, so I'm really grateful that I have him in my life 💙
Sebastian was a "well, I guess I like this one" at first, when I was playing Stardew for the first time, because I i didn't really like the look of any of the other villagers.
Since I was pretty much always mining, I memorized his schedule and would stop by his house to give him quartz!
I noticed that he liked a lot of the same things that I do so I got a little attached to him, then his heart events, our wedding and married life made me genuinely fall in love with him!

To quote the most wise and noble scholars of our age, "well, THAT just happened!"
I don't think any of us could have possibly expected this, but Homestuck^2, the (much-maligned) Homestuck sequel, is back.
And to top that off, it's looking good.
James Roach, who composed many of the tracks for Homestuck's more recent projects and was generally one of the few well-known people still openly associated with the IP in any official capacity, has formed the Homestuck Independent Creative Union, or HICU, with Andrew Hussie's blessing. Dedicated to finally completing the long-abandoned HS^2 project (now rebranded as simply Homestuck: Beyond Canon) as well as working on even more Homestuck projects in the future(!!!), HICU would appear to be the greatest hope that Homestuck has for the future.
Now, I'm going to preface this by saying two things. First: I have only been involved in the Homestuck fandom since the beginning of this year, and I only finished the original comic last month. I am by no means a long-time fandom member, nor do I have the same experiences with the fandom that many other people have had. Second: I have not read/played the Homestuck Epilogues, Homestuck^2, or any meaningful amount of Hiveswap Friendsim or Pesterquest. While I am familiar with a couple concepts from post-canon Homestuck, I am unfamiliar with any of the works in their entirety.
That being said, I still want to discuss my opinion on the sudden return of post-canon, and what I think the future of Homestuck may be. My time as a Homestuck may have so far been relatively brief, but the comic has made an incredible impact on my life. HS holds a special place in my heart, and even if I'm not the most well-educated fan I still want to put my opinion out there.
I am, to put it in simple terms, cautiously optimistic about the return of Homestuck^2. To my knowledge, HS^2 has so far been a complete and total trainwreck. Now, I'm not personally in a place to judge the work: after all, I haven't read the damn thing. But if what I've heard is true, then HS^2 seems almost irredeemably bad. There's a chance, however, that the HICU will be able to turn this around. By taking the writing in a new direction, proving to the fandom that they know what they're doing, and trying their best to fix this, they might just be able to make this work.
James Roach and the rest of the HICU seem genuinely very passionate about Homestuck. It's clear that they love this universe and only want the best for it; and I think that's the most important thing.
If there's one thing that has defined the Homestuck fandom for the past few years, it's been cynicism. You'd be hard-pressed to find a single fan who thought Homestuck had any sort of future ahead of it outside of Hiveswap; post-canon was practically dead, Andrew Hussie had long since moved on to greener, clown-filled pastures, and a large, faceless corporation with seemingly no interest in the IP had become the publisher. Suffice to say, it wasn't a good time to be a Homestuck fan.
But now, with the formation of the HICU, there's something the Homestuck fandom hasn't seen in a long, long time: hope. There is a chance, however slim, that Homestuck will be getting new, well-written, well-characterized content. Homestuck has a future, it has a chance at redemption!
I just hope that James Roach and the rest of the HICU don't fuck this up. Maybe, just maybe, if we're fucking lucky, Homestuck can leave this years-long slump.
Alright, I'm done rambling. I've got a lot of stuff to read: after all, I don't want to miss the return of Homestuck, no matter how it turns out!

ALTERNIAN SITCOM
Okay so this one starts in-media Res, with a quirked narration, talking about a fleet of galactic imperial ships. Needless to say, it has my attention. Seriously, quirked narration ON PAGE 1? That’s kind of a bold, “I know what I’m doing here” thing to do.
I think it’s important to take a moment and consider that 2018 was, in fact, the year of HIVESWAP FRIENDSIM, which in mind is a more important release than HIVESWAP was. Seriously, the way people talked about HIVESWAP FRIENDSIM nowadays, it’s like it’s own separate fandom within the Homestuck Fandom Proper. I recently played it, and I thought it was…okay? Like, some of the routes were interesting (shout-outs to Fozzer’s route, absolutely unmatched atmosphere and one of my favourites) but some of the routes were just…medicore. However, I bet when it was coming out, it was super exciting. The reason I’m talking about all this is because I have a feeling that this was like, the gateway drug for a lot of people to properly get into the HOMESTUCK FANDOM, and when they do, they arrive to find that—GASP—there’s not a lot of content just focusing on the trolls without SBURB getting in the way. So that content is made, and therefore we have ALTERNIAN SITCOM.
A Big Portion of Hiveswap Friendsim was kind of focused not just on how terrible it is to live on Alternia, but also kind of how terrible it is to be shunted off after you reach a certain age into the military fleet of the Empire. That’s why I’m getting big “this is being inspired, somewhat, from FRIENDSIM” vibes from this one, because it does take place on an imperial ship.
I must say, I’m feeling…conflicted over this one? Like, I’m kind of charmed over the lack of the typical structure that you might find in other Fanadventures, but it’s…a little…not entertaining? Like, it’s okay, it’s being competently put together and sometimes that’s all you can hope for, but…it’s not…amazing. I guess the vibe this is going for is like…a sitcom. Here’s all the reoccurring characters, here’s the central premise, here’s some chicanery. Unfortunately, I’m not really finding this funny, at all, so. Yeah. Maybe you would like it, reader of these reviews? But I will certainly not continue with this one. Still, props to the unique structure (at least unique for what we’ve seen up to this point).

Ok now that both polls are done time to compare results and see if i can gleam anything from this.
(spoiler alert: the second one only got slightly over half of the votes as the first one so this aint going to be useful or that interesting either way.
First poll was about what was you gits favorite troll blood type.
Tumblr media
Ranking at the bottom of the barrel with no votes are Blue and Indigo. Trolls from the franchise with these blood colors tend to be controversial or just uncomfortable characters in general. while still having their fans, this poll did not reach them and thus 0% all for the "bluebloods".
Up next with only a bit more votes, are bronze, gold, olive, jade, violet and fuchsia all with just 5.9% of the votes. while not that high in the polls individually, its nice to know that even from this smaller sample size, almost every color has its fans. heck, i bet blue and indigo would have added on to the even all rounders here if there was more people voting. hard to tell anything from this, but still somewhat neat to see.
Last tied castes are purple and karkats candy red, or muties as i have called them. what can i say, do enough ork impressions and play them enough and (other than invade any setting while you're making neat little adventures in your head while daydreaming) you start to affectionately call things with orky terms. like i call octolings and inklings from splatoon beakies but that's starting to get off-topic. with 11.8% of the votes, i suspect the reason these got this far is because the characters associated with those blood colors are popular fan favorites, with karkat being a "sudo-main character" as ill call him for now and gamzee being an important and prime example of a fun trope where the comic relief turns into an actual threat, that and the purple bloods being generally some of the more beloved characters to come out of hiveswap/friendsim, it's no wonder they ranked as they did, however the next one may be my fault here.
With 17.6% of the vote are the teal bloods. terezi is another fan favorite character with plot relevance and the teal bloods from hiveswap/friendsim are up there with the purples for top characters people got out of those games. why did teals rank higher than purples then if they are liked for pretty much all the same reasons? well you see i kinda hit the limit for poll options (honestly kinda lucky there, got to fit all the blood types in there. [well except lime but that doesn't count because it has no trolls in it]) so I disgraced the post by omitting the mandatory other option. a grave sin, I know. so i voted on this poll myself. this was recently after finishing homestuck but before doing the extended zodiac quiz or playing friendsim, so my favorite character at the time was Terezi Pyrope. So I voted teal and that one vote pushed the teals ahead of the curb like a raid team that found an exploit. didn't mean to sway the vote as i did, as i expected there to be a bit more votes but in midnight post all polls being done hindsight I probably should have gone the tf2 route and put the characters names in the tags, but I think I got enough votes and interaction with this one.
and finally with a whopper 23.5% of the votes, surprising me greatly it's the rust bloods! I honestly have no clue on how they got ahead here. from what i remember the rust bloods from both homestuck proper and friendsim/hiveswap didn't do much and weren't all too relevant. but i guess i was mistaken and underestimated the power of underrepresented blorbos and the working class. i honestly do not know what to say at this point, even after trawling around poking at the general fanspaces I still don't see much talk around these characters and this caste. still they managed to get roughly 4 or so votes without the poll maker throwing in er hat into the ring so good on them!
Onto the second poll which probably got a lot less traction due to the fact that it was based on the extended zodiac quiz.
Tumblr media
Yeah maybe i should redo the polls with the characters actually tagged huh? redo at 100 likes? hekekekekek
with 0% of the few votes i got here are rust, bronze, teal, blue, purple and fuchsia. don't know how the extended zodiac works so i don't really have anything to say other than man do I wish this poll got more votes.
with 11.1% of the votes each are gold, lime(idk why but the wiki says its an available option so i went with it),jade and violet. an even amount distributed amongst the crowd, maybe people's favorite blood caste is the same as the ones they have maybe it's not. like i said it's hard to tell with the small sample size i got i hand here.
next is olive with 22.2% of votes and i'm just going to get threw this quickly because reading makes me tired, its 1:51 am and i slept horribly last night. I got olive blood on the test, no other option. bada bing bada boom. onto an actually surprising thing next.
Indigo unlike last poll is the opposite of 0% with a solid 33.3% winning the poll thing. very surprising, tells me that either the people who did the first one didn't do the second or that peoples zodiac blood type are the opposites of the ones they actually like. i don't know but it's interesting to say the least.
well while confusing to say the least, this set of polls was pretty fun and interesting to dissect. I hope you all can get as much fun as I did with these bad boyes. while I didn't get as much as a sample size as i wanted to get, the results did show me some wee stuff about the homestuck fandom, at least on tumblr. maybe i'll do another set of these in the future but more to the point and including all the troll names (zog that sounds horrid but oddly satisfying to type) but either way feel free to discuss this stuff in the comments or tags or whatever, idk im not a mathy goober. Im Goblin Enjoyer and I remember it so you don't have to, good night everybody.

I have been going through the pgenpod archives recently and I am surprised how illuminating it is. In hindsight, that’s on me - I didn’t actively follow the Friendsim games and was not yet podcast-pilled at time of release. Having played the games now I’m skimming back through some episodes and wow...there is a surprising amount of information in here on how post-canon is being produced. It becomes pretty clear the amount of thought the fans and creators are putting into the goals of the Homestuck project (especially re:Epilogues and HS^2), ways of approaching + processing + writing fiction, collaborative storytelling, and hell the general process of creating art! This is a lot more transparent about the story’s production than Hussie ever was about Homestuck proper, and frankly with more good faith than they typically showed as well. Given that, it’s confusing to me that one of the big complaints of post-canon that’s emerged is that the creators didn’t engage with the fandom as much, when you had a whole stretch of time they were rotating through a podcast to speak to people fairly directly! It’s not too surprising though - podcasts are less accessible and I myself was ignoring the thing too.
And yeah, there’s bias. Of course there is, none of us are free from bias. In the interest of diplomacy I will refrain from getting deep into this. Well, except to say fuck anyone who sent people death threats. But BESIDES THAT, whatever your thoughts are on the toxicity in HS's creator/fandom relationship, there's worthwhile stuff in there. I don’t agree with everything on the show, and it can occasionally dip into fandom grudgery, but personally I take the bad with the good. And I think there’s more good than bad with pgenpod.
While I’m on the subject of Homestuck podcasts, I might as well take the opportunity to plug Homestuck Made This World. This one is two academics (one longtime fan, one newbie) reading through Homestuck one chunk at a time, analyzing it as a text, and putting it in its context in history. If you are one of those fans who yearned for people to take Homestuck seriously as Literature or Art or whatever - here it is! If you’re not, it is still a great resource for understanding how Homestuck was made as it was being updated, especially if you weren’t there. But this isn’t just Old Homestuck Yells At Cloud, I learned a lot about media analysis in general, as HS gets compared to other media that came before and after it. The hosts are critical but fair, genuinely insightful, and extremely good at talking to a non-academic audience. Because of that it’s a great podcast even for people who haven’t read Homestuck. There’s no better explainer.
Anyways. I think both of these pods are invaluable for understanding what Homestuck is as an object, how it works, and how it got made. Purely from a perspective of internet history, it is good that they exist.

I'm in Dave's intro again for an ask and it's standing out that there's a bunch of shuriken around the blender -- the euphemism "whirling blade pitcher" seems curtailed to apply to Dave, who pitches (throws) shuriken around... or rather, his sylladex does? If we designate the sylladex as a pitcher, the green puppet getting murdered by the blender is another iteration of the "abstration destroys reality" motif, more cats getting killed by (their sublimation into) text. On the other hand, Dave creates the "whirling blade pitcher" euphemism after looking into the reflective surface of the refrigerator and seeing Lil Cal, which bolsters the sense that self-reflection is at play. Plus I'm used to regarding asterisks as a marks of censorship/foul language, so Dave hurling ninja stars around would be a natural follow up to his hurling the "ninja sword" (slur) at a crow... interesting too that Dave is compelled to dodge the stars from his own sylladex?
I finally watched a Pesterquest playthrough recently (youtuber Brodemus, who also helped me through Friendsim) and there was a line (from Dave) about Dave being racially ambiguous in there, so the matter of Dave dodging (self-inflicted) racial slurs and seeing the race-mixed Lil Cal in the mirror (and seeing a GREEN (ie white?) figure destroyed by a BLENDER set to MIX) makes it seem like the miscegenation anxieties in Dave's section are self-directed, like he's aggressively avoiding collision with black signifiers? Which is weird, for a dude who is a rapper. A little late there homie...
That anxiety surfaces again when Tavros talks about making Dave 'soil the laundry enveloping his person' btw, the image of white garments browning applies to Dave's skin also. But the Lil Cal in the mirror is like... maybe it's a nightmare vision of the future or whatever, but it could also scan as an image of the present that Dave is avoiding? Like the writing on John and Rose's walls... I think we once broached the idea that Dave* might be akin to that old Dave Chappelle about the blind black guy (Clayton Bigsby), raised to believe he was white and raised as a white supremacist? Might be coming around to something like that, with the caveat that the audience is likewise lead to believe he's white, since our perception is filtered through Dave's perception (his sunglasses standing in for literal blindness)... or maybe more like if Michael Myers (who is white!) somehow became conscious of the fact that within Halloween he represents a black bogeyman, and the checkered knit of identity induces an existential crisis?
* edit: it was actually Eridan, but even so
