The collector's edition for Eastward came with a fun little cd soundtrack and there's like three bonus tracks included. These bonus tracks are absolutely no where online except in-game and in this collector's cd and like, for two of them its not a huge issue for me...

But like this one track is missing and its literally my favorite track in the whole fucking game.

It's just an alternate version of "Strange Quest" that plays during gameplay but it deviates from the main track in such a blissfully emotional way that it just makes me so goddamn happy I can't explain it. The fact it's not online and no one can look it up made me sad and now I have to fix that :'D For reference I'll put the main track below that's in the official digital release, cause it's still really fantastic y'all like this soundtrack is just full of fucking bangers mate aaaaaaaaaaaaa

Fanart from Eastward, a game I enjoyed quite a bit last year. I’m a big mother fan and I love playing games were you can notice the inspiration while doing their own thing. The story was interesting with lots of emotional moments, also the pixel art was incredible.

Eastward DLC ‘Octopia’ launches January 31, 2024 for Switch, PC

Eastward downloadable expansion “Octopia” will launch for Switch and PC via Steam on January 31, 2024, publisher Chucklefish and developer Pixpil announced. Chucklefish told Gematsu it did not have any news to share regarding the downloadable content’s availability for the Xbox One version of Eastward.

Set in a parallel world to Eastward without the dangers of miasma, Eastward: Octopia will see players joining the good life alongside Sam and John, repairing and revitalizing an old neglected farmland in this expansive farm-sim downloadable content. Players will grow crops, tend to livestock, and unleash their culinary creativity using freshly farmed produce to whip up scrumptious new meals, which are then stored in John’s Big Cookbook. There are fishing holes to visit, ghosts to chat to, and a colorful cast of Eastward characters to impress with John’s new recipes. So 2022 has been awesome for the indie games scene and Eastward by Pixpil and published by Chucklefish is most definitely not a break from form! I was exposed to Eastward pretty early on after its announcement and I knew I would have to check it out because the vibe is just so for me. As per my usual, I didn't look up release dates or anything so I promptly forgot about the game and was only reminded about it right before it came out day-in-date on Game Pass. But I am really glad I ended up checking it out anyway!

First impressions:

The things that really drew me in for this game is the art style (I love a good pixel art aesthetic), and the music. When I finally was able to install the game, the intro cinematic blew me away! The awesome character designs come to life through the animation, and the action and story elements are displayed beautifully. The biggest part that sold me here is the music. The opening track by composer Joel Corelitz, called "Eastward," is going to be in nearly every playlist of mine forever. And if the art and music weren't enough, the beginning of the game really takes off in a very appealing and eventually quite gripping way.

Why you might want to check it out:

I would recommend this game to almost anybody. The main appeal is its simplicity. It’s not trying to do a million things and I think that is really working for it. Since Pixpil spent their time focused on story and art rather than adding extraneous mechanics and side quests, Eastward becomes an exciting and cinematic experience. Another awesome selling point for it is some surprisingly good boss fights! I usually find boss fights in this presentation to be passable to bad, but Pixpil has really innovated and created some new experiences that really shows off what is possible in a top-down, 2D, pixel art style. Finally, the best reason to check it out is that it is included in Gamepass which means a that it’s basically free.

So please do yourself a favor and at least play the opening hours of Eastward. If you do, let me know because I haven’t seen much talk about this and it is disappointing!

I’ve just learned that Pixpil also has a studio on Tokyo, and they’re making a new game announced today! “Heart Echoes”, I’m very excited for anything this studio puts out!

Publisher Chucklefish and developer Pixpil have announced Eastward: Octopia, a downloadable expansion for Eastward that follows protagonists Sam and John as they start a peaceful new life as farmers in a remote mountainside village. It will launch this holiday for Switch and PC. The Xbox One version of Eastward was not mentioned in the announcement, but Gematsu has followed up for comment.
