Thoughts on Padmé x Anakin x Rex?
Padmé and Anakin are so mutually obssesed they would first have to check into that before trying to bring another person to their carefully-balanced-kind-of-damage or something it's going to explode.
Honestly it's a fun ship! But I don't have too many thoughts about them because when I consider them is usually in very low-stakes-fun-AU-scenarios.
And I'm actually a bit of a fan of Rexwalker myself! Athough I tend to like them more as very good buddies, the covering-for-you-dynamic it's so funny for them, lol It's also angsty and complicated because, y'know, the power-imbalance and unchecked trauma? Is funny that the clone that's actually a slave for the republic is the most normal if you bring him into the anidala romance circus.
Also shout out to @phoenixyfriend , she has a lot of rexanidala fics and recs for anyone interested reading this!
#I have rexwalker wips somewhere in my endless wips folder although im generally very lazy to draw or care about ships unless i REALLY dig it#which is why you see me mostly drawing anidala despite the fact I do actually have lots of ships i like/consider#anakin is such a strange character he's hard to ship around bc look at him his social circle consists of 4 ppl#and padme's impressive social circle are her coworkers and her decoys#which is impressive bc SW has SO MANY characters lol#also sorry i ramble a lot just to answer 'it's a fun one'#thanks for the ask!#rexanidala#anakin is also such an anxious and intense guy he would need a LOT of talking and reassurance and stuff#bc otherwise he would feel guilty as hell like the three of them could have agreed to it and he probably would feel like he's cheating LOL#the thing with rexanidala which is the most interesting to me to wonder about is how padmé got into rex#she's actually a very closed person and part of the reason she fell for anakin that hard was over mutual trauma bonding#so i wonder i wonderrrr#but also generally the thing with me is that i tend to lean more into non-romantic dynamics and platonic stuff believe it or not#so if you see me doing lots of art for a ship (like anidala) it must be bc i really love them both otherwise i'm more into family or#complicated relationships stuff probably because i'm aroace and a ship must have some incredible complex thing going on for me to care#with rexanidala the biggest brownie points it gets to me is all the AU possibilities the ANGSTY AU possibilities bc it would change A LOT

other people have all these like, moralistic, reasons to dislike obi*in I just find it boring and bland and unrealistic and weird
their platonic dynamic is so much more compelling
also it was interesting when I was like, irl, 'oh no I don't ship obi*kin I find anakin's canonical relationship much more compelling' the other person was, jokingly, 'you're homophobic' - no most of my ships are queer and I ship something based on whether or not I find it compelling, not for diversity points
aka: do I find people weird for shipping ob*kin? no, although I do not understand its appeal at all. but I find obi*in weird. there is too much shit going on to care about other people's preferences for shipping fictional characters
#anti obikin#star wars#I think rexwalker can be interesting and I've read a lot of anidala + someone else#because that can be an interesting dynamic!#personally I find platonic fucked up messy dysfunctional relationships really compelling but so many people put all the blame on anakin#I mainly just shut up and filter it out because I am not engaging in a ship war#hence I have tagged this accurately#anyway I have filtered it now#on tumblr

What is anidala if not the "I can fix them" meme both ways while they're actively making each other worse
FR
The thing about Anakin and PadmĂ© is that the ship is only interestingïżŒ when you know itâs toxic.
For the longest time I was always like âPadmĂ© sweet pea what are you DOING!!!! There are so many red flags waving right in front of your face. GIRL RUN.â But the I realized what PadmĂ© might see in Anakin.
Anakin is very, very handsome. Who wouldnât want a talk Jedi knight for a boyfriend. PadmĂ© has also spent so much of her life in the public eye, so I think Anakin is her odd way of being rebellious. Her thing with Anakin gets to be just for her, and so I think thatâs maybe why she turns away from Anakinâs more hmmmmmm problematic qualities.
I like Anakin and PadmĂ©, I think they do really love and care for each other and their quiet moments together where they can express themselves without judgement. However I donât think they were ever meant to last. If Anakin never turned, their romance would have tapered off eventually, or they would have needed serious couples counseling.
My personal headcanon is that they separate and Anakin gets the help he desperately needs, seeing the twins on the weekends before theyâre able to have full joint custody. They stay friends but understand how their relationship wasnât the best for either of them. ïżŒ

the âproofâ the shippers for those other ships present are literally just examples of two people being really good friends and deeply caring for each other. platonic love exists. just because i would die for my family and close friends doesnât mean that i want to f*** them yk.
probably a controversial take but i donât agree when people ship anakin and padme with other people.
like whenever i see people shipping r*xwalker, s*bedala (or god forbid: ob*kin, an*soka, ob*dala or ob*anidala), it always seems to downplay the love anidala canonically has for each other. they only have eyes for each other and no one else. for anakin it seems ooc asf that he would even look at someone else romantically other than padme. sabe probably does have a crush on padme, but even while reading the whole padme trilogy, it never felt like those feelings were ever reciprocated. while obiwan is literally like a dad/older brother to anidala and ahsoka is literally like their daughter/younger sister.
the âproofâ the shippers for those other ships present are literally just examples of two people being really good friends and deeply caring for each other. platonic love exists. just because i would die for my family and close friends doesnât mean that i want to fuck them yk.

I love the sheer lack of understanding of fandom of asking someone âhow, why, and whereâ they began to ship a ship in canon.
Like, my dude, I donât think anyone actually believes that Anakin, a man canonically so obsessed with his wife that he murdered children over the threat of losing her, had a raging hard-on for Obi-Wan or that any of our fanfiction was actually happening and Lucas just forgot to mention it.
The beauty of fandom and fan writing is that we can explore interactions, potentials, and things we find intriguing without worrying about if those things are actually happening in the media. We can explore dynamics because they interest us, irregardless of if they are textually supported, let alone canon.
I enjoy ObiKin not because I think Lucas neglected to mention that they were secretly boning. I donât even enjoy ObiKin because I think they should have been together over Anidala. I enjoy ObiKin because I enjoy reading how writers explore their dynamic of master & padawan, of former slave & the human embodiment of his new life, of grieving man & the child who kept him tethered, of someone who externalizes their emotions & someone who internalizes theirs, etc.
Tl;dr: You donât have to think something is canon, or even think something should be canon in order to ship it. You donât even have to think the ship is healthy to ship it. You just have to think itâs an interesting sandbox to play in. And enjoying said ship has absolutely zero correlation to the kind of relationships you have or want to have in your real life.
you said this so well!!! it really is a bit disrespectful to fans to assume that we cannot hold a distinction in our mind between what we know the official canon to be, and what we make of the canon for ourselves (just like we can't hold a distinction between a compelling story and the kind of reality we want for ourselves). i'm fully able to appreciate the platonic bond intended on screen at the same time that i'm able to see a billion ways for homoeroticism to enter the story. i'm able to enjoy canon padmé-obsessed anakin at the same time i'm free to imagine the story if he were bisexual. i know all that canon so well because i search out all the pockets in between the told story and occupy it for myself, changing it as i see fit. i love obikin for the nuanced layers of impossibility between them that such a rich, dense canon gives us. i like my stories to have conflict and deep intertextual setting, you know? it's wild but true. but i'm certainly not saying lucas was hiding a gay love story the whole time, because he was unequivocally not doing that lmao

Please can the male character of a fantasy show/shonen anime not end with a female character for once? Stop with the heteronormativity dear God.
Give the main male character more female friends instead of giving him female love interests. Male characters deserve to have female friends. They don't have to be always romantically involved! I'm tired of people always wanting to ship a girl and a boy without any other option. They could be just friends! (and this feels very close to me because I had a best male friend in high school and people ALWAYS saw us as lovers and it WASN'T true at all! It was so irritating I swear. "You look good together" "You are a good couple" "Are you two together?" Why can't you leave us alone??? He was just my friend). Because YES, a girl and a boy can be friends without feeling romantic love for each other.
Annabeth could have been Percy Jackson's first female friend and she could have been the first girl who cared about him, just like a "female version of Grover" and just a friend- but no, they had to end up together because God forbid a main male character not being the boyfriend of a girl (and the same happens with Hiccstrid, Jlaire and Anidala, they could also just have been friends)
Naruto and Hinata could have been besties instead of lovers but no- they had to make Hinata a girl whose life was only centered in "How do I make Naruto-kun love me?" (and the same happened to Iris West. She could have been more important to the plot and Barry's best female friend- but instead she was just his love interests and her development was null. And the same happened with Allura. At first she was a good character, but then she was only there to be Lance love interest, what he should have been overcome. And btw Allura's romantic love towards Lance felt very rushed. As well as Hinny was so bad developed in the movies and Ginny's development didn't exist).
Seriously people stop with these things. Stop reducing a female character to a love interest. Don't make the main male character end up with a female character because that "it's better for the plot" "it's better for the world" "people won't accept the male character dating another male character" "people won't accept the male character not dating anyone". Not everything has to be a straight couple. Actually, not everything has to be a couple! All relationships in the book/show/movie/anime could be platonic and it wouldn't be a big deal! (Although personally I like romance, but aroace people also exist and they deserve to be represented in media).

As someone who doesn't understand romantic attraction well, I find that I oftentimes conflate romantic and platonic relationships in media if the chemistry and just love and affection is written well. You've managed to make me ship anidala for the first time in years (basically ever since I became an adult and realised how fucked up a relationship based on deceit lies and violence would be) so I'm bit surprised that the way you write deep emotional connections like the one between obi wan or even Leia or Shea and Leia (who I personally think would make amazing fwb) makes this whole community feral
Thanks anon. Im always happy to hear Anakin and PadmĂ©âs relationship is working for people. Am I right assuming you meant âso Iâm not surprised?â
Leiaâs relationships with everyone in this story have been so much fun. The ones with baggage are so easy to tap for irony and exquisite pain. The ones without baggage are so easy to build into whatever makes a scene or arc work. Her ties to the past, present, and future tug her in every direction, and itâs a joy to experience.

Padme, humming while braiding Reader hair
Reader : You know, Padme. you'd make a wonderful mother someday.
Padme : Thankyou my dear, and I'm sure you'll make a fine Jedi Knight someday.
Reader : Speaking of which, what are your favorite flowers? I promise I'll bring you a bouquet.
Padme : Hmm... it's star of bethlehem, remind me of my home. Naboo.

Reader, placing a flower bouquet at Padme's tomb : Here you go, Padme. a bouquet of star of bethlehem, just like I promised.

Ahsoka Variety Interview Thoughts
Hello, Sabezra nation!
So, it will probably start spilling out soon but, yes, some of the cast members from Ahsoka - Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Hayden Christensen and some guy named Dave Filoni - did an interview with Variety recently to talk about the show.
Now, I know what you're thinking: was there anything regarding Sabine and Ezra's relationship?
And the answer is a resounding NOPE.
But, it's still a very interesting article and there were a few tidbits that stood out to me that I feel is Sabezra related. So, I'll talk about that here.
First up: an interesting quote from Sabine Wren herself, Natasha.
I've written about this before in a previous post but it's very nice to have it be validated here by Natasha: that Sabine is, indeed, meant to come off as Anakin-coded in this first season of Ahsoka.
Others in this fandom have also noted this and this certainly lends credence to Sabine's feelings for Ezra being more than platonic. Sabine's decision to doom their galaxy in exchange for her friend's safety has enormous ramifications for the Star Wars universe going forward - and only one other character has had such an impact on the franchise: Anakin Skywalker.
Anakin made his choice out of desperation to save his wife, Padme. Star Wars loves its mythological cycles. Lucas passed on that love to Filoni so, in theory, Sabine should be following in the foot-steps of the disaster lineage of Jedi she is now a part of.
But, as I've noted before, one of Ahsoka's themes is trying to break cycles. Baylon wants to break the cycle of endless wars, Ahsoka wants to break the cycle of darkness plaguing her Jedi lineage, and Sabine wants to break the cycle of loss that's all too prevalent in her life.
What does that mean? It means that Filoni has the opportunity to do something that Anakin couldn't with Sabine: show a proper redemptive arc. Find a way to move forward with Ezra and everyone else she betrayed. Find a way to be forgiven and properly atone for her mistakes - preferably without dying or someone else dying on her behalf.
Of course, this is just interpretation on my behalf. The skeptic in me points out that Natasha is only referring to Sabine's recklessness and inner struggles as being what Ahsoka sees as similar to her former master. There's no mention of Ezra.
But we know that one of Anakin's "inner struggles" was his increasing attachment and feelings for Padme. So, is a stretch to say that these inner struggles that Sabine is wrestling with include her yet undisclosed feelings for her friend Ezra? No, not really.
With what Filoni set up from this first season, it's an inevitability that - at some point - Sabine is going to be questioned about why she made that decision. I personally see it as integral to her journey as a Jedi. Which means that Sabine needs to search her feelings and come to understand them.
It's significant that Natasha points out the echoes of Anakin in Sabine's personality and actions. It says quite a lot.
And to back up the whole "reverse Anidala" theory I have, here's what Filoni says in this next quote:
So this quote is Filoni referencing Ahsoka's struggles with Anakin's legacy as Vader during Rebels and then later in Ahsoka.
"How does that affect somebody when a person that they really admire and looked up to turned out not to be the person they thought they were? Are we all just capable of a fall from grace? And what is forgiveness? What shape does that look like?"
But, keeping this in mind, you could also apply this to Sabine's situation with Ezra, along with everyone else she cares about that was put directly in harm's way with her decision (Hera, Jacen, Zeb, Chopper).
Ahsoka, having come to terms with her own long struggle of forgiving and accepting Anakin for who he was, now has something else to offer Sabine other than showing her how to fight: how to forgive.
Sabine is, presumably (hopefully if Filoni isn't just going to sweep her actions under the rug), going to be struggling with the ramifications of her betrayal at some point in the future. And, not to mention, everyone else also finding out and will most likely be upset, to say the least.
Ahsoka, armed with her own knowledge of how to navigate that thorny path, can be a mediator in that regard. She'll stand with Sabine, as she promised - not condoning her actions, but providing understanding and her own special viewpoint on how to forgive and move on from such an incredibly selfish and destructive action (thanks to Anakin) - and help everyone else find a way to do so, as well.
I figure Ezra and Hera will probably be the focal point of conflict for Sabine. Hera, for obvious reasons, will be upset since Sabine helped kick-start another potential war with the Empire - something she does not want her child to experience growing up in like she and countless others did.
And there's also the matter of how it directly undermines what Kanan and Ezra sacrificed so much for.
As for Ezra . . . I don't know. It's complicated. No idea how Filoni is planning to tackle that. But it's going to hurt him.
It's going to hurt him so much.
But with Ahsoka's presence, it stands to reason that Sabine and Ezra can find a way to reconcile and build something new and stronger from the ruins of their prior relationship.
Other interesting items/observations from the interview:
Filoni already has an outline for Ahsoka season 2. (Nothing confirmed about a renewal, but he's got one ready.)
Hayden Christensen makes an interesting observation about Anakin's return being that he now has the power to wield both the Light Side and Dark Side of the Force, which also gives him the power to save Ahsoka . . . the same power he was trying to obtain when he pledged himself to the Dark Side during Revenge of the Sith.
There are no current plans on Baylon's recasting as of yet. Filoni is still figuring that out. (RIP, Ray Stevenson).
Natasha sees Ahsoka season 1 as setting up "enduring drama" between Ahsoka and Sabine. They still obviously have a lot to work out to mend their relationship - like what happened to Sabine's family and how that was somehow Ahsoka's fault, also Ahsoka stopping her training shortly afterwards.
There is only one direct mention of Thrawn and Ezra: Filoni's decision to send them to another galaxy was because keeping them in the home one was too easy ("too many people travelling, flying around; you can send a signal and get found"). He knew about other galaxies from a scene in Attack of the Clones.
A word of caution: we'll probably be getting more interviews like this within the coming weeks so there will be, presumably, lots of new info coming in.
Hopefully we'll be getting interviews from Eman and Ivanna, as well, since I'm interested to hear more about their characters (Ezra, for obvious reasons, but Shin we definitely need to know more about) and what they might be up to in a future season.
But . . . some of these interviews might contain, shall we say, indications of where certain relationships might go or where whomever is being interviewed think they might go.
So saying this now: unless it comes from the hat man himself, don't get too caught up in whatever is said. It's all fun and speculation.
Sorry for the long ramble. Hope this all makes sense.
See you all down the road.

the padme thing...100% agree. I remember watching the prequels and people praising her online as this badass female character and I ?? thought i missed something ?? that was a "for your rights" politician going "it's ok" to killing a whole ass village because that was her boy/man... wut . Even her relationship with anakin .... it always felt like white rice maybe with a pinch of salt compared to whatever the tf was going on in that jedi temple. that was more compelling to watch.
there's like a collective annoying attitude about her because people want to put her on a #girlboss pedestal to have a triptych of Fanon Interpretation of Platonic Ideal Corporate Feminist Badass Female Characters with Leia and Rey or whatever
and like the thing is that i wouldn't find Padme/Anidala fun if she wasn't the exactly way she was written. i literally wouldn't gaf about her at all. because she sucks. she sucks so deeply and is so annoying. like what's fun is she is technically capable of many things but does not do them because she is pussywhipped for a space monk and doesn't actually like doing them. she is given the objectively most intersting backstory you can have (secret princess, politician, etc.) but is committed to not wanting that at all. and like you're so right! she is a politician who is willing to get past the stuff jakey does on multiple occasions because her love for him comes first. and her biggest goal was to have babies in her early twenties. and in the legends books scenes in her perspective is almost ALWAYS basically just "I loooooove my husband who i barely know i want him to impregnante me and take me on a date NOW" and like people don't like that so try to give her more dimensions in other media and make her more critical and discerning about the stuff he does like NO! don't do that to her. She doesn't think that critically about her man.

controversial star wars opinion - I think anisoka gets too much of a bad rap. like honestly im surprised at how disliked (or outright despised) the ship is in the fandom. like yes I do see how there's a notable power imbalance since they are teacher/student, but I don't get the whole "age difference" point because they have basically the same age difference as padme and anakin. also, its not like anyone can't explore the idea of a romantic relationship between them when they're older. ahsoka didn't stop aging at 17. sorry that this is long, I just see a lot of untapped potential in their dynamic and im salty that theres such a stigma surrounding a fairly tame ship
Oh Anon, it's like you read my mind.
I'm extra salty that Anisoka has such a stigma attached to it, to the point where the it's practically radioactive when compared to ships like Obikin or even Anidala.
If we're going to start treating ships as radioactive because they have an unhealthy power imbalance, the SW fandom better invest in some heavy-duty hazmat suits.
Padme and Anakin have the same age gap, and Padme met Anakin when he was nine. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan raised Anakin from that same age, meeting him for the first time when he was in his twenties.
(I'm very aware that there are Obikin antis, but Anisoka seems to be treated as even more toxic)
I'm not saying that Obikin and Anidala deserve hate, they don't, I'm just saying it's strange that Anisoka is so disproportionately targeted.
Also, as you said, Ahsoka didn't stop aging at seventeen. In Ahsoka (the series) she's in her forties.
But, I'll be fair and briefly try to see it from the other side's point of view.
Unlike Anidala and Obikin, most of Anakin and Ahsoka's canon interactions happen when he's a grown man and she's an underage girl, and yes, the teacher/student aspect is understandably squicky to a lot of people.
Also, unfortunately, there is a lot of utterly revolting stuff out there depicting Anakin and Ahsoka that's set during The Clone Wars. I don't consider this garbage to be fan art, or representative of Anisoka fans. It's genuinely horrific and vile, and I think it really poisoned the well as far as perception of Anisoka goes.
(...and trust me, when I say something is horrific, I'm not exaggerating)
Anyway, time to ramble about my own Anisoka feelings!
I loved seeing Anakin growing fonder and fonder of Ahsoka in a completely platonic way over the course of The Clone Wars. It was a highlight of the series for me.
...but, my first introduction to Ahsoka Tano was through Rosario Dawson playing her in live-action, starting with The Mandalorian.
Part of me will always see Ahsoka Tano as a grown woman, played by an actress who has incredible chemistry with Hayden Christensen.
So can you blame me for shipping them?!
That's not even going into all the potential of their relationship.
I've got four Anisoka WIPs in my drafts right now, and they all approach the relationship from different angles. I found crafting each dynamic completely fascinating.
But I also find their platonic dynamic fascinating too. Across the Stars uses Anakin and Ahsoka's relationship to trigger a turning point in the plot, and another WIP of mine is a cute and platonic Clone Wars-era prompt that I'm loving as much as the Anisoka WIPs.
Now I need to apologize for rambling on too long!
...anyway, everyone please read my fics ;)
-Jesse xx
