#plastic allergy

Ok, Tumblr hive mind: We took in this stray cat a while back, and long story short, she has a plastic allergy. So... what are your go-to cat products that don't have plastic in them? I never realized just how many pet products have plastic before now.

What I'm looking for in particular:

*Gravity food and water bowls (thinking glass and stainless steel, but it seems like all the ones I find are all plastic, glass and plastic, or plastic and stainless steel, and they don't even mention it in the description...)

*Covered litter box (I know they make stainless steel ones, but does anyone know a good brand and what do you like about it?)

*Cat treats that aren't packaged in plastic (poor baby loves her treats, but most come in plastic packaging, and some that look like they aren't, actually have plastic inside, looking at you Fancy Feast😒). Honestly, this is the biggest one right now.

*Any other good products you'd like to recommend.

Most people will tell you that giving your pets any kind of medication in pill form is an absolute nightmare, meanwhile I have the exact opposite problem.

A friend of mine was watching my cat Mim while I was travelling this weekend and when he went to split her weekly allergy pill (made to split into 4 small pills when you press down on it with a finger) to give her the usual 1/4, he fumbled it and sent it skittering across the floor where my ridiculous pill-loving menace of cat immediately gobbled down the whole thing, leading to me receiving a panicked phone call at 11 pm from said friend who was understandably freaking out (everyone’s fine, a single high dose won’t cause any problems as long as it’s just this once).

Behold: the villain herself, basking in the success of her crime (she’d be planning her next pill-related heist but, as you can see if you look closely, there’s there’s nothing but elevator music behind those eyes)

I am preparing an activity for today related to textile history and I wanted to check the good things cotton has as opposed to other fabrics like linen, hemp or wool in case someone asks. And while even wikipedia articles will list all the wonders of these three fabrics, I struggle to find the advantages of cotton.

It's not that cotton is not a good material, but from this research, what cotton has that others don't is good marketing (and well, 19th century slavery as a great support to make all the other textile industries go down).

They rarely list its flexibility, which would be the main difference with linen, for instance, and many of the good things cotton has, linen and hemp also have (but often better). And cotton is not easier to grow, it's quite delicate, only grows in certain weather and requires quite a lot of pesticides (which hemp, for instance, does not, given that it's basically marihuana).

Generally, my conclusion is that these 4 materials are very similar in a lot of ways, with wool being the most distinct of them all (but then, it comes from an animal and not a plant). It's likely there are a lot of interests into maintaining cotton as the main one for some reason that is not "it's hypoalergenic" (so is wool, who knew).

My newest pet peeve is going into a store and see affordable Cashmere shawls or beanies.

Then you look at the declaration and see it's 95% Plastic and 5% Cashmere 😭

Why didn't they use mostly Merino and a bit of Cashmere?

It's hard to address sometimes - like, I definitely have friends who will say the "I need to lose weight because it's fine for other people to be fat but that's just not the look I want for me" and how do I say that mindset is literally half the problem? Or at least a result of the problem anyway

this post reminded me of this ~scenario~ that happens to me and other fat folks quite often! thin folks that are our friends, support fat folks, but haven’t quite had the time or chance or willingness to unlearn fatphobic ideas in relation to themselves. we know you still think of fatness as inherently unhealthy and unattractive, work on it ♥

The FDA has been busy this month. Last week they advised on The Dangers of Skin Peels Without Professional Supervision. This week, the Food and Drug Administration has approved ARS Pharmaceuticals’ Neffy epinephrine nasal spray.

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening, severe allergic reaction that in severe cases causes swelling of the airway and suffocation. This can be caused by bee stings, latex as well as food and drug allergies. Neffy is the first epinephrine product for the treatment of anaphylaxis that is not administered by injection.

No needles is big news and ideal when treatment would otherwise be delayed by Trypanophobia — an intense fear of needles. The FDA approved the Neffy epinephrine spray for adults and children over 66 pounds. It is administered as one 2-milligram spray into a nostril. Each Neffy package has two epinephrine nasal sprayers. If a reaction does not resolve quickly, the second spray is administered into the same nostril. The amazing part is levels of epinephrine in the body after nasal administration match the levels seen with injection.

Visited the allergist today because one of my new doctors didn't believe that my dairy allergy was professionally diagnosed. She thought that I was just lactose intolerant and self diagnosed an allergy.... tried to give me a lactose hydrogen test even.

So yeah. Had to go back to the allergist and get more testing done and THEN somewhere else for more blood tests.

I am allergic to dairy. And apparently it's much worse than previously thought! I was told to start carrying an epi pen... which I am probably not going to do.... can't wait to go back to my new doctor like hey :) guess what :))))) you tried to give me a test that could've sent me into anaphylaxis because ego or something.

Gonna go to my follow up to be a total bitch and then request a new gastro actually. No way I'm trusting her after that.
